several sentence sunday <3 :)
Tumblr media
hello! Hope you all had a nice week 💛 thank you to thank you to @happiness-of-the-pursuit @anincompletelist @rockyroadkylers @getmehighonmagic @wordsofhoneydew [SO MANY TAGS ARENT WORKING so they're below the cut I am so sorry] for the tags :) :)
Instead of sharing a sweet snippet from city of angels au or a fun snippet from proposal au, I am going to share with you a snippet from an incredibly cursed crack fic i started. It was revealed to me in a nap dream. It's a Hannah Montana the movie au. Popstar!Henry and Cowboy!Alex. It is deeply unhinged. See for yourself. I am so sorry. I promise i am also writing serious good works.
Henry never thought he’d become a global pop superstar. Millions of people screaming his name, hundreds of bras thrown on stage, so many records sold. A face full of glitter and a heart full of dreams. But no one really knows Henry. Not in a way that matters. Herny Mountana belongs to the fans. Henry Fox has to belong to himself, or else he'll vanish. Henry Fox loves country music. He loves open air, blue skies, moonshine. Herny Mountana loves bleach blonde wigs, sparkly cheekbones, jumpsuits, and heeled boots.  They couldn’t be more different. But he knows the price he has to pay. The price he pays every day for fame, for fans, for his goals.  No time to ruminate. He has a concert to play.
yes his name is herny mountana. no it is not a typo. yes his disguise is literally just the fuck ass rwrb movie wig. yes he whips it off dramatically in the Big Reveal only to show the exact same hair.
xoxo roop

WRITER ASKS! 31, 32. <3
hi friend! thanks for asking!
31.  Least favourite part of writing
When I know my start point and I know my end point (whether it's a overall idea, story arc, individual scene, whatever) and I just can't figure out how to hoop the fuckin' ball. It's so frustrating. I think I am getting better at a) letting myself move on to something else and b) leaving myself helpful notes for trying again, so maybe one day I'll hate those moments less lol.
32.  Most difficult character to write
Currently, Nora Holleran (RWRB). Absolutely, hands-down. She's a nebulous little gremlin and I love her but often she's so Nora that I can't figure out what she'd do in a given situation so I just kind of... don't include her as much as I might want to in my fic wips.
In my current original wip, I'm finding that Hannah, one of my MCs' roommate, is giving me grief. Writing a supportive friend that's distinct from the other supportive friends in the narrative but still compelling is HARD.

🥭🍌
Love that you went for a really easy one and a REALLY HARD ONE, you're keeping me on my toes and I respect it, pal!
🥭 Rank from most enjoyable/fun to write to least: Fluff, Smut, Angst, Crack.
Smut, angst, crack, fluff. Smut is enjoyable because (I think) I'm good at writing it, angst because I am ultimately a monster who loves making people feel their feelings. Crack is fun but it also a hard balance to get right, and fluff I do enjoy writing but I'm bad at letting Big Feelings sneak in there along with the fluff lol.
🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?
I HAVE TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE WORKS ON AO3 WHY DO Y'ALL INSIST ON DOING THIS TO MEEEEEEEEE.
Ahem.
All of Ah, leaven help me, he's dangerous is, in my not-so-unbiased opinion, a masterclass in horrifyingly hilarious puns, but "Patrick’s filling moistens as he takes in the crisp, clean lines, the creamy middle layer catching his attention immediately. Oh, he wants to share a tray with this bar; he didn’t know it was possible to want this much. He’s so busy imagining how their flavour profiles would match that it’s almost a surprise when the tray is set down right next to Patrick’s own" might be the bestworst of the lot. Not least because I wrote it at 3am, sent it to @nontoxic-writes and @januarium both of whom initially thought it was just... human porn that I'd decided to write in the most purple prose way possible, for some fucking reason.
There was also the absolute throwaway joke of having a twitter account called "Iambic Tweeter" that tweeted in... well, iambic pentameter at the start of chapter 3 of the RWRB actor AU which, frankly, did not get the attention it deserved because that was peak twitter nonsense back in the pre-Elon twitter and I thought it was great, personally.
