See in my head, Dan Heng and Blade are hoyoverse's fave ocs in two different ways like hear me out

Dan Heng is the oc that gets all the art, they're the one that gets the most time to shine. The oc that gets doodled a lot and talked about a lot. Also for some reason gives similar vibes to the giddiness and love someone has for an oc they made years ago and are now rediscovering and making a ton of stuff for and redesigning them too like. Even if Dan Heng most certainly was made as apart of this project and didn't have that history of creator, he gives the vibes of an oc like that given how Hoyo treats him yknow?

Meanwhile, Blade is a classic favorite oc type, the Punching bag. Yanqing may take L after L in fights, but Blade takes L after L in life. He's Hoyoverse's whump king. Just when you think his backstory can't get any sadder, Hoyoverse goes "XD guys!! I added more details to his backstory look!" and it's just the most tragic things ever added from brainrot. He would be featured in those "My oc if they never went through *x trauma* videos on Tiktok" though if they actually did that, he probably would just be a headstone then lol. Blade is the oc that doesn't get shelved because each day at some point, they spend time to think about ways to make his life worst, either in the past or in his unfortunate future!!

And Hoyoverse is honestly so real for that, I'm absolutely eating up everything about both of their characters

I feel like she and aventurine being the younger people + under jade’s care is intentional for them to highlight each other’s characters. (even their primary colors are reversed broo… cuz like, aventurine is green and inverted color of green is red and that’s topaz).

Topaz in a gem itself symbolizes strength, wisdom and calming influence and throughout the story we can see her as a character who was reliable and calculated considering her conservative approaches to the challenges she faced in the quest.

This is a juxtaposition well played by hoyoverse to highlight their decision-making processes - which is a foundation for their character. Aventurine is a gambler. His life philosophy is well known with his iconic quote of “high-stakes, high-rewards”. In contrast, Topaz represents a more calculated approach, even voice line during combat was “low-risk, high reward”.

Aventurine’s appearance and demeanor are misleading. Even his smiles serves as nothing more than a mask to fool others. And his Avgin eyes contributes more to this enigmatic nature - such colorful eyes, yet so dull and devoid of life. Much like hiding a complex hidden world under his “brazen bravado” attitude and flashy outfits. This creates an ironic contrast between how he appears and the “extraordinarily faint self beneath.”

Conversely, Topaz is straightforward and transparent. As seen with her attitude in her quest in Jarilo-IV. She wasn’t afraid to tell her tale of her planet, she was willing to talk it out and came to a calculated conclusion. Topaz’s character is also seen as affectionate and caring, as she was willing to take such a huge price for the people of Jarilo IV - of being demoted even and her care for her little pets in her splash art (+numby). Her strength lies in her compassion and clarity, providing a stark contrast to Aventurine’s deceptive nature - making her a trustworthy figure that emphasizes the irony of Aventurine’s masked intentions.

NOW ONTO THE PART I WANT TO TALK ABOUT

THEIR REACTION TO THEIR PAST.

Aventurine’s past as a slave and his resulting inferiority complex drove him to prove his worth through constant risk-taking. To be fate’s test dummy. To be thrown and tested around. To seek validation from risks. His need to control his fate, yet at the same time threaten it and challenge the blessing reveals a deep-seated desire to overcome his history - to let go yet he’s still stuck because his life is bound to his curse. Although one could argue that the IPC “saved his life”, he would still bite. His life is of no value anyways - he was just a pawn. Such as how Jade would still refer to him as “Aventurine” and not Kakavasha, even though knowing that it was his real name. He was nothing but a coin to the slots. A chance to see if they can reap the rewards.

Topaz, however, focused on building strength and validation from the efforts she puts out as seen with her and the IPC. Her project with Jarilo IV has caused her some distress, even during the Penacony quest as she was still bothered about it. But the moment Jade affirmed her, it soothed her almost immediately. She needed to prove herself to the people who “saved her planet”, to thank them as they gave her her life value. Jade, however, referred to Topaz with her real name, Jelena. Seemingly almost as if she valued her as Jelena, a person, and not a pawn on a board.

