🦈 the boys are scheming
Ramble under cut!
Killer: based on the Black-tipped Reef Shark and a Thrasher Shark. His tail is long and whip like but you can’t appreciate it’s length bc it’s out of frame. He uses it to give his prey a concussion.
Horror: is a whale shark because he is a big softie, a gentle giant. I can only have so many octopi, and next to a shark of some kind that’s my second choice for him.
Dust: manta ray. My logic behind this choice works like this; hoodie = soft + covers you = blanket. Blanket + fish = stingray. Manta Rays don’t have stingers. But I gave Dust one anyway.
Dream/Molt: I was torn between a classic fish tail for him or something with tentacles. So I drew three forms for him. his designs are loosely inspired by cuttlefish and a specific killifish I’ve lost the name of.
Because Molt’s goop is tied to his role as a Guardian of Positivity of the multiverse, I was torn about whether not his mer-form should be goopy. I’m still indecisive about this.
If we went with his cuttlefish form, just like real cuttlefish he would be able change the color and texture of his body and tentacles. He can’t change the color of his bones or magic, of course.
This also one of the few AUs that you get to see the damage done to his ribcage. If only bc he doesn’t have three layers of fabric to hide it.
Regardless of the kind of mer-skele, Molt steers clear of deep open water. The scars across his ribs are a literal beacon in the dark, as his magic glows, and are just as likely to attract a predator as they are to attract curious small fish. As dusk falls, Molt hides himself away in caves and crevices in the reef or cliffs. He is a day time hunter by choice, but his brother still prefers to hunt at night.
Nightmare/Rem: i had two ideas for Rem, Octopus or Orca. Orca, because of the general importance that family plays in their social dynamic. And Octopus for classic fandom interpretation reasons.
If we are using the octopus type mer for Rem; like his brother, he can change the pattern and color of his body but not his bones or magic. Though he can change his color to almost any hue he wants, he prefers dark colors.
The dark markings on his bones may or may not be natural, and may or may not be caused by the same incident that nearly shattered his brother’s bones. :)

Aquarium AU —> ✨MerEclipse✨
MerEclipse is a giant octopus mermaid/ceceliae, their full design is here
First, some character backstory and world building:
Sea people have been fighting against Humans for centuries, and Eclipse was one of the strongest warriors
Tumblr media
They were the infamous sea monster, they chase away the intruders who dare come across and protect their people
Tumblr media
But unfortunately, the sea people lost the fight, humans hunt them down till almost extinct, the ones who survived live in the shadow far away from the land
Tumblr media
During the war, sea people developed implantable technology to help them win the war, it worked well but also destroyed them from inside
(Okay so I’m not good with words if this doesn’t make sense please tell me I’ll try to explain)
Tumblr media
Eclipse didn’t die during the war they got pinned to the bottom of the ocean, and trapped there until one day their power runs out
Tumblr media
Note: *this is before the two got captured by the aquarium, so they’re still in the ocean at this point!!
Tumblr media
That day, they big guy made two friends
Tumblr media
Eclipse often tell stories of their past
Tumblr media
this is where Moon’s pirate(?) obsession came from
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The two haven’t seen Eclipse since they got captured and they miss their old friend)
This has been laying in my google doc for too long finally I have the energy to draw em
Aquarium au isn’t over I’ll take a small break and get right back to it :-D!

What kinds of merpeople the Termina Contestants would be
(already shared these thoughts on twitter, might as well share them here too)
Pav's a lionfish because they're invasive, they move their spines in a way that's similar to peacocking, and they have venomous stings.
Tumblr media
Marcoh's a mantis shrimp because they punch the shit out of their prey. Simple answer.
Tumblr media
Daan's a moon jellyfish because of Blank Soul, how they're the most common jellyfish for others to pluck out of the wild for a pet (but often kill them due to them needing specific tanks), and... moon and all... :3
He'd also be really cute as a jellyfish. I'm biased.
Tumblr media
Abella's a giant pacific octopus because they're incredibly smart and strong. Also the red reminds me of her hair and it'd be fun to imagine her using all her octopus arms to tinker with stuff.
