#I remember when Korra first came out
Text
Love how people notice that Korra and Aang would fit in if they switched places (Korra loving being the avatar and learning easily wouldn’t have needed to go on that training trip, and Aang not really wanting to be the avatar would fit in a time where people feel they moved beyond the need for one)
But I also want to point out that it’s actually important that the avatar sticks out like a sore thumb (Korra wouldn’t have run off and even as a prodigy could a child fight off a whole army? Also I feel like Aang’s journey was a healing one for everyone involved, something important would’ve been lost if the avatar hadn’t done it)
(And if Aang had been in Korra’s time, listening to the people and content to not live life as an avatar, creeps like Amon would’ve been able to go unopposed, as well as probably some other issues, my Korra knowledge beyond the first season is vague, but I stand by my point)
Just, as much as the avatar connects people, they also need to be able to go against the flow to get done what needs to be done

You ever have your narrative haunted by a character who isn’t even yours
#I’ve been thinking about lien-hua non-stop for the past two days send help#like… it’s true. she does haunt the sotrl and everything sotrl-adjacent narratives#the pair of tragic sisters. the grief. her death is both the catalyst and the butterfly effect for all following events#P’Li would be a different person. Suiren and Midori wouldn’t be left with Haya. the RL might not have even gone after Korra#because Lien-Hua went through the same thing as P’Li and the two of them would rationalise better together#I don’t think Lien would trust Unalaq at all. and her distrust is different from. for example. Ming-Hua’s natural snark#they might’ve payed more attention#and even if they didn’t and still left. again sotrl wouldn’t happen#Lien would be left with the girls and she’d seek out Zhi for help so it’d be closer to UtOS#and Midori would be a slightly different person too for a… different reason#I love Lien. she’s my beloved child but that’s why this story is a tragedy. she has to die. nothing would happen as it did if she hadn’t#she died and now she haunts the narrative#and it’s not even intentional bc when I came up with Suiren and Midori’s characters or sotrl’s storyline I hadn’t read LaF yet#well. I had. I read what was there before Kat continued it#but I didn’t really pay attention to Lien-Hua’s existence. like yeah. she was there and then she died and now P’Li’s the way she is#back then she didn’t influence the way I thought about my girls in any way#compared to now#now the way P’Li sees her nieces is forever shadowed by the loss of her sister#both as kids and adults. whether they’re happy or fighting#the first makes her remember her childhood before it was so abruptly ended#the latter makes her wonder if she and Lien-Hua would’ve ended up the same way#there is a tinge of resentment there. she wants to see her nieces as they are. not as what they parallel#she knows her sister is long gone. she’ll never see her again unless she wants to go into the fog of lost souls again#but the spirits can be as merciful as they are cruel#once. a girl was powerless to stop her sister’s death. 11 years later. the girl grew up and holds her newborn niece. filled with deja vu#because yes. Midori is Lien-Hua’s reincarnation#she was always so unexplainably drawn to her auntie. much more than Suiren was#so fond of the sun on her skin and spices in her food and the glow of a fire that it’s hard to believe she has no FN blood in her#she gets strange dreams of people she can’t know but feels like she does. of an oddly familiar red eyed girl. of a long time in a dark cell#losing her parents. Haya’s cruelty. her sister’s protection fill her with dread she swears she felt before. Why did it all happen again???

Korra talking about her love life: Okay so I arrived at Republic City and befriended Mako and Bolin who were brothers. I liked Mako but Mako was dating this girl Asami and I ended up going out once with Bolin who really liked me but then Mako and I kissed in front of him and he got really upset but we all made up later and I let the whole thing with Mako. Then I ended up really getting along with Asami even though I started off jealous of her? She fought her dad for me and all. Anyway eventually Mako and Asami broke up and he and I got together. But after a while we kept arguing and arguing until one day he broke up with me. Then he kissed Asami while I was gone but I came back with memory loss and didn't even remember we'd broken up and he pretended we were still together until the end when I remember and we both broke up for good now because we didn't work. We remained good friends though. Anyway Asami and I became even closer friends and she was there for me at my lowest and at some point I started realizing I had feelings for her?? And I ended up dating her three years later.
Kyoshi: That's insane. In my case I was discovered late as the Avatar and I actually ended up working as servant for a while for the guy who was misidentified as the Avatar, a boy named Yun. I had a crush on him for a while and it was reciprocal but neither of us acted on it and the crush ended up fading —though I still cared deeply about him, of course—, partly because I subsconciously started crushing on Rangi, Yun's Fire Nation bodyguard? I didn't realize at first. But after I found out I was the real Avatar and this guy had my adoptive father killed —and I thought Yun was dead too—, I ran away from home and Rangi came with me and I ended up realizing I had feelings for her while we were running from the cops? Anyway we ended up getting together. I need to add that my adoptive father realized I was the Avatar because I randomly sang a poem that Kuruk had written for Hei-Ran, Rangi's mom. So I ended up dating the daughter of my past life's first love. Also I ended up having to kill my first crush after he almost killed her.
Aang:
Aang: I... met Katara and I fell in love with her?

hai !! can i request a reader who looks down on themselves until korra confesses n they get a huge confidence burst ?? :D
Hi! Of course!
Shy Until You're Not | Korra Headcanons
Tumblr media
╰┈➤ PLOT: You were known to have low self-esteem, well, until the Avatar made an accidental confession.
╰┈➤ WARNINGS: Lower Case Intended, Kinda Short, Light Cursing, Not Proofread
⍣ ೋ Enjoy!⍣ ೋ
Tumblr media
– you were the type to compare yourself to others
– bender or nonbender, you would see someone and wonder why you weren't as good as them, what you could do to be like them, or wish you were them
– you spend most of your time comparing, you didn't notice how good you are at things too.
– whether that's making a joke, taking care of people, drawing, or fighting, you were good at something and you refused to see that.
– you know who didn't refuse to see that though? Korra.
– she noticed everything about you even if you didn't yourself
– she didn't understand why you didn't see what she did in yourself. you were always there motivating her, inspiring her, making her fall head over heels for you
– when you first met, she thought you were shy or some sort of people pleaser so she excused the behavior but once you got comfortable with each other and she got to know you, she didn't understand why you kept putting yourself down in front of her
– and then it clicked
– you were trying to impress or flatter her by knocking yourself down, you genuinely meant what you were saying.
– korra hated that.
– anytime you would put yourself down in her presence, she would confront you.
– "eXcuse yoU! I don't let anyone speak about my friend that way and that includes you." "now, what did we say about the negative self-talk?" "dude, seriously. I will wack you if you keep this up."
– korra's very overprotective. she will literally swat your arm or flick your ear when you talk bad about yourself.
– even through the flaws you claimed you have, korra couldn't help but fall for you. she likes everything about you, even the things you don't like about yourself.
– you were the same way with her.
– sometimes, when she was really down in the dumps, she hated how abrasive she can be but you love her bold and bluntness. it's what makes korra, well, korra.
– you both like each other despite your flaws and honestly, any genuine love should be that way.
– annnyyyways, korra's confession came kind of abruptly.
– you two were hanging together, chilling on top of a rooftop (don't ask), and you were talking down about yourself... again.
–– "You know, I wish I was cool enough to think of this," you bashfully say as you swing your dangling feet. It was sunset in Ba Sing Se and while on a random Avatar trip, you and Korra decided to slip away and take a quick break.
Korra from beside you sighs. She picks at the fur on her Water Tribe wear and crosses her legs at the ankle. She really didn't understand why you talk about yourself like this.
You are the coolest person she knows. You're always there for her and crack the funniest jokes at the most inappropriate times which pleases her because it annoys Tenzin. Not to mention you're painstakingly beautiful and make her heart flutter when you smile.
"But you know, I'm not. You are though." You shrugged, still swinging your feet.
Korra sighs again, but this time out of annoyance. "I hate when you do that."
"Do what?"
"When you talk bad about yourself as if you're not cool, awesome, funny, or all the other adjectives you use to describe others. And honestly, it ticks me off. I don't let anyone else talk about you that way so why should I let you?" Korra shuffles to sit up straighter, legs crossed. "I don't mean to sound like a broken record here, but it really irks my nerves. I can't stand it."
Your feet stopped swinging when Korra went on her tangent. You didn't notice you were talking bad about yourself. It's just something you've done. You can't remember how or when it started either. "I'm sorry. I just--"
"No," Korra sighs again, this time out of depletion. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said all that. Not like that, anyways. You are literally one of the coolest people on this planet and it kills me to know that you don't think the same. You're kind, compassionate, and you make me want to be a better person. I don't know if it's because I like you or something but--"
"Wait a second."
Korra froze. She didn't say what she thought she did... right? Oh, Spirits, this wasn't how this was supposed to go. Korra was going to ask you the night of the Water Tribe festival after she showed you her home and won you all sorts of prizes. She was going to confess to you a few moments into the fireworks so she could watch the pretty colors dance across your face as she spilled out her deepest emotions to you. It was supposed to be romantic. Not a blurt.
While Korra was having her internal freakout, you were grinning on the outside. The Avatar had a crush on you and she was blushing at the possibility that she confessed to you just now. There was something about her shyness, how she wore her nerves on her face that made your insides turn in a good way.
It was hard to explain but it was like warm butterflies exploded and performed their congregation dance in your stomach then flew up to your chest and fed sweet pollen and nectar to your ego.
Oh, Korra was never going to hear the end of this now. ––
– after her confession, korra wasn't sure if accidentally spilling out her guts was a good thing
– yes, her accidental confession led to you guys dating but it also led to countless nights of teasing and you wearing a proud grin on your face that korra wanted nothing but to kiss off of you
– whatever korra was expecting from you in a relationship, it wasn't this.
– because of your insecurities, she thought you were going to be the shyer one, maybe even the one who got flustered more often or had the smallest things make you weak in the knees but it was actually the contrary!
– it was like you were given a miraculous that made you cocky, flirtatious, and suave. (iykyk).
– korra would like to call your increase in flirty interactions and ego boost a flaw fallen upon her, but she would be lying. She loved it.
– she loved the smirk you wore when you teased her. She loved how your confidence grew when a blush would show on her cheeks
– she loved seeing your shoulders square, your eyes brighten, and your teeth showing themselves off in that cocky smile you often put on
– sure, it would be a bit embarrassing when you would tease her in front of her friends and family, but what's a little embarrassment? some may say the Avatar needed to be humbled. What better way to be humbled than your partner teasing the shit out of you?
– Korra had no clue where that insecure and shy person went after her confesssion.
– they rarely showed up anymore.
– korra saw it as a trophy that you didn't compare yourself to her often and rarely thought you weren't enough for her.
– before, when you saw the people she surrounded herself with, powerful benders and non-benders, you thought you weren't enough which was quite the opposite.
– you didn't do that anymore and it made Korra extremely proud. Happy. You finally saw the person she saw in you after all this time.
– after her realization, korra found you and squeezed you so tightly you thought she was trying to make juice out of you.
– she gave you many kisses after being told she was squeezing you too tightly and reassured you about how much she loved you for you and how awesome you are.
– you weren't sure what caused this reaction or behavior but you weren't complaining
– you were being held and kissed by the Avatar. Who complains about that?

