I've been following Hanza since back when they were making my deepest secret, so I've seen the development of the guy upstairs first hand and how hanza writes it. Even back in the concept stages, it was so blatantly clear that it was supposed to be a thriller/cat mouse vibe where Adam (killer) was horrible and not to be rooted for. They've compared him to irl serial killers and how those guys will often use women as shields to hide their true selves from the public and how that's messed up and bad to do.

They've shown Adam as a horrible irredeemable person and honestly there's little to no nuance with how they handle it, but that makes sense because how else can you handle an audience like what they've gotten without beating them over the head with the facts. How many ways can you outright show your main character despising and wanting to yank their best friend out of the jaws of a murderer before the audience realizes its not foreplay.

I think them going from an actual romance to a fully thriller non romantic story meant that the residual audience expected some kind of messy toxic romance, but Rozy to me has always explicitly read as Queer so idk why people aren't getting the hint.

I get their frustration and it seems like they might be shifting into a potiential issekai romance about a grandad and a middle aged woman who got reincarnated as his grandson's fiance (hard to explain but its hilarious if you want to check it out) without any thriller elements from their recent non comic posts. Whatever they do I hope they can find something to be passionate about again.

It's really baffling to me how people have gone so far in the opposite direction of "purity culture" that they've started arguing on behalf of legitimately harmful and toxic relationships. It's extremely concerning especially when you know the majority of people saying this shit are between the ages of 16-21. Aaaand yeah in relation to where the Hanza topic came up, that's really why I'm moving away from WT as an audience and why I don't consider it a "loss" to not use WT anymore. Once upon a time I wished for Time Gate to be a contracted series, for it to have thousands of readers and be my job. But seeing what's going on with Hanza's work just informs me that I'd be dealing with a lot of the same shit - people expecting Uzuki and Mitsuhiro to be the endgame of the romance when they're literally NOT good for each other, which is the POINT. Like sure, unlike the main duo in TGU, they actually are a couple with a 'relationship' but it's not meant to be healthy and the last thing I need are 15 year olds thinking they're "couple goals". If you ship them in fanfic or w/e the fuck that's fine but please don't get mad at me when they don't wind up being the endgame couple, they're both terrible people and make each other worse when they're around each other (・_・;)

Either way yeah, I don't blame Hanza in the slightest for getting so frustrated with it all that they'd rather just be done with it. It sucks for the more loyal and sane part of their audience that the series is gonna be ripped out from under them like that, but at the end of the day if the creator is being harassed and decide they're done as a result of it... why should they have to keep putting up with bullshit just for a comic? I don't even blame Rachel if she was ending LO by choice due to the noise of the fandom, and unlike Rachel, I don't have anything in the slightest against Hanza or their work LOL But I also don't have the full picture on it all so maybe my opinion will change if I find out more about it. I just don't think any of this shit is worth directly harassing a human being over.

That said, can't get any better than someone who's read their work since before TGU, so again, thank you !

Understand, most of these characters are people who wield tremendous power and who, out of the necessity of storytelling, makes really bad choices about how to wield it and wield it unilaterally over other people.

Like, Shen for example, good ol' mister Eye of Twilight, Keeper of the Balance and so on... also happy to just let people get Noxus Murdered because of spirit balances or whatever. Fuck that guy. Punch him in the dick. Nasus is too busy feeling sorry for himself in the desert to give a shit about helping the people he was once sworn to defend, Swain is a military dictator, Darius is the enforcer of military dictatorship, Garen and Fiora both aid and abet an ongoing genocide while Lux is a reprehensible centrist about it, Xayah and Rakan are terrorists targeting human civilians, Bard happily lets entire villages be slaughtered while he collects magic artifacts, Vex killed like hundreds of thousands of people during the Ruination... it goes on like this.

So yeah. Lillia is cute and good and deserves the world. Ekko and his crew have never done anything wrong, ever, and protect Zeri at all costs. Yuumi is baby. I'd try goat's milk to drink with Braum, and I'd love to share a campfire with Taliyah and her folks. Nami seems alright, Neeko would be fun to chat with, I wish to build a snowman with Nunu and Willump. Poppy is okay, but we don't know if she's on the mages' side yet, so, hm. Soraka is welcome at the party though!