Tumblr media
Olivia's a leafy seadragon because of how they blend themselves into the plant life they make their homes. Mermaid Olivia wouldn't be able to swim strongly but I like to think of her grabbing onto plants to help move herself around in kelp forests. :D
Tumblr media
Levi's a spotted garden eel because they live in these little sand holes (trenches :3c) and are rather shy. They can however get used to certain presences such as people in aquariums. I recommend looking at the Sumida Aquarium story.
Tumblr media
O'saa is a yellow boxfish because yes yes yellow mage, but these fish also can release deadly neurotoxins into the water which is basically hurting if you think about it.
Tumblr media
Samarie is a gulper/pelican eel because I was obligated to make her a deep sea fish and it reminds me of Dysmorphia. Also she'd be a cute eel mermaid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tanaka is an oarfish due to them being known for being found dead or dying in shallower waters before earthquakes or tsunamis. Literally the opening kill as a fish. So sorry Tanaka lol.
Tumblr media
August is an Orca because of their hunting tactics being so brutal and said hunting tactics being passed from parents to children in a pod, making different pods having different tactics and cultures. Like how Rag's influence can be seen in August.
Tumblr media
Karin is an orange-lined triggerfish because of how territorial and aggressive they are despite their appearance. They often catch new salt water tank owners off guard by how willing they are to throw down.
Tumblr media
Caligura is a goblin shark because it's a deep sea fish that feasts upon bottomfeeders. I also refused to let Caligura be a fish that even I could find cute. :3
Tumblr media
Marina is a clownfish because the anemones are kind of like a warding sigil and she's a silly billy among the horrors at times. :3 They are also one of the tropical fish to be able to change from male to female. They are also my favorite childhood fish. Someone had to be one.
Tumblr media
And finally, Henryk is a blue angel because despite how they look, they will poison the shit out of you and it will be painful and suck so much. Not worth touching.

Mer!Shigadabi Au things~
Language barrier
Dabi: lionfish + black tipped reef shark hybrid
Shigaraki: giant octopus + stonefish hybrid
Dabi has two internal claspers that make an appearance when he's properly ~stimulated~
Romeo and Juliette coded
Dabi's reef: nearly no culture because they are always hunting for food to feed the huge population on their reef. Their entire society is built around making themselves smaller so that the esteemed hunters can protect the reef and fatten their food stores enough to avoid the famine they are always on the verge of.
Shigaraki's reef: way more unique culture, especially sports, music, and history, but that's because merfolk eat each other there and any humans who crash their ships along their reefs.
You know what, it's also Beastars coded tbh

Weretober 2023 - Part 2: Lives of the Werebeasts of Urvara
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now, to cap off Weretober 2023, the final batch exploring the lives of Werefolk in my setting of Beast Fables. From assassins to soldiers to ronin to nasty diseases, there are many sides to being a werebeast in Urvara!
A famous Were-Tarantula Hawk assassin readies for combat against a berserker were-shrew.
A were-sea lion stumbles upon a rare find: a black pearl! Surely this will give her clan honor! Unbenkowest to her however, she is being watched by a couple of merfolk. The Mer-tiger shark wants to "deal" with her, to keep their society a secret, but the Mer-octopus urges caution instead.
For most people, a person's animal form is either from one parent or the other. In much rare cases however, one could get an animal form that's a hybrid of their parents's beast form! Walter Raja Surrey here is a Liger, and has all of the hybrid's advantages, without the myriad of health problems associated with them!
A member of the last group of Were-Diprotodons shows an archeology student and an art history student an example of a hunting boomerang, otherwise known as a karli. Alongside being both a great example of art and a useful tool, it's big enough to double as a club.
A werefox succumbs to that most feared of diseases among were-mammal kind, rabies. Certain were-folk, like werebirds can fight off the disease, while others like were-crocodilians seem to be immune to almost anything.
A were-rhinoceros beetle gets treated for cordyceps. While not the lethal, muscle and nervous system hijacker of their wild counterparts, it still hurts, and requires immediate attention, lest it begins to interfere with the magics governing transformation as well as tissue damage.
A traveling group of were-elephantines, including a mammoth. While giants to a regular person, they themselves are dwarfed by the creator of the roads they travel upon, called the Titan Roads. These roads were built by Were-sauropods.
