I swear I can't to get these SAFT books next at the end of the year and throughout next year. These are the books I've been waiting for, not only because they haven't been covered in the anime, but they contain MAJOR development for what's next for Anne and Shall's love story!!!

It’s official, Hugh is my favorite side character

I feel for Hugh, becoming part of a system that probably once shunned him or refused to acknowledge him. In the LN, it's mentioned that he was once a street urchin who then entered the sugar workshops and climbed the ranks to silver sugar viscount. With this came more power, but also more responsability and... well, a certain expectation to conform to the rules and uphold them, even if he disagrees.

Essentially, trading freedom for power.

The first example was when he had to stand aside while William Albarn's castle was raided, unable to convince his former friend to give in or the army general to be lenient. All he could do was obey the orders, even if it pained him.

The second was as he mentioned himself this episode: he did make the Chambers crest once, but his current position forbade him and he destroyed it in the end. It shows on his face he seems to regret it, that it probably did not align with his own desires.

And that's why Anne's character is so important. Many times in SAFT, she faced situations where people expected her to conform to the rules or her profession or the church (no making sugar sculptures since she's a woman, no recreating the Chambers crest), and yet, she never yielded, even if that meant danger for herself.

Her conviction to do what's right gives her the freedom so many other characters don't have, but her passion and optimism are what give her power to change those around her, and, in a small way, the world.

Essentially, power and freedom.

I hyperfixed on an unpopular ship in an unpopular fandom. Absolutely nothing about these two on the internet. And what did I do? Made content for myself, of course!

It's not that the main couple of anime/light novel is bad. Ann for her sugar craft will go into fire and water, and Shell will go after her...

But I like the ship dynamics of these two a lot more. I can't wait to see them interact live in the anime. Technically, it was in episode 13, but we didn't see it. In the light novel, this moment is also not shown.

Initially, I was neutral about the anime, but only because of these two I read the entire light novel. It was in the most clumsy translation (thanks, Siri, Alice), but the meaning was not so difficult to understand. (Except for the moment of the last chapter; or, perhaps, I deny such an ending for these two)

(I'm crazy about these two, but I have a lot of fun).

And...

...Hugh's attitude towards the Kat is unacceptably sweet.

They are really childhood friends, they literally spent most of their lives together in Mercury's workshop. Therefore, they are more likely close friends or old brother/young brother to each other.

I doubt that the Kat hates or despises Hugh. They obviously quarreled throughout the light novel. However, they treat each other with great respect as individuals and artisans.

The light novel doesn't specifically mention why they are at odds at the start of the story, but I'm assuming it's because of Hugh's decision to become a silver sugar viscount.

Because Alph asked Hugh run a silver candy store together.

Translations for the series seem to have been dying out a bit recently (unless anyone can point me out an active translator out there, that'd be fantastic!), and I'm having a hard time finding the raws online.
