It’s finally time to introduce the secondary project I’ve been working on >;Dc

I’ve had this queued for sometime in June, did not check when, so hello on [random date in june] ;D

I’m also here to explain how I’ll be posting this stuff going forward! Everything will be posted here, on my main account before being reblogged over to Soul’s Anchor a side bog with the place holder title. Unless it deals with more adult/suggestive content or heavier topics, of which will be exclusively posted to Soul’s Anchor side blog. As I don’t want certain themes alongside AM! I’ll also be referring to this series as Anchor for short! I will encourage any and all Questions, Mentions, and Thoughts to be directed there for those interested and those who are not, dw! You’ll only see the initial posts here, no asks or follows up, but this is still my art account and I shall enjoy it as I please ;3

Brief Synopsis about the Story:

A queer love story following a cursed pirate and a cult refugee implanted with a god’s eye as they combat the reality of living in a world which was created solely to feed the gods that govern it. All whilst a sapphic couple attempt to help guide the pair along a path to to a better future, one that’s validity comes into question. A dark fantasy story that aims to represent the disabled community, the LGBTQIA+, and SA survivors written by fellow members of these communities.

Also brief disclaimer, I, Phlurrii, am simply an ally to the disabled community, my partner in crime writing alongside me, ArtJunco on Instagram, is our resident community member ;]

Anyways onto the meat of this!

Below is a collection of some, emphasis on some, of the concept art and processes I went through to develop and create one of the two main characters, Lumae.

Here are some of the earliest ideas, the basic thoughts I had in my brain when developing this goober after a 3 hours pacing in my kitchen at 1 am when that inspiration struck. His hair was the HARDEST bit for me to figure out. Which sucked as usually the hair is one of the first things I figure out because of how much I love it, so it was Agony while brainstorming that part.

I also briefly considered a goatee, however it was so cruelly shot down by my dear friend. So in stead we compromised that he may get one later down the line story wise… and see how we feel then. However, upon finally figuring out his hair I was bloody elated, still has some tweaks now and then, but the base is there.

As for this next concept, this was actually the FIRST thing created for Lumae and what started everything else about his character/design! His eyes! They are still my favourite but about him and something I adore whole heartedly! They are the core of his character ;3c

These next few are early refs and mock ups of his full design, testing our colours, experimenting with shading, getting used to drawing humans again, and general concepts I had for him as a character! Also a sneak peak at Ayric, our second main goober for this story! Who was lovingly designed and created by ArtJunco!

And finally his most recent WIP ref! The only thing currently bothering me about his design is the colour for his boot covers, I have no idea what to do with them so I’d you have suggestion or ideas, sincerely, feel free to shoot an ask to the Anchor blog! I’d genuinely love outside opinions!

As for the main curiosity of why I’m doing this, for those that missed the last post, I’ll give a brief explanation below ;3

synopsis. getting ready for halloween w/ choso

tags. no warnings, a half written wip that I lowkey liked but dk what else to do with so it is what it is

when choso was six and skidding headfirst off of his bike, cutting upon a large gash across his face, not once did he think that at eighteen he’d have a girl on his lap decorating his scar for halloween.

“if you move one more time,” you lightly scolded, no malice in your voice as you lightly gripped choso’s chin in your hand. his face was tilted up as you straddled him, paint brush in the other hand as you added fake blood across your boyfriend’s scar. two messy straight lines just below each of his eyes to add to his vampire aesthetic.

he always took yuuji out for trick or treating around their estate. except usually he was just his little brother’s chaperone, making sure that he didn’t get lost or hurt throughout the night. this year, you had somehow managed to convince him to dress up too.

you had already shown up to their house in your cowgirl costume, being greeted by yuuji dressed in an alien suit from toy story. his face was painted a light green and he’d stuck a googly eye in the centre of his forehead. yuuji had personally taken it upon himself to decide what the three of you were going to dress up as, hence the lack of coordination. initially, you and choso had been planning a couple costume but that had been quickly shot down by his little brother. 

“it’s cold,” choso complained with a light whine, thumbs drawing circles on the skin of your thighs. 

