sorry sometimes i think about mako and my heart hurts so much. this kid raised himself and his brother on the streets in homelessness and utter poverty from eight through fifteen, promptly after seeing the violent death of his mother and father. he turned to the triple threats because they couldn't survive as a pair of wretched kids without any adult support, and the environment forced him to turn into the exact character that killed his parents in a terrible twist of irony. and after sheer-fucking-luck hits and they aren't homeless anymore, their livelihood wavers on the outcome of what's a literally game to everyone but them; and after things are finally starting to look up and their team is going places and things just might be okay, his gradually stabilizing world unceremoniously expands and everything goes to shit.
and the city that chewed him up and spat him back out, ruined him as a child and took away his ability to stay afloat in a true sense of normalcy as an adult — when it's on the verge of destruction and falling to pieces before his eyes, he gives himself to save it with the full expectation to die. he went from the kid who didn't and couldn't care about anything outside of himself and his brother, to finding redemption for his younger self in his police work despite its injustice against him, to willingly sacrificing himself to a world that had never loved him.
he's a desperate people pleaser, socially and emotionally stunted for the adult he had to be as a kid, unable to navigate interpersonal relationships easily yet still trying his damned hardest. he's intensely and entirely devoted to the things that matter to him and for so long it was only him, bolin, and ensuring their survival — yet by the end, that devotion has expanded to protecting the rest of the world. he starts out entirely self-reliant and ends in trusting the people he cares about to know their own needs, to be able to take care of themselves, to be okay without him despite having spent so much of his life defined by his role in others' well-being.
just. what the fuck i'm such a big fan of this fictional guy and i'm unashamed about it at this point. also let him cry please (if you won't i'll do it i'll let him cry)

I personally really could not give less of a fuck about genderswapped ruikasa because first and foremost imo I think people just do it to get yuri warrior points instead of actually caring about female characters/wlw relationships. however I also dgaf because I think people do it in the most boring way possible without thinking about how tsukasa and rui’s personalities would impact how they present themselves as girls.
Tsukasa is so incredibly determined to be seen as a reliable mature older brother figure to the point where he dresses in an incredibly stuffy and boring way & has stripped his room of anything childish (& anything with personality). She would not dress super cute & girly. she would want to be taken seriously (& you should be able to be taken seriously wearing fashion like that but I’m not getting into that rn) & be viewed as anything but childish. She would not dress like Saki she would dress like she worked at a library or something. Her fashion would still be boring. Integral to the character.
I have less to say abt rui because I generally think less about what his fashion choices say about him (beyond hater of tight clothes #sensory issues king) but he is almost never in shorts and dresses in comfy loose fitting clothes he would also not be a hashtag girly girl wearing short skirts and bows either.
‘But I want to draw yuri and I want them in cute clothes’ draw emunene instead. Hope that helps.

sometimes i'll be thinking about writing a fic about jason going through like rlly horrible things because i like causing myself and my fav character pain and then i'm like. wait. this already happened in canon.
oh i wanted to write a scene about bruce physically abusing his child to the point where he could literally not walk for a month? it already happened 👍
oh i wanted to write something where bruce and jason get into an argument about killing the joker and bruce throws a batarang at his neck and saves the joker, thereby potentially killing his son? canon covered it 👍
oh and what about jason and bruce being so toxic that bruce brings him to the place he got murdered and then beats tf out of him in said place? ohhh it happened in the comics? 👍
wait but what about a scene where like hmm bruce is so desperate to save his son from being a murderer that he violates his autonomy and essentially mind breaks him? doesn't that idea feel like a Dark Bruce Wayne fic? idkkkk that seems super interesting to explore and especially bc it'd be sooo #hurt no comfort on jason's behalf- WHAT? dc already has a scene like that???!?! 👍
dc is legit just writing ao3 fics

