I see a lot of posts about Danny seeing Jason and immediately thinking he’s a baby ghost and wanting to adopt him but what if it’s the other way around?
What if Jason sees Danny and is hit with oh my god that’s a baby, who left a baby unattended out on the street?? He needs help, gotta protect him, mine, yeah he’s mine now, I got u lil guy don’t worry
Meanwhile 15 yr old Danny is like um hi?? And promptly gets kidnapped. But he just lets it happen because he’s actually feeling the safest he’s ever felt in his life with this guy, and Danny’s core immediately recognizes Jason as parental figure and just relaxes Danny 100%
Jasons feeling like Danny is a helpless baby while Danny feels safe, protect, calm, safe, relax, and he just lets Jason take him home. Neither are really sure why or what is going on with them but they’re not gonna stop it.
I think it’s because Danny’s own parents kinda suck and any other ghost that he’s interacted with he’s had to fight in some capacity or has been spooked by them. Jason’s the only one who 1) wanted to parent him and 2) has good vibes. Danny’s usually waiting for fights to happen and he’s very stressed. Jason calms him down so much he probably falls asleep before they even get to Jason’s apartment, full trust that Jason will take care of him.
Meanwhile Jason never really connects with his pit side, but really wants to find some way to have a truce. Cue Danny, and both Jason and the Pit turn to protectiveness and so the rage becomes more protection and Jason yk, might be kinda lonely and wanting something to take care of. He was probably thinking about getting a cat and not a kid but he’s not complaining

This is an older story of mine. It's called "Learning to Fly". It's a Jason/Danny story that I wrote before "Dead on Main" was a thing. Since that's getting popular now, I decided to share it with you guys. Enjoy the story!
Summary: The contamination from the Lazarus pit was slowly killing Jason—halfway. Batman finds someone to help him though the transition into halfa life. Time marches on, Jason finds love, and the Bats find their place in legend.
Story teaser below the cut
Jason stared down at the city below him. Everything was well-lit and small businesses lined the streets. There was even a children’s park, bright in the moonlight. A few police cars patrolled the area to maintain the level of peace that had come over the place that used to have the name “Crime Alley”.
It had taken years to complete the clean-up and ensure that this would be a safe place in Gotham. Jason had poured much of his life/after-life into the project. He had started the project while he was still human, and at times he had even gotten help of the Bat-kind. That had changed when Danny came into his life. His now-husband had given him the tools necessary to make the incredible change possible.
He smiled then, at the thought of his husband, who was likely doing a nightly run to survey his own city. And although the cities were not close, the distance between them was negated by simply using portals to zip back and forth between the two. The cities’ locations didn’t really matter, though, as the pair actually made their home elsewhere…in the Zone. But there was no one left alive who would know that. All the people who mattered now resided happily in the Zone close to them.
With that in mind, he decided to call it a night, and Gotham’s cryptid, Jason Todd, opened a portal and stepped into the Ghost Zone. He had deliberately entered the Zone a bit further from home than usual. He wanted time to think and remember everything that had brought him this far. Some days were just like that.
Way back in the time when the Bat clan roamed the streets, Jason had died and been resurrected. That was probably one of his most painful memories. No one liked reliving their death—especially the dead themselves. Then there was the Pit madness, his rampage as Red Hood, his eventual reconciliation with his family, and after several years, the painful ecto-sickness that turned him into a halfa.
It had been a harrowing time. Bruce didn’t know what to do, and no one knew how to treat him.  At the time, the Anti-Ecto Acts were still in place, so there was nowhere to legally turn for help. That didn’t stop the Bat from bringing all his resources to bear. It was the Replacement, of all people, who found the answers that they needed. Tim had found a small town in Amity Park, Illinois that was targeted by the Ghost Investigation Ward—the same organization that was rumored to be after Jason.
The Bat clan went into full research mode and so much of what they found, both legally and illegally, brought light to Jason’s situation. He wasn’t dying—not completely anyway—he was changing into something rare. He was becoming a half-ghost. A lot of technical details about the process had been hacked by Oracle from one man’s computers: Vlad Masters, billionaire, mayor, and apparent half-ghost himself. The man had thoroughly outlined the process in which he had become a halfa. It took the man twenty agonizing years to complete his transformation.
There was not much that could be done during Vlad’s time to speed up that process, at least not in Vlad’s early personal records. Master’s eventually had hypothesized that ectoplasm exposure would speed up the transformation, and finally ended his suffering by proving it. He had injected himself with ectoplasm repeatedly on a daily basis, and his twenty-years of “ecto-illness” was finally cured by the formation of a ghost core. That process completed his transition from extremely ill human to healthy half-ghost.
Vlad had also studied another halfa in detail. One Daniel J. Fenton, also known as the town hero/antihero Danny Phantom. This Phantom person had become a halfa in literally moments through exposure to high amounts of electricity and ectoplasm at the same time. He had been the town’s protector for almost ten years at the time of Jason’s illness.
