A month ago I pre-ordered the B ver., but probably I will buy it the A and C ver. too, (hopeful to find a good price with weverse gift incluse, the shipping to Italy Is freaking expensive) it's just that I don't have enough space in my room because this album is fucking HUGE and my shelf is full of BTS album 😅
I barely managed to fit Taehyung and Jungkook's photo folios inside + Hope on the street and Solar's Face album😂 I need to calm down and trying to save more money ik
Btw even if indigo and mono are my favorite album, rpwp is something new and fresh, totally in his style and the lyrics too are chef kiss 😘 I can't wait to spend my summer listening to it

From M0, M1 & S: About 3 "new" alters.
Hey, we hope you have a nice day =)
tl;dr
M, an alter in our system, was found to consist of two parts, M0 and M1, who weren’t communicating, causing memory confusion. After acknowledging them separately, they began interacting and are now in full contact. R, our physical protector, reappeared after a dangerous situation, proving he wasn't dormant but simply avoiding the modern world. S1, based on an abuser, caused trouble due to a misunderstanding, thinking we were enemies. After a conversation, he’s now a valued system member. These developments have brought more clarity and unity within our system.
We had been suspecting that M actually has an alter of his own that's not in direct contact with the rest of the system for a longer time now, between 6-12 months or so. Mainly because Mono sometimes gave paradoxical statements and had a lot of issues with his own memory as alter. He could also feel and notice memories about important stuff changing sometimes, especially during writing the memories down or while talking about them.
Like for example the memory of our hospital stay due to our appendix nearly bursting that we talked about in an earlier post. M0 has the memory while M1 doesn't. So when they were both acting as M, sometimes he could remember it while other times he couldn't. M0 and M1 both could observe their memory changing about it one time too while talking about it. Leading to both of them getting freaked out. This is our main memory indicator since they seem to be co-fronting a lot from how we understand it so far. It's a complex situation.
But this complex situation had an easy fix: We basically just had to acknowledge them both by giving each of them their own PluralKit proxy instead of them both using one. This led to M1 reaching the realization that he indeed was an alter of M0. He then reached out to M0 inside their own little headspace and they started talking with each other and are now in full contact with each other.
So, welcome to reality M1! We hope you'll be able to keep staying conscious of it and we also hope you'll enjoy the time with all of us!
This post doesn't end here though. There's still two more alters to talk about. R and S1. Let us start with R.
R is our physical protector but he wasn't interacting with us for a long time now. This made us believe that he may be dormant. Sorry for believing that, R.
He was triggered out due to a situation with our ex?-wife where she's been in danger. We don't want to go into more detail there, but that's how we realized he just isn't fronting normally anymore. We came to know back in the day that he hates the modern world like nothing else. Which is why probably he now abstains from interacting with it in any way, if he's not needed to protect us or those close to us that is.
Now onto the hardest part of this post. S1. Our misunderstood introject that we've seen as persecutor who is based on one of our abusers. He mainly was messing with us ever since we knew about being a system. I don't want to go into more detail there, but he really caused us a lot of trouble since we figured out that we're a system.
We found out the reason why though. It was back when we were still in a trauma bond with said abuser, we found out about being a system. We harshly broke off contact to our abuser shortly afterwards since we also remembered the trauma he caused us. During that, we also told our abuser what we think about him.
S1 sadly really took this to heart and thought, we would be his enemies, given how hostile we all acted towards our abuser that he's based on. So in an attempt to protect himself, he was messing with us and our lives. This led to us viewing him as an enemy of our system. Because we didn't understand. But thanks to very good people talking with me, S, about him while he unbeknowingly listened in, he started to realize why we were acting hostile towards him. Afterwards M0 and S1 had a long talk and now S1 has been accepted as a valuable member of the system. We were really missing those positive sides of our abuser.
In case people want to see him as evil persecutor. S1 is not a bad guy at all. He is mainly based on the positive sides that our abuser showed towards us. He doesn't show any intent to harm us or anyone else anymore. He just was trying to protect himself from possible harm because of a severe misunderstanding. He also was really alone all these years. And he's an important member of our system now.

In my area, Glitchmons aint treated the best but I hope to help break that stigma and show how kind and loving these mons can be!
Just remember that Glitchmon are supposed to STAY wild! The only time a Glitch mon should be removed is if it is causing damage to the enviroment (EG: Bad egg glitches making mons that should not be in that location - For example an Espurr being in Alola where it can cause damage to local wildlife!)

''Hash'' The 'ゥ $ A (F3)' Glitch that is similar to a Pineco with it's 'scales' being heavily glitched and a deep black colour with red lines stretching across it. Hash is a bit of a scaredy cat who loves to spam teleport (it's only move) but I love it alot! ''Dec'' The 'Decemark' Glitch pokemon, Dec is quite defensive of Hash and is basically It's brother! He may look like a Unown but hes quite feisty! ...Even if he only knows struggle- ''Neon'' The 'Monochromatic' Glitch, Despite being in the same Glitch family as the greyscale monos, This little litleo is covered in lots of colourfull stripes along with a colurfull personality! ''Princess'' The '♀ .' Glitch, She looks alot like a Maganium but more red..when she isn't surrounded by smoke that is! Princes is my main fighter if nasty teams try to hurt the pokemon I pick up to foster or if anyone tries to steal my team She's very bulky and is quite the stubborn gal!
I actually caught Quin myself since i thought he was just a shiny Starmie, I didn't have the heart to give him up and ended up joining GEFF so i could still care for him and help other glitch pokemon!
Hash, Neon and Princess all came from eggs from other trainers around the world! I am greatfull to two of those trainers for trying to help give their pokemon good lives before I picked them up! if you are the guy who abandoned hash at the pokecenter in Kanto I will personally find you!
ahem- Dec and Berry came from accidental capture cases, I still give their OG trainers updates on how they are! I love my team deeply and they teach me more every single day!

Summary: Vampires and wolves are not the only supernatural creatures to walk the earth, and they are certainly not the only ones in Forks, Washington when Charlotte Annabeth Swan, “Anna”, moves in with her uncle after the unfortunate demise of her parents.
Some may misidentify her as a witch, but that’s fine, she would rather them think that anyway. But the Volturi know the truth, and they are closing in on her.
A/N: Sorry this took forever. Work got busy and classes started up again, but I’m back! The fall vibes b ring the Twilight vibes.

As suspected, Bella was not handling the fact Jacob wasn’t answering her calls well. Billy had told her Jacob came down with mono, but she didn’t care. She wanted to see him, come hell or high water.
“Have you heard from him?” she asked me one morning on the drive to school, biting her lip. A tell-tale sign of her anxiety. Her grip tightened on the steering wheel as she glanced at me.
“No, I haven’t,” I say, focusing on the road, hoping if she can’t see my eyes, she can’t tell I’m lying.
“I think I should just go,” she mutters, slumping down in her seat.  
“Mono is highly contagious, Bella.”  
“Not that contagious,” she mutters.
I should have known nothing would change her mind. When Bella Swan has her mind set on something, there’s not much one can do to stop her. It will come to a head eventually.
Eventually came that Saturday morning, as Charlie and Harry were about to head out to go fishing, and I was going to go over to Emily’s.
“Wait!” I yelled at the men walking through the living room, closing the cooler on the table.  
“Here’s lunch,” I say lugging it over to them.
“Thanks, Anna,” Charlie smiles at me, “I appreciate it.”
“Thank you,” Harry follows, and I smile back at them.  
“Have a good time alright?”
Charlie begins to speak but is struck silent by Bella’s voice, his shoulders deflate at the name she speaks sadly into the speaker.
“Jacob?” she says with a frown, “Call me.” Bella slams the phone and turns as Charlie straightens to cover up his concern.
“You know, I don’t have to go today,” he says.  
“Yes, you do,” deadpans Harry, glancing at me with a bit of disdain.
“Yeah, you do. Go. What are you talking about?” she says crossing her arms, pulling herself tight, “Just be careful.”
“Always am,” Charlie replies, a reluctant expression on his face.  
“Those bears won’t get the drop on me, Bella. My kung fu is strong.”  
I can’t help but laugh at Harry, who smiles and gives me a knowing look. With a wink, they both finally walk out the door.  
Bears. That’s what the town had come up with for the missing hikers. It was a bit funny, that the wolves were being mistaken for bears, but I hated how they somehow were taking the blame for a problem they were working so hard to solve. I could tell it bothered them too, no matter how hard Sam and Emily worked to take their minds off of it.  
Once they leave, it’s just us. The silence weighs heavily between them as Bella sulks on the couch.  
“You know, I don’t have to go. I can stay,” I offer half-heartedly.
“No, I know he’s been busy. You should go.”  She waves me off with a sigh, falling over to the side to lay on the couch.
She at least has the energy to be dramatic, that’s a good sign.
She was right though; Paul had been busy. The vampire was always one step ahead of them, and it was all hands-on deck most days.
“Are you sure Bells?” I hesitate to grab my bag by the door, waiting for her answer.
“Yeah, I have homework anyway.”
With a nod, I tell her goodbye and grab my stuff before heading out.
It only takes Bella fifteen minutes before she gets too impatient, she jumps in her truck and makes her way in the same direction.

I jump off the couch, my book slipping from my hands as I yelp in surprise at the noise coming from Emily’s porch.
It’s Jacob, slamming the door to Emily’s house so hard it makes Sam take a step back before opening it for the rest of them. Paul and Jacob look particularly pissed off as they all file in, finding seats around the table. Paul doesn’t even stay or speak. He just gives me a chaste kiss on the head before walking out the back.
“Hey!” I scold Jacob, “Be respectful.”  
Jacob has the decency to look up sheepishly at Emily, “I’m sorry.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time Jake. It’s why the door stays open most of the time,” she smirks, handing him a glass of water.
“What’s wrong?” I ask, walking up to the table, and leaning on the back of Jake’s chair.  
“Bella came over,” Jacob groans.
“Oh shit,” I gasp.
“Yeah, she knows I’m not sick, and she thinks Sam “got to me.” Jacob rolls his eyes as he drops his air quotes, but I can hear the hurt in his voice.
“Great,” I groan, “I cannot wait for her to accuse you all of being in a gang yet again.”  I rub my temples to soothe the oncoming headache I am getting.
“A gang?” Sam perks up with curiosity, “Who thinks we are in a gang?”
I look down at Jake.  
“That’s all you dude,” I pat him on the shoulders twice.
“Yeah, thanks Anna,” he mocks as Sam raises an eyebrow at him. Embry is trying his best not to make eye contact with Sam and Jacob, and I can’t help but laugh.
“You’re welcome!” I exclaim, turning to go check on Paul. Before I can take a step, Jacob moves to grab my hand to stop me.  
“Wait! I might have said something about the Cullen’s to her.” Jake admits.
“Jake” I groan, pressing the heel of my palms into my eyes
“I’m sorry! I just saw her and got so mad.”
“Now she’s definitely going to grill me about how you know and what I know.”
“I’m sorry,” he pouts.
I sigh, “It’s fine. I’m going to check on Paul. What’s the matter with him?”
“Oh, he just really does not like Bella.”
“Sounds about right,” I say exasperatedly.  
Walking outside, Paul is taking deep breaths. I make sure to make noise while walking up to announce my presence before wrapping my arms around him and resting my head on his back.
“Hey,” I whisper, “It’s okay.”  
He nods, shoulders losing a bit of their tension.
“She just continually makes things harder. For you, for Jake…” he trails off, seething.
“I didn’t know you two were close now,” I tease, moving to face him.
Paul shoots me a look.  
“Kidding, I know, pack bond and all” I run my hands through his hair, and he closes his eyes, leaning into the touch.
“It’s not really her fault,” I add quietly.
“Let’s agree to disagree,” he grumbled.
“Paul…”
“Anna, I love you, and I know she is your family, but she has put you through so much. It will take a while for me to get over it. It’s hard when she doesn’t even know or refused to acknowledge those few months.”
“Well, I doubt things will get easier soon, I think Jacob would rather go all lone wolf rather than not keep Bella around.”
“Great,” he exhales, pulling me close to him and resting his chin on my head.
“It’ll be okay.”
He sighs and kisses my head, “Just as long as you’re okay.”  
“I’m okay, promise. I’ll always be okay.”
He presses his lips into mine in a needy kiss.
“I hope so,” he whispers.

