#Gemma Linzer-Coolidge

Important Question
It's been a while since I've listened to Greater Boston, so I don't know if I'm misremembering or the wiki is out of date.
Tumblr media
Did Gemma Linzer-Coolidge ever become a police officer? Or did she do everything as the chair of the oversight committee?

here's my pitch for the Greater Boston/Transformers crossover that is super obvious and not based on me mashing two of my niche interests together. Big shoutout to @banditposting for coming up with the names for the transformers and helping me brainstorm stuff

i wonder if leon’s ever gonna tell gemma about the omnipresent demon lurking in the minds of the vast majority of the cast.
“btw there’s this guy (i like to call him  “the narrator”) who has been inside of the brains of basically everyone involved with red line ever since my death AT LEAST, and he’s been putting thoughts into their heads and influencing their decisions this whole time.
i like to call him the narrator because he tends to narrate the innermost thoughts of the “characters” (that’s you and your friends and also every single person who exists in this world btw) to this “audience.” (i do the same thing btw. i’m a narrator. i’ll tell you about the audience later.) also, he’s the ceo of the largest mega corporation in the world, and i’m pretty sure he isn’t human.”
“...huh.”

Lucy’s friends worry about her talent because they think getting close to ghosts is too dangerous, but they miss the real problem for her specifically which is that it’s too safe. She’s afraid of the people she cares about dying. Ghosts got that out of the way already. She’s worried about always being other people’s second choice. The dead don’t have other options. She’s not great at parsing emotions. Her talent gives her a psychic/empathic link with visitors. And there’s nothing wrong with any of that, but it ends up interacting badly with her insecurities because it's so tempting. Lucy demands justice for Annie Ward and freedom for the souls trapped in the bone glass, but she pushes those morals aside when given the chance to have a person all to herself who she can deny the choice to ever hurt or abandon her while claiming it's in self-defense. Bad End Lucy doesn’t get mauled by ghosts or become the next undead CEO of London. Bad End Lucy has all her friends in jars.

Quote
LEON Hundreds, if not thousands, many of whom you don’t know.  It took me a long time to process this. Again, when turning on the faucet, it’s hard to figure out how many drops of water are available if you don’t risk flooding the house. But over time I noticed that the… well… water pressure was less intense, for lack of a better metaphor. And then I started noticing specific people I used to have access to were no longer available. Yourself. Isabelle Powell. Michael. Gemma Yeah, what the fuck do you two have going on, anyway? Leon We were… we are friends. Best friends. Gemma Like… friends or quotation-mark “friends”? Leon I don’t know what “quotation-mark ‘friends’” means. Gemma Come on, man. Like Ernie and Bert. Leon We are certainly not muppets. Gemma Do you love each other? Leon Yes, of course. Gemma Okay… Leon Oh. But no, not romantically. Gemma You sure? Leon Yes. Why is that so surprising? Gemma I just… I don’t know too many men that like… have that kind of relationship. Who are friends and who love each other to this degree but are not— Leon Romantic? Gemma Yes. Leon That’s too bad. Isn’t it? Gemma Yeah. I guess it is.

in episode 36, gemma tells poletti that michael told her "all about" leon being in the crystal ball. firstly, kudos to michael for mustering up the courage to just do that at the drop of a hat, especially considering gemma's constant skepticism regarding the existance of leon's ghost that persisted up until that point. secondly, how much did he tell her, exactly? while she mentions that michael talked about "hearing voices," i assume that he didn't actually tell her everything that happened in crystal clear. taking all the stuff that happened into consideration. so, how much did he tell her?
I know this happened "off mic," but this was really just Michael recounting everything that happened to him while it was in the office. When it comes to the ball, he mostly told Gemma and everyone else to be careful of it because of how lost he felt holding it. It "took him over" to the point where Leon pushed him to put in the tubes, which is how Dipshit / Freed Friend got it. It had the same effect on Poletti, only much quicker, mostly because Michael's familiarity with Leon made his experience a little less overwhelming.
So that's it. He probably didn't get into the details. Honestly, he wouldn't think twice about whether Gemma (or anyone else) believed him or not. Michael's never been one to care about those kinds of details.

Sending some more asks (mostly I just want to say this to one of the few people who’ll get it, lol): I recently caught up with s3 of Greater Boston and when discussing what I loved about Gemma and Poletti’s relationship development, I realized, Gemma Lindzor-Coolidge and Gerald Earthman Panda Bear Extinction Event Dipshit Freed Friend Poletti aren’t exactly Lovelace and Lambert, but they’re not /not/ Lovelace and Lambert.
(Also: imagine [Lambert voice] my 17 partners in our polyamorous commune based on free love and Marxist erotica)
Oh my goodness this is not a comparison I've ever made before but you're right! Its that dynamic of subordinate who has a very strict idea of how things should be done versus their boss who has a more relaxed approach. Clashing personalities thrown together by a mysterious employer. And the development of annoyance and loathing turning to begrudging respect and care through various trials and tribulations...
Also I cackled at imagining that line in a Lambert voice! Lambert is too introverted to be in a commune, he would hate it lol

Conversation
Gemma: I wasn't that drunk last night.
Louisa: You flirted with Charlotte.
Gemma: So what? She's my wife.
Louisa: You asked her if she was single.
Louisa: And cried when she said she wasn't.

Michael agreed to help Louisa babysit Monty after everything finally calms down in their lives.
Don’t get me wrong, I love You Gotta Be Sittin’ Me!
But I love the idea of Michael and Louisa babysitting together even more

Podcast Elections: ACAB Edition
The introduction to this poll has been moved to the Voter's Guide (under the cut) due to length. Please ensure you are registered to vote in your local elections, should you be eligible.
*There is no lesser evil when the institution itself exists to exploit, oppress, and enact violence. I refuse to vote in this race, but I will vote in other races on the ballot.
Elections are coming up in the USA. I'm used to voting about twice a year, and understand how few measures and candidates are truly exciting to vote for. There's a lot of maintenance (renewing bonds and levies, voting against limitations to abortions, etc). Most candidates have significant flaws and even the ones who seem promising will probably fail to meet their campaign promises. It's boring but important. To me it seems that the dramatic races and measures are usually more threatening (so we vote against it) then promising (so we vote for it). City Council, County Chair, School Board, Water District, Library Board, and so on are all highly important, but candidates' platforms can be opaque, or there can genuinely be no good options. But if we want clean water, good education, freedom to read, an attempt at affordable housing, etc., then we need to care about these positions.
But then there's the elections that never feel good. The elections for who gets to lead the people we allow to murder with little consequence. The people in charge of institutions that I would rather be destroyed. Obviously there's the big one, but frankly due to the electoral college, the state I live in, and partisan races usually coming down to Party over Policy, voting in that election feels incredibly ineffective (but I do it anyways).
Another institution I don't like voting for is the County Sheriff, but at least my vote feels more influential here. As this is a nonpartisan position, this will be a runoff election. That means if no candidate gets greater than 50% of the vote we will hold another race between the top two candidates the following week.

New Kid blessed the Somerville Sasquatches. A rogue umpire incinerated the Sasquatches’ least idolized player, Leon Stamatis! Mallory Monomynous joined the team as a replacement.

Because I need some good, comforting podcasts to recover from the Wolf 359 finale, I started listening to Greater Boston season one again. And I got to thinking about how Charlotte might have told Gemma about the Red Line and her job... and I wrote a short fic. Ta-da!
