you should tell your friends what I look like, riz gukgak.
#fantasy high#fantasy high sophomore year#fhsy#riz gukgak#baron from the baronies#fh class quangle#class swap babeyy! bard!riz that's whats goin on!#I really need tags for these now I think lmao#ask to tag#I feel like this should be tagged something. but I dont know what#in my brain after the initial kidnapping class swap baron's thing is every time riz keeps his story abt them up in front of his friends#they get a little bit closer. they send him pictures of where they supposedly are n stuff#theres a scene in my brain only of kristen and riz on top of the van and kristen is like everything kinda sucks rn can u tell me abt baron#cause what you guys have is so nice and beautiful. and riz almost doesn't but he ultimately can't deny kristen a little peace#lmao I feel like dipping into baron stuff with the class swap is like showing my whole ass online again I just. I'm a#horror person before all else... I cant stop myself. canon baron is Great and Cool but that is kind of the thing. for a horror thing theyre#Too Cool. I think cool is kind of the neutralizer of scary. when a monster is a certain amount of cool it overrides the scary#and now u just have a Cool Monster#its so fucked for bard!riz this year bc he doesn't have an office (he's mooching off the school wifi from the AV club room lol)#so there's no buffer between adventure and home life. so baron just shows up in the strongtower apartment lmao#sophomore year bard!riz looks like a slasher protag so I just leaned into it I guess. he gets a mr. x if mr. x is made up by leon kennedy#well. its worse actually. they can show up where he is at any moment theyve proven this. but they dont#they choose to punish him slowly as he lies to his friends instead. baron is mr. x if mr. x is made up by leon and also a bitch#I think its gonna pop up if class swap baron ever speaks in a comic I do but their voice comes from like. inside their hollow face#it sounds like it's a lot deeper in there than that skull should be#tbh what I have rn is kinda like a bag of loose pieces that Can fit together into something great but I dont have the energy to#really sit down with them yet lol. Im doing this inbetween other things#it comes or it doesn't! it's fine. funny how today's bad comic day also. I wont say this is for bad comic day bc all my comics are#flawless and beautiful and perfect and awesome and beautiful and the best#but u should. if u havent drawn a comic today or at all ever u should draw a comic

HAPPY DEDEDE DURSDAY. Have THE King of Dream Land in all of his glory in the dragon au!
+Design notes/headcanons under cut
Based off of King Penguins! It let me give him a splash of color, and so his chick plumage was brown to make him look like the Waddle Dees! And also “King” Penguin. Haha.
Also based (generally) off of Theropod Dinosaurs. Namely, the Therizinosaurus for its body plan. I didn’t give him the killer claws because I still wanted him to be able to use his hammer. Maybe in another life, Dedede.
While he is primarily bipedal, he can swap to a quadruped stance if desired. He only usually does this if a ceiling is too low for him, or if he goes beast mode (like in Forgotten Land)
His horns form a crown-like formation on his head that was inspired by his mask during Masked Dedede fights. He polishes them to make them shiny like gold!
He has a throat pouch that lets him store food and, when he wants to float, air. He taught himself this through pure spite. I'm actually pretty sure the spite part is canon.
Dedede actually has a good amount of scars, but most of them are smaller and hidden by his feathers. Some, however, stick out quite a bit.
Has a stubborn hoarding instinct. Dedede’s initial greed as a ruler combined with this trait is what sparked the whole “stealing all the food in Dream Land” thing. After he grows as a person (gets his ass kicked) and becomes a good King, he moves on to hoard other things. It’s usually shiny things and small bits of food. He shares it with people he trusts (the Dees and eventually his friends)
The Dees look remarkably similar to a weirdly proportioned chick in his eyes (Same general body plan. Warm shades that are close to being brown. Cute, high-pitched calls). This sets off so many protective instincts in his head it drives him NUTS. Like he knows logically that they’re fully grown, but that won’t stop his brain from going “THAT IS A CHILD.” at first. This only gets worse with time :)

Your post about falin manifested some Thoughts in me. Seeing how such a big part of her arc was becoming more independent and discovering what She wants to do, mixed with a lot of parts in the manga where she is much more comfortable looking masculine - embarrassed about how blushy she is but not really liking makeup, enjoying more masculine clothes, that one haircut swap where she seemed really happy in laios' cut, it made me realize there's totally some room for even some transmasc falin headcanons! Or at the very least, she's definitely GNC and it would be fun to see that explored in fanfic and fanart... anyway, your in depth analysis posts have really inspired me, got me itching to create some obscure dunmeshi fancontent or analysis now!
