The Guisachan House Sunset Sampler
Elizabeth and Haydn’s wedding at Guisachan House Gardens in Kelowna was a day to remember, beginning under a canopy of ominous clouds with the threat of rain hanging in the air. Despite the dramatic start, the gardens were a breathtaking sight, adorned with blue and purple flowers that lined the pathways, decorated the ceremony arch, and were even intricately placed on the multi-tiered wedding cake.

SCOTLAND - Hundreds of golden retrievers gathered in Scotland Thursday to mark the 155th anniversary of the breed’s founding.
According to the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, which organized the celebration, the event was held at the Guisachan Estate of Lord Tweedmouth in the Highlands – where the dog breed was first bred.
Footage, captured by Darren Stocker, shows hundreds of dogs and their owners congregating in a grassy area on the estate as people take photographs.
Owners from across the United Kingdom, continental Europe, North America, Australia and Japan have been meeting at the ruins of Guisachan House, according to the BBC. The event was expected to be one of the world's largest gatherings of the breed in one place.
Tumblr media
Carol Henry, secretary of the club, told the news outlet that the aim of the gathering was to keep alive knowledge of the breed.
"We want to hold on to the confidence, the biddability, the companionship and loyalty – all the things the golden retriever was built on," Henry shared.

The Kelowna Wedding at Guisachan House
Yesterday’s wedding took place at the gorgeous Guisachan House in Kelowna. One of my favourite place to photograph. It’s in close proximity to all the best spots – the Kelowna Lavendar Farm, and many small parks and large fields. One of the best places in Kelowna, at any time of day.
We start out with, of course, the detail shots. The ring box was an elegant old piece.
Over at the groom’s house, everyone was ready fairly quickly. Off to the Guisachan House to visit the bride!
Inside, our bride was starting with the dress. Her mother helped her do up the buttons.
Outside, I’ve never seen the bridal arch decorated like that. They wove in little flowers anywhere they could.
    Our groom was stoic.
The ceremony in the gardens was beautiful. Hymns were sung and bible verses were read.
And then, it was over! The sun hung high in the sky, and you couldn’t see smoke anywhere.
First, of course, family photos. Then, photos with the bridal party. The well manicured lawns provided just the loveliest backdrop for the group photos.
Unfortunately, this is where our adventure ends, for now. Keep in mind, this isn’t all the photos. This is a sampler, about 20 of the photos taken yesterday.  There’s a full album coming out in about 3 weeks, though.
If you personally know the bride and groom, feel free to contact me by clicking here. Let me know who you are, along with the bride and groom’s name, and I’ll make sure you get a link to the finished album!
If you’d like to keep a picture, even on mobile, just click it and it will open in a separate window. You can save it from there.
If you know someone who’d like to see this sneak peek, feel free to click one of the share buttons on the top or  bottom of this entry, to share and tag them! Although I try to get the word out, a lot of family members and amazing bridesmaids and groomsmen don’t know about these samplers!
Thank you for reading this far. I put a lot of time and work into these sneak peeks so it’s great that you’ve taken the time to read all this! If you’d like to stay updated, feel free to follow me on Instagram, facebook, twitter, or Tumblr for frequent updates. Talk to you all in a few days!

The Tattoo Wedding at Guisachan House
Kelowna’s Guisachan House is always one of my favourite places to photograph. Fortunately, they don’t make you try to spell it. And that’s where our wedding was today.
We start off with a ring shot in the garden of the rental BNB. Although I liked this composition, I felt it didn’t show enough relevance to the bride. In our initial meeting, she was welcoming and hospital. Hospitable enough to lie on the couch and get a tattoo ring shot, I wondered.
I liked this composition a little better. To every wedding, there’s a theme that keeps coming up. It wasn’t hard to find the theme to this wedding, it was art. It was obvious our bride recognized beauty, and was determined to spread it to anything and everything her life touched. Which explains her job, I guess.
The bridesmaids were bustling with excitement. We rushed, but I wasn’t too worried. Our day had been planned out with extreme flexibility. Even if we were an hour late, we could make up the time. In the photo above, note the catch lights. Those are those little white lights in the eyes that give it texture. The rental had incredible lighting. I hardly had to use my flash at all!
Not everyone ran around. Some preferred to sleep.
Some people may wonder why I called this the tattoo wedding. It’s one of life’s great mysteries, my friends.
Guisachan House was set up, ready for us. I was absolutely elated. Everything had been set up with such care. The also had more flowers woven into than I could count. At the end of every row was a sash. Surprising for me, this was actually a little smaller of a wedding. That being said, the smaller wedding, the more intimate they often are. Later on, this would become apparent during the speeches. But that’s a different update all together.
The ceremony went too quickly. After the handwritten and personal vows were shared, there was hardly a dry eye in the house. I grabbed my 70-200 f/2.8 zoom from my car, then returned it five minutes before the ceremony. I wouldn’t need a lens like that with only three rows.
This puppy was clearly more interested in me than the ceremony behind him. What a great model!
Before long, we had another lovely married couple on our hands. Huge shout out to our JP, Sandra Richardson. She actually changed her outfit to match the wedding colours! I’m always a fan of the vendors that go above and beyond in thoughtful ways.
The lovely part of Guisachan House is that it’s close to a lot of prime picture taking spots. There’s a few heritage villages in that part of Kelowna, making for a lovely setting.
And that it did. Fun fact – to get this effect, I shot through the bannisters on the stairs going upstairs! No photoshop here.
Needless to say, having a gorgeous looking bridal party really helped. We boarded the flattery train to flatteryville, never to come back.
To be fair, the guys looked great too. We jumped from spot to spot, getting a little goofier with every pose.
Framing is an amazing concept in photographer. Here we are, putting together something a little cheesy.
And everyone joined in on the action. If you’d like to set this photo as your lockscreen on mobile, simply click any image in this post once. That’ll open the image on its own page, and you can save, post, and set it to whatever you’d like. Please make sure you credit @drahtphotography.
That being said, we made sure we took some lovely photos too. Those are my favourite moments, when I get to be creative and try new things.
And so this is where I’ll have to leave you! Keep in mind, this is only a sampler – for the full gallery, you’ll have to wait a few weeks! Expect a highlights album in two weeks (or so). If you personally know the bride and groom, feel free to contact me here. Let me know who you are, and I’ll make sure you get a link to the finished album!
If you’d like to stay updated, feel free to follow me on Instagram, facebook, twitter, or Tumblr for frequent updates. Talk to you all in a few days!