“Dad!”
Bella bursts through the door, yelling into the kitchen where Harry is standing next to him. I jump from the sudden intrusion.
“Dad, I saw them!” She yells as she steps next to me.  
“What’s the matter,” Charlie asks.  
“In the woods. They’re not bears!” She gasps out, and my entire body freezes. Oh god, no. Harry’s eyes fly to me, and with a slight shake of his head I steel my reaction.
“What do you mean in the woods? Bella, what the hell are you doing out in the woods?!” Charlie groans.
Bella doesn’t stop, “They’re wolves, I mean, they’re like HUGE wolves.”
“Are you sure about that Bella?” Harry interjects.
“Yeah, I just saw them. They were after… something.” She falters, and it feels like ice has replaced the blood in my veins.
She saw a vampire.
“Wolves? You saw ‘em?” Charlie repeats.
Bella nods and my heart drops.
“Alright, well,” Charlie pauses, looking up at us, “Harry. Feel like going hunting? Get some of your guys together?”
“Sure, yeah, I’ll just…” Harry walks out with his phone in his hand, and I am quick to follow.
I stare wide-eyed at Harry in the hallway, my breath ragged and my eyes are wide.  
“Harry…” I whisper.  
“I know. All of them are out right now, I can’t call them.”
“Fuck,” I run my hands through my hair, pushing it out of my face before it dawns on me. How far can my telepathy go?
“Okay,” I take a deep breath and meet Harry’s eyes, “I can maybe do something. Give them a warning.” He nods, not asking any more questions. He knows he shouldn’t push.
“Work your magic kid, I’m going to call the elders. Make sure whoever is coming knows the deal.”
“Thank you, Harry,” I whisper, my body shaking with panic.  
Harry puts his hand on my shoulder, “They’ll be okay. I promise.”
I nod, not trusting my voice before he starts making calls. I slip out the back door, making my way towards the forest.  
I hope to God this works. It has got to work. I step through the tree line, making sure I can’t be seen from the house.
Closing my eyes, I focus on the hum of magic surrounding me. It takes a moment, but when I open my eyes, I am met with a sea of gold. Magic threads of energy connect everything. Here in the forest, it’s almost overwhelming.
There’s always one that’s a little bigger and brighter than the rest though, the one connecting me to Paul. I reach out to touch it, and with it, I can feel a thrum of love. I focus, trying to feel him.
It works, and I know he’s alerted to what I’m doing as confusion floods through me, but it’s not mine. This is the farthest I’ve pushed our connection, and it’s also the farthest we’ve been apart while I try. Pain stabs through my brain, and the confusion turns into concern. Despite the pain, the connection to him helps me send him a message despite the distance, and by extension, the whole pack.  
There’s a police hunt happening, and they are looking for wolves. Giant wolves. You need to get out of the forest. Please, stay safe boys.
A multitude of thoughts bombards me at once, the force of it making my knees buckle. The pack bond is something I might not ever get used to. Words mixed with memories and emotions all swirling around at once. My head feels like it’s exploding. I can’t tell the voices apart with all the noise in my head.
They are looking for wolves now?
Now there’s going to be tons of humans in the woods, in her way.
Bella. That’s Paul, growling. Even in my thoughts, I can tell it was him.
I get hit with a memory, Bella standing in the woods alone, with a vampire about to kill her. What was she thinking being out there only?
I watch from what I think is Jacob’s perspective, I can feel the longing and the heartbreak. Bella’s curious gaze stares back, a hint of recognition in her eyes.
She’s so close to finding out.
I remember what happened in the kitchen, effectively replaying the scene for them, and they seem to settle at Harry’s reassurance.
I’m going to Emily’s. I say to Paul, even if they all can hear me.
No, stay home.
Not a chance in hell.
I hear Paul’s wolf form growl. In the months we have been together, he still had reservations about me being around him when shifted. It was a boundary I tried not to push too much, but it looks like that it might have to fall soon.
Sorry, love.
I close the connection and the gold surrounding me cuts off like a light. I catch myself falling completely with my hands, cutting them on the rocks on the ground.
It takes a minute before I can move, my eyes won’t stay open, and the light too painful to my head.
When I’m able to stand, I notice the blood steadily dripping down my face from my nose.
That’s new, I think. I try to clean it up as best as I can before texting Charlie, telling him Jessica was having a girl emergency, before getting in my Jeep to drive to the Reservation. On the way, my nose starts to bleed again. I wipe it away, feeling my body get heavier and heavier.
Fuck.
I barely remember what happens after I get to Emily’s house. I know I stumbled through the door and panicked as I told Emily that the boys were in danger. But then, it goes black. My body just… gives out.

It’s the sound of arguing that wakes me up. I can’t tell who is talking or what they are saying, but it hurts. It’s too loud. A small whimper escapes my lips as I try to move, turning away from the noise.
“Hey, hey, hey, hey,” Paul whispers, “it’s okay.” He shushes the voices in the background, his hand running through my hair. “Can you hear me, Anna?”
I nod weakly, squeezing my eyes to block out any light.
“S’hurts,” I mumble.
Paul lets out a relieved sigh, “I know, Emily is bringing you some medicine.” He kisses my head and slowly helps me up into a seated position. I finally open my eyes, closing them again after feeling the stares of all of the boys, crowding around the bed I’m laying on.
“I’m glad you guys are safe,” I say, rubbing my eyes.
Sam lets out a dry chuckle, “You shouldn’t be worried about us, we are glad you’re okay.”
I shrug, “I don’t even know what happened.”
“You gave me a heart attack, that’s what happened,” Emily declares, entering the room with a glass of water and aspirin in her hands. “You walked in, blood covering your face, and passed out. You hit your head when you fell.” She frowns. “Sue Clearwater came over and looked you over. She doesn’t think you’ll have a concussion, just some pain.”
“Ah,” I nod, “That’s why the lights feel particularly stabby.” Paul takes the water from her and helps me hold it despite the glare I’m giving him. With the medicine down, I lean back into the bed.
“I’m sorry for scaring you, Em,” I say.
“What about us?” Jared speaks up, “You scared us too.”
“I’m sorry, to all of you. But you guys needed the warning. I didn’t want anyone getting hurt.”
“Thank you, Anna,” Sam interjects, “You just rest for now.” He looks around at everyone, “Come on, let’s give her some space.”
With a groan, they all say their goodbyes, as they walk out the door, Jared peaks his head back in.
“Seriously, that was terrifying. Please don’t do that again. We all love you and hate to see you hurt Feel better Anna,” he says before rushing off.
And then there were two…
“You’ve been quiet,” I whisper. Paul had been sitting in a chair next to the bed, not taking his eyes off me. Worry surrounded him. I could tell.
“Yeah,” he sighs, “I’m just… I think I’m too worried to really explain it.”
“You’re not mad at me?”
He smiles sadly at me, then moves to sit on the bed wrapping his arms around me.
“No, I’m not. I know it won’t do much. I was worried, then absolutely terrified. Now, I’m just relieved.”
“I couldn’t let you guys get ambushed.”
He nods and kisses my head, “I know, we can talk about it later. Right now, I think I just need to be with you and hear your heartbeat. Know that you are okay.”
Looking up at him, I can see the fear still in his eyes. This was a new side of Paul. I was expecting a protective Paul or even an angry Paul, but right now he really is just scared. It breaks my heart.
“Yeah baby, that sounds like a plan.” I nod and lean into him. The silence surrounds us like a warm blanket, and Paul’s arms around me tighten, like keeping me close won’t let me slip away.
I try not to let it show, but I hold him just as tightly.

An Underground Overview: Innistrad and multicolor options

What kinds of things await us in the multicolor sphere? Well, here’s the thing: there’s a weird but normal breakdown. Ravnica might have had multicolor guilds, but Innistrad’s implication with the mix-and-match for more awesome gameplay leads to interesting combos. Still, here’s a ten-guild overview:
W/U: Spirit tribal, graveyard shenanigans, casting from the graveyard, some token aggro.
U/B: Zombie tribal, sacrifice, graveyard as a resource, some self-mill.
B/R: Vampire tribal, aggro and combat tricks, burn and life loss, discarding/madness.
R/G: Werewolf tribal, very aggressive tramplers, spell and resource management, some combat tricks.
G/W: Human tribal, weenies, +1/+1 counter synergy, go-wide, anti-big-creature tech, lifegain kidna, tokens.
W/B: Human sacrifice, general sacrifice, death trigger combos, one big thing and a lotta small things, go-wide.
B/G: Creatures in the graveyard, graveyard as resource, small numbers of massive creatures, delirium, deathtouch.
G/U: Flashback tech, combat control, copying and self-mill, amalgams of midrange builds, graveyard and library in synergy.
U/R: Instants and sorcery spells all-in, very burn aggro, pinging and flying, using flashback and searching for spells.
R/W: Hard human aggro, anti-monster feel, soldiers and cathars, lots of interesting combat tricks, running over the competition.
Is there more? Probably, but these are again general overviews, quick and dirty, that I’ve learned from my time drafting. I’ve only drafted OG Innistrad once, but I remember the Avacyn Restored prerelease and I’ve also drafted plenty of SOI, EMN, and tons of Midnight Hunt. With that in mind, multicolor’s got pretty explicit over the years, but for this contest, we have a couple options, and here are some printed examples.
A card like The Gitrog Monster! That’s the cut-and-dry multicolor big lad of the day. He’s got two pips and they fit the bill.
A card like Feeling of Dread makes sense. You can put it in a mono-white deck, sure, or you could put it in a blue deck that can discard it. But, its home is in a W/U deck pretty reasonably because hey, that’s its multicolor identity.
There’s also something like Town Gossipmonger // Incited Rabble that is an acceptable type. Its front face is white, but its back face is solidly red. And what does this mean for an archetype? Well, it couldn’t go in a mono-white Commander deck, but in general, it’s a tool that white can use to get a creature that sometimes goes against a deck’s interest. A R/W deck will use it the best, but any white deck can use it.
Interestingly, is Daybreak Ranger // Nightfall Predator. This card is green on both faces but uses a red activated ability on its transformed side, and therefore would be acceptable for this contest.
And of course, lands with activated abilities like Gavony Township are more than acceptable for their multicolor leaning. Two colors, and off we go.
Is this a long way of saying “Make a card with a two-color color identity set on Innistrad?” Yes. But I do hope that these examples show you what kind of stuff you have to work with and what some good examples are for unique aspects of multicolor identity.

BRIAN MAY, 1984 & THE LEFT HANDED MARRIAGE
JOHN S. STUART AND ANDY DAVIS DIG DEEP TO UNCOVER THE PREVIOUSLY UNDOCUMENTED AUDIO LEGACY OF ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST CHERISHED BANDS.
This month the beginning and end of Queen come together like the cosy ending of a contrived Hollywood drama. While fans wait with bated breath for the band’s final album, “Made In Heaven" — completed by Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor with the aid of Freddie Mercury’s last demos — author Mark Hodkinson launches a new book in which, in greater detail than has ever been attempted before, delves into the pre-fame histories of Queen’s musical antecedents.
With previously unpublished photographs of Roger Taylor's the Reaction, John Deacon’s the Opposítion and even more impressively, Freddie Mercury’s Sour Milk Sea, ‘Queen The Early Years’ is a treat fans have waited too long to read. Coincidentally, six months ago, we commissioned Queen historian, John S. Stuart, to research the definitive article on the band’s pre-fame recordings, and as you’ll see, the results complement Hodkinson’s broader picture with hitherto undocumented details of Queen's 60s recordings.
We've touched on Larry Lurex and Smile before, of course, but the vinyl output of those two acts barely scratches the surface, so to speak: literally hours and hours of privately- recorded material of Freddie, Brian, John and Roger survive to this day — as evidenced by the recent discovery of the Reaction’s ‘In The Midnight Hour’ acetate ( see RC 191). So, while the rest of the world comes to terms with the fact that Queen’s recording career is effectively at an end, we unravel the untold history of four individuals' first tentative steps in front of the microphone, beginning with the 1960′s exploits of Brian May. Next month, we’ll embrace Smile, and John, Roger and Freddie's hidden amateur recordings; but first, 1984 and the Left Handed Marriage.
1984
Around late August, or early September 1963, as the Beatles celebrated the birth of Beatlemania with sessions for their “With The Beatles” LP at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in North London, another rock legend was developing just around the geographical corner. In a semi-detached house in Feltham, Middlesex, electronics engineer Harold May began an 18-month task, helping his sixteen-year-...[ ]

[ ]...old son, Brian, to construct the world's most famous home-made guitar, the ‘Red Special'. In the mean time, Brian would have to be con­tent with thrashing away at the small Spanish acoustic his parents had bought him for his seventh birthday. (Brian evidently mislaid this childhood guitar shortly afterwards; and didn't see it again until 1991, when at a ‘reunion’ of former members of 1984, his schoolfriend and first musical collaborator, Dave Dilloway, returned it to him. Brian was so thrilled, that he featured the guitar in the video for Queen’s “Headlong" single).
By 1964, Brian and Dave Dilloway were already recording amateur duets together, and by linking up their two reel-to-reel tape docks, they discovered that they could lay down guitars on one machine, and perhaps bass, percussion and sometimes vocals on the other. Although the technique was crude, and despite the occasional disaster, the effect was often surprisingly good. One of the earliest tapes from these primitive recording sessions survives to this day, and features Brian belting out Bo Diddley’s eponymous R&B standard, "Bo Diddley".
“This is a mono quarter-inch, reel-to-reel I found buried among various other oddments from the era”,  recalls Dave Dilloway. “It certanly dates from before the formation of 1984. It was recorded in Brian’s back room in Feltham, with Brian on lead vocals and guitar, and myself on bass and drums. The track is basic, but Brian’s vocals are clear and recognisable. The guitar playing is fairly basic as well, but competent, without any real solos as such”.
“ This is the only tape in my collection of those double-track recordings. I’m unsure whether Brian himself has retained the tapes we made at the time, but I believe he usually ended up with the finished versions, so he may still heve them somewhere.”
 The duo also recorded four-track instru­mental cover versions of several Shadows tunes — “Apache”, “FBI”, "Wonderful Land” and "The Rise  And Fall Of Fingel Blunt” — as well as “Rambunkshush”, which they learned from the Shadows’ American counterparts, The Ventures.  Also on the same tape is their reading of Chet Atkins' “Windy And Warm".
 Yet another reel reveals an attempt at Cliff Richard’s "Bachelor Boy", on which Brian, once again, takes the lead vocal. Dave Dilloway's theory is probably correctt; May is known to have a meticulously catalogued personal collection of Queen (and pre-Queen) recordings and memorabilia, which almost certanlly contains unfathomable reels of similar early material.