Batman considered all of the information available and refused to let his son suffer for however long the process would take for him. After long talks with Jason about the potential side-effects of transition, the Bat secretly bought a large amount of ectoplasm and began Jason’s injection series. It very quickly turned the tide of the young man’s illness. They were confident that Vlad’s treatment would work for Jason, but that still left the issue of the ghost powers that the man would develop. He would need training.
Master’s information also had another extremely helpful tool—key to Jason’s training—the information on one Daniel J. Fenton/Phantom. Nightwing was the one tasked with making contact with the halfa in hopes of gaining more information about life as a halfa superhero—and possible help with teaching Jason the basics of living a halfa-life. Initially the half-ghost was wary, but Dick had a way of warming people up and getting their secrets. In the space of a few weeks, Dick had completely gained Danny’s trust and cooperation in the matter of helping Jason....

A fic outline for an idea I had awhile ago:
I probably wont be writing this though I am considering it, so if anyone else wants to it's fair game just send me the link. If this has been done before then p l e a s e send me the link because I tried to find somthing similar and couldnt.
So internet friends to lovers with danny phantom batman cross over.
I'm using tim because I feel he makes most sense with the trope.
Some timeline things: danny becomes phantom at 15 instead of fourteen. Tim becomes robin at 14, 11 months after jason dies. I want jason to be in the main part of this fic, but the timeline would be messy with that, so here is what I'm going off of: He was dead for six months, resurrected by reality shifting shenanigans, thrown in the pit immidiently after, and then was red hood for a year before the full identity reveal to the batfam.
So danny was a very tech savvy kid with no supervision. As was tim. They meet on some server discussing the home solar system of a popular hero or a heroes published expierience on black holes or somthing like that where their interests intersect. They end up on a specific message board and then a group chat about that topic and later they eventually start talking privately.
Let's say they're 13 at the start with tim a few months older than danny. They grow very close over their shared interests, enjoying the other talk about their personal interests, and commiseration on their parents being neglectful. By the time (insert whatever event happens with his parents that leads to him becoming robin in this au) happens they are very close. They at this point are talking everyday, calling fairly often, and have video chatted. Tim was a bit hesitant talking about his new family but danny couldn't be happier for him.
Jason's reveal and danny becoming phantom line up one after the other (roughly 7 months after tim becomes robin, which is a number I totally didnt have to do physical math for). So tim starts messaging less, and then so does danny with the initial distraction of ghosts and becoming a ghost and a hero and then the existential crisis brought on by the giw and his parents wanting to kill him. By the time things with Jason die down and become more normal six months have past. Tim tries to get back into messaging him consistently after having not messaged at all in a month, but Danny is acting a bit different.
Tim couldn't place exactly why he felt that way and tried to write it off as the result of the time they spent not talking, but he could just feel somthing was wrong. Danny was always easily distracted, but he'd never dropped in and out of conversations like he was doing now, at least not without reasons. And then there was the fact that he was more closed off about his parents than he used to be. Danny eventually mentions giving up on his dream of being an astronaught and his plummeting grades and tim is distraught with the fact that he can't help him.
It was their final video (several months after getting back into messaging) call that solidified Tim's idea of what was happening. It was suggested several times before it actually happened as danny always avoided the idea or came up with an excuse why he couldn't. Tim didnt want to push but he desperately needed more clues and wouldnt cross the line into hacking the information.
Danny was much paler than before and he had deep dark circles under his eyes. The camera was kind of blurry, almost like he had messed with the focus or gotten one that was a lower quality than last time. Overall the call went the same as the ones prior, though danny was a bit jumpy. And then danny shivered violently. He looked scared as he made an excuse about having somthing he forgot to do and hung up.
Tim was feeling lost afterwards. To the point that bruce noticed and asked what was wrong. "I think my best friend is dying."
Danny meanwhile is also having a very not good time. In the nearly year since he became phantom so much had changed. At first it was fine, it seemed fun even. Then it became annoying as he realised school and ghost crime fighting while avoiding capture by your parents didnt mix. And then there was everything with vlad and the giw that made him realize he was screwed if any government entity ever found out his identity. And then the giw worked with his parents and he realized, "oh, haha, my parents could really kill me one of these days."
And then there was clockwork and the ancients and dan. Feeling really off anytime he leaves amity. Plasmius. The fact that he really had died. That even if he managed to fix his grades among all the ghost fighting he'd never pass the physical exam to achieve his dream. That he wasnt considered human anymore by either his parents or the government. The increased number of ghosts coming through the portal.
