DAY 5871
Jalsa, Mumbai Mar 15/16, 2024 FRi/Sat 2:19 AM
🪔 ,
March 16 .. birthday greetings to Ef Kalpana Kakade from Bengaluru .. and Ef Bharat Gupta from Kutch - Gujarat .. 🙏🏻🚩❤️
..
Birthday EF - Kalpana Kakade Saturday, 16 March .. all good wishes for this day and the love of the Ef ..🌹
A loss in the FINALS .. at the ISPL .. sad but on the day the other team played a better game .. so we resolve that the next season of the game we shall endeavour with greater effort and WIN ..
The FIGHT is more valuable when defeat has been initiated , for when there is no defeat .. victory shall never be highlighted .. you have to win against an opposition , else how does one register a win ..
So we give the credit to the opposition .. it is their due .. resolve our spirits and prepare for the next fight ..
Got stuck at the entrance gate for over an hour .. just immobile .. crowds in their enthusiasm and mobbing did not give us even an inch to move .. and by the time compromised security could get us through our batting innings was over .. and we knew the score was dismal ..
Maybe the presence and the encouragement , like the game before could have enthused them .. but just not our day .. we take it on the chin and get ready to punch back soon ..
However .. the spirit of sportsmanship should never be overshadowed by defeat .. and the grace shown by Abhishek in meeting all the players soon after the game was over , was hugely appreciated .. not just our team but congratulated the Kolkata team as well ..
BUT .. what a joy and an experience to have spent some precious time with the GREAT SACHIN ..
It is impossible to express what a huge amount of knowledge he has over the game .. his predictions on what the bat should do next , the field placement , the bowling and the anticipation of what shall happen next is just INCREDIBLE .. it is not incredible it is magical ..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Effort should never wane .. one day it shall open the doors to what is sought ..
"Victory and defeat stand as polarities in the tapestry of human experience, defining the essence of life's struggles. Victory, the pinnacle of achievement, embodies triumph, perseverance, and accomplishment. It celebrates perseverance, resilience, and unwavering determination. In its glow, we find validation, pride, and the sweet taste of success. Conversely, defeat casts a shadow, teaching invaluable lessons in humility, resilience, and growth. It tempers egos, fostering introspection, and igniting the flame of renewal. Yet within defeat lies the seed of future victory, for it is through setbacks that we unearth the strength to rise, resilient and renewed, toward greater triumphs."

Sleeping Beauty Spring: "Let's Pretend: Sleeping Beauty" (late 1940s record album)
Tumblr media
For children of the Great Depression and World War II era, a weekly source of fairy tales was the acclaimed radio show Let's Pretend, which aired on CBS from 1934 to 1954. Created, directed, and written by a woman named Nila Mack, and with a cast of "juvenile performers" mostly in their teens and early 20s, the show offered half-hour adaptations of fairy tales, myths, and other fantasy stories. Several record albums of stories were released as well, with the same cast, scripts, and music heard on the radio.
While no Sleeping Beauty episode of the original radio series has survived, the Sleeping Beauty record album does. The cast includes Marilyn Erskine as Princess Beautiful (yes, that's really her name in this version), Albert Aley as Prince Charming, Miriam Wolfe as the Witch, Arthur Anderson (a.k.a. the original voice of Lucky the Lucky Charms Leprechaun) as the King, Sybil Trent as the Queen, Gwen Davies as the Fairy Queen, and the show's host, "Uncle" Bill Adams, as the narrator. The script is by Nila Mack and the musical score is by the series' regular composer/conductor Maurice Brown.
The story is told in a concise, straightforward way, but with a surprising number of creative choices. The opening scene places far more emphasis than usual on the religious nature of the baby princess's christening, as it takes place in a cathedral instead of at the castle. The villainess who curses the baby isn't a fairy whom the King and Queen neglected to invite, but (as the cast list above indicates) a witch. Her anger at being snubbed seems less valid and more insane than the traditional fairy's, and her curse is especially sadistic too, as she declares that when Beautiful pierces her hand with a spindle, "blood will flow, her hand turn green" and "pain will twist her body crooked" before she dies. The traditional "last good fairy who hasn't yet given her gift" is also omitted. Here, the only significant good fairy is the Fairy Queen, and despite having already given the baby the gift of beauty, it's she who softens the Witch's curse from death to a hundred year sleep.