In the autumn of 1964, Brian and Dave formed a rapidly-evolving band, through which many schoolmates passed, but which eventually settled with a line-up of bassist John 'Jag' Garnham, drummer Richard Thompson, and harmonica-playing vocalist Tim Staffell. After rejecting names such as the Mind Boggles and Bob Chappy & the Beetles, the quintet named themselves after George Orwell’s futuristic novel ‘1984’. Their look was far from sci-fi, however, and they happily adopted the classic, clean-cut beat- group look of the day: jackets, or in Brian's case a cardigan, and narrow trousers; and beat boots. Tim Staffell even acquired that year’s fashion accessory, a pork-pie hat.
The band rehearsed regularly at Chase Bridge Primary School Hall in Twickenham (located next to the rugby ground), and on the 28th October 1964, gave their first public performance at the nearby St. Mary’s Church Hall. It is believed that either one of the rehearsals, or the gig itself, was recorded, but unfortunately, no tape of this debut, perform­ance has survived the years. Although 1984 recorded almost all of their live concerts for their own critical appraisal, to save on the expense of new tape they often wiped over old reels once they’d listened to them. Nevertheless, evidence of Brian May playing live does survive from this period, and the earliest example dates from an unknown gig (Shepperton Rowing Club is the favoured consensus), recorded in late 1965. This wasn’t a 1984 performance, but rather an ad-hoc trio comprising Brian May on bass and vocals, Pete ‘Woolly’ Hammerton (a school friend of Brian’s) on guitar and vocals, and 1984's Richard Thompson on drums. The tape reveals the trio turning in versions of Martha & the Vandellas’ “Dancing In The Street", the Beatles' “Eight Days A Week”, “I’m Taking Her Home” — a song by the group Woolly later joined, the Others — and a brave attempt at the Who’s "My Generation".
The Others comprised older boys from Hampton School, who in October 1964 had issued a single of their abrasive reading of Bo Diddley’s “Oh Yeah", backed by “I’m Taking Her Home", on Fontana (TF 501). “That was good!" claims singer, Tim Staffell. “I’ve still got that record buried somewhere deep in my mind — I remember the singer, Paul Stewart's voice and the quality of the guitar sound. The Others were a pretty significant influence. Maybe not in terms of the music, more in the sense that they were already doing it, which proved it was possible."
As evidenced by the photograph included in this feature, the Others clearly had attitude, something which 1984, or Tim Staffell at least, could only aspire to “If I had tried to push 1984 in any direction," reveals Tim, “then that would have been it. Without hearing any of these tapes of our band — and I didn't even know they existed! — l’d say we probably sounded a lot safer than the Others. Mind you, they were different to us. Their guitar style was very much inspired by American R&B, whereas Brian’s never was. Brian was a unique guitar player: he was able to extemporise a much more original way than most guitar players could. I hope he’ll forgive me for saying so, but I never perceived him as having the dangerous image which was necessary at the time — the cardigan says it all!.
LIGHTWEIGHT
“In retrospect, 1984 was lightweight, a bit fluffy”  concedes Tim. “It was impossible not to be naively ambitious — that was part and parcel of it — and the primary motivation to do it was what we saw in the media as the end results of success. But I guess we were realistic about it — we were at school, after all. Also there was a good deal of pressure in the 60s from our parents, and the conser­vative generation, to conform."
Although a version of “I’m Taking Her Home” by 1984 was captured live on the Shepperton tape, and Brian occasionally guested with the Others on stage, it's worth stating once and for all that — despite the persistent rumours — he definitely doesn’t feature on "Oh Yeah".  In fact, Pete ‘Woolly' Hammerton doesn't even play on the record — he only joined the band formally later on.
In the autumn of 1965, leaving Hampton Grammar with no fewer than four 'A' Levels and ten ‘O’ levels, Brian enrolled at Imperial College in Kensington, London, to read physics and infra-red astronomy. Before breaking up for the Christmas holidays that year, he played the first in a series of gigs with 1984 at the college, a tradition he continued later with Smile, and in their formative days with Queen. Although the exact date of the event has long since been forgotten, a very poor- quality tape still exists of 1984‘s college debut. The set was a typical one, comprising the group’s broad blend of pop, R&B and soul covers, and included the following songs: “Cool Jerk" (originally by the Capitols), ‘Respect" (Otis Redding), "My Girl" (the Temptations), “Shake" (Sam Cooke), “Stepping Stone" (the Monkees), “You Keep Me Hanging On" (the Supremes), “Whatcha Gonna Do Ahout it" ( Small Faces), “Substitute” (the Who), “How Can It Be” (the B-side of the Birds’ final single, “No Good Without You Baby”), “Danc­ing In The Street", “Dream" (Everly Brothers) and the Small Faces’ "Sha La La La Lee".
“Our repertoire was a little too eclectic to have developed into any particular style” reckons Tim Staffell. “But the Small Faces were quite influential. When we were at school, the songs were dredged from all sorts of areas. I’d always liked rhythm’n’blues. Brian’s input would have been Beatles-orientated, Dave’s as well. Richard Thompson would have been more into R&B, and Jag didn't really have an agenda as far as songs were concerned. Because of the nature of the material we covered, our approach to the gigs was almost schoollboy cabaret. 1984 was not a dangerous, moody rock band! Which may have something to do with the way Queen evolved."
1984 oponed 1966 with a couple of gigs at the Thames Rowing CIub in Putney; and once again, a tape recorder was set up to document the group’s progress. Two reels from January that year exist: the first is dated the 15th, and features “Im A Loser” (the Beatles), “I Wish You Would" ( the Yardbirds), “I Feel Fine" (the Beatles), “Little Egypt" (the Coasters), "Lucille” (Little Richard), “Too Much Monkey Business" (Chuck Berry), "I Got My Mojo Working” (Muddy Waters), "WalkingThe Dog” ( Rufus Thomas) and “Heart Full Of Soul" (the Yardbirds).
The second, dated two weeks later (29th January), demonstrates the great variety and confidence of a band which consistently renewed its repertoire. The show began with Jimmy Reed’s  “Bright Lights, Big City", moving into the Cookies' “Chains" (popularised by the Beatles), “Walking The Dog", “Lucille", “Our Little Rendezvous" (Chuck Berry), “Jack O’ Diamonds" (Blind Lemon... (cont) Jefferson, popularised by Lonnie Donegan), “I’ve Got My Mojo Working”, “Little Egypt" and Bo Diddley’s “I’m A Man”. The band’s finale was a versión of Sonny Boy Williamson’s "Bye Bye Bird".
For an amateur band with little real pretension towards stardom, or even a serious attempt at securing a recording contract, a staggering amount of live 1984 material has been preserved on tape. Dave Dilloway, for instance, is the guardian of a seven-inch reel-to-reel, which he says reveals either a very long performance or a compilation of various unknown dates.
Either way, the tape is divided into five distinct sections, which might make tedious reading, but is an invaluable reference: 1) “Route 66", (unknown instrumental), “I’m Taking Her Home", “Too Much Monkey Business’, “Yesterday" (featuring Brian May on lead vocals), “Walking The Dog", and “ Lucille"; 2) “Little Rendezvous", "Keep On Running”, “I Feel Fine”, “Walking The Dog”, “Jack O’ Diamonds", “High Heeled Sneakers", “I Want To Hold Your Hand", “I Got My Mojo Working*, and “I Should Have Known Better”; 3) “Little Rendezvous", “Jump Back Baby Jump Back", “I Feel Fine”, “Bye Bye Bird", “Little Egypt", “Crazy House". “Lucille”, “Oh Yeah”, “Heatwave”, “Too Much Monkey Business", “I Should Have Known Better", and “I Got My Mojo Working"; 4) “My Generation", “Little Egypt", “Dancing In The Street", “Whatcha Gonna Do About It", “I’m A Man", “Heatwave", “Lucille", and “Bye Bye Bird"; and 5) “Heart Full Of Soul", “Too Much Monkey Business”, “Something’s Got A Hold On Me", “Keep On Running", “My Generation", "Tired Of Waiting", “Bright Lights. Big City" and “Happy Hendrick’s Polka".
“These are all domestic quality, single microphone recordings of early-era 1984", reveals Dave Dilloway. “It's mostly bluesy material, with some soul and Beatles songs. While the quality is basic, the sound is intelligible, although there isn’t a large amount of identifiable Brian guitarwork. That came later in the band's history, when we included covers of Crearn and Hendrix. Brian's solo vocals on 'Yesterday' (on the first segment) are quite clear, however."
For much of 1966, the band carried on in a similar vein — Brian's and the others' college work permitting, of course. For Brian May and his unsigned, Twickenham-based covers band, the highlight of the following year, 1967, was undoubtedly the gig he secured via through his contacts at the college — supporting Jimi Hendrix at Imperial. The date was 13th May, the day after the release of Hendrix's debut, “Are You Experienced". Brian May idolised Hendrix to such an extent that he'd been nicknamed “Brimi" — a combination of the two guitarists' names—so although 1984 had seen him perform before, it goes without saying they were thrilled when backstage, they actually bumped into the ascending star as they filed past his dressing-room. It’s a familar story, but it's one worth repeating: Jimi enquired memorably, “Which way’s the stage, man?*.
BLOSSOMED
1984's act had certainly blossomed by this point. Their attire was now obligatory Swinging London — or Swinging Middlesex — fare: frilly shirts, Regency jackets, striped hipsters secured with a white belt, and hairtyles extending inexorably over the ears, and indeed the eyes. “Somewhere along the line, there was an external influence there", says Tim Staffell. “There was someone calling the shots. I don’t think all that was self-motivated. It’s something I’ve never been comfortable with, which explains why I split away from it early on — certainly from Smile onwards — because it was going that way; as indeed it ended up with Queen. It's fair enough, but that sort of flamboyance is just not me. I look fairly uncomfortable in the picture of the band from that period. My idea of a rock musician is one with hair down his back, a dirty pair of Levi's on, looking at the floor, thoroughly unconcerned with the visual and external trappings, playing the most extraordinary virtuoso guitar. That was my attitude."
Back in February 1967, Brian’s local paper, the ‘Middlesex Chronicle’ caught up with the band, and captured Tim Staffell in an equally decisive mood; although here, he was more enthusiastic about the latest trend. "Psychodelic music is certainly here to stay”~he claimed. "It makes more of music than mere sound, it makes it a whole and complete art form." Dave Dilloway, who also handled the group's light show, added: “We use everything in our act, including things like shaving foam, and plastic bricks we throw around”.
The ‘Chronicle’ was obviously impressed, and its reporter had this to say about a per­formance by what it called “one of the most foward-looking groups today". “Standards, like ‘Heatwave' receive a very original treatment, mostly due to the sounds that Brian coaxes out of his guitar. Jazz chords and electronic sounds add feeling and nuance to numbers that are often churned out wholesale. Using two bass drums for a fuller sound, Richard's drumming, combined with the full bass riffs of Dave and the steady (rhythm guitar) work of John, provides a firm basis for experiments in sound — an opportunity which is not wasted."
“To be quite honest with you, there’s more substance in the literary content there, than in the musical," laughs Tim Staffell. "If some­one genuinely thought that, then I'm surprised! Brian might have used a fuzz-box. but generally, it was au naturel. I remember in the Smile days, somebody wrote about ‘humming chords of wonder’, referring to my bass playing. The reality of it was that sometimes I did try and play chords on the bass guitar, which might have come out as a deep-throated roar, but actually sounded like a load of crap!"
“We did use to tickle about with a few lights, suggests Dave Dilloway, “but being a local band, money was tight and there wasn’t a fortune to spend on the band." As to 1984's psychodelic sound, Dave adds: “Brian did use a bit of fuzz, yes, and Pink Floyd influences and a bit of screaming guitar. He’d actually built a fuzz box into his guitar, which was fairly unique for the day, but typical Brian. If you look carefully at recent pictures of his “Red Special” you can see the fuzz switch taped over."
In September 1967, no doubt boosted by their praise — sincere or not — in the local press, the continuing evidence of their per­formance tapes and their recent Hendrix support slot, 1984 entered the local beats of a battle-of-the-bands competition at the Top...[ ]

