let me talk about hobie + his role in the film for a second here -

so like, to me it was so deliberate how he is not only aesthetically punk but also? every decision he makes just aligns with the values that the punk movement holds, he offers gwen a place to stay in his dimension, now personally whether it could be viewed as romantic or platonic it is more important to me to highlight how it's about offering protection and a place to stay for someone younger than him that needs it. it's about standing up for the ones who cannot stand up for themselves or need the help and not relying on institutions to do so but creating the opportunity and giving everything one might have to someone who needs it. he said it textually when he mentions he is looking out for her drummer. i think the only reason he joined the spider cop club was to keep an eye to see if there was anyone in need. this protection comes not as a contrast of his cool persona but rather as a compliment. he is the biggest hype man for pavtir also someone who has been spiderman less than he has, and someone who could also be seen as in disadvantage. it also is the background for his role in the story of the film. he never imposes himself on miles, but instead immediately offers support, it's clear that he already knew about miles' role in the big picture, and he simply asked gwen whether she told him or not. it wasn't his responsability to tell miles nor was it his place, however when miles disrupted the canon event he immediately saw the potential in him. and this got confirmed to him in the scene where the canon events are explained to miles and he immediately questions it. hobie provides guidance and it is viewed as not helping but he was helping miles and gwen, not the spider society. that is the epitome of the punk movement and it is refreshing to see a character who aligns himself with the movement beyond just "fuck the government" he didn't put the blind trust other characters did on the organization and he knew where this was leading up to. and used that knowledge not to only quit when he quit but to help others who needed it.