On Princess Beautiful's sixteenth birthday, her parents make the mistake of leaving her alone in the garden to pick roses. Then along comes the Witch, disguised as an old peddler woman with a spinning wheel for sale. In keeping with her sadistic words, after Beautiful pricks her hand, the curse takes effect so slowly that Beautiful runs away, bleeding and in pain, finds her parents, and tells them all that happened before collapsing. The King and Queen summon the Fairy Queen, but all she can do is instruct them to make their sleeping daughter look lovely on her couch (dressed in pink velvet robes, with a crown studded with diamond stars on her head), and then put the whole castle to sleep as well.
A hundred years later, Prince Charming and his squire Alan find the castle surrounded by dense trees, but when they approach, the trees part to form a pathway to the castle gates. The two explore the sleeping castle, and eventually, the prince finds Princess Beautiful's chamber, is smitten by her beauty, and kisses her. Upon waking, Beautiful instantly knows Prince Charming by name, explaining that the Fairy Queen told her in her sleep that he would come. The King and Queen wake and reunite with their daughter, the rest of the castle follows, and the wedding is joyfully announced.
Like most Let's Pretend installments, this Sleeping Beauty is full of simple charm. The young cast acts their roles well, the writing is poetic, and Maurice Brown's music provides the perfect compliment. One oddity, though, is that the actors always say "an hundred years" instead of "a hundred years. Did it used to be considered "proper grammar" for "H" to always be preceded with "an"?
I wholeheartedly recommend this album to old-time radio fans and fairy tale lovers alike.

percival, third son of house damberth; magistrate TAV & COMPANION
alignment: lawful good to lawful neutral pipeline path: good run ; happy endings
major spoilers for baldur's gate 3.
name: percival ivar damberth race: noble high elf age: 230ish, looks mid-late 20s hair: bright red with some lighter ginger streaks eyes: purple ( and he wears glasses ) class: wizard occupation: magistrate, advisor preferred weapon: greatstaff
YOU -- YOU HAD ME TAKEN, LORD GORTASH. MOTHER? FATHER? COULD YOU REALLY SIDE WITH THIS MAN? HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME? I AM YOUR SON, YOUR FLESH AND BLOOD! ... ah. i see. the heir and the spare. i am unnecessary. perhaps, but i will be on the right side of history.
lord percival "percy" damberth is a magistrate in baldur's gate.
percy was born as ion ( dewdrop ) damberth, the third son of the ancient damberth house. it had been said that the damberth family has existed on these lands long before baldur's gate existed. as the third brother of such a noble house, percy always had incredibly high expectations put upon him. he was always compared to his older brothers wyllas and cirion, which drove a wedge among them. percy became incredibly jealous, desperate for the admiration and validation his parents gave his kin.
he was a prodigy in magic, taking well to his lessons at an early age. little ion also focused on academic texts, taking on subjects baldurian law and history. he also studied in wizard school, scoring well above his peers. ultimately, ion decided he wanted a career in law, and at the young age of 20, he became an assistant for the magistrate's office.
THE FOLLOWING IS PART OF PERCY'S ORIGINAL CANON. ALL ASPECTS OF THIS CAN BE REWRITTEN TO FIT THREADS AND HC OF OTHER WRITERS.
after being deemed too inquisitive and frankly too anal, ion eventually was paired with lord astarion ancunin. immediately he looked up to the older elf, who was suave and charming, who had a knowledge of the law that ion longed to have. ion was a great assistant to him, punctual, precise, and pragmatic. he made lord ancunin's life easier, partly because it was his job and partly because he enjoyed the praise he received by him. whilst others discounted percy for his rank among his family or his overeagerness, lord ancunin saw his value.
ion always appreciated that, even if it was just a professional relationship. he would be lying if he said he didn't have a crush on his boss.
after five years of working as his assistant, lord ancunin mysteriously disappeared. his body was found, and ion was devastated -- he should have known the gur would corner him. he should have been there. a heartbroken percy attended his funeral. . . and that, he believed, was that.
imagine his surprise when he saw a familiar face staring back at him two hundred years later holding a knife to his neck.