...[ ] Rank Club in Croydon, just south of London. Effectively a promotion for Scotch tape, en­trance to the contest could only be secured via a demo recorded on a Scotch reel. 1984’s effort duly arrived in the form of a two-track master, featuring covers of Marvin Gaye's “Ain’t That Peculiar?" and the Everly Brothers’ “Crying ln The Rain" (on stage, both tracks were usually enhanced by characteristic Brian May guitar solos, but conservatism prevailed, and they were absent in this instance). A copy of this recording still survives, carefully guarded by the custodian of the 1984 archive. “This tape is a quarter-inch, mono reel-to-reel," re­calIs Dave Dilloway. “Tim took lead vocals on 'Ain't That Peculiar?’, and Tim and Brian duetted on ’Crying ln The Rain’. Brian's vocal style and tone can be clearly discerned, if one knows his voice. The songs were recorded in single takes, using a single microphone fed directly to the recorder. There was no mix facility so it has a ‘live' feel, a very good clean sound”. 
The mix was achieved using the old fashioned technique of microphone position and relative volume levels of the amplified Instruments. “As far as I am aware, only the one (master) copy of this tape exists.”
As has been well-documented, after two sets at the competition (one of which saw Brian, Dave, John Garnham and drummer Richard Thompson acting as the back-up band for a singer called Lisa Perez), 1984 won the contest, and walked away with a reel of blank tape (Scotch, of course) and an album each on the CBS label. (Tim took the top prize, Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sounds Of Silence", Brian had to make do with a Barbra Streisand LP, and Dave Dilloway became the proud owner of an album by Irish bandleader Tommy Makem!). More importantly, their demo tape was forwarded to the CBS A&R department for the national showdown, although, clearly, they didn’t win.
True to form, 1984's performance that evening was committed to tape — for an unpublished review by ‘Melody’ Maker, no less — but was probably erased shortly afterwards. The twenty-minute set consisted of the Everlys’ "So Sad", Hendrix’s “Stone Free”, Buddy Knox’s “She’s Gone" and Eddie Floyd's “Knock On Wood". After the gig, the band were invited by a visiting promotor to participate in the all-night gala event which has since gone down as one of the key gigs of the London underground scene: Christmas On Earth Continued, at London's Olympia Theatre, on December 23rd 1967. 1984 was the lowest pro­file act at this decidedly high-profile event, and after Jimi Hendrix, Traffic, Pink Floyd, the Herd, and Tyrannosaurus Rex had all taken to the stage, they only got to perform their humble set of covers at 5 o’clock in the morning. When Brian finally plugged in his ‘Red Special’, 1984 played a thirty-minute set to a very small, and less than enthusiastic, audience.

Also from 1967, and of far more interest, is 1984′s professionally-recorded Thames Television demo tape. During his first-year of study at Twickenham Technical College, Dave Dilloway had made friends with a number of technicians, or trainee technicians, at the Teddington-based ITV company which served the London area. The station had recently invested in new recording equipment, and rather than hire professional musicians at the usual union rate, in a set up similar to the first Queen sessions at the De Lane Lea studios, 1984 were let loose in the studio to record at their leisure. Dave Dilloway's carefully preserved tape still plays perfectly, and includes the following songs: "Hold On I’m Corning", “Knock On Wood“, “NSU", *How Can It Be”, two early run-throughs of the original May/ Staffell composition “Step On Me” (which eventually became the B- side to Smile's “Earth"), “Purple Haze", “Our Love Is Driftin* ”, and medleys of “Remember”/”Sweet Wine" and “Get Out My Life Woman”/ ”Satisfaction". The session ended with a run-through of "My Girl”.
AMALGAM
"What an extraordinary amalgam!" declares Tim Staffell today. “There’s Tamla, Cream, Hendrix, Lee Dorsey . . ‘Our Love Is Driftin' we’d have heard by Paul Butterfield. I’d forgotten there was such a large soul component in 1984!".
Dave Dilloway has the technical details: “This tape is the most re­cent, best and most representative of 1984 that I'm aware of. It is mono, but since it was made on good quality TV studio equipment and was carried out along the lines of a proper studio recording, with separately-mixed microphones for each source, it is remarkably good quality for its age. The material, except for ‘Step On Me', is aII cover versions, but as it dates from the late 1984 era, Brian’s playing is more prominent and effective, with his own style starting to show through. All the performances are competent — particularly Tim’s vocals and Brian's guitar; although the mix is a little heavy on John's rhythm guitar for some reason, probably the ‘ear’ of the recording engineer at the time. All tracks were laid down in one take, i.e., no overdubbing at all, so the sound is predominantly simple, as per our live versions."
And that was 1984′s swansong. In the spring of 1968, shortly afler the Thames recording, mainly due to the pressures of infrequent meetings and university studies — coupled with increasing musical differences — 1984 scaled down their operations drastically. Brian May left the band, and Tim Staffell took over on lead guitar for a while. A little later, Tim himself quit, leaving Dave Dilloway, John Garnham and Richard Thompson to rebuild the group, which soldiered on into the 70′s, content merely to play for fun. They all conceded that 1984 had been a good, solid, and popular local band, but that it didn’t have the necessary spark or originality to transform into a great one.
The Left Handed Marriage
ln the summer of 1965, in another corner of Hampton Grammar School, Brian May’s old friend Bill Richards (who had been a fleeting, early member of 1984 before it acquired its futuristic name), and his colleagues Jenny Hill (née Rusbridge), Henry Deval and Terry Goulds, formed a folk-rock band called the Left-Handed Marriage, named after an archaic form of marrying beneath oneself. By January 1967, the quartet had progressed to the point where they had issued their own privately-pressed album, “On The Right Side Of The Left Handed Marriage", which ran to just fifty copies (and, incidentally, has since acquired cult status among collectors, with a £600 price tag to match).
Although naturally familiar with the al­bum, Brian May as yet had not been involved with the band. That changed in March 1967, after Bill signed a twelve-month contract with EMI's music publishing company Ardmore & Beechwood — a deal secured through the efforts of Brian Henderson, a former member of Edinburgh beat outfit the Mark Five, and more recently, the bassist in Patrick Campbell- Lyons' 60′s psychodelic band, Nirvana. Bill approached Brian to help him create a “fuller" sound for the Left Handed Marriage, with a request to provide guitar and backing vocals on some recording sessions.
On the understanding that the project wouldn’t interfere with his commitment to 1984, Brian agreed. On 4th April 1967, he joined Jenny, Henry, Terry and Bill in AMC Sound, an amateur studio in Manor Road, Twickenham, to record four songs: “Give Me Time” (later changed to “I Need Time"), "She Was Once My Friend", “Sugar Lump Girl” and “Yours Sincerely” (which was basically “Give Me Time" backwards, with new lyrics pinched from the Russian author Pushkin).
The songs were all cleanly-recorded, melodic atempts at 1967 pop (despite the Left Handed Marriage's later classification, there's little actual folk music in evidence). “She Was Once My Friend" is the pick of the bunch, thanks to its Kinks-like structure — complete with Bill Richard's/ Ray Davies-soundalike vocal and, albeit way down in the mix, flashes of that distinctive Brian May 'Red Special’ guitar sound. Acetates of the AMC EP were cut, and the idea had been to release the songs as a commercial EP.  Instead, the set merely became the Left Handed Marriage’s first demo for their publishers, although it did lead to the offer to record at a more professional session — at EMI’s prestigious Abbey Road studios.
The Abbey Road session took place on 28th June 1967, when Left Handed Marriage were joined by Brian and 1984′s Dave Dilloway, who was drafted in to play bass. Two further tracks were cut: the reworked “I Need Time",...[ ]

...[ ] and a new song called “Appointment". At this stage, there was more talk of issuing a record, this time a single, and a release date of August was even discussed. This never materialised either, and again 7″ acetates are all that remain.
Although Ardmore & Beechwood were pleased with the results, they still thought the Left Handed Marriage could improve their sound even further, and on 31st July 1967, they booked the band into another studio, this time Regent Sound in central London. As Dave Dilloway was not available, another friend, John Frankel, was called upon to play bass and piano. The eight-track Regent Sound ma­chine was something of a technological marvel, and the session was flawlessly recorded, resulting in new versions of “I Need Time”, “She Was Once My Friend" (which also remixed and edited for the abandoned single), and "Appointment".
Despite the studio quality of the tape, Ardmore & Beechwood failed to place the songs with a record label, and like so many groups before and since, the Left Handed Marriage quietly disappeared from view. It was left to frontman Bill Richards belatedly to issue the fruits of this last session, when in February 1993, he tagged the three Regent Sound recordings — the final mix of “I Need Time”, the abridged version of “She Was Once A Friend Of Mine” and the final mix of “Appointment” — onto the end of “Crazy Chain”, a CD recorded by the reformed Left Handed Marriage, which itself was prompted by collector's interest in the group’s original 1967 LP,  “The Right Hand Side Of...” . Most of the master tapes for the LHM recordings featuring Brian May have Iong since disappeared along with the Regent Sound studio, and (with the exception of "She Was Once My Friend") the Richards/May collaborations on the CD were digitally remastered from acetates.

Look. Claude has bigger fish to fry than what you’re gallivanting on about during the day. The man has a dream to catch with literally a country and 1/3 (woot woot alliance) on his shoulders. 
First, the future. Then, you. Can’t have a life together if there is no place for it to be had, yeah? 
This doesn’t mean that he never worries about you. Quite the contrary, if he begins then he can’t stop. So he doesn’t tinker the thought. 
Instead he has his most trusted allies at your back. During the Academy days you were left under Hilda’s watchful eye, and during the war you are always nearby (courtesy of matchmaker Prof.Byleth) 
Once he puts a ring on it you’ll have guards. No problem. 
He also trusts your own capabilities. One doesn’t train every day to walk out with nothing

Let us face it. Iggy is a worry-wart.
He freaks out over the most minuscule of situations. The poor lad nearly gets a heart attack at least once a day 
And no, i’m not just referring to his pre-timeskip self. Ignatz may have grown a head taller, got a backbone, fancy harem artist pants--but no, he did not lose his inner anxious zealot. That trait will cling until the day he dies sadly 
Having you at his side only makes things worse (in a good way. The trouble is worth it to him) 
Especially if you’re more of the risky sort. Expect him to mother hen if you cause ruckus around the monastery. He can and will lecture you to death (only to apologize and hide away after)
Now not only does he worry about his own issues, but also yours. I swear Ignatz acts like you are his second being. If someone scolds you, hurts you, etc. he acts like they did it to him 
Can be a bit dramatic, not gonna lie. He gets so worked up that his ears go red. Like, you can just t e l l he’s holding so much back because he doesn’t want to go too far
Don’t even get me started on if someone tries to make a move on you 
He becomes t o r n. It isn’t his place to tell you who to hang around, but ohmygodwhatifyourealizeheisn’tgoodenough 
iggy no, bad iggy. don’t think like that
He feels threatened so easily and not many would peg him the jealous type. He is, but hides it very well. 
If need be he will talk out his feelings with you. That’s something noteworthy of Ignatz: he uses his words. He may find communicating such thoughts aloud difficult, but if he truly is concerned then he will be honest with you.  
Raphael:

Raphael believes in trust. He expects you to be honest and to not keep anything important secret. In return he’ll do the same. 
This is why he doesn’t care if someone is flirting. He could give less of a thought on gossip, rumors, or anything really. That effort can go towards training 
He truly, honest to Sothis, trusts you with all his heart. There isn’t any time to spend doing otherwise. Raph just wants to live happily and that means having you by his side 
Nor does he feel intimidated by anyone else either. I’m not saying that he reeks of resolved confidence, but Raph believes that you love him. Love topples any mindless flirting that other people throw your way 
but let’s get one thing straight 
If anybody, and I mean ANYBODY, tries to hurt you 
This guy’s having them for b r e a k f a s t. Pounded, sliced, and Smoked. The same way he liked his bacon. 
You are his family. Raphael protects his family, and those he cares about. 
You will never be alone. Goddess if you cry and someone else is the cause then he will take action. One fault of Raph is that while he’s a sweetie, he doesn’t think before acting a lot. Similar to Caspar, he just goes for it 
It takes a lot to get underneath Raph’s skin. 
In short: do not f*ck with his loved ones. He would take on Nemisis himself mono-e-mono if it meant protecting them 
Lorenz:

He’s quickly shut down
“Lorenz if you tell one more person that we’re betrothed, I swear that I’ll shave off your eyebrows” - You, one month post-confession 
Saying that you’re his perfect match is no excuse. Considering all the preaching he does on noble humility, you’d think he would want your private affairs off the notice board? 
It doesn’t take long for your peers to start complaining. Claude finds his behavior entertaining, but not a day goes by that someone doesn’t beg you to make him shut up 
Lorenz is also a bit old fashioned. He doesn’t like the idea of you fighting more than necessary
Once again, shut down 
Best way to deal with Lorenz is to let him think he has his way, then just do whatever. He gets upset, pouts, spouts his normal lecture, but then relents. All in due process with him 
Never thought I’d say this, but perhaps requesting not to be in the same troop together is the best option? You’d think he would fight better with an S tier relationship at his side? Nahhh. HE TAKES YOUR KILLS IT IS NOT FAIR 
He gives too much attention to what you’re doing, and not the enemy. Best if you stay separated
Ugh pray no one hits on you in front of him. Just... *screams* I don’t think anyone will, just to avoid him getting defensive. I swear the other deer take extensive preventative measures to avoid it.