Omg…… I’ve never fully thought about it but you’re so right transmasc Falin would go so hard… There’s also how she idolizes Laios a lot… Male older brother role model she puts on a pedestral, could play into her relationship with it. Because of the dragon I like to see her as intersex, including post-canon but beyond that I always saw her as being the more or less agender type that just goes with whatever she feels fits her better, the sort of cis by default for lack of caring about it all that much, not unlike how I consider Laios cis by default but if you dig deep enough there’s otherkin stuff going on in there… Def agree with GNC Falin.
She and Toshiro have some interesting parallels, of being passive and suppressing themselves for the convenience of others, it’s a reason why seeing her being unabashedly entranced by a bug struck him so much— himself being a bug fan and polishing his demeanor to be perfectly respectable. Because of that and including specific details like getting told "boys don’t cry" by Hien- Actually just let me link this excellent post about trans Toshiro. Transfem Toshiro is so compelling and I think pairing it with transmasc Falin would be very interesting… The gender envy of it all, the talks… Need them to go on a trip together post-canon so so bad, life changing self-discovery camping trip

i didnt read the last chapters since i discovered it was the end (but i was spoiled by tumblr lol)... i didnt want to believe it... i want to still look forward to new chapters of No Home :(
For the last few years eunyung and haejoon have been my companions. I healed a little while following the story of eunyung, feeling like its ok to be angry and wanting revenge on your family and the society that continues to want to keep you in a "house" where you are mistreated. How the world isnt made for children at all, the absolute unfairness of it all. That you can choose to keep going, and if you do so its ok to keep your distance with what hurts you.
I healed too with haejoon, who came to terms with the fact that he will always be overcome with sadness and grief from time to time, and when that happens he can only let himself feel and wait for it to pass, and try to look forward to the next day.
Honestly this manwha was the best ever. I couldnt read this manhwa as a form of escapism because it was too real. It pulled strings in my heart i didnt know i had, made me question a lot of things about myself, about others, about my relationship with others. It made me have painful discussion with a few people. Following this manhwa, most of the time, was really unpleasant lol. I hated then loved eunyoung, I liked and then disliked haejoon (yeah sorry haejoon, i think you can be really cruel and stupid and i wanted to strangle you a few times in the last arcs (i would NOT be friend with that guy lol) -thats why this character is so amazing). But i felt so much while reading it i wouldnt trade it for anything. It was funny, it was dumb, it was deep, it was enraging and healing, but most of all it was sincere. The most sincere depiction of what being a person in a deeply flawed society is, and how there's happiness even while surviving.
It was so frustrating to see the manhwa go in a direction i didnt want it to go ! I wanted it to become my cozy refuge, where every problems are magically solved, where haejoon and eunyung ends up understanding and loving each other in a cliché way, where theres a new home with my *fave charas* and its a series of feel-good interactions. Instead the problems kept pilling up, most of them didnt have a satisfactory conclusion, eunyung and haejoon kept hurting each other and distancing themselves. Haejoon just cut contact with his father without knowing what were his nefarious motives or without this guy facing any consequences, we dont know if eunyung's parents will keep bothering eunyung unchecked, we dont know if they're going to be happy and rich, or if, realistically, as orphans without generational wealth and deep traumas, they're going to end up in a shitty life situation.
And i couldnt thank wanan enough for this. They didnt take the easy way, the feel-good way, the way that would have given them a probably bigger fandom so a bigger source of money. I'm amazed by how they managed to hold this whole story so perfectly. Not a single misstep. Everything they draw was where it should have been, every action from the characters were understandable (and frustrating lol), the fucking subtlety of the developing relationships, no deus ex machina and no miserabilism. I didnt always agree with wanan's ethic or what i perceived of it (i think stealing or being violent is ok depending on the context, i dont think working hard to earn money is a virtue) but i respect how they choose to present it. I didnt talk about the other characters because honestly they didnt move me as much (except marie), but i love them so much too. I felt sad that eunyung and haejoon didnt become best friend 5ever (or even lovers hehe) but honestly, understandable lol. If i was one of them i WOULDNT become close with the other at all, so its kinda amazing they could still find this level of mutual understanding.
In short, wanan is an amazing story teller.
And an amazing image-composist (have no idea how to say this in english). The artstyle doesnt look like much, but this gave wanan a wide graphic range to convey emotions that wouldnt have been possible with a more sophisticated style i think -how will i forget the red swirlings mixing with eunyung skin ? The expressions, the choice of colors, the choice in showing something in particular without giving a clear explanation on why (often haejoon's surprised or contemplative face, which made me re-read chapters a few times to try to understand what was happening in his big head). It didnt feel like wanan thought their readers were stupid, nor did they play the fake-deep style. It was perfectly balanced.