“you have tattoos all over your body and you can’t handle some face paint?” you giggled, glancing down at his hands. there were only small ones visible, a cross here and a little doodle that yuuji had drawn, but you both knew if he took off the shirt he was wearing there’d be half a dozen more, larger ones that he would have taken hours to complete - far more uncomfortable than a little bit of cold paint. 

“it’s not my fault it’s cold,” he grumbled, more akin to the feelings of small needles than the cool blood being painted onto his skin. you were taking much longer than you needed to admittedly, enjoying the way his face scrunched up at the sensation of the fake blood a little too much. 

“are you done?” choso asked once you’d placed the brush back onto a piece of tissue for a final time. 

still holding his chin in your hand, you tilted his head further towards the light above your heads. your eyes drifted across each of his flawless features, decorated in blood red – both from the face paint and the light flush on his cheeks from your unbashful staring.

“mhmm, just admiring my handiwork. not my fault i have a pretty boyfriend,” you smiled, pressing several kisses to his jaw, instead of his lips as you would have preferred in order to avoid the damp face paint. you don’t think yuuji would have been impressed if you messed up your cowgirl look with blood. he’d spent a solid five minutes deciding what each of you would be and wear.

choso hummed, eyes fluttering shut as he welcomed the feeling of your lips against his skin. this was much better than a paint brush and far better than whatever waited downstairs. “i think yuuji could go one halloween without trick or treating.” 

“what happened to the ever-doting older brother act?” you chastised, giving him one final kiss before slipping off of his lap to fix your skirt and hair.

“he got a really hot girlfriend.”

Writerly Questionnaire

I got tagged back in my own questionnaire (tysm @saturnine-saturneight), so here we go!

About You

When did you start writing? I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen, quite frankly! As a toddler, I’d draw doodles then scrawl zig zags beneath to represent the “words” of the illustrated story. They became real words as I learned to read. I was never found without a notebook.

Are the genres/themes you enjoy reading different from the ones you write? I read a lot of stuff I don’t think I could ever actually write. My all-time favorite author is Cormac McCarthy, followed by Jane Austen and Jack London. Larry McMurtry is becoming a fast favorite. My stories tend to require less lived experience. I am not well traveled or thoroughly educated, so, while I’m happy to do research, I most often write stuff that requires less expertise. I also write more about gay cowboys than any of the authors named above — at least as far as is publicly known.

Is there an author (or just a fellow writer!) you want to emulate, or one to whom you’re often compared? I have been compared to Chuck Palahniuk, which is enormously flattering (if not deserved!) It’s massively important to me to have my own style/voice, so I don’t want to write like anyone but me… but I would love one day to harness even a modicum of McCarthy’s talent.

Can you tell me a little about your writing space(s)? (Room, coffee shop, desk, etc.) At a desk or coffee shop. The stars must align just so, my mood must be just so, I must have creative juices flowing and absolutely no distractions or particularly strong feelings. (I end up not writing anything more often than not.)

What’s your most effective way to muster up some muse? I wish I knew. Inspiration hits me light a lightning bolt once in a blue moon. Other than that, maladaptive daydreaming watching head movies. Music is an excellent source of muse.

Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about? Absolutely. In a way that reminds me a bit of Donald Ray Pollock, who writes about a pretty bleak and raunchy Appalachia.

Are there any recurring themes in your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all? Loneliness, self-loathing, self sabotage, addiction in many forms, mental illness, abuse, and suicidal ideation/thoughts/attempts, “taboo” romances (usually sexuality vs time period). Some of these come as a slight surprise; others are no surprise at all.

Your Characters

Would you please tell me about your current favorite character? (Current WIP, past WIP, never used, etc.) It’s Shiloh. I have no idea why. He’s been my favorite since 2018 or 2019. He’s weird as hell but writing him comes effortlessly.

Which of your characters do you think you’d be friends with in real life? Preferably none. They’re kinda awful. In all seriousness, maybe Lou? He’s chill and makes a good listener.

Which of your characters would you dislike the most if you met them? Ruck. We have nothing in common, would have nothing to talk about, and his poor decisions would stress me out. He’s one of my favorite characters I’ve ever written, but I would hate to actually know him.