You two most likely grew closer because she “asks” you for help so often 
Just like Claude, she has bigger fish to fry. The last type of person she wants to be is Holst (she loves him though don’t misinterpret that)
She does worry though 
Not enough to make her take the front lines, but a smidgen. Just to where you’ll get periodic check in’s 
Nothing obvious. A simple “what’s going on?”  as she inquired about your well-being 
A precarious scan-over as she checks for any new scars
She does get jealous though. There’s an entire castle full of available people and someone chooses to flirt with you? 
That just doesn’t make sense. Perhaps the “once something is taken it becomes more desirable,” saying has some truth 
She’s quite the clinger. You’ll just be walking and suddenly, BOOM, bubble-gum pink arm-candy in the corner of your vision
Once you two bypass the ‘puppy-love’ early stages, she changes. 
Despite her negligence beforehand, she does become overprotective   
Will fight if needed. Say you have a paralogue? Just so happens she was nearby and wants to tag along

Marianne:

A possessive streak is nonexistent in her blood. Such thing is a personal fear of her’s. Marianne refuses to conform to the stereotypes associated with her crest 
However, she does believe that one day you may leave her side. Marianne isn’t the most confident person. She...doubts 
Often does she wonder if you’re there solely to make her hurt. To love her and then one day disappear without a trace 
Anxieties like so will not go away overnight. She will not seek reassurance, which makes her more uncommunicative than most partners 
but no one is perfect. Neither are you. All you personally can do is politely decline any advances, and do your best to let Marianne know that you love her 
She isn’t particularly protective in any other sense either. She’ll heal you if needed, but special attention isn’t there
Marianne treats being a healer like how an ER doctor operates. On the field, everyone is equal. She is needed everywhere and cannot stay by your side. Otherwise lives will be lost, and that won’t be good for her conscience.
The same goes for all other aspects. If you’re gone, then you’re gone. If you’re sick, then you’re sick. She cannot give you special attention and acts in accordance to severity of the situation. Patients cannot be weighed in value via personal bias 
She has a surprisingly strong sense of self control, let me tell ya.
Lysithea:

She...does not have much time. Entering a romantic relationship was not a possibility that crossed her mind once before you 
Why bother when the ending is certain? Why leave someone brokenhearted, or a widow? Why give herself that extra stress when she’s already under so much as it is?
You can’t blame her for being extra cautious. While her life may be hanging on a string, that doesn’t mean yours has to end 
After some time she develops a resolve. If needed she would gladly lay her life down if it meant you could live another day 
A problematic conclusion. You two will argue often over how she cannot trade a ‘life for a life,’ just because of her special circumstances. Her mind always enforces that it’s the logical decision, and has trouble recognizing her own value
I suppose that comes with being a know-it-all, huh? Once her mind is set then there is no changing it 
Despite her brain sending all the signals that acting on jealousy is wrong...well, we know Lysithea 
She won’t come out and say she gets protective for your sake. Apparently anyone flirting with you already had business with her
Business that miraculously unfolds once you leave. Then suddenly they no longer have an interest? 
What’d she do? Threaten to shove a thoron up their rectum? No one knows 
Leonie:

She is the mom who’d create a strict morning routine for her kids to follow before school 
Or a thorough itinerary on a vacation 
Not a moment or bullion to be wasted! 
Cannot express enough how much this girl cares. She can become annoying from all the interference, but you’ll never become a bum with her in your life 
You might want to ask her to butt out. Remind her that you’re not one of the kids from her village, and that you can handle yourself 
Sometimes you’ll joke and say “yes mom,” because she gets b o s s y 
Which will earn you either: a) a glare, or b) her playing along and confusing everyone else 
So in a sense, yeah she’s protective. Overbearing in her own Leonie way 
Not the jealous type. Leonie doesn’t look at what other people have, and instead focuses on her own life. If someone wants to shamelessly throw themselves at your feet then that’s their issue. You know better than to cheat on her 
I can see her complaining to the captain or to Byleth though. Why waste time when the issue can easily be solved? Obviously someone with the time to flirt has time to do training drills  
Bonus! Cyril: (because during my first play-through I kept expecting GD to take him under their wing. They did not, and Nintendo missed out.)

He personally hates being treated like a child. When someone doesn’t take him seriously Cyril’s self restraint goes b o o m 
So he won’t do that to you. You’re a capable individual and that’s that. Nothing more for him to interfere with 
His only protective streak lies when you’re incapable of doing things yourself. Aka: injured, ill, resting, etc. 
He’ll nag you for not being careful, but it’s not hard to miss the tears pricking his eyes 
He’s also very perceptive towards break-in’s. Many people have tried to kidnap/assassinate people of higher standing. He’s witnessed many attempts towards lady Rhea. I see him taking night shifts for patrol often, and after the war the habit sticks with him.
He takes a lot onto his shoulders often. It’s not bad. Being dedicated is an admirable trait, yet if you’re down someone will have to stop him from picking up the slack. 
He’s no healer, and leaves that job to the professionals. However he doesn’t want anyone to disturb you with the work your missing. So he’ll do it in your stead 
Manuela lets him stay in the infirmary past visitation hours. Mostly because he’s so busy during the day that he can’t come by 
He won’t return to his room those nights. He prefers to be by your side, just in case. 
Other than this type of situation- no, he’s not protective in the slightest.

i get you bc I'm an actual rap fan (not just kpop hip hop) so if you come from that background you're like used to a certain style or whatever, and yoongi definitely emulates it, you can tell he grew up listening to biggie and jay and eminem. but again I know taste is subjective. if you had to rank the rapline in objective terms could you do it?
Hmmm yeah I think I kinda agree with you. I'm not sure if I'd say yoongi emulates them or even if he does it better (but then again, all korean hip hop is a literal copy of black music and culture, specially black people from the USA), but he's a favorite among hiphop lovers.

but the long answer explains why I ranked them this way, and I went off and wrote all of this in 20 minutes so if you feel like reading it, here you go:
About Agust D, his unique production style imo is what shines through even more so than namjoon and Hoseok's. his first mixtape is raw Yoongi style. it's insane. I actually didn't think he could surpass it in D-2 but he shut me up. You can tell that man was originally going to be just bangtan's producer. He's got an ear for catchy hooks, innovative rhythm schemes and he just knows how to make a hit. it reminds me so much of young Kendrick Lamar, or Kanye in his golden age..... hell I'll admit I hadn't been as pumped listening to a rapper since I discovered Childish and Tyler the creator. His lyrics however are often just dissing, humble brag, humble brag, ambiguous reference to his sexuality, more dissing, reference to his time in bts. Which is fine!! I listen to agust d to get hyped and feel like a bad motherfucker. it does its job. If you care about speed, Yoongi beats Namjoon and Hoseok easily. He can spit bars like Eminem. He's got the speed, the flow, and it's really fucking hot.
regarding Namjoon, if you listen to RM's first mixtape though, it's very much a western rap mixtape. almost all the tracks are samples from black American rappers. what shines through in RM's rapping is his lyricism and ability to play with the verse, imagery and word play. but there's at least five of his songs that sound the same melody and production wise. However, he's also versatile, because mono is something so unlike anything you could've expected from RM after the first mixtape. I actually have a problem with mono being called a rap mixtape lmao. mono isn't rap, it's alternative hiphop mixed with lofi r&b, a very pleasant indie sound that I've only heard with Frank ocean, Kevin abstract, or Steve lacy. but still, mono is, accordingly, very monotonous in its musicality. That's why a lot of people put it on before they go to bed. it winds you down. But yeah, RM isn't as focused on the track's melody as he is in the story he tells. So I guess you could say Agust D's strength lies in his beats and melodies, while RM's is his lyrics and rhyme schemes. I'm gonna get made fun of in reddit if a screenshot of this gets spread around but I hadn't seen such a powerful, born lyricist since 2pac and Biggie. his shit is off the rocker. It makes sense that his role model is Nas, who's also known for powerful verses. Regarding his rapping style, he can be fast but he's better at playing with the cadence. His delivery is stronger than his flow, but Yoongi can match him in delivery too.
Hoseok is a very different case. man didn't even know how to rap when he joined big hit. He only listened to hip hop for his dance performances, he didn't grow up absorbing the culture the way Yoongi and Namjoon did. RM and Agust D move like you expect underground seasoned rappers to move, J-Hope moves more like a pop star. His lyrics aren't as intricate as RM's, but he still manages to paint an image in your head, he manages to get his point across while still making references to literary works such as 20,000 leagues under the sea, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Alice in Wonderland, and Around the World in 80 Days. Can you tell he's a literature teacher's son? People have this idea that his songs are just feel good, happy tunes, but there's much more depth than that. I think personally he's more of an r&b artist than a rapper, at least that's the way I feel it. His strength lies in his stylization of the music and composition of a track's journey. He's a dancer, ofc he knows how to make the song build tension, keeping you waiting, and then he knows exactly when to give you release. His musicality is top tier, he rivals Agust D in that aspect. But he comes up short in flow. He's not as fast or effortless as RM or Agust D when it comes to speed. He can spit bars, don't get me wrong, but his style is less about fast verses. Emotion wise he beats RM and Agust D though, because his stage presence surpasses the other two. He knows himself and he knows what his strengths and weaknesses are. He makes every song his own. I saw a meme that I think is very fitting here, this is literally Hoseok:

it's true! Yoongi can do RM and Namjoon can do Agust d, but neither of them can do Hoseok's verses. There's a performance where Namjoon and Hobi fill in Yoongi's mic drop verse, but I remember an interview where Yoongi says neither him or Namjoon could do Hoseok's verse in Outro: tear. whether that makes him better or just different I leave to your interpretation. I'll just say he stands out.

watching ONE write women
One of the joys of following a writer for a while is that you get to follow how their ideas develop.   One of the things that ONE brought up in an interview (annoyingly I’ve lost the link) was that he didn’t think that he wrote women particularly well. 
I was thinking about that.  When ONE says that, what comes across to me is that he has no problem writing a female character as an individual rather than a role.  All the girls and women he’s written so far have their own voices, own their problems, and have something to do within the story that would be noticeable if they weren’t there.  Quite frankly, that alone is over and above what various tests of representation (such as the Bechdel test) ask for.  
What he’s not so good at is appreciating what being female brings to a character’s experiences and outlook.  But he’s not just left it at that.  More on what he’s been doing in a bit (and under the cut).

With his sharp eye and talent for exploring the implications of whatever he posits, ONE has brought up some issues are not inherently gendered, but usually are. 
A: Childcare
Metal Bat appears to be the main, if not sole, carer for Zenko.  How it affects him is fascinating.  He’s one of the longest-serving heroes in the Hero Association, being there before Class S was formed, literally within the first six months of its establishment.  He’s been extremely loyal and is highly trusted by the HA -- they put Narinki’s life into his hands without fear.  His battle strength is literally praised to the heavens.
Metal Bat makes Zenko a priority, structuring his availability around her school schedule and being present in her life. He gets very angry if these times are threatened without overwhelmingly good cause.  His reward is to be perceived by the Hero Association as less committed and so they under-recognise him in terms of ranking, and since rank and pay are linked, under-pay him as well.  It’s a story all too many women can relate to.  But that’s not all.