And so even if i didnt read it, i have no doubt the end will be the same. Im so sad they decided to end this manhwa, but i know prolonging it would have been greedy and that ultimately, the manhwa would have suffer for it. Some authors do that : they have a popular series going on, and for whatever reason they keep writing new chapters without a clear goal and so the story becomes diluted, messy, useless. I love when they do this, because i can say goodbye to a story progressively as my interest in it wans, without feeling sadness or loss. But it makes me not think of the story at all in the future, since everything that was good about it became buried in new shitty chapters. Because wanan didnt do that, i know that i would think of no home for a long while, maybe forever,
,like i really lost companions when no home ended actually. Because it really, really hurts, knowing i wont be seeing new faces of the no home characters anymore. I know it sounds probably stupid ; i feel genuine grief here lol. I want to know what will happen to them, if they are alright, if they found a place in the world... if there is something to look forward after all, and i really dread not having answers every monday anymore. and the fandom is so small i cant comfort myself by re-entering the no home world every week or whatever... does anyone else feel this way ToT ? maybe i should participate myself but well,, i wouldnt know where to begin...
And saying that ! I'm almost never on this blog, i dont really have socmed accounts, i dont participate in fandoms at all. But I spent a looot of time reading and watching people who does -without being connected or interacting with posts or fanfics at all. AND i really want to thank you all for giving me so much material to chew, posts that made me think, fics that made me smile, drawings that inspired me, witnessing interactions that made me laugh. I was and i probably will continue to be a ghost on socmed, but i really want you to know that you had an impact on me and i was looking forward to your new posts (and will continue to!).

Not to keep harping on that article because I just don’t care about any of these men, but from a comms perspective the approach his team is just baffling to me. And yes, I concede that it’s seemingly hypocritical to dismiss anything an outlet like Daily Mail says about, say, Taylor, but take it at its word for this, but it’s the context clues that indicate when there’s an “in” and when it’s BS etc. So maybe it IS all BS, and for Joe or anyone’s sake, I hope it is, but there’s a larger conversation in the way these articles are worded.
**warning: rambling post about media ahead**
I know the end goal is to keep his (or whoever the subject in question is’s) name in the press ahead of his new movie to try to jumpstart his career, but thinking they can out-maneuver the most famous woman in the world with infamously tight-lipped and strategic PR for a flash in the pan news cycle is just so amateur. And it’s not like this is a budding artist vs. veteran superstar thing — in this example this person was her life partner for six years, he and his team would have intimate knowledge on how she operates and how this tack would not work in his favour. And I don’t mean that in a “she’s going to be vengeful” kind of way, but just in a “she operates at a completely different plane of existence in the industry and you know how she will or won’t react.”
And one thing that stood out to me was the one bit about how the privacy thing was facilitated by Covid lockdowns, which kind of tips the source’s hand at what they’re trying to refute: the prison/cage metaphors. In this example they’re saying “see they HAD to stay in all the time, it was a pandemic, and they both liked it anyway,” which is ignoring the fact that they had been dating for years before the pandemic (and by the time the first lockdown happened they were already living together and she was writing music about them taking next steps) and broke up years after the lockdowns ended.
The introvert/extrovert excuse had already been used in the initial breakup articles and leading up to TTPD, so throwing in the “it was lockdown so they both had to stay in anyway” buries the perception that a) the actor who is trying to revive his career doesn’t want to be in front of crowds and b) that one person in the couple was neglected and left at home by the other. The “cage” thing was one of the most scathing details about him on the album: while no one claimed he forcibly kept her there (nor should anyone make that leap), the subtext is that his preferences about their public vs. private life are what led her to live within those parameters. Most of us have come to the realization that that probably very much was her choice at first in the earlier days of their relationship, but by the end it no longer served her and the dogmatic adherence to it was stifling.
The more gracious way of painting this situation by this team could have been, “ultimately they just had different preferences on how to live their lives and they grew apart over them.” That way neither is dragged for wanting to stay home or wanting to step out. There’s no moral judgment. But instead, one side is trying to find anything else that sticks: Covid forced them to be homebodies! Also they were private, unlike her new man! They both chose it and were happy with it, so don’t look here! But the subtle misogyny in the article makes it clear that they’re trying to shift the discussion back onto Taylor. (For instance, there was no need to bring up Travis in this article, but they did to make a clear contrast to sensitive, private Joe — never mind that Travis and Taylor are also very private, they just acknowledge each other’s existence. And I say this as someone who doesn’t care about Travis either!) I know that’s by design because that’s what’s getting clicks, but the point I’m trying and failing to make is that *that is the point*: they know using her name is a shortcut to getting some buzz and hopefully generating interest, and sourcing articles and interviews like this is a tacit approval of the messaging and tactics.
