The Great Queer Bridgerton Ship Poll: THE RESULTS!!!
Tumblr media
First off, we’d just like to thank everyone for taking part in this silliness. We clocked in at 204,232 votes when we closed the poll with votes still coming in. Deeply unserious, we’re very touched.
That being said this is also VERY serious. Lives are at stake.
Onto the numbers for places (under the cut - cos it's LONG!)
Or read the results thread here on our twitter.
31. Daphne Bridgerton/Alice Mondrich - 0 votes (0.00%)
Sorry girls!
29 =. Colin Bridgerton/Harry Dankworth - 1 vote (0.0005%)
The Danklin nation were not assembled for this fight. One noble voter stood proud!
29 =. Harry Dankworth/Lord Fife - 1 vote (0.0005%)
The vote is entirely anonymous so we will never know who this one brave soul was that swung for the only Fife ship in the poll. It will ever remain a mystery…
Tumblr media
23 = . Siena Rosso/Mme Delacroix - 2 votes (0.0010%)
Maybe next time, ladies.
Tumblr media
23 = . Violet Bridgerton/Portia Featherington - 2 votes (0.0010%)
The Mama’s did not do it for the voters.
Tumblr media
23 = . Mary Sharma/Queen Charlotte - 2 votes (0.0010%)
Not enough follow through on this tension to capture more votes.
Tumblr media
23 = . Mme Delacroix/Lucy Granville - 2 votes (0.0010%)
The girls are taking a hit in the polls.
Tumblr media
23 = . Gregory Bridgerton/Richard Abernathy - 2 votes (0.0010%)
Our first book character on the list! He fought valiantly.
Tumblr media
23 = . Lord Haselby/Neville Berbrooke - 2 votes (0.0010%)
This niche book only fanon couple did this against all odds. Respect!
Tumblr media
20 =. Kate Sharma/Sophie Beckett - 4 votes (0.0020%)
A previous fan favourite has slipped down the rankings in this poll!
Tumblr media
20 = . Eloise Bridgerton/Edwina Sharma - 4 votes (0.0020%)
A similarly previously popular ship has fallen on hard times this year!
Tumblr media
20 =. Will Mondrich/Simon Basset - 4 votes (0.0020%)
MIA since season 1, but sorely missed.
Tumblr media
19. Hyacinth Bridgerton/Felicity Featherington - 5 votes (0.0024%)
The show may have forgotten you Felicity, but voters haven’t
Tumblr media
18 =. Queen Charlotte/Lady Danbury - 6 votes (0.0029%)
Too many people afraid of the power of these two women kissing.
Tumblr media
18 =. Anthony Bridgerton/Thomas Dorset - 6 votes (0.0029%)
Apparently two men holding each other and falling into a lake isn’t homoerotic enough for some.
Tumblr media
16. Lucy Abernathy/Hermione Watson - 9 votes (0.0044%)
Another book ship taking on show giants.
Tumblr media
15. Eloise Bridgerton/Marina Thompson - 11 votes (0.0054%)
Some people hate to see lesbians winning!
Tumblr media
14. Brimsley/Reynolds - 38 votes (0.0186%)
Our first canon queer ship taking a hit! Only scraping top 15!
Tumblr media
13. Francesca Bridgerton/Edwina Sharma - 96 votes (0.047%)
The votes are starting to pick up now with this outside contender!
Tumblr media
12. Daphne Bridgerton/Cressida Cowper - 211 votes (0.1033%)
A very respectable 12th place for Daphida!
Tumblr media
11. Eloise Bridgerton/Penelope Featherington - 236 votes (0.1156%)
A perhaps shock result to not crack the top ten!
Tumblr media
10. Gregory Bridgerton/Gareth St. Clair - 403 votes (0.1973%)
Huge result for a book character not yet in the show! Top ten!
Tumblr media
9. Colin Bridgerton/Michael Stirling - 636 votes (0.3114%)
A now book based pair on the shortlist from last year, coming into the top ten as an underdog!
Tumblr media
8. Francesca Bridgerton/Michaela Stirling - 677 votes (0.3315%)
Michaela Stirling didn’t throw the first brick at Stonewall for 8th place.