END OF OPTIONAL SECTION.
over the years, ion became a magistrate in his own right and split his time between hearing cases and teaching at the wizard college. on his 100th birthday, he chose percival as his coming of age name -- taking on a similar naming convention of his father erenval.
while he is nowhere as popular or well-known as his brothers who are pinnacles of high society. still, percy was known as a fair magistrate... perhaps sometimes too hard on his cases. he followed the law closely, believing that rules should not be broken.
a study in. . . maybe some rules need to be broken.
enver gortash saw percy as a threat to his ascension to archduke, so he decided to get rid of him. that was how percy woke up on the nautiloid and found his way into a grand adventure.
percy also works as a companion to another tav.

what's your favourite scene from any/all of finchers movies and why? :]]
AHHH THATS SO HARD!!! honestly i couldn’t pick just one if it would save my life so im going to pick a few:
-i love the car scene in ‘se7en’ when they are driving to the desert with John Doe, i just ADORE the dialogue here it’s so fucking cool and interesting and displays kind of what the three characters personallys are like. i also love the calm before the storm vibe of the scene!!
- the same thing with the club scene in ‘the social network’, i just love hearing Sorkins dialogue and the golden gate bridge mini monologue that Parker gives in this scene is very cool!! also pretty lights and silly music :))
- i LOVEEEE the scene where Lou beats the shit out of Tyler in ‘fight club’. i love Lou’s accent, i love how crazy Tyler is, i love the dust brothers score, i love the little detail in the back of ed norton curling over when Tyler gets hit in the chest AHHH. can you tell i love this movie?
- i don’t know if it counts as one scene? but i love when benjamin is in Russia and is having the affair with Elizabeth. the pure LOVE and care that they have for each other is so pure and just infectious, even though it’s just for a short time. the fact that these characters can have a meaningful love story and relationship in movie that is ultimately a love story about Benjamin and daisy is so cool to me. Benjamin and Daisy arnt always together in the movie, yet the other relationships they have with other people, are no less valid. (yeah i could rant about this one for a while, there is a video essay by ‘Eyebrow Cinema’ on youtube called ‘The curious case of Forrest and Benjamin’ that is really cool and explains why this scene is so great)
- the slow mo scene in ‘panic room’ when Meg is trying to get her cell phone from the bedroom. IT HAS MY HEART IN MY THROAT EVERY TIME. the SOUND design (especially when the lamp falls) is soooo cool!!

Chapter 16 - Football team
word count: 1.4k words
~third person POV~
On Wednesday afternoon, Minho was in the locker room changing into his uniform. He had an important task to accomplish today as the captain of the football team, which was selecting new members who would join this year to train with them, so that they can hopefully become part of the team.
The coach already went through a selection process of choosing potential talent, so now, it was the team's duty to accept or reject the applicants, depending on who would be the best fit for them.
Minho browsed through everyone's files carefully, and eventually, after a few very promising applicants, someone piqued his interest.
Choi Jun, second year.
This might be the guy. Minho thought, and he couldn't stop thinking about what a disgrace it is to share his last name with this piece of crap.
Of course, his last name was fairly usual, but what were the chances?
Anyways, he didn't want to make any mistakes, so he confirmed with Taemin that this Jun and the Jun who hurt Crystal was the same person, and once Taemin assured him it was, Minho started to think of a plan.
He had a personal vendetta against this guy he's never even met, but unfortunately he would have to meet him today.
Unfortunately for the guy, of course.
He couldn't attack him outright, even though he wanted nothing more than to punch him and beat him to a pulp. He had to think of something else.
After getting changed, his other teammates and he made their way to the football field, where all the aspiring players stood straight in a line. The whole team positioned itself in front of the applicants, with Minho in the middle. As the captain of the team, he was the one to talk and ask them all to introduce themselves.
He spotted Jun quickly, who seemed excited that the captain noticed him. He was however not aware that he's been spotted for all the wrong reasons.
