Whumpril 2024 - Day 14 - Urgent Care
I love whumperless medical whump SO much so this has been eating me alive
TWs: Surgery, awareness under anesthesia, gore, blood, stabbing mention
Tuesday night was going well, Liam thought. He'd only had to help with one surgery that night, and was forty-five minutes into his break when he was paged. "Emergency Room" flashed across the tiny screen.
With a sigh, he slid his hands through short black hair and stood. The rest of his mid-shift meal would have to wait. He was the only anesthesiologist on site at the moment, so whichever poor sap was showing up soon would need him there, just in case.
Pale blue walls passed by in a flash as Liam's shoes squeaked against the tile floors. His favorite nurse, Jesse, met up with him as he neared the emergency room where the others were waiting. "Doctor Beryl!" He said, stark white bangs pinned back, and nervous, light eyes meeting Liam's. "EMS is four minutes away. A young transgender male, severe blood loss reported, apparent knife wounds, it's looking bad."
"Well, good thing I already chugged half a monster, yeah?" Liam said, watching the dark glass of the sliding doors for the ambulance. "Were there any other victims?"
"No, no, just the one. And there's someone already on the way from the nurses' station to meet the...family member? Partner? Whoever the guy is." Jesse checked his watch as flashing lights and sirens screamed into the parking lot. "Oh—and you have your station set up?"
"Always. And we're still on for Sunday brunch? It's your turn to pick, Jess."
"You know it. My turn to pick, your turn to pay." Jesse's eyes crinkling with his smile was the last thing Liam saw before the patient was wheeled in.
A flurry of noise heralded the doors swinging open, and the EMTs rushed in, surrounding a gurney. Clothes had already been stripped away, leaving dark, scarred, bloodied skin open for scrutiny. Gloved hands and gauze kept deep, vicious wounds from letting blood rush forward. Long, black hair was tied back, and equally dark eyes were open and dazed. They wandered, lingering on faces, seemingly trying to follow the ping-pong match of orders and answers.
Liam fell into step with his colleagues as they swapped with the EMTs, replacing their hands and whisking the whole crowd down the hall to the trauma bay. They poked and prodded, setting IV lines and attempting to get answers from the man they worked on as they walked—no one seemed to mind when he couldn't quite answer.
The trauma bay doors swung open to let them into the pristine room, and Liam saw Jesse dart to the blood products. "Grabbing O-negative, two liters."
"Good, good, get the warmer going too. We don't need him going hypothermic." Liam called as the trauma surgeon started to scrub in. "And help Doctor Gene gown up."
He looked to Mariano then as the gurney came to a stop and Doctor Gene spoke up. "Doctor Beryl, start getting him under. His name is Mariano Ortiz."
"On it." Liam pressed sticky leads onto Mariano's skin, then pulled the oxygen mask from his respirator forward, catching Mariano's attention. "I'm Doctor Beryl, I'll be your anesthesiologist." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jesse double-checking the blood was being warmed and the infusion rate was set properly. "All you have to do is breathe and count backwards from ten."
Mariano didn't try to pull away, but Liam saw the peaks and valleys of his already-too-quick heartbeat quicken further. "Hey, hey, it's alright. You don't have to stay awake anymore." He said, pressing the cushioned plastic over Mariano's nose and mouth. "I'll be right next to you the whole time that you're asleep. Close your eyes, Mariano."
Mariano's expression never changed, but Liam smiled behind his mask as he watched him purposely take a deeper breath. Dark eyes grew visibly heavier, fluttering like his lashes suddenly weighed a ton. "That’s it. We have you." Not seconds later, he was asleep, and Liam shifted his attention to the monitors. He watched Mariano fall into deeper sleep, reaching to start tapering the sedative dose into something less heavy.
"Alright, he's under." Liam called, Doctor Gene began to take over and the techs began to swarm again. Electricity filled the air, everyone focused on their specific tasks, guided by Doctor Gene's easy demeanor.
"Analgesics being administered now, paralytic following."
"Let's find this bleed then, start the suction."
"Should we set up the curtain?"
"No, it'll be fine. We can't waste any more time."
Liam let it all fall away, his attention fixed on making sure that Mariano was breathing well as the others worked. Once his airway was secured and he saw that the respirator was doing its job, Liam sat back. Doctor Gene had the most intense job, but the junior doctors didn't call him the hospital's bloodhound for nothing.
Mariano picked a good day to get stabbed three times, at least.
He kept glancing between his three points of concern in regular intervals. Five seconds on his monitors, five on the actual machinery, then five on Mariano's face, always on the lookout for changes. It was routine. Familiar. It kept everyone who came through the operating room safe.
Thirty minutes in, Jesse spoke up. "...Does he look tense?"
One of the others hummed. "Maybe, what was his weight?"
"Two-seventy-one." Jesse answered. "Should we dose him a little more with the painkillers, Doctor Gene?"
"Yes, please. Ten more milligrams, to be on the safe side."
Liam gave the painkillers, watching how Mariano almost immediately started to relax again, then glanced back at the monitors. The numbers were looking good, he was breathing well, and color was even starting to return to his face with the fresh blood circulating through him. Liam breathed just a little bit easier.
Another page came through, almost making him jump. "Emergency Room" it read. "God dammit--" Liam groaned. "We have another coming in, someone keep an eye on the monitors, Doctor Gene knows what to do if he starts to decline."
He hurried out, tossing his gloves as he did in favor of new ones. The ambulance arrived, Liam accompanied the patient back, and after getting them under so that their broken tibia could be reset, he hurried back towards the first trauma bay. With the snap of fresh, clean gloves, Liam took his place at Mariano's shoulder again, and his heart almost stopped.
Almost-black met Liam's eyes, searching, pleading almost. Mariano was awake. His pulse was speeding up. Mariano was afraid. He needed to move. If he didn't fix this, his patient might be traumatized.
Why hadn't anyone noticed?
"Hey Mariano, I see you. We had another emergency come in, but I'm here again." He said, leaning closer and resting a hand on his forehead. His voice was far, far steadier than he felt. He shifted himself to block Mariano's view of his own opened, bloodied body. "Eyes on me, now, I'm the prettiest person here anyway. I'm gonna help you get back to sleep."
Dark eyes locked onto Liam's and he nodded at Mariano. "That's it, I'm going to take care of you, just like I promised." He reached his free hand over to the IV bag that held the anesthetic cocktail. "This is going to hit you in just a few seconds, close your eyes now."
Mariano hesitated, and Liam started sliding his thumb along his brow. Back and forth, like he was trying to soothe a kitten to sleep, Liam kept up the predictable, gentle motion. He eased the dosage upwards, eyes switching between Mariano's face and the monitor showing his vitals. "I'm going to try to make sure that you don't remember this, I know it's not fun." Mariano's eyes started to drift closed again, and Liam felt his own heart start to relax.
He only leaned back again with a sigh when he was sure that Mariano was properly under again.
"C'mon Beryl, you know I'm the real beauty queen here." Doctor Gene teased, before his voice softened. "Sorry we didn't catch that."
"Well--can't say I blame you, those stabs were deep. It happens." Liam admitted. "How's he looking?"
"Just about got him done, then we'll head over for a CT, make sure nothing else is waiting to rear its head. Are you coming with?"
"The other one's a broken leg, and Anise has it locked down until the on-call gets here." Liam kept his hand on Mariano's forehead, watching as Doctor Gene started stitching up the last stab wound. "So yeah, I can actually keep my promise, now."

To never being parted (final chapter)
This is Chapter 5 (and final Chapter) of the mini sequel to my flower cards inspired Kitty Fan Fic “Am I Forgotten?”
AO3 Link here.
It’s a sex scene - and yes I am blushing as I post this - so if you are not in for R-rated sexytimes, don’t click the keep reading tag…
****
Kit opened his bedroom door and froze.
Ty was lying on his bed, his back to him. He was only wearing his boxer shorts, and his long legs were tangled in the blanket, its white color melting with Ty’s alabaster complexion. Kit could not help but smile at the way Ty always took things so literally.
Kit moved soundlessly to stand next to the bed. For a moment, he just watched Ty, observed the way his chest rose and fell with each of his soft exhalations. He was so beautiful that Kit was afraid to touch him only to discover that he wasn’t real. He was wearing his headphones on and Kit could hear the low sound of music emanating from them.
Kit took a deep breath before he shed all his clothes and lay down next to Ty, entirely naked. As he gently removed Ty’s headphones from his ears, Kit could hear the music louder and more distinctly.
He looked around to find Ty’s phone on the bedside table. The mobile phone screen showed that the music playing was Gnossienne N°1 by Erik Satie. Kit moved his arm over Ty’s body to press the pause button but his aim wasn’t perfect and he ended up launching the next song. It was from Erik Satie as well, a song called “Je Te Veux.” He wasn’t fluent in French, but he knew enough to translate the words. I Want You. He couldn’t help but smile at the irony.
He tried a second time and managed to pause the music. As he withdrew his hand from the bedside table, Kit was startled as he caught a pair of silver gray eyes staring at him.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
“You didn’t.”
Kit started stroking Ty’s exposed arm, with a light touch of his fingers. He wanted to feel Ty’s skin against his, to share their heat.
He edged closer to Ty, until there was no space left between them. Ty could probably feel Kit’s arousal against his back, but Kit didn’t care. Not after everything that had happened between them.
He heard Ty’s sharp intake of breath. “Something wrong, Ty?” he asked, dreading the answer.
“No,” Ty whispered. “You can come closer.”
Kit laughed, making both their bodies shake. “I can’t come closer than that. I really can’t. You know that. I am as close as I can be, unless…”
Kit felt heat rushing to his face and his heart fluttering in his chest as he processed. He swallowed hard.
Ty said nothing. He reached for the drawer of Kit’s nightstand and Kit shivered at the sudden loss of heat. It did not take long, and Kit felt all the blood in his body rush to his groin as he saw what Ty had retrieved. A condom. How the hell did he know where to…? Never mind.
“I… I don’t know how to use this.” Ty’s voice was barely a whisper. “Theoretically, I do. But I never had the chance to practice…”
“It’s okay,” Kit choked, wondering how he had found his voice. He took the condom and put it on with shaking fingers, as Ty turned to watch with an academic interest.
Ty shed the last piece of clothing separating them, then went back to his former position, his back against Kit’s bare torso, as if he could not make himself look at Kit. Kit caught a glimpse of Ty’s red cheeks before he turned his face away.
“Er… Ty, I am not going to go anywhere like this, let me…” Gently, Kit directed Ty so that he was half kneeling half lying, his legs slightly parted.
Kit caressed Ty’s length with one hand, while the other held Ty’s, their fingers interlocking. After a little while, he used his hand to direct himself and close the gap, breaking the last barrier between them. As he started to move inside Ty, he felt Ty stiffen, saw his eyes widening and his lips parting in surprise, and froze.
“Do you want me to stop? I can stop at any time if you don’t feel like going further.”
“No,” said Ty, in a muffled voice, as he squeezed his eyes shut, buried half his face in the pillow and clutched the material tightly with his hands. “Don’t stop.”
Kit pushed further inside Ty, but slowly, taking his time, all the while murmuring to Ty that everything was okay, that he loved him, that he was beautiful. That he could say no at any time.
Ty didn’t answer. His face was still turned away, and Kit felt him relax little by little, as he feathered kisses across Ty’s shoulder, against his neck, buried his face in Ty’s hair.