And y'know what, Seraphine and Gwen can come too, they seem like they'd be baseline pleasant to have around.

i think the urge to find “mutual” abuse shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what power dynamics even look like lol theyre just discomfitted theres near zero openings for them to make a black male character out to be be a big brute and self insert into the fictional man of no color. louis is a master of language, and he never actually says ‘i love u, lestat’. people fixate on it for the wrong reasons, or misinterpret ppl pointing the fact that louis never said those 3-4 words as some false attempt at looking for “mutual abuse”.

louis is not withholding, but trying to claim some semblance of power thru his mastery of language. like @lynnenne said:

uncoordinated thoughts but I keep eyeing all these writer blogs lately talking about how you have to let your characters be problematic and awful and I'm very nodding along EXCEPT I feel like a lot of this shit is directed at ppl and acting like they're enforcing some puritan shit if they have the characters ask for consent and pronouns and apologize and w/e w/e in their fanfiction/fiction and like... buddy sometimes it's for the writer. sometimes when you're writing stories, it makes you feel better when ppl are OOC nice. This is a great question!!!! Personally, I look to the comments first and then the bookmarks. Not just quantity but the quality of it. I've felt just as much love and appreciation for fics that got 3 comments compared to 30. If something is low on comments or the ratio of views to kudos/comments feels really out of wack (which is something that's just increased over time), I'll look through the bookmarks to see if anyone has commented there.

(Why people are delightfully effusive in bookmarks but never say a word in the actual comments, idk.)

If I'm really feeling a need, I'll look at the daily kudos email for a boost. Just to give the reminder that for every bump up in hits, that's actually a real person who read the fic and enjoyed it!

I don't know if I have any tropes that I think are fine and overrated. The tropes I dislike are overrated because they're derivative, problematic, or just not to my interests. I can't think of anything that exists in that "it's ok" territory lmao.

I'd say a solid 8.5. It's something I put a lot of intentional effort and time to but there's always a lot of room for improvement.

Controversial take, I think they're overrated. I'll never forget being in conversation with someone who not only proudly admitted that they skim every fic they read, but that they prefer reading things under 2k because of quick and easy it is. Those kind of fics can be the fast-food of fandom and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, that mentality to me feeds into the dwindling attention span of what it means to be in a fandom now.

Nothing wrong with a one-shot, a long-shot, multi-chapter, w/e but underrated? Nah.

when it comes to ek's writing...well its telling that since we've gotten in to the content they've supposedly been working on for two years, people genuinely can't tell if their games/scripts are bugged and are going to forums/twitter for help. it's truly hard to imagine that a dev team would consider what they released up to part considering:

-how short the new updates have been - the most recent 'two chapter' update was about as long as each chapter of the split release because they missed another deadline (lol) and has no clear indicator of when the first chapter ends and the second begins or even a scene that would make sense as a chapter beginning/ending

-large swaths of recent chapters being entirely identical across multiple LIs including scenes that only make sense with specific routes (ex. for erik and maja's nomad route, the tavern scene plays out as if you romanced maja first and then choose the poly, even if you romanced erik first and haven't seen her in two chapters lol)

-basically no romantic content after officially starting a route (a few characters get crumbs in certain routes in the recent update but even that's like half of an already short scene) and no illustrations in the last two chapter update

-the lack of any clear path of where the plot's been going and where it'll end in the *checks notes* two chapters left to be released. at least in WTNC there was a very clear plotline being followed, tropey and problematic as it was. there's two chapters left in ek and i don't know who the primary antagonist is vs the secondary (or if there's a third), what their motivations are, there's no plan whatsoever on how to tackle them, no clarity on what's actually going wrong in the kingdom beyond bad vibes, the list goes on. its more like a collection of vaguely related scenes than an actual story.

i know they couldn't just quit on the game despite their clear lack of care for it, but barring a miracle in the final update there's a good chance they end up worse off from everything that's come out of them finishing it than they would have just abandoning it entirely. they've had to remove comments from itchio for both EK and WTNC to cover up all the complaints, and EK's steam page is getting tanked with bad reviews since its the only place to do it. i'm morbidly curious what their next kickstarter is going to look like post-EK, compared to call me under's which was done before people realized what it would mean for ek's quality.

You're 100% correct on everything AND I wanna say that the whole "yo wtf is the plot actually though" has been an issue even before they took the whole thing down to change engines or w/e. Like, I'm pretty sure it was up to chapter 5 -- or was it 3? -- when I last played it when it was still on Unity. And I remember thinking "Hey um ... So what exactly is ... wrong, in this errant kingdom? What's the plot? What's the actual conflict here?" and I thought how unlikely it was that they'd be able to scramble together not only a climax and resolution in the remaining chapters, but also wondered how they'd actually introduce an antagonist and actual conflict first.

And the fact that they had the perfect chance to fix the writing and plot when they took everything down and essentially started over, and DIDN'T do it? C'mon. They're scrambling to finish something they don't feel like doing at this point. I'm glad I never paid for any of their games (I got WTNC on Steam via a friend who had an extra key/a different friend who had it on itch.io and was willing to share the files, and EK through a charity bundle) but those who did probably feel hella ripped off by now.