Tumblr media
7. Simon Basset/Anthony Bridgerton - 737 votes (0.3609%)
Homoerotic tension legendary enough that it brought this show into infamy. You’ve served proudly, kings
Tumblr media
6. Francesca Bridgerton/Penelope Featherington - 970 votes (0.475%)
Another outsider in the top 10! The Fran/Pen shooters were not messing around!
Tumblr media
5. Colin Bridgerton/Phillip Crane - 1,052 votes (0.5151%)
One olive oil joke and discussions about Ancient Greece, next thing you know -
Tumblr media
4. Benedict Bridgerton/Paul Suarez - 1,713 votes (0.8388%)
Congrats on all the sex you had boys! It translated into votes!
Tumblr media
3. Kate Sharma/Daphne Bridgerton - 15,911 votes (7.7906%)
Kaphne were leading the way for 5 days this week, only to be pipped to the post in the last few days. Well done on bronze!
Tumblr media
2. Benedict Bridgerton/Henry Granville - 84,285 votes (41.2692%)
Voters gave it their all in the last 24 hours, but ultimately couldn’t take the win. A very worthy silver!
Tumblr media
1. Eloise Bridgerton/Cressida Cowper - 97,204 votes (47.5949%)
Unreal rush at the end, nearly breaking the poll. The sapphics take the crown of Best Queer Bridgerton Ship!

I hope that Lucy Abernathy is mixed (it's been decades since the great experiment, show some results) but I hope Hermonie is East Asian for no reason other than them being blonde and blonder might actually make me lose it. Lucy can be a person mixed with POC alone too (Black and South Asian, Native and Black, etc) but them being distinct doesn't make it as creepy for Richard and Gregory, gives us distinct protagonist and allows everyone to be represented by Bridgerton love interest.
Hermonie is literally coveted throughout the narrative, falling in love every two chapters and getting her happily ever after with a Count and her best friend's brother (who names a child after her).
We need to do what's right.

Hi so first hopefully you don’t think this is too weird but you’re one of the main Gregory Bridgerton fan account on Twitter and I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on this:
In the first Smyth-Smith book, set in 1824, Gregory is in final year at Cambridge. He is said to be around same age as Honoria, who is 21. On the surface it makes perfect sense for a 21 year old to be in final year. However, Greg was born in 1801 and in TSPWL, also set in 1824, he says he is 23. Anthony was due to go to Oxford aged 18. Students typically went to university age 18 (sometimes as young as 15) for a period one to three years. Gregory would have had to leave Eton when he was 18 which was 1819. Furthermore, from OTWTTW we knew he went to Eton and Cambridge with Lord Haselby and Neville Berbrooke. The only explanations for are :
Greg and Neville did a two year grand tour before university and only overlapped with Haselby for one year or the pair of them spent 5 years in university. (Flaw: considering Greg’s allowance I doubt he could afford this and I also don’t think he liked Neville enough)
Completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies a lá Richard Abernathy. (Flaw: that only there’s a two year gap between G&R, they both went to Cambridge but they don’t know each other)
I need to re-read all the Bridgerton books for some more clues about Greg’s whereabouts but honestly, he is the sibling we probably know the least about from the books and this one timeline detail of education should be impossible to get wrong and yet here I am.
Don’t even get me started on Colin and Greg’s show!verse education or book!verse Lucy and Hermione finishing school and debut at twenty years old!
no i love this, this is so welcome! <3 <3 <3
– gregory really is the character whose whereabouts are a big question mark, there's just a bunch of hand-waved "oh, he's off doing such and such" until he needs to show up in TSPWL and IIHK. like he couldn't make the time to come home for his mother's birthday but he's supposedly at daphne's ball at the end of RMB. we need to launch a full-federal investigation.......
– maybe if we say greg is an early may baby we could say he's 22ish in "just like heaven" and the first halves of RMB/WHWW, and then turns 23? and then kate's house party in OTWTTW is later may, hence he'd already turned 26 by the time he meets lucy – i could see greg doing a grand tour, possibly! maybe a much, much more condensed version of what colin was doing. it's pushing believability a little since it's never mentioned AND colin is the one to suggest "you'll have to travel" right after gregory creates the scandal at lucy's wedding. neville.... i don't feel like he's someone who would've liked to be abroad for long and you're right that greg wouldn't have wanted to go with him fjkdslfj
– i think lucy says haselby is a decade her elder.... making him at least 30. if greg and neville are 26, maybe they overlapped that one year at cambridge, but that would mean they did have to start school in 1819 🤔 so then that rules out pre-university travel. unless of course haselby also delayed his studies. much to think about.
