their statue is more in the middle I believe. but I have a feeling it won’t be in Disneyland Hong Kong. But I want to cover Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull, and Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar as well as Indy’s dealings with the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, so here we are. For the purposes of this entry, we will not be covering any of the Indiana Jones movies nor the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles so his status as a background character applies.

In The Temple of the Forbidden Eye, which is set in 1935, the story goes that Indy discovered the a Temple of the Forbidden Eye in the Lost River Delta in Bengal using fragments of parchment. The queue area tells the story of how tourists flocked to the area hoping to see if the legends about the temple god Mara were true, that Mara would bestow one of three gifts upon a person; earthly riches, eternal youth or the ability to see the future. In order to keep funding for their archeological dig after money ran out, Indy’s friend Sallah began conducting guided tours for the tourists and warned about looking into the Eye of Mara. However, some tourists looked into the Eye of Mara and didn’t return. Indy went to look for them but went missing himself. In the hopes of finding Indy, Marcus Brody encouraged Sallah to continue the tours, which is where guests would board a vehicle to search for Indy and their own treasure from Mara. However, the guests look into the Eye of Mara and Mara rescinds his gifts. The guests find Indy who, although angry they looked into the Eye of Mara, helps them out as the Temple of the Forbidden Eye ‘collapses’ around them. Indy appears again, descending from a rope about to jump into the vehicle, when a boulder rolls down and threatens to crush the guests, however, this is averted at the last second and Indy appears a final time next to the now-destroyed boulder as Sallah welcomes guests back.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull is set sometime in the 1930s in the Lost River Delta in Mexico and involves Indy and a new Latino guide named Paco searching for the Fountain of Youth. In this version, the god Mara is replaced by a crystal skull, however the story is pretty much the same as Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

Indiana Jones also has had a few dealings with the Society of Explorers and Adventurers. In 1938, his friend Jock Lindsay was flying with Indy over Disney Springs when Jock fell in love with the terrain and opened up a bar, Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar, that members of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers would frequent, alongside Indy. Some of Indy’s discoveries would end up at the Hangar Bar, including the Ark of the Covenant. Another one of Indy’s dealings with the S.E.A. would come with the Jungle River Cruise: Curse of the Emerald Trinity, the 2015 Halloween overlay of Hong Kong Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise attraction. The attraction queue tells the story of Garrett Reed, a disgraced archaeologist and one of Indiana Jones’ rivals who was expelled from the Society of Explorers and Adventurers by Lord Henry Mystic due to his greed in acquiring artefacts.

A/N: @smut-wars Bee made me this moodboard a while back and I’m feeling self-indulgent and in need of Kris fluff, so I added this little story to it! Enjoy!

Laughter and joyful yells echoed all around. Smiling faces and lasting memories were being created on every corner. No wonder this was considered the happiest place on earth. Or, at least, one of them. 

It was Kris’ idea to take your first big family vacation to Disneyland in Hong Kong. At first, you were worried that people would be crowding the three of you given Kris’ celebrity status, but you were left alone for the most part. Several people stopped, pointing and whispering giggles to each other, but they kept their distance, allowing you to enjoy your time together in peace. 

“Tian, slow down!” you yelled after your rambunctious five-year-old. As she came to a stop, she turned around and giggled at you, pointing excitedly at Belle. You couldn’t help but beam at her enthusiasm. “Yes, but we have to wait in line,” you told her. 

“You can go ahead,” a woman offered, waving you in front of her to greet the costumed princess.

“Oh, thank you so much, but we’ll wait! Her father has the camera.” Speaking of which, you searched around the area, frowning. Kris had left nearly fifteen minutes ago to grab water for the three of you. How long could that take?

“I’m here, I’m here,” Kris chuckled as he approached. In his hands were three bottles of cold water to chase away the heat of the island summer.  

You took one, unscrewing the cap and gulping down nearly half of the contents. “Thank you.”

“Mom! Dad! Hurry up!” Tian whined. 

“Hey, now!” you scolded. If she kept this up, you were going to have stop letting Tao babysit. 

“Tian, you can wait,” Kris added as put the water bottles into the bag slung over your shoulders. Tian pouted, but stopped trying to rush. You wanted her to enjoy these days where the three of you were together since Kris traveled so much, but it was hard to contain her excitement. And it was infectious. 

The three of you waited in line to meet Belle, turning down all offers to allow you to skip ahead. After about the third offer, you explained that you wanted to teach Tian patience and the surrounding parents understood. 

“Well, hello, there,” Belle greeted as Tian shyly stepped up. 