Tell me about the process of coming up with of one, all, or any of your characters. Just about every one of my favorites started out as a side character meant to garner very little attention. Somehow or another, they demanded to be written — demanded I let their personalities shine. And lo, here they are.

Do you notice any recurring themes/traits among your characters? Mentally ill lonesome addicts.

How do you picture them? (As real people you imagined, as models/actors who exist in real life, as imaginary artwork, as artwork you made or commissioned, anime style, etc.) As real people! Often I’ll pick a model/actor as a template, but they always evolve into a slightly varied appearance from that person in my imagination.

Your Writing

What’s your reason for writing? It feels so compulsory there’s no other option but to write.

Is there a specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers? I like when people tell me what they felt when they read my writing. Whether it’s attachment or hatred aimed at a character, or nostalgia, or just feeling like they were there when the scene took place. Anything that shows they absorbed and enjoyed it feels like the hugest compliment.

How do you want to be thought of by those who read your work? (For example: as a literary genius, or as a writer who “gets” the human condition; as a talented worldbuilder, as a role model, etc.) I want people to think, this bitch loves words. She loves writing. She is a writer.

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer? Making people feel endeared to the characters. Realistic dialogue. Getting inside a character’s head.

What have you been frequently told your greatest writing strength is by others? Pacing & setting description. Which is awesome, but I always feel like these things are weaknesses of mine? I’m always iffy about them - pacing in particular. I have no idea how to do it, but I’ve been told I do it well. That said, there are definitely things -I- think I do well that get the most negative feedback/criticism.

How do you feel about your own writing? (Answer in whatever way you interpret this question.) Writing is the only thing I feel I do relatively well. I’m certainly not the world’s best, and I don’t think I’m really ready to be published or anything like that - but I am pretty proud of it. It’s the only thing I feel this way about. I want to show it to people. I wanna talk about it. I love to read what I wrote. It feels gross to say that, but I’m making myself say it anyway, lmfao. I love to see other people feel this way vs anxious or self conscious about their writing.

If you were the last person on earth and knew your writing would never be read by another human, would you still write? Yeah, for sure. I don’t know if I’d write as much fiction, because part of the fun is talking with others about it. But I’d still journal, and I would still imagine stories in my mind.

When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? If it’s a mix of the two, which holds the most influence? I hate this question, wtf Davy. It’s a slight mix. I’ll admit a part of me wants validation from others, but a larger part would rather write what she wants to write than turn it into a chore. Doing something just to entertain others is definitely a chore. My writing is heavily self-indulgent and I think it may suffer a little from that - but it also means when people enjoy it, they enjoy it more. I think it’s the same for any writer who does it this way. When I belonged to a huge online critique group, I edited the life out of a novel I was working on and made it less enjoyable to its biggest fans while trying to net a larger audience. I now know that was a huge mistake, because having a tiny group of people who eat your shit up is way better than having a ton of people read it, approve of it, but ultimately forget it existed because it wasn’t memorable.

i think the sketch looks silly and goofy and funny so i find it important to share with you the mere presence of the faces i drew on it. i drew it on top of the boxes without staying inside its borders because i find my proportions can get wonky if i draw them cropped in a restricted space. and I feel trapped otherwise and i will draw BAD!!! give me spaceeeee to go wild!!!!

the head circles are there for emotional support

very low res speedpaint because truth is the canvas was much bigger than the space where my comic was placed. i didnt account when exporting my timelapse in 720px that that tiny space would look so pixelated ... but it's able to be percieved, so its okay.

(i will now comment on my process and it is not brief sorry)

usually i would try to clean up my sketches and figure out what goes on top before jumping into linework, but since there are multiple panels and drawings i chose to jump into inking right away for the sake of brevity. i just went in with a brush that uses pen pressure and drew what was needed. i added extra line thickness and contrast in areas around the face because it helps direct your eyes there more easily that way.

according to her equipment rei has a chain belt but i only remembered it existed once I was going to color, and i did not like that discovery... I chose to ignore it to maintain my peace. i already have the color palettes for these characters figured out, and i didnt really want to think about a new element at the moment www I tend to overthink those things a lot so i skipped it

the rest is rather straightforward! not that anything else wasn't, but in here i could turn my brain off and sing. linework and sketching require mumbling so i cannot turn my brain off. just block in the characters with a solid color so i can have a mask (something along those lines,) where the color can stay inside. then just color in !!!