When Kit was fully embedded, shivers of unbidden pleasure ran up his spine and he stopped moving.
Holy shit. Sweet Mary, Mother of God. This felt like… Heaven. So good. Too good… Kit was going to be finished before it had even started.
He shook his head sharply, trying to clear it. This could not happen. Think, think about something gross. Mantid Demons. Ravener Demons. Drevak demons. Disgusting little beasts.
“Ty,” he said, holding still. “Ty, I am sorry I just need a little moment. To… to get my bearings.”
“It’s okay,” Ty replied, in a soothing tone, his voice muffled against the pillow. “So do I.”
Kit came back to his senses. Ty would not mind. This was not about performance. This was just two people in love with each other, trying to be as close as they could possibly be. If they could melt into each other, so would they.
A flash of memories. Their fifteen-year-old selves in Cornwall. Their eighteen-year-old selves in a nightclub. “I don’t mind if it’s you.”
I don’t mind if it’s you, Ty. I don’t mind if it’s you.
Kit started pressing his hips against Ty with a renewed purpose, each of his thrusts eliciting a drowning noise from Ty, until Ty suddenly moved with him, instinctively, and they both moved together, blissful heat building up through their intertwined bodies.
As Kit now welcomed the waves of pleasure rolling over his entire body, he murmured encouragement in Ty’s hair, telling him he was doing great, telling him how good it felt to be inside him. How perfect.
Ty’s raspy moans grew louder and louder, his long fingers clutching the sheets, until he choked, “Kit- I can’t… I can’t think... I am losing control.” And he did lose it. Kit felt Ty’s whole body tense as he released himself in the bedsheets with a savage groan.
It was all Kit needed to reach his own orgasm, a second after Ty, his legs shaking and his eyes blurring with tears, as he buried his face in Ty’s hair. He cried some words he couldn’t make out through the blood pounding in his ears and poured himself inside his condom.
Kit withdrew himself and rolled onto his back, breathing deeply to regain his normal heartbeat. Ty turned to watch him through his long eyelashes, his eyes half closed. His cheeks were flushed, his hair tousled, and he looked absolutely breathtaking. One of the corners of his mouth lifted, as if he found something entertaining.
“What?” asked Kit, smiling in turn, though his breathlessness.
“When you… you kept calling my name. My full name. Tiberius.”
“I did?” asked Kit. “Well, it is a beautiful name. So are you. Beautiful, I mean. That was my very first thought the first time we met.”
“You mean, when I was holding a knife to your throat?” Ty asked, one of his eyebrows raised. He sounded dubious.
“Exactly,” Kit replied, grinning. “You were holding a knife to my throat, and all I could think of was how beautiful you were. Come to think of it, it does make me sound shallow.”
“I think you are beautiful,” Ty said. “Does that make me shallow?” He cocked his head. He seemed genuinely curious and Kit could not help but feel touched.
“Of course not, Ty. It only means you have excellent taste.”
Ty chuckled.
They were now lying on the mattress facing each other. Ty’s head rested on his hands, brought together as if in a prayer. Kit stroked Ty’s cheek and brought Ty’s head against his neck, so he could kiss his forehead.
“The first time we met…” Ty said. “I saw the defiance in your eyes, the pride with which you held yourself, although you were a mundane – or so I thought – with a knife against his throat. You even fought back and got me to lose my hold on you for a moment, although you had absolutely no training. I was struck then by how brave you were. And I must admit, I looked into your blue eyes and, for the first time in my life, realized that I liked what I saw.”
“It’s strange to look back and realize that the people I thought were invading my home were… in fact, my real home.”
“Is that what you believe?” Ty asked. Both his eyebrows raised, and Kit saw a flicker of hope in his eyes. “So you are never going to leave me again?”
“Are you kidding? Now that I know what it feels like to be inside you, I am going to move in and live there.”
Ty gasped.
“I am messing with you, Ty. I am not speaking literally. This would be…”
“Technically impossible?” Ty offered. Kit chuckled.
“On a more serious note, I would love it if we moved in together. Someday. When you are ready.”
Ty’s breath hitched.
“You really mean it? You are never going to leave me again?”
Kit kissed Ty’s forehead.
“To never being parted, Ty.”
“To never being parted, Kit.”
*****
Two hours later, Kit was roused from his sleep by urgent kisses on his eyelids, nose, cheeks… A bite on his… earlobe?
He opened one blurry eye. Ty was lying on top of him, his expression eager. He did not seem one bit tired. Kit could even feel Ty’s hardness against his stomach.
“What is it, Ty?” Kit mumbled in a sleepy daze. “In case you were wondering, that was me sleeping.”
“Let’s do it again,” said Ty, sounding excited.
“What time is it?” Kit groaned, rubbing his eye.
“3:17 AM,” Ty answered, as if he had said 8 PM and was wondering what all the fuss was about.
Kit sighed. Blackthorns. He should have known. Why on earth did he have to fall in love with a Blackthorn?

medical draaaaaama with @consultingsister
SEVERIN
Severin Moran was supposed to be a doctor. He was supposed to be helping people. Five years of schooling, two years in the army, one treating frontline patients in crisis points to...  being benched behind a desk to run budgets for each department, trying it squeeze pennies here and there just to make ends meet. He got to see a handful of patients, if any. Coming home was supposed to be more than this. He missed A&E more than he could possibly admit, and right now it was weighing on his shoulders more than usual. He used to have full faith in people. In her specifically. Cecelia Holmes was respected, brilliant and a once in a generation surgeon but adjusting the life support of a patient was… grounds for termination. Not to mention her being struck off.
The pager had practically vibrated off of his desk.
Crash on London Bridge, three casualties, multiple passers by injured. Once dead on the scene. He wore scrubs constantly, just in case for the awful moments like this when he had to sprint down to the first floor and prove himself. The son had made it into triage by the time he arrived, the second and third casualties still under assessment when the daughter began to code. The head of the emergency room should have handled it, but he was closer. He was the official call in this moment. John Watson grabbed the shock cart, more people moving around them to try and support the situation. He ignored the two Sebastian Morans at the emergency room doors, everything else melted into he background.
Third shock, almost twenty full minutes of chest compression and he absolutely refused to call it. He kept going, the muscles in his arms burning but he couldn’t give it up. Long enough for someone to page Cecelia. He didn’t even notice in the fray, he was too focused on the patient. Early twenties, brown matted hair, heavy streaked eyeliner and-
The ringing of the heart monitor and the call of the alarms meant nothing. He had to keep going.
CECELIA
Celia loved a panic. It was sick, she knew but she also knew that almost every doctor on the floor felt the same, whether they admitted it or not. It was a time to prove yourself; it make your heart best like nothing else on the earth. And Cee was riding high. She had been in with of the first casualty; the medics were ready to call it but she met them all the door. While male, thirty-two, glass shards making their way to his heart.
It was almost too easy; she didn’t even need to bring him into surgery.
It was odd to see Celia on the floor in scrubs. It was almost like it’s own alarm bell. Cecelia Holmes has taken off her heels, run for cover. A car crash was also a wonderful distraction from thinking too much about what Sev was going to do. Which weighed more? His love for her or his moral code. Cee used to love that he was a good person, unwavering in it, but now it felt like another roadblock to her success.
She was in between check ups when she got the page. A small gathering at the door, as if there wasn’t anything better to look at. She didn’t need the whispered explanation from Nurse Emma. She could see it in his face, sweat dripping from his forehead. Twenty minutes in. There was nothing left to save. “Clear the room,” she barked. Then her voice softened. “Severin...” her eyes flash to John, then to the two nurses who remained. Down with the ship, she guesses. “Sev.”
A little firmer, she tries again, this time reaching for his shoulder. “Doctor Moran. You have to call time of death. There is nothing you can do now. Step away, take a breath, call it.” She speaks as if it’s easy. “Sev.... you can stop now.” SEVERIN He didn't even hear her barking orders in an emergency room that wasn't hers to control. He simply kept on going. Saying his name wasn't going to pull him away from the job at hand, he had to help people, he had to do... something. Initially he leant backwards at the hand on his shoulder, letting himself be moved so carefully. But he didn't take a breath. He turned to face Cecelia, glassy eyed and hands still shaking with adrenaline. It was his call. And he couldn't save anyone. "Time..." He started out with his voice unsteady, swallowing before he could carry on. He puffed up his chest, his eyes momentarily dropping tot he floor before his brow tightened and all the fury was back in his body again. Severin brushed her hand away roughly, shoving past her to stand next to John. "Time of death 19:57."
He wasn't about to hang around for a lecture she had no right to give. What was she even doing there?
CECELIA
She wasn’t used to being at the receiving end of... what? His bad mood? Sounds a little flat. His hatred? She could hardly bear the thought. He was always sweet with her. Even after the baby, the weeks that bled into months where was cold, dismissive, sometimes outright cruel. He forgave and forgot. It wouldn’t be so simple this time.
She turned back to John but he stopped her, “I’ve got this. Go.”
“I owe you.” She moved quickly from the room. Second sign of an emergency; Cecelia Holmes running. “Doctor Moran.”
It still sounded funny in her mouth to call him doctor. Maybe she still saw him as the kid from her biology class; maybe that was the problem. Cee needed to adapt, needed to see him as a doctor, her boss. Only technically. “Doctor, can I please speak with you? Where are you going?”
SEVERIN
He didn’t stop. He just kept moving, waiting for her to follow him into a completely empty OR, not that he had planned it well. His pager wasn’t going off so he couldn’t claim to be urgently needed elsewhere, his anger and frustration piling on in heaps. He had been so good at staying calm and collected before he came back to work here. With her.
“Don’t.” He didn’t want to see her right now, let alone be forced to listen to stupid justification as to why his saviour complex got in the way of him actually doing his job. “You don’t get to lecture me on life and death, what the hell do you fucking know?”
Severin rallied, rounding on her with those icy eyes that gave away his inner turmoil. He was quiet, despite his rage. Enough so that nothing would carry back to a busy ER.
“You don’t get to speak with me, not now.”
CECELIA
“I know!” Cee wasn’t do adept at keeping her voice down. Sev’s anger was always icy when hers was fire. Hot, unstoppable; people were likely to get burnt. She pressed her lips together, trying to keep it together. “I know that the best thing I could have done for Jennier Ried was let her die on my table. Or, better yet, not have pushed for the surgery at all so she could have died at home, with her family, peacefully. But instead, because of my pride, I kept her alive when it was her time to go. And now she is a fucking vegetable, Sev! With her mother coming in every single fucking day. Losing a child is hard but this...”
She gave a growl of frustration, covering her face and turning away from him. She should tell him it was a mistake; a bad decision made at the end of a long shift. That she was grateful that he stopped her. Even if it was a lie. It was save her career, it would save their relationship.
Cee turned back, closing the space between them. “You weren’t saving that patient. They were gone Sev, you were trying to save yourself. Everyone in that room knew it.”
SEVERIN
"No. No the best thing you could have done was stick to letter of the law.  There are rules Cecelia. You cannot make yourself the arbiter of life and death, although how would you know? It's not like you have ever had that control taken away from you." He snarled. There was hardly two feet between them.
He reached out for her shoulder, pulling her to face him again. No, she didn't get to do this.
"I don't need saving. I am fine, I'm the only sane one here."
Severin pushed her, heading straight for the doors of the OR as if he was ready to head straight back to work.
CECELIA
“You are drowning, Moran.”
