The fact that you can play a Samurai in Elden Ring is fucking hilarious to me. Like, you’ve got all these other origins and they’ve got some sort of tie in to the world of the Lands Between. Heroes are descendants of Godfrey, Astrologers, Prophets, and all other sorts directly connected to the world or a faction in it.
And then there’s just... like... a Samurai. They’re not even from the Lands Between. They’re a silent protagonist because they don’t speak the fucking language. They have no idea how they got there. There’s one other person in the entire game who’s from where you’re from and he’s a fucking bounty hunter. You miss your horse.
It just struck me that narrative wise, Morgott having a heavy tail and Mohg having large wings may not have been a completely random choice on the part of fromsoft....the omen twins were both shackled to the ground in the sewers, one of the two still heavily worships the guilty system none the less. Morgott clearly toiled to keep the crumbling status quo a float, draining him. The tail could represent that he is still shackled in spirit.(Look at his tail 😭)
But the other, Mohg, possesses so rebellious a spirit, his wings symbolizes a strong sense of independence and freedom. Man got out, and unlike his brother said fuck yall and flew away.
Godfrey was such an amazing character in fromsoft lore.
Man was this absolute unit who loves battle. So much that Marika flat out had to nerf his ass by giving him a sentient phantom lion pelt to wear which keep his bloodlust under control. Any other character this would boost the their power but for Godfrey it nerfs him. He was too broken that this anime power up bullshit actually weakened him.
Not only that but the man was honorable as fuck. He didn’t even talk shit to the tarnished when they first met. He basically said “you fought well to get here. Stand tall, you will die with honor.”
But then the tarnish puts up an actual good fight so he decides to honor them more by going all out, killing Seroch (lion pelt’s name) before fighting you as Hoarah Loux. And how does he fight you? With his bare fist. His bare fists do more damage than the great axe he had. Do you have any idea how ridiculous that is? His fists are so powerful that he’s able to make erupting earthquakes that spew what appears to be lava. His roars actually knock the player back because they’re that powerful. He literally has 2 suplex moves that he can do to the player. One wasn’t enough. He needed two of them. His entire second phase is basically Mike Tyson on crack.
And then when you actually beat him, he actual congratulates the player because he flat out respects them. He feels no anger, or resentment. Just pure admiration that he was bested by such a great warrior like the tarnished. He even tells them that they are fit to wear the crown. Probably extremely proud to be killed by a fellow tarnished too.
Update to an Incredible Elden Ring Mod that improves Morgott's fight:
So, Theres a mod that improves Morgott's Bossfight, chief among them, adding him SUMMONING A SHADE OF GODFERY/HOARAH LOUX to attack with him, alongside a ton of speed, attack, and strength buffs.
And Now they've updated it so he summons Hoarah Loux in the second phase, and it's GLORIOUS
and it works So well in lore, with him summoning the spirit of his father to help him fight.....should have been the final boss.
Forever thinking about a Warrior!Tarnished idolizing Hoarah Loux, and feeling the immense grief and the immense honor for being able to give both Elden Lord Godfrey and the Chieftain of the Badlands Hoarah Loux an honorable death.
Once they become Elden Lord, I imagine they build a mausoleum, with Morgott's grave by his own.
We've been holding this monthlty character AU poll over at the Gubat Banwa Patreon since its launch. Our highest tier would nominate the characters that the Patrons vote on. The winner gets their Gubat Banwa AU drawn, their lore written and their mechanics released for use in their games. Here are the winners thus far!
March - Haor Mangubat (Hoara Loux, Chieftain of the Badlands - Elden Ring)
April - Samuel Rodriguez de la Agos ng Hangin (Jetstream Sam - Metal Gear Rising Revengeance)
May- Sruta Shuyin (Suletta Mercury - Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury)
June - Vasyu Sang Kamaj Bagiw Digra (Vash the Stampede - Trigun)
These were really fun challenges for the team to do, I certainly had a blast drawing them
July's winner is still to come due to all the prepwork we had to do for 1.4's release but hey, y'all will see him soon enough.
Having just read through PAGES of people whining about Malenia and how OP she is/how her fight is stupid because the AI is so powerful/how Waterfowl “can’t be dodged” and she’s “too unpredictable”/how “unbalanced” her fight is, I am here to voice my (probably) quite unpopular opinion that GODFREY has the most unbalanced/OP/can’t be blocked move in the game. I’d rather do 100 back-to-back Malenia fights and survive Waterfowl for five of them than fight Godfrey and be two-stomped to death twice in a row.