Base colors just had slight cell shading on the skin, and for the hair i airbrush a bit of the skincolor in low opacity near the forehead... I'm not sure what it means, but i can look at the faces easier with it somehow. i like the gentle subtlety it adds even if you cant really tell. it makes things look nice.

background was just me blocking in the color of the wall and floor, shade the wall a bit, then slap a noise and free use wood texture on top. work smarter not harder ! yet it took a bit to make it look stylistically fitting with the characters, and even now i think bottom middle panel looks odd. whatever!!!

for the middle panel i thought itd be funny if the background was a solid silly and colorful one to contrast the next panel's sketchy black one. a contrast to how the word widow is seen. on that note my handwritting is not pointy. i gaslighted my hand into thinking that it was indeed pointy in that moment so i could write "not-yet dead person" in letters that didn't seem cute. my hand did not fall for it but it complied anyway

that's basically it! I'm not sure what else i could say that doesn't feel barebones because it really is that straightforward. if you're curious I used clip studio paint for this. only special brush used was for linework (a brush named Lemon Brush), the rest used were just the default. my computer gets the least credit. it was trying to convince me a 20mb file was going to nuke it all the time and hardly let me save multiple times so i do not appreciate it

This is just a little ramble plus a doodle, nothing major but sort of long - so feel free to scroll! So I've started this idea/WIP that I'm super proud of. It's nothing complicated, just Tim with a camera. But what I've challenged myself to do is instead of doing it all in one or two sittings and keep going until I get it done I'm using it as a piece to just do in between works.

So like, I'm in the middle of a drawing and I want to do something else, I'll work on this piece for a bit. I've just finished a piece/drawing and I still want to draw but I don't want to start anything new? No problem I'll just work on this! I have about 50 other WIPs I want to get done but this one is where I go to take a break

Might be finished in days or months idk, but it's like a halfway space between art. And it's working well so far! Working on it is really calming and I think it's actually helped me focus on my other projects, knowing I can get distracted but not loose my drawing flow. When I eventually finish this (who knows when) I'd definitely like to continue doing pieces like this with this sort of concept!!

It also feels like there's less pressure surrounding it a I'm just taking it slow, so I feel like its turning out really well and I'm taking the time to properly experiment!

You guys know my feelings about realism, so I'm trying to experiment and see if I can merge it with a more stylised version to see if I like it more!

evil art style! my art style has quite a lot of range but I decided to default to chibis for this. I also didn't want to like, just draw one character bust up like i see most people do for it, so I wanted to come up with a way to show multiple characters on one page in an appealing manner

sonic drawing practice! I've been procrastinating this one because the lineart I've done so far on it is almost too good. I'm not sure If i can keep up the standard set

jame-joe doodles! really wanna keep developing this concept: I think it has decent potential! i don't remember how much I've shared about him but i don't think i've talked about it much beyond the base premise. Jame-Joe is inspired by characters like Dipper and Wirt, he's clever, is serious and studious in the pursuit of his goals, can be rather emotional and is prone to cowardice and insecurity, but can be determined when push comes to shove. I set myself up for a challenge here, as I want him to be expressive but limited by his doll body. It's a fun challenge though!

more 'i should start an etsy' drawings. i've seen people make like 'gacha blind bag' keychains and thought of the idea of those with aimaina-chan designs!

fdanfsdjk I almost feel bad for spoiling this one because I'm so excited to share it!!!! But i guess the sorta person to read through this post probably don't mind spoilers lol. I realized 'Timmy's a 2000s kid' and decided to go ALL IN on that. I dug deep into my memories and decided this kids going to need rainbow looms, slap-wraps, silly bandz, and those rubbery braclets where theres one white segment and one black segment and i have no clue if this is true but when i was a kid everyone always said the white segment was snow from mount everest and the black one was like sand from the bottom of the ocean. anyway! I had so much trouble wiht finding the right shade of pink that if i go trhough making a youtube video on these designs you guys will definitely here my color theory rant.