Kataang analysis: Cave Of Two Lovers
Tumblr media
One of most beautiful chapters of the series, unfortunately has been misunderstood or take out of context for many stupid people (zutara shippers and anti kataang people), in this analysis i will show the evidence to refute about anti kataang arguments.
First, let’s meet the writer of this chapter:
Joshua Halmiton
Tumblr media
(Before you idiots tell me “Joshua say in the biblie zutara was planned”, is a lie, read the biblie here, and you will know the truth)
In Braving Element when Janet Varney (the Voice of Korra) ask him about the story of the chapter he was writting, Joshua answer this:
“When i was first pitching it, it was like some hippie nomads that were going to be a kind of help to Sokka. These guys were more about enjoying the journey.
Mike and Aaron and you know:
“I like the story but i feel like there has to be more.” You know the labyrinth in the tunnels and i think we needed to introduce the earth bending in the badger mold.
That felt like a story to me and you know i was young, they said no we need this, there should be another story in it. And i think also when we were in the tunnels, when i pitched it, they got separated and When I pitched it, that was they got separated and Aang And Katara ended up together and that’s sort of like we gotta push the love element of it.
To push it even further, they said, there should be a legend in there, i don’t remember who came up with it, I’m going to say it was me.”
1- Many idiots say the story of two lovers was for zutara, but (again) is a lie, Joshua confirms the two lovers was to make stronger Kataang.
2- Joshua was not forced write the Kataang moment, he already say it “And i think also when we were in the tunnels, when i pitched it, they got separated and When I pitched it, that was they got separated and Aang And Katara ended up together and that’s sort of like we gotta push the love element of it.”
He pitched the idea of Aang and Katara having a romantic moment.
3- When he say “we gotta push the love element of it” definitely show Aang and Katara have a romantic connection. (The meaning of push the love element of it is it means that you want to emphasize or highlight the love story in the plot. In this context, it refers to the romantic relationship between the characters Aang and Katara in the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. By “pushing” or giving more importance to the element of love, you seek to further develop and explore that relationship in the story).
Now about the romantic moment, look:
Tumblr media
Many imbecile say Katara didn’t show any romantic feelings for Aang, so let’s see her dialogues.
Katara: I have a crazy idea.
Aang: What?
Katara: [Hesitant. Walks away, slightly embarrassed.] Never mind. It’s too crazy.
We can see she has a idea to get the cave but she was embarrassed and hesitant to say it, let’s see why?
Katara I was thinking ... the curse says we’ll be trapped in here forever unless we trust in love ...
Katara say trust in love is the only way to get out the cave, so she is thinking the love is the solution, so that show she is in love with Aang.
Katara [Turns to face him and gestures to the portrait.] And here, it says, “Love is brightest in the dark,” and has a picture of them kissing.
Katara is points out the picture of the lovers kissing, so she is saying the only way to show our love is kissing, is indirectly saying she want kiss Aang (And the poor Aang don’t understand she is saying “I want kiss you”)
Katara [Shyly, blushing.] Well, what if we ... kissed?
Is obviously, she was worried how Aang would react her idea and she want Aang agreed to kiss, and she was hoping to kiss him.
Katara [Fake-jokingly.] Us kissing. What was I thinking? Can you imagine that‌?
Come on, who you pretend to lie? Is very obvious you want Aang say “yes I want kiss you”
(And for all idiots say Katara didn’t want kiss Aang, when Aang say “I definitely don’t want kiss you”, look her reaction)
Katara [Insulted.] Oh, well! I didn’t realize it was such a horrible option. [Angrily.] Sorry I suggested it!
We can see she is hurt and angry, why? Because Aang don’t reciprocated her romantic feelings, she expect Aang want kiss her back. She want kiss him and get angry when Aang say no.
After that, they have their moment when finally they kiss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we have two things to see about their romantic relationship:
a)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can see Sokka looking her sister very suspect, he is not fool, he know what they do to get out the cave.
Aang’s gaze towards Katara may indicate that he has romantic feelings towards her and is looking for a connection or a response from her. Sokka’s crossing of his arms may be a sign that he has also noticed the romantic tension between Aang and Katara and may be protecting his sister or showing some discomfort with the situation. Katara’s blush suggests that she may also have romantic feelings for Aang and that the attention he is giving her makes her feel embarrassed or excited.
b) Now we have this:
Tumblr media
Chong.
Meanwhile the moment Aang look Katara and she blush, Chong sing this:
Even if you’re lost, you can’t lose the love because it’s in your heart. Da, da, da ...
“Even if you’re lost”: Even Aang and Katara are confused or having bad moments.
“You can’t lose the love”: They never will loose their romantic feelings, their love to keep going.
“Because it’s in your heart.”: What Katara feels for Aang and viceversa is in their hearts and is truly that love, with that they get out the Cave of Two Lovers and suprass the problems.
The Chong song describe Aang and Katara feelings.
I hope you like it.

I love korra! I love the legend of korra so much!! There's so much i love about this show!!
I grew up with atla, i remember coming home from school when i was a kid and watching atla and i loved it and later on, in my late teens i rewatched atla, from start to finish and i actually absorbed everything and i loved it so much more, atla is damn near perfect of a story for me!
And then i watched lok for the first time and i loved it too! I love the expansion of the world, i love the expansion on the lore, i love seeing how the world changed and develop, i loved republic city, i love that the world didn't stop after atla and that republic city was a something that the characters of atla developed. I love how much lore we got in lok, i love knowing that the lion turtle that came out of nowhere in the finale of atla, is actually the reason why bending exists in the first place, i love wan and ravva so much! I loved finding out how the avatar came to be!
I love the villains of this show, they're so much more than just straight up power hungry villains! I know some people think that amon being a bloodbender undermine the oppression of non benders and even though I'd have loved seeing a high level non bender villain, i absolutely love the story with amon! The villains of lok are genuinely one of the best part of this show!
And i just love korra! I love her journey, her growth and seeing the way some people talk about her, just makes me love her even more!
Yes, season 2 is my least favorite, but it's still so good and so fun! Some people act like it's the worst thing in television and it's just crazy! These people are so fucking dramatic!!
Yes, lok has flaws, yes, it's not as "perfect" as atla, but it's so fucking good!! And now that I'm older, i prefer lok, because it is more mature and more complex and just very compelling.
There's probably one thing i disliked about lok and it's the love triangle from the first 2 seasons, and even then, i didn't hate it, i was just annoyed.. and you know what, I'm more than okay with having 2 seasons of annoying love triangle stuff because it lead to korrasami!! Even though they barely got any screen time and some people still try to deny their relationship, I'm so glad it exists, I'm glad that korrasami is not just some non canon ship that fans like, it's actually fucking real! The creators made it as canon as they could!
In conclusion: i love atla, i love lok, i love korra and i fucking love korrasami!!

("of course he was hesitant to break up with her again because the last time he saw her before she got amnesia she stormed into his work place, kicked his desk into a wall, yelled that he betrayed her not allowing him to explain and they had fought multiple times before that. the relationship was toxic and he was very clearly scared of her reaction and that she would lash out at him")
good to know that you think that korra is an abuser who has power over mako in the relationship and mako is the victim who is afraid of her.
ah. i knew i was going to get an anon like this when i made that post. this fandom is so fucking predicable.
i never called korra an abuser in did i? no. you came into my inbox accusing me of using words i didn't say but since you wanna get into this discussion.
season 2 korra is the worst version of her. she is down right insufferable at times. she's hot headed, impatient and tempestuous with seemingly little emotional regulation. her behavior towards nearly everyone is immature.
this is a direct result of korra's insular upbringing which is she is not at fault for and is part of the reason she's so incredibly angry in season 2. she is totally justified in her anger over it, actually. it left her not just ignorant of the world to a large degree but underprepared for the more social aspects of being the avatar. truly the white lotus fucked up.
while korra's anger and frustrations are understandable and even relatable it does not make it okay for her to take them out on mako.
it's so odd because people will hate korra for these very things but offer her grace in how she treats mako. yet mako is rarely afforded any grace at all by the same people. in fandom i often see all the blame placed entirely on mako's shoulders. either you think korra is an equal partner in the relationship or you don't.
they're both maladjusted teenagers and it's their first real serious romantic relationship. they're both stubborn and their tempers flare. korra repeatedly seeks advice from mako and dismisses whatever he says. he tries to be protective when that's definitely a misstep as it comes across as paternalistic to korra when for mako it's a way he shows his care and love for someone.
that said, understanding why korra behaves the way she does it still doesn't make it okay how she treats her boyfriend.
it is unacceptable that she stormed into his place of work, yelled at him in front of his coworkers and kicks his desk into a wall. she is in the wrong for this.
i promise it's okay to call korra out on her bad behavior.
does it make her abusive? in the moment? yes.
look, this is a cartoon. a more mature one for sure and still imparts valuable lessons but like i don't think korra has a pattern of long term abusive behavior and she does learn and grow from this. both her and mako move beyond this, forgive each other for their bullshit and become good friends. it's fandom that continues to hold a grudge against mako.
korra's mistreatment of mako is also side by side in this particular season with the blatantly abusive relationship bolin is trapped in with eska and the comment lin made that implies she fucked up air temple island after she and tenzin broke up.
the eska/bolin relationship and lin's comment are played for laughs and mako in later seasons is made fun of for his ineptitude in his relationships with asami and korra.
all of these decisions were made by the writers and they are fucked for that in my opinion.
the incident at the police station makes mako uncomfortable in their next encounter when he discovers she doesn't even remember they broke up. mind you when he does meet korra again there's a very deliberate moment of her firebending at a dummy whose straw head lands at his feet.
mako's reaction is understandable. he doesn't want to embarrass korra in front of everyone and he's concerned about her reaction to the news they broke up considering her behavior towards him previously. he is somewhat scared of korra here. i think we can acknowledge that.
he knew he fucked up though and he does apologize for it.
now to address the other thing.
korra has more social power than mako. she is the avatar and the daughter of a southern water tribe chieftain. she has all the advantage and privilege over him.
in fact, the entirety of season 2 is mako essentially having less social capital and privilege than those around him and it lands his ass in jail after being framed for the cultural center bombing because he stepped on the wrong toes
make no mistake korra, varrick, asami and lin have more social capital and power over mako than he does over them.
i guess we're not supposed to acknowledge that though.