A turbulent priest preaches the cause for justice, and the betterment of society as a whole. A priest of the Ten Faced God, he dons the silver and black to denote his devotion to the face of Justice.
A were-raccoon dog ronin thought his speed and agility would win the day against the lumbering were-eremotherium, who himself is in service of a large empire known as Tartessos (basically Not!Spain). The risk the ronin took was calculated, but BOY was he BAD at math!
And finally, the classic Werewolf. A Durroyan werewolf charges with a bayonet, steely determination in his eyes and faith that discipline will win the battle through. A Gevaudanois werewolf counter charges with tooth, claw and sabre in hand, confident that courage and ferocity will win the day.

what are distinguishing features of cuttlings?
i'm glad you asked (because it was fun to draw an answer) here is a list! This is comparing them to squids as that's what they're more closely related to, but comparing the three main classes of inkfish (squid, octopus and cuttlefish) they very neatly fit between squid and octopus just looking at characteristics. To put it VERY simply.
Tumblr media
The eyes are one of the most notable details in cuttlefish - while many squids can also have peculiar eye shapes and most octopus eyes are horizontal, many cuttlefish species have pupils that are shaped as distinct horizontal squiggles.
Tumblr media
Of course the pupil shape can also change a LOT, but the general shape is very iconic in comparison to the octopus rectangle/slit and the squids' more commonly rounded or oval-shaped pupils. Cuttlefish also tend to have naturally drooped eyes due to the position of their eyebrow ridges, which gives them a naturally distressed or sad look (if you're a squid or octopus looking at a cuttlefish through the facial recognition lens of being familiar with squid or octopus facial expression. Obviously, to other cuttlefish, this is just a neutral expression).
Tumblr media
Cuttlefish have a very similar shape to some squid, with 8 arms and two longer hunting tentacles with distinct clubs. However, their mantle is rounder and more flattened compared to a squid's pointed one, and instead of most squids' pointed and separated triangular fins, cuttlefish have one large frilly fin running around their mantle. This is a very flexible and muscular skin flap that is also a lot floppier than most squid fins; and instead of being two fins on the sides of the head, it's one connected fin that loops around thinning down around the top of the mantle and gets more prominent going down.
Of course, the shape of cuttlefish and especially their fin makes them much worse at super jumping than squid are, which in the past has resulted in some turf war bias; not to mention their cuttlebone being much wider than the gladius of a squid makes them unable to squeeze through tight places like squids can. So, presumably, cuttlefish are naturally worse at turf war than squids are... but ARE they? They are a LOT better at maneuvering their swimming direction than squids are, that's for sure. AND they actually camouflage better due to their extremely sharp color changing and coordination skills!
Tumblr media
When it comes to tentacles, cuttlefish tentacles are similar to those of squid, but they are flatter and wider and this is a theme you'll notice with a lot of Cuttlings. They are very similar to squids, but parts of the body are often flattened and more loose, and also wider. This is true for their fins, internal shell, tentacles, and even their head.
Cuttlefish suckers are also much smaller than those of squids, with their head tentacles usually being flat and curly with tiny suckers dotting the inside. The inside of the tentacle is less pigmented as it typically is in squid as well, but in cuttlefish, the line separating the parts of the tentacle is much clearer with there usually being a notable rim of frilly skin overlapping into the inside. This is especially true with larger species, and species with large fins.
Tumblr media
The hunting tentacles of cuttlefish function about the same to those of squid, except the clubs are usually rounded as opposed to pointed or elongated. The clubs are also sometimes surrounded by a frill, similar to the fin on the head, and the suckers are clustered together in rows. The club suckers are usually bulbous and rounded with small openings, and look relatively harmless; however there is a small ring of denticulation (teeth) within each one. These teeth are very small and unlikely to cause damage or even to break skin in most cases; compared to a lot of squid suckers which have large, protruding chitin teeth several centimeters long or even giant curved hooks, cuttlefish suckers are mostly kind of cute.