my main goal i can only describe as 'arcade carpet'

he thinks he's cool but knows he's lame. I gave him a fnaf shirt also, i dived deep into my brain as asked myself 'what graphic t-shirt from hot-topic would timmy turner wear' and i decided on fnaf because i think it's funny. so far these extra outfits have been going up in the amount of projection I'm doing. It started with spongebob's sweater vests, continued with Dannys stereotypical-transmasc fits, and now I'm lowkey just drawing stuff I've worn (actually danny's fit with the flannel I've def worn before but like, i assigned timmy a sanrio character(i gave him keropi because it's an easy way to incorporate green accents into his design lol)) anyway!!!

i had 'i want it that way' stuck in my head again and turned to queeries he proceded to give me the solution of chipi-chipi-chapa-chapa. this was not a solution obviously but whatever. i decided to use my new problem to animate myself dancing. sure. why not. if I upload this to youtube i think i should title it 'me at the function' of course i don't actually go to any functions so perhaps 'me when i' would be more fitting

Time to share some Starry lore because I’ve got a cute scene in mind. I love to vocal stim, sounds, phrases, but particularly songs. I’ll hear a song that feels just right and I’ll sit and chew it for hours til my throat’s sore. Currently favorite is The Valentine in Starfield (Is it still a sea shanty if it’s in space?). The reason I bring this fun fact up is because I can just see myself sitting for hours stimming with boys over new songs. Especially if it’s any new pieces for the theater. While the scripts and lyrics are predesigned by Fazbear, there’s something unquestionably their’s in performance that make it worth repeating. Worth remembering. Humming through daily tasks. Parroting their tone, their voice. Another sign of their existence that’s more then the capacity to destroy, then just simple property… They do end up being slightly upset when the Glamrocks try to introduce their songs to stimming sessions. (Sun/Moon: “That’s my human bonding time :(“ Monty: “Get cooler song selections then Sock and Buskin.” Freddy: “Pls do not misuse google search privileges to make insults.”)

Unfortunately often 1-3 lines on repeat fgklgjkldfjg currently it's Villainous Thing, but I keep mixing "Let me see those smoky eyes" and "Let's remove those pretty clothes" and I end up singing "Oh dear, let's remove those smoky eyes" which. not the same fgkldjl

(Goose by Eyndr! Sun is stimming with a ribbon, like I do, except that I like to wrap it around the pads of my fingers, but he doesn't have those, so he has the bad habit of letting it run between his finger casings. Also I wanted a domestic vibe for this and also thought it'd be hilarious to have 'fanservice' with Sun being shirtless. Also, a more masculine Y/N! First beard I've drawn I think???)

One of the three absentmindedly starts a song and the others join in almost immediately. Unless it's a headache day, the backstage is never silent between those three, there's always a bit of humming or singing or even just echolalia.

Which. Mood. I always immediately and absentmindedly want to join in on sounds or singing in vc -- which. being in vc at all, and talking?? is a new development for me fgjdgkl but my god it's nice to be vibing and singing with a friend while doodling -- shout out to my bestie @eyndr ! Back to BaL! Sometimes, for fun, all 3 purposefully mess with the cadence or pitch, either to make each other laugh or just to get creative or because it sounds nice, and they end up liking something and it's like "!!!!"

When they sing that version later, it feels like theirs -- like it's those moments spent together. Proof of their existence and how it affects the world around them positively. Reminders that they're loved, and they love (in a cosmic kind of way, but also it's a self insert so fuck it we BaLl (aaaay finally used the joke @lavenoon fgjdfklgjld).

