Bit of a smaller, fluffier thought but hear me out.

Juniper wants to speak with Reginald alone, which he finds a little suspicious, but whatever. It’s not like he could get away with anything. Then after a brief discussion, Juniper pulls out a ring box and asks for his blessing. He seems to be the closest person Phoenix has to a father, after all.

It takes all of Reginald’s willpower not to start crying right there.

So they’ll be surprised but excited to see and meet a new agent.

If you two get along, great! You have a new friend now, one that constantly follows you.

When you have a mission they always try to go with you if possible, though they are fully aware they are the best the agency has.

Never brings you on their missions, they are far too dangerous for someone as new as you.

They’ll take it upon themself to teach you everything you need to know.Speaking of, forget the training manuals and videos, who needs that when you have the agent Phoenix?

Honestly, he isn’t that surprised at there being a new recruit, but he is a little surprised.

So if you show him some potential he’ll immediately take you under his wing and care.

He’ll opt to teach you everything you need to know, mainly with the manuals and videos. But he’ll occasionally take something from Phoenix’s book.

But after Phoenix’s missions and tricks? He’s being a lot more careful with newer recruits.

For your first few missions he is internally freaking out constantly.

But he tries to make sure you don’t realize, otherwise you might freak out as well.

So he does everything in his power to be there for every step of the way if possible.

It's highly likely she won’t even realize, uncaring for any agency agents.

And she’ll continue to not care until you make yourself known, whether its against her or her bots

But even then it’s more of a one shdie rivalry, if you prove to be good enough.

If you are good enough, she’ll try to gather any bit of information she can to take you down.

My IEYTD AU fic WIP

When the EOD intercepts a message that suggests World-Famous actor John Juniper may be a target of Zoraxis, the agency dispatches an agent to keep an eye on him and protect him should the need arise. And who does Handler sign up for the job but the agent who destroyed the Death Engine itself?

The Agent resents this new mission, she's built for espionage, not body guarding. (Not to mention the fact that her charge is "flirty" and full of himself to say the least.) But Juniper's entourage is more than suspicious, and Zoraxis attacks seem to threaten his life everywhere he goes.

That's when she realizes charming, fun-loving Juniper may unknowingly be in the center of a Zoraxis plot for world domination. And when she gets far too.. invested in her job. But in the field, agents aren't supposed to get emotionally attached.

And for good reason…

This AU and fic were heavily inspired by the novel "Close Quarters", a prequel novel to the TV show "Alias".

I thought long and hard about using they/them for Phoenix in order to cater to the biggest audience (leaving Phoenix's gender up to the reader). But I decided to use my She/Her Agent Phoenix for several reasons, one of them being there is a sad lack of Female Agent Phoenix's out there.

I'm really excited to finish the first chapter. :D

IEYTD Dates

I’m pretty sure the IEYTD franchise all takes place over the course of like a year, if not a few months, and frankly, I feel so bad for Agent Phoenix. Imagine going through all of that in such a short window of time!

While it’s hard to get exact, precise dates, we can finagle a rough guesstimate out with information in game (my favorite type!)

So, we know that Seat of Power took place on July 30th due to Solaris sending an email basically asking what the everloving fuck was going down on earth that lead to such erratic targeting (it was Phoenix)

And we know that the agent gets on the death engine soon after Seat of Power as Handler is really surprised that the team in decryption already got the intel to them. But we also know there’s a window of a few days between Seat of Power and the Death Engine, as there’s an E-Mail from Professor X-Ray that was sent on August 1st

Now, this would make things messy, as X-Ray is implied to be dead before Seat of Power, but thanks to this being z-mail, we can make an assumption that this was a scheduled email that was written before X-Ray’s death, set up to be sent out when there was a shipment of orange juice to the Death Engine. And, thanks to the juice in the Agent’s shuttle, it’s safe to assume it’s likely August 1st when the Death Engine takes place. It probably isn’t later than that because the orange juice shipment was most likely on the personnel shuttle that was being sent up with Solaris’ assistant. We know she was expecting them because she’s not surprised by their presence, in fact she’s implied to be expecting them in her dialogue.

Then in IEYTD 2, we get a year.

1967.

I’ll be honest, this detail has always bugged me because just because it was carved in that year doesn’t mean it necessarily confirms that’s when IEYTD 2 takes place, but more on that later-

Regardless the year, we get a day confirmation on the clap-board in Safe and Sound, August 22nd

And we know it’s almost certainly the same August thanks to what we know about the EOD.

They don’t have the budget for vacations or real plants or bereavement for the Handlers, so they almost certainly wouldn’t give the agent A YEAR of medical leave. And we also know that there aren’t any missions between the Death Engine and IEYTD 2 because Handler says “we can’t let Zoraxis know you survived your last mission”

Phoenix gets AT MOST 16 days to recover if they arrived at the Death Engine the day that z-mail was sent out on August 1st, and only 15 if it was the 2nd.

Then on to IEYTD 3

Now, the week and day is hard to find, but we do get a license that is implied to be administered at a temporary license in:

1967. The same year as what was written under the desk in Stage Fright in IEYTD 2z

Now, do I have a whole mold math post that basically says it’s 7-15 days on the generous end? Yes. Do I also know that’s shaky evidence? Yes.