I can't speak for other communities, but the ff rpc feels like it's become a lot more selective, private, and, idk a lot less friendly, open and warm? There's a definite, and very stark, difference between when I started roleplaying in it back in 2013ish, to even back in 2017, not to mention now. I don't know exactly what changed, and I know people still have fun (otherwise what's the point of being here, right?), yes people are older & have more going on, and I know there's been bits of drama with people over the years, but sometimes I really, really miss how it used to be.

People would do crack more often, it feels like people were more willing to do events or joint verses/AUs, try out new muses, stick around for a lot longer, there was a lot less focus on graphics & aesthetics, people would send each other world building questions or anons a lot more. Heck, I know some of them could be problematic as fuck, but Magic Anons were fun as fuck back in the day. Paine got turned into a potato once. I feel like a lot more people were willing to be stupid with their muses, be a lot more open to roleplaying with others within the fandom (and outside of it, I have many a happy thread memory with characters who were from different fandoms than my muse), if that makes sense? Which I guess is the point of crack, but w/e. I'm pretty sure it's me looking back with rose tinted glasses and a nostalgic sense of things, I wish the community was not only large enough to do these sorts of things, but also more willing? idk man, maybe the first step beings with me, but I just miss it.

I'm sure this has been said several times over, but those really tiny icons that are sized at, like 60x60, that have been so fried by saturation that it's almost impossible to actually see what the icon is. That really drives me bonkers and I don't even have any wrong with my eyes, so I can't imagine how it must feel for someone who suffers from visual impairments or those sorts of things trigger migraines or things like that. Thankfully, I think the rpc has gotten over this trend, for the most part, and a lot of people are reconsidering 'their aesthetic' for those that might be affected by this sorta stuff. But, every so often something'll pop up that'll remind me of it.

🔑 my favorite type of threads

Honestly, it really depends on the muse. For Anima, I really love the softer or more angsty type of threads. Her time in Guadosalam with Jyscal & baby Seymour, her and Seymour's exile and eventual pilgrimage, and then her joining with Yuna. I've really enjoyed threads with her post-X-2, but they don't hit the same. I think it's the same for Tromell as well, or most of my FF related muses & Shachath as well tbh? I feel like the majority my FF muses either aren't really the 'soft' types, and as such, their 'softer' moments are few and far between (Paine, Dona, Leblanc), which is why I love writing the softer moments for them, even if they're still being their normal selves. Or the majority of their plot lines are really angsty (Anima, Tromell, Zanarkand to some extent), and I really love exploring that in threads.

I'm throwing Shachath in here, more on the soft yet angsty side, because they only really appear when someone's dead, dying, or really considering their own demise. I've not written them in a hot minute, but it was really nice having those sorts of threads with people, regardless of how Shachath herself might've been summoned. And Zephyr as well, now that I think about it, cause I'd really like to explore more angsty stuff with her, especially in regards to her losing her sanity & her time at Castle Volkhair.

Maybe soft & angsty threads are my favourite?

And I also really like writing shippy stuff, more so the slow burn & day-to-day aspects of shippy things. But I haven't written anything revolving around shippy-things in forever. I've had 1 ship in all of my blogs, sob, not that I'm complaining or saying people should ship with me more, but I do miss writing it.

So, this is a response to this one anon who said they saw Zira as a devout follower rather than a lover of Scar and had their own theories about the father of her cubs (I think you said you believe it to be one of Rani's relatives?) because Tumblr is fun and ate their ask ugh.

What we know is the following:

Scar did not have a canon mate on screen and expressed absolutely no interest in having one. And no, I'm not counting him having a crush on Sarabi in the remake because the remake is garbage.

It is stated numerous times that Scar did not father Kovu. Yes, this is so it's not problematic for him and Kiara to be a thing but it further confirms that Zira's infatuation with Scar was probably one-sided.

Kovu was the last cub born in Scar's kingdom before Simba took it back and exiled his loyalists.

The whole script is a colossal mess because it's clear to me that Nuka, Vitani and Kovu were meant to be Scar's children by their designs and the frantic 'doth protest too much' additions to the script that Kovu isn't so he can hook up with Kiara, even though it's weird how Scar would pick this random cub that doesn't belong to him to be his heir. Though we only have Zira's word on this and she's obviously... Not all there. :c

And we have to accept that because yeah, nobody wants a canon incestuous Disney relationship on their hands and the writers wanted to do a Romeo and Juliet storyline so bad lol

So, yeah, I guess I've always seen Zira as just being a devout follower as well, even though the reasons for her loyalty are never fully established. If it's not because she was his mate, then something else needed to brought to the table. Unfortunately, it was not and the ages of her cubs complicate matters further. They're too young for her to have had a mate that Mufasa killed in some sort of dispute and they're too old for them to have been fathered by another male after they were exiled, as evidenced by point number 3.