He was tall and well-built, Minho noticed, and he looked strong. He had a red scar on top of his left eyebrow, where Crystal hit him. Imagining him trying to force himself on her made Minho sick.
"Hello, and welcome to the field. My name is Choi Minho, and I am the captain of our team. Together with my colleagues, we will be judging your abilities and see if you'd be a great fit. We are looking forward to seeing what you're made of. Best of luck to you all!" He smiled, then turned around and walked with a few of his members towards the benches.
The first few applicants were going to train with some of the members, all the while Minho and the others would observe. Minho, however, decided to be the one who took care of the goalkeepers today, specifically because Jun wanted to join the team as a goalkeeper, and Minho was the best striker his team has ever seen, so the odds were in Minho's favour.
His team's opinion was as valid as his, so, even if he hated Choi Jun with all his being, he had to have a valid reason to reject him, in case his team somehow liked him. He has the chance to personally make sure that guy won't be able to catch the ball even once.
When Jun took his position in front of the gate, Minho stood up and placed the ball on the ground.
"Give me the best you've got!" Jun said proudly with a smirk, and Minho almost chuckled.
"You sure about that, man?" He replied in a threatening tone, which Jun didn't catch. He was just thrilled that the captain shared his name, and looked at him, and was the one who would personally strike the ball to score against him.
"100%, Captain!" Jun got into position.
"You know what?" Minho stood straight. "I will hit the ball 5 times. If you are able to catch at least 2 of them, you're part of the team."
"Really?!" Jun exclaimed. "I'll do it!"
Minho smirked. This Jun dude had no idea who he was up against, and it showed.
Minho hit the ball the first time sloppily, letting Jun catch it while thoroughly examining his technique.
"Only one more and you're in the team." He smiled brightly, making Jun excited.
The cheeky bastard really thinks he caught that himself. Minho chuckled, and the next time he hit, Jun didn't ever register the ball flying next to his head.
And then he did again.
And again.
And again.
And Jun wasn't able to catch even one ball.
"Sorry man, best luck next year." Minho shrugged and turned around to leave. Of course, with Jun being a second year already, the chances of him getting accepted in the 3rd year were slim to none.
"Wait!" Jun ran after him. "Why did you do that?"
"Do what?" Minho turned to face him as well. They were about the same height.
"You let me catch the first one intentionally."
"No reason." Minho shrugged and smiled in a fake manner.
"You wanted to humiliate me." He said, and Minho let out a low chuckle.
"What is it, does it hurt your ego when people stronger than you pin you down?" He started. "When you aren't able to fight them off unless they let you go?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Where did you get that pretty scar on your forehead, hm?"
Jun instinctively raised his hand and touched the scar, and then his face contorted with anger.
"What, did that bitch tell you anything?! She lied." He said.
"She didn't have to. Plenty of people saw you. You're such a pathetic excuse of a man, I'd be ashamed if I were you." Minho chuckled. "We don't need scum like you in the team, but you know what, Jun? I did it all fair and square. I gave you a chance either way, and you blew it. You wanted to become captain?" He chuckled again. "You can't even join the team, dude. Now get the fuck off my field."
"Who do you think you are to talk to me like that, huh?! Do you think you're some important man just because you're captain?!" Jun raised his voice, his fist in the air. This made Minho cackle even more. He wanted nothing more than for Jun to strike first.
"So pathetic." Minho spat out again. "I mean, it's a pretty good feeling to be captain of our team. A feeling you'll never get to experience, though." He shrugged, and Jun couldn't contain his anger any longer, and sent his fist towards Minho's face.
He moved away quickly enough to capture his fist and send his own into Jun's abdomen, then managed to tackle him to the ground. Jun struggled under Minho and tried to hit him again, which only gave Minho another chance to punch his face with no repercussions.
After all, it was self defense if Jun tried to hit him first, right?
The members of the football team seated on the bench saw the commotion and ran towards the two men, and as soon as they reached them, they pulled Minho away from Jun.
"What's up, man?! You hurt anywhere?" One of the teammates asked Minho concerned.
"Nah, but this fucker-" he pointed to Jun "- was mad he didn't make it in the team and attacked me."
"I didn't-" Jun tried to defend himself, but was quickly cut off by the team members.