You were crouched down behind your daughter. You tried to be encouraging as you rubbed her back. A broad smile stretched across your face as how adorable she was being. “Are you going to say hi?”

Tian lifted her hand and waved.

“What’s your name?” Belle asked.

Immediately, Tian hid her face in your chest. Neither you nor Kris - who was capturing the whole thing in pictures - could hold back the laugh. Your daughter was always the more outgoing type so to have her suddenly be shy was shocking, but no less a bit entertaining. 

“Do you want to just get a picture?” you asked Tian. Still not showing her face, she nodded. 

Breaking character for only a second, Belle sent you a knowing look. 

“Thank you,” you mouthed to her, gaining a nod in return. 

“Tian, you are very pretty,” Belle complimented. “I love your top!”

“Thank you,” Tian mumbled when she finally emerged from your arms. “My mom has one, too.”

“I see that!”

You threw Kris a look, who beamed at the praise. The matching outfits of simple shorts and a Mickey Mouse t-shirt had been his idea. You weren’t one of those moms who had matching outfits with their kids, but you gave in since it was Disney, after all. 

Afraid that you were holding up the line, you shuffled Tian a little closer and all three of you smiled at the camera and you went on your way. 

Tian’s earlier energy was back when she spotted a new ride she wanted to go on and took off through the crowded street. But she wasn’t fast enough for Kris’ long legs and he caught her in no time, scooping her up in his arms as she squealed with joy. 

“You know better than to run off like that.” That rare fatherly tone was evident in his voice, but the effect was lost as soon as he smiled. 

“That one! That one!” Tian yelled, pointing to the ride. 

Kris turned to you, that childlike excitement evident in his own eyes. “Mom?”

You nodded. How could you say no to those two?

Still carrying Tian, Kris hurried along to get in line with you right behind. 

Several hours later, the sky was dark and Tian was fighting to stay awake. You tried to convince her it was time to go to bed, but she wanted to see the fireworks, so you agreed to wait a little longer. As soon as the first boom sang across the sky, she gasped and clapped loudly at the pretty colors. Kris, too, watched the display in amazement as he blindly took your hand and intertwined your fingers. 

It was moments like these you wished could last forever. The three of you as a family, happy and together. You knew it was inevitable, the going back to reality. Kris was scheduled to leave for the States next week, right after getting home from vacation and it would be just you and Tian again until he came home. 

Leaning your head against Kris’ shoulder, you sighed. It might have been childish, but you wished that time could stop, if only for a little while. If it were to ever happen, this could be the place, right? After all, it wasn’t called the Magic Kingdom for nothing.

D23 Expo Announcements 2019

Epcot:

Renaming and reorganizing the sections of the park into four new neighborhoods: “World Nature” (Future World West), “World Discovery” (Future World East”), “World Celebration” (Entrance of the park spanning down to World Showcase Plaza), and the only returning member; World Showcase. 

A recreation of “Cherry Tree Lane” and a whole new attraction based off of the ‘Mary Poppins’ movies will be brought to the UK pavilion.

“Journey of Water” will be introduced as a walkthrough attraction that connects World Celebration to World Nature. In this ‘Moana’ themed area, guests will learn about the natural water cycle and allow you to “meet and play with magical, living water”.

“Dreamer’s Point” will be a new area located in World Celebration that will feature a wishing tree, a new statue of Walt Disney, and an enchanted forest with a reimagined fountain. (This will be located in the current footprint Pin Central all the way to the Fountain of Nations.)

A new pavilion to play host to Epcot’s seasonal festivals will be constructed in roughly the area currently occupied by Club Cool and the Epcot Character Spot. The three story structure will provide ideal views for the new nighttime firework viewing. 

All of Innoventions West will be demolished to make room for the new pavilion and “Journey of Water”. 

Spaceship Earth (the attraction) will receive upgrades including a new script that will slightly alter the focus of the attraction. Instead of focusing on the history and progression of communication technology, it will instead focus on the changing of storytelling utilizing many of the same scenes from the current attraction. Guests will follow a magical “story light” that will guide you through the experience. 

The 360 films in the China and Canada pavilions, “Wondrous China” and “Canada Far and Wide”, respectively, will replace the current films. “Canada Far and Wide” will debut in January 2020. 

“Awesome Planet”, the new film for the Land Pavilion, will open in January 2020. 

“Beauty and The Beast Sing-Along” will debut in January 2020 in the France Pavilion, sharing the same theater as ‘Impressions de France’. 

“Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” attraction and “La Creperie de Paris” quick/table service restaurant will both open in Summer 2020 in the France Pavilion.