Topaz serves as a foil to Aventurine by embodying traits that contrast sharply with Aventurine’s risk-taking and enigmatic nature.

IF YOURE GONNA HATE, UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU HATE FIRST.

Fenrir and Topaz would get along. I wrote him to be Aventurine’s foil after all, they have a lot in common. Even their designs are similar with the color red and bows and the waist belt lol. They’re so best friend coded.

Fenrir would hang around for Numby and Numby is awfully fond of the man. Sometimes Topaz would think that Fenrir is a secret warp trotter because how tf did you write a whole study on language of warp trotter. And also, they both like shiny things. So hell yeah.

they're referring to the eremites. couldn't leave sumeru without one last sprinkle of racism lmao.. fr love how this was one of the first things i saw in fontaine. "see something, say something." STFU!!!

the fontaine VAs fucking STEPPED UP!! like why is lyney's VA so good.. the decision to open the quest with three of the most off-putting and unnerving characters so far.. lyney truly sounds deceiving, it really felt like you couldn't trust him. and then lynette is just ominous

and then furina.. miss focalors, the star of the mf show. whatever they're paying the VA is not enough because she's incredible. bravado, insecurity, instability, fear, hunger.. all the emotions are portrayed so well

fr tho i loved the fact that we had a real prelude for this region.. i think the excuse to make something a little more isolated and establishing in it's plot is already super beneficial for whats to come. we got a lot more character exposition, and even the time to install these cool archon quest specific mechanics. i loved solving everything, it was all SO fun but they also got to have these really emotional beats, i feel this is some of their best pacing yet.

imo the last half of sumeru really helped hoyoverse find their stride, fontaine so far has similar storytelling energy to the whole heist bit of sumeru.

the best thing however might've been the SCORE??? they went out of their league with this one, it's the most fitting, noticable and influential instrumental work they've done in an quest imo

Hoyofam at award shows. [the mobile game awards.]

A couple months ago, HSR got nominated for mobile game of the year at the mobile game awards 2024. Along with the people’s choice and best storytelling categories. His sponsor and nominator; Genshin was helping him with his victory speech, and just overall helping him.

“UGH, why do I have to practice my speech…? I don’t even know if I’m going to win!” Hsr said, slumping on the table.

“And if you do win, you’re going to look foolish if you don’t know what to say in front of all those people. We don’t want a repeat of last year when you won the game award for best mobile game… Not to mention the other award you weren’t able to claim on stage because you were hiding in the bathroom…” Genshin said, reminding him how difficult it was to get him out of the bathroom that Genshin had to sedate him in order to get him home.

HSR could only groan, burying his head in shame.

Days later, the evening of the event arrived. The entire hoyofam was invited as hoyoverse got nominated for best developer.

The fam were getting ready, dressing up in pretty dresses and fine suits…except for the one person that’s supposed to be receiving most of the rewards…

HSR was ripping off the suit that they had just recently tailored for him. It was too itchy, he claimed. Too tight and suffocating.

“Why do I even try with you, anymore…” Genshin said, as he bought one of his own suits to lend HSR.

HSR disliked wearing new suits, and opted for just wearing the ones that Genshin has, since they’re usually worn down, with him using them so many times.

Genshin thought it was ridiculous, and that he would someday mature and grow into liking suits more… but alas seems his baby bro is too much of a man child…

Good thing Zen was being great, and actually wearing a suit to his first time attending an award show. Though… he might get blinded by all the flashing lights. But it should be fine.

Once it was time to go, the fam hop into the limo and drive off to the venue. At the entrance, paparazzi were getting ready to snap pictures of the fam, flashing lights everywhere. Genshin was the first to get out, then Honkai, Themis, Zen, and finally… Star. The lights were flashing sm that Zen had to hide his eyes to shield away from all the glare. Which will make hilarious and cute pictures of him to be posted online.