Yandere Kuvira with winged reader
Authors note: I came up with this on a whim, not read over. Sorry!
GENDER NEUTRAL READER
In a world where after Kuvira reunited the Earth Kingdom and imprisoned Korra. The secret society of hybrids, you included, was revealed. You become close to her. She soon finds out your secret and brings you to "safety" Now she never wants you to leave.
/
"Hello dear" One of the first things you heard as you woke up, you try stretching your (Favorite color) wings out of instinct only to remember the metal collars Kuvira put on them to make you stop using them to get away from her. "Oh, good morning Kuvira" You say a tiredness still in your voice "Today I have a gift for you since you've been so good for the past few months" You tilt your head at her comment "We're going out side today, dear" You sit up from the bed. Finally a chance to escape, you could leave this wrenched place. "Ok I'll get changed"
/
The garden she took you too was stunning. Butterflies fluttered gentle everywhere. Flowers grew quietly while swaying. Everything looked perfect, if it weren't for the obsessed dictator sitting behind you preening your (Favorite color) wings, small bruises that looked like the metal bits that kept you down, were on them. "Great Uniter, an urgent matter has come up, you need to come right away" Kuvira turns your way to address you "I'm going to be gone for a little bit, you can travel inside and outside on your own accord. Goodbye"
After she leaves you head inside to pack a small bag
/
"FIND THEM! FIND THE WINGED" Multiple men run through the forest as you jump from the tree as quietly as you can. You can see the freedom of the cliff! Due to Kuvira constant locks on your wings you have trouble flying, you can barely guild at this point. As you jump the tree, almost getting past that cliff you are pulled back cold, metallic grip. You turn to face the monster herself, Kuvira, "I thought I could trust you" She drops you on the ground. Stomping on your head, knocking you out. Muttering something before you fall asleep.
/
You wake up. Stinging pain is still present in your head. Your wings feel like they're in metal so do your wrist. "You're awake" Kuvira says in a cold callus voice. You try to open your eyes only to be greeted with a bright beam of light gleaming down at you. "H-huh. What...?" You say in confusion, "You lied to me and betrayed my trust after I so graciously took you in. Give me one reason why I shouldn't crush your wings" She says walking away from you. "W-Wait! Kuvira please!-" You try to plead with her. You're on the brink of tears when suddenly Kuvira closes the metal on your wings together. You scream bloody Mary. She starts to slowly close them together but after what feels like hours, she stops. Turning the metal in a liquid state but pulling out a few feathers, she wraps the metal around your neck.
"Kuv-" You start "Shut it" She turns the liquid into a tight metal around your neck "You dare disobey me again a few feathers won't be the only thing I take away" You shiver and freeze at the thought of this. Quietly she lays you down on the bed, hugging you tightly as you fall asleep.

The Book of Doors
@flashfictionfridayofficial
#FFF217 Portal Fiction
Avatar: Legend of Korra
996 words
With a kiss, Lin stepped through the door, closing it behind her.
Kya rested her hand against the panel, wishing she could just stand here, waiting for it to open again and let Lin walk back inside.
She sighed and let her forehead tilt against the door.
Another few hours won’t kill me, she told herself. She took a bracing breath and turned back inside to face a day of cleaning.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A dark brown or black rectangle with an amber glow in the middle. The text '#FFF217 Portal Fiction' is centered, in white.]
For no specific reason, her eyes lighted on a small red book she didn’t recognize, peeking out from the couch cushions where Lin had been sitting the night before.
Kya wrinkled her face in a mix of curiosity and confusion, wondering what manner of book Lin, of all people, would be stuffing in the couch cushions.
I know where she keeps her smut, after all, she smirked to herself.
She bent her knee under herself, fished the little book out, and settled in comfortably for a little light reading.
But there was no title page. No author. No publication information. Frowning in bemusement, Kya fanned the pages gently, only to realize that the pages were stiff and thick.
She closed the book again and examined the cover.
It felt old. The spine felt loose and flexible. There were a few stains from handling, but again, no indication of a title or author. She lifted the front cover gently, but only found a blank endpaper. Not even “Property of Lin Beifong” in her stylized, blocky script.
Kya flipped the first page over and was confronted by a door she’d recognize in any circumstance. It was the family’s own door to the one private residence on Air Temple Island. Aang’s personal mark was etched at eye level, just the way she, Bumi, and Tenzin had added it the night he had died. As if they would need it to remember him. Kya knew she wasn’t the only one to touch it before entering the residence.
The tears swam in her eyes as she started looking through the book. Plain brown doors were paired with decorative red-framed doors. She recognized the door to Katara’s home in the South and Izumi’s private quarters in the Fire Palace. But most of the doors were unfamiliar.
Some were photographs while others were cut from magazines. A few looked like Lin had sketched them from memory or imagination.
She laughed at the sketch of a person she suspected was Su, standing in a Zaofu doorway, but cut off at the shoulders.
“Head wouldn’t fit,” was scratched into the gutter of the page.
And then she came to a small, plain door with the number 524 on a plate drilled into the frame.
Unlike the others, this door was slightly ajar.
Her tears were back.
Hanging from the plate was the small red tassel Kya had added on a whim the first day she came home. The day after, well, after everything the day - and night - before had been.
And that was the smile Lin saw when she opened that door from the hallway.
“What’s got you so happy?” Lin asked with a smile.
Kya just turned the book to face her, watching for a reaction.
She got several. Surprise, embarrassment, and amused resignation were the three she’d remember.
“You found my ‘book of doors.’”
Kya wiggled a little to make more room as Lin divested herself of her boots and other small items. Kya stretched a leg along the back of the couch and lifted her arms.
Lin just shook her head and settled down inside Kya’s embrace.
Kya brought her arms down and closed the book back, but held it where they could both see it. “Would you tell me about this?”
Lin took a deep breath and relaxed a little more.
“I started this a little while after Tenzin.” As always, she paused before moving ahead with her story. She brushed her hand against Kya’s, and together, they opened the book to the temple residence door.
“I imagined what it would be like to open this door, except this time, I stayed with him. Did I give in and have children with him? Did we run away to get married and let Bumi have the airbender kids?” She snorted softly.
She paged through the book, touching some of the doors, but brushing right by others. “I started writing stories in my head about different lives I might have lived.” She pointed to one and explained, “In this one, your mother made friends with a spirit dragon.” She snorted again. “There’s even one where Pema divorces Tenzin and moves in with me.”
Kya couldn’t stifle her surprised laugh. “I don’t think I could tell her that, even if I wanted you to kill me.”
Lin shrugged against her. “She knows.”
Kya choked. “What?”
Lin shrugged again. “She caught me doodling one afternoon and just wouldn’t let it go. I thought she’d punch me or kick me out.”
Kya could barely feel her eyebrows anymore.
“But?”
Lin chuckled. “She kissed me on the cheek, said I would be her first choice, and left me there.”
Even from behind, Kya knew Lin was smirking.
They turned a few more pages in silence, until they came to the door Lin had just entered.
Kya rested her cheek against Lin’s head and hummed softly.
“This one is different,” she whispered.
Lin flexed so she could twist and face Kya.
“It’s the one where you really are here, with me, for as long as you want to stay.” Her face was still, and Kya couldn’t quite tell if she was serious or nervous.
In a small voice that managed to be both timid and confident, Lin continued, “I left the door open for you.”
Kya’s heart melted.
She set the book down in Lin’s lap so that she could bring both hands to caress Lin’s face. She kissed her.
“The only reason I’ll ever leave that door again is so I can come back to you.”

Ok I’m real sorry to everybody who came to my blog for trigun and shit but my Ninjago hyperfixation is coming back with a vengeance so I’m subjecting y’all to another Nonsensical Insomnia Rant!!! this time it’s about my favorite little greasy dead bitch Morro and how freaky powerful he could’ve been (and definitely already was)
Spoilers for the entire Ninjago series ahead lol
So yeah. Morro. Ninjago’s biggest cautionary tale. He is everything Lloyd feared becoming and everything Kai could’ve became. His jealousy and desperation for approval killed him, and his inability to understand that love isn’t won purely via accomplishments ate him alive (he’s an icon for burnt out gifted kids everywhere lol), and most of all: he died tragically, and before he could reach his true potential.
So in the series, we never really got to see any other masters of wind before, and thus we didn’t have any strong guidelines for Morro’s inherent power level. All we know is that he was a prodigy at both martial arts and his elemental powers, so much so that Master Wu assumed that he’d be the Green Ninja (until the Golden Weapons didn’t react, that is). Even in death, Morro was easily one of the ninjas’ more challenging opponents, especially with his great tactical intellect factored in. In a nutshell, he was powerful, skilled, and more than determined to get his revenge on Wu, and the ninja were very lucky that Nya figured out her powers in time to be able to stop him.
Now, going back to the original point, we had no idea if Morro’s power level came from his ancestry, or from his prodigious skill. We do know that he died before he fully mastered his powers, and even then, he’s incredibly powerful. When he first showed up at the tea shop while possessing Lloyd in season five, rocked everyone’s shit almost effortlessly, easily besting all of the ninja in hand-to-hand combat. A case could be made that he was able to defeat them so easily because he was possessing Lloyd’s body, but then again, when they fight him later in the season while he’s not possessing a body, he seems to be just as, if not even stronger. Morro displayed incredible control over his elemental powers as well, being able to summon tornadoes, rip apart buildings, achieve sustained flight, and even alter the weather to his liking, all while canonically having died before he could fully master his abilities. Not only this, but his physical abilities also seemed to have been hampered slightly by being a ghost, which Morro voices frustration about, if I remember correctly.
So, for the longest time, therein lies the question: is the elemental power of wind always that strong, or was Morro’s prodigious strength biasing us? Now, with the introduction of Euphrasia in Dragons Rising, we kinda have an answer: yeah, the elemental master of wind is pretty much always gonna be scary fucking strong.
Forgive me for any errors since I’ve only seen the first season of DR, but from what we’ve seen of Euphrasia, she’s had her powers for a few years at most and is already a force of nature. With minimal to zero training, she was able to achieve sustained flight, finely control wind currents and air pressure, and even use her powers to help seal an interdimensional rift. She’s already easily on par with characters we’ve seen training for most of their lives, and if we compare her to Morro, they’re pretty damn close when it comes to raw prowess. In a fair fight Morro would likely beat her due to having superior experience and training, but it would still be close. So it’s not unreasonable to assume that wind is a powerful element in its own right, and with the right master, it can be really fucking deadly. For example:
Sucking all of the air out of an opponent’s lungs and suffocating them on dry land, á la Zaheer in Legend of Korra
Causing the air pressure in a given area to drop dramatically, inducing hypoxia in everyone present and rendering them unconscious
Manipulating wind currents in a given area on a large scale, altering weather patterns to a high degree
Emitting hyper-compressed blasts of pressurized air that break the sound barrier and rupture the eardrums of everyone in the area, as well as slicing through many materials like a knife through butter
Creating pockets of air in someone’s brain or bloodstream, resulting in an instant embolism
So yeah! The ninja are damn lucky that a) Morro died before he could unlock his true potential, and b) that Euphrasia seems to be on their side, because if not… oh boy.