He hadn't realized how much he really missed tim until they started talking again, but it was hard to leave so much out when they used to share everything. When he finally gave in to the video call he was kind of terrified. Both in the "what if it's different now," and the "what if he notices," way. The first part wasnt needed, the call was great. He forgot how nice his voice was. He could've talked to him for hours, but then his ghost sense was set off. And it was somthing big.
For the first few weeks following the call danny tries. He doesn't want to lose touch with tim, but it becomes too much. Something is wrong and he's the only one who can fix it.
There's a huge issue with the giw still working with his parents for a stronger portal and vlad being vlad and occasionally popping by to shove his entire fist into everyone's pie and then leave again. Danny could believe that was his real obsession. Fisting pies.
Then danny learns that it's not just the portals strength causing everything, its him too. Apparently the ghost king's crown was passed through combat. And the core of the king draws other ectoplasmic entities towards them.
This ends with danny ghosting (haha) tim for several more months until he eventually destroyes both his parents and vlad's portals and all their research. And he couldnt stay in amity at that point, especially since vlad and his parents arent the only ones who know what he did. So he leaves. And with the new title of ghost king he's not core bound to amity anymore.
Danny eventually calls tim. Tim is both relieved and terrified. The call is kind of awkward at first, since they hadn't in awhile. But then danny says he's traveling a bit. "I was thinking of going through Gotham, I heard they have a wicked observatory."
Tim says he cant wait.
*****
That's it on my original fic idea. I wanted to tell it mostly through chatlogs and their calls. I have a lot of other ideas on Danny's time in Gotham though.
I havent gone back over this and theres probably be some small timeline shifting. I want danny to be 17 when he leaves.
But that's all for now.

So this is a new one of these and the other one is probably over so yeah
It's a weird Christmas.
It marks a year since anyone last saw Sonny, a year since Julian's death, and a year full of drama, as one would expect.
Michael and Willow had had another child, a girl this time. Her name was Ophelia and Wiley loved being a big brother to her. The pair had also burned their annulment papers when they'd realized she was pregnant and finally admitted their feelings for each other. Watching them together had probably been the highlight of the year for their family.
Sam had started hooking up with Dante much to the chagrin of, well, everyone. It had started as a few random hookups but changed quickly into an actual relationship, testing several familial bonds.
Luckily, that disaster on wheels had been halted when Lulu had woken up from her coma. Lulu and Dante got back together and fell in love, again.
Sasha and Brando had formed a relationship as well, which was quite a surprise at first glance but made sense after a few weeks.
"Carly? You okay?" Jason asks. Surprisingly enough, she hadn't completely broke down yet, or ran away. The furthest she'd ran was the island and even then, it was only a few hours no one knew where she was, since he couldn't teleport and it took that long to get to the island.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking," she responds, faking a smile.
"Tell that to the tears in your eyes and obviously fake smile," he says to her. "What are you thinking about?"
"It's been a year since any of us have heard from Sonny. For all we know, he's dead. Hell, he probably is. I know I should give up and just agree to a funeral, but it feels wrong to do that without a body," Carly sighs, head in her hands in an effort to hide her tears. "It feels wrong for him to not be here. Last Christmas, we were convinced he'd be home by now and now it's like we've all resigned ourselves to him being dead."
"If it doesn't feel right to have a funeral, don't have one. I've known you for a long time, and your instincts are right a lot of the time. Just because Sonny's not confirmed dead doesn't mean he's not," Jason frowns, putting his arm around her and rubbing circles along her back.
Sonny's "death" meant he had to step up in more ways than one. This had marked the year of Jason running the mob, which he'd practically been doing before but was actually doing now. He'd also had to become sort of a surrogate husband to Carly to the point he practically lives there by now. The kids hadn't questioned it; they'd asked a few times if there was anything going on there but after getting a firm no there hadn't been anything else from them in forms of questioning their relationship status. It was what it was and that was the same friendship they'd always had.
There had been times even Danny had questioned why they were at that house so much, to the point he once asked Carly if they were together or not.
You know it's reaching an odd point when a twelve year old is asking if you're in love with your best friend.
Of course, they didn't take into consideration the fact the whole town thought they were together. Again. Everyone had assumed, based off of how much time they'd been spending together- surprisingly more than normal- and the fact that he'd all but moved into the house that they were together.
That was a fun one to realize when he'd gotten shot and everyone had assured her that her boyfriend would be fine.
It just wasn't happening, they were friends. Anything more could complicate it and complicated almost always meant that there would be fights they couldn't go to each other to uncomplicate.
"I know that, but I just don't want to live knowing that there's a chance he could be alive somewhere and he's been kidnapped or forgotten his name or something. It's like I'm stuck in this neverending circle where there's barely any hope but I can't pretend there's none either. Sometimes, I wish that the police would show up with a body and I would have to confirm that yes, he is dead, just so that I could get out of this loop," Carly sobs. "And then I feel terrible for wishing he was dead because I love him, you know, but then at the same time, I can't help but feel like I need closure."