There was also, of course, Rebecca Québécois as a Hannah Montana expy. But that name was crowdsourced lmao.

Yeah tumblr does that. It's wild. And I did, mostly!
Yeah same. I haven't really paid attention to her since Teen Wolf but I spend so much time neck deep in media i feel i would have seen her SOMEWHERE. And I never got into Superman And Lois. My superman will always be Tom Welling, it's the one I grew up with.
Oh same with most fandoms i'm into! Multishipping is fun!
Lol i'm glad i'm not alone. And yes, the glee fandom was toxic sometimes - as was the show itself. Remember Shooting Star? And yeah I watched the documentary too. It was... interesting. I liked it. But not too much. The way they talked about the "glee curse", I was like "y'all do realize that two thirds of the deaths happened after the show ended right??"
Yeah at least we can communicate and have the priviledge of knowing out friends.
I'm glad you did! Yeah nobody ever acknowledges the very much needed period of recovery from vacation. And yeees, reading is so much easier now. Not even just reading, but writing and using my phone.
Ooh Bikeriders is on my watch list! I'm waiting for it to hit the streamers. And that's a great list of fandoms. Ok now to my list of fandoms: we got some in common (911, teen wolf, stranger things, shameless, heartstopper, rwrb, supernatural, marvel, and i'm adjacent to shadowhunters (never watched but have read fic in the past. Mostly gay fanfiction shipping the blonde guy with other guys.)). Then there's other fandoms: scooby doo, glee, harry potter, percy jackson, twilight (got in via my mom, who used to love the movies. She dipped out from the fandom and i stayed), drop dead diva, btvs & angel (Cordelia Chase my beloved), hannah montana and various disney shows, and a few more.
As for today's question: do you prefer reading books or fanfiction?
tumblr hates us fr. that’s good!
yea that’s what i was thinking! not sure she did much between leaving tw and coming back either, but idk. i used to watch smallville with my parents, but when they stopped watching i did too (mostly bc of the one tv no recording/streaming back in the day 🤣) i’ve thought about starting it up a few times, so maybe one day. i do quite enjoy superman and lois though; one of the best cw superhero shows, so there’s that lol.
it really just depends on the fandom for me, but it can definitely be fun!
mmm shooting star isn’t ringing any bells lol, what is that? yea, it was definitely interesting they were all apart of the same show, but i don’t think that really had anything to do with their deaths. just interesting ig.
it’s like you need a vacation from your vacation lol. that’s awesome! glad it’s helping make writing and reading easier for you 😎
oooh it’s so good! we can ramble about it whenever you get to watch lol. i see we have a lot of good ones in common! what are your favorite marvel characters or ships? i never got into the percy jackson books either. i definitely would’ve been blogging about twilight back in the day if i knew about this hellsite 😂 and hannah montana my most beloved! i’ve rewatched that many times lol.
mmm that’s a tough one. i’ve always loved reading books but ever since i found fanfics they have me in a chokehold. i think it’s bc there’s just so much more you can do with stories in fanfics? like sure there can be multiple sequels to books, but there’s endless amounts of it in fanfic, especially all the things you wanted to see happen but didn’t. i read 10 books at the beginning of the year and haven’t touched one since 😅

Coming Home
It's been years since either Alex or Henry has had a place that they can really settle into and call 'home'. Luckily, Henry has just bought the perfect one.
Kensington has never felt much like a place Henry lives. It feels like a hotel, a beautifully impersonal place to stay for a few nights before moving on. When Alex visits, he sees more of himself in the warren of rooms than he ever sees of Henry (though that may be due to their differing levels of cleanliness). Henry appears in the little things, in his journals and books and that damn copy of Le Monde that makes Alex feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but even the bedroom still feels like a hotel until Alex plops a bag into an ancient chair and lets his shoes fall haphazardly on the antique rug. He leaves things scattered around the room, and Henry asks if he's trying to spread his manifest destiny to his former ruler.