I want to make it clear: I don’t hate this dude. (I don’t think of him at all, to quote Don Draper.) I don’t wish him ill. I don’t think anyone should go after him. He’s literally just some guy, and I honestly wish him well in his career and hope he carves out a niche for himself if that’s what he wants. I think the accusations lobbed at him by some corners of the internet are probably unfair based on what we know and there’s enough textual evidence of his being an unsupportive partner without needing to add unfounded fabrications on top of it all. But between the feature over the weekend that was explicitly condoned by him as a participant, and the corollary pieces like this one that if not actively sourced then at least tacitly approved by his team it seems, there’s an image being painted by the media, based on his team’s information, about a narrative that’s being pushed. And that’s that *he* is behaving in a way that is above board, while *she* is using their life together for a quick buck. (Which is rich… coming from an interview in which he discussed it as well. Which is fine! He has the right to! But I’m just saying there shouldn’t be a moral judgement on either of them.)
If I were advising Joe’s PR team (or anyone whose team was acting in this way), I would tell them to dump this strategy ASAP. Speak about the elephant in the room in your first interviews after the breakup? Absolutely, go for it, rip that bandaid off. But stick to the basics — breakups are hard, it was difficult to deal with it in the public eye, I’ve moved on, those years were a special time in my life but I’m ready for new experiences. And if you’re going to bring the music into it, even if you hate it (lol), stick to, “I respect her right to make art from her experiences in her way” and if you have to, “art doesn’t always tell the whole story” or something like that to subtly say “she can sing what she wants and it may or may not be true.” After all, he knew the deal going in, and wrote several albums about him; it wouldn’t be a surprise for her to do so after they were done.
What these articles are doing instead are a) peddling a narrative that’s easily refuted and b) increasing the risk that your client’s only interest in the public eye is by his association with an ex. Which, yes, we KNOW is true, but the purpose of this media mini-blitz is to build on that and build interest in him as a person and actor to launch the next phase of his career. Use the breakup nuggets as the hook, but sell yourself after you’ve caught their attention.
There are so many layers of PR tactics (and fumbles), value judgments, misogyny, etc. In these pieces, and it’s so frustrating, not just as a fan of Taylor’s, but more importantly I think, as a consumer of media and observer of communication practices. Like, it’s not just that it’s wrong, it’s that it’s not even effective as a career-building strategy, and it makes me scratch my head at what the end goal is. It’s so short-sighted and feels like they’re playing for instant gratification instead of the long game.
Anyway, this is just a ramble and I’m no expert, but I’m just once again perplexed at what this is going to achieve.

I've always been a little thrown off by the way the characters (the team and the passengers) react to Reid trying to talk down Ted, and I've never liked that the episode ends with Ted being shot (although I appreciate that he survives).
I'm not saying this to be critical of the characters: the team doesn't have audio, and the passengers (save for Elle and the incapacitated psychologist) don't have the knowledge to see Reid getting through to him, but:
Tumblr media
I don't know. Look at Ted's face. I'm bad at reading expressions, but at the very least, this doesn't seem like the expression of someone unaffected by what's being said to him, or the face of a man who's about to start shooting people. During the conversation, Ted stops aiming the gun at Reid, and yells at Leo to shut up when he tells him to shoot Reid.
I really think that Reid was on his way to talking Ted down, and I wish he'd gotten to do it. I don't think Elle hitting Ted while Reid is talking him down makes a lot of sense*. She's one of the few passengers who can understand that Ted is calming down, and I think she's at the right angle to see his changing expression. I wish Reid had gotten the chance to keep talking, because I do think he was close to ending it without anyone else getting shot.
One other thing I noticed while watching this episode—throughout the episode, Leo has always been onscreen while he speaks, either in the same frame as Ted, or the camera cuts to him while he speaks. However, if you rewatch the scene, notice that whenever Leo speaks during it, not only is he always offscreen, but his voice has an echo to it that wasn't there before. I don't think most of the analysis I post is reflective of the writer's intent, but that seems very intentional to me, symbolizing that Leo is becoming less real to Ted and therefore losing his grip on him.
*this is a criticism of the writing, not the character. yes, elle is impulsive, but the choice to hit ted while he's being talked down and is no longer aiming the gun at anyone seems like a strange and risky choice.