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 35
THREE YEARS LATER - PART TWO
Y/N’S POV
It was dark when we arrived.
Landing gently on an open space of Air Temple Island, I get off Spectre. No-one is outside. Makes sense. All of the Air Nomads are probably asleep right now. Speaking of which…
“Go with the rest of the bisons.” I tell my furry friend, stroking the fur on his forehead. “Make sure you get some sleep. You earned it.”
With a rumble of agreement, the bison flies off to join the with other flying bisons.
Spectre will soon be asleep. I should probably head to bed too.
I glance at the sparkling lights of the beautiful Republic City, appearing like a cluster of stars from the island. But I look at one area in particular in the right.
I really should head to bed.
But on the other hand…
TIME SKIP
Knocking lightly on the all too familiar brown door, I wait patiently for an answer.
“Coming!”
At the sound of her voice, I quickly inspect myself, tidying my robes and hair. Then, when I finally finish, the door swings open. At the entrance, I see the familiar jet-black hair, golden eyes, and small scare on the right side of her face.
Kyuni freezes in place, eyes widened, as she sees her visitor: Me.
“Surprise?” I say with a cheeky smile.
My voice snaps her out of her trance and a blink of an eye she pulls me into a massive hug!
“Y/N!” She squeals, voice muffled by her face in my shoulder. “You’re back early!”
Closing my eyes, I reciprocate. “Guess I’m faster than you thought.”
We pull apart and the firebender gives me a soft smile. “Clearly.”
I smile back. Then, I notice that she is in her pyjamas. “Oh, uh, I hope I didn’t intrude. I know I came here out of the blue at a late time.”
Instinctually, she looks down at her clothing and blushes in embarrassment. Then she looks up at raises her hands in assurance. “No, no, it’s fine. Come in!”
Walking into her apartment, I sit back on the highly soft and comfortable sofa. Meanwhile, Kyuni walks to the kitchen. “Do you want a drink?”
“A water, please.”
“Coming right up.”
A few moments later and she walks up to me, two glasses in her hand, and places them on toe wooden table. Taking one of the glasses, I feel the ice-cold liquid pour down my throat as I sip the drink. It’s freezing temperature releases some of the tension within me.
“How was the Fire Nation?” Kyuni curiously asks and sits down on a nearby chair.
“The usual.” I nonchalantly say. “Managed to settle that trade dispute that was going on. I also went to a village and dealt with a gang there.”
“A gang, huh? Were they tough?”
“Hardly. Had them screaming in a minute.”
A cute snort emits from Kyuni. “I thought Air Nomads didn’t like violence.”
“Now, wait a minute,” I start, giving her a grin. “I gave them two chances to surrender. Not my fault they were too stupid and stubborn to listen.”
“Of course, Master Y/N.” She mockingly replies, accompanying with a mocking bow.
“Stop it.” I half-heartly tell her while chuckling. The light atmosphere diminishes, however, as I remember the rest of the story.
Sensing the change in the air, Kyuni leans forward in concern. “What’s wrong?”
“The village was in deep poverty. You should have seen it, Kyuni. The conditions the people were in were terrible! They tried sending letters for help but they were just ignored. Even the Fire Lord wasn’t aware of it, and I had to tell her about it! Even the
“Is she going to help?”
“She said she would. I think she’ll keep to her word. She’s better than most world leaders I’ve spoken to.”
“Well, at least the problem is solved now. Right?”
“It shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place.”
Kyuni sighs. She knows all too well about how I feel about stuff like this. I’ve ranted enough about it as it is.
Sighing, I lean back onto the sofa. “I met Lord Zuko and Princess Azula too.”
At the names, my friend’s face lights up. “Really? How were they?”
“They were all right. The princess was…strange…but all right.”
I paused for a moment. Then, I continue. “They mentioned Korra too.”
“Oh, Y/N…”
“I know, I know.” I tell her, raising a hand to stop what I know is going to be a tsunami of apologies or words of sympathy. I don’t want to hear it. I’ve already heard them all. “Still, it hurt.”
“Well, since Korra is coming back tomorrow, I’m sure you two will have time to reconnect and talk things out.”
WHAT?!
I jump forward in complete shock which causes Kyuni to jump backwards in her own surprise.
Did I just hear that right?
“What did you say?” I ask her breathless.
Kyuni frowns initially but softens when she comes to a realisation. “Oh, yeah, you weren’t there when it was announced. Korra’s coming back tomorrow. Tonraq’s coming too.”
My heart pounds rapidly in excitement and fear as I process all of what I just heard. I lean back onto the sofa and take a long, long, sip of my drink until I eventually finish it. Placing the glass back onto the table, I don’t look at my friend at all. Instead, I just keep my focus on the now empty glass.
“I see.” Is all I say, not knowing what else I could say. What should I say? After all these years, Korra is coming back. Korra, who I or anyone haven’t been in contact with during that time. What will she look like? Will she look the same? Will she act the same? Will she be completely different? How would she feel about all of us? Would she still be mad at me?
A gentle hand on my knee snaps me out of my overwhelming amount of questions barging through my mind.
“Y/N, it will be fine.” Kyuni assures me softly.
Will it, though?
“I know.” I respond weakly, not really confident with my statement. “I’m just shocked, that’s all.”
Kyuni knows all too well of how I feel with the situation of Korra. She knows I don’t want to talk about it.
“Yeah, I get it.” She says. “We all were. I still am. But it’s going to be great seeing her again, that’s the important thing.”
I nod and give her a weak smile. “Yeah, it is. You’re right.”
Kyuni smiles back. “We’re all gonna meet her at Air Temple Island. But before that President Raiko is holding a public ceremony about the reopening of the remodelled Central City Station. Asami helped working on it, remember? We can meet up with her then. Mako will probably be there too. It will be nice.”
“Yeah, it will be.” I tell her, silently thanking her for the change in topic. “I’ll probably hold a couple of classes and I’ll meet up with you. In that case, I should be getting some sleep.
“Ditto.” Kyuni agrees and yawns loudly. “The flower shop was really busy today. I could use a good night’s rest.”
“You can say that again.” I say and rising to my feet. “I’ll see my way out. Have a good night, Kyuni. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Kyuni softly smiles. “You too, Y/N. Good night.”
And, with a smile back, I walk out of the apartment and gently shutting the door. I walk a few steps away before I slowly come to a halt and lean against the wall of the now empty and silent corridor. Letting out a tense breath, I gaze upwards at the dull ceiling.
No, don’t worry. Kyuni was right. Everything will be all right.
Restarting my journey, I begin walking to the exit as I silently repeat mantras of reassurance and calming. They do little to soothe my pounding heart ready to burst.
Korra is coming back…
I eventually return to Air Temple Island and begin walking to right outside the door of my room. I don’t open it just yet. I just stare at it, zoning out into my thoughts.
“Y/N?”
Snapping out of my thoughts again, I look to my right and I see Tenzin in his night gown, eyebrows raised in surprise. Then, his features soften and he smiles. “You’re back from the Fire Nation. It’s good to have you back.”
Feeling warmth in my chest, I smile in return. “It’s good to be back too, Tenzin. I hope you didn’t wake you up.”
“You didn’t.” He assures me. “I was just about to head to sleep. How was the Fire Nation?”
I shrug in nonchalance. “It was all right. Fire Lord Izumi told me to send you her thanks.”
I pause for a moment, wondering if I should say the next thing that comes to my mind. Then, I continue. “I heard Korra is coming back tomorrow. Is that true?”
Tenzin’s eyes briefly flash with understanding and sympathy but then subside. “Yes, she is arriving here along with Chief Tonraq.”
Despite having a while to process this information, hearing the confirmation from my mentor reignites the tension inside. Swallowing, I nod. “I can’t believe it. After three years…”
“I know. I’m sure it’s going to be surreal for Korra too.”
“I’m sure it will.” I mutter. Before Tenzin recognises my conflict, if he hasn’t already, I change the topic. “I also heard President Raiko is reopening the Grand City Central tomorrow. I take it you’re going to be there?”
“I will.” Tenzin says. “So will Lin and Prince Wu.”
The mention of the latter makes me scowl slightly, a tightening in my stomach.
Wu. The next in line to the throne of the Earth Kingdom. Or, at least, he’s supposed to be. In reality he’s the most egotistical, childish, immature man-child I have ever seen. I can’t believe he is going to be running the Earth Kingdom. I pity Mako for being forced to be his bodyguard.
“I see.” I simply say, resisting the urge to on a rant about how Wu is a terrible candidate for a leader. “Kyuni and I are planning on heading there to support Asami too. I can come with you.”
“That would be great.” Tenzin says. “I better leave you to it, then. Have a good night, Y/N.”
“You too.”
Walking into my bedroom and gently shutting the door, I gaze at my silent, empty room. Due to the belief that the Air Nomads should have no worldly possessions, the interior was very simple with no decorations. Just a simple desk and bed.
And a box underneath that said bed.
Walking silently, I bend down until I’m on knees and reaching forward I pull outwards. Then, I open it.
There, in the box, are letters. Letters I have received over the years. Some from Bolin, some from Jinora, Kai, and Opal when they are off on their own duties and settling disputes. One from Kuvira…
And, on top of the pile, is my unsent letter to Korra. Gently taking it into my hands, I read the letter again. I was such an emotional mess when I wrote it. I can’t remember what really sparked the tornado of feelings. I guess it just exploded after three years of buildup. I don’t know.
This is MY fault! It is!
I’m supposed to be wise and powerful and yet I feel so hopeless and powerless sometimes.
I love you so fucking much, Korra. And I failed you.
I poured all of those three long years into that letter.
And now Korra is coming back.
Fuck!
Placing the letter back inside and closing the lid, I violently shove the box back under the bed with a force that it hits the wall.
Tenzin will be so ashamed of me if I know I kept these. I’m not even supposed to HAVE them. But…I can’t throw them anyway. I can’t.
When I’m finally bed, I just stare at the blank ceiling with my thoughts tangled in webs of confusion and contradictions.
What am I going to do?
TIME SKIP
Morning comes and work is busy.
After giving happy hellos to Pema and the Air Kids, I begin my pathway to all too familiar round ying-yang platform that gives out a view of the spell-bounding Republic City. Thankfully, I only have one lesson today and then later Tenzin and I will leave to attend Central City Station’s reopening.
I begin to near the platform but, before I make myself visible to my students, I pause as I hear excited and challenging proclamations.
“You take that back!”
“No way, man! You won’t ever be a good airbender!”
“We’ll see about that! Let’s do this right here and right now!”
“Uh, guys, do you think that’s a good idea? What if one of the masters come?”
“Don’t worry! This fight will be over before it starts!”
“For me, it will! You are going down!”
“Come on then, tough guy!!”
I sigh in complete frustration. Newbies. They have no idea what they are doing.
But I don’t intervene. Not yet. I need to catch them in the act.
“Okay, count of three!”
I smile mischievously. Perfect.
“One!”
“Two!”
“Am I interrupting something?”
My voice loud and seething with disappointment echoes across the platform as I make my presence known. A dozen Air Nomads stand in a big circle, two in the centre in battle stances, all turn to their heads to my direction, eyes widening in shock. The two in the centre of the circle, the ones who started all of this, have their jaws dropped and I can just barely make out the look of sheer terror on their features.
I raise an eyebrow. “Well?”
“Uh, Master Y/N!” One of the two in the circle, Gao, I believe, sputters in nervousness. “We were just, uh, um…”
“Just what?” I tell him interrogatively, crossing my arms. “You were about to start fighting a fellow nomad to see who was better? That’s what was going to happen, right?”
Gao wipes his hair to the side and gulps. “Yeah. But…”
“I started it, Master Y/N!” The other of the two, Xan, quickly adds in. “This is my fault! I-I provoked him!”
He’s trying to take the blame. How noble. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to work.
I begin down the stairs, not saying a word, and get closer to the two airbenders. The circle splits open to allow me to enter and I stop dead right in front of them.
“Your desire to protect Gao is admirable, Xan.” I begin, voice stern. “But you are both to blame. You may have started it, but Gao continued it.”
The two young men look down in shame. “We’re sorry.” They both say at the same time.
I hum in acknowledgement, but I don’t say anything for a while. Instead, I let the moment of shame wash over them for a while. Then, I sigh in disappointment. “Everyone sit down.”
Everyone silently rushes forward and in an organised fashion sit down before me, crossed legged. They all look at me with anticipating eyes.
I don’t turn around. Not yet. I clasp my hands behind my back and continued to gaze out to Republic City. I don’t say a word for a good five to ten minutes. That is intentional, of course. One of the most essential qualities of an Air Nomad is patience. If they can’t be patient to wait until I start my lesson, then they are already failing.
After another five minutes, I turn and finally begin.
“When you became an Air Nomad, you swore an oath of non-aggression.” I speak up loudly. “In our culture, violence is always the last resort. Always. There are no excuses. We do not glorify violence, nor do we enjoy it. It is a necessary evil.”
I pause, letting my words sink in, and then continue. “When we were blessed with the gift of airbending, we were given the responsibility for finding peaceful solutions in places where peace does not seem possible. That is our duty.”
“But, Master Y/N.” one of the students speaks up with curiosity. “I thought that was our role until Avatar Korra recovers.”
I frown slightly at the mention of my friend’s name but quickly recover. “It will always be our role, before and after Avatar Korra returns.”
The questioning student nods, and silence reappears.
I continue. “It doesn’t matter who is better or who is worse. We are not children on a playground. We are peacekeepers. How can you keep the peace when you start petty fights over petty squabbles? In doing so, you go against everything what it is to be an Air Nomad. Of course, there is no harm in a friendly competition. There are many times where I’ve been sparring with other airbenders or racing on air scooters. We are allowed to have fun and enjoy life. But what was about to happen before I arrived was not that. The fight that was close to erupting was going to be violence born of rage. Do you all understand the difference?”
The Air Nomads nod in confirmation, including Gao and Xan. Good. They have learned something at least.
Letting out a sigh of relief, I nod. “Good. I hope not to see anything like that again. We are all family. There should not be any resentment between us. We are better than that. We are Air Nomads.”
I gaze upon my students and see them glancing at each other, now beginning to understand. They are brothers and sisters, now. They should love each other like family.
Despite everything going on, one thing that I love is teaching. Seeing my students progress is so satisfying to watch and I am honoured to be a part of that progress.
Seeing this, I reward them with a warm smile. “Now, swiftly moving on, let’s begin the actual lesson.”