"That's not a bad thing, to need closure. None of us get any closure when it comes to this, Carly. You're not a bad person for wanting some," he reminds her. "You've been grieving for a year a man you don't even know for sure is dead. It doesn't make you bad to want to have something definite."
"But wanting my husband dead? That's dark," she argues with him.
"You want to know if he's dead or alive, something to confirm what's happened to him. I hate to break it to you but you don't qualify as a terrible person," Jason chuckles. "You've never killed someone, never hurt a kid."
"I shot a dude in open court, I almost killed AJ. I've done a lot of questionable things in my life, Jason," Carly fights back.
She's not wrong, persay, but she's not right. "That stuff doesn't make you a bad person. Morally grey? Yes. Bad? No. You do what you think is best and you're impulsive. If something's not going your way, you'll tip the scales. It's just how you are. None of that makes you a bad person. Some people might not like it, but you've never killed someone or hurt a kid, so in my book you're a good person."
Carly's head comes out of her hands for a minute and he smiles, wiping away the tears. "Well you're not a bad person either. You'd never hurt a kid and you only kill in self defense or if the person's really bad and threatening someone you care about. It's not like you wake up and go kill someone for shits and giggles. You mourn the people you kill and feel bad about it. Only a purely horrible person wouldn't feel bad about their murders."
"Neither of us are bad people, let's just agree on that at least."
"Fine," she relents finally. That only took a year. "I miss Sonny. Especially this time of year. Last year, he read Donna and Avery the Grinch and he had the world's worst Grinch voice. I practically begged him to read another book because of how bad it was. But this year, I wish he would be able to read it to them."
"I miss him too," Jason admits. "It's been a hell of a year without him."
"That it has. So much has changed," she agrees with him, shifting her position on the couch so she's lying her head on his lap.
That's probably why the kids thought they were dating.
He plays with her hair as she laughs, remembering some obscure detail about his telling of the Grinch and decorating for Christmas.
Scratch that, this is definitely why everyone thinks they're together.
"Hey Mom, Jason," Joss greets them, coming in from the kitchen. "I'm going to Trina's. Donna's with Ophelia at the Quartermaine's and Avery's with Ava."
"Alright sweetie, have fun," Carly bids her daughter goodbye, sighing. "Why is she so adult now? I mean, I can remember when she was born and it feels like yesterday. Hell, Michael's birth feels like yesterday. And they're both so grown up."
"Time flies when you're having fun," he answers.
"Where'd you get that? A throw pillow or some advice of my mother's?"
"A card someone sent me back when I was in the hospital. Needless to say, that card got tossed in the trash as soon as you'd let me stand up to go to the trash."
"Who the hell sent that to you of all people?"
"No clue. It didn't have a name attached."
"Huh. Well, it's a terrible expression. Too throw pillow. The real answer would be that we're aging, sadly," Carly sighs again, equally as dramatic. "Granted, I still look like I'm 27, but somehow I've aged."
"Age is but a number."
"You sound like a Hallmark card."
"Rude."
"You do!"
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm aging as well. You're not in this whole getting old thing alone. Provided, of course, that you agree to age," he smirks.
"I don't have anything better to do, sadly, so I suppose I'll agree to getting older. But I refuse to have a gray hair."
"Then go to the salon when you notice one and dye your hair."
"I plan on it," the blonde smiles at him before changing the topic. "Do you think we're weird?"
"That came out of nowhere."
"Answer the question."
"No?"
"That sounded like a question."
"Carly, how am I supposed to answer this one? I don't know, maybe?" Jason says, though most of it comes out as a question.
"Well, I mean, think of it. Sonny's been presumed dead for a year. You've been in charge of the business and been there for all of us in more ways than I can count. Seriously, I think Donna sees you as a father," Carly chuckles. "And you've listened to me crying and losing it. Hell, you spent a month and a half at the island just so I wouldn't be alone."
"Hey, you're family. I was happy to do all of those things. Besides, you wouldn't leave my side when I got shot. Or for a very long month after that," he jokes.
"I know but you didn't have to do that. You didn't have to step up and parent the kids. You already had Danny and Scout and the breakup with Sam to deal with, that's a lot at once. Not to mention, taking over the business and grieving Sonny. And dealing with me. All at the same time," she smiles. "Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful, but you had no obligation to do any of that."
"Carly, do you think I'd be here right now if I didn't want to? You know me better than that. I love you and the kids and want to be there for all of you. So far, I've only gotten shot once and that was unrelated, so I'd consider this a pretty good experience."
The blonde scoffs at him and he chuckles. "Not funny. You could've died."
Rolling his eyes, he reminds her, "I didn't."
"Well you're not allowed to get shot for a long time."
"I'll take getting shot off of my to do list."
"Don't you dare joke about this!"
