Fleurmione Week 2023 | Day 1: Creature Feature/University
Modern AU. Hermione is a part of an ancient line of covert monster hunters, sent on an undercover mission to France to investigate and help quell the budding rumors surrounding the town's history of paranormal events. There, she will be meddling with old powers and societies that have walked the earth hidden, long before the age of man. Her investigations start at a university at the heart of the city, where most rumors have sprung up. Enrolled as an unassuming student, Hermione develops a harmless crush on a senior, the enigmatic Fleur Delacour.
What she doesn't know is that Fleur just so happens to be the granddaughter of the Veela Council's Matriarch, and reigning supreme of the High Council of Magical Creatures.
OR that university paranormal au where Fleur has a crush on the monster hunter and just sorta goes along with it.

Rotten Holiday
by takearisk
Rotten holiday, Valentine’s Day.
First of all, the colors: garish pinks and in-your-face reds that have no business being that bright.
Secondly, the décor: explosions of hearts, and cherubs, and flowers. Good god, the flowers. There was no way Professor Sprout needed to grow that many bouquets and blossoms except for the express need to annoy him.
Thirdly, the giggling. Harry had started taking secret passageways completely out of the way of his classes just to avoid the titter from various groups that seemed hell bent on forcing him into some form of self-disfigurement. Mainly, the urge to shove his quill, pointy end first, straight into his forehead to put himself out of his misery.
But fourthly, the couples. What on earth could be so special about the first two weeks in February that every pair of boyfriend and girlfriend had to parade through the halls hand in hand. Or more nauseatingly, hide down deserted corridors locked mouth to mouth.
In short, Harry was damn near convinced that everyone in the school had lost their minds.

In a strange twist of events that 99% of pc users will never encounter it's looking more and more like I'm actually going to have to DOWNGRADE my cpu.
No matter what I do I CANNOT get the temps down. I've cleaned the vents, cleaned the fan, repasted with the best stuff I could find, changed the power settings, disabled turbo boost, looked into tpFanControl but backing out since it has the potential to brick my BIOS (hasn't been tested to work with my model. Maybe when this isn't my only decent pc), trying lenovo's heat management utilities (vantage was extremely unhelpful and the older versions won't install on win10, they're straight up blocked by the OS despite being signed), and it STILL idles at 80°c at night while only having the hardware monitor open (and maybe doing a maintenance scan in the background). Yes, it's sitting on an additional fan. Yes, I've debloated Win10 and am looking into Linux once I can afford or even find a big enough msata drive for it.
The only things I've yet to try is tinkering with the BIOS (for some reason the f key shortcut when booting doesn't work :/), brute forcing my way through the power manager install (there's a way to do it that I haven't tried yet) and hunting down the xtreme edition cpu manager that actually works (may be a dead end since the thinkpad forums mentioned that you can't unlock the cpu for tweaking). If none of that works my only options are reducing the wattage of the CPU and/or plumbing the thang into extended intake/exhaust pipes, which I can't use if I have to take it anywhere (rare, but if I have an assignment where I have to create a video it's far better at it than my other options).
Worst part is that it WASN'T always this hot, it used to max out at about 70°c, but I can't remember when I got those numbers during winter or not. Most people with this model usually ask about upgrading their CPU, but mine came with the upgraded option, so a lot of the stuff I've found online hasn't been particularly helpful. I guess on the plus side I'll actually get more than an hour on my battery alongside the better temps if I do downgrade (battery is practically flawless with less that 3% capacity loss. Doesn't matter too much since its rarely on battery anyways, I usually just treat it as a desktop with a huge UPS. It would be nice though to get through a whole movie without having to go grab the power brick in the last 25 minutes).
Was really hoping to max out the RAM and put some additional drives in it first, but I really have to deal with these temps before I cook something. Anyways, any fellow toasty thinkpad owners want to weigh in?

Sorry for coming to you for this. A mutual I've been following for years posted "If you still like harry potter in 2023 you deserve the electric chair" and tbh it's...scary. Tumblr is more hostile everyday. First the withhaunt for Billy fans now even HP. Can't one enjoy anything anymore in this world???? I don't follow JKR. I Don't support JKR. Demonizing a whole fandom and franchise though wishing death upon fans is going too far imho. Everyday I'm thinking on leaving tumblr for good.
As a long-time (unapologetic) Harry Potter fan and a fan of Billy, I feel ya there. I've had to unfollow and block people for posts like that because guess what: I don't come here to be judged over a fictional thing that I happen to like. 😒 Nor do I actually care about JK Rowling, so my bad I guess.
Wanting to leave Tumblr (or Twitter etc. etc.) under these circumstances is understandable. Fandoms and being a fan should be fun. Not an excuse to bully other people online or tell them to kill themselves because they disagree with you. 🤷♀️ Your own comfort and well-being should always come first.

I really don't know what to feel about this. Yeah, people are entitled to their opinions and hell, I stopped putting people on pedestals years ago, and worked through the whole - I'm not going into it; if you were there, you know - sub-Berena drama. And went to see Catherine in Habeas Corpus and absolutely fell in awe again, I mean, her acting is beyond talent and skill, man, and irl after the show she left me breathless bc her presence was just beaut. And she is just... well. beaut. But...
Idk.
This reeks, and reminds me of why I became uncomfortable w her outside of the Holby drama in the first place.