Siren AU part 3 [ part 1, 2]
At that time Jamil was there for over a year and figured out that Astrid isn’t the type to hurt others for his own goals or likes to hurt others in general
Gonna talk about Astrid’s backstory
Summary basically an Adult taking out their issue on an innocent child
As much as Astrid wants to open his heart he’s afraid of getting hurt again
Think of it as Astrid putting himself in a cage that he has the key to the whole time by stays there because it feels safer inside, even when he decides to step out it takes a while for him to completely step away from the cage
The woman in the mirror kidnapped Astrid as baby to get back at Odette. The 2 had a pretty toxic relationship and Odette finally got got out of the situation the woman would continue to try to drag Odette with her
She would take out the issue she had with Odette out on Astrid. Poisoning Astrid against Odette saying that she gave him up because he was a curse child and that she abandoned like he was nothing
Astrid calls her mother
Astrid’s curse is more uncontrolled powers also given he’s emotional state added on to his powers being uncontrolled
The woman would tell Astrid that a cursed child would only bring torment to others which Astrid fully believed since his powers had tormented her. During those times she would constantly scream about Odette and would look like a monster from Astrid’s perspective
Astrid ran away at 12 more like him escaping and mother running after him trying to get him to come back , when running he crashed into Odette who has been looking for Astrid this whole time
Astrid was confused about Odette taking him with her and later learning that she wanted him the whole time and was looking for him.
First 2 years were pretty rough for them
Also with Jamil, Astrid also helped him because of a sense of feeling wanted, Jamil picked him for a reason even if he knows it’s for an alternative motive

I get why people say Wyll/Karlach is enemies-to-lovers but it's missing too many of its signatures for me to agree
By nature, E-t-L's are slow burn. A good chunk of the story waits for one party to discover they're on the wrong side/both parties to realize they have more in common with each other than their factions, then a whole other chunk is dedicated to them learning how to trust each other. The higher the stakes in the story, the slower the burn
Yet everything between Wyll and Karlach is revealed and resolved in a single conversation. There are no lasting consequences of that initial animosity. Both are too good to hold grudges and all the fault lies firmly in hands not their own. Karlach trusts Wyll instantly and he her. Their friendship is so immediate that it's easy to forget that we met Karlach with the intent to kill her
And then there's the source of their quarrel. Wyll was led to believe Karlach's a devil seeking destruction and Karlach was just trying to go home. The thing that sets them against each other isn't their own beliefs or loyalties or anything deep seated and personal, it's the chain of command, something they're both eager to be rid of by the time we meet them. While it gives them something in common, it leaves them with nothing to unpack or overcome together
Compare that to the king of E-t-L's, Zutara of Avatar the Last Airbender. Zuko spent most of the show's runtime trying to capture the Avatar to guarantee the Fire Nation's total conquest, something Katara wants to prevent at all costs. When the two are stuck together by happenstance, they lash out at each other only to bond over their lost mothers. Then Zuko betrays her, something Katara does not forget and does not forgive until he proves himself much, much later. Afterwards, they support each other, watch over the others together, and make a damn good team against Azula. Perfect, should have been canon, fuck Bryke
Honestly, I think Wyllach is just Faerûn's version of a meet-cute

Glass Eye Headcanon
What's New Scooby Doos, it's 6:30 in the morning as I start writing this and I haven't had a lick of sleep. Anyways have y'all noticed the eye thing Ronald does?
^^ Book of the Atlantic! Now I understand Yana was still learning to draw him, etc, HOWEVER HE KEEPS THIS IN THE BLUE REVENGE ARC
^^ counting this even tho its barely there
^ Reversed
I had three major theories for this -
One: He lizard blinks, one eye at a time, but forgets to close it fully. Why? Idk funky reaper changes make you forget you don't need to blink, so its lasting habit from life mixed with reaper traits.
Two: It's an involuntary eye twitch?? But it usually only happens when he gets cocky?? What's going on here buddy. Why's it only happen when you open your mouth to talk shit. Why does your eye twitch like that.
Three, and my personal favorite: He fucked up his left (facing him its the right) eye/was born without it and uses a glass eye. However, since he is Murphy's Law incarnate (anything that can go wrong will go wrong), he's constantly losing it and getting new ones. They never quite fit, either too small or too big.
Is this slightly inspired by an irl of mine who has a glass eye? Oh yeah totally, and I love using irl influences in my headcanons. Is it the only thing that makes sense in my brain on why the Ronald Knox Eye Thing happens? Absolutely. While lizard blinking would be hilarious, I think the idea of him balancing out being nearsighted and half-blind with his combat skills makes for interesting storytelling + tactics.
He keeps getting L's, not because he's weak, but because he overestimates his lack of depth perception and swings too soon.
Ronald Knox knife scene I will forever cherish you in my heart, you earned that cut on Sebastian's cheek, I will never forgive the movie for removing it.