Tumblr media
Finally, comparing the average limb of a cuttlefish to that of a squid, they are similarly shaped with the same number of fingers but have some differences. An obvious difference is the frill on the limb of the cuttlefish, where squids typically have a less pronounced line with less skin overlap, as well as the dimensions of the fingers. Cuttlefish fingers are usually shorter with rounded tips and small denticulated suckers, whereas squid fingers can be more elongated and the sucker teeth are usually very obvious whereas cuttlefish sucker teeth tend to be hidden from the naked eye in a lot of cases. Some squid can also have claws or hooks on their fingers, which is a luxury (?) that cuttlefish do not get.
Other differences: cuttlefish tend to favor crustaceans as their food of choice, where a lot of squid prefer fish. Unlike squids which are extremely social, cuttlefish also tend to be less social and do just fine alone or in small groups.
Finally, cuttlefish also have naturally very "high-resolution" chromatophores, and tend to be VERY GOOD at cycling their colors rapidly and creating patterns. While their patterns are much simpler than those of oceanic cuttlefish, it's not uncommon to see cuttlefish sporting casual gradients, or manipulating their stripes to resemble flowing water; this is an ability that can make them look nearly invisible while moving in a body of ink and closing in on enemies.
Another peculiar thing about cuttlefish patterns is that different cuttling species tend to have VERY distinct natural patterns from each other, and these do not change much. This is because anatomically, a lot of cuttlefish species look almost identical save for their patterns... something a lot of octopuses also deal with, but squids rarely do! These distinguishing patterns of cuttlefish are very persistent; from the bolder more standout stripes of common cuttlefish to the VERY distinct patterns of kisslip cuttlefish and the much smaller outlined striping on giant cuttlefish, there's a lot of stripe variation. And of course, the natural stripe placement is unique to each person. Think zebras.
Main draw: visually, cuttlefish are pretty much squids that are wearing an octopus coat, or octopuses that are trying really hard to be squid. Of course the truth is that they are neither of these things, as cuttlefish are just a totally separate secret third thing. But hey, we're talking visually, and seemingly. Not objectively, it's not scientific. But yeah.

Flared Fins Mer AU Lore Dump
You can find the fic on tumblr and on AO3
Character Breakdowns:
Wind: 8 (Pup) - Tropical Mer
Adult coloring will be Orange with light blue splotches, like a koi fish’s pattern
Fun fact: He and Warriors are, in fact, very distantly related.
Hyrule: 13/14 (Juvenile) - Octopus Mer
Adult coloring: Green with golden freckles all over him
Fun fact: His healing magic is not as strong in this fic, or at least not as developed. Most of his magic
Wild: 15/16 (Juvenile) - Deepsea Mer - Adult coloring: Dark blue with teal lines. The markings on one of his arms are strangely more of a green color, for some reason
Fun facts: His fins are bioluminescent (and his markings as well, when he gets older.) He has giant fins that are good for threat displays but are very delicate. He’s a better fighter then Hyrule, but being in more fights leads to him having a lot of torn fins. Due to being a deepsea Mer, who would naturally have less opportunities to eat, he metabolizes his food well and doesn’t need to feed as often.
Four: 16 (Juvenile)  - Tropical Mer (Based off a beta fish)
Adult coloring: On one side is green fading to red on the fins, the other is blue fading to purple. As a juvenile, he only has the split green and blue
Fun fact: Four absorbed his twin in the egg, which is why his colors are split down the middle. He is the most territorial in the pod. When he and Wild get to know each other, they like to flare their fins at each other to show off and get rid of territorial aggression. Four bites
Legend: 19 (Almost an adult) - Tropical Mer (Based off a Sea bunny, which is a kind of sea slug)
Adult coloring: Light Pink with red markings
Fun facts: He is courting Ravio (A purple sea bunny.) His tail ring functions the same as his pegasus boots, which is why he could catch Hyrule
Sky: 21 (Adult) - Tropical Mer (Based off the flying fish)
Coloring: Red with silver fins and small yellow marks
Fun facts: He is courting Sun. He has a giant pet Grouper called Crimson. (Sky: Crimson is friend, not food!) Crimson is nine feet long and can pull him along faster than most mers can swim. (Groupers really can get that big. They probably aren’t really that fast though.)