– i'm dead jfkdj it says something about richard electing to remain at school even when he didn't have to, and delaying having to take his place in society (i think he's only able to do this for a year though, since he's 22?). but i'm wondering if that's a possibility for either neville or greg to have done (it's not super plausible.... but maybe? 😭). though then that also doesn't make sense for greg to say his path never crossed with richard's at school, unless he meant they were there at the same time but didn't actually ever meet.
– headcanon for hermione (who's prospects hadn't yet been 'secured' the way lucy's were with haselby) is that she asked her family to send her to finishing school to delay her debut so she could keep up her correspondence with edmonds (also why was he encouraging a romance with a 16/17 girl? a discussion for another time....)
– lucy going to school worked out in everyone's favor, with her wanting to be somewhere where she could make friends and davenport wanting a "well-polished" wife for haselby, but it's also sad to think she loses out on having a season she realizes she would've actually enjoyed (so i like to hope that the period between her first and second wedding wasn't too bogged down with scandal, and that she got to have some fun)
– greg in the show not going school.... but we all know that's because they couldn't let the fan favorite character remain off-screen cmon now! (no but 😭 i'm assuming they want us to think his term ended before the start of season 2, and then he has tutors over his break) anyways this is a mess i feel like charlie day in that gif. thank you for sending this ask and i loved all the evidence and reasoning you put together! we WILL figure this out 😤

Modern Bridgerton AU
Gregory & Lucy
Gregory has never been single for more than a month at a time since he was 16 years old. He loves being in love, and has regularly announced to the family “Guys, I’ve met the one! For real this time, this is the girl for me!”. They haven’t taken him seriously since he was 16 years old. He goes to Princeton (he may or may not have broken the heart of a fairly powerful individual’s daughter, and Anthony decided it’d be better if he was out of the city for a while). He does well enough at school, and Anthony gives him a job after he graduates (because nepotism is alive and well).
His sister Hyacinth drags him to a party, where she introduces him to her friends Hermione and Lucy. Gregory has been single for a few months, and immediately decides he is in love with Hermione. But like him, she is rarely single, and is surrounded by guys trying to shoot their shot with her. Gregory ends up on the sidelines talking to Lucy, who decides she likes Gregory more than any of the other guys Hermione has ever dated and agrees to help him out and Cyrano the situation.
Lucy has been dating the same guy since high school. Their families are close, and there’s an understanding that the two will eventually get married. But they’ve been stalling, because while he’s a good guy, he’s also gay. They’ve been together all this time so that he can avoid coming out to their conservative families. But now Lucy’s parents are going through a contentious divorce. And in her mother’s attempt to keep up appearances, she decides an engagement and (small) society wedding is just the thing. Lucy doesn’t love the idea of marrying her gay boyfriend, but she’s desperate enough to get out of her parents’ house that she agrees.
During all this, she’s spending more and more time with Gregory. At first it’s to help him get closer to Hermione. But eventually, they start hanging out just to spend time with each other. And eventually, Gregory realizes he’s in love with Lucy (no, like actually this time, HYACINTH). But of course, she’s about to get married, which he cannot allow. He also knows that everyone is skeptical that it's really love this time, so he decides that a grand gesture is needed. So obviously the day of the wedding, he bursts into the church and proclaims that he objects to the marriage because “Lucy, I love you, and I know that you love me too!”
Side note: Anthony and Kate are at the wedding, because they know the families through some society connection. Anthony nearly passes out and Kate immediately has her phone out so she can facetime Sophie.
All hell breaks loose. The families end up in a side room of the church, everyone arguing. It’s full Shakespearean Act 5 chaos. Lucy's mother is screaming about optics. Her father is yelling about how much this wedding cost (his accounts are pretty depleted from the divorce, but he doesn't want people to know that). Lucy's fiance is like "girl marry him". The fiance's family is furious that they got so close to locking that shit down. Lucy's brother suggests since everyone's here, he and Hermione could get married instead (Record scratch. Did anyone even know they were dating?!). Anthony and Colin (when did Colin even get here?) are trying to talk sense into Gregory. Kate and Hyacinth (Hyacinth drove Gregory to the church - no way she was missing this shit) are keeping up a running commentary to Sophie and Benedict (Sophie went and got Benedict at some point) on facetime.