She knows because she’s been there herself. She knows because putting him in the position to keep her secrets was as good as shoving him under the water. She moved past him quickly, leaning against the door. He could easily move her, she knew that, but she hoped it would be enough.
“You have been since you came back to London. Fighting with Bash, you’ve been short with interns. I have never seen you like this. I fucked up, I know that! I know I am making your life hard, but please, I can help. This can’t go on, Sev. It’s a race to see who you kill first; yourself or.a patient.”
SEVERIN
“I have to be fine, because I clearly can’t trust anyone. Look at you, I had total faith and you just...”
He stopped dead in his tracks, glaring her down completely. It was hilarious now how many times he could think he had hit breaking point only to realise there was still deeper he could sink to.
“How would you know? You shut me out. You didn’t care when things were at their worst, stop acting like you care now. It’s not going to change my mind, you pretending that there’s a second chance just to save your bloody career. You need to move.”
CECELIA
"Don't you dare, don't you fucking dare." Without meaning to, without even realising she was doing it, she shoved him. He was right that Cecelia didn't like losing control but she was wrong that she never did. "I have never ever cared more than when we lost--" her throat constrict.
"Yes, I shut you out afterwards but that was not because i did not care. I didn't know how to handle how much I cared, Sev. I lost your baby. And I could do nothing, say nothing to bring her back for you. But you left, you picked a war zone over staying with me."
She doesn't want to cry but she can feel the sharp stinging at the corner of her eyes. "I do care now, I cared then and I care now. Fire me, honestly, if that will lift a weight off your shoulders but you know I made good calls, nine out of ten times, I made a good call even if it's not textbook."
SEVERIN
Severin stepped backwards. This was hardly enough to break through to him, even with how much the admission had cost her emotionally. “Really? You put your career first, and always. Clearly above patients. Clearly above us, any chance there was here? It’s gone. Don’t question my calls, don’t undermine me in front of my staff. I am your boss. Remember that.”
He didn’t even want to hear it. “I left to do my god damn job, now step aside.”
CECELIA
"I am willing to lose my job to give a family some peace, Sev. How the hell is that putting my career first?" She knew her argument was weak. What Celia called colouring outside the lines most would call gross negligence. She stands taller against the door, bracing herself.
"No." Her hand wrapped around the door handle and she realised she might even be a little scared of him. Just last week she'd watched him subdue a drink man twice his size in A&E, he could throw her across the room if he wanted to.
SEVERIN
Head shaking, he stepped back again. He moved to the operating table, pressing his palms to it with a deep breath in order to press out some of the anger. He couldn’t do this right now. In a flash, he kicked out tossing a tray across the room in a clattering racket before huffing like an idiot.
His hands moved to his face, his fingers pressing into the flesh with the stress. “I need to get out there before they loose anyone else. Let me go.”
CECELIA
"You have not been paged, I have not been paged. You are not currently in a fit state to look to patients and I have no intention on letting you leave before you have calmed down."
She gripped onto the door handle tighter, trying not to shake. Strike that, she was a lot scared. She had jumped as the tray hit the floor but now moved forward, away from the door, pulling hands hand away from his face and replacing them with her own. "Look at me, look at me Sev. You cannot save everyone. Not everyone lives. Not my patient, not yours. Not the baby. Not Alex. But so many do live. So many people have gone on to live because of what you did for them. Me included Sev. I am only alive today because of you. You saved me. Let me help you, please."
SEVERIN
“What are you going to do for me, huh?” He pulled away again, pacing like a caged animal. He needed to be busy and just... not think.  “How’s putting me in positions were there is no right choice going to help?!”
Severin hadn’t told a soul, and it was the very first time he had disobeyed his own moral code. There was flexibility when it came to the law and high pressure situations but not this.
“I can’t think straight around you. Sam is right, you get in my head. And you just...”
He stopped DEAD IN HIS TRACKS, closing his eyes to breathe in deep through his nose and out through his mouth slowly. “The last thing I want from you right now is whatever your idea of help is.”
CECELIA
“Jessica is brain dead and I am the best surgeon on your staff. You saw me with my hand on the switch, that’s it. There is a right choice.” She almost instantly regretted that. She was right, but it wouldn’t help. Cee moved towards him again.
“Sam is not right. After your punch up with Bash, who did you come see? You said it yourself, you sleep better in my bed. How can you tell me I don’t help?”
It’s a risky move but she stops him, hands back on his face, she kisses him. Hard and urgent, desperate to the through to him. “I love you, i love you. Don’t leave me. I love you.”
Even Cecelia isn’t sure what she is more panicked about; losing him or losing her job but the two seem connected now. It’s their fourth year all over again and her planned future is going down the drain. “I love you”.
SEVERIN
She was the best surgeon on his staff, that he couldn’t argue with. Largely because she took the risks no one else wanted to. It was infuriating that she could be so damn right all the time.
The kiss made him want to relent, forget the chaos going on around them and just kiss her back. Only it wasn’t that simple. Severin lingered longer than he should have, kissing her back with as much frustration and urgency as she had. He slept better in her head, he found life easier by her side but this hurt deeply. Not just her actions, but confronting him like trying to do his all was the wrong move.
“No- no. Don’t say that. Not now.” She knew the buttons she was pressing and this time around he wouldn’t play into her hands so easily. Severin pulled away, pulling her hands down from his face.
“You can’t love me when it’s convenient for you.”
CECELIA
The OR light bounced from the table and onto her face, reminisce of the lighting in black and white movies. She twisted her mouth and her eyes gleamed. She thought she had worked it out this time. Done the right maths. Right time, right place. They could make it work this time.
But he was still Sev and she was still Cee. Not enough had changed. Or everything had, she couldn't tell.
She opened her mouth but a incessant beeping from her waist band cut her off. Looking dow to her check her message, she sniffs. "Loving you... is absolutely never convenient for me. I just do it anyway." She looks into his face and smiles saddly. "We have to go. Second wave."
SEVERIN
Her pager beeped. His was completely silent. He didn’t break his concentration on her face, trying to understand where he should even be in this mess. If she had said those three little words at any other point then he’d be over the moon. The problem lay in the delay, that now apparently there was weight to them.
“Debrief me before you leave.” He still knew it was stupid to send her into surgery unsupervised be he really didn’t have a choice.  “I have a family to call.”
CECELIA
"Sir yes sir." Her smile grew tight. How could he treat her like she was a liability? Her almost perfect track record of general surgery. Who else on her level had that?
The next five hours are a blur. Two minor procedures, one surgery, one shower. By the time she's found him in his office, she's out of scrubs and back in her power suit, heels on, ready for her own battle. She knocks, even though the door is open. "Did I ever tell you I applied for this job when you did? I mean--- thank god I didn't get it. It's sort of make you a dick." Her pleading tone is gone. She's pissed at him. It feels like he is holding her job over her head.
"I'm here you to tell you I didn't kill anyone today. Same as yesterday, same as the day before. I even managed to fit in a scheduled surgery, which brought int he hospital about... hm, ten thousand in billable hours, I think? I'm not an accountant, but I think that's my going rate."
SEVERIN
He should have stopped her. This wasn't about oversight, in fact, he was too invested in a family that had lost two members in one day- in spite of his attempt to help. He wanted to know that there was a chance the other two made it to the end of his shift.
Severin watched her move through the doors, and away from the emergency room. His first call was to Sam, to put him on the ground. Right now, the poor second would be starting his shift with a fresh mind and fresher hands. It was going to be easier on both of them.
He insisted on calling the relatives himself, trying to bury himself in the budget and not watch the hours tick by. He'd managed it, well, his eyelids were drooping as the knock on the door cut through his thoughts.
"Right." His steam had blown off entirely, calmer again. Almost rational. "That sounds about right. I've been running the numbers so I can believe it."
Severin stood up, hands shoved awkwardly in his pockets in a way that would seem achingly familiar. His head tilted awkwardly, charmingly. As if he had never lost his cool. "I think we need to talk, don't you?"
CECELIA
Cecelia paused in the doorway, stuck between an adult and telling him to suck it. However, in the best interests of her own career, she took off her coat and closed the door behind her.
She wishes she had something smart to say, she seems to for everything else but all she can think to say is... you look tired. She wants to take him into leaving with her, maybe even taking some holiday time like normal people. "I meant everything I said before but I can't-- I cannot lose my job Sev. St Thomas' would never sign off on you letting me go so you'd have to have me struck off. Are you seriously considering that?"
SEVERIN
He leant against his desk, propping himself up.
"Just -listen." He raised a hand, trying to get her to give him time. Tired was one way to put it. Total and complete exhaustion was another.
"We've been fighting, in one way or another since I go here. I'm not saying I didn't deserve some of it, but somewhere along the line- we made a good team." Late night study sessions right up to trial parenting. There was nothing they couldn't do, as long as the did it together. Maybe in the months of moving around each other, he'd lost sight of what the real goal was.
"I need to trust you to work with me. You love me, then you know I've only ever got your best interest. And the patients, because there's a situation where the two aren't exclusive." This was the biggest risk of his career, and maybe more. What other alternative was there? He couldn't report her, it was just not going to happen. "I am not going anywhere alright? I love you, but don't use it against me."
CECELIA
A weight lifts. The sky clears. She moved to the door and back to the desk; he’s not going to tell! She should be more sorry, more solemn but she can’t help but. She wants to shout out! She’s keeping her job!
“Yes, I promise. I love you, I really do.” She covers her face with her hands to hide her grin. They’re parents, of course he wasn’t going to let her go. She stares at him for a moment and then laughs, a mister of relief and something else.
“Look at you... behind a desk... pushing papers and working out budgets. That’s... that’s sick.” No wonder he is losing his mind.
SEVERIN
The relief was palpable, but he wasn't finished. "Wait. It's not that simple. Brain dead or otherwise, that's never your call to make. This ever happens again, I'm reporting us both. I can't let you do that Cee. I'm not asking you to be sorry, but I am asking you to promise me that will never, ever happen in my operating rooms again. Am I clear?"
He kept his voice steady, his posture loose. He was very much pulling the boss card, but trying to make it look like there was something more than work that was driving him. This was a huge mistake, the issue was that that the alternative didn't bare thinking about.
"Pays well. Paperwork or CPR, that's what I seem t have signed up for." His blonde hair was growing lighter around the sides, his laughter lines deeper in the dim evening light as it shifted into the early hours of the morning. Just because he wore his weariness well didn't make it any less obvious.
"Starting to see why the job was so available. Poor Lelia, I'm pretty sure she's reserved a bed in the psych ward for the day I finally push her over the edge."
CECELIA
"I promise I will never put you through this again. Ever. With anything." It wasn't a lie, per se, but it wouldn't have made it harder to say even if it was. She would say anything she needed to, as long as he allowed her to cut. To heal someone more optimistic might say. But she would be careful. She would make good, by the book decisions, for a couple months and she wouldn't allow herself ot be in the position again of having a brain dead patient.
She moved around his desk, pulling his arms around her. "You're very clear. And you're very bossy. You're right, I need to stop seeing you as my study-buddy and start seeing you as my boss. Only technically," she allows another grin to grow on her rep lips. "And only when we're here."
Cee wished she couldn't hear the little voice in her head, the wicked nagging little sound that she was sure she inherited from her father. You've got him wrapped around your finger, you're safe now, clever you. It wasn't fair. This wasn't planned. She wasn't going to take advantage of this, of him. She could be better with him.