Alex doesn't say anything, and he certainly doesn't tell Henry that Bea occasionally sends him pictures of Henry wearing the sweatshirts and pajama pants he leaves behind. Those are saved in a special folder on his phone, and the way Henry looks in his clothes, everything a bit too short, is one of the best things he can imagine. Kensington may not look or feel like Henry's home, but it is still a place he can relax. It's a place where he can wear clothes that don't fit quite right but remind him that he's loved, wholly and unconditionally.
Alex especially doesn't tell Henry that he's printed a photo from Bea of Henry and David curled up in an antique chair, Henry wearing Alex's old lacrosse t-shirt and reading his copy of The Prisoner of Azkaban, or that the photo is framed on his desk. He just keeps leaving dirty clothes and battered paperbacks and color coded notes around Henry's rooms as if to scream that someone lives there. Someone lives in these staged rooms, and someone uses this museum furniture, and that someone is dating a queer brown American. Centuries of racist, homophobic monarchy can deal.
The White House bedroom is a bit more Alex's than Kensington is Henry's, but it's not really his, either. The White House is, after all, America's house. His family are essentially long-term renters, and no matter how much he tries to settle in, it's still a borrowed space. In four years, some other first child will come along. They'll find the message behind the wallpaper and the few unsealed windows, and maybe they'll paint over his walls like he painted over Sasha's. Hopefully they'll replace the ugly dog painting in the hallway.
He doesn't have quite the warren Henry does, and Henry doesn't settle into spaces the way Alex does in Kensington, but that doesn't mean he doesn't show up in the White House bedroom. He's in the V&A map hanging beside the congressional schedule and in the stacks of classics beside the Hamilton biography on Alex's bookshelf. When he visits, he doesn't stay in Alex's room, but Alex accumulates more and more little pieces of Henry every time. There's the Smithsonian guide book Henry bought and left, the tickets from their trip up the Washington Monument, and the 'emergency jumper' that Henry stores in Alex's closet and Alex absolutely does not study in. He is far too dignified to cozy up in his boyfriend's sweater and let the too-big sleeves flop over his hands (he doesn't know it, but Henry has a framed photo of him working in the jumper and his glasses, courtesy of June). Still, every time Alex hangs something on a wall or moves something in, it's with the knowledge that he will have to move it out in a few years.
The bedroom in the house in Texas that he'd move it to, though, isn't really Alex's anymore, either. It's the bedroom of the person Alex used to be, before he met the love of his life, found out he was bi, caused an international sex scandal, and learned to stop living ten years down the road. It's the bedroom of a boy who refused to look anywhere but dead ahead, and it shows. For years, there was a family photo on the desk, but he'd shoved it into the back of a drawer sometime during the divorce and never bothered to unearth it. There is a photo of him with June and Nora hanging on a bulletin board, but it's surrounded by old to do lists, tutoring schedules, an out of date calendar, and plans for 2016 campaign stops. The walls are decorated with memorabilia from Ravael Luna's and his mom's first campaigns, nearly covering a lacrosse team poster. It's the bedroom of a boy whose only goal was politics, now foreign and slightly dusty from disuse, and a part of Alex cringes every time he sees it. He wasn't happy when he lived in the room as it is now, not really.
Henry says it's good he doesn't fit the room anymore; it means he's grown in the four years since he lived there. That doesn't mean it's not strange to go home to a place that raised him, but no longer feels like home.
His dad's house out in California is the same way, though it never felt like home. Alex has a room there, but it's never really been his, no matter how many campaign posters he hung on the wall or lists he hid between the matress and the box spring. The lake house is the only place from his childhood that remains unchanged, and it's somewhere indescribably special to him, but it was never fully home. It's a place to relax and recharge, a great vacation home, but it's not somewhere he ever fully moved into.
In short, when Ellen Claremont-Diaz is re-elected, neither Alex nor Henry have a place that truly feels like home. Luckily, Henry's bought one. He's bought a four-bedroom Brooklyn brownstone where they can live together, and when he shows Alex the listing, Alex nearly smothers him in affection. They spend election night curled up in a bed that used to be Alex's, looking through floor plans and photos until they fall asleep.