At their table, they were seated in the front row, sharing a table with kurofam. [Pgr and wuwa]

Pgr was sponsoring wuwa for game of the year.

“Raven.” Genshin said, greeting the gal. “Is that really wuwa…? He’s gotten… taller.” He pats wuwa’s head, surprised at how much the boy he used to babysit had grown up.

“I go by W, now. Just you wait… there’ll be a time where I’m taller, handsomer, and more successful than you!” W said, being cocky. Though it earns him a chop to the head by Raven.

“Sorry, he can’t help it, he was programmed to hate you.”

“It’s fine. I’m actually glad he’s doing better than all the other ones that were meant to ‘kill’ me.” He pinches W’s cheeks. “Good job, buddy. I really can learn a lot from you.”

W only yells at him, pushing his hand away.

“Gege… why do you put up with this pretentious brat…?” Zen asked, staring daggers at W.

“Well… if it isn’t snoozefest. Are you really part of hoyofam??? You’re a tad too boring aren’t ya?” W said, tryna pick a fight.

“At least I don’t need to attach my name to being an already successful games’ ‘Killer’.”

“You’re only famous because of your famil-“ Raven shuts him, by covering his mouth.

“I apologize… this is really just how he’s wired…”

“No need, I apologize for him as well.” Genshin said, looking at Zen, motioning him to apologize for his words.

He does so, and bows his head. Although reluctant and lacking in enthusiasm.

The event starts, and they all take their seats. Though SR should be grateful for the opportunity, he can’t help but feel a lil degraded, being matched up with an angry tween.

“So, you’re my opponent, huh?” W asked, but SR only ignores him. “My victory will be even sweeter once I know I’ve defeated Genshin’s brother.

Ah, there it is again… being referred to as ‘genshin’s brother’, again.

“You’re so going down.”

“I wanna go home…”

While yes the Fatui are a group of amazingly designed characters I cant forgive all of them, even Scaramouche is on the edge for me despite everything, I feel like I can relate to some of his trauma so thats why I dont like him lol

But Childe? He was dropped into the abyss, trained to kill at a very young age, and joined the Fatui to protect his family! If anyone is allowed to be simped for it should be him and Scarsmouche respectively! But everyone else can f*ck off!

I hope they kill off the rest of them, dont make them playable just to make the Genshin community hate on Hoyoverse even more LMAO

SPOILERS FOR THE CHASM QUESTS WITH DAINSLEIF and + long 😭💪

I AGREE SM WITH WHAT U SAID 🤬🤬 I just actually finished the chasm quest with dainsleif where he makes you fly around the chasm and I kinda hated it because I kept falling down 🧍‍♀️

BUT YEAH THE WHOLE QUEST MADE ME THINK SM about the supposed "curse" the people of khaenri'ah suffered and it made me think abt kaeya's eye 🤔 like what if kaeya is wearing up the eyepatch to cover up the fact he's been affected with said curse 😧

Plus if you really think abt it dainsleif also wears a mask that covers up half his face so we don't get to see it fully but just the fact they're both covering up the left side of their faces is so suspicious to me 🤬🤬 like you can't hide this from me hoyoverse 👍 here's the 4 eyepatch musketeers side by side, try to spot the differences 🤔

wAIT- the part where kaeya and dain covering the left part of their face to "hide" that maybe they are also infected by the "curse" the people of khaerin'ah are currently suffering makes so much sense especially after the picture u had shown showed that fischl and beidou's patch are on their right eye

aside from that, what if dainsleif isn't only cursed by being immortal but also to turned into one of those creatures unless he doesn't take off the mask that covers the other part of his face?? during the archon quest involving the chasm, dain was so close to "dying" at that time since maybe the curse is already starting to take over him?

what if kaeya knew all along that the moment he takes off his eyepatch, he's been "cursed" all along and the eyepatch serves as the barrier to prevent him from being turned into, as he still has a mission of being khaeri'ah's last "hope"?
