Whatever, Sloppily Love (Translate, 20230813) [Eason Chan - 是但求其愛]
If love seeks only happiness1 (If love sloppily seeks happiness) – I asked
and not ask love to be sorrowful? (should we also seek sorrowfulness in love?)
Clumsy for half of my life -- I can't comprehend what love is.
Looking back, I never earnestly planned for my future.
Now living in solitude, I get to reflect and examine what love is
and then you are here.
Amidst the chaos, I met you.
The romance camouflages everything into hope and anticipation.
I suddenly feel that our affection is so deep, so adorable for a moment.
Through the echo of my confession,
I realized that sentience was never the same as love.
If one seeks only a lifetime of love (If one sloppily seeks forever love) -- you asked
and fear – only fear – casually trapped in this love until the end of my life. (and fear -- only fear – trapped in this love until the end of my life.) [and fear my only fear of this love is to be trapped in eternity.]
You endeared your parents,
I hold compassion for my dear friends,
we are both good people no matter how.
If love seeks only sincerity (If love sloppily seeks someone sincere) – I asked
and not ask love to be faithful? (should we also seek loyalty in love?)
Even if our ideologies and philosophies are mostly aligned
yet we fail to harmonize
then it isn't worth discussing how match we can be.
Upon parting (upon encountering)
I wasn't expecting a deep hug
sparked the unexpected flames between us.
I hallucinated that we could resume this once-upon-a-time relationship for a moment.
As I comprehend that moment and reminisce
this feeling is not love.
If one seeks only a lifetime of love (If one sloppily seeks forever love) -- you asked
and fear -- only fear -- casually trapped in this love until the end of my life. (and fear -- only fear -- trapped in this love until the end of my life.) [and fear my only fear of this love is to be trapped in eternity.]
You seek perfection at work,
I work diligently for my future,
how could we have attention divided?
If love seeks only sincerity (If love sloppily seeks someone sincere) -- I asked
and not ask love to be faithful? (should we also seek loyalty in love?)
Even if our ideologies and philosophies are mostly aligned
yet we fail to harmonize
then it isn't worth discussing how match we can be.
If love only seeks peace of mind (If love sloppily seeks to be at ease)
and fear – only fear – this love to be casually stable. (and fear -- only fear -- this tranquility of love.) [and fear my only fear of this love is stability.]
If love only seeks this lifetime with regrets (if love sloppily gives this lifetime with regrets)
should we ask for another life? (Should we not ask for another life?) [Should we ask for another sloppy lover?] {Should we not ask for another sloppy lover?}
Depends on the abilities of the two
and if their scars of love
are a perfect match.
The love of diversity -- the seven prismatic colors, the five flavors of taste
even more dust
would fall into the five aggregates of clinging.

Gör her şeyin nasıl karardığını... Dünyanın elle tutulur huzuru öfkemi kabartıyor, arzunun lezzetini berbat eden, gecikmiş bir tat bırakıyor ağzımda.... Ruhum canımı yakıyor.... Uzakta bir duman çizgisi yükselip dağılıyor...
Kaygılı bir sıkıntı, düşüncelerimi senden başka yöne saptırıyor...
Her şey ne kadar boş! Biz, dünya ve her ikisinin kendi sırları.
Huzursuzluğun Kitabı / Fernando Pessoa

Jayne Baek is barely getting by. She shuffles through fashion school, saddled with a deadbeat boyfriend, clout-chasing friends, and a wretched eating disorder that she’s not fully ready to confront. But that’s New York City, right? At least she isn’t in Texas anymore, and is finally living in a city that feels right for her.
On the other hand, her sister June is dazzlingly rich with a high-flying finance job and a massive apartment. Unlike Jayne, June has never struggled a day in her life. Until she’s diagnosed with uterine cancer.
Suddenly, these estranged sisters who have nothing in common are living together. Because sisterly obligations are kind of important when one of you is dying.

Marbled Monday
It's a mishandled Marbled Monday with this copy of The O'Donoghue: A Tale of Ireland Fifty Years Ago by Irish novelist and raconteur Charles Lever, Esq (1806-1872). The book was published in 1845 in Dublin by William Curry, Jun. and Company with illustrations by H.K. Browne (Hablot Knight Browne, 1815-1882), an English artist and illustrator also known by his pen name, Phiz. The first illustration in particular caught my eye—it's a guy (and his gun) being thrown out a window with the caption "The Reckoning." And what a reckoning, indeed!
The marbling is a pattern called Spanish Wave that also features brightly colored veining in red, yellow, and a darker blue. I called it a "mishandled Marbled Monday" because of the abrasions to the front and back covers of the book and the library accoutrement attached to the front inside covers. Certainly not how we would treat a book in our collection these days, though this one was recently transferred to our collection from the library's general stacks.
The bookplate that doesn't have a library pocket glued over it is that of the Earl of Mexborough, though which one we aren't sure. It is likely that it was owned by John Charles George Savile, 4th Earl of Mexborough, as he was alive from 1810-1899 and this book was published in 1845. The bookplate features the arms of the Savile family, with three owls on a diagonal stripe, a lion on either side in chains, and an owl atop a knight's helmet at the top. It includes the family motto: "Be fast."

Late Night Farewell Practice (Translate, 20230108) [Zpecial - 深夜告別練習]
Stepping on the road alone before dawn, wandering
Pacing with the fastest speed, roving
Unsought, unwittingly going back and forth
Loitering in the dark, stumbling
Yet, one day someone is on the road, looking back
I can’t forget those sparkling eyes, like surging waves
The spotless, scarless heart
lifted the yearning of this life
Stepping through this journey hundreds of times, just wanna meet
Shuttling through the streets feels like a practice
Could you be in front of or behind me? Just a split second from brushing our shoulders
Leaning, reversing, and turning around on the track
Me and you in a flash of space-time feels like infinitely closed
If (I) miss this moment
we will remain strangers at the end
Bend down to speed up then stand straight under the moonlit night
(I) refuse to go home every night to find this person
gradually forget the minute hand (on the watch), seeking (her) in regrets
Skating through the cold weather as usual, stepping into the hot summer
Feeling bewildered, about to have this old dream buried
Ushering in a miracle and run into her
(I) dare to start a conversation
Traveling together on the same route, skating through fantasy, prattle
till (we feel) thirsty, and share a bottle of water – would you?
The blurry laugh and derision
(I) couldn’t fathom if that night was real or not, but (us) have blossomed
Leaned, reversed, and turned around on the track
Me and you in this flash of space-time felt like infinitely closed
Met at this moment
and remained unfamiliar still
Bent down to sped up then stood straight under the moonlit night
I was not going home tonight – to be with this person
gradually forgot the minute hand (on the watch), roamed on the road together
Nevertheless, you, but then, turned around
You need to leave without a trace
Bade farewell at that moment
said you like that I am just unfamiliar enough
With the glittering tears, kissed me, said goodbye, and “don't ask anything”
I again, glanced back slowly -- heartrending
I hope for a new day to continue and wait for our sequel

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of August of 2024. Here are the 9 books I read and reviewed for August. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