-
When he crosses the threshold of the brownstone for the first time, Henry's hand in his, Alex can't help but imagine what it will be. They'll paint the walls and furnish it themselves, and everything in it will be theirs, al theirs. No more beds bought by dead people, no ugly paintings as political gestures, no jumping through hoops to put a nail in the wall and hang one picture. Henry tugs him forward, leading the way through the house they get to settle into together. Sure, another family may have lived here before, but it feels refreshingly new after their old homes. There are no ghosts in these walls, no centuries of previous owners to contend with. It's a new place for their new life together.
Hand in hand, they explore the living room, deciding where to put the TV and how big of a sectional they can fit in the space. They decide which bedroom to share, and Alex calls dibs on an office, and they plan out a decorating scheme for the guest bedroom that all of their friends and family will be comfortable with. They pick paint colors and enlist the help of June, Nora, and as many secret service and PPOs as they can, and by the end of the day, they're sleeping on the floor of a well-painted house.
The next morning, they take their regular fleet of security vans and spend the morning at Ikea, making final furniture decisions over meatballs and enlisting Cash and Amy to help carry boxes. The photo Henry takes of the living room two hours later shows Amy sitting on the couch she's built and Nora leaning against a bookshelf she put together while Alex and Cash are surrounded by a pile of boards and screws that should be an entertainment center. Eventually, a pizza dinner happens on the coffee table, with paper plates, the first card games in the new house, and lots of laughter. That night, they've moved their sleeping bags to a mattress that should go on a bed they haven't built yet.
They take the building and move in process slowly, interspersing it with walks around their new neighborhood and coffee runs to new shops nearby. They've dedicated the second day to their individual offices, but by noon, Alex has spent as much time in Henry's office as he has in his own, and the same is true for Henry. Which means that after lunch, they're dragging Henry's desk and bookshelf into Alex's office, re-organizing a bit, and planning another trip to Ikea to furnish a second guest room in what used to be Henry's office. By the third night, they're sleeping in a bed (though it doesn't have sheets yet), and when the moving van arrives on day four, the furniture is finished and it's beginning to feel like a home.
Day four is dedicated to all of the personal belongings left in their respective former homes. Cash and Amy help with the heavy lifting as Henry fills most of their bookshelves, leaving an anthology of queer fairy tales on the coffee table. Alex settles into the kitchen, hanging pots and pans from a rack on the ceiling and adding a command hook for his apron near his beloved coffee machine. Henry hangs a framed, pressed green carnation from Bea beside two of Alex's framed photos: one of a gay couple holding a sign that says "STAY OUT OF MY OUR BEDROOM" and another of a man whose jacket says "IF I DIE OF AIDS- FORGET BURIAL- JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE FDA". Nora stops by with a plant and a pair of pride flags for them, and June brings them a photo book of supportive street art from around the world. Shaan buys Henry an 'out of the closet' mug with queer figures from history on it, and Zahra gets Alex one that says 'Dumbest Creature on Earth' as housewarming gifts, and they find a home between the coffee maker and the electric kettle.
David finds his beds scattered around the house, one in nearly every room so he has a place to go if he needs it. By the fifth night in their new home, Alex walks into the bedroom to find Henry cuddled up and reading under the framed issue of Le Monde, wearing one of Alex's t-shirts with David dozing at his feet. He looks content and settled, and it is the most wonderful sight Alex can imagine.
Notes:
Ya girl's back to working in theatre, and since I got into theatre through set that means I'm back to thinking about physical space. I always feel weird writing about settings in prose, because I love the little details but I feel like describing them detracts from the overall mood and plot. Last time I was struggling with something I wrote up a little firstprince study, and y'all were great, so I'd love any feedback on how space is working for you in this. Is there enough of a balance between little details and bigger plot points? Does the space feel real/like it helps develop character? Let me know!