TIME SKIP
Tenzin, Pema, the Air Kids and I arrive at the Central City Station just in time. As I arrive onto the scene, I see Kyuni, Mako and Prince Wu discussing about something. The former spots us at the corner of her eye and her face lights up.
“Y/N. You made it.”
With the mention of my name, Mako and Wu turn to me, and smiles go on their faces too. I give them a big smile and exchange a quick hug with Kyuni.
“Of course I did.” I tell her and then Mako and I lock hands and pull each other into a hug. “Mako, its great to see you. It’s been a while.”
“It has.” The bodyguard says, a small smile on his lips. “It’s great to see you too, Y/N.”
After dealing with my inner turmoil these past few hours, this is just what I need. A reunion between friends.
“So…Y/N.” Wu leans in, an eyebrow raised in what I guess is supposed to come across as attractive but instead comes across as embarrassing. “We meet again.”
I hold back a disgusted and tired sigh. Not this shit again. This is another reason why I dislike this guy. He seems to flirt with anyone he finds remotely attractive immediately without any shame. This is the second or third time with me I swear.
“Unfortunately.” I say in the most disinterested tone as possible. “Is it your coronation yet?”
“Nope!” He replies, completely unaware of my lack of enthusiasm. “Soon, though!”
“Not soon enough.” I mutter. Then, I realise something. “Where’s Asami?”
“Over there with President Raiko.” Kyuni answers, pointing to the entrance of Central City Station. Turning to where she’s pointing, I see Asami in her red and black clothing, jet-black hair tied in a ponytail while one half dangling on the right side of her face. Standing on the left, President Raiko stands tall and proud with his usual purple suit and tinted glasses.
Asami and I exchange eye contact and she waves with a smile. I wave back.
“Attention, everyone!” President Raiko begins, voice loud and proud. “Thank you all for attending to this wonderful occasion. This is a historical moment in our beloved Republic City.”
His speech goes on for a few minutes. He talks about the station and thanks to all the people who contributed to its construction. Then, finally, he gestures to Asami.
“And of course, my biggest thanks goes to Asami Sato and Future Industries.” He says, sounding even more prideful than before. She brought our old central terminal into the modern era. Ladies and gentlemen, the world is entering a new age of peace and prosperity.”
My smile widens at that. I’m so proud of Asami. She deserves it.
But Raiko continues. “Soon, Prince Wu will take his rightful place on the Earth Kingdom throne. And thanks to our updated rail system, Republic City and the Earth Kingdom will be united like never before!”
While the crowd applause, me included, as Raiko and Asami cut the red ribbon in front of them to make the reopening of the station official, I frown in displeasure as I see Wu arrogantly striking pose after pose in front of a reporter with a camera.
Why is this idiot taking over the Earth Kingdom? He’s childish, immature, arrogant, irresponsible, and a wimp. He’s not fit to be King. Spirits, he isn’t even fit to be a babysitter. I can’t tell what’s worse. A dictatorial Queen or an incompetent King.
Speaking of Wu, as soon as the crowd dies down and Asami finishes talking to a reporter he walks up to her with a smug look. Uh oh.
“Hey there! Asami, right? Great train house. Maybe you can give me a personal tour sometime, what do you say?”
Oh spirits.
Thankfully, Asami isn’t putting up with his crap. I do like the idea of putting you on a train and sending you far, far away.”
Ohhhh snap.
The prince chuckles, trying to play her annoyance off cooly. “That's ... that's funny. I like funny dames. Maybe I should introduce myself. I'm Prince Wu, future king.”
Okay, I’m not letting this continue.
“Sorry, your majesty.” I say to him, saying his royal title in a mocking tone. “But you got business to attend to.”
Mako adds on, clearly enthusiastic as I am to get rid of him. “President Raiko wants to talk to you. Now.”
Clearly disappointed at having his chances to “woo” Asami have been thwarted, he lets out a disappointed sigh. “Fine.” Then, he winks at her. “I’ll be back.”
I hope not.
As he walks away, I turn back to Asami and I give her a hug. “It’s nice to see you, Asami. I’m so happy for you!”
“Me too.” Mako adds on.
“Thanks, you two!” She cheerly responds, reciprocating the hug. “It’s good to see you both again too! How was the Fire Nation, Y/N?”
Trying my hardest not to wince at the name which brings back the uncomfortable memories, I give her a casual shrug in an attempt to look nonchalant. “Eh, the usual. Got to meet the Fire Lord and the Princess. And Lord Zuko too.”
Kyuni snorts. “Oh yeah, Asami, I just met three of the most powerful people in the world. You know, normal stuff.”
Asami chuckles at that while I playfully elbow Kyuni at the side. Then, I elbow Mako and begin chuckling too. “Mako here gets to meet royalty every day. Very lucky guy.”
Knowing full well how he feels about who he is protecting, Mako lets a disgruntled sigh. “Yeah. Lucky. That’s one way to put it.”
“How can you even stand him?” Asami asks him.
“Well, I just remind myself that once he's on the throne, I go back to being a detective.”
“And that works?”
“I also go home, and smash my head into the wall for an hour, you know, just to get the stress out.”
That makes us all erupt in laughter, my laughing getting so bad that I have to wipe tears from my eyes.
“It’s been too long.” Asami says when we finally calm down. “Have any of you heard from Bolin?”
I shake my head. “Nope. It’s been a while since I got a letter from him. Last time I heard from him he said he’s doing good with Kuvira.”
Kuvira.
No. Don’t think about her also.
“I haven’t spoken to him in a while either.” Mako adds. “But he is coming for the coronation in a few days. The Chief told me Korra is arriving tonight too.”
I resist to wince once again. Spirits, this is going to be hard, huh?
“Yeah, I told Y/N about it last night.” Kyuni says. “It’s going to be great to see her again. It’s been so long.”
“It really has.” Asami adds. “I can’t wait to see her again.”
“Same.” I force out, trying to sound as casual as I can. I glance around and I notice Wu talking to Tenzin, Lin, and Raiko. They all look pretty serious about something, the prince in particular looks kinda nervous.
My curiosity rising and unable to resist it, I quickly mutter a “Be right back” and start walking towards the group. I manage to catch a bit from Beifong with the word “assassinated” and I further tense up a bit.
“Is something wrong, Tenzin?” I ask him, standing to the side of him and catching their attention.
“Nothing to worry about.” He assures me. “We were assuring Prince Wu that he will be protected by the United Forces when he is escorted to Ba Sing Se after the coronation.”
“Apparently Kuvira has mostly dispersed the bandits.” Wun grumbles, not really sounding assured himself. “Whatever that means.”
I frown at the mention of the name. So long trying to not think about her.
When Kuvira took on the task to stabilize the Earth Kingdom, I was completely proud and impressed by her. Suyin was being her typical selfish self and turned her back on the people suffering all over the nation while she sat in her fancy home in her utopian city. Hearing her protégé defy her mentor’s wishes and do what is right was so admirable.
And then…the whispers started. Terrible whispers. Whispers about Kuvira acting like some sort of dictator. Whispers of “re-education camps.” Whispers of people suffering.
The words of her letter to me flash in my mind. She wanted me to join her. I refused. She hasn’t written to me since.
I have told Tenzin all of this and he’s sent this all to President Raiko but he’s being stubborn. He’s so convinced that the situation can be handled once she steps down after the coronation. If she steps down, I mean.
“Knowing Kuvira, she probably has made the Earth Kingdom secured.” I say in a displeased tone. Then, staring at Raiko I add “Even if it came at a great cost.”
Raiko frowns at my last comment. He knows all too well how I feel about this.
“Um, I’m not sure I’m following?” Wu adds, voice mixed with confusion and worry.
Crossing my arms, I continue glaring at the President. “I’m just saying that Kuvira might not be completely trustworthy given the rumours spreading around.”
“Y/N…” Tenzin mutters warningly.
Wu’s worry amplifies. “Uh, rumours? What rumours?”
Finally, I glance at the prince. “Rumours that Kuvira has-“
“-Rumours you shouldn’t worry about, Prince Wu.” Raiko interrupts with a sharp edge. “Because they are just that. Rumours. Even if some of them are accurate, they will be dealt with when Kuvira steps down.”
I turn back to him. “If she steps down.”
“Wait, what?” Wu asks. “She might not step down?”
“She will.” Raiko says, glaring dead into my eyes. “With all due respect, Master Y/N, but I do not appreciate what you are spouting. You have already made your point loud and clear these past few months. You need not to repeat yourself.”
Oh, that arrogant-
“I apologise on behalf of Y/N, President Raiko.” Tenzin cuts in before I can retaliate. “While I too have similar concerns, we shall trust your judgement.”
The airbending master then gives me a narrowed stare which probably means “Stop this now.”
I resist an exhausted sigh then force an apologetic smile. “I apologise, President. I shall leave you all be.”
I can feel their stares on my back as I walk away from the group and back towards my friends.
Again, this inaction. Again, the incompetence. Again, the arrogance! DAMMIT!
When I became an airbender I swore an oath to non-aggression. I, along with every Air Nomad, must find a peaceful solution first and foremost and must not act violently and aggressively. We only fight when it’s the last resort. I’ve been teaching that to dozens of students since becoming a master. And yet, despite the confidence I display in the words I lecture to my students, the reality is much different.
Peace must always come first. I know this and I admire the Air Nomads for trying to find a peaceful resolution in a troubling situation. But one crucial flaw of their, quite frankly, naïve ideology is that they aren’t willing to do what’s needed to be done as soon as possible. Kuvira’s growing power and threat must be dealt with and yet Tenzin contends with telling President Raiko about it, who of course will just dismiss it.
The New Air Nation is a great improvement to the isolated old nomads but there is still room to grow. But I have a feeling this is one flaw that will never be corrected.
Finally releasing a tense sigh, I force a smile as I reunite with my friends.
Tenzin is probably going to talk to me later. I just know it.
TIME SKIP
“Y/N, can I have a word?”
Yep. He’s gonna talk to me about it.
“If this is about earlier, I am not apologising to you for what I said.” I bluntly tell my mentor as we reach to a quiet corner of the dining area of Air Temple Island. Its now sunset and President Raiko, his wife, Lin, Mako, Asami, Kyuni, Prince Wu, and the rest are here.
Its been a good amount of hours since the reopening of the Central City Station. This lecture I’m probably going to be given any second now really should have been earlier, but Tenzin was busy. Plus, I have a slight feeling he has been putting off somewhat. I know he knows how I feel about this situation.
“And I’m not asking you to.” Tenzin replies. “However, you have to be more careful what you say sometimes.”
I scoff. “I was just speaking what we both think. You are worried just as much as I am.”
“I am.” He admits. “But we heard what Raiko said.”
“Raiko isn’t always right.” I retort with a huff. “We can’t just sit here and do nothing!”
My comment seems to have rubbed the airbending master the wrong way as I see him frown slightly. “What are you suggesting, Y/N?”
Dammit.
I bite back a retort. I don’t want to start an argument. Not here and not now.
“Forgive me, Tenzin.” I say. “I meant no suggestion. I’m just frustrated.”
“I know.” He says, placing a comforting hand onto my right shoulder. “But remember the principals we uphold as Air Nomads. It isn’t too late for a peaceful resolution to happen. For all we know, Kuvira might step down when Prince Wu is coronated.”
“And if she doesn’t?”
He doesn’t respond for a while. Then, he lets go of my shoulder and sigh.
“I don’t know. But I’m certain we all can handle it.”
A vague answer. I guess that’s the best I’m going to get.
When we depart, I walk up to Kyuni who is drinking a glass of water, leaning against the wall.
“Hey.” I tell her. “You good?”
“Never better.” She says, then nods towards where I just was with Tenzin. “What was that all about?”
I sigh. “I had a slight argument with President Raiko earlier at the Central City Station. Tenzin was just telling me to watch what I’m saying.”
She snorts. “I mean, he’s right about that. You do have a habit of speaking your mind a lot.”
“Hey!” I retort half-offended. “I think that’s an admirable quality to have.”
“It’s certainly an attractive quality.” Kyuni agrees. “But it can sometimes get you into trouble.”
“At least it gets stuff done.” I counter. A weak argument, I know, but I still persist.
Kyuni sighs and gives me a playful nudge. “Hey, I know you’re worried about what’s going on in the Earth Kingdom. I am too. But maybe it won’t be as bad as you think its going to be. With Korra back, maybe she can do something.”
Yeah. Korra, who’s going to be back in any second.
I open my mouth to speak but before I can get a word in, an Air Acolyte walks into the room with complete excitement.
“There’s a Southern Water Tribe ship pulling up to the dock!”
While the children let out an excited cheer of “Korra!” my blood freezes to ice. I hear nothing but the pounding of my heart.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
A hand wraps around my own and tugs me forward. I look up and see Kyuni giving me a small smile. I force one back and let her pull me forward. I see her opening her mouth to say something but I don’t hear it. I just keep hearing my heartbeat.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
We walk outside the Air Temple and down the ramp where the large and powerful ship is waiting for us.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Naga rushes out the ship with obvious enthusiasm.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Korra is here.
Tonraq walks out the ship…alone.
The frantic heartbeats stop. I return to reality.
Wait…alone?
“Tonraq.” Tenzin greets, shaking hands with him. “It's good to have you back in the city. And everyone is excited to see the Avatar again.”
The Chief of the Southern Water Trible looks…puzzled. “What do you mean? Isn't Korra already here?”
The frantic heartbeat returns, more powerful than ever, but for an entirely different reason.
What is he talking about?
“No, we thought she was coming with you.” Tenzin replies but his excitement is now gone, replaced by confusion and…worry.
Tonraq too begins to worry, his eyes flashing with concern. “Korra left the South Pole six months ago. She's written me letters. She said she was here in Republic City.”
As the words leave his lips, everything falls apart.
Left six months ago…
Left six months ago.
LEFT SIX MONTHS AGO!
LEFT SIX MONTHS AGO!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
I don’t think. I act.
Dropping Kyuni’s hand like its on fire, I rush with a speed that rivals the strike of a lightning bolt further into the island. I ignore the cries of my name and pleas with me to stop. I ignore them all.
KORRA HAS BEEN GONE FOR SIX MONTHS! SHE COULD BE ANYWHERE! SHE COULD BE IN DANGER! FUCK FUCK FUCK!
“Spectre!” I shout into the wind and a few seconds later my air bison emerges from the now night sky. I quickly hop on top of the bison.
“Y/N!”
I look back and see Kyuni, Jinora, and a few others rushing up to me. “WAIT!
I ignore them all.
“Yip yip.”
And in a flash, Spectre lifts off and flies into the sky with an urgency. Our bond allows him to know the panicked state I’m in.
I don’t know where I’m going. I don’t know where she is. But I will find her. I will save her.
I will not fail her again.