"I think we're all going going there eventually. Or to hell, I don't know which I'd prefer."
SEVERIN
It wasn’t lost on him that her career was the only constant in her life. She had used it as ammunition to push him away, her only real defiance against her father. When they had pulled apart, she had sought refuge in it. If it came down to a choice...
Severin let himself be moved into holding her, even if it wasn’t exactly what he wanted right now. It was impossible to read her, and even worst to be stuck second guessing her motivations. Of course this was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
“Makes a change, doesn’t it?” He pressed his forehead against hers with a heavy sigh. “Don’t know either. Depends how much paperwork there is in hell. It’s bad excel has me missing Helmand, right?”
He moved back for peace and quiet, and yet in the year he had been here it has been anything but. Constant battles with family, with the board, with Sam.. he was a very different person to the easy going doctor that had agreed to the position. How could helping people twist him up like this?
“I think it’s safe to say today wasn’t subtle. And that I owe John and apology for acting like a prat in his emergency room.”
CECELIA
As his forehead lent against hers, she knew she was safe. Maybe for the rest of her career. It was an accident, in fact she had ever intention of not going near Severin Moran ever again but--
"These things happen." She lifted her chin to kiss his head and then leant against him again. "I've seen John lose it with interns more times than I can count. Even doctors have bad days and A&E seems to get the brunt of it." Even she, infallible Cecelia, had lost her cool once or twice.
"We should get away-- oh, we should go to Italy! Take a whole week off, forget this place even exists. No beepers, no excel, no Bash or Seb!" She gives a little giggle. "Come on, boss."
SEVERIN
It was torture to know he hadn't even finished for the day. He also wanted to head to the ICU, check on the family himself since she didn't seem to have any news. Severin softened further, the tension in his shoulders dropping at her gentle kiss in a way that showed at leas the physical stress had left his body. She was right. A&E was always where tensions were highest, he knew that from his own experience. If that had been his department back in Bristol though he would want to have a chat and make sure all was fine. Maybe he could grab a pint... if it wasn't nearly 2am again. One day he would leave here at a reasonable hour.
"We should." A trip back to paradise would be a welcome break. Maybe if he did a trade off, left Sam for a week and gave him a week in return... "I think that would be perfect. I've got another half hour, you should head home. No point waiting for me, I'm going to be awful company..."
He'd still head back to her flat, slip in quietly and close his eyes for a few hours. Better than the mattress on the floor and empty fridge he was living with in Bermondsey.

Crossing Paths - 909AD - Wessex
Notes: I know! Look! Back to this old bean for a bit of variety :D Also, this story covers two dates - 909AD and 947AD - which technically fit between Mercia (902AD), Priesca (917AD) and Lake Chad (978AD). The full chronological chapter index is here :)
909AD – Baltonsborough, Wessex
“Oh for Heaven’s sake!”
Crowley tilted his head to peer out of the deep shadow of his hooded tunic. It wasn’t the brightest of nights, lit by a single blade of light spilling holily from the partly-open doors of the church, bringing the smell of candlewax and incense with it. “Angel? S’that you?”
“Who else would be able to spot you?” Aziraphale demanded. “What on earth are you doing here?”
Crowley jerked his thumb towards the open doorway. “Got to put on a show for that lot. Waiting for my cue. You?”
The angel’s lips pursed. “The same,” he admitted and Crowley carefully and deliberately squashed down the temptation to point out they were both mucking around in the same place yet again. It happened a lot and they both knew it. No point flogging the same dead horse.
“Anyone in particular?” he inquired. “Or just a general flash of lights, glowy eyes, whoooo, mystic spiritual intervention sort of thing?”
“Um.” The angel fidgeted, tugging at the collar of – oh for Satan’s sake. He was wearing a bleeding cassock. That meant undercover, which meant it wasn’t even anything dramatic. Probably just some daft little blessing he could have done with one hand tied behind his back and standing on his head.
“C’mon,” Crowley coaxed, grinning. “How bad can it be?”
“It’s just one person, technically,” Aziraphale admitted. “A young lady. I have to make sure she is… very blessed. On behalf of her soon-to-be-child.” He peeked in at the church, the light casting a golden glow over his face. “Her name’s Cynethryth.”
“Sounds like a sneeze.” Crowley straightened up, listening. “Ah, hold on a tick… that’s my cue.” A sharp snap of his fingers sent a torrent of bitterly cold wind gusting at the doors. They crashed inwards and the wind whirled through the church, extinguishing every single candle and plunging the building into darkness.
People were screaming and gabbling prayers in a panic and he heard the angel sigh.
“Oh, really, Crowley.” He snapped his fingers. “Let there be light…”
The sense of panic and terror evaporated and Crowley felt the ripple of awe and wonder pouring out of the building.
“Angel…” He swung around, glaring at the wide-eyed Aziraphale. “Did you just… undo what I did?”
“Not… precisely,” Aziraphale said sheepishly. “I relit Cynethryth’s candle. That’s all.”
That’s all. Room of darkness, all candles snuffed out, and one miraculously popped back to life.
“Ugggggggggggh!” Crowley threw his head back with a groan. “Angel! I’ve been waiting here for a bloody hour and now, turns out I didn’t need to bother? I was meant to scare the living daylights out of them and everything!”
“Oh! Er… sorry, I suppose.” Aziraphale reached out consoling, then hesitated awkwardly. “Well, technically, I couldn’t have done it without you, could I?” He gave Crowley’s arm a single, careful pat. “So jolly well done.”
Crowley raised his eyebrows. “Are you trying to make me feel better?”
The angel offered a cautious smile. “Why? Is it working?”
It was so damned hard to stay annoyed with the soft idiot.
“Couldn’t say,” he said airily, though he couldn’t stop himself from grinning. He jerked his head back in the direction of the main street. “You can make it up to me with some mead.”
Aziraphale’s expression brightened. “I do like a drink with honey in it.”
“Honey, alcohol,” Crowley laughed. “Best of both. C’mon, angel.”

947 – Glastonbury
Aziraphale had always had a weakness for visiting places of love and devotion. Glastonbury was positively swimming in it, despite the old abbey still lying in ruins. The person he had come to find throbbed at the centre of the place like a heartbeat. Oh, he would do marvellous things, this young man.
The angel was so distracted by the sheer sense of peace about the place that he didn’t notice another man hopping frantically from foot to foot until he collided squarely with him and sent them both reeling.
“Ack!” The man caught his elbow as he staggered, keeping them both on their feet. “Oh! Aziraphale?”
Aziraphale stared in astonishment at the demon in holy vestments, bouncing urgently from one foot to the other. He had one hand over his face. “Crowley? Aren’t you– isn’t this sanctified ground?”
“Mm. Yeah. Bit nippy.” The demon hobbled and hopped by him. “Scuse me.”
“Oh, don’t be ridiculous!” Aziraphale hurried after him, slipping his arms behind the demon’s knees and his arms behind his back and hoisting him off the ground. Crowley yelped and clutched at him, as if he expected to… oh. To Fall. “Oh don’t worry, my dear,” Aziraphale scolded gently. “I’m not as weak as you seem to think.”
He carried the demon back to the edge of the grounds, setting him down on the road by a grassy verge.
“Ohhh.” Crowley sagged in relief. “Ow.” He clutched on Aziraphale’s arm and tilted up one foot then the other. They looked like they were clad in boots, but closer to, Aziraphale could see the patina of scales. “Don’t recommend that. Not without shoes on.”
“What on earth were you thinking, going into a church?” Aziraphale demanded, steadying him.
“Orders,” Crowley replied with a wince as he set his foot back down on the grass. He sat down heavily, stretching out his legs, and pushed back his hood.
“Oh good Lord! Your face!”
Crowley grimaced and lifted a hand to gingerly touch his nose. It was swollen and blistered on both sides. “Yeah. Had a bit of a… run-in with the lad I was sent to tempt. No one mentioned the overzealous little bugger blessed his smithing tools.”
Aziraphale stared at him, then looked over his shoulder in the direction of the church. “I don’t suppose you were there for Dunstan? The monk?”
Crowley blinked slowly. “Ahhh. Yours?”
“Mm.” Aziraphale sat down on the verge beside him. “I don’t know if you’ll remember her, but there was a young lady in Wessex a few decades ago…?”
“Sneeze-girl?”
Aziraphale nodded. “Young Dunstan is her son.”
Crowley made a grumpy sound. “Typical. Should’ve been easy. He’s been double-crossed, beaten up, tossed in a ditch to die, accused of witchcraft and everything. Should be bitter and angry and all the easiest emotions to tempt.”
“And instead, you get one set for sainthood.”
Crowley made a face, shaking his head. “I swear they do this on purpose.”
“What’s that?”
“Sending me after ones who will become all… holy.” He mournfully looked at Aziraphale. “At the rate I’m going, I’ll have the full set by the turn of the millennium.” He heaved a dramatic sigh that – Aziraphale felt – was only a little over the top. “Knowing my bloody luck, at the end of the world, I’ll get the sodding Antichrist.”
“Oh, now you’re being ridiculous,” Aziraphale said gently. “This one is only tapped for sainthood. Hardly a world-changing Messiah or anything.”
“And Yeshua was only meant to be a prophet and look where that got us,” Crowley said. He dug his toes into the grass, wiggling them. “You here for Dunstan as well?”
“A little inspiration,” Aziraphale confirmed with a nod. “He’s a very talented young man.”
Crowley carefully touched the tip of his nose. “Well, he definitely knows his way around a pair of tongs, I’ll give him that.” He was quiet for a moment. “D’you think you’ll be long?”
Aziraphale chuckled, getting back to his feet. “Probably not. As long as I don’t get the same kind of welcome as you, I may even be done before the next bells.” He considered offering Crowley a hand to help him up, then thought about his aching, probably burned feet. “Can you wait here?”
Crowley sprawled back on his elbows in the grass. “Why? What do I get?”
“Only some of the best pre-sacramental wine in the country.”
The demon’s face split in a grin. “Stealing from monks? Angel, I’m shocked.”
Aziraphale wrinkled his nose at him. “It’s not stealing when they give it to you as a gift,” he said. “And anyway, even if I did take it, it’s while on heavenly business. That technically means it could be considered a tithe.”
Crowley snickered. “Yeah,” he said, “keep telling yourself that.”
“Oh…” Aziraphale tried to glare, but from the grin on Crowley’s face, he wasn’t very convincing. “Do be quiet.”
As he turned and stamped back in the direction of St. Mary’s, he heard the demon laughing.
(For the nerds keeping tabs on me, this is St. Dunstan. ie. the Saint for the church in London wot was bombed in 1941 :D)

Boyfriend Taeyong
Tumblr media
“When I fall in love, it will be forever.  Or I’ll never fall in love. In a restless world like this is–   Love is ended before it’s begun. And too many moonlight kisses, Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun."
*Silently slides this across the table and leaves* I'll just leave this here.
.
.
Ok but
Ok ok ok
*Grabs tissues, blankets, desserts* gotta get real ready for this now
*Pushes up virtual glasses bc I always forget to wear mine shh we don't talk about that* boyfriend taeyong you say?
Well I saY GTFO I DONT WANNA DIE OF TOO MUCH FEELS SIS
Ok jk come back ere I would die everyday for one (1) human being and that's Lee Taeyong
.. wait wat
Anyway
This kid dude is literally t h e best bf you could ever have like what ????