Somehow everyone walks out of the church unscathed. Lucy and Gregory get engaged about a few months later, but wisely decide that a quiet City Hall ceremony is the way to go (the fact that their first child was born 6 months after the wedding may have had something to do with that decision). They quickly move out to New Jersey where they can have enough room for their quickly expanding family. Gregory continues with the family business, while Lucy splits her time as a stay-at-home mom and local theater volunteer.

Hermione is not an idiot. That is not why Gregory gets over her but because he was more in love with the idea of being in love than with her. And I don't want the show to twist the story to bring down Hermione to root for Lucy. They already made a mess of the Sharmas, I think we had enough of these conflicts among women.
Oh I digress she is very much an idiot. If you think she's not then we both read her character differently in on the way to the wedding. Hermione's whole schtick with being inlove with her father's secretary was as shallow as a shot of watered down caprisun. Fakest friend ever, hardly supportive to Lucy.
I know their friendship was supposed to be written as some sort of sense and sensibility ish kind of thing. With hermione being romantic and lucy being practical. But it just felt that Hermione spent the whole book saying 'oh Lucy you're always so practical and mature and serious' as a way to excuse herself for not caring more about Lucy's life.
Hermione's character irks me, as an individual because I know what MO of the friend who says youre so mature and serious but what she means is "youre so mature and serious COMPARED TO ME, THE FUN ONE".. Oh you guys must know that friend. She's pretty, and she looks kind, but what she really enjoys is the fact that in every comparison between her and her "less charming, less pretty friends" she comes out looking like the "more fun, more romantic, more attractive" prospect. And her kindness is always conditional on the lesser friends never trying to get the spotlight. (If you catch yourself being that type of friend, then please work on being less narcissistic, don't hang out with introverts just so you can look better in comparison when you're out in public, that's just wrong)
Lucy spent way too much time of her own book trying to keep Hermione from falling prey to her own stupidity! Exactly because Hermione was too stupid to listen to her bestie properly.
And in the second half of the book Lucy keeps acting like its her job to keep protecting said idiot's feelings.
I've said it before, Hermione is what Edwina could have been if book Edwina had fluff for brains and no common sense.
I guess between book Hyacinth and Hermione. Most female characters in OTWTW feel so unlikeable. That Lucy shines trough as the only person who seems to be in her right mind. And ends up being too self sacrificial as a result, because she feels so alone and can't confide in anyone about her struggles.
One of the few female characters in the books that I'm okay with the show destroying? Hermione Watson. Edwina Sharma was done super dirty and Book Edwina did nothing to deserve the character assassination she was subjected to but Hermione? she does deserve it. Because she's an airhead and she's a bad friend.
But maybe that's just me. Maybe that's my cross to bear. Don't take my word for it. Check the rest of the blog I rarely talk about Bridgerton characters I don't like.
I don't agree with female conflict in Bridgerton, when it's unfair and uncalled for and manufactured to create drama. But the conflict between Hermione and Gregory of him realizing she's a total airhead who is as shallow as a kiddie pool while Lucy is indeed the brains of the operation. I'm sorry but yes, that's some drama I want to see on screen because it's totally deserved.
And that's the tea
Although truthfully with the whole revenue loss debacle... Netflix may be on its way to dying before Bridgerton reaches Gregory story

I love the Sapphic Eloise Truthers in the Bridgeton fandom. However, if we look 2 letters down to the left, I think Miss Lucinda Abernathy has the potential to capture a beautiful homoerotic friendship with one Hermione Watson.
Lucy literally has no one person constantly in her life other than Hermione, and it's in my personal opinion that she should be held a grudge for the lying.
Now, this book doesn't need any more drama, but Hermione feeling like Lucy would only care to be at her side not caring about romance while she's in love with her brother, keeping it secret and Lucy being hurt and betrayed that the one person who she loves and is there for her would think that she wouldn't be happy for her. There is also a class divide that could play into it, the fact that Lucy contemplates the idea that Richard and Hermione wouldn't be able to live in scandal to reach to the idea that she wouldn't marry Gregory . The material is there.
Angst, resentment betrayal, and a strong female friendship that earns a namesake by the end.
Ms. Shonda Rhimes, I need you to walk with me.