Twilight: 23-25 (Adult) - Tropical/Freshwater hybrid
Coloring: Dark green with gray underbelly and thick black marks
Fun fact: His colors are so much duller because of his freshwater ancestry. He can survive in freshwater for a lot longer than others can. Sometimes goes and hunts in nearby rivers. He has an orca tooth necklace that can turn him into an orca. Yes, the Orca is called “Orcie.”
Warriors: 25-27 (Adult) - Tropical Mer
Coloring: Royal blue with orange marks on the ends of his fins. HE has a kind of iridescence to his scales that most Mer consider very pretty
Fun fact: Warriors has a twin, Linkle, who is currently very lost, wandering around in deep sea Mer territory.
Time: Very old (Adult) - Tropical Mer
Coloring: White/silver with thin red and blue line markings
Fun fact: He is mates with Malon, who is a deepsea Mer. Malon prefers to live in the deep, but they visit each other often. Yes, it is weird that a deepsea Mer would take a permanent mate but Malon does what she wants. She thinks it’s very funny that her husband adopted so many kids, and dots on them when she visits.
Worldbuilding:
Very young Mer are called fry. They are a lot more competent than human babies, being able to swim right after hatching, but during the first year of their life, they run mainly on their fish instincts. Fry are not considered super valuable to Mer, because Mer may have up to 20 fry from one clutch of eggs. Very few of survive the fry stage. Often a pod will choose the best looking/biggest fry and focus their energy on them, leaving the others to fend for themselves. (They won’t be chased away or killed, and if one does make it to puphood by themselves, all the better. But smaller pods can’t afford to feed 20 new mouths at once when all of them won’t survive.)
Those that reach a year old are called pups, at which point they shake off the more intense instincts, and become a little more reliant on their guardians. At 12-14 years old, they become juveniles. They have a huge growth spurt, and they turn from their dull pup colors to their main adult colors. Pup colors are usually either neutrals (other than white) or a very desaturated version of their adult colors. They are considered adults at around 20, around which time they gain their makings. They stop aging at around 30 years old, but keep getting bigger.
Tropical Mer stay in their birth pods unless they get a mate and decide to go to their mate’s pod, or decide to try to start their own pods. There are exceptions though, where juveniles/new adults will leave their pod because they don't fit in well.
Mer “Species” are more vague categories. There are tropical, deepsea, fresh water, octopus, etc. Most of them can still interbreed with only a little difficulty, (as long as they can get over their different social practices) so they’re not really distinct species. (Thought sometimes interbreeding can be difficult to achieve, and sometimes those children turn out sterile, like Mules are)
Tropical Mer are territorial, but they do still interact with neighboring Pods and trade at designated market areas. They aren’t isolated. Deepsea Mer are solitary, and Octopus Mer are solitary/only share territory with mates. If you are part of a social species but do not have a pod, you are considered a loner.
For one reason or another, Time ended up taking each of the boys under his fin, so to speak. Four was abandoned by his birth Pod because of his strange colors when he became a juvenile. Twilight went exploring up a river where his Tropical Mer mother could not follow, and couldn’t find her again when he came back. Sky fell asleep as a pup and got left behind when his pod moved on. Due to being twins, Warriors and Linkle were small coming out of the egg, and their pods decided to focus more on their other fry. Warriors never really integrated himself into the pod after that and left early. Things like that.
Mer can’t breathe air. A typical adult Mer can hold their breath comfortably for about 30 minutes though, so they still like to sunbathe on beaches if they can. They have gills on their neck and sides of their chest. Water flows into the neck gills and out the chest gills. The mouth is just for vocalizations and eating. As long as their necks are in the water, they can stick their heads out of the water as long as they want. They have bad eyesight above the waves.
Mer have their own language that needs to be taught to children, but they also have more internal vocalization that does not need to be taught. These vocalizations can get across more specific messages than just emotions, but the meanings aren’t as advanced as language. If you spend a lot of time around a Mer, you will be able to pick up on some of their vocalizations’ more subtle meanings, like discerning “hello” from “good morning/evening/etc.”
Mer are mostly carnivores, and they obviously do not cook their food. They do not scavenge unless they are desperate, preferring to hunt for themselves. Sometimes they eat plants like kelp for variety, but that’s not essential. Mollusk type shellfish (Clams, oysters, ect) are good snacks but aren’t really filling.