You see all those shitty posts/texts/ads about perfect boyfriends??? Yeah just like that
Or maybe better
Way better
Taeyong would love you with A L L OF HIS HEART
He's basically a five-year-old who only sees you, and like, nothing else.
Except for chocolate but like, nothing else
Like before you guys start dating
And that would probably be a GOOD while bc this pure lil child doesn't even know what dating is (no I'm serious have you seen that article)
Srsly tho
Not just that but he seems to me like the type to take relationships very seriously
Like blind dates and one night stands wouldn't be his thing, he wouldn't fancy them and just, no
He probably believes in those fictional perfect love stories
And is well aware it might take time to find the right person and is okay with waiting his whole life for it
He just secretly hopes it's soon k
And then he meets u
And wow Lee Taeyong the quiet cold-ish dude who?
More like LEE TAEYONG THE CUTEST FLUSTERED AWKWARD BALL OF FLUFF
When he saw you the first time he could swear he got like star struck or something
He gets all flustered at everything you do and he doesn't know why
Like WHAT IS HAPPENING WHY AM I BEING LIKE THIS WHAT IS THIS
BODY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
BRAIN WHAT IS THIS MESS
HEART STOP POUNDING LIKE CRAZY OKAY THANKS
Like you smile and he's a mess, you just sit there and he's a mess, you pout and he's a mess, you look at him and he's a M E S S ™
And he doesn't even know why bc he never felt like this towards someone
He'd probably meet you through one of the members
Yuta, your close friend, finally decided to introduce you to his 'brothers'
He calls them his brothers but then it took him like three years to introduce you guys bc he's one hell of an overprotective best friend, or mom, over you
"Hey guys I can't believe I'm doing this but this is my little cute precious best friend Y/N and no you can't talk to her"
"Um yuta pls calm down"
Anyways
So the first meeting goes on great I mean the guys are all super kind and funny
And so you start meeting them more often!!
And Taeyong--
istg this kid--
Like he sees you, and some fictional chibi monster starts gnawing at his insides
#SaveLeeTaeyong2k18
Like you noticed how he's kind of quiet around you and stuff but then yuta reassured you saying he's just a bit introverted and it'd take him time to open up
Bc tbh you actually thought he didn't really fancy your presence?? Since he looked really quiet and basically expressionless? and you'd like catch him glaring holes into your head from the corner of your eye??
BUT GURL LITTLE DID YOU KNOW THAT HE IS JUST WAY TOO WHIPPED HE KEEPS STARING DROOLING AT YOU
IT'S JUST THAT HIS POKER FACE LOOKS A BIT INTIMIDATING
BUT HE'S REALLY ALL UNDER YOUR SPELL OK LIKE YOU'RE SOME FALLEN ANGEL OR IDK OK.
ANYWAYS.
So it'd take him some time to start being comfortable around you
Considering that he's an introvert; a whipped introvert to be exact
But eventually you guys will get friendlier
And that would make him know more stuff about you and wow he never thought he could like you even more but here we are ??
Also the way you take care of the dreamies just !!! Makes his heart go !!!!!!
You just find them really cute and feel the need to protect them from all evil
Also winwin, bc take notes, winwin invented cute
And how you'd be especially close to mark
And you'd be his fav noona too
Aw.
And how you're so so kind w the older guys too
And Taeyong just-- admires you so so much
Bc he loves his friends so dearly and the fact that you love them too and take care of his beloved ones makes him so happy, he just appreciates it a lot
And legit keeps staring at you from a distance with a sweet smile as you put a scarf over jisung before he goes out or you hand winwin a new book about Korean poetry that you bought for him
And then probably Johnny passes by and lightly smacks his head to wake him from his day dreams and whispers
"Dude stop that's so creepy"
Oh btw
Everyone in the dorm knows about his crush on you
E V E R Y O N E .
Probably even their pets
This child is so bad at not getting flustered at the mere thought of you someone protecc
And the guys tease him the whole time omg
Like even the younger ones
He swears to ground them like ten times a day but ends up forgetting bc he'd be so flustered
AND SO ONE DAY
You probably get left in the dorm alone w him
Don't ask me how yuta agreed to that ok I might be the author but evEN IDK K BYE.
And so you start chatting
Probably while cleaning the mess made by another seventeen wild horses
And you both find it funny how at first you were so so distant and awkward
And now here you are casually picking up chenle's underwear from the floor and throwing it with the laundry
And you tell him how you thought he was unfriendly at first and he laughs it off
And he tells you how he watched how you treated his brothers before opening up to you
And you're like ooOooOOoH so that's why, I thought you were glaring @ me and you actually hated me
And ty would literally snap like ARE YOU KIDDING ME I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS DEEP IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE MY WHOLE LIFE---
And you're like wait what
And he's like wait what.
DING! NEW LEVEL OF SOFT UNLOCKED
HE WOULD BE LITERALLY FREAKING OUT AND NOT KNOWING WHAT TO SAY HIS BRAIN WOULD BE ALL LIKE UNKNOWN ERROR ABORT MISSION A B O R T MISSIO--
"Taeyong it's okay I like you too
It's actually really relieving since I thought you didn't feel the same so I was a bit gloomy"
And then he apologizes for the misunderstanding
And at that moment jeno barges in and he's like um sorry am I interrupting something
And before you say anything he's like oh shit I'm really interrupting something sorry BYEEEE
But then he opens the door again and he's like okay ONE last question hyung did you ask her out yet
And ty is like jeNO I SWEAR TO GOD
And then when jeno leaves bc he realizes he needs to run for his life or else he'll spend the night in the streets,
It's really awkward before you're like
"so uh.. how about we grab some coffee? Like a first date?"
And taeyong tries his best to muster up a good answer until the word "date" leaves your mouth and he's like 1010101010011101 error shutdown sorry.
Anyways so you go out to this cute coffee shop and that's your first awkward date full of tingling feels and chibi monsters gnawing on your insides.
You probably frequent that coffee shop a lot more often after that
Bc coffee shop dates w taeyong are just so adorable
And he's adorable
*mark silently dragging my crying whipped ass away*
Arcade dates are also your thing
Since he's a little bit too obsessed with games
He loves museums too so he'd bring you to a lot of them
Especially art museums
And you're like why should we go when I've got a whole piece of art in front of me
And he blushes and smiles
Late late night dates
Where you just walk around like fools at like three in the morning bc neither of you could sleep
And you probably grab some ice cream
Okay I'm making it sound like you'd be such an outdoor couple when you're not lmao
Okay not rlly
But my point is that you'd prefer cuddling in bed all day over any of those
Not only in bed but really everywhere
Y'all are just so cute and soft
Skinship skinship and a lot of skinship
He can't stay like ten seconds without touching you
idk like he has to grab your hand or hug you or have you hug him or juST BE IN PHYSICAL CONTACT W YOU OK LIKE HE MIGHT DIE OR SMG OK
But there are some small cute things you notice he likes
Like back hugging you when you're doing literally anything
Like you'd be cooking or washing the dishes or freaking wiping away the dust or just looking out the window and he'd waddle to you as if his skinship'o'meter is hitting a critically low level and he needs urgent recharge
He'd then slowly wrap his arms around you so so gently yet you still feel like his whole world depends on that hug
90% of the time he'd rest his chin on your shoulder
Okay not his chin but technically press his lips against your shoulder, crook of neck, neck, collarbones, hairline, the skin behind your ear, your jawline, basically anywhere he could reach
Like they aren't even kisses his lips would just ever so softly ghost around your skin and his nose would nuzzle your crooks
You're dead if you're ticklish
He also likes intertwining fingers
Like not even all fingers but two or three
He'd love link your index and ring fingers as you walk, lay around and whenever he holds your hand which is often
He love love loves when you play with his hair
Kittyong anybody?
Esp as you praise him
Or you cup his cheeks and then your hands slowly creep to his ears and then to play with the hair on the back of his head
Or simply when you're laying down as he rests on your chest
He looooves doing that
Like he doesn't even care if you're boobless he just really loves that
Sometimes while having really deep conversations
Or when you're cheering him up if he's ever having a rough time
Like you'd gently caress his hair as you tell him all the things you love about him
If he's really really down he'd silently cry and hugs you tighter
And then end up falling asleep to your soft soothing voice and touch
He's usually very cheerful and hyper though
You'd love spending time in the kitchen tgt
Flour fights aren't that common bc he's usually tidy but they do happen so watch out
He loves cooking for you
And LOVES when you cook for him
Like even the simplest things
You don't really have to be that good at cooking like you'd crack him an egg and he'd be as happy as if you've served him a full course meal
He'd teach you how to cook but wouldn't let you do it like tf
He says to use those skills when he's not home
Although whenever he's leaving for some time he'd stack up the fridge w food that would probably last a year
Very random kisses
Like very random listen to me
You'd be like watching TV or something and he'd suddenly turn and peck your cheek then go back to watching
And you're like ?????
And he's like nothing I just wanted to do it
And you're like ????? uwu
Man I could talk about him all day but no one can afford this

The new second officer is cute, alright? Geno can’t be blamed for taking one look at him across the crew’s mess, and deciding then and there that he was going to get to know Commander Crosby.
He’s been hearing about him for ages now. He’s the youngest Starfleet graduate to assume the rank of second officer of a starship, ever. Geno’s no run-of-the mill ensign himself. He never even attended the Academy. Captain Lemieux found him on a backwater space station working for a private corporation, and offered him the opportunity of a lifetime. And here he is, second in command to the chief science officer. Everyone thinks he’ll assume the post himself within the next couple of years.
Anyway. It’s with some confidence then, that he approaches Crosby, darling of the Academy. Fuck he’s cute. Geno doesn’t know much human he’s got in him, but it’s enough to make his black hair curl charmingly around his very Vulcan ears. When Geno says his name, he looks up with these big hazel eyes that make him look incredibly disarming.
This is the most promising leader the Academy’s produced in a generation? Well. Appearances can be deceiving and all that.
“Hello,” Geno says, and gives him his most charming grin. “Nice to meet, Commander Crosby. I’m—”
“Lieutenant Malkin, I know,” Crosby says, face impassive. “I’d been meaning to make your acquaintance.”
“Oh really,” Geno says, flirtatiously. His tone is lost on Crosby.
“Yes,” he says seriously. “I wanted to speak with you about the training simulation we ran yesterday. Our performance was within the parameters of acceptable, but I had some ideas about how to best use the science division in such a scenario.”
“Er...sure,” Geno says, before getting sucked into a conversation so intense and technical it feels akin to being smacked in the face with the entire Starfleet Officer’s Handbook.
***
And that’s how the situation continues, regarding Crosby. Behind the baby face and the plush, kissable mouth lies the sharpest, most analytical mind Geno’s ever encountered, And he’s met multiple full-blooded Vulcans.
There are moments Geno can catch glimpses of the captain Crosby is undoubtedly going to be someday, and it makes his hair stand on end sometimes. He also can feel himself falling for him hopelessly. Not in a romantic way.
Or, not just in a romantic way.
He’s lying in his bunk one night, after a slightly terrifying away mission, the realization dawning that he’d follow Crosby anywhere. Die for him, even. He can tell he’s going to be a captain like Starfleet’s never seen.
And it might be sooner rather than later. Captain Lemieux is a legend, but his health isn’t what it was. There have been endless hushed conversations along the ship’s corridors and common areas, all trying to guess when Captain Lemieux will step down, and if Commander Crosby will be chosen to take his command. Geno scoffs at the speculation. Of course Crosby will be captain. There isn’t doubt in his mind.