Because ONE writes so simply yet conscientiously, something else comes up and has a peek: intersectionality. It’s the concept that we often have multiple social disadvantages that interact and compound our problems.  The first is sexism.  Regardless of whatever childcare policy the HA has, the sexist assumption that only women care (for the record: this is bullshit) makes it unlikely for them to ask Metal Bat.  Second, social capital. The fact that he’s Zenko’s sole carer means that he has low social capital, that informal network of people around you who can help out -- or tell you where to find help and what things to say in order to get that help. [Aside: this is why programmes to help people, unless they reach out aggressively, tend to disproportionately attract those who need it least.]  Metal Bat doesn’t have the knowledge.  The third is the challenge brought by his being a 17-year old boy.  He’s quick to perceive challenge as threat, and threat as something to be met by anger.  Witness him threatening to smash the HA headquarters if it turns out that he’s missed Zenko’s piano recital for nothing -- completely not useful to anything. [Another aside: the importance of learning to disambiguate emotions and do useful things with them even if it means being vulnerable as a part of growing up as a man is the whole point of Mob Psycho 100.]
What do the Neo Heroes do?  They ask Metal Bat if he wants help with childcare AND HE JUMPS SHIP PRONTO.  If that’s not an indictment of the Hero Association, I don’t know what is.

B: Emotional Labour
Saitama has been delegating more and more of the day-to-day work to Genos.  What started as an act of service to express his gratitude, respect and love for Saitama is increasingly turning into a second job for Genos.  It’s not just the cooking and cleaning and the shopping and the bailing Saitama out if he’s forgotten his wallet again, it’s also the worrying about Saitama, sometimes at inappropriate times.  Has he drunk enough water?  Has he clean clothes in good repair? What sales is he looking forward to? Have they been marked on the calendar?  It’s honestly not doing Genos any good, and it’s one of those things all too many frustrated wives and girlfriends can relate to.  This doing the practical and emotional work for another is not intrinsically gendered, but funny how often it breaks that way.

It’s not doing Saitama any good either.  He’s using this freed up time to fritter his life ever more aggressively away, playing games with King and finding pointless competitions to enter, all while complaining about feeling less and less connected to anything (if you don’t address the problem, it doesn’t get better, duh!).  Worse, he’s started to take that gift of service for granted, witness him airily telling King how he’ll just have Genos go clear up the mess of monsters he’s left outside the flat.  I was heartened to see what happened when Saitama went a little too far and asked Genos to go cook and instead of jumping up, Genos gave him the the evil eye and let the awkwardness hang there.  That was good -- there’s hope for this guy yet.

Speaking of Genos, he also over-functions for something else Saitama struggles with: advocating for himself.  He tends to have Genos be the ugly one so he doesn’t have to be.   You can see just how bad he is at self-advocacy when Forte and friends could invite themselves into Saitama’s house at will despite his protests -- and it stopped the instant Genos showed up.
In a sense, it’s not surprising that Genos can do that. When you’re differently-abled (and for once, this is not a euphemism) as he is, being able to clearly ask for what you want and need is life-and-death necessary. If Genos was shy about it, he’s long since had to discard that.  But!  Let me point to a nuance the story touches on.  How pushy you can be without being punished for it depends a lot on who you are, intersecting strongly with race, gender, social status, etc (remember my mentioning intersectionality before). What’s called assertive in a man is called bitchy or sharp-elbowed in a woman.  Even taking gender and race out of the equation, there’s still a noticeable difference in the way the world treats Saitama and Genos.  You don’t need to be Sigmund Freud to understand the way the short, ugly Dr. Kuseno sweats making sure that Genos positively radiates youth, beauty, wealth and power. That’s part of his right to ask and be taken seriously.  You can see how drastically different it is for Saitama, even from his middle school days.  Genos notices, and makes sure to leverage his social power for Saitama.

What I love about these examples are that by not automatically heaving a woman into these characters’ roles, ONE’s brought a less frequently seen angle that illustrates the problems they deal with are not ‘womens’ issues per se but are rather inequities that disproportionately affect women -- which is at the heart of what feminists keep saying.  When you read Makai no Ossan, you can appreciate that ONE could have gone with female characters and done a great job, but his choosing not to has brought a very welcome dimension to the story.
Women proper
“I’m not like other girls”
Still, bit by bit, ONE has been working more women into his stories.  After his interview, the next thing he worked on was the single-volume sequel to Mob Psycho 100,  Reigen.  He took his challenge head-on by making the POV character Tome and putting her in an all-girls’ high school.
Throughout the story, we see Tome thinking of herself as special, better than her fellow classmates, whom she sees as vapid and shallow.  The denouement comes with Tome being humbled as she gets to know her classmates better and realises that  they pursue interests just as varied and weird as hers -- only they’re also practicing being socially adept on top of that.
It’s a gentle story, but it’s still a great side-swipe at self-internalised misogyny, the idea that it’s shameful to be like a ‘girl’ and it’s something to distance oneself from.   Fortunately, Tome can laugh at herself and grow up.

For a long time, the only (named) women we had in OPM were Tatsumaki and her younger sister Fubuki.   We’ve gotten more women both good and bad: in particular, it’s been very gratifying to find that one of the most dangerous, story-shaping villains in the story is Psykos.
In the webcomic, ONE’s pushed even further.  A recent Tweet featured him talking about how hard he finds it to draw women. And he’s added several.   No same-face for him!    I’ll talk about the new heroines he’s added, but first, let me draw your attentions to something most artists don’t realize they do: massively skew the gender distribution of crowds, even when it is incredibly illogical to do so.   With ONE, even drawing the crowds at the fair who gaggle at Amai Mask, he’s got a far more even balance of women and they’re not all young and pretty -- which is much more true-to-life.  He’s in the business of drawing people.
ONE has featured microaggressions before, particularly in the way Fubuki can have perfectly sound things to say and be totally ignored,  but he brings it properly to the fore with Suiko.  No one calls her incompetent, but the little put downs she gets when she puts herself forward for the hero test in lieu of her brother, oh they’re well-observed The look on her face just makes it.  I love the way she shut the recruiters up subsequently.

  Let’s conclude this tour with a look at Webigaza’s lonely figure.  We have another mono-manically focused cyborg in the story.  Genos has been called a lot of things -- determined, obsessive even, but crazy? Never. Notice who it’s been reserved for instead.  It’s no slip of the tongue.

Wrapping Up
I’m of the impression that ONE really wants to try to capture as much of the human experience as he can in his stories, however whimsical or fantastical the stories themselves are.  I’m disarmed by his humility in accepting that he’ll never have the lived experience of half the world’s population but he sure as hell can put some effort into learning how to to writing well-realised, believable, female characters.  
I watch ONE’s continued development as a writer with interest.

BnHA Chapter 264: You Either Die a Hero...
Previously on BnHA: The kids of 1-A sat around waiting for something exciting to happen, and then it did happen, and they were all “!!” Over on the front lines, the heroes charged the Ol’ Villain Hotel with poor Kaminari crying the entire time, but we’ll excuse him since he is only in the second grade. Tokoyami gave him some gentle encouragement by reminding him of how hard he can slappa da bass, while Midnight told him to think of his one true love in order to find his inner courage, so he immediately thought of Jirou and everyone was like WHOA DID THEY REALLY JUST, and yeah, they kind of did? Anyway so Cementoss ripped the building open and Kaminari got all Thor on us and started battling this other electric guy, and then we cut to Hawks and Twice, who were having a friendly conversation similar to the friendly conversation Hawks had with Best Jeanist on the very same day that Jeanist abruptly went missing and was never heard from again! Hey, wait a second. You guys don’t suppose...??
Today on BnHA: Re-Destro gathers in the basement with all his followers and they’re all like “Re-Destro!!” and he’s all “what??” and they’re all “the heroes are attacking!!” and he’s all “:) :) :) the fuck??!” Outside, the heroes continue to wreak havoc, and between Edgeshot, Midnight, Honenuki and Toadette, I’m pretty sure they have actually killed some of these guys. But that’s silly though because heroes would never actually kill someone. Speaking of heroes not killing someone, back in the hotel, Hawks is all “(Ò‸Ó)” and Twice is all “(இ‸இ)” and then Hawks is all “I’m gonna arrest you but I’ll help you get through this and get back on your feet again afterwards because you’re a good person” and Twice is all “WHAT THE FUCK NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN” and does the whole Sad Man Parade thing. And Hawks is all “I don’t want to fight you!” and Twice is all “TOO BAD” and meanwhile Dabi is running up the stairs all “time to start some shit” and then the chapter ends. So while I’m relieved on behalf of Hawks’s soul, I can’t help but be a little concerned on behalf of his, uh, life. Shit.
okay, so! I finally have time to read this damn thing. but before I start, a couple of holdover thoughts from the prior chapter!
firstly, I want to go on the record now and say that I’ve decided once again that Hawks, in spite of all appearances, is not a murderer. you hear that Hawks. I’m putting my neck on the line for you. gonna look like a real stooge if you go and murder Twice before going on to fight Dabi to the death while we cut to Noumu!Jeanist taunting Bakugou
but in all seriousness, I just can’t reconcile it with what we know of Hawks’s character. his behavior during the fight against Hood almost got him exposed because he couldn’t bear to let anyone get hurt or to let Endeavor get killed. I know the HPSC got their claws in him at a young age, but in spite of that I don’t think he’s harboring a dark side. to me he always just comes off as tired and struggling to do the right thing even though he never asked to be put into this kind of position. he’s smart enough to understand the whole “needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” thing, but he’s also young enough to still hold to a certain idealism, and juuust cocky enough to have faith in his own cleverness and convince himself that he can somehow achieve this mission without sacrificing anyone else’s life
so in short, I don’t buy the dark!Hawks theories. I just can’t. but I guess we’re about to see! and my guess is that Horikoshi will probably have Dabi interrupt before Hawks can reveal his hand either way, because Horikoshi is just like that. what a troll
(ETA: I forgot that sometimes Horikoshi also likes to troll by giving you exactly what you want but in the most painful way possible. shit.)

I’m actually really glad I’ve been reading the fan translations first, because it made me more aware of the potential nuances in this scene. so is KamiJirou actually being confirmed here, or not?? and I spent 20 whole minutes digging into this more the other day because I have no life, so here are my findings!
first, here is the actual Japanese panel

and while I don’t speak Japanese, I can read hiragana well enough that I was able to plug it into a couple of translators to basically figure out what was being said. so here’s the full dialogue:

so the part in bold there is the line in question -- 大事なもの (daijina mono). “daiji” means “precious” or “important”, but the thing is, “mono” for whatever reason is written in hiragana and not kanji. and the word mono (which can be singular or plural btw) can hilariously mean either of the following depending on the kanji used:

lmao. so basically the bottom line is that from what I can see here, Horikoshi purposely didn’t specify! now I could be completely wrong; maybe this is a common enough expression that Caleb felt comfortable deciding that he meant “person.” or maybe he just guessed based on the context. or maybe he just said “fuck it, you only live once” and just went there because why the heck not
anyway, so that was fun, and for me it reinforced the fact that I really do prefer to have at least two different translations to compare in order to get the most complete picture of what exactly is going on here in this stupid manga that I obsess over week after week! so now let’s finally get to reading this thing

and that last part! holy shit! again, I don’t buy into any of the dark!Hawks theories, and that includes the theory that Hawks will turn on the heroes and end up siding with the villains (because, again, it has nothing to do with him liking the villains, or secretly resenting the HPSC; it’s strictly on account of the whole “the villains want to destroy the entire world” thing. like. unless you think Hawks is cool with all of that of course). so I have to admit this was very startling for me to read
but I do think this is probably just some of the inevitable self-loathing finally spilling over after being forced to play this role and do all these things for the sake of the greater good, rather than him hinting at a desire to turn against the so-called “hero scum.” but still, that’s probably as dark as we’re gonna get from him, and ngl, it’s some heavy stuff

