Neil knew something was wrong. They'd been fumbling around in the dark for a while, but all of sudden Andrew tensed. Neil had pulled away immediately, but Andrew yanked him back down.
"It's still a yes." He snapped, pushing Neil's hair back and leaning up slightly to catch his mouth. Neil let him, for a moment anyways. Until he felt Andrew tense up again, his grip tightened on Neil's hair. "Is it, Andrew?" Neil whispered, pulling away again. He didn't move off of Andrew, barely breathing as he tried to stay as still as possible.
Snarling, Andrew shoved Neil off of him, not watching where Neil fell off the bed. He yanked his clothes on and stormed out of their dorm. Neil knew better than to follow, so he got dressed and laid back down.
He didn't return for hours, Neil was barely awake when he heard the lock click. When he felt Andrew climbing onto his bed, his weight momentarily pushing Neil down as he moved over him. They didn't touch, but Neil could feel the weight of Andrew's stare just as heavily as if he'd laid an actual hand on him.
Rolling over, Neil met Andrew's stare. An open, silent invitation to explain. One that Andrew ignored. Instead, the blonde reached for Neil's arm. Pulling it out from beneath the covers. He pushed the sleeve down and stared at one of the bruises Neil earned from his tumble.
After rubbing a not so gentle finger over it, Andrew used the same arm to tug him closer. Neil followed the pull until his back was flush against Andrew's chest, the covers were pulled up around both of them. There was the weight of Andrew's arm curling around his waist.
Neil knew better than to expect a verbal apology, just as he knew that Andrew wasn't mad at him. He was mad at himself, he fought his own demons every day, and some days he lost those fights. Neil didn't hold that against him. If he did, if he said he wanted out, to be done, Andrew would respect that and immediately let him go.
Their relationship wasn't perfect, it never would be. It was raw and for the most part unshaped. They were learning how to be with eachother. But there was an unflinching trust. There was honesty. Andrew knew Neil would never push him too far or cross his lines, and Neil knew Andrew wouldn't intentionally hurt him. That Andrew would protect him just as fiercely as Andrew had fought to protect his family.