And that's it!
I hope you all enjoyed it!
Feedback is appreciated!
See you all in the next chapter! :D

Korrasami Ficlet: Maroon and Blossoms
Asami walks in Avatar Korra park, where apple blossom trees line the paths. It is early morning, the sky still a violet-black hue, and the stars are only starting to fade away as the sun approaches the horizon with a faint maroon glow to the east.
When she first designed the park, she thought suggestions of a tree-lined path is silly, but the more research she did, the more she realized that the blossoms are a wonderful herald of her love for Korra. They bloom near the date of an important anniversary for them, and their maroon and violet coloration fill the air with a plethora of color when they fall after their brief week in existence.
She refuses to view the blossoms as a sign of Korra and her connection being fleeting, but more that the blossoms are a sign of the commitment to her love, where each year she redoes that commitment in the rain of color. That is her hope made manifest in these lined paths.
So she walks the paths that curl through the trees that only bloom once a year. Today is a special day, one she wishes would last for much longer, if only out of her fear of what may come next. In her arms, she holds a bouquet of flowers, and although she knows this is silly of her to do, she finds herself drawn to the statue at the center of the park anyway.
She pauses before the statue that she had commissioned nearly two years ago. Or is it three now? Time loses meaning when she's caught up in her long hard climb out of near bankruptcy. Now Future Industries barely makes even, but the city has been reshaped. Like her mother before her, she has placed her thumbprint on the city. Beltways curl above vines and shattered former roads, buildings once broken are rebuilt. She aids the Air Nation in keeping the Spirit Wilds protected, but also, building safer passage to the outskirts of those wilds. People no longer go homeless or hungry with her homeless housing projects and soup kitchens. Lower income people learn engineering with her forums. The public's view of Future Industries has never been better, and it is all due to her hard work.
All of this she has shared with Korra in her letters.
She rests her hand on the pedestal and looks up at the regal stance of Korra, her fist upraised as if challenging the world. The idea of the statue came on a whim, when she'd overheard Ikki and Meelo arguing over whether Korra would get a statue someday and how big it'd be.
Perhaps this statue isn't as big as Ikki and Meelo imagined, but Asami finds too large a statue would ruin the aesthetics of the skyline, so she chooses a size that works well with the surrounding area, but is still large enough to be epic in scope. It is only prudent that such a statue showcase her courage and determination. Those parts of her is one of the many reasons Asami fell in love with her.
"Today is our anniversary," she says to the statue, her voice quiet. There are little people in the park at this hour, since it's early morning and only determined fitness people are out running the paths. This is why Asami chooses this hour, though she knows Korra would never be awake for it.
Asami climbs onto the pedestal and sits between the legs, the bouquet of flowers in her lap. "This is the day I met you for the first time," she says to the statue. "Do you remember, Korra?"
_ _ _
Asami is frustrated and angry at her father, but she cannot show it. He demands she attend this… gala by Councilman Tarrlok, a bender that she absolutely abhors mostly due to his blatant discriminatory attitude toward nonbenders. Unlike Tenzin, who is the fairest and most open to making sure voices like hers is heard, Tarrlok sometimes mocks nonbenders with quips she finds tasteless, yet her father always laughs. Why she doesn't know.
She knows her father will punish her if she doesn't go, though whether he will follow through on his threat any time soon is unknown. Sometimes the punishments come unexpectedly after a few weeks of quiet between them, but they always come.
Their most recent set of fights has perhaps been the most intense yet. Asami believes he is failing her mother's legacy with the slow firing of benders, especially when more and more come to her quietly to confide their worries in hopes she will listen. She always listens, especially since she goes to the factory to assist with the engineering there. She enjoys the work fixing the lines, repairing engines, and learning tricks from the more experienced engineers. She finds comfort in them that she has lost with her father.
It is these whispered confessions to her that sends her to her father's factory office. She chooses the date and time for when she knows he will neck-deep in meetings, and picks the lock to his office. A skill she doesn't let him know she has, mostly because how else would she ever learn anything?
The ledgers are locked in a cabinet, but it takes her nearly ten minutes of searching each of the six cabinets to find the employees rosters. She carefully locks each one and hides evidence of her perusal, but the ledger from the current year is the one that catches her eye. There are discrepancies she finds odd. When she hears a sharp whistle three times, she realizes that her father must have returned early from his meetings. Three whistles gives her only a few minutes to exit. She hurriedly locks the cabinet and the office, and shoves the ledger into her jacket.
The employee that gave the signal glances at her and then looks toward the side. She nods and hurries in the direction of his gaze. She barely ducks behind a line when her father enters the factory with one of the councilmen's aides. He is boasting about their vehicles for the police force, but the fact he is back earlier confuses her.
She quietly leaves and spends that evening alone in her room, taking her dinner to her bed and citing feeling ill to avoid dinner with her father. Asami doesn't wish to believe bad of her father, but the more she examines the employee rosters, the more her spirits sink.
When he confronts her over the missing ledger the next day, she finds she can't lie to him.
"Yes, I took it." She holds her head high. It's best to have confidence in one's work, and she is quite proud of how effortless it is to break into his offices.
"Is this a joke to you?" Her father snaps. He holds out his hand. "I have worked hard to get us to where we are today, and yet you still fail to see the larger picture. Instead, playing games and mingling with commoners."
"They're our employees, father, and they do great work. I don't mind working with them…"
"You are my daughter, and as such, you will hold yourself to a higher standard." There is practically spit flying from his mouth, his anger far more intense than she'd ever seen it prior.
Asami clenches her fists and decides she might as well go all in to advocate for those unjustly harmed in her father's practices. "Father, I think perhaps, you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. That ledger I found is proof you've been firing only benders and hiring only nonbenders. Whatever happened to the clause you and mother wrote before I was born? A company for all people to build their dreams?"
His face turns maroon. "Everything I do is for your mother and for you. I have done my best to raise you with a heart set on justice, and this is how you repay me? I expect the ledger back on my desk before dinner. We are Satos, Asami, we must see the larger picture."
Asami doesn't want to hear this lecture again. She is tired of this 'bigger picture' especially if it means him dragging her to more galas. Him telling her what to say to the older men she abhors. She wants to work in engineering. She wants to work on her own designs and build the airship idea she has so carefully crafted. Instead, she lives in his shadow, never fully in his circle but never allowed off his leash.
So she pivots and sprints out of the mansion. She storms to the garage, jumps on her moped, and leaves the mansion angry and frustrated. She feels helpless, especially as she has failed those employees that confided their worries in her. They are likely to be next on the firing block, and she has no hope that anything she says will stop her father's unjust practices. Not if he is so enamored with whatever his 'bigger picture' is.
Because of this, her thoughts are far too occupied and she fails to pay attention to her surroundings. This causes her to literally run into Mako, one of the Fire Ferrets. An amazingly interesting coincidence that she simply must take up, and thus invites him on a date right away. It gives her time away from her father, time to get home late and secretly make copies of the ledger before she returns it, and time to have a little fun away from the pressures of being a Sato.
It is partly because he's a firebender that she chose to date Mako, but also because she's terribly lonely. Mako is kind to her. Willing to listen to her. Cuddle with her.
Most importantly, he's willing to go to this wretched gala with her. She invites him mostly because it will annoy her father. She only feels excitement when he admits to personally knowing Avatar Korra and how the gala is in her honor. Meeting the Avatar sounds amazing to her, especially as she has been reading of prior Avatars at night, when her father is least likely to bother her. She knows he doesn't like her reading such books, so it's a thrill of defiance.
The day before and day of the gala, she peppers him with questions, eager to learn anything and everything about this elusive Avatar. For Avatar Korra to pop up during a time of unrest in Republic City is strange timing in Asami's eyes, but it's also a chance for her to meet someone that is truly a hope for the future.
The Avatar is meant to be harmony and the balance. Surely she can bring harmony between nonbenders and benders.
Their entrance to the gala is, as expected, full of annoying old men eager to kiss her hand. She finds this distasteful, boring, and too overwhelming. Mako is steady at her side to her relief, and dotes on her in a way no other date has ever done. Asami finds this quite endearing.
Her father's barely concealed irritation at his presence is a wonderful balm to her soul. This is her payback for the punishment from her ledger theft prior.
On the second circuit, Asami sees a teenager about her age, much shorter than her and Mako, standing near Tenzin, one of the few kind benders on the council.
The girl is tapping her foot, looking very annoyed, and like Asami, she obviously doesn't want to be here at this gala. She wears the blue water tribe colors, a dress of sorts, but its stitches are definitely well crafted. Her pendant has the water tribe insignia on it, the colors match the deep cerulean of her eyes.
It's when the teenager looks up that Asami finds herself breathless. She is absolutely beautiful. Her brown skin has copper undertones, her square jaw has a soft curve to her chin, and she has an adorable little nose. Despite the slight scowl she holds, she embodies herself with a confidence Asami has never known.
Asami can pretend to be confident. She's quite good at it when called upon, but quietly, she struggles with whether she can ever live up to her father's increasingly impossible demands. However, tonight she wears that confidence cloak the best she can. It helps to have Mako on her arm steadying her.
To her dismay, Tarrlok approaches and exchanges greetings with her father. He looks even more styled up, like a bucket of grease had been upended on his ridiculous hair, and the cut of his attire is far too sharp on his broad shoulders. She molds her face into a smile.
Thankfully, her father walks ahead of her and Mako, talking with Tarrlok about something she can't quite hear. She treads after them with a stifled sigh.
"Oh, hey, i know that person," Mako says, brightly. "You should meet her!"
Asami follows his gaze to the water tribe teenager. She tugs him in her direction, now certain that this is the Avatar who he works with often.
As they walk up to her father's side, Hiroshi gestures to herself and Mako. "This is my daughter Asami."
Asami smiles. Despite the frown on Korra's face, she is still so beautiful. Asami almost forgets Mako is still holding her arm. "It's lovely to meet you. Mako's told me so much about you."
"Really? Because he hasn't mentioned you at all. How did you two meet?" The disdain in her voice and the scowl she makes doesn't deter Asami. In fact, she finds it endearing. It ignites a curiosity, and she decides that she will befriend the Avatar even if it's the last thing she does.
_ _ _
Asami wipes away a tear at the memory. "Oh, how you hated me at first. But that racecar ride really shook things up, didn't it?"
She smiles at the memory of how effortlessly she defeated the other driver and how much Korra had enjoyed it, calling her way cool.
"Your arrival in my life sure upended everything," she says, quietly. "My father tried to instill in me a sense of justice, but it was you who reminded me that justice cannot be won through violence alone. To see my father take the route of only violence, but you take route different from both my father and Tarrlok? It's why I turned against my father for you. You, the embodiment of harmony, and despite the twists and turns we've taken, you've proven that you have a heart bent toward justice and harmony like me. A kindred spirit."
It feels obvious now how much Asami likes Korra from the start, and she feels sad at how long it took them to truly to get to know each other. How Mako's indecision and betrayals kept getting in the way, but now, she has hope. A hope that things will be different this time.
For one, they get along so well during the boat rides to and from the South, during the airship travels, their adventures escaping Zaheer, and the letters.
Secondly, her letters might have been one-sided for two years, but then Korra replies only to her.
That is hope enough. Asami takes what she can get.
"I'm not sure when you will return," she tells the statue. "But your last letter implied you knew of a way to find your Avatar state again. I hope that is what you find, Korra. That it will lead you back to me."
She lays the flower bouquet she has been holding between Korra's legs, like she has done since the statue was erected a mere week before the anniversary.
"Be safe," she says quietly. She climbs down to the ground and bows her head.
Only to feel an intense kick to her spirit.
Abruptly, the memory of her and Korra lost in a desert flutters into her mind. They'd taken the Earth Kingdom airship, except Korra's overzealous airbending breaks the controls and leaves them temporarily stranded. Asami is an engineer, however, and she quickly repairs the airship. Only for the sand shark to devour it, but Asami is, if anything, undaunted by the setback. She simply constructs a sandsailer instead, and together her and Korra navigate the desert as a seamless team. It is perhaps the most joy she's ever felt in her life.
Yet, this time, as she stands in Avatar Korra park, Asami has a sense that she's walking with Korra, directing her somewhere, but the moment as sudden as it comes, vanishes.
Startled, she turns. Not to her surprise, the area around the statue is empty of people. The sky still burns a deep violet-blue as the sun slowly rises.
She is alone.
She sighs.
Asami intimately knows the interior workings of being alone. People in her life never stay for long, and loss is something that she understands far too well. Sometimes the grief threatens to tear her to pieces, but she's made it this far. She can keep going a little longer, especially since Korra had promised in her last letter that she would return to Asami. Asami wonders if perhaps her fate is about to change. Perhaps that is why she felt that odd kick to her spirit, that comforting sense of Korra.
Or perhaps it's all her overactive imagination, but it reminds her of her next big task of the day.
It's time to pay a visit to Naga.
There she will whisper of her sorrow, loneliness, hope, and joy to the polar bear dog, who always listens so patiently. Naga has been steadfast in these six months, and their time together has grown more numerous. She visits the island several times a week to play with Naga. At least once a week, she has ridden Naga through the city. Partly because Naga needs a good run sometimes, but also because she knows it annoys President Raiko. (She is quite happy to annoy him as much as viably possible. He is far too stuck-up his own ass and needs to be taken down a notch sometimes. Plus, Naga is excellent at scaring off reporters, who are determined to harass her for their gossip-y stories. She's had quite enough of interviews for a lifetime and wishes she to never do another again.)
In her pockets, Asami has some dog biscuits. She hasn't dared to bake any herself. The last time she tried, Naga barfed them back up, so she buys them at a local pet store that specializes in exotic pets.
The owners, a month ago, had begged her to bring Naga by. Although Asami knows Naga isn't hers -- Naga is Korra's animal companion -- she finds herself racing Naga past the place a few times, just to delight the owners. Naga adores the attention. The biscuits they bring out when Asami stops Naga at their door excites Naga so much, that Asami can't help but drop by to pick up an order for Naga. (She hopes Naga isn't gaining too much weight. But how can she resist those fluffy ears and soulful brown eyes?)
Asami smiles at the thought of Naga. Perhaps today she will take Naga here to the park and race through the tree-lined paths.
Several maroon and violet blossoms fall from the trees as she walks toward where she had parked her precious blue satomobile. They land quietly around her, a herald of her undying love for Korra. Asami holds out her hand to catch a blossom, and brings it to her lips. "I hereby commit my heart to Korra," she says quietly into the soft petals, "in hopes that Korra may one day be open to receiving it."
She releases the blossom, and with it, her hopes soar high into the air.