A/N - I’m so sorry it’s taken so long for me to update :(( as some of you know, I had an allergic reaction recently and have been so sick and out of it that I wasn’t able to really write anything. and I didn’t want to just post something to post something so I had to wait until I was feeling better which turned out to be today. anyways, this chapter is back to the normal length I had started out with at the beginning of this series simply because I don’t want this series to end yet and the next chapter might be a little long because it is going to be action packed! When Eleven opened her eyes she was met with nothingness. All around her was just the empty black void that usually surrounded her when she tried to use her powers, the ground below her covered with water that was invisible to the eye but still made the sloshing around sound when she moved.
She began to walk forward with no destination pinpointed in her head. All she had guiding her along was a feeling, a feeling that told her Y/N was close.
Eleven let the feeling guide her as she silently walked through the void, only ever breaking the silence to let out a small sigh of relief when something began to appear in the distance. She didn't know what had her doing it, but Eleven found herself breaking into a run, the thought of Y/N being so close even if it was only in her mind enough to move her along.
As she grew closer, she realized that the thing in the distance had been none other than Y/N herself, the young girl hugging her body and trying to make herself as small as possible as she quietly sobbed. Eleven felt her heart drop at the sight and she didn't hesitate to slide to her knees in front of the girl, the invisible water splashing up onto her jeans as she did so.
Y/N let out a small sob as she hid her face against her knees that she was hugging close to her chest. It was obvious she was hiding from the way she kept her cries to only above a whisper level and how she kept her body as small as possible.
Eleven didn't like thinking that Y/N was actually hiding from something and that she was no one near enough to help.
Eleven stared at her friend for a moment before whispering out, "Y/N?"
The girl tensed at that, her cries silencing as her body shook less. Y/N pulled her face away from her knees and let her eyes flicker around her before they landed on Eleven. A look of utter fear was on Y/N's face, but she still managed to whisper out, "El?"
Eleven felt the tears begin to fill her eyes as she looked at her friend, nodding her head almost eagerly as if to tell her that she was here. "We're coming for you," Eleven told her. "Me, Bill, the Party, and the rest of the Losers. We're all coming to save you."
"I don't want you guys getting hurt," Y/N whispered, the fright in her eyes ten times worse now that she was thinking about her friends coming after her.
"We're coming to get you," Eleven stared firmly, tears falling down her cheek. "You're going to be okay. Just wait a little longer."
"Please hurry," Y/N finally said, nodding slightly as she realized there was no way she could change her friends' minds. There was silence before Y/N perked up, almost as if she had heard a sound.
Y/N began to shake, her eyes flickering over to Eleven as her lip started to quiver. Y/N let out a soft sob and desperately reached out for Eleven as she whimpered out, "El."
Eleven didn't even hesitate to reach out for the girl, wanting nothing more than to be able to rip her friend away from the situation she was in. But just when their hands were about to touch, Y/N let out a scream and her image dissolved before Eleven's eyes.
Eleven's hand fell through the air and hit the ground. It was like everything hit her all at once and Eleven let out a scream, her whole body shaking as she desperately touched the area around her.
"Y/N! Y/N!" Eleven cried out, the water splashing everywhere as she tried to get her friend back. The tears were freely flowing now and she was sobbing as she grabbed at nothing.
She was woken awake at that moment and Eleven came back to reality with a loud gasp, the tears in her mind a real representation of how she looked now. She was hyperventilating and she desperately looked around, barely being able to focus on Wheeler or Max who were kneeling down before her.
Their lips were moving, but Eleven couldn't register what they said. All she could do was scream and cry out her friend's name as hot tears rolled down her cheeks.
The sight of her was making everyone freak out except for Bill who had gone as white as a sheet, his eyes glossing over as she stared at Eleven helplessly. . .heartbrokenly.
Wheeler eventually just pulled Eleven close to his body, the hug he gave her secure enough that she began to calm down and was able to hold him back. It took her a couple of more minutes, but her screams quieted and she was left just softly crying as Wheeler held her.
Bill was the first to say something, finally breaking the silence with, "W-W-What happened? Is Y/N o-o-okay?"
Everyone looked to him, the desperation in his voice for needing Y/N to be okay enough to tug at their heartstrings. Eleven locked eyes with the boy and wiped at her tears as she whispered, "I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Steve asked a little aggressively, the thought of the girl being anything but okay not able to process in his mind.
"She. . .she disappeared," Eleven said, those words earning confused looks from everyone. "I saw her. She was hiding and she was scared. I told her that we were coming and then she screamed and disappeared."
Eleven began to cry again and a heavy silence fell among the group as they tried to think of what could've gotten her. Whether it was Pennywise or a demogorgon, neither would be good.
Bill clenched his jaw and looked to the ground before saying, "So she's alive and needs our help." Everyone looked to him, wondering if he wasn't quite understanding what Eleven had said.
But when they saw the tears in his eyes, they knew he had heard but didn't want to listen or believe anything other than Y/N was alive. And maybe they were the same way.
Richie nodded in agreement before clapping his hands to gain the attention of the others. He smirked at them, "Let's get to work, motherfuckers."

The Losers and the Party spent the rest of the evening preparing for their journey into the Upside Down. Having gone into the Well House late that evening, the groups were only able to get the necessary weapons they needed and plan out how to teach the other group to fight their enemy. So the next day all of the Losers had to come up with some excuse for not being able to go to school just to be able to get to Y/N's house.
Luckily Y/N's parents were still out of town, so they had no idea that their little girl was missing. As for the Losers' parents, they all believed that Richie had mono, Eddie was having a bad asthma day, Bill had strep, Beverly had bronchitis, Ben had a stomach bug, and that Mike was fighting a fever. So after their parents all left for work and the kids locked their doors, they climbed out their windows, got on their bikes, and pedaled towards Y/N's house.
They were there by nine and the game plan for the day was that the Losers would tell their story to the Party before teaching them how to fight off Pennywise before lunch. After lunch, the Party would then tell the Losers about their story before teaching them how to fight the Upside Down and the mindflayer.
That's how the Losers ended up telling everyone about what had happened to them two years ago, starting with the disappearance of Georgie Denbrough and ending with the pact they had made as they showed the others their hands.
"You guys were fifteen and decided to make your own blood oath?" Steve asked in shock. The Losers were silent as they stared at the boy before they nodded. "Well, shit. When I was fifteen, all Y/N and I did was make pinky promises."
That earned a small chuckle from the others, finally breaking some of the tension that had fallen on them since the previous night.
"So how do we defeat this thing?" Lucas asked, leaning back in his chair as he let his eyes flicker over the Losers.
"Do one of you have a secret power you aren't telling us about?" Will questioned, the look in his eyes almost hopeful as he wished for nothing more than it to be that easy. Then again, nothing ever was.
"Sadly, no," Stan muttered with a sigh.
"It feeds on fear," Beverly explained. "Two years ago, we were able to defeat It because we weren't afraid."
"So we just have to not be afraid?" Dustin asked.
"That's simple enough," Steve muttered with a shrug, not understanding why fighting this clown was so hard.
"You don't get it," Mike insisted as he shook his head. "It changes into your worst fears. It will take all of your willpower not to be afraid of what it shows you."
The Party all froze at that, their fears flashing through their head, before they all shuddered in sync. "How the hell are we going to be able to stop that stupid clown from scaring us if it changes into our worst nightmares?" Max asked.
"How did you guys do it?" Wheeler asked, his eyes flickering over the group before he stopped on Richie and gave him a questioning look.
"I just imagined your mom and I wasn't scared anymore," Richie said almost instantly before he grimaced. "Sorry, it's about instinct. But in all seriousness, you just have to think about what's most important in that moment. For us, that fucking clown was literally holding Bill hostage, so all we could think about was saving our friend and then getting the hell out of there."
"It had killed so many kids just like us that all we wanted was for it to end," Eddie agreed.
"I think we were more angry than anything. It had captured Beverly and then was threatening to kill Bill right then and there. We were mad," Ben added.
"You have to take your fear and then it into anger," Stan explained.
"Th-Th-Think of Y/N," Bill said, the mention of their friend's name making everyone tense. "Think of h-h-her and how she's b-b-being tortured down there. Th-Th-Think of how much you w-w-want to save her and h-h-how angry you are that th-th-they would even think of h-h-harming her."
The Party all nodded, completely understanding what Bill was telling them. Getting angry wouldn't be the hard part. Sure they were upset about what had happened, but they were pissed at the prospect of It or the Mindflayer touching and harming their friend.
"Don't let It g-g-gain control and w-w-winning this thing should b-b-be easy."

"Welcome to Dustin's Fool-Proof Five Steps to Defeating the Upside Down and Saving Your Friend seminar," Dustin announced as he stood before the Losers' Club with his hands clasped together. It was just after lunch and Dustin had insisted on everyone sitting down while he started the next session off.
The Party stood behind him and rolled their eyes gently while the Losers all stared at him in surprise. Richie glanced over at Eddie who was sitting beside him and gave him a look to which Eddie returned with a shrug before they turned their attention back to the boy before them.
"Let's begin with a crash course on everything you need to know about the Upside Down. It all began when Will over here went missing," Dustin began before he started rambling his way through the story, talking about how they had first met Eleven and Y/N had insisted they help her out and ending with the Fourth of July where they defeated the Mind Flayer and then Y/N moved.
Dustin clapped his hands and looked to the group before saying, "Any questions as of right now?" Eddie began to raise his hand, but Dustin ignored him and just smiled, "Great. Let's move onto the five steps, shall we?"
Eddie let his hand slowly fall while Richie chuckled beside him, which earned him a punch in the shoulder.
"Step one is knowing what you're dealing with, which I just told you so you're already partially there!" Dustin told them with a smile while Richie looked to Wheeler in disbelief. Wheeler just shrugged and Richie looked back to Dustin.
"Step Two is-"
"Okay, buddy. I think that's enough," Lucas said as he patted his friend's shoulder.
"But they haven't heard steps two, three, four, or five," Dustin complained.
Lucas just ignored the boy before gently pushing him aside. "What you guys need to know is that literally anything can be a weapon when it comes to fighting the Upside Down. I mean, we used shitty fireworks against the Mind Flayer! If we distract him long enough for Eleven to use her powers, then we will be golden," Lucas explained.
"But whatever we do, we have to be quiet. The Upside Down is the Mind Flayer's territory. We so much as slip up once and he will be on our tail as will all the other demogorgons and demodogs," Wheeler said.
"So basically we just need to protect Eleven and stay quiet so that the Mind Flayer can't sense us?" Stan asked.
"Pretty much," Steve replied with a small shrug as he messed with the nails on his bat.
"We have to make sure to close the gate," Will added. "If we don't close it, there's no telling what will happen. You guys said that It has been in our world before and we know that the Mind Flayer has been in our world too. If we don't close the gate and stop them from returning, then the two working together could be a lot worse than any of us will ever realize."
"Will's right. We get Y/N and get the hell out of there. As soon as everyone, and I mean everyone, is out, then I will close the gate and we should be home free after that," Eleven said.
"How are we going to know where to find her?" Ben asked.
"W-W-We won't. We will j-j-just have to look a-a-around," Bill explained.
"We're going to split up again?" Eddie questioned, his voice a little high in fright.
"No," Bill shook his head. "W-W-We can't. It's easier to st-st-stop us if we aren't t-t-together, so we have to stay i-i-in one big group if w-w-we want to save Y/N." There was a silence before Bill asked, "Anymore qu-qu-questions?"
Richie sighed, "I'm sure I'll have some later, but I'm good for now."
Bill smiled ever so slightly before glancing at the others. They all remained silent and Bill nodded before picking up the crowbar he was going to use as a weapon.
"Let's g-g-go get, Y/N."