I love how you started reading RWRB and now my dash is flooded with posts of Henry and Alex 💕 I was literally going through the same feelings after I finished the book for the first time
Hannah when I say I love this book I mean I really fucking loved this book. It speaks straight to my soul. It had been on my TBR for a while and I absolutely fell in love with these characters and their story. The amount of highlights I have in both books is unparalleled. Like the banter was excellent, Alex’s chaotic energy, Henry’s sweetness, June and Nora and Pez and Bea, Alex's lists, the texts, the EMAILS, the powerpoint, everything Zahra said, it was fantastic.
I, much like Alex, spent a lot of time wanting other people to tell me what my sexuality was, so seeing him go through that and embrace that journey really resonated with me. I also really identified with Alex’s political journey - being a twenty-something bi woman of color from a battleground state in 2020 was such a wild ride, and seeing Alex have his story with Texas was just gorgeous (funny I’m saying this on Fourth of July - but I cried when Biden finally won and my state went blue, even though Biden and Harris were not my ideal choices for the democratic ticket). In a lot of ways this aspirational Texas-goes-blue, the-bigot-loses, there-are-people-who-really-are-in-politics-to-make-a-difference plot felt like the salve I needed after being emotionally exhausted since 2016.
I really think Casey McQuiston’s writing knocked this book out of the park. Alex’s inner monologue was BEAUTIFUL. I read and reread so many scenes because I was blown away by their writing. That last email from Alex (“give yourself away sometimes, sweetheart, there’s so much of you”) will be metaphorically tattooed on my heart for a long time. I couldn’t resist devouring One Last Stop the next day, because this writing so intimately captures the human condition of being a twenty-something SO WELL. There were so many lines in both RWARB and OLS where I was like “THAT'S HOW YOU DESCRIBE THE THING”. They really captured my heart and poured it onto the page.

Rules: Answer 10 questions, come up with 10 more and tag 10 people. I was tagged by two sweethearts @shellygurumi and @hms-chill xx
Sorry it’s under a read more but with 2 sets of questions this post got long. Also to you two who tagged me, feel free to consider yourself tagged to do my questions too, I’d be really interested to see your answers tbh since you’re both usually people I’d tag in this kind of thing xxx
@shellygurumi‘s questions
WHAT is your favourite color?  pink blue and purple, all in pale pastel shades
Do you prefer to read, write or watch TV/Movies? (Or rank them in order of preference!) I love all of them! watching TV and movies is definitely the easiest and probably the one I do most since I don’t have to think about it but I still absolutely adore reading and writing
What was the last song you specifically looked up to listened to? I’m actually not sure because I usually just shuffle whatever playlist I’m feeling but potentially Don’t Lose Your Head from SIX because I frequently want to listen to that
What was your first pet growing up? What was their name? If you didn’t have one, what did you want? I actually don’t know which pet came first, I’ve had a lot in my life but the first would have either been one of the fish or one of the rabbits. The first of those I really don’t remember the names of because tbh I think some of them might have been gotten before I was born. The first whose names I remember though were a rabbit named Elmo and a Guinea Pig named Moley.
If you can only recommend watching one show, what show would you recommend? omg I really have no idea. there’s so many great shows out there, I think for sheer entertainment value though I’d pick Don’t Tell The Bride
How are you doing today? I hope you’re doing okay. Here’s a big hug! *HUUUG* I love you. thanks for the hug, I love you too! I’m not doing too bad really, definitely a heck of a lot better than yesterday
With an unlimited budget, what 10 items would you go buy from the supermarket/grocery store right now? (Let’s say there’s no one in there but you, so no need to fear the plague.) a fuck load of yeast, good hair dye, coke, can I say the entire homeware section?, new pyjamas, my favourite smoothie (which they didn’t have today :(), some more ice cream, some more fresh fruit, maybe a nice new dress or something since our supermarket has some pretty nice clothes, also some more summer shoes bc I left all mine at uni
What’s the strangest nickname you’ve ever had? no one ever gives me nicknames. at least not that I can remember.