Yes, people have theorised that Nuka and Vitani were fathered by Scar and they were overlooked for Kovu due to being too weak and a female respectively but it's still highly unlikely that Scar would pick a unrelated cub as his heir and Vitani is perfect and awesome and he was never established as a sexist either? That's the whole reason he recruited the hyenas: he knew that the lionesses would rally together and kick his ass ten times over without breaking a sweat. So, if Vitani was his daughter, I have no doubt she would've been picked as his heir over a Random McRandomlion's kid.

It's truly a set of affairs that has befuddled TLK fans and will continue to do so, because - no matter how much you swing it - there's always some major point of various fan theories that try and 'solve' this issue that still don't make a lick of sense. Unless our Romeo and Juliet couple (whether it be Kovu/Kiara, Kopa/Vitani, Vitani/Kiara or w/e) does not play into it, of course. Which seems a small sacrifice to make imho. Because that's truly the monkey wrench in this whole operation. oof

Which is a shame because Scar having a mate and followers and kids was a neat thing to explore and makes Zira a very compelling villain and it just makes me question if the Romeo and Juliet storyline was worth it in the end. You still could've had your Shakespearian link by making Zira a Lady Macbeth figure, which she very much is. It just doesn't seem worth it for all the mess it's created and the fandom frantically trying to fix it for 30 years lol

And that's just honestly how I feel about any theory that crops up about this. I can feel people are really trying to make it work... but it just doesn't because of what we know for a fact: that those kids were 100% meant to be Scar's. No question. - RJ

I mean I always knew how to handle people w/ mental health issues & soon enough became somebody people would come to & expose their problems & idk i always had the keys within me to understand things & then when i would check out what i thought was real things it helped me put words on the thoughts i already had in a sense? sooo i was really interested in knowing how people's minds works! I guess mostly in how there's a lack of communication sometimes and that OCs deserve a lot more love than they're given sometimes.

⭐️ My roleplay pet peeves

Being rushed and or guilt tripped to reply to things kajena I'm slow and get easily distracted since I have ADHD so like just be patient with me or else I'm just going to lose inspiration and not even reply. When people dictate how a muse should be written because they're don't write them exactly like in canon which by the way is impossible sometimes especially since we don't write these muses in the show or w/e.

🐠 Why I love (or hate) this hobby

I don't know if I really hate this hobby but it does come with its share of struggles. I want to give everyone a chance and I just want to have fun. I don't like the mentality of someone being the "best" at whoever they write because to me that makes it seem like the others who write the same muse aren't good enough so I just don't like that sort of commentary to be honest. To me you're good regardless of who you write because it's YOU who are writing it and there's not a wrong or right with these sorta things. Ultimately this is to be fun and enjoyable and I don't approve of making others feel like shit.

🦄 The best thing that's happened to me in roleplay this year

Uh.. I'm not sure honestly? I guess getting to explore some of my muses some more. There's still so much I wanna do though but that probably won't happen.

🚙 The one thing I will never do in roleplay

Probably the more problematic things like rape, incest, transphobia and things like that. I may make mentions of it because some of my muses do have some of these elements in their stories but I will never actively write it.

🛳 My opinions on DNI lists

I can understand some of them whereas some of them I can't but I mean you do you in the end as your comfort and all that comes first. Just as long as you don't like try to force other people to not interact with someone on your DNI list.

⛱ My opinions on anon hate

As someone who was subjected to it in the past and kept quiet about a lot of stuff that was going on in the backgrounds because I didn't want to bother people with that sorta drama, I don't like it and honestly if you can't talk out your issues like an adult then don't send blatant hate to someone as anon because that just goes to show what sort of person you really are.

🏛 My opinions on softblocking

I dunno. I'm indifferent. I've done it myself from time to time mostly for lack of interaction and stuff like that but nothing bad really.

🖨 My opinions on callouts

Some of them can be rather pointless and petty because people couldn't be bothered to talk to each other to sort out their issues, but other times when they're pointing out really problematic issues like someone being a pedo or someone who is abusive and manipulative then it does do you good to actually look into it and it's up to you if you wanna reblog said callout posts or not.

I'm not sure... I guess that despite all my insecurities and paranoia, I just want to make people happy and make friends.