After the limited time run of “Epcot Forever” is concluded, the new nighttime extravaganza “HarmonioUS” will debut as a permanent replacement for Illuminations. It is expected to be the largest production ever created for a nighttime show in a Disney Park. 

The new ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ attraction in World Discovery will be named “Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind”. This will be the first roller coaster in Epcot and will feature a backwards launch. The attraction’s story will revolve around the guests going on a trip to Xandar, of which will go awry once the Guardians of the Galaxy come into contact. The ride vehicle will be able to rotate 360 degrees to allow guests to better focus on the action. 

Next to Mission: Space the new restaurant will be called “Space 220″ and is slated to open this winter. 

General Walt Disney World News: 

A new app “Disney Genie” will be released in late 2020, this app is supposed to help organize and plan your day in WDW in conjuction to My Disney Experience. 

The new Cirque du Soleil show in Disney Springs will debut March 20th, 2020

The new “Reflections” resort on Bay Lake will feature a restaurant inspired by ‘The Princess and the Frog’. 

The Star Wars themed hotel being constructed will officially be called “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser”.

The experience will take place as a two-day, two-night adventure on the ship “Halycon”.

Guests will be immersed into a full story in which their own actions make a difference in how the experience plays out as they come into contact with certain characters and The First Order. 

On one of the days, guests will go on an “excursion” to Batuu, otherwise known as Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park. 

Guests will be able to explore many different parts of the ship, and even train to use a lightsaber like Luke Skywalker with a training remote. 

Disneyland:

A new daytime parade called “Magic Happens” featuring floats from ‘Coco’, ‘Moana’, and more will debut in Spring 2020.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in 2022 in Toontown. The show building being called the “El CapiTOON” theater.

Disney California Adventure:

“Avengers Campus”, the new land in the former home of A Bug’s Land, will open in 2020. 

This land will feature a Spider-man themed attraction in which guests will be able to shoot their own webs in helping Peter Parker capture miniature bots. 

In Phase 2 of the land opening, a new attraction will take guests on a Quin-Jet to Wakanda and experience an intense battle against an unannounced villain. 

A Doctor Strange themed experience will be revolved around the ruins of a “California Sanctum”.

A new restaurant “Pym Test Kitchen” will open that will feature oversized and shrunken foods caused by the “Pym Particle” featured in the ‘Ant-Man’ movies. 

Walt Disney Studios Park (Paris):

Will be home to the other “Avengers Campus” and is set to feature most of the same offerings as it’s California counterpart in addition to the already planned ‘Iron Man’ retheme to the Rockin’ Roller Coaster

General Disneyland Paris News:

New concept art was released for the new Marvel themed rooms in the Hotel New York. 

Hong Kong Disneyland:

In addition to the already existent ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Ant-Man’ attractions, the park is slated to receive some of the same offerings as the “Avengers Campuses” in California and Paris, but under the guise of the “Stark Expo” and not a third Avengers Campus. 

Disney Cruise Line:

The first of three new ships set to sail soon for DCL will be named the “Disney Wish”. It will be the fifth cruise ship in the fleet and will feature the image of Rapunzel on the back of the ship, similar to the Dumbo figure on the back of the Disney Fantasy. 

A new DCL port, “Lighthouse Point”, will open in conjunction to Castaway Cay as a Disney owned and operated piece of land for Disney Cruises to visit on Bahamian voyages. The land, with the help of legendary Imagineer Joe Rohde, will celebrate the Bahamian culture surrounding the port.

TWENTY-ELEVEN: A Time Travel to the Happiest Place on Earth 🚀

I used to wonder as a child how it was possible to be in the happiest place in the world. As someone who is attracted by imaginary creatures and extraordinary places, I fantasized about traveling and being in the place where I would joyfully be, which is Disneyland. I vividly remember watching a random YouTube video of Hong Kong Disneyland, a place where my childhood visions and dreams belonged. Going back through time, I'm very happy I got the chance to travel and explore one of my dream destinations. Let's look back to the year twenty-eleven, time-traveling to the happiest place on earth.