"Shut the fuck up! The audacity some people have, I swear!" The members rolled their eyes and grabbed Jun forcefully from the ground, starting to drag him out of the field, despite his vocal complaints.
He couldn't beat him up as much as he wanted to, but this sight was pretty satisfying as well, so, with a large grin on his face, Minho raised his right hand and waved to Jun.
After attacking him, Jun would never be allowed to apply to the football team again, and he'd most likely get signed up for disciplinary action, which was not a good look in this University, as it would get on your personal record and would disqualify you from any internships at companies. The University is far too prestigious to risk its reputation by suggesting a potentially violent candidate to work with one of their partners.
In order words, Jun's future was pretty much compromised, and his Diploma wouldn't help him with anything anymore.
This was a pretty gratifying thought.

Flight Hacks: How to Fly First Class on a Budget
Book cheap flight tickets and hotels- https://cheaptravelfirst.com/
Flying first class is often seen as a luxury reserved for the wealthy elite. The plush seats, gourmet meals, and attentive service seem out of reach for the average traveler. However, with a bit of savvy planning and some insider knowledge, flying first class can be more accessible than you might think. In this guide, we'll explore some flight hacks that can help you fly first class on a budget, allowing you to indulge in the high life without breaking the bank.
1. Utilize Miles and Points
One of the most effective ways to fly first class without paying a premium price is by using airline miles and credit card points. Many airlines offer loyalty programs that allow you to earn miles through frequent flying or by using affiliated credit cards. By accumulating enough miles, you can redeem them for first-class tickets or upgrades. Keep an eye out for special promotions or bonus offers that can help you earn miles more quickly.
2. Look for Upgrade Opportunities
Even if you don't have enough miles to book a first-class ticket outright, you may still be able to score an upgrade. Airlines often offer last-minute upgrades at a discounted rate, especially if first-class seats are still available close to the departure date. You can also inquire about upgrade options at the check-in counter or gate, as airlines sometimes offer upgrades for a fraction of the original price.
3. Book Strategically
The timing of your booking can significantly impact the price you pay for a first-class ticket. Try to book your flight during off-peak times, such as mid-week or during the shoulder season, when demand is lower. Additionally, booking well in advance or at the last minute can sometimes result in discounted first-class fares. Be flexible with your travel dates and be on the lookout for flash sales or promotions that offer discounted first-class tickets.
4. Consider Alternative Routes
Flying first class on popular routes can be expensive, but you may be able to find better deals by considering alternative routes. Look for flights with layovers or connections, as these routes may have lower first-class fares compared to direct flights. Be sure to factor in the additional travel time and inconvenience of layovers, but if the savings are substantial, it may be worth it for the chance to fly first class on a budget.
5. Monitor Fare Prices
Like any other commodity, the price of first-class airline tickets can fluctuate based on supply and demand. Use fare tracking websites or apps to monitor prices for your desired route, and be ready to pounce when fares drop. Set up price alerts to notify you when there's a significant price decrease, and be prepared to book quickly before the prices rise again.
6. Consider Premium Economy
If flying first class is still out of reach, consider booking a premium economy ticket instead. Premium economy offers many of the same perks as first class, such as extra legroom, priority boarding, and enhanced amenities, but at a fraction of the cost. While it may not be quite as luxurious as first class, premium economy can still provide a comfortable and enjoyable flying experience without breaking the bank.
7. Negotiate
Don't be afraid to negotiate with the airline or travel agent to try to secure a better deal on a first-class ticket. If you're a loyal customer or if you have a valid reason for needing an upgrade, such as a special occasion or a long journey, the airline may be willing to offer you a discounted rate. Be polite but persistent, and you may be surprised at what you can achieve.
Flying first class on a budget is not as elusive as it may seem. By leveraging miles and points, booking strategically, and keeping an eye out for deals and promotions, you can enjoy the luxury and comfort of first-class travel without breaking the bank. With a bit of planning and creativity, the high life can be within reach for even the most budget-conscious travelers.

Apocalypse Everyday/
Everyday Apocalypse
2.
Oh.  Baby.