"Alright. Look at me. I'm not going to die anytime soon. I promise. It takes a lot more than a measly bullet to kill me, after all. Not even Russian madmen could do it," he says seriously.
"Good. Because if you do that to me again, I'll have no choice but to resign myself to a life in either prison or Ferncliff," she says half seriously, getting a laugh out of Jason.
It's not entirely unrealistic she'd end up in one of those positions, especially given that it's already happened. Repeatedly.
Maybe there's a sign she should stop doing dangerous things.
Almost as though she's being told to by something inside her, Carly connects her lips with his.
to be continued
why do i get myself into these things smh

Why do You dislike Scott Snyder? I mean I have my reasons.. like a lot of the Court of Owls stuff, his convoluted plots, making Dick a punching bag for the broody bats, horrible at writing the family as a family he literally wrote Death of the Family I mean....*kill bill sirens* ... Also the ''son of a Damian'' line from Black Mirror etc. But I'm curious if you have more reasons since I'm pretty new and I'm told that he likes Dick and wanted to write Dick focused books and I don't.. buy it.
LOL yeah, all of that for sure, and I mean.....tbh, I don’t pay enough attention to his interviews and stuff to even be aware that he’s said that about liking Dick and wanting to write Dick-centric books, but I’m with you on that....not necessarily meaning anything.
God knows I’ve lost track of how many fic writers in this fandom swear up and down they love Dick Grayson and yet I avoid their stories with extreme energy, lmao, because I’ve read enough of their takes on DG that I’m like hmmm, yeah, we are not the same, lol. I mean, there’s a certain couple fic writers who just are like....DETERMINED to mention Danny Chase every single time I make a post about why I’m annoyed by the focus on Dick’s allegedly infamous temper. And its always the exact same song on repeat, they’re like “OH-HO, so apparently you don’t remember the time Dick choked Danny, a literal CHILD, just because Danny had the nerve to tell him Jason died, cuz like, I do, and it was AWFUL and Danny could have died TOO y’know, that’s how mad Dick was.”
And then I just kinda stare at these words that apparently mean things, and enter a fugue state where an unknown amount of time passes and by the end of it I feel 80 million epochs older, and its like....no, I absolutely do remember that time when Dick grabbed Danny by the shirt and yelled in his face because he just found out his brother died and Danny said “what’s the big deal, its not like it doesn’t happen all the time” and this was absolutely not an awesome and fun scene for anyone, no matter how understandable Dick’s upset was at the time. BUT, I also happen to remember, since y’know, it was in that literal exact same issue, how then Dick went to see Bruce, and due to BRUCE’S upset about Jason’s death, Bruce literally punched his remaining son to the ground, screams about how it was all Dick’s fault, and kicks him out of the house Dick grew up in and tells him to leave his keys with Alfred.
And its like......the very same people who LOVE to throw around references to Danny Chase in order to puff up the claims about Dick Grayson being volatile and extreme and having a Dangerous Temper like, flat out REFUSE to ever even ACKNOWLEDGE that scene with Dick and Bruce, from the literal exact same issue, because they at the same time claim that THIS was bad writing and OOC and Bruce would never.....but apparently, the writing from ten pages before it was just fine and completely accurate and Dick absolutely would not only ever, he would always, and thus Dick’s Legendary Dangerous Temper is canon and its why Dick can’t have nice things or people being nice to him in these writers’ stories, its too Dangerous, he might get mad I guess.
And each time this comes up on this site, I’m always like....hey, science side of tumblr, is it possible that insisting on vilifying Dick for his reaction to someone in the wake of Jason’s death whilst simultaneously refusing to acknowledge the scene of Bruce’s reaction to Dick is canon or in-character despite existing in the exact same issue and written by the exact same writer.....like....could this be one of those double standards I’m always going on about? And isn’t it in fact reasonable to question just how much or how little someone actually means it when they say they love a character but want that character flogged in the middle of the town square for a Bad Reaction to something that also prompted a Bad Reaction from another character but this character, they’ll like, throw themselves in front of a moving train if it keeps someone from daring to even suggest that THEIR reaction was canon and in-character and might potentially say something damning about their temper or behavior with friends or family?
*heaves endless sigh of endlessness*
Sorry, that example was right there on the tip of my brain today because like....I literally just saw another post around this oft-deceased and resurrected and killed to death again dead horse like, five minutes ago and then came to dip into my ask box for the first time today and it was like.....destiny. Assuming destiny has some free time to kill and nothing better to do, which, I mean, hey, everyone’s allowed a hobby is all I’m saying.
LOL sooooooooooo, ANYWHO, its just like.....ugh, I’m so over being expected to take at face value any writers, whether professional or fan, saying “oh but I love this character or that character, and due to that being my preface to everything else I say or do in regards to this character, you have zero basis for claiming that you do not like or trust my depiction of this character because ummm, read much? I literally JUST said, I love them though? Wow. Insert scoffs of incredulity here, I don’t even know how to talk to someone who thinks I don’t like a character I claimed I like just because literally everything else I say or do about them paints an opposing picture to the contrary.”