Mer that are social sleep cuddled together and all intertwined, to keep themselves from drifting apart while they're asleep. (Less of a fear when sleeping in a cave, but in the open ocean? Many pods have been permanently split on accident because of currents moving them three miles apart in the night)
Hylians exist in this au and they know that Mer exist, but they don't interact much. There’s a language barrier, and Hylians can’t make the right sounds for Mer language and vice versa. There have been exceptions, where one species’ sign language is taught to a member of the other, but this isn’t common. Hylians are at the same level of development as in the LOZ games. They do not have modern science, etc

The Lusca
The Lusca is a sea monster said to live in Caribbean waters, especially around the Bahamas. The fearsome creature is said to look like a giant octopus with gigantic tentacles. Other traditions claim that Lusca is a chimera of octopus and shark, while others describe the monster as a dragon creature with tentacles and that Lusca is not an isolated creature but belonged to a large group.
Tumblr media
The Lusca, by SepiaLepus
This sea monster is said to be enormous, growing over 75 feet - 200 feet (c. 23m- c.61m) long, and some theories say that the Lusca can change its body colour like real krakens. The Lusca is usually associated with the blue holes on the coast of the Bahamas, with several sightings reported on Andros Island, where there are up to 50 blue holes in the sea. There, it is reported that fishermen, divers and others who approached the holes or swam in them simply disappeared, and so many thought they had fallen victim to the Lucas as food. But they are also said to have hunted down and sunk entire ships.
Tumblr media
St. Augustine "monster" of 1896 -presumably these are more the remains of a whale  (x)
What is striking is that, as with the Kelpies, there is no origin for the Lucas, even though a supposed Lusca was found on St. Augustine in 1896. Among the locals, however, the legend of the Lusca is considered folklore (as with the Kelpies), to keep people away from the blue holes, as they were very dangerous due to their nature and could and still can become a death trap.

Kaiju Week in Review (October 1-7, 2023)
Tumblr media
Godzilla: Rulers of Earth has evidently been a huge hit for Japanese publisher Phase Six, kicking off a lengthy run of translated and original kaiju comics. They'll be releasing the first 12 issues in a ReMonstered Edition hardcover on Halloween. It's ReMonstered because Matt Frank made some tweaks to his art, although he promises he "didn't, like, replace guns with walkie talkies." The real prize, however, is a new six-page story called "Thinking On Our Feet", starring Lucy Casprell, Kristina Sumres, and Varan! Longtime readers know that I am Not Normal about the Rulers of Earth lesbians and will probably have to import this reprint of comics I already own, as an English release for the six-pager is just a dream right now.
EDIT: @starestream points out that IDW is reprinting all of its Godzilla comics in giant Library Editions, and they haven't done Rulers of Earth yet. (Volume 1, which came out a couple days ago, gathers Gangsters & Goliaths, Legends, and The Half-Century War.)
Tumblr media
Legendary Comics launched a Kickstarter for hardcover editions of two Monsterverse graphic novels: Godzilla x Kong: The Hunter and Monsterverse Declassified. They've already vaulted over their goal, unsurprisingly. If you're content with paperbacks, the main news here is a little more information about the comics. Oh, and a glimpse of a new Titan on the cover of Monsterverse Declassified that the campaign studiously avoided naming. (Supposedly it's Abaddon.)
Synopsis for Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted:
A twisted Skull Island trophy hunter baits his trap and sets his sights on the biggest game of all deep within the Hollow Earth in the official prequel graphic novel to the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Synopsis for Monsterverse Declassified:
Discover the legends of four fan-favorite Titans - Doug, Behemoth, and Tiamat, plus one to-be-revealed Titan! Join Bernie Hayes as he takes readers down the rabbit hole to reveal classified Monarch secrets and ancient monster myths in the first-ever Monsterverse anthology!
Tumblr media
Godzilla: Here There Be Giants #4 has the series poised to end on a high note, bringing in the Giant Octopus in its final pages. (It's called Oodako here, which is a name I never expected to see in official media, seeing as it just means "giant octopus" in Japanese.) Amazingly, this is its first time fighting Godzilla, despite debuting in a Godzilla movie all the way back in 1962.