The Guisachan House Wedding in Kelowna Sampler
There’s this beautiful little oasis tucked away in the corners of Kelowna. We call it Guisachan House. It’s a very, very old mansion, surrounded by tall trees, flowers, and arbours. There’s a lot for me to photograph there, and photograph we did – the whole day we went hard!
We start today at an Airbnb in Kelowna, with an incredible view of the city.
Over at Guisachan, flowers had arrived, and our award-winning chef had just finished the 5 tier cake!
It was a 4pm ceremony. Our groom had just arrived, and looked quite spiffy. Over in the preparation room, the amazing makeup artists were just readying the final touches.
The ceremony was completely unique. We started with hymns, then hand-written vows, and one amazing recessional! I love confetti – flower petals, bubbles, it always looks so good. At this moment, the crowd just went wild!
And now, after family photos, we had a beaming bridal party. We took some fairly goofy photos, and other photos that were a bit more formal. I like to try and get a mix of the two – not too rigid, but not too goofy.
And then, some time with just these two! We were trying to do a straight-face photo, but this fella just couldn’t stop smiling, not even for a second!
So I took out the prism, and it was time for some artsy photos!
Back at the Guisachan house, we had it packed full of family and friends.
There’s a lot more to this day – a money dance, the amazing traditional dresses, a LOT of candids, photos of kids, guests being goofy, but this album just isn’t ready quite yet.
This is just a sneak peek, a little preview of the photos the day after the wedding. A large one too – over 45 photos!
If you’d like to be notified once the album is ready, click here. It should be ready in about two weeks, and it’s a massive album!
There’s the first dance, our sneakaway, some very smokey photos, the photos in the garden, the kids running around and raiding the candy bar. It’s a whole experience!
Until then, feel free to follow me on Facebook and Instagram! Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you loved all the photos!

Heritage, history and histrionics.....
The heritage and history of our house is proving quite elusive. We've been trying to do our research for various reasons. To learn more about where we live, the people who lived here before us, how and why it was built, how it looked then compared to now etc. Talking to our lovely neighbours who are born and bred here has given us a great insight already, their stories are wonderful and I'm sure they have many more to share over time. We knew our little conservation village of Tomich was built by the local estate owner, Lord Tweedmouth, supposedly for his retired estate workers who had previously lived not too far away on the other side of the river in 'crofts'. What we hadn't realised until recently was how unhappy they were at being forced to leave their old homes. Crofting is a way of life and one they obviously treasured. Reference was made to them in some local history books we've been reading .... "Although the houses that were provided for them in the village were tidy, slate roofed stone dwellings with wooden floors, they seemed to prefer their old tumbledown ruins which they would visit every year. They must have longed for their previous way of life because the procession of the old people to their former homes was a very sad one." What a sad image it paints..... We managed to track down the architects who designed not only the stunning 'Guisachan' house of Lord Tweedmouth but also the village. We found out that there was a collection of architectural drawings being held in a library by the local heritage society. We requested to view them and a lovely, helpful lad at the society phoned to say they had arrived from the archives so we were welcome to come see them. He was very excited himself as he'd rarely seen such beautiful drawings. Needless to say we couldn't wait and set off the next morning. What we were hoping for was to get a good copy of the drawings of our cottage to frame. We have some structural issues that would be better understood by seeing the original layout. The 'Guisachan Collection' is quite beautiful. The plans show incredible detail, awash with watercolours that are a work of art in themselves. The collection should contain some 60 odd plans of which there were only 23 for us to see and most guttingly not one for our house. So disappointing.... We had been told that a fire in the archives some years ago may have caused some misfiling as a result, so our contact has said he will try his best to find any more for us. I think he likes a challenge. All we can do is wait and carry on researching and learning. As obsessed as we all are by documenting everything with photos these days it's an awakening to remember that unless you were an estate owner paying a photographer to take pictures of your fine house or shooting party, chances are there is no photographic or pictorial evidence that either you or your home ever existed. I don't suppose these old crofters had the time or energy to write a diary, so much living history that may be forever lost. The search goes on though ....down but not defeated 😊 Onwards and upwards