He doesn’t know how much attention Crosby pays to the rumors. If he’s listening to them, he’s just working even harder, taking his perfectionism to even more exacting heights.
He’s not as emotionless as he pretends to be, though. Geno’s seen him whenever they have children on board, how gentle and soft he goes with them. He’s seen him calm and soothe anxious refugees, mediate interspecies disputes, and take out a hostile and attacking alien lifeform with such efficiency and skill that Geno might have… visited the image when all alone in his bunk. A… few times.
Basically, Geno is fucked. He’s Commander Crosby’s man for the rest of his life. Mostly content to serve loyally under him, without trying again to see if he’d ever look at Geno as more than his fellow officer.
If he gets a little wasted on Skagaran whiskey one night and maybe does a little crying about how Commander Crosby doesn’t love him back, well. At least he did it alone in his quarters where no one could find out.
***
The mission that results in Captain Lemieux’s retirement leaves the ship damaged and them all a little shaken. Crosby assumes the mantle of captain in sickbay, sworn in with his uniform torn and his pale face smudged with soot. His shoulders are set straight and strong, and only Geno catches the tremor in his hands and the tightness of his lips as he takes the oath. They leave Former Captain Lemieux to the care of the medical staff, and file out into the corridor.
“Wait,” Crosby says, putting a hand on Geno’s sleeve. “Lieutenant Malkin— Geno. I want to, um. To talk to you. But, not here.”
Crosby’s lips are set and pale, and he has dark circles under his eyes. “Of course,” Geno says gently. He follows Crosby to the holodeck, and waits without asking him what he’s doing as Crosby tells the computer to “run simulation 87.”
“This is my favorite,” Crosby says quietly, as the holodeck begins to shimmer around them. Geno isn't sure what he was expecting, maybe the dry red deserts of Vulcan. It certainly wasn’t a warm tropical beach, with towering palms rustling in a fragrant breeze beneath a star-drenched sky.
As soon as the simulation solidifies, Crosby’s shoulders slump, and he covers his face with his hands. He draws an awful, shuddering breath.
“I can’t do this, Geno,” he says, voice muffled and watery. “I can’t— what if—”
Geno is only human. He heart is feeling too soft and blown open to do anything but reach out to enfold Crosby— Sidney, in his arms, and pull him into his chest. Miracle of miracles, Sidney not only doesn’t pull away, he collapses into Geno, fists clenching Geno’s blue uniform shirt. Geno rests his chin on top of Sidney’s curls,
“Shhhh,” he says, restraining himself with difficulty from dropping a kiss onto Sidney’s hair. “You gonna be fine, I’m know this. Never see anything like you. You amazing, Sid. Would follow you anywhere, forever.”
“You—” Sidney leans back to look at Geno. “You think—”
“I know,” Geno says fiercely, with all the belief he has in him. Sidney stares at him, tropical stars shining in his eyes. “I say already. No matter what, would follow you anywhere. For me, my captain can only be you.”
Sidney breathes in sharply, and ducks his head back into Geno’s neck. He’s very, very still for a long moment.
Then, Geno feels him press his lips to Geno’s skin. Soft, and hesitant, two things he’s never known Sidney to be.
“Sid,” he says softly, unable to stem the raw affection and longing in his tone.
Sid doesn’t answer, only tilts his face up. “Thank you,” he says. “For— just being here.” He laughs a little, ruefully. “Here for me to collapse on.”
“You strongest person I’m know, Sid,” Geno tells him, laying a hand on his cheek. “Best person. You should know, is okay to let someone hold you up sometimes. No one can do this job alone. And you not alone.”
Brave with hope, he leans down, and does what he’s wanted to do since he first met Sidney:  he softly kisses that impossible mouth.
Sidney leans into the kiss with a sigh, and his hands find their way from Geno’s uniform front to his face, the back of his neck.
It’s not a heated kiss, not an urgent one. But it’s warm, and feels full of promise.
It feels like a beginning.
The light in Sidney’s eyes when he breaks away, the determined curve of his smile, that feels like a beginning too.
Geno grins back at him, fierce and proud.
“Well then, Lieutenant Malkin. Let’s show the universe what we’re made of,” Sidney says.
“We show,” Geno says. “We show, together.” And he leans down to kiss Sidney again, the stars glimmering bright above them.

Chapter 4: His Companion
Wilson wakes up to a little surprise.
Chapter rating: PG13 for language.
The next morning, Wilson was awoken by the sounds of panicked yelling outside. He awoke slowly and felt a breeze against the side of his face. He looked to the side and found that the side of the tent had been lifted a little. He looked to the other side and saw that his backpack had been taken off and was pushing against the side of the tent, causing it to lean. Huh. He didn't remember taking it off last night....
"Wilson? Are you awake?" A Canadian voice with a hint of a French accent was heard as the flap of Wilson's tent was pulled back. It was Woodie.
"Am now." The scientist mumbled groggily.
"Get up. Dude, the weirdest fuckin' thing just happened. Everyone's freaking out." The Canadian said urgently.
Wilson rubbed his eyes. "I can hear that." He stretched his limbs out for a moment. "Alright, alright, I'll be out in a second." He yawned and Woodie stepped back as the scientist stepped out of his tent.
"Hey..." He noticed that Wigfrid, Wes, Wolfgang, and the Webber/Wendy duo were standing not too far off from where the tents were located. "What's going on out here?"
"Morning, Wilson." Wigfrid flashed him a kind smile before her face fell back into a worried shape. "To be honest, I dunno. We heard something thumping around outside camp and then a scream, and for some reason they told me to stay back while they went to check it out."
"They?" Wilson eyed the full crowd of a well over half the current residents of their rather impressive base camp.
"Wickerbottom and Maxwell!" Wigfrid stamped her foot and groaned with frustration. "I don't get it! They're both so frail! If they get hit by something really dangerous, you know they're both done for." It was obvious to Wilson that the redhead only cared about Wickerbottom, though.  Everyone knew that she and Maxwell didn't really get along...at all.
Wilson was about to press further when the sound of heavy panting became audible, like someone was running hard. He looked from Wigfrid over to the gap between wall fragments that served as an entryway and his jaw nearly dropped. A woman leaned against the side of the wall, one arm propping her up, her face turned toward the ground. Her clothes consisted of a collared red long-sleeved shirt, black pleated skirt, Mary Jane shoes, and white socks. Her attire was wrinkled and dirty, as if she hadn't had access proper shelter or a clean change of clothes in a while. Her hair was thick and a sleek black color, pulled behind her head into two pigtails that curled to form a "W". Her square bangs covered her face as she looked down.
The scientist's breath hitched and he dared to take a step forward. The woman looked up, revealing a face with wide eyes and a small nose.
"Willow?" The word was caught in the scientist's throat and came out choked.
The woman's eyes widened. "Wilson?" She stood up all the way and the two looked each other up and down.
"No fucking way." A large, goofy smile spread across Wilson's lips, and the person named Willow reciprocated the action.
"Oh my god!" The two ran toward each other and threw their arms around the other in a tight hug, collapsing to the ground on their knees. It hurt Wilson to do so, but the pain was overlooked.
"Holy shit, Willow, it's really you!" Wilson began to tremble and a lump formed in his throat.
"Y-yeah, who else would it be, silly?" Willow smiled and buried her face in her brother's shoulder. "I thought I'd never see you again..."
"I thought you were dead!" The words came out of Wilson's throat shakily, and his voice cracked near the end. "I thought you died when you burned down t-the house..." He choked up and began to cry. "G-god, I'm so happy to see you..."
"I'm happy to see you, too." Willow's voice was calmer, sweeter, quieter and she began to cry too.
"Uh..." Everyone else backed up, a little awkwardly. Maxwell and Wickerbottom came back through the entrance a moment after the two broke down.
"Well, damn." Wigfrid crossed her arms. "Uh...hey, you two, stop crying for a sec, will ya?"
"Wigfrid!" Wickerbottom chastised. "Let them have their moment!"
Wilson sniffled and pulled away from Willow, but only slightly. "Hey, stand up." He urged quietly, wiping his sister's eyes and helping her to her feet. Willow brushed off her skirt with the hand that wasn't locked on to one of Wilson's and looked at  Wilson, at the two standing by the entry, to the crowd gazing at them in awe, and then back at Wilson for an explanation.
Wilson smiled. "Everyone, this is my little sister, Willow." He gestured to the woman standing next to him. She smiled a little and waved shyly. Everyone gazed at her in awe. Webber and Wendy had hidden behind the mighty Wolfgang when they saw her come in, but now Webber stepped out from behind him.
"Hello!" He waved politely. Willow screamed and clung to her big brother's arm.
"Is that a spider?!" She reached into her inventory and grabbed her lighter. Wilson was surprised to see it was still intact.
"Technically, I'm half-spider, yes." Webber nodded.
"Wilson..." The woman looked over at her brother. "Is that even scientifically possible?" She whispered.
Wilson laughed. "My dear, you'll see that a lot of what goes on around here seems to defy the laws of science. Webber is just an example of one."
"Webber..." She repeated and put her lighter away. "H-hello there." She dared to let go of Wilson's arm and slowly extended a hand for him to shake. Webber took it and shook back eagerly.
"I didn't know you had a sister, Mr. Higgsbury!" He commented. Willow looked over at him.
"You never told them about me?" The shock and hurt in her voice was nearly enough to make Wilson tear up again. The pyromaniac let go of Webber's hand.
"Well?" She crossed her arms.
"No, I didn't." Wilson admitted. "Like I said, I thought you were dead."
"Well, I'm more than a little offended that you didn't so much as mention me!" She bit her lip.
"It  hurt too much to talk about, okay!?" Wilson retorted and turned his head away.
An awkward silence nearly choked everyone to death for what felt like too long for Wilson.
"...I'm sorry." He looked back at his sister and said. "I mean it."
"I don't doubt you." Willow looked back at him too. "I'm too glad to see you to be properly pissed off."
The two chuckled nervously and Willow looked back to the group.
"Hey, the rest of you still haven't introduced yourselves!" She said rather cheerily. "Come on, now, it's okay. I don't bite, only burn!" She joked.
Everyone took turns telling Willow their names. During this process, he noticed Maxwell was skipped over and that the dapper man was giving him a strange look that he didn't quite know how to read. Then again, expression-reading had never been the scientist's strong point. He assumed it had something to do with his disorder.
Willow was a bit confused when Wes didn't speak as he held out his hand. Wilson explained to her that he was mute and was a mime as a coping mechanism.
"Oh! Nice to meet you, Wes!" She smiled sweetly at him and shook his hand. Wes smiled too and Wilson felt confident his sister had made a friend already.
Wigfrid was the last one to introduce herself, and as she took Willow's hand, her face turned the same color as her red curls of hair.
"N-nice to meet you, ma'am!" She said in a slightly dramatic tone. She curtseyed and Wilson noticed she struggled to keep eye contact with Willow as she spoke. "I-I'm Wigfrid! P-pleasure to meet you!"
"Hello, Wigfrid." Wilson also noticed his sister did not reciprocate the nervousness. "I like your hat."
Instead of correcting her and saying it was a "battle helm", as she called it, Wigfrid's eyes lit up and her cheeks seemed to get darker in color.