Also yeee I can see them being really, ACTUALLY insulted when one of the animatronics, who doesn't know because those little sing-stimming sessions are private with Y/N, jokes about how those songs are lame and they should be singing some of theirs instead because they're catchier. Oof

Which, just now, made me realize that BaL Sun's anger runs cold, so he just goes totally silent, straightens up and get that intense stare. Maybe Moon's even the one who talks through the speaker to deflect and does that overly-sweet anger of like "Catchy, huh? Hopefully we don't catch those inflated egos of yours -- there's barely enough space for all of us and your big heads as it is! We'll come back later~!" to excuse themselves (and then prank them to hell and back of course! But there's no proof : )) ) (ALSO OH MY GOD SOCK AND BUSKIN THAT'S FUCKING GOLD. THAT'S SO CANON NOW AND THE BOYS THINK IT'S HILARIOUS)

Back to the singing, I think that another thing that they do especially well is that they can sing at the same time, so even for solos they can add back vocals to each other, or play around with the pitch since they do-and-don't share a processor and can adapt in microseconds -- wait actually they can definitely sing rounds, too!!

Oh my god now I'm imagining them singing rounds with vastly different moods at the same time, perfectly calibrated so that both of them come out loud and clear and also enhance each other's -- lining up or losing one of their voices at just the right moment to be chilling. It's like you're getting the song and the reprise but both at once

Hey loves, I hope you're doing great and of you aren't, please take a minute to breathe and hug yourself and say "I love you, it'll pass"

Now I'm going to leave a little vent about burnout and self worth as an artist on Tumblr <3 for anyone who might feel like their struggles aren't valid or seen enough, and not worth sharing

So... Every time I ask for requests I get a little bit of burnout because I'm convinced only about 3 people are going to reply with asks that say things like "dew in slutty crop top" "mountain with flower" "a ghoulette existing"

Instead I get super lovely prompts that I actually get exited about and want to make fully fleshed pieces but they're so exhausting, because I have like 10 wips already and I'll never post enough art for people to enjoy.

So now there's already 20 old ask requests I never replied to and 20 more new ones that I'll never be good enough to draw and post, and it really messes with my brain when I know I could also just say "hey here's a quick doodle of this" and people will still enjoy it, and that I dont have to be so elaborate and that I dont owe anyone anything and that people will still be there for me no matter what...

I feel like I can complain a lot here sometimes but I like to be transparent... I struggle a lot with mental health and self worth especially when it comes to art...

I never want to stop drawing and I'm grateful to everyone for their support, but I also feel like it's important to acknowledge that I feel like this and that others might too and we're allowed to feel that way... and we're allowed to fall in and out of love with your hyperfixation's fandom and purge your followers and block people who made you feel horrible and make long complicated posts about it.... because it's Tumblr... it's my little piece (and peace) of mind, and you should get to see several sides of me... silly goofy, tired and burnt out, caring and gentle... and any other you may catch a glimpse of (murderous intent when my friends get mean anons🙂).

But at the end of the day... I'm just another human... I'm not perfect, I'm very young, I have a long way to go and a lot to learn and a lot to heal and get over with. And I'm very grateful to be able to share my art here, and that ghost (the band) was a gateway into discovering parts of myself I didn't know existed before, and also learning that a lot of bad things happen in life and that suffering is just a part of your growth.

scrambles … hi, what is your thought process when planning out designs / drawings if you have a specific one

Both have general processes!

Drawings wise just depends on if I want to make a new piece or not. If I do, usually I make a symmetry tool and make some kind of a box in the middle! Take this WIP for instance:

Which is a scrapped composition for my "We're Gonna Win" piece! I still liked it, so I moved it to a new canvas and made the inner box a little bit bigger than what it is for my CCCC album works!

Though a lot of these canvases get left at the wayside. Unfortunately. But my point still stands! Compositions I will usually draw anywhere from 1 to upwards of 5 thumbnails for. Most of the time though, that is only if I have a specific idea in my head.

I've got a lot of "mass doodle" canvases where I've just drawn a host and assortment of things, some of which I've blown-up on a canvas and drawn over to make a full piece of work!

As for designs,, sort of? I like to put a lot of symbolism and meaning into them where I can, otherwise its pure unfiltered self indulgence. Lots of the time with HMS aus I've asked myself "what haven't I done yet?" and gone from there. Thus giving me white haired Heart, Mind, and Soul in different varying aus (Good Day, Syncopation, Lacuna).