On a Tuesday afternoon, when I was playing in the living room, my grandma unexpectedly called me to her room, where she would tell me something. Minutes later, after receiving the wonderful news from my grandma, I was bouncing all over the place since we had a ticket to Hong Kong in three days. I instantly packed my things, brought my tiny, adorable clown stuffed toy that I had had for years, and was overjoyed at the idea of preparing myself and my belongings for the upcoming vacation with my family. I literally can't sleep for days thinking what the feels and happenings during our trip will be. Finally, the big day has arrived, and I've prepared myself for a fantastic and lavish day with my family. It gave me different feelings and energies as I entered the airport; all I could think about was how close I was to the ideal childhood destination I was left unspoken, and my thoughts were just floating around during our journey, experiencing baffled reactions. As soon as we landed at Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok, I remembered my mother telling me that because it was my first trip abroad, I should kiss the floor in respect and as an appreciation of Filipino beliefs, which I did. I genuinely kneeled and kissed the floor straight immediately, and I'm not sure if they're serious or simply making fun of my first-time experience because of my adrenaline feelings. Moments later, on our way to our lodging, I was stunned by how clean, safe, and lovely the surroundings and culture of Hong Kong were. Everything seemed surreal when I arrived at the scene I had only dreamed about. I didn't miss a single sight to observe how enchanting and delightful Hong Kong could be. It was a breathtaking destination that I never imagined I'd be able to visit. I went to bed early that night in preparation for the most exciting part of our trip, Hong Kong Disneyland.

My magical day began with a wake-up call from the hotel concierge, which led my father to take up the phone and start waking me up. I get up with a beaming smile on my face, sensing the positive energy that will surround me throughout the day. Indeed, it was a great morning to begin my day. I can't think and contain my enthusiasm when we're inside the bus, heading over to the location I'm very excited to see, though I stayed calm and was mesmerized by Hong Kong's breathtaking landscape and surroundings. Finally, we've arrived at our destination, and as I approach the entrance, I can't stop smiling. I feel like I'm flying on clouds, dancing with the stars, and all I can hear is the sounds of silence. I rushed towards the main entrance, where the Mickey Mouse statue stands. I posed on the bench and asked my father to picture me. It was a feeling I would never forget. Then I noticed a booth selling various toys and souvenirs, so I ran over there and found Mickey Mouse's adorable hand gloves. I remember telling my grandmother that I saw this merchandise in a Hong Kong Disneyland advertisement. I also persuaded her to purchase me several items. Even if we aren't even inside the attraction, I can't describe how joyful and delightful I felt. Everything went smoothly and easily that day, with the colorful and lively environment, the magical castle, some rides and attractions, different people, diverse cultures. I'm in a world full of hopes and dreams, although there's fear, it's a small world after all.

I still can't believe my childhood fantasy would come true. I was simply a little boy who enjoyed being alone and playing comfortably at home who had the opportunity to explore and witness the beauty of Hong Kong with his family. Disneyland will always have a special place in my heart because it is where my childhood visions and imaginations dwell. Overall, it was a superb experience for which I will be eternally thankful and cherish for the rest of my life. To my younger self, thank you for embracing your uniqueness and childishness. I can't believe I'm writing this to you, it just goes to show how easily time passes. Always remember I'm very proud and happy for you, and I hope you feel the same way about me. 'Till next time!

Everyone enjoys taking Instagram worthy pictures of the soup dumplings with coloured skins, but those in the know fill their tables with the type of inventive, accurately executed dim sum specialties you’ll come across at forward-thinking places in Hong Kong: blood-red rice rolls packed with fried fish, the city’s top sugar-crusted baked pork buns, and, for good measure, destination-worthy crackle-skinned roast pork belly. Try the winter melon hot pot with roasted squab during the night, when Dragon Beaux moves over and turns into a hot pot restaurant.

Pearl 6101, San Francisco – This restaurant has gained the hearts of metropolitan diners far past its warm, suburban Richmond neighbourhood location. In an exquisitely-tiled corner dining room, chef-partners Mel Lopez and Joyce Conway, offer customers handmade pasta and hefty wood-fired pork chops, accompanied by drinks such as the not to be missed Pearl Martini from partner/bar manager Nahiel Nazzal (it’s Oakland-distilled “sea gin” with Italian vermouth and pickled sea bean).

Olivetta, Los Angeles – There may not be a trendier restaurant in Los Angeles than Olivetta at the moment. The attractive space has four separate rooms with diverse auras, but the chief dining room with its luxurious sitting area, extravagant design, and modest noise level is the ideal spot to experience Michael Fiorelli’s welcoming but refined take on California Italian food. Try the grilled branzino, rye macaroni, and kale salad.

Found Oyster, Los Angeles – LA can always use more seafood restaurants, and this jewel of an oyster bar in East Hollywood has a compact menu from chef Ari Kolender that pulls from his East Coast upbringing. Find everything from steamers and shucked oysters to an enormous lobster roll.

Hong Kong, Kashmir: a Tale of Two Occupations!