______________________________________________________________
Dave’s position at The Beat! didn’t provide a consistent credit rate, and he never even knew how he earned the credits he did get.
It was all based on a complicated set of figures; something to do with the flicker-through rate, scroll-speed, registered-base node pings, how intoxicated his boss was, if anyone famous had their genitals publicly caught in anything, and so on and so on and on and on, and on.
When he’d first started at The Beat!, almost 30 MegaSecs ago, the whole operation was basically running on GigaSec-old databanks just re-wording old articles inbetween paid-programming.
The only thing The Beat! had that actually kept it in existence was the fact that it was too much trouble to seriously purge it from the NATNET.
This was all fine for Dave, who had sauntered into the never-ending crisis of The Beat! and distinguished himself through basic competency.
He hadn’t been qualified as a laborer, scoring perceptibly below average on the math section of his Computational Analysis and Reasoning Exam.
His grammar and linguistic sections were average though, and this at least meant he had a place in the elusive and competitive Content Creation field.
Being labored gave one instant access to the shared value of the colony; laborers were the lifeblood of the colonies- they were what allowed the colony itself to exist, they created the colony’s value.
Dave didn’t want to create value- he wanted to have value- personal value.
Ostentatious displays of intelligence would get him head-hunted into some branch of some industry, where they’d hand him enough comfort and distraction that he’d forget all about trying to be an individual.
And so Dave worked at what he was good at- which was hiding what he was good at, until he was in a position to use it to get what he wanted.
He managed to increase the popularity of The Beat by figuring out what exactly what people wanted: validation, and ‘righteous’ fury.
He’d known from the offset that whatever was in the articles themselves didn’t matter. People didn’t flicker through articles to read- or even have the articles read to them by a synthetic voice.
They skimmed headlines to make comments.
The bizarre interview he had just gotten would be perfect for spinning out headlines full of enough speculation, suspicion, and intrigue to keep The Beat’s scum-suckersand sum-null consumers busy for the next 10 GigaSecs.
Dave busied himself with planning the rest of his cycle- each step calmed him.
He walked quickly out of the eatery stall, heading for the magnet-locked gate that led to the outer circle.
Bus tracks criss-crossed the surface sector in meticulously designed routes.
The buses were for laborers only- they eased the laborer’s access to and from their homes and had stops all along the entertainment districts.
Dave, as an independent-unlabored, was able to rent a single-occupant space using some of his extra credits.
There were 120 such spaces in the liminal area between the entertainment districts for sub-sectors I and IV.
Since he was on foot, there was only a sliver of time where he could get back to his space before the laborers would start piling out for the shift turn over.
All the exits would all be blocked by buses piping in dreary-eyed Renewmen, Caliberists, Filterers, Titrationists, and all the other small cogs of the human machine that kept the surface sector working.
They’d fill up every eatery- cramming and shoving to get what was theirs- before submitting to their shifts. They’d work for 15 KiloSecs, take a 1 KiloSec break, then work for 12 KiloSecs before being released to spend the rest of their cycle as they saw fit.
The released- some of them were beginning to trickle in from the other side even now, were making hurriedly for the outgoing bus terminal.
Those laborers were flushed with effort and satisfied knowing they’d earned their slice of society.
Their Total Devices charged with fresh credits, they’d get into the bus and sit, while the complementary Simulcast screen played advertisements for how they could spend some of their credits having a bit of fun.
Fun.
Some of them found it by punching in directions to get perfectly-programed intimacy from a Live ‘n Lovely in the Pleasure Lounges.
Some of them would rush to the Light Stations or Vibe Halls to have their neurons bounced around enough to knock away their woes.
Some would even step into an exchange booth and roll their credits into tokens to play at the RNG halls.
The smartest of the labored would remain on the bus until it reached the labored-housing district, and they’d go home and store their credits- their full earnings and their extra pay.
It is imperative to not hit 0 credits.
So long as you could keep a hold of one- just one credit- you were able to move freely.
If you were labored, it was expected to go to work and demonstrate your ongoing continued worth to society as you accumulated credits.
If you were unlabored and had at least one credit, you were expected to either continue to demonstrate credit-earning social value, or fuck up and end up a scum-sucker in the cohabitation-zone.