I also like to use colors that are going to look nice with one another, and for clothing I'll occasionally peruse Pinterest for ideas.

Good example I suppose is my Soul Line-up, of which I intended to do a Mind and Heart version, I just.. haven't had the focus for it (Plus there are souls I could probably add to this by now. oops!)

For Soul, though, I like to keep the red and the grey, then add in black and white where I see fit. I also generally try to consider the personality of the character when giving them a design.

Purpose isn't going to have many accessories, he's based more in being useful and fulfilling their point in being Whole than he is looking like someone at all. Versus, Calliope (Eleutheromania)! Who desperately wants to individualize himself and feel in control. What gives you more control than a goofy suit with a tailcoat? Or, Pluto (Lacuna), who wears items of his long since dead Mind and Heart to remember them by. He is so so cozy but also soo sentimentally sad.

Just things like that, which I think make sure the character is evident in their clothing, hairstyle, expressions and so on.

I'm a writer....well, I’m working on it, I'm neither good at writing nor storytelling, worldbuilding or character creation, but writing is the only thing that when I do it I don‘t feel like I’m secretly wasting my time, so imma keep doing it

WIP Questionnaire

I'm doing this for "What Dahlia Knows"

1. What’s the first part of your WIP that you created?

Dahlia and Emilie are old characters of mine. I've been doodling them since I was about 15, but it wasn't until last year that I thought up a real story for them. The first line, though, "Every night, after Mother’s footsteps faded down the hall, Dahlia knelt in front of her water stained window and prayed that her daddy would never get better. This practice was to make sure he did get better, because Dahlia had discovered through vigorous trial-and-error that whatever she prayed for would never come true," has been a part of Dahlia since the beginning.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Something like L'eternite by ALI PROJECT

3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

I love all of my characters, but I have a special place for Ruth. I love her mystique. She talks like how I wish I could talk.

4. What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?

I think my hypothetical fanbase would like old children's books, like The Secret Garden or Anne of Green Gables. Also, Lemony Snicket.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

The ending! The reason it's taken so long to finish my first draft is because I must've rewritten the ending a dozen times by now. I did actually start writing with an ending in mind, but with the direction the middle has taken it, I'm not sure it's the most satisfying option anymore. Much to ponder.

6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

No major animals, unless the incidental birds count, but Emilie does have a stuffed dog she carries everywhere. The stuffed dog not having a name is a bit of a callback to my own childhood, when I could never remember the names I'd given my many stuffed animals. Even today, I don't name my dolls, partially because it feels like imposing human ideals onto inhuman beings, but also because I'd never keep them all in my head.

7. How do your characters travel/get around?

Walking. Again, a callback to my childhood living in a very walkable area.

8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Again, the ending. I actually really love editing, so I want to get to that as soon as possible, but tying everything together is really a struggle.

9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) you think will draw your audience in?

The cryptic dead mentor, the kids walking around and having philosophical arguments unsupervised, and the prose style.

10. What are your hopes for your WIP?

That I'll finish it, that I'll be able to send copies to my local libraries, that I'll get to do one of those school auditorium author-visits.

i only remember the day i made grimm and yarrow bc it was 4/20 and i thought it was funny anyways happy one year to these two fuckers eating away at my brain and here's to them continuing to do that for...the foreseeable future

since i have created So much about them in this year, i wanna recap what the fuck i've done bc i have never had this happen before. it's definitely new to hyperfixate on some ocs so intensely but i'm having a good time with everything so! i can't say i'm upset that these two kicked my ass into gear with drawing so much !!

starting off with the first sketches of them i scribbled down before i had to get back to work on other stuff bc i don't think i posted these

they've evolved a bit but....not by much really. esp in regards to yarrow i had what is more or less his current design nailed down within a day. not to mention that these two both had names within 24 hours? that usually does NOT happen for me

in terms of all the other art, th galleries aren't the absolute best metric to measure how much i've drawn my ocs bc it doesn't account for all the sketches and wips i have lying around and i upload gift art so it's not all mine in there NONETHELESS it's wild comparing their th gallery stats to the main trio of ttw bc those three literally have a decade of existence on them

