The mighty Buffalo Soldiers !!
Bob Marley wrote a song about them :)
Their accomplishments:
* Created an arboretum along the South Fork of the Merced River in Yosemite near today's Wawona. Widely considered the first marked nature trail and museum in a national park. (1904)
* Constructed the first usable wagon road into the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park. Some of the oldest, largest trees on the planet. (1903)
* Cut a trail up rugged Mt. Whitney; at 14,505 feet, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States. (1903)
* Served as official escort from San Francisco to Yosemite for President Theodore Roosevelt's historic visit. The 9th Cavalry had the honors, led by Captain Charles Young. (1903)

Guerrilla gardening action on unclaimed Mission parcel draws joy, anger
Neighbors have long advocated for turning the 23,522-square-foot area into a public green space.
“Their desire to use it as private parking is no more entitled than our right to make it a green space, and so in this moment where there’s a lack of clarity about who owns that land, we think it is important that we try to demonstrate a use case that has a greater benefit for the most number of neighbors,” he told Mission Local. “We’re proposing that in this time of unclarity that there be a conversation and that we invite input.”

It still baffles me, the beauty of nature.
This valley is nothing more than fields and semi natural woodland. Whilst some of the fields may have been farmed, the trees have had very little, if any, human input.
No one has been pruning them for the sake of "maintaining" them, no one has cut their top off because they are "too tall" and no one is removing deadwood because it "helps the tree".
TREES DO NOT NEED HUMANS, NATURE KNOWS WHAT IT IS DOING.
I love just standing and taking in the countryside and nature, if only we could get more of this into our built environments, then everyone, can have access to nature regardless of whether they can walk or not, whether they have transport or not, whether they feel up to leaving the house or not. Just viewing trees out of a window has been proven to significantly improve peoples mental health, sometimes, that's all we can manage, and that's OK, as long as the environment in which we live has been built with nature in mind, or, you're lucky enough to live in the countryside, but most of us aren't :(

Since it was created in 1888, the Vancouver Park Board has been a source of discussion and division.
But the decision by Mayor Ken Sim to try and eliminate it could make its final chapter its most dramatic.
"We are going to take the long overdue step that will ensure our parks and recreation facilities will serve our communities to their fullest potential," said Sim, in a press conference Wednesday morning.
After a day of leaks and speculation, he formally announced a council motion to ask the province to change the Vancouver Charter, requesting they remove the requirement for Vancouver to have an independently elected parks board.