"T-thank you!" She stuttered. Everyone exchanged glances and Wilson couldn't help but wonder if Willow was thinking what the rest of them were.
"So, Willow." Wilson took his sister's hand again. "Now that we're all acquainted, why don't we show you around?"
"Show me around?" Willow cocked her head. "Oh. Oh. I suppose there's no going back to London from here, is there?"
Wilson shook his head. "Nope. We're here forever, as far as we know. Don't worry, it's nice here! The air is much better and so is the food! There's no disease or bustling city life or shitty parents to kick us out, or-" Wilson stopped when he realized what he said and saw everyone was staring at him slack-jawed, save for Maxwell, who continued giving him that strange look. The scientist made a note to confront him about that later. In the meantime, Willow looked like she was going  to slap her brother unconscious.
"Er...forget that last part." Wilson cleared his throat. "C-come on, then, let's get you settled in..." He led his sister away from the group and off to the berry garden.
"Excuse me." Willow crossed her arms. "Bringing up our parents in front of them?! Way to make an impression!"
"I'll have you know I was the first--er, second one here! I've already made my fair share of an impression!"
"I meant for me!" She groaned, exasperated. "Wilson, I love you, but God's sake! Really?"
"Come on, sis, they'll forget it eventually." Wilson rolled his eyes. "I'm sure some of them are too interested in trying to be your friend to care."
Willow raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"Of  course! Everyone seems to love you! Wendy's a bit withdrawn towards everyone and Wolfgang, as big as he is, is just shy. Come on, now. You saw how Wigfrid reacted to you." He smirked. "I think you two will get along just fine."
Willow smiled at this. "Yeah, I think so too. And I like Wes. He seems nice."
"He is. Everybody loves him, believe me." Wilson placed a hand on Willow's upper back. "Hey, if you're nervous that they'll find you weird, don't be. Our peculiarities are what make us similar, you know. Wendy carries a flower that contains the soul of her dead sister."
"Oh really?" His sister rolled her eyes.
"Yeah. And Wickerbottom writes her own books all the time that can do things like summon flocks of birds. And Wolfgang gets stronger when he eats enough."
Willow giggled. "That's ridiculous!"
"I thought so, too, at first, but I'm sure everyone else will feel the same once they hear that you don't take fire damage."
Willow bit her lip. "Touche." She nodded and pointed toward the menagerie of berry bushes before them. "So you grow berries from all of these?"
Wilson nodded proudly. "Yes! We also have another garden where we grow more crops!"
Willow smiled. "Amazing. You all must be busy here."
"You bet!" Wilson laughed and pat his sister on the back. "There's so much I want to show you and such a little amount of time" He said, turning  towards the other farms. "Come, now. I want this tour to be over before dinner. Wigfrid hunts meat for us daily, so this should be good."
Willow nodded and the two went off together, happier than they'd been in a long time.
~~
Dusk fell just as soon as the two made it back to the fire pits for dinner. Everyone fell silent when Willow sat down next to her brother on one of the logs set by the fire.
"So, how was it?" Woodie asked after a while. "T-the tour, I mean."
Willow nodded. "A very nice place, even if it's a bit rustic." She said, rolling back her sleeves. "I think I'll like it here a lot." She seemed fixated on the fire before her. "So pretty." She absentmindedly stuck her hand in it, turning it over a few times.
"Willow!" Wilson grabbed her arm and pulled it out. Woodie sat across from them, jaw agape, and Wilson noticed a few more people staring, Wigfrid included.
"What? It didn't hurt. It's never hurt!" Willow groaned. "I love you, but sometimes you suck, you know that?"
"You don't just stick your hand in a fire! It doesn't matter if you'll take damage or not!" Wilson facepalmed. "Willow, you're really something else, you know that?"
Willow giggled. "Yep. You and me both."
Dinner was actually the opposite of what Wilson expected. Everyone wanted to speak with his sister, asking her just about every question about her they could think of.
"I see you like fire." Wendy remarked at one point. "Can you do anything special with it?"
"Not really. I just like setting things ablaze from time to time. It doesn't hurt me." Willow shrugged as if this was a completely normal thing.
"Amazing!" Wickerbottom remarked.
Willow blushed. "Well, thank you."
Wickerbottom smiled.
Wilson nudged his sister. "See what I mean when I say they'd like you?" He winked and took a bite of meatball. Willow blushed a little more.
"Yeah, I guess you were right." She replied quietly.
Wilson chuckled. The rest of the dinner proceeded in silence. It was significantly darker when it was finished, but not necessarily nighttime yet.
"Wilson, I'm tired." She yawned and leaned against her brother's shoulder.
"I could tell. I was just about to ask about it, actually." He raised an eyebrow. "Your dark circles have gotten worse, you look paler than what I remember, and your hands tremble when you handle objects. Don't think I haven't noticed; I'm still sharp as ever."
"So I see." Willow chuckled. "I didn't think you would have noticed all that. It's getting late, anyway. Is there anywhere I'd be able to...?"
The scientist nodded. "You can sleep in my tent until we can erect one for you. Come on, you must have had a hell of a day."
"Believe me when I say I have." She chuckled and yawned again as Wilson helped her up.
"I'm going to hit the hay now, guys." Willow announced. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Mostly everyone replied.
"Sleep well!" Wigfrid added. Willow smiled at her as Wilson led her to the tent.
"Here." He pulled back the flap and she got in, untying her hair from her pigtails.
"It's been a while since I slept somewhere like this." Willow remarked, shaking her long black hair out. "There's a roof over my head and blankets under my back. Couldn't be any luckier."
Wilson smiled and knelt down so they were eye-to-eye. "Sleep well. I'll be back in a bit." He kissed her on the cheek and Willow reciprocated the gesture before Wilson closed the tent and returned to the fire pits, where everyone else was cleaning up. Immediately the camp exploded into chatter.
"Dude, you didn't tell us you had siblings."
"Yeah, what's with that? Do you not trust us or something?"
"Woah, woah! It's not that I don't trust you all! I thought she was dead, alright, and it hurt to bring it up, like I said this morning! Oi!" Wilson held up two hands in defeat.
"Mr. Higgsbury!" Webber raised a fuzzy hand. "Can Wendy and I call her 'Aunt Willow'? It was Wendy's idea!"
"Was not!" Wendy said, aghast, or maybe embarrassed out of her mind. Wilson couldn't tell. Again, reading emotions was far from his strong suit.
"Whatever!"  Webber shot back.
"Hey, hey, no fighting. You can ask her when she wakes up. For now, let's be quiet, okay? We don't want to make it harder for her to sleep."
"Yes, sir." Wendy and Webber responded in unison. Wilson couldn't help but smile at how cute it was.
"Ahem." Maxwell tapped Wilson on the shoulder. Wilson flinched.
"What?" He looked back over at the dapper man, whose facial expression was flat and emotionless.
"Come with me." Oh, great. Wilson rolled his eyes.
"Alright." Wilson ignored the stares of the others as he followed Maxwell to the same place where the taller had been standing when the Higgsbury siblings were reunited.
"So what's this about?" Wilson crossed his arms. "Are you going to murder me and then my sister? Because if you are, I'm going to personally come back and haunt the shit out of you if you so much as tweak a hair on her head."
Maxwell rolled his eyes. "What makes you think I'd pull a ridiculous stunt like that, Higgsbury?" He pursed his lips. "I'm genuinely hurt. Damn. I didn't realize you hated me that much."
Wilson bit his lower lip, a pang of guilt slapping him across the face. He wasn't supposed to care about how this person felt. He hated him.
No, no he didn't, Wilson thought as he reflected on the moment that this very same man had comforted him when he cried over his dear sister barely twenty-four hours ago.
"Sorry." The word escaped his throat naturally, as if it was an action of his subconscious mind.
"Apology accepted." Maxwell still averted eye contact, though.
"Seriously, though, what is it?" Wilson crossed his arms impatiently.
Maxwell contemplated what he was going to say next for a moment. "So...if you found out who the person responsible for bringing your sister back to you was, what would you do to them?"
Wilson cocked his head. "Why?"
"Sheer curiosity." Maxwell replied right off the bat. "I saw the way you reacted to her today. I was just...wondering."
Wilson bit his lip and grinned. "I dunno. I'd probably either kiss them or marry them on the spot. Depends on what they wanted." He laughed. "But I doubt we'll ever know who that person was, if a person was even involved at all, so I guess it doesn't matter, right?" He chuckled.
Maxwell chuckled, too. "Yes, I suppose so." Wilson noticed that this man still would not look at him.
The scientist nodded awkwardly. "So...is that all?"
Maxwell nodded, seemingly staring off into space. "Yeah."
"Well, goodnight, then." Wilson turned toward his tent and left Maxwell there. He pulled back the flap to the tent and saw Willow sleeping on her side peacefully. Smiling, he moved the backpack from last night out and left it by the outside so there would be room for him. Just as he let go of the tent flap, he thought he saw someone in a black dress standing in front of the tent, but in a fraction of a second the image was gone. He couldn't see her--well, maybe his, who said only women could wear dresses?--face, adding on to the creepiness of the illusion. Wilson tensed up with fear and curled up with his sister, falling asleep and dreaming a most interesting dream indeed.

Guys. Here it is.
I spent like a while writing this. and I would like to hear thought about it before I upload it to AO3. I think I’ve got a name for it but feel free to suggest one if you’d like. Its going to eventually be a Handsome Jack / Rhys work but this chapter is Jack-centric (like the rest of his world lol)
Summary:
The final fight for Jack and the vault hunters had not ended the way he had planned. Not in the slightest. Luckily for him, his company was in charge of one of the greatest innovations of the past millennia; the “New-U” station. Jack revives but he figures, his enemies didn’t have to know that… Time goes by and Jack is running the company under the guise of a boring seemingly nameless man, and it works to keep his secret safe. Jack has not a care or rather concern in the world, until a few of his underlings go AWOL with 10 million dollars for a... vault? Revenge? Obsession? Chicks? All that Jack is now worried about is if this mission is going to compromise his position at the top.
Things to note: Foul Language, Proper use of drugs, Face Trauma, and Blood are all included in this. Also this is the first Fan Fiction I’ve ever written so constructive criticism is appreciated.
Handsome Jack arrived in his office after his last fight with the Lilith and that sad excuse for a “Vault Hunter” through means not predicted by him; The god dammed New-U station. At least he knew for certain he wasn’t dead. He knew because 1) Heaven wasn’t supposed to hurt 2)Hell didn’t look like his office 3) Heroes don’t die. He figured it a the New-U station because of the blinding light of what could only be a digistruct followed shortly by searing pain sprouting across his new face. Helios almighty, did he hated these things.
Sure he got to beat death and all, but the price he paid to do so was high to say the least. He received the rights for the tech from Dahl in the massive reparations for the invasion and “Zarpederps” stupidity. But it felt like a backhanded way to pay him back. Like, when would he personally use such a thing? Why would he have to? Dying wasn’t often on his daily agenda, unless it was for others (and they were meant to stay dead).  Plus if he did use it the side-effects were an unpleasant reminder of Betrayal. However he did see value in the tech and kept it. The value being it would be much more fun to see bandits killing themselves over and over again, rather than just once.