(also grimm has five more standalone pieces of fanart than yarrow, so the gap between how much i've drawn the two of them is even smaller)

within a year, these two have, give or take, half the amount of stuff as i've managed to make for my other mains that have been around over a decade. ofc with ttw being around so long there are a lot of unfinished things, paper drawings i have stashed away, things that're retconned, and so many more sketchbook doodles of them that just never got posted so it's not as comparable to honeybee bc it's a more constant slowburn in my brain. but still. still

that's also not to mention the 16 or so full comic pages i've drawn for them?? (most of those are under toyhouse's literature bc it's easier to post them that way) which doesn't sound like a lot, but bc i've never done that before with any of my ocs it's. wild to me. i'm still figuring out a method that makes making comics as painless as possible bc i have ideas! but it still feels like i'm like pulling teeth sometimes! i can say it feels a bit easier to make comics now but i still have a lot to figure out :,,D

also i've been writing. i don't consider myself a writer. i said "fuck it we ball" and started writing. i guess i am on technicality, and it's not as if i haven't written anything at all (hi ttw and the old peartree draft), but definitely haven't written extensive prose before this. anyways i've got a 10k-word outline and am approximately 35k words into the first draft so it's not nothing! in fact that's a lot for me, esp bc i'm constantly battling the urge to edit things over and over and also the awareness of the skill gap between me and all of the writers i am constantly reading so it's overall just a...really slow process OTL

because i'm deranged and refuse to make things easy on myself, i envision honeybee as an illustrated novel, but not necessarily illustrated like fantasy novels are i'm talking like....a novel with comic panels in it. i have a vision. (also i had a dream where i read a book like this i can See it in my mind). it's fine. i'm normal. <if this comes to be for realsies i will have to learn how to do so much typesetting bullshit

i don't have any special art to commemorate my Year of Brainrot, but i guess i'll post some writing below the cut. heads up this is First Draft Shit, even though these are the parts i'm currently more fond of i am...not confident in my skills as a writer yet so please offer me some lenience hgfklhgld

yknow at this point i have drawn so many images i can draw pretty fast now. i think that's the best outcome after years of tormenting over how slow of an artist i was. mainly bc i really had no idea what i was doing, so i would spend HOURS on just a full-body character design or something of the like. of course all the practice and time spent studying anatomy or color makes things easy now (also obsession but we already know about all that)

i think its hard to learn that not all your art is precious and by that i mean of course u cant create masterpieces in a day and shouldnt torment over not being able to get something right the first time. the silly doodles all count towards something. i joke about having perpetual wips but i think my favorite thing is saving past ideas and reworking them later just to see how they changed. bc art, like people, is so dynamic. constantly changing.

and the best feeling is making the art u imagined years ago come to life or you get a bit closer to producing the work that you saw in your head. mmmmm growth.

So, What's Next?

I've had a few people approach me these past few days trying to figure out how I truly feel about the subject of no longer posting art

I realize that my last post on the subject is a bit long winded and didn't get my intentions as clear as they could have been, so here's a better post on it

Going Forward:

I will continue to post art, by technicality. It will solely be commission work, but my commissions will be closing some time in April (this is an estimate)

I will continue to post wips and links to my fanfics on my ao3 as I'm less sensitive when it comes to my writing than my art

I am not jumping ship to another site such as cohost or bluesky. I find them difficult to use when I am so used to tumblr already (I do have a bluesky, but I don't post art there)

Yes, I am aware that my art was scraped a long time ago. This is something I've always suspected since the rise of ai generation these past few years, but wasn't something I could prove nor fully understood until these past few weeks (please see this post by user foone for more context)

I won't stop drawing 💙💜 art is very personal to me, as I've explained in multiple posts. Nothing could get me to stop drawing, I just won't be posting my scribbles and doodles

This blog won't be deleted, as evident by what I said earlier about continuing to post. However, I'm not changing the url either, because I see no need to.

I may go back to posting art in the future. It could be a few months, six months, a year, or even multiple years down the line. As of right now, I have no idea how I feel about it. I need to sort out exactly how I feel before I'll be able to do that, but don't count on this as a given