Tumblr media
If you live in the States and were hoping to see Godzilla Minus One in IMAX, bad news: Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is now opening on December 1 as well, and IMAX preorders for it have already started. Godzilla's taken on a Queen B before, but concert films are suddenly box office gold (Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is poised to open with $125 million domestic, higher than any 2023 superhero movie). The subtitled period piece doesn't seem to stand much of a chance, Godzilla or not. Still, keep an eye out.
Tumblr media
A black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla called SHIN GODZILLA:ORTHOchromatic will play in a handful of Japanese theaters on the last weekend of October. I'm guessing the film has been regraded (the announcement mentions that Shinji Higuchi and AD Katsuro Onoue supervised the project), so changing the settings on your TV won't perfectly replicate it. But it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a plane ticket.

Miquella Hunt Part 2: Limgrave
Tumblr media
So this is where we get into the meat of this Miquella hunt; I've marked on the map where I found Lilys, or any other relation to Miquella with colored markers and numbered labels!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. A St. Trina's Lily is right beneath the spirit guiding statue that leads to the Stormfront Catacombs (on an entirely separate note, I believe these statues are called Rosus because later on you can get the Rosus’ Axe which looks strikingly similar to the statues. I could be wrong tho lol)
Tumblr media
2. At Agheel Lake in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins.
Tumblr media
3. This one is on the cliff just below the sight of grace right next to a sleeping Warg which is really cute lol But I can't help but wonder if this was one of the locations where you could collect Dream Mist, before it was ultimately cut from the game?
Tumblr media
4. These St. Trina's Lilys can be found on a cliff just below the Hound Evergaol overlooking the Weeping Peninsula
Tumblr media
5. Once again, in the same location but a little to the left lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Found overlooking the field before Fort Haight, and after the shooting star hits the earth when Radahn is defeated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. At the Mistwood Ruins where you meet Blaidd you can find 5 St. Trina's Lily’s here along with a sleeping runebear. You can also find the Axe Talisman depicting Godfrey in the underground chamber
Tumblr media
8. On the cliff below the path to Caelid guarded by more sleeping wolves/wargs. I’ve noticed that these guys really like taking naps/guarding the St. Trina’s Lily’s 🤔
Tumblr media
9. These ones are tucked away in the ravine before the Fourth Church of Marika and are guarded by a Runebear. The waterfall from above is actually coming from Stillwater Village.
Tumblr media
10. Hidden amongst the graves in the back of Stillwater Village.
Tumblr media
11. Nestled beneath the fallen ruins right before you reach Stillwater Village. These guys are not happy that I’m near this Lily lol protective godwyn mayhaps????🤔
Tumblr media
12. This Lily has an excellent view of the Divine Tower lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. Now these two areas are interesting: These St. Trina's Lilys are in the ravine that leads to the Highroad Cave where you pick up the Blue Dancer charm that depicts Malenia’s sword master! Makes me wonder if Miquella ever met them? 🤔
Tumblr media
14. On Stormhill next to a pond. Not pictured the Land Octopus that I killed lol
Tumblr media
15. Located right next to this giant-ass hole at the front of Stormveil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
16. If you go through the front gate of Stormveil and make your way past all the enemies and ballistas, you'll find the Lily's in the order of the pictures from left-to-right. Although the middle St. Trina's Lily's, next to the tree, are a little more complicated to get to, they are on top of the cliff where the ballistas fire at you as you make your way up the steps to the courtyard.
Interestingly enough, even though there are so many St. Trina's Lily's in Limgrave, there isn’t a single Miquella’s Lily anywhere to be found. My mutual made a joke that Godrick ripped out all of the Miquella’s Lilys cause he’s petty and insecure, which is both on brand and fucking hilarious 😂

PDA: New data acquired, Levia-Sun
(File name changed) " Sun"-"Sunny"
Leviathan-Class [REDACTED], Male, Adult
[not hostile unless threatened]
The "Rays" around [Sun]s head are actually "basking organs" used to absorb sunlight he floats vertically with them fully outstretched due to his size there are no creatures that would bother him during this time.
His "face" is only for show except for his eyes which are real. his head opens more like a clam shell or a venus fly trap.