Finally taking a deep breath while the burning across his face turned into a throbbing ache, Jack started his way down the hallway he arrived in. Jack was glad the last New-U station he had seen before that little debacle on Pandora was the one in the hallway just outside of his office. The hallway was barren. Not a soul but Jack himself, if you could even count what was left of his. Jack was somewhat thankful that there was no one around to see his biggest embarrassments; his defeat and his broken face. But at least he was alive and safe no less. Going from the crater of a goddamn volcano to the space station was like travelling from hell to the land of the living. Which made his office like heaven to him. He loved his office. the design was sleek, subtly elegant, and most importantly Handsome Jack Functional; With a library that also served as a place to airlock those conspiring against him, statues to remind him of his glory, a treasure trove with memorabilia of his conquerors, and best of all his desk fitted with a comfortable throne to rule from right in front of the huge window with the best view of the shitty moon he saved. One could say that this room was the like a reflection of Handsome Jack himself. One could also say that it was ridiculous amount of space for an office.
Stumbling across the room half blind, and bleeding a modest amount was not the way he wanted to enjoy his office however.
“Agh where the fuck is it?” Jack was going through his desk drawer for his emergency stim-pack and mask. He wanted the pain to stop and lower the chances of one of his employees spotting him because, hell who knows they could actually be competent for once!
A relieved sigh falls from Jack's mouth when he finds what he’s looking for. An even more relaxed breath leaves him after he jams the stim-packs needle into his arm. At least now the bleeding stopped but that same damned mark remained. See that was why he hated having to re-spawn not only was it shameful that he had been taken down by someone probably lesser than him, but he also had to re-live the placement of the vault crest on his face, well almost the visions that originally accompany it only show up in his dreams now and then but the incredible branding of his face was not that needed the unpleasantness of those visions to make it agony. Then scar it left in the aftermath was none too pretty either.
That was was why he decided on the mask. It's not dehumanizing like others, and was still technically his face, but gave Jack an air of mystery to him that his “original” face couldn’t. Handsome Jack had caught wind of many rumors flattering and insulting on the Galactic web, several of which were influenced by some of his underlings and their wild imagination.
“Attention Hyperion employees,” the cheerful and sometimes seemingly smug voice of Hyperion came in through Jack's office intercom. Huh he thought that he had it disconnected to any of the common broadcasts systems in the station but apparently he missed one…
“...this is an urgent emergency broadcast...”  No, not missed it would seem, but kept because it was actually frick’in useful.
“...Handsome Jack, has been murdered...”
“No shit cupcake”, Jack said to no one in particular.
“All Hyperion forces are to return and remain on station or risk death. Thank you.”
Jack gave the room a puzzled look. Did they think he was like, dead-dead? How stupid were they?
“That's it, when I get down there those little insignificant peons are going to get packed full of so much lead that i could paint a house with’em!” He was Just about to stop his way down the hall when the doors opened up to reveal a single figure, he seemed slight in manner as he slinked down the hallway, slowly making his way down Jack's Office. Often looking at the elevator as he his behind the inlets of the windows in the corridor, that is until he hit the last, windowless part of the entryway where he just flat out ran into Jack's office, looking back the whole time.
Jack stood in the library, observing the skittish man until he was made note of. He skirted around the other side of the room, apparently looking for something. The man himself, was actually quite dumpy looking. Not in the way he dressed but in his face and posture; he looked a like a not-so-hot-mess. And Jack was pretty sure from where he was standing he smelled a little bit too.
Tired of waiting Jack cleared his throat. No response. Hard of hearing too it appeared. “AHEM..” The other man spun around so fast that he lost his balance and landed on his ass. Handsome Jack snorted, now that's the reaction he was expecting.
“Mind telling me what you’re doing in my office sweetheart?” Jack now leaning on one of his statues but a safe distance away. The man seemed calmed by the physical distance he kept unaware the true reason why was due to his bodies pungent aroma.
“ I… Uh..”
“Tick-tock munchkin we haven’t got all day.” the man wasn’t actually short he actually appeared to be about Jack’s height. but compressed himself to be smaller.
“I wanted to find your mask” If looks killed (and often with Jack they did) that man would’ve be a corpse at that moment
“I’msorrysir-Its just… I’ve never been much of looker, and I figured that if I could sell it on the black market or something I could get enough money to I don’t know, buy a new face? A boyfriend? Or I don’t know fix this mess of a face I have.” Jack Squinted at the kid.
“And your first thought after hearing I was dead was to run up here and essentially grave rob my office?” Jack was seething now, clawing for his pistol.
“Nononono, I was sent here by the board to collect any recent projects still in here… and I didn’t mean to disrespect you I just figured it was the most valuable thing in the office I could get and considering this will be the only time I’ll ever be up here…” The kid was on the verge of tears, and it was hilarious.
The CEO considered him for a minute or two, starting at the stinking man, and then an idea came to him.
“Alright Sir-sweats-a-lot, I’ll bite. Buut, you can’t have my mask. I’ve got something better and the result will be much safer than a black market deal. What's your name anyway kiddo?”
“Mark Clemens, sir.”
“So clementine, I have a proposition for you; how about I send you on a little vacation, you get a little plastic surgery, invest in some deodorant, possibly change your name, you know the whole nine in the company vacation package, of course this all being under the pretense that you forget what you’ve seen here and take on a new name, and hell as a cherry on top,  I promise not to kill you! Hows that?” Mark nodded, he couldn’t see any downside with this deal for him, all of it seemed reasonable. Well as reasonable as a deal with Handsome Jack can get, sure there was that little bit of hurtful jab with the deodorant but it wasn’t nearly as lethal as Handsome Jack’s brand oh humor..
“Oh and you can’t comeback. For like, ever. Or at least until I get bored of being y-.. um er.. generous. ” Mark continued to nod but slower.
“C-can I take my cats with me?”
“What?!”
“Can I take my cats with me, sir?”
“Suuure take all the cats in the station if you’d like but first, let's get you scanned into a New-U station.”
Jack assumes that if the board members have noticed the slight differences he’s made to Mark’s personality that they are too pleased by the lack of horrible body odor to care. The past week was kinda fun for him, observing the entire station, in mourning over their great leader, well almost all of the station… The voice of Hyperion was as chipper as ever, but Jack was thankful he didn’t have to listen to another person sobbing, especially over the intercom...  Yes life was becoming a new sort of normal for Jack, but he was not happy with his position on the station. He wanted to be the covert dead CEO hiding as new CEO. Not the covert dead CEO running around like someone's errand boy. So the most logical thing he could think of to get back on top was to take part in the time honored tradition of Hyperion brand of blackmail, backstabbing, and murder to get what he wanted.
And that was how Mark Clemens became the “new” Chief Executive Officer. However, Jack wasn’t just doing this for shits and giggles. No. He had a strategy behind all of this. With this new identity, He could see how his closest allies were treating his death, and watch his nemeses lower their defences.  He still missed some of the aspects of his life before “death” so to speak but he kept his nose to the grind; managing the company and plotting death to his enemies. All was going according to plan... Until Jack caught wind of a Vault Key and his employes subsequently somehow got robbed blind and lost 10 million dollars.

Urgent question about medical insurance for college students!!!???
I'm a student at a major university in the state of Washington (not that it matters for the question I guess). I'm still on my dad's insurance but it's going to expire on my birthday this year. If it is verified that I'm a student at a college (I don't think it matters whether it's a university, community college, trade school, whatever), then the insurance can continue. I stupidly dropped a class close to the beginning of this term, and this unknowingly dropped me *just*, just barely to the status of 'half-time'. I really didn't realize this would happen and has caused me all sorts of grief with the financial aid gods (lol)...I already will have to be writing appeal letters explaining my mistake. Well, I digress, but my question is: For this insurance matter, do I just need to be a student or do I need to be a full-time student . If it's the latter, pardon my French, but I'm pretty much, f**ked, aren't I? Anyone know the answer?""

E. None of the above. Im pretty sure B and C are incorrect, but otherwise I have no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!""

Ok so I'm gonna be 20 in a couple months and I'm tired of driving my crappy integra. I've been saving up and I'm set on getting a 350z. My price range is about 12,000 tops. If I put a down payment of about 5 or 6 grand how much would I pay per month for the loan. And how much would I pay a month for the loan along with the insurance. I'm on my parents plan. I don't know much about interest rates. Can you give me estimates on different lengths of loans and interest rates Thanks ily""
4 years after DUI... insurance?
so when i was 21 i got a dui (it's called an oui here in Maine, but same thing). PLEASE DONT JUDGE ME I KNOW I WAS YOUNG AND STUPID. anyway, i ended up selling my car to pay for the whole mess since my license was getting suspended anyway. since then i have been a happy bicycle commuter! now the time has come for me to become an adult woman again and get my license back because i have enrolled in a college that is not in biking distance. I have signed up, paid for, and in 2 weeks will be taking the DEEP class required by the state of Maine in order to be licensed again. basically i am curious about my insurance premiums. i haven't had my license for almost 4 years, but i have read online that your insurance will have to be sr22 and all expensive and whatnot for THREE years. also, i have since turned 25 and will be 26 soon, so i expect a rate decrease from that. i guess my question is: have i managed to bypass the higher insurance rates because it has been 4 years? if so, it almost seems too good to be true. i am highly suspicious. can anyone give me some insight as to what to expect when purchasing my insurance? thanks chums""

Insurance rates for 2004 Pontiac GTO?
I am almost 18 and looking for a new vehicle. Currently I am driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse Gt (5 speed) and am paying $200 a month! They messed it up so I need to call them back it should only be $120 a month. Anyhow, I am looking to upgrade. I have been looking at Srt-4's which are quite high on insurance, Ion Redline's aka Cobalt SS which is cheaper than the Srt-4, and have currently spotted a 2004 Pontiac GTO (6 speed) , sticker price $12,000 I will try to talk them down to 9 or 10k which might be pushing it even though the car is almost 8 years old. Anyway for the minimum amount for full coverage I only want to be paying no more than $250 a month. Do you think this can be achieved? I have the good student discount and have taken driver's ed. Thanks Guys""

Cheap car insurance for young drivers?
I'm turning 17 in a few weeks and plan to start taking driving lessons. My parents are looking into cars for me, they are only prepared to pay 1000 for my first car, but it's the insurance that is so expensive. There are a few cars that I have seen that I like, but any quote I try and get for them is at least 2,500! Are there any companies that do cheaper car insurance for young drivers or any ways that I could make the insurance cheaper? Also, i've heard that getting the insurance in one of my parents names then only being a named driver on the policy is cheaper, but when I have looked it doesn't seem to make much difference? Thank you!""

My car was rear-ended but I don't have car insurance?
Someone rear ended my car today. My insurance has been expired for a while now but I still called the insurance company and they filed a claim for me. When I mentioned that my insurance had expired, the lady who filed the claim said that the adjuster will call me on Monday and give me the details. Though the accident wasn't my fault, I am worried about not having insurance at the time. Also, nobody was injured in the accident but my back bumper had a very minor scratch. Was what I did wrong? I'm buying a new home. The seller built the house for me over an existing lot of his property. Since the house is a new construction it should not be any liens. is this a right assumption? The house is located in TX. I'm a 17 year old driver who has just passed my test and when i go to quote myself on any car its either unquotable or something like 20,000 a year or something stupid even with immobilizers trackers parked in a garage etc and when i put my mum as the main driver (she has 5 year NCD) it only dropped like 200 so i don't understand how people are getting it below 10000 let alone 2000. I haven't bought a car yet but could somebody tell me what is the up most cheapest car to insure and all the combinations that make it cheaper.