LMAO. Sorry. Had to get that off my chest. But yeah, like, I think EVERY canon Batfam writer has made a similar claim in recent years about pretty much every Batfam character, and at a certain point it starts to be like....okay, if all of you are telling the truth here, shouldn’t we see more canon evidence of like....these characters that you’re writing, like....actually even LIKING each other? At what point are we allowed to question the legitimacy of you saying oh I totes love this character, that’s why I write their family as abusing them, that’s just love, baby, that’s what it looks like.
Personally, I’d like to see more of us at least using qualifiers? I mean, I do say I don’t hate Tim, or Bruce, or any of these characters, but I get how people could be dubious about that and be all, umm, you rant about them a lot, because like...yeah. Fair. That’s a valid critique. SO its a lot more accurate for me to be like, I love 90s Tim and I just have become increasingly less enchanted with the character over the past twenty years since then, enough so that my knee-jerk reactionism to people bashing Dick’s character BECAUSE of what Dick did or didn’t do to Tim in their eyes, is like.....disinclined to view the situation or his character these days through 90s-Tim rose-colored glasses.
Similarly, I truly don’t hate Bruce, at least not when he’s not being written as physically and emotionally abusive and/or just plain neglectful, BUT I absolutely despise the abuse apologism rampant in most fandoms, but particularly in this one, where people will make like Cirque-de-Soilei contortionists in order to prove that Bruce beating this kid or that kid isn’t actually abuse, its cuz they made him do it....rather than people just being like, no, that’s abuse right there on the page and I don’t stand for it or stan that Batman, so I have zero desire to defend that scene or his actions there from his perspective, and am totally fine with taking a seat when someone speaks up about how much they hate what Bruce did to his kid there in that scene and how it affects their read of the characters as a whole.
Its like....that too, is a thing you can do, instead of just.....trying to explain why Bruce isn’t abusive see, because what happened there wasn’t actually abuse, since it couldn’t have been, because Bruce isn’t abusive, see, he would Never.
And yet so rarely do people actually do that, and we have people literally championing themselves as members of the Good Dad Bruce Protection Squad when the frank reality is there CAN BE NO GUARANTEE of him ever and always being a Good Dad, when like....his characterization, ultimately, is dependent on how he’s written by canon writers who ARE NOT US. Which makes that desire to see him as just a good dad and nothing but a good dad always, like....not quite as understandable as it otherwise might be, and instead just kinda....willful, an admission that a lot of fans in this fandom will just flat out ignore all evidence to the contrary of this stated claim about what Bruce inherently IS, when inherently all he is happens to be a character who manifests whatever those in creative control of him choose to manifest via him. Like.....there are ways to go about that kinda thing, its just....that isn’t it. Something like “Proud member of the Keep Bruce Wayne a Good Dad Squad’ or something along those lines? I’d have ZERO issue with, because that’s ACTIONABLE, not WILLFUL. It posits not that Bruce simply IS this way and there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it, but rather that just because he isn’t this way in some instances, that doesn’t mean we have to agree with it or condone that interpretation of him, y’know?
But people are like....unwilling to make that distinction or hold that nuance a lot of the times, so my dislike of Bruce as he’s written in certain ways or by certain writers like....grows and evolves and mutates into Godzilla rampaging through downtown New York, until its understandable that people reading my blog intermittently and who don’t follow everything I say on the subject are like.....”Bold of you to claim you like lizards in this one post when I have here nine other posts where you’re just like, FEAR the murderous monster-lizard destroying New York for it is Dangerous and Fearsome. Cuz one of these things is not like the others, bud.”
*Shrugs* Anyway, all of that’s just my allergy to Staying on Topic, so make of it what you will, hopefully you get what I mean though even if you don’t have like, the requisite Kalen-Garbled-Nonsense Secret Decoder Ring. Back to Snyder though....yeah, he can claim he likes Dick all he wants, because y’know what, Tynion says the same thing and its been well established by moi that my fondest wish for Tynion is that he be kept far, far away from Dick’s character whenever possible. And I’m pretty sure Tom King claims he loves all these characters and we’re all like HAHAHHAHA and we know Lobdell insists he loves Jason Todd and its like wow how curious then that hardly any other Jason Todd stans love you.
The ironic thing about my random bouts of ugh Snyder in a lot of posts however, is that......tbh, its not even his depiction of Dick that makes me dislike him as much as I do? LMAO. I mean, I’m not a fan of it personally, for a lot of the reasons you mentioned, but I don’t like a lot most canon writers’ depiction of Dick these days and haven’t for years. The thing I really dislike Snyder for, personally, is his depiction of Damian.
