Okay I’m not vagueing anyone I’m just glad I never say any of my hot takes online and just don’t interact with people
But also I thought when people say they’re not here for fandom drama then they’re not? And people can just have different opinions and not, idk, declare war? Anyways I’m going back to my revising fandom discourse is much less interesting than my major

Thinking about how a couple years ago I was volunteering at the zoo and one of the other volunteers I was working with was an MCR fan and we were talking and I ended up telling her that I didn’t like the original version of Cancer and preferred the Twenty One Pilots cover and the look of pure disappointment she gave me is still burned into my very soul

Pairing: Bruce Wayne x Reader
Rated: M
Read on AO3
Warnings: PiV smut, oral (f receiving), bruce being a mcr fan
Summary: Every day, you learn more and more about your boyfriend. Today, you learn he is quite a musician. 3.5k words
You had an awful day at work, and you were glad to be back at home. To your surprise, instead of silence, you were greeted by the sound of a piano. It sounded like it was being played live. You didn’t even know there was a piano in Wayne Tower. The sound took you into a room you had never been in before. There were several rooms you had never gone in before.
The master bedroom had been untouched since Martha and Thomas’ passing. Martha had a room dedicated to her hobbies. Sewing, knitting, and crocheting, while Thomas had an office he used.
And while you were never explicitly told not to go into them, you’ve never seen anyone go into those rooms, so you took that as a silent rule that they were off-limits. You didn’t mind though, you sympathized with Bruce’s grief. They weren’t just rooms, they were memorials. The sound of the piano led you to one of these rooms, in a desolate hallway away from the room you shared with Bruce. The door was ajar, and you couldn’t help your curiosity. You peeked.
The room was a study, with bookcases lining the walls, going right up to the high ceilings. There was a rich mahogany desk, a small sitting area around a fireplace.
And a grand piano. With your boyfriend sitting on the piano bench, playing almost… passionately.
The song was familiar, but you couldn’t quite place it.
His long fingers move effortlessly across the keys as if he’s played this song a hundred times before.
You open the door more and enter the room, but Bruce is so focused on playing, he doesn’t even notice you.
Usually, he is astute, and you’ve never gotten the drop on Bruce before.
The floors creak beneath you, yet he still doesn’t notice.
Under normal circumstances, it would have been tempting to try and scare Bruce. You knew you’d be able to do it. You were now standing right behind him, and he didn’t notice. But there was something about how he moved and how his fingers glided across the keys. The way he was completely absorbed in playing the emotional song. As the sound of the rich piano filled the air, you realized something.
Your nerd ass boyfriend was playing a piano rendition of Helena by My Chemical Romance. A smile played on your lips. God. You were so in love with him.
It was clear this song meant something to him. You knew that music was deeply personal for Bruce, and this seemed to be no different.
Finally, the song reaches its beautiful end. Bruce’s fingers trail away from the keys, and his head turns slightly towards you, he lets out a breath. You can’t tell if he’s startled by your presence or not.
“Hey,” he greets quietly.
“Hi,” you greeted, approaching his side. He looks back at the piano. You put your hand on his shoulder. “I didn’t know you could play.”
He chuckles and nods slowly, “I play. I play when I’m stressed.” His fingers tap on the top of the piano idly, thumbing a few keys. “You can sit… if you’d like?” He gestures to the empty spot on the piano bench.
Bruce was a fairly large man, but you had no problems invading his personal space. You slid into the spot next to him. Leg against leg, shoulder against shoulder.
“You’re stressed?” You asked, and then internally cringed. You couldn’t believe that just left your mouth. Of course, he’s stressed.
“I am,” he sighs, letting out a breath of frustration. “Someone keeps leaving bombs around Gotham.” He rubs his thumb over the piano key.
Bruce stares at the floor, and then turns to look over at you, his mouth turning up into a small smile, “It’s nice to have you here, though.”
You take one of his hands, and you lace your fingers with his. You brought the back of his hand up to your lips, and you gave his hand a soft kiss.
“I’ll always be here for you,” you said quietly, looking into his eyes. Bruce’s pale face had a bit of color in his cheeks now.
A simple kiss to his hand was enough to leave Veangence himself flustered. You’d never say this to his face, but Bruce was so cute.
“How long have you played the piano?” You asked.
“A while." He tore his eyes from yours, and he looked back at the grand piano the two of you were sitting at. “My mom used to teach me when I was young.” As he speaks, he plays some idle notes on the black and white keys, nothing coherent, just simple notes. "It's helpful for when I'm working through something, you know?"
“Yeah,” you said. Everyone needed a way to work through their emotions. You thought that Bruce’s way was dressing up as a bat and beating up criminals, but it seemed like there were still layers of Bruce to uncover. Perhaps the piano was a way for him to feel close to his mother. Or maybe it was just something to do. "She must have been talented," you commented, unsure of what else to say.
Bruce nodded, “Very.” His voice is soft, but his tone reflects his affection for his parents. He took a breath as he let his fingers rest on the piano again, “You play anything?”
“No.” You responded. “Well. I played cello for a few years in high school but— I wasn’t really good at it,” you chuckled. “Plus they’re an expensive instrument.”
Bruce gave you a smile. “The cello is an interesting choice,” he commented. “What do you like about it?” He was genuinely curious about what his girlfriend was interested in, even if it was just an offhand comment.