BUT, we also have real locations. Many of the locations have set weather that doesn’t have much shifting, but there’s ONE level where the weather shifts greatly from summer to autumn. And that’s in Operation Blindspot!

Reginald says that Prism was lost on the interstate heading across Bering Strait. For those who don’t know (like I didn’t) Bering Strait is in Alaska, where while they have temperate summers, when it gets cold, it gets cold. And fast. On average, Bering Strait’s snowfall starts in September and really takes off in October, so it’s most likely that IEYTD 3 takes place in early to mid September, as while it’s cloudy, there’s no indicators that it’s freezing, something Schell would have put in if they wanted to like in Cold Shoulder.

So the Agent goes from a normal, maybe even rookie agent, to Agent Phoenix, protector of the world and famous EOD agent in the span of approximately 2 months. I do not envy them, that sounds like hell

You’re last ones in The Hard Deck that night. Rooster’s still playing the piano as he sings quietly to himself, the serenade of ‘Love Me Tender’ flooding through the almost empty bar. Jake sways gently with you in the space by the pool table, where Bob and Phoenix play a game of nine ball. Jake’s cheek is pressed to yours as he holds you close, the scent of sea still clinging to his skin.

It’s been a minute since you did this, took a moment to just simply be. Life’s been too busy, there hasn’t been much time for the two of you, he’s been on mission aboard a carrier over the past few weeks, and you’ve been covering shifts for one of the other K9 handlers whilst they’ve been on leave.

“I’ve missed this.” He murmurs, his lips ghosting across your jaw as he speaks. “I’ve know I’ve not been around…”

He trails off as you tip your head up to meet his gaze. You know his relationships prior to you have been transient, a series of disasters that have ended due to the nature of his job. He worries sometimes, about what happens when he goes away, that you’ll wake up one morning and realise you’re better off without him. That you’ll find someone more solid, who’s a fixture in your everyday life.

“I’ve missed you too Jake.” You tell him. You see the edge of his mouth tipping up into handsome smile of his, the one that makes you weak at the knees. “Why don’t you come home with me tonight and I’ll show you just how much.”

OK, so this is kinda niche but hear me out

the X-men movies (the newer ones with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as Erik and Charles) and TUA kinda follow the same pattern.

They're both stories about a group of traumatized superpowered people, part or which struggle to accept/live with said powers, and who could be considered a dysfunctional (found) family.

The first opus (First Class & s1) is great, it introduces lots of characters, most or which we won't see again (Sean, Emma Forst, Azazel & Patch, Cha Cha, Hazel, Agnes), some of which are secondary but who we'll see again in the next two opus but not in the last (Alex, Moira & Grace, Pogo). it sets up the dynamics and the backgrounds of each characters, and kind

The second opus (DOFP & s2) is also great. it introduces a new important character (Peter & Lila) whose the child of one of the antagonists (Erik the young & The Handler). it delves further into the pre-established dynamics, explores new ones and pleases the fans with the comeback or cameos of beloved characters (most of X-men of the old movies & Dave, Hazel).

The third opus (Apocalypse & s3) is far from the other two. it's not bad, but the writting quality has clearly dropped. plot holes become more apparents and the newest characters are barely developped before being thrown away (Angel, Psylocke & most of the Sparrows). however, most of the characters stay true to themselves and this opus still feel like the other ones.

The fourth opus (Dark Phoenix & s4) is just bad. it ruins many characters, ignores the development of others and overal makes NO SENSE. one of the cutest couple ever gets a kind of happy ending tho (Charles and Erik & Hazel and Agnes).

idk maybe that's just me. haven't seen Dark Phoenix & TUA s1-3 in a while tho, so I might be missing or misremembering something

i don't personally hc juniper x phoenix because my phoenix is aroace, but i do love the art i see of them on tumblr, it's so good :>

my hc of juniper and (the 20yo version of) phoenix is that the more shenanigans phoenix does, the more frustrated juniper gets with him, but the thing is juniper is also like kinda fricking attracted?? (my juniper is bi and my phoenix is genderfluid so) and phoenix absolutely adores seeing jj so angry, especially when the anger is directed at them, so they keep trying to find ways to annoy him even more.

in ieytd2 when they first meet juniper, they're completely oblivious to the fact that he's attracted to them, and handler secretly likes watching the drama but can't stand the fact that phoenix has no idea, so handler ends up hinting at it in between operation: safe and sound and operation: rising phoenix. phoenix is surprised and kind of awkward at first but then they're just like 'oh ok cool, still gonna continue annoying him'.

when jj falls in rising phoenix, phoenix doesn't say anything, but inside they're really shocked, and feel kind of guilty too. they did pull that lever, did they not? sure, juniper was trying to kill them just a moment earlier, and for the entire week, really, but... still. it felt wrong to them.

and they're also reminded of just how ruthless zor and the fabricator can be - they'd just gotten used to the safety of the nice elevator box and eating oranges with the peels that they'd almost forgotten they were still in the heat of danger.

this turned into a phoenix hc rant hah