Despite the initial appearance of his eyes he is not blind, he has secondary eyelids that prevents him from going blind during sun basking.
His irises show up when on deeper water such as the lava zone which he migrates from to the surface every two days to collect sunlight.
He uses the collected sunlight to regulate his body temp between zones and to cook his pray.
This is a mutation unique only to [Sun] as [Moon] dose not display the same behavior and even shows repulsion at this action.
[Sun] and [Moon] are the only [REDACTED] level of Leviathan. But corrupted alien data has potential evidence of a "Cross" class of Leviathan still out there [More data required]
Log Entry (User ID: Y/N)- when scanning the back of suns head I found foreign material identified as "alien" in origin making up 87% of his brains make up...I knew they where smart but I never would have guessed at computer level smart. Just what are they really? :End Log
New Mission Acquired [Collect Further Data]

UPDATE HE GOTS COLOR NOW, LOVE YOU ALL!

PDA: New Data acquired, Moon-umental
(File name changed) "Moon"
Leviathan class [REDACTED], Male, Adult
[Aggressive] - (File Altered) -[trust problems]
[Moon] has a bioluminescent light at the end of his "night cap" the light itself resembles a starfish in structure.
The "night cap" is like the head of a giant squid but extended. ([Moon] can move the end of his "Night cap" like a tentacle).
[Moon] also has an advanced camouflage ability like that if the mimic octopus on Earth. despite his large size he can blend in to any environment within seconds, he can even maintain camouflage when in motion.
Despite the many abilities [Moon] posseses pointing to him being a ambush predator, his hunting style is more activity aggressive mainly hunting other leviathan class creatures and predators.
Log Entry (User ID: Y/N)- [Moon] won't hunt Reefbacks despite them being the perfect pray animal. He will hunt Crab squids "rather violently" though.
Unlike [Sun]s migration patterns [Moon] drifts between any biome he likes, mainly frequenting the darker biomes as his eyes can only handle so much light.
[Moon]s Eyes are like that of a cat's when it comes to light reflection. In the dark they take on a red shine, but when in sunlight they are completely black lacking any shine or reflection to them.
Other than these traits he is much like as his brother physically, like the clam like structure of there face and the tech that makes up their brain matter.
Log Entry (User ID: Y/N)- After around 4 weeks of observing [Moon] and [Sun] I realized that they don't communicate vocally to one another even if they click and warble when trying to communicate to me.
I assumed it had something to do with the way their head appendages move and emote but after awhile I learned that it has more to do with the tech in their brains as my PDA kept picking up odd signals when they where near.
I wonder if I could learn to decode it enough to hold a real conversation with them?

Kraken Collective
"The Kraken Collective is an alliance of indie authors who have pooled resources to publish high-quality fiction while retaining complete creative control over our stories. We aim to provide a wide variety of science fiction and fantasy stories, all starring LGBTQIAP+ characters. From alien hunting lesbians to complex political fantasy, The Kraken Collective publishes queer SFF that will blow your mind away and leave you craving more. Although it begins as a simple cooperative between authors, we aim to grow into an unique publishing model capable of supporting queer indie voices everywhere in SFF. We are committed to building a publishing space that is inclusive, positive, and brings fascinating stories to readers. Cephalopods are fascinating and deeply intelligent creatures: masters of camouflage, brilliant escape artists, and underwater innovators–from the millimeters-long cuties to the kraken-like giants, they’ve impressed us with their constant ingenuity and creativity. In short, they are awesome. Just like us. We hope to create a kraken-sized cloud of ink through our stories and that, like an octopus hiding in its ink, you too can find refuge and solace in our worlds.”

DYB Publishing
Decolonize Your Bookshelf is a publishing initiative run by Dominique(also the owner of Paperbacks & Frybread) and Michael LaBorn. They are dedicated to celebrating and uplifting voices of Black, Indigenous and other marginalized communities. They aim to increase representation and accountability in publishing by highlighting books by underrepresented authors and helping authors write better representation in their stories. The first book they published is Alfajiri by Michael Laborn. This is a great book for anyone who wants to dip their toes into fantasy. It has a lot of great fantasy themes while being short and easy to digest. It was so popular that Laborn wrote and extended edition of the story.
