i do have to say though that this is totally how i thought venom 2011 was going to go. the first like, four-ish issues got my hopes up so much. i really honestly thought it was going to be drawing parallels between symby and flash how they are ultimately just tools of the government, just weapons that can be discarded in pushing the military's agenda.

this whole page drove me insane at the time and it still kinda does. the way flash is lying directly to his superior to stay with symby longer despite how much he's been drilled that being with the symbiote too long is a danger. they aren't friends yet this early but there's still this impulse to stick with it. and it's because they're parallels!!! the symbiote is quite literally being treated as a mindless tool by the government - it's deprived of all rights that a sentient, sapient being requires. it's trapped and it's being forced into serving and fighting on behalf of a government that doesn't even care for it. likewise, flash is being given the illusion of choice, and to some extent he still does have a choice, but he's being so manipulated by the government here that really he is also just a mindless tool for them - or at least, they want him to be mindless about it. the final fucking panel at the bottom of the final page is crazy.

it was such a strong start to a run that i was very apprehensive about due to aforementioned lack of knowledge of flash as a character, and my general fed-up-ness with the way the comics had been handling venom and eddie in general during that irl time period. so i was so so hoping that it would be taking a blatant and staunch anti-military stance, or even at the bare minimum if it was even still done in a liberal way, as long as there was still SOME criticism of the military complex i would be jumping for joy. and the idea of flash and symby then also bonding during all that?!! crazy. but then it just kinda. goes off the fucking rails halfway through that run/??? like demons and hell and satan kinda off the rails. absolute bonkers. i need to reread venom 2011 actually i barely remember it it was like a fever dream to me. could have been because i descended into madness shortly after i read it but i digress

So... Sasuke saved the video in case it became necessary to show to Naruto, should the time come when he realizes he has feelings for her. By deleting it from Naruto's phone, Sasuke is protecting Hinata's feelings at the same time, because if Naruto saw it, and where they stand right now as foster-siblings, things might get way too awkward and who knows if Naruto is the one who chooses to pull further away, but after that phone call he had with his bestie, Sasuke predicts that the real creator of all their problems is Naruto and his mistrustful, anxious-avoidant behavior. Sasuke will eventually become certain that Hinata is the most stable in their situation, that she'll never change even if their circumstances do. It's mainly Naruto who needs to grow.

Sasuke's like the ultimate confidante in this fic. Not much of a wingman though, since he isn't one to meddle in their personal biz. But he's gonna do his best for the both of them.

Hinata is definitely Naruto's favorite person, but he's so hyperfixated on their pseudo-siblingship to look at her romantically. Ironically, he seems to have zero interest in romance, putting family and friendship first, while finding time to get laid like it's just a hobby. This is one of the major hurdles Hinata is going to have to overcome, because of how at-odds their values are. 😔

I don't know when I'll be updating it. 🥲 I'm just a taaaaaad bit distracted by my new fics. 🙈 Which are also overdue for updates. 😩 But also, I'm a tad bit stuck with AWY at the moment, despite having a plan for the next part and the part after that, and that, until the winter break mini-arc. 🙈 My last WIP draft for AWY just wasn't working and I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. 🥲 But I've been trying to work on it in the back of my mind. 🤭

I'll just do one point, for the Richie side of the fight, as I the writer don't have much to say about it but yeah it was-- Shit was brutal. It was very interesting to look at the freezer fight again with the perspective of Tony in mind and going,,,, huh,,,, they could both be talking to her, in this. The You're Nothing really also-- I wonder if Carmen will ever actually say that to someone, in canon. I don't think he could. But also they might just be saving it for the biggest explosion.

Writing Carmen's dialogue for this was very tough and interesting, for me-- Because like-- With the information he had, I kinda got it. Like yes 100% self-destructive tendencies but also I think I could sympathize with like, essentially him thinking he was basically some sort of manic pixie to be fixed by Tony. He was wrong, but like-- I get the concern. He shoulda voiced it better but I get him.

YEAAHHHH, YEAAHHHH Tony before this chapter for the most part I think only displayed the good/quirky parts about being the anxious helpful hero type, and this chapter and onward I think really got into the genuinely self-destructive behaviours of her thinking she needs to be able to take shit.

There was in fact, something going on there. With the invoice. LMAO. Tony's nice but she understands the power of a dollar

The repeated 'did i do something wrong' across multiple chapters-- Fuckin, in anything 'did i do something wrong' will always fucking get my ass. Like it's just so. It's. I'm, I'm fuckin sweatin just thinking about it. It always hurts.

It's funny that while writing that line, I had always planned for that line to be like, the spinebreaker but I was worried, when I had actually put it to paper, that readers were somehow not gonna think it was that bad. I'm glad everyone thought it was horrifically bad. He fucked up there.

I won't comment much on Carmen's POV because there's some surprises I have in stock, for you, with that-- But I do agree. I think Carmen is typically slow to realize he fucked it-- But when it's something like that and everyone has a volatile reaction-- He's gonna know immediately that it's over.
