Me, reading Harry Potter as a kid: Wow, this book is amazing

Me, re-reading Harry Potter as an adult: Wow, this is problematic. The stereotypical names, I mean, “Cho Chang” is one step closer to the racist phrase “Ching Chong”. And that’s not getting into Kingsley Shaklebolt’s name. Don’t forget how female characters with the exception of Hermione and Ginny are treated, the victim blaming of a male victim of what is basically rape, the fatphobia, the child abuse is handled poorly, Azkaban is basically a human rights violation, the fact the “good guys” also use the Unforgivable Curses, the Professors at Hogwarts abuse their students, Dumbledore grooms Harry into becoming a “Child Soldier” and that “If you have trauma, suck it up, even if you witnessed your friends and family die”. This is coming from someone who was a Harry Potter fan once. Also, there are other books about Wizarding Schools out there; don’t forget, there was a book series published in the 1970′s called “The Worst Witch” about a young witch going to a Boarding School. One of the other girls is arrogant, while one teacher bullies her. The arrogant girl sounds like Draco while the teacher sounds like Snape. In fact, the late Jill Murphy has even called out JK Rowling several times over the lack of recognisation.