When Y/N came to, the first thing she noticed was that she was still alive. How that was possible? She had no idea, but she was alive and that was all that mattered.
The next she noticed was the incredible amount of pain coming from her head, a head throb so intense that she must have hit it before she was knocked unconscious.
Then she remembered everything that had happened leading up to her waking up in a strange place. Y/N had been talking to Eleven who had been able to communicate with her with her powers before a demogorgon had found the young girl and snatched her away. Everything had gone black after that before Y/N had woken up in the situation she was in.
Lastly she realized just where she was—her school cafeteria.
Not a very frightening place for the young girl, but the decay of it all was still enough to make her shudder. The only really weird part about the cafeteria was the fact that she had not been in there before she passed out. In fact, she had been near the quarry, so how she ended up in her school cafeteria without becoming a demogorgon's lunch was beyond her.
There didn't seem to be any demogorgons in sight and Pennywise was no where near by, so Y/N slowly got up from where she had woken up in the floor before she began to walk around, her eyes darting all around her as she carefully surveyed the area.
Ever since she got trapped in the Upside Down, It and the Mind Flayer had been toying with her, messing with her mind and her fear just for pure entertainment. Y/N wanted nothing more than for it to end.
Just then the door to the cafeteria burst open, the old doors swinging open so fast that they fell off once they hit the wall.
Y/N jumped in surprise before quickly turning to state at the doorway, freezing once she realized what was standing before her.
Her crush and best friend Bill Denbrough.
Y/N froze in her tracks at the sight of the boy before her bottom lip began to quiver. "Bill?" she whispered in disbelief, her eyes drinking in his appearance as he stood before her in the jacket she had recently started wearing.
Her eyes had filled with tears and her breathing was a little erratic as she shook her head in disbelief. She didn't even think twice before beginning to run towards the boy, wanting nothing more than for him to wrap his arms around her and help get her out of there.
However, to her surprise, Bill's eyes widened at the sight of her and he turned before bolting away.
This action caused Y/N to slow down a bit before she furrowed her eyebrows and ran faster to catch up with the boy. "Bill?" Y/N called out as she ran out of the school, only to see the boy running towards the woods nearby.
Y/N's heart leapt into her throat at the thought of the demogorgons or It getting to the boy, so she broke out into a sprint, too focused on making sure that he was safe to wonder why he was running away from her in the first place.
"Bill!" Y/N continued to yell, the confusion and worry evident in her voice as she followed him through the woods.
She didn't know why, but it seemed like he was running at an inhuman like speed. Every time he disappeared from view, the moment he was in her line of sight again, his distance from her had doubled.
She didn't stop yelling for the boy until they had reached the familiar cliff that led down to the quarry, Bill having stopped just before the edge, an observation that made her heart beat erratically as worry coursed through her whole body.
"Bill?" she whispered almost hesitantly, her head tilting slightly as she stared at the boy ahead of him. "What's wrong? Are you okay? How did you get down here? Where are the others?"
The questions were falling from her mouth so quickly that she knew Bill wasn't able to process it fast enough, but she was just so nervous and so relieved that he was here that she couldn't control her own mouth.
Only when Bill turned around suddenly to look at her did she fall silent, his honey brown eyes licking with hers making her mouth fall open slightly at just how mesmerizing the boy was. Then again, he always was. She had always been able to just stare into his eyes forever, a small thing she would do whenever the boy was rambling to her about one of his favorite things all while she just watched him with a small smile on her face.
However, something seemed to be off with the way he was staring back at her. It wasn't like normal and was enough to make her flinch slightly from how harsh and cold it looked. It was like he was disgusted by her, the very look making her heart drop and her whole body grow ten times colder.
"Bill?" she whispered again, but the boy merely snarled in response before turning away.
"I-I-I was running away f-f-from you for a reason. C-C-Can't you take a hint?" he asked harshly, the words shocking Y/N to the point where she stumbled back slightly.
"I'm sorry. What?" she questioned, her voice as small as she felt.
"You h-h-heard me," Bill replied emotionlessly.
"I don't understand," Y/N muttered as Bill began to walk towards her, the look in his eyes making her instinctively take a step back. "Why would you-?"
"R-R-Run from you? What? W-W-Were you expecting me t-t-to embrace you with open arms? D-D-Declare my undying love f-f-for you?" Bill asked, the last question making him laugh so hard that Y/N felt her heart break.
Y/N's eyes began to water and she swallowed thickly. "N-No. . .I just thought you were here to save me," she whispered, still confused about where this attitude towards her was coming from.
"W-W-What? You think I c-c-care about you enough to s-s-save you? That I maybe l-l-love you? I could n-n-never love you, Y/N. I mean, ha-ha-have you seen yourself? I'm b-b-better off with s-s-someone like Beverly th-th-than you.
"You. . .you don't mean that," Y/N whispered, her voice cracking slightly as she backed up, not realizing that Bill had circled her so that she now had her back to the cliff of the quarry and was beginning to walk towards the edge.
"I'm g-g-glad you're stuck down here. Ev-Ev-Everyone is actually. W-W-Why do you think it's t-t-taken so long for even m-m-me to show up down here?" Bill questioned, ignoring her previous words.
"If you're happy, then why are you here?" Y/N asked, a few tears escaping her eyes as she struggled to keep it together. Her body was shaking at this point and Bill seemed to notice from the cold and amused laugh he sent her way.
"Oh, Y/N, f-f-for one reason and one r-r-reason only," Bill replied, stopping short and causing Y/N to stop walking as well. She didn't seem to notice that she was on the edge of the cliff now, one more step meaning she would plunge over the side. Bill smirked at her, sending shivers down her spine.
"To m-m-make sure they finish the j-j-job."
Then, before Y/N could even process what was happening, Bill had reached out and shoved her, the action causing her to fall back and over the cliff.
It was like everything was happening in slow motion as she began to fall. Her hand flew out, desperately trying to reach Bill as she fell back. The air was filled with her scream as the stomach dropping feeling of falling hit her all at once.
And all she could see was Bill staring at her from the cliff, a smile on his face as he watched her fall into the murky water below.
Y/N hit the water with a loud splash, the force of it all knocking the breath from her lungs and causing her to gasp and inhale the disgusting water that surrounded her.
All she could see was black as she tried to claw her way out of the murky water. It took a minute but she finally broke the surface, a loud gasp escaping her lips as she wiped the goo from her face and coughed to expel the liquid from her lungs.
Laughter could be heard and the sound of Bill's laughter hit her so hard that she shook from fright and begin to cry. She didn't understand what was happening, but something like this had always been one of her biggest fears.
Bill leaving her was one of her biggest fears.
Y/N finally brought herself to look up at the cliff and she let out a gasp and fell back in the water a little once she saw that Bill had been replaced by Pennywise, the laughter in the air being nothing but a mockery of the laughter of the boy she cared about.
She wanted to be relieved that Bill hadn't been the one to do those things, but it was like the fear in her body only increased tenfold once she had realized it was Pennywise.
Y/N was crying harder now and she turned and quickly began to try and swim out of the water. However, she hadn't gotten far before the laughter suddenly stopped. Y/N froze and looked back over her shoulder to find that the cliff was now empty. Pennywise no where to be seen.
Y/N's breathing was erratic at this point as she frantically looked around her, but she froze instantly once she heard what sounded like a groan coming from the murky water. The girl slowly turned around, her eyes widening at the sight of a hand covered in decay and the goo of the water shooting out from the surface.
Another hand soon followed and before Y/N knew what was happening people were starting to break the surface of the water, their attention on her. Y/N let out a gasp once she realized they were all messed up versions of her friends, each of them looking like zombies as they groaned and began to swim near her.
Y/N let out a cry of horror before turning and swimming as fast as she could. She was almost to the shore when a hand grabbed onto her leg, nails as sharp as knives digging into her calf and making her cry out in pain.
Y/N looked behind her and screamed once she came face to face with a rotted version of Will, bugs crawling out from his mouth as he yelled at her. Another hand grabbed onto her arm before another one grabbed her other leg. In a matter of seconds, a rotted version of Will, Dustin, Ben, and Mike were trying to drag her under the water, their hands clawing at her and scratching her so bad that she began to bleed.
She was full on sobbing and screaming at this point and she desperately kicked and pulled away from the boys as she watched the other rotted versions of her friends swim closer to her. Somehow she managed to kick rotted Ben in the face, the action shoving the boy back into Dustin so that they both had to let go of her.
Y/N took the chance to yank her arm away from Mike and kicked Will in the stomach before she desperately turned and lunged for the shore. Hands tried to grab at her, but they did nothing more than scratch her before she pulled herself out of the water and away from their grasps.
Y/N scrambled onto her feet before breaking out into a sprint, ignoring the pain in her legs as blood trickled from her wounds. She managed to look back once to see It standing solely in the water before she turned back around and entered the woods once again.
The young girl didn't know where she was going as she ran, only ever thinking about how she had to get out of there while tears streamed down her face. She was just about to turn when a demogorgon jumped out from behind a tree, a scream escaping the girl's lips while the eerie sound of the demogorgon filled the air.
She turned to run the other way, but another demogorgon appeared, its face opening up like a flower like the other's as its whole body shook from the sound it produced.
Before Y/N knew it, she was surrounded by demogorgons, the creatures circling her so that she had no where to go.
Y/N had never felt as helpless as she did in that moment, the creatures in her nightmares stalking around her like she was their next meal, which maybe she was.
A helpless sob fell from the girl's mouth as she hugged her body. She shook her head and whispered, "Please, no. God, please, no."
As if hearing her words, the demogorgons suddenly stopped and stood straight up, doing nothing more than blocking her from escaping. This didn't change Y/N's demeanor at all and another sob shook her body.
But then Pennywise was walking out from behind the demogorgons and into the circle they had created, causing the girl to scream and take a step back. The demogorgon behind her didn't like this and growled so that Y/N jumped forward to the middle.
The interaction made Pennywise laugh and he hopped from foot to foot before he was suddenly right in front of the girl, his face inches from hers as his dirty nails dug into her face. His eyes flickered over her and he grinned before whispering, "Tasty, beautiful fear."
Y/N couldn't help but be afraid as she stood there, another soft cry falling from her lips as more tears escaped. "Why?" she managed to whisper. "Why me?"
"Cause you're important," Pennywise replied almost immediately. "You fall and so do the others."
"Please don't," Y/N whispered as she struggled against the clown's grasp. Her pleading cries doing nothing but make the clown smile more. "Please."
Pennywise grinned evilly, drool beginning to fall from his mouth as he stared at the girl. "Hungry," It merely said, the demogorgons making sounds that almost sounded like they were agreeing with the clown.
It's mouth opened slightly and Y/N quickly closed her eyes as a whimper left her lips. She had never felt so weak and helpless in her life, but it was like all of her courage had been sucked out of her after having seen Bill push her off a cliff and her rotted friends trying to drown her.
When death didn't come, Y/N opened her eyes and locked on It who was staring behind him blankly as if he was sensing something that she couldn't.
The clown frowned before looking back to Y/N in what looked like frustration. He took a finger and drug it down her face, his nail drawing blood and causing the girl to wince in pain.
"I'll save you for later."
Then, before Y/N could question what exactly he meant and what he was going to do with her, his mouth began to open up. Y/N's eyes widened and she desperately tugged against the clown's grasp until It put both of its hands around her neck to hold her in place.
It was going to fucking eat her. It was going to fucking eat her.
A light suddenly seemed to come from the clown's mouth and Y/N tried to look away, but It held her so that she was forced to look into its mouth. Y/N felt herself relax almost instantly at the sight before her, her body going limp although her mind was screaming at her to fight.
The last thing she saw was three bright balls of light before everything went black.

rolled my ankle dropping off my ballot, on the way out - at the expo center, where on primary day after discovering the county clerks weren’t hosting drop boxes despite what the website said, I raced to beat the 6pm deadline along with many others. then, I had barely any gas in the tank (when I left today I was at 69 mi to empty, so that’s a kind of consistency) and I was afraid of getting stuck in traffic and running out, so I parked in the very back of the expo lot. I walked up through mostly-empty roads, toward the crossing where cars were still pouring in and pouring in as quickly as they could, and people with megaphones shouted how many minutes were left and I started jogging, because I was lucky to be able to jog. all I needed was to get in and put the thing in the box, and I did. winded a bit leaving, hoping that everyone still streaming would get in. sat in my car for a while waiting for it to die down, so I could leave without the same gas problem happening, and refreshing twitter then or at home found literally moments after I’d gone people were pounding those same doors, begging to be let in; eventually, after a half hour or more, those who had stayed were permitted to vote.\
today I parked in the back, but not all the way. the same blue sky behind the rollercoaster at kentucky kingdom marking the way in, then turning into the back lot but parking in the first row of it, still far away because I remembered after it was only the north entrance you could get in. but this time I did have time. once again: box right by the door; I was inside maybe fifteen seconds. in kentucky you don’t have to personally drop yours off, so I took micah’s parents’ too. when I came out, two different men in cars asked me where it was you needed to go to vote, and right before the first one was where I stepped at the base of a tree’s mulch ring and nearly fell over. I’d thought it was better to walk on the grassy divider, away from people, but my balance disagreed. shouted through my mask, at the bluish-green grass, because it was hard to understand each other even though there was little noise; just my mask, his half-rolled window, a good sixplus feet away from each other.
after that, I got in my car and sat there. the cars just kept coming, in bursts probably correlated to crittenden traffic or the highway exits ramps, and part of it was procrastination because I needed to go to the grocery but I hadn’t really made a list and did not particularly want to go. the other, larger part was the breeze through the crack in my window, the bright blue sky, and the marvel of busy society going in and out and on, and on, and on. there’s something nostalgic about that, bubbling up in me. didn’t much look at my phone, just - watching. we’re all still going to the grocery, and I saw people coming and going at aldi’s and kroger’s both after, but it’s antagonistic to be there. get six feet away, don’t you see the one-way aisle signs, why the fuck aren’t you wearing a mask but do I look not-queer enough to say so to you without getting hatecrimed for it, etc. people-watching from the mall foodcourt is not at all the same thing as shopping at a store there. it’s not better or worse so much as it is a kind of distant socialness I have not experienced in much longer than the pandemic, probably.
now I’m listening to a mancini vinyl (soundtrack: return of the pink panther) I got for cheap yesterday. more to be said, maybe, on how every time enter a public place for gas or food or whatever true necessity I have this moment of unreality, like it can’t be real that we’re all wearing masks and what I have accepted is true for me is somehow also true of every other person, or should be. wish the vinyl was the first movie instead because I don’t love late Side B and furthermore I think the sound design is either a little too mono or a little lazy compared to the artful precision of the early colubmia orchestral stuff I started listening to vinyl with.