Readers from myriad latitudes have been asking me about Hong Kong. They know it’s one of my previous homes. I developed a complex, multi-faceted relationship with Hong Kong ever since the 1997 handover, which I covered extensively. Right now, if you allow me, I’d rather cut to the chase.

Much to the distress of neocons and humanitarian imperialists, there won’t be a bloody mainland China crackdown on protesters in Hong Kong – a Tiananmen 2.0. Why? Because it’s not worth it.

Beijing has clearly identified the color revolution provocation inbuilt in the protests – with the NED excelling as CIA soft, facilitating the sprawl of fifth columnists even in the civil service.

There are other components, of course. The fact that Hong Kongers are right to be angry about what is a de facto Tycoon Club oligarchy controlling every nook and cranny of the economy. The local backlash against “the invasion of the mainlanders”. And the relentless cultural war of Cantonese vs. Beijing, north vs. south, province vs. political center.

What these protests have accelerated is Beijing’s conviction that Hong Kong is not worth its trust as a key node in China’s massive integration/development project. Beijing invested no less than $18.8 billion to build the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, as part of the Greater Bay Area, to integrate Hong Kong with the mainland, not to snub it.

Now a bunch of useful idiots at least has graphically proven they don’t deserve any sort of preferential treatment anymore.

The big story in Hong Kong is not even the savage, counter-productive protests (imagine if this was in France, where Macron’s army is actually maiming and even killing Gilets Jaunes/Yellow Vests). The big story is the rot consuming HSBC – which has all the makings of the new Deutsche Bank scandal.

HSBC holds $2.6 trillion in assets and an intergalactic horde of cockroaches in their basement – asking serious questions about money laundering and dodgy deals operated by global turbo-capitalist elites.

In the end, Hong Kong will be left to its own internally corroding devices – slowly degrading to its final tawdry status as a Chinese Disneyland with a Western veneer. Shanghai is already in the process of being boosted as China’s top financial center. And Shenzhen already is the top high-tech hub. Hong Kong will be just an afterthought.

Brace for blowback

While China identified “Occupy Hong Kong” as a mere Western-instilled and instrumentalized plot, India, for its part, decided to go for Full Occupy in Kashmir.

Curfew was imposed all across the Kashmir valley. Internet was cut off. All Kashmiri politicians were rounded up and arrested. In fact all Kashmiris – loyalists (to India), nationalists, secessionists, independentists, apolitical – were branded as The Enemy. Welcome to Indian “democracy” under the crypto-fascist Hindutva.

“Jammu and Kashmir”, as we know it, is no more. They are now two distinct entities. Geologically spectacular Ladakh will be administered directly by New Delhi. Blowback is guaranteed. Resistance committees are already springing up.

In Kashmir, blowback will be even bigger because there will be no elections anytime soon. New Delhi does not want that kind of nuisance – as in dealing with legitimate representatives. It wants full control, period.

Starting in the early 1990s, I’ve been to both sides of Kashmir a few times. The Pakistani side does feel like Azad (“Free”) Kashmir. The Indian side is unmistakably Occupied Kashmir. This analysis is as good as it gets portraying what it means to live in IOK (Indian-occupied Kashmir).

BJP minions in India scream that Pakistan “illegally” designated Gilgit-Baltistan – or the Northern Areas – as a federally administered area. There’s nothing illegal about it. I was reporting in Gilgit-Baltistan late last year, following the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Nobody was complaining about any “illegality”.

Pakistan officially said it “will exercise all possible options to counter [India’s] illegal steps” in Kashmir. That’s extremely diplomatic. Imran Khan does not want confrontation – even as he knows full well Modi is pandering to Hindutva fanatics, aiming to turn a Muslim-majority province into a Hindu-majority province. In the long run though, something inevitable is bound to emerge – fragmented, as a guerrilla war or as a united front.

All these areas are very well connected with trains and bus networks. Hong Kong Island is where Central area is located. It is the political and economic center of Hong Konghaving an expensive look but you can find a number of affordable guesthouses and hostels in this area. Victoria Peak is a tourist attraction in this area. It is a hill station with natural wonders. In Kawloon Peninsula you find the museums, the markets and Avenue of Stars. Modeled on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Avenue of Stars honors the celebrities of Hong Kong film industry. Kowloon is full of affordable and cheap guesthouses. The New Territories is that region of Hong Kong which has parks, wetlands and mountains. It includes the outlying islands. The Lantau Island has the famous Disneyland theme park and Tian Tan Buddha which is a giant bronze statue with gardens and restaurant of Po Lin Monastery. This is a place you cannot miss as a tourist. You also have Lamma Island with beautiful laid back beaches for relaxation.
