i know a lot of people ship Trent/Ted but consider this:

when Trent becomes somehow part of the team in season 3, he and Ted spend a lot of time together, eventually, Trent makes a move but Ted is all: "oh, wow, I'm so flattered, you're such a handsome, intelligent man and overall so lovely but I just don't swing that way." and Trent is upset until Ted says: "but let's definitely stay friends." and then they do.

like, I get that a romantic relationship would be cute but there is basically no representation for this kind of scenario. you mostly then have the other person trying to change the mind of the person who said no or the relationship drifting apart with the rejected one feeling angry about being stuck in "the friend zone" (which to be honest is more of the "leave me the fuck alone zone, I said no!")

I feel like a healthy way of dealing with this situation is almost never represented in media (at least I cannot think of an example right now) and it would be very realistic and healthy to see.

I mean, I once had a guy I met about two weeks ago confess that he was into me when I wasn't into him. and he was immediatley saying: "okay, let's be friends then!" and you know what? we still are 10 years later!

friendships are often more stable than romantic relationships. if I want to be with someone I not only find them attractive but also compatible with me. so why not have a great friendship? I wish more media reflected that sentiment. instead of being bummed out by the rejection, be happy that you have a friend, maybe for life.

I just think that this kind of healthy, realistic example would be nice to see, continuing the tradition of avoiding prolonged drama and dealing with things in a mature way.