Its just.....its very Not Good, a lot of the time. Oh, there are moments here and there, but you could claim that for any writer, really, but for the most part, like.....ooof, I haven’t read Snyder’s work on Damian recently enough to really cite specific moments off the top of my head, because I’ve been avoiding anywhere he’s writing Damian for awhile now BECAUSE of it, but....a LOT of the ‘demon brat’ shit in regards to Damian comes from Snyder’s work, and like, I’m always kinda like “hey is making Demon anything the go-to nickname for a kid of Arab descent who is already compared to a terrorist enough as it is like....really the best we can do” to begin with, and Snyder absolutely 100% does not help with that.
To be fair, its not remotely like its all just on him, the stuff that has had a lot of us complaining for years about the blood son crap and the insistence on acting like there’s this stark divide between Bruce and Damian and the rest of the Bat siblings, I mean, see: Tom King again, its just. Ugh, okay, Im gonna have to get back to this in the near future with actually sourced gripes about why I think Snyder’s Damian in particular is absolute crap and could he just not, though. Because it really is my chief complaint with him, like I was never gonna be a fan of his in general just because he’s someone who's like DARK MULTIVERSE BATMAN FUCK YEAH and I’m someone who’s like DARK MULTIVERSE BATMAN UGH FUCK WHY.....lol....BUT like I mention in other posts.....its not like he’s incapable of doing decent stuff or that he’s never written anything I like, because ironically, he IS the biggest canon backer of Duke Thomas and pretty much single-handedly responsible for Duke retaining as much of a presence as he has in recent years instead of just appearing and blipping out of existence like a one-hit wonder, and that can’t be overlooked or considered inconsequential.
That just also kinda makes it all the more annoying that his Damian is so very.....objectionable to me, but yeah. Anyway, that’s the curious case of my very mixed feelings on Scott Snyder, with a side dish of generalized “lol oh, so you do in fact love this character? Well magically all my criticisms of your take on them have now disappeared!”

Our Last Day (R.I.P)
I get a phone call last Friday night 07/14/17 and it’s your sister, Kiara, telling me that I have an appointment with her is 15 minutes. I look at the time. It’s almost nine o’ clock at night. “An appointment? Where?” I asked. “Here in my house!” She laughed. I had completely forgotten that you guys were celebrating her birthday that night. I mentioned something about Lester not coming home that night. Instead he was coming the next day, so I wasn’t going to be able to make it. Kiara suddenly got serious, “don’t tell me that!” She said in a stern voice, “ we have crabs and ribs set aside just for you guys.” Oh shit! I felt bad about forgetting so I promised her that I would make it there ad soon as the boys fell asleep. My brother and my cousin stayed home with my kids after I put them to bed. I quickly showered and threw on some clothes. I rushed to do my make up and hopped in an Uber. Once I got there I was welcomed by your family. When I walked into the diningroom you yelled, “you made it!” And everyine chimed in and laughed. My friend Jason was there, after all he is your sisters boyfriend. I was quickly introduced to some friends that were there including your girlfriend Maggie. You kept passing me crabs to eat. They were enormous. At one point a nagged you about only giving me crabs with no legs. Everyone laughed and you dug through the pile of crabs to look for one that had the claws still attached. “But none of these crabs have claws!” You said defending yourself. Kiara laughed and explained that Jason’s mom only liked the claws so your dad yanked them all off for her. We all laughed and I apologized for blaming you. Across the table from us there was a girl named Cendy. You decided to have some fun since my name is Cindy. You would yell out one of our names and when we both looked you would address one of us. “CENDY!” you yelled. We both looked in your direction. “Not you, her.” You said to me as you pointed at Cendy. Everyone laughed. I shook my head and muttered a soft “coño” and continued to break my crabs. A few seconds later I hear you ask, Cindy, do you want more crabs?“ I glanced over at you and saw that you were looking at Cendy. She politely started to decline but before she could finish her sentence you interrupted her, “not you, her” you said pointing at me. Everyone laughed. “Danny you’re such an idiot!” Jason said while he laughed. We watched Kiara open her presents and after she opened every gift you yelled, “you made it!” I thought you were such a clown. But you kept everybody laughing. You made plans with Kiara, Jason and some friends to go and watch the boxing match next month in Cendy and her boyfriend Joe’s house. Before we knew it, it was 1 am. You and your girlfriend were the first to go. You said good bye to everyone except for me and Cendy. Then right before you walked out of the door you turned around and yelled, “ BYE CINDIES!” This was Friday night. That Sunday morning I wake up and scroll through Facebook since my kids were still sleeping. R.I.P DANNY. I read……next to a picture of you. What? My eyes must be playing tricks on me. It was written on Kiara’s wall. I read it about five times before calling Kiara’s phone. It rang a few times before someone answered it. “Hello,” a male voice responded. I stayed silent and felt kind of stupid for calling. I thought that you had answered Kiara’s phone for some reason and that maybe I had read the post wrong. I guess the person on the other side of the phone read my thoughts because he quickly said, “it’s me Jason.” I could tell that he had been crying and that he had not slept. There was a brief moment of silence. “Am I reading this right?