What does the krew think to mako calling wu "honey"? i think that they'd be freaked about by it, since to them their relationship came out of nowhere. also im pretty sure mako used to call korra that. ther ewas like one scene where he called her that but it was cringy to me because their whole relationship felt flat
Sooo not that I've thought about this much (that's a lie I've thought about this a lot) but Mako called Korra 'Sweetie' when they were together, and Asami called Mako 'Sweetie' when they were together. Sweetie was the only term of endearment in those situations.
Tenzin and Pema call each other 'Honey' and 'Dear', Pema calls Tenzin 'Sweetie', Bolin called Eska 'dear', Bataar Sr calls Suyin 'dear', Su calls Bataar Sr 'Sweetie', Bolin calls Opal 'Sweetie'.... I think those are the main examples of terms of endearment for couples...
So I thought about that a lot when I was landing on 'Honey' for Mako... I wondered if Sweetie would work because it would put his relationship with Wu on the same level as his prior relationships, thus giving it some validation or something??? Or a different name because his relationship with Wu is different and will actually last? I struggled to decide. My beta reader felt like Honey worked a little better and once I landed on it I liked it better too.
As far as how the Krew reacts... I think it's just kind of jarring at first! But after they hear it a handful of times no one thinks twice about it. Do Korra and Asami call each other anything in the comics??? I can't remember.