Dave’s place in society was that of an independent-unlabored.
He earned enough credits to justify his unlabored existence.
If he were to fall under 1, he’d be a sub-prime unlabored. He’d have a 10-cycle period to earn back a credit- and if he couldn’t… he’d still be allowed to exist and everything, but… well.
There are lots of ways to exist.
Dave hurried past the Recycling district towards the gate, but had to slow down as he neared a wall of public NATNET outlets.
There was a huddle of grubby labor drop-outs slumping in heaps.
Their faces were waxy, bellies descended, skin pallid.
All of these were symptoms of a diet of just the free basic Total Nutritional Block.
Dave held himself close, eyes down, walking with the speed of purpose, past the row of eyes and clasped hands.
Dave did not pity those he would not see.
He hated them all for looking so sad, so lost and empty, and squandering every opportunity the colonies had given them.
When he was past the crowd, he finally breathed out, and his tense anxiety bloomed into quiet rage.
Squanderers. Shamble-makers. Sub-prime scum-suckers.
If an individual couldn’t temper their cravings, if they gave into the urge to spiral- to succumb to desires, then you’d end up the victim of life in a perfect world.
They had all been given a chance, they all could still work, but they were ungrateful for their existence.
When the system is designed so only the lazy, degenerate, and weak can fail, then there is no decent person left who will help you.
If it weren’t for Total Corp. and their conglomerate policy that every human life is priceless, the scum-suckers would have been driven out into the dust choking wastes to char under the red sky.
Still, whenever their addictions to sensation was–the Lite Stations, the Pleasure Lounges, the glittering tokens of the RNG halls– it outpaced their capacity to earn enough credits to justify their consumption of social goods.
So they would be pushed out.
Sub-primes were unable to travel too far from the cohabitation zones, could not go past the magnetic gates that led to the entertainment and living districts.
They’d hang around like vestigial organs until they finally gave up trying to beg around the bus terminals. Then they’d sink into the cohabitation zone and live like parasites-doing nothing but sucking down basic blocks and doing whatever it is they do in that pit.
He’d seen some of them in their later stages-  they began to droop like the air was leaking from them, their eyes becoming occluded and dull.
Every food had the same basic nutritional content since it was all produced from the same Total Nutrition Blocks.  You could survive off of just the basic blocks- but it was really meant to be manipulated in some way to be anything worth eating.
You couldn’t exactly chew the things, you had to kind of mush and grind it, and it would come off as layers of gritty paste. The paste had to be sucked and rolled in the mouth for KiloSecs at a time.
Eating them raw long enough would cause their upper palettes to gradually lose form, their teeth would wear down to nothing- if the didn’t fall out first.
It was not uncommon to see a group of the toothless things sitting on their haunches in the corner of a shanty, passing around a block of sustenance, as they all took turns wearing down the outside of the block- creating an outer paste of nutritious saliva that would be passed to the next person.
If you lived in the cohabitation zone, you were forced to rely not only on the provisions of the colony, but also the other wastes around you.
Dave couldn’t live like that.
Even when dealing with functional people he tried to limit his interactions.
Dave could see through people easily enough to get what he wanted from them, but he didn’t want to spend more time than he needed around them.
Dave’s natural cynicism about the human condition allowed him to write the perfect headlines to encourage users to spend hours on the site; lured enough to generate shock and outrage, but falling perfectly within people’s pre-existing prejudices to be instantly believable.
Once he was back in his single occupancy space, he'd be able to click his TD into the complimentary workspace, and he'd begin to work on engineering the right headlines to whip up his commenters.
The comment sections of the articles were always reliable- some people were coming to The Beat!  just to argue or vent.
As he walked, he patted his pocket where his Total Device sat re-assuredly, and felt the weight of the rectangle holding his hard work.
It squished slightly.
  Dave stopped in his tracks.
The weight in his pocket where he always put his TD, the weight he had absentmindedly assumed was his TD, it–
He pulled it out in horror–
It was the yellow brick of the eatery sandwich.

Flight Hacks: How to Fly First Class on a Budget
For more features please visit https://trailtravelz.com/