…..Danny?” I asked. Hoping that I was wrong and that he would have no idea what I was talking about. “Yes,” Jason sniffled. “When? How?” I asked. Still not believing it. “Last night. A motorcycle accident.” How could that be? I thought to myself. “We were just with him….” I whispered. Jason muttered, “yeah, I know. I still can’t believe it.” I asked how Kiara was doing and Jason said she was distraught. He asked if I wanted to speak to her and I said if she’s up for it then yes. He handed the phone over to Kiara. “It’s Cindy,” I heard him tell her. “Hello,” I heard Kiara’s voice. Faint and weak. “Kiara,” I managed to say before we both broke down and cried. “I’m so sorry, this is horrible,” I said in between tears. “Cindy they took a piece of my heart!” Kiara sobbed, “he left me with nothing, he just left me like this with nothing!” The hospital where your body was being kept called her and we had to hang up. I told Jason that I was on my way to Kiara’s house and Lester drove over there with me. When I walked into your mother’s house everyone was there crying. I hugged your mother and she looked like a zombie. She just kept saying that she still doesn’t belive it, she doesn’t understand why this was happening. Her baby boy was gone. I saw your girlfriend and I rushed over to her and hugged her. She broke down and cried on my shoulder. “I’m so sorry sweat heart!” She sobbed and I patted her back. I cupped her face in my hands and asked her how she was holding up. She nodded and wiped her tears. Jason and no I hugged and then he asked me if I wanted to see kiara. I nodded and we all walked out the door. Your girlfriend followed us. I held her as we walked over to your older brothers apartment downstairs. As soon as I walked in, I saw kiara on the phone looking overwhelmed. She had just hung up and looked up to see us walking in. Time sort of stopped and I saw Kiara’s face crumple. I could feel her pain penetrate my heart. I quickly embraced her and she began to sob uncontrollably. “What can I tell you?” I asked her, “what words can I tell you to make the pain go away?” She continued to sob. “My heart hurts,” she weakly stated. Lester came in and swooped her into his arms. “I’m so sorry kiara,” he said as he kissed your cheek. This is when Jason started to explain to me what had happened to you. You and your older brother were riding your motorcycles. You lost control and flew off of yours and got strewn under a car. That car’s muffler hit you in the chest which is what caused your death. You didn’t die instantly. You were alive in your brothers arms for a while. Blood was coming out of your nose, ears and mouth. But you were concious. Your older brother knew that the accident was bad. He held yiur hand and said, “bro, just pray. Tell God to forgive your sins and accept Jesus as your lord and saviour.” He wept over you and continued to tell you to pray and to ask God to welcome you into his kingdom if anything were to happen. You didn’t respond but you looked him in the eyes and squeezed his hand. In the hospital you were put on life support, but after half an hour of no brain activity they pronounced you dead. Your mother didn’t know until she arrived in the hospital that you had passed. She hasn’t been the same. I think she was in shock for three days after you passed. I went to your wake yesterday on Friday night (07/21/17) and the words that people spoke about you were so beautiful. Your father broke down while saying his few words. Your mother and Kiara were unconsolable. At one point your older brother asked your mother to stand up. He turned her around and said, "look mami, all these people are here for Danny. For your son. Look at how many people love him.” We all cried with your mother. I walked over to your casket and saw you laying there. I wept. I wept for the years of life that you didn’t get to live. I wept for your parents whom had to bury their child. No parent should go through that. I wept for the girlfriend that you left behind. I wept for your brothers and sister and family members. I saw your friends and saw how they showed up grieving. Grown men openly crying. Looking down into your casket not believing that their beloved friend is gone. Your pastor had difficulty reading the scriptures and saying saying his piece because because he too broke down and cried a few times. Your oldest brother said that he always asked God not to let him be there should should and accident ever happened with you and your motorcycle, but now he thanks God that he was there because he was able to make sure that you weren’t alone and that you prayed and asked God to forgive your sins. Today, Sunday morning (07/22/17), we laid you to rest. We all placed roses onto the sides of your casket. And threw flowers on top of your casket. Your older brother, kiara and your parents broke down. The wails and grieving cries were almost umbearable. My heart went out to your family. I wondered, could you see us? Could you see how many people loved you? Are you in a better place? I’m sure you are. It will take a long time for your friends and family members to heal but we all understand that God works in mysterious ways. For whatever reason, he needed you home. One day you will be reunited with everyone in the kingdom of heaven. R.I.P Danny Cornejo.
Your death even made it all over the news. Here’s one of the segments about you.