Hiii is there anything we know about the dagger squad backgrounds that’s canon? Other than Jake being from Texas, is the stuff about what they studied/where they’re from headcanon? THANK U MUCH LOV
we don’t really know that much i don’t think but a majority of the background info i’ve found is either vaguely mentioned in the film or the paramount draft script you can find online ! bradley being a poli sci major at UVA and graduating in ‘09 is canon (and also very dear to me bc that was my major too plus i also graduated hs at 17 bc we are both #junebabies :]), jake originally got his call sign because bradley gave it to him and he hated it at first, bradley played baseball as a kid, mickey is a trekkie and also catholic or at least raised catholic (he crosses himself before they launch on the mission in the draft script), harvard and yale were the only duo that came from the same squadron together before the movie, and bradley and jake and natasha were in top gun together at the same time. there’s probably more backstory you could piece together for everyone by looking at their service medals/ribbons they wear but i fear i am not knowledgeable enough about that sort of stuff without a lot more research. they all mostly have the same ones but natasha has a NATO medal, jake has a navy unit commendation ribbon, and reuben has a joint service achievement medal.
also silly canon details that aren’t background info but i still love: jake wears what i’m pretty sure is a class ring on his right ring finger, he’s also the only trainee i recall seeing actually wear his tags, he likes van halen and foghat and seems to be a classic rock fanatic, natasha wears a plain gold band on her left index finger, mickey, reuben, natasha, and bob all use those multicolor clicky pens, bradley is i think the only one of the main squad who doesn’t have the fingertips cut off his flight gloves, halo’s tank top has her squadron logo on it during the football scene, and those stupid jorts bradley wears were definely just jeans he cut the legs off himself 😭.

Been seein some rather cold takes about Daisy lately…
I’ve seen some people say that she has no personality outside of fanon, but that’s just not true. There is a very very common misconception among the fandom (at least that I’ve noticed) that if a character doesn’t appear in a “mainline” game, then they have no personality. But I’d argue that the spinoffs actually offer waaaaay more in terms of looking into character personalities. And no, I’m not talking about the RPGs ala M&L and Paper Mario as those are obviously full of personality (and Daisy isn’t in those). I’m talking about the Party, Kart, Tennis, and other sports games.
Yes, Daisy hasn’t appeared in any mainline game since her debut, but she’s been in nearly every sports game and her traits, stats, abilities, victory/loss animations, and various other tiny details add up to her personality. The fact that she’s nearly always yelling or just speaking really loud in general (noticeably more than any other character), the fact that she constantly feels a need to say her name and make herself known, how she loves flowers and considers even a small patch of flowers worth protecting, how she’s easily bored by tasks that don’t excite her and isn’t so reliable for them. She tends to jump around a lot, and spin and dance around when she’s excited! She’s apparently a rather fast runner and that is considered her specialty! These are all traits that are displayed in the spinoffs, and there’s probably soooo many more that I just can’t remember right now.
Now, I do think her tomboyish nature is probably fanon, as I don’t really remember seeing anything to show that she acts that way in the games. I think people probably think she’s tomboyish due to how loud and energetic she is. But hey, there’s plenty of fanon for just about any character from any fandom out there. And what’s so wrong with that? Isn’t the whole point of making fanworks to expand on the framework already provided by canon? If we want to stick to what’s actually “canon” then nearly everything the fandom has created would have to be tossed, because there really isn’t much to work with. Fanworks and fandoms thrive on what fans can create based on the canon work, not just sticking to it perfectly.
It’s fine if you think the “fanon” Daisy outshines the “canon” Daisy and you dislike that. But to say that she has no personality aside from fanon interpretations just tells me that you have a very narrow idea of what counts as “canon” in an already rather simplistic world. The Mario games are very simple and straightforward without much consistent lore that actually makes sense cohesively, but the characters are what keep everything tied together despite that. The characters are nearly always consistent, and that includes Daisy. Even when the setting is completely different and some random new villain shows up with some random new power source to steal or species to torment, our same well-known lovable characters will be the center of the story and that’s what makes it fun!

I keep thinking about how on earth they would canonize ggy bc like. at this point if they have to sacrifice Gregory screentime of just him to make something we already know actually canon, I would rather just take the screentime, but on the other hand they have to canonize it if they want to do anything at all with that plotline, and that makes me wonder if theyll stick with it as canon in the games at all or just leave it as background knowledge if u read the book 😭