oliver was born and raised in denver, colorado . as the son of a political analyst and lawyer, he's always known a life of privilege. at seven years old he stole a lunch tray from the cafeteria and used it to slide down a mountain in his backyard, as he sat in the emergency room with a cast on his arm he decided that he would dedicate his life to snowboarding.
with his parent's resources, the young thrill seeker spent his afternoons on a mountain training with the best coach money could buy. by age 12 he had several medals under his belt, and by 15 he was training to make his debut at the junior olympics. brands started knocking on his door and before he knew it sports illustrated dubbed him a rising star . much to everyone's surprise fame didn't seem to affect the teen , he was good in front of a camera but once the flashes died he retreated inside of himself.
as a kid who was often neglected due to his parent's work , oliver found comfort in the pages of various romance novels his nanny used to lend him . when he was sixteen a ray of light came into his life, a boy his age that attended the same gym. behind his conservative parents backs, he discovered that he was bisexual. what was supposed to be a secret romance came to light after someone leaked the story to a sports magazine. it's no coincidence that the day after a large sum of money was withdrawn from the farrow's bank account the boy he'd grown so fond of moved away and blocked his phone number.
by age 20 he scored a gold medal for the united states , making him one of the most famous athletes in the country. it seemed that oliver had all the cards stacked in his favor - never mind the fact that his relationship with his parents sucked or that people only approached him because they wanted a piece of him - no one could deny he was at the best anyone had seen in years.
four years after his big win, oliver was getting ready for his second shot at a medal when he got into an accident that would alter the course of his life. he remembers his heart pounding inside his helmet, the white that decorated the track as he soared, and the moment everything went black. three surgeries and a busted hip later the doctors told him he would never compete again
devastation came without precursor , what he loved the most suddenly ripped from his grasp. he moved to chicago for a fresh start and scored a job as a sports journalist. the glass has never been half full for the farrow boy and with anger as his new best friend he's trying to find a way to live in this new reality.

can i ask which comics are the ones you don't like? i thought "the promise" and "the search" were pretty good, but i never read any of the ones that came after that.
I only like two Avatar comics. "Lost Adventures" because is just the characters doing their thing, and the recent "Azula In The Spirit Temple" because it was the first time in many years in which anyone on the writting team remembered "Oh yeah, Azula used to be an actual character that just happened to have a breakdown in the finale instead of a deeply offensive, ableist mockery of mentally ill people that we have be constantly physically abused when she's doing literally nothing just because mentally ill = evil"
That's not to say there aren't any good moments in the comics I didn't like, only that:
1 - There's not enough of said good moments for me to want to read it again.
2 - There are way too many HORRIBLE things in them for me to consider them canon.
I still prefer most of them to Korra though, because at least I was just angry instead of angry AND bored out of my mind.

THREE SHIPS:
resisting the urge to fill this with my oc x canon ships, sO:
Roy Mustang x Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist I recently finished a book where within the first few chapters, I looked up on the subway and put the book down and squinted, thinking to myself wait. Is this Royai fanfic? Turns out, it probably was! The author posted about finishing the manga back in 2019, the book came out in 2022 (I think) and was billed as Fullmetal Alchemist meets (Something I can’t remember). Anyway, Royai has my entire heart, because if there’s one trope that has a stronghold on me it is Dedicated Leader with a Mission x Their Unflinchingly Loyal Second-in-Command Who Will Literally Follow Them Into Hell. The mission comes first! They cannot admit their love to each other! They’re also childhood acquaintances????? An apprentice x master’s daughter????????? And atoning for war crimes?????????????????? AHhHHHHHhHHhHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Haymitch Abernathy x Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games: Listen. Listen. I’m rereading the series now and apparently what happens when you read them ten years later is that instead of having a big crush on Finnick and shipping Finnick x Annie, you notice that Haymitch is a fantastic smart, snarky, tortured character and Effie is way more resilient and clever than she lets herself on to be and IDK I JUST. Must resist the urge to write the events of the Main Trilogy, but oops Haymitch and Effie were secretly hooking up the whole time. I have stuff to do. I have other fic to write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leorio x Kurapika from Hunter x Hunter: At any given moment, they are constantly in the back of my mind. I have my bad HxH brainworms from 2021 to thank for getting me back into fic and tumblr fandom and I just pulled a 35K fic outta my ass in 2021 somehow and even though I'm not writing for them much anymore, I love them with my whole damn heart and I can summon that love with a snap of my fingers.
LAST FILM:
I had to watch a movie for work last week that is out this week and I really wanted to like it but it disappointed me SO MUCH. :’(
CURRENTLY WATCHING:
I’m kicking off Season three of The Legend of Korra! I finally at long last watched ATLA this year (I KNOW I KNOW), and now I’m working my way through Korra. I’m also watching Spice and Wolf and the new seasons of JJK and Spy x Family.
CURRENTLY READING:
I am rereading the Hunger Games trilogy! I also checked out three new books from the library and I'm torn on which one I should bring on Thanksgiving vacation (it's an Agatha Christie, a dark contemporary fantasy, and a witchy rom-com). Might go with the Christie since it is the Lightest (like, physically).
CURRENTLY CONSUMING:
Chunky Monkey Ice Cream <3 (I have a pint in the fridge that my husband specifically got just for me since he's allergic to banana)
Ibuprofen for my sore shoulder :(
Coral Island
CURRENTLY CRAVING
A vacation that doesn't involve traveling to two different large Thanksgiving celebrations
A massage for said sore shoulder
A cup of tea (this one, at least, can easily be fixed)