If you started a podcast tomorrow, what would it be about? probably me chatting about one random new hyperfixation each time. Space stuff, a book I’ve read, movies, random bits of history and mythology, videogames, whatever really. It would probably be very Drunk History style except I’m not drunk, I’m just Like That
What is your favorite dessert? Oh GOD. I love a bit of chocolate fudge cake, or brownies, or just anything with chocolate in it tbh
@hms-chill‘s questions
What’s something you’re proud of right now? uh...I managed to get through the grocery shopping without wanting to kill anyone including myself?
Are you socially isolating? If so, who’s with you? Yep. I’m with my mum and dad, both of them have to work but my dad at least gets to work from home so I’m not totally alone all day
Do you have any pets? Want to share a picture? Y’all must already know I have a dog and I will jump at whatever opportunity to share cute pictures of him so here he is asking me for food this morning
Tumblr media
What is your favorite quarantine activity? baking and playing Animal Crossing
If you could only recommend one book, which one would it be? Hannah, why are you doing this to me? I’m torn between rwrb and Not Your Sidekick
What is your favorite thing to learn about? space and history
Do you have a favorite recipe you want to share? okay so I already shared my amazing brownie recipe but here it is again so more of you can enjoy it if you wanna try it out
Tumblr media
What is your favorite quote? I really don’t know tbh, my memory isn’t great and I vewry rarely manage to retain anything like that but one I do like (and sorry, it’s really long but I like the whole thing) is:  “It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end… because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing… this shadow. Even darkness must pass.” from Lord of the Rings
Do you have any holiday traditions you really enjoy? I don’t think my family and I have any ‘just us’ holiday traditions except always going to the cinema and getting take out on Christmas eve. our holidays tend to pretty much like everyone else’s
Do you like where you live? If so, what’s your favorite part of it? If not, where would you like to live? I live 2 places at the moment I guess and I actually really like both of them. Nottingham is really different from what I’m used to at home since it’s a big city and I grew up in a village and now live in a small town. Idk what it is about it but I actually enjoy being there unlike other big cities like London. Where my I guess main home is is really nice as well. We live right by a load of woods and fields and you can go on really nice walks. We also live near the sea so that’s nice and it’s also quiet where our house is but it’s not that far to get into the town so all in all it’s a really nice place to live even if maybe the town as a whole wouldn’t be considered one of the better places to live in the UK. We’re also only a couple hours from London so that’s handy.
okay so the questions I’m giving you guys:
If you could swap places with the protagonist of any book you want, who would you pick and what would you do differently?
If you could learn one new skill instantly today, what would you pick?
What super power would you like to have and what would you use it for? would you do good or evil or just look after yourself?
What is your favourite fanfic you’ve ever read?
What’s something you’re looking forward to?
How do you think/hope your life will be different (or the same I guess) in 10 years time?
What are you going to do once quarantine is over?
Talk a bit about love. Do you believe in it? Do you want it? Do you have it? What does it mean to you?
If you could meet anyone, real or not, alive or not, famous or not, who would you pick?
What’s your favourite time of day?
Tagging: @writingbychelle @wonderfilledness @im-definitely-hermione-granger @meranyth @yareyare-ez @elusive-epeeist @thomasscresswell @ideklovee @dog-suffrage-advocate @qwerty3714

Kiss me underneath the mistletoe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
alex/henry | explicit | 33K (complete)
“And tell them the best bit,” Pez said, excitement clearly visible on his face as he looked around at their little group gathered at a table in the far corner of the bar. Henry placed his head in his hand and groaned loudly. “No.” He said, his words came out muffled and barely cohesive. He could practically feel Nora and June lean closer towards him in search of the story behind his actions. He had the worst friends who didn’t care for his sanity whatsoever. “Come on Hen.” Pez slipped a hand around his shoulder and tugged Henry’s body closer towards him so he was half sitting in Pez's lap while his hands flailed around as he tried to keep himself from falling head-first into the hard surface of the table. “I told them I have a boyfriend.” OR when Henry lies to his family about having a boyfriend he doesn't expect for said boyfriend to get an invite to Christmas. Luckily Alex is far too happy to volunteer as his fake boyfriend which wouldn't be a problem if Henry wasn't head over heels for him.