“I was enthralled by the deep and melancholic sound of it,” you told him, reaching out and pressing a white key on the piano. It was silent for a few moments, and you remembered an experience as a child. Your father had won tickets to the orchestra, and your mother wasn’t able to take off, so your dad took you. You could remember dressing up in a pretty dress, your father trying his best at styling your hair. You could remember the beautiful music and the pretty musicians. You could remember being in awe of it all.
“Also when I was a kid, my family went to the Gotham Orchestra and the cello player was really cute,” you said as fragments of the memory played in your head. “Had a bit of a schoolgirl crush.”
Bruce laid his head on your shoulder. “You have a thing for musicians?”
“Apparently,” you responded, a smile on your lips.
Bruce chuckled. “That’s good to know.”
Another several moments pass, and Bruce turns to you. Your eyes go from the smooth black-and-white keys of the piano to Bruce’s stunning blue eyes.
“I love you,” he blurted out. He looked surprised that he even said it. You laughed.
“I love you too,” you said, leaning in to press a tender kiss against his lips. Bruce turned his body more towards you, he put his hand against the case of the piano.
Bruce’s lips linger against yours, even after the two of you parted.
The taste of your lips, your smell, every part of you seems to have an effect on him. He feels like he’s floating, like he’s falling down a rabbit hole of feelings and emotions and he can't stop himself. He wants to tell you he loves you again and again.
And so he does.
“I love you,” he said again.
You delicately touch his jaw, gently holding it in your hand, as if he were made of glass.
“I love you more,” you said, a giddy feeling rising up in your chest as if you were a young girl with your first crush.
Bruce smiled at you, an almost boyish smile. “Oh yeah?” He responded, a teasing look in his eyes, which flicked down to look at your lips, then back up to your eyes. “I’m not so sure about that,” He trails off, taking deep breaths as he struggles to focus, his blue eyes watching your lips, wanting them again.
His intensity caused your heartbeat to quicken, hammering hard against your chest. Even after living with him, he still made you nervous in the best way.
“I am,” you respond.
Bruce leaned down, bringing his lips down to yours, firm and eager. His mouth moved onto her like a man in a desert, greedy for any type of moisture, and he wants to devour her.
The world around him faded into nothing, and all he can focus on is you. Your taste on his lips, and the way you sound with his hands on you, the two of them lost in the other. He held you close and only wants to get closer. He only wants to be here in this moment, with you.
His kiss invoked a feeling inside of you, so passionate that it made you want to burst. He tilts your head back, his large hand on your jaw, the tips of his fingers in your hair. Your lips part for him, his tongue slipping into your mouth, stealing away your breath. You’re completely lost in the moment, lost in the way he touched you, the way he kissed you. The way the ends of his hair tickled your face as he kissed you.
You bumped into the keyboard, your arm pressing down on a few keys, pulling you out of the moment, out of the kiss. You broke the kiss off to look at the piano, but Bruce guides your head back to him, back to his lips.
Bruce just can’t get enough of you. His lips move from your lips to your cheek, then your jaw. He leaves a trail of kisses to your neck. Bruce whispers your name with reverence.
“Bruce,” you said, your voice an octave higher than normal. “I—I want to hear another song,” you whispered to him. You wanted to know everything about Bruce. You wanted to know more about this room you’ve never been in; you wanted to know more about his skill in playing piano. Bruce’s kisses pause for a moment before he stands up.
“I’ll play you a song later,” he murmured, effortlessly lifting you up into his arms. “I want you,” he said. You were glad that he was holding you because you were feeling weak in the knees.
“Promise?” You smiled.
“What? About the song?” Bruce asked as he carried you off to your shared bedroom. “Yeah, I promise,” he took in a deep breath of your scent.
Bruce sat on the bed and held you in his lap. You thanked god for those sweatpants that he just loved wearing. You could feel every inch of his hardness against your thigh.
“I haven’t even showered yet,” you warned him, leaning into him.
“I don’t care,” Bruce responded, his voice huskier than normal. His hands trailed down to hold your hips.
You take his bottom lip between your teeth, giving it a playful nip before pulling back.
Bruce looks completely enthralled by you.
He is.
Bruce maneuvers you into a lying down position on the bed. “Close your eyes,” he told you.
You raised an eyebrow but did as he said, closing your eyes.
It was quiet for several agonizing moments, before you felt Bruce’s hands on your body, gently removing your clothes. You moved around, helping him in removing your clothes. You wanted to open your eyes, to see him, with his kiss-swollen lips and his eyes dark with lust, but you resisted.
Bruce removed everything but your underwear.
“Can I—” you began.
“No,” Bruce responded, his hands on your legs, moving them around and spreading them apart, so he could slide between them. You felt the weight of him settle between your legs, his hands on either side of your shoulders. He dipped down and started a trail of kisses from your neck, down to your collarbone. His tongue darted out to lick around your collarbone. He took a moment to suck at the sensitive skin there, no doubt leaving a hickey. You laughed, your hands going into his hair.
“I’ll pay you back tenfold,” you warned him. You could feel him smile against your skin.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he rasped out.
Bruce continued his worship of your body, taking one of your nipples into his mouth, his tongue twirling around the bud while his other hand plucked at your other breast. His hips lightly ground into yours, seeking out some sort of reprieve from the aching between his legs. Your hands go into his hair, tangling your fingers in his messy dark locks. You let out a soft sigh as his mouth began to pay attention to your other nipple. Your body felt several degrees hotter, and it only increased as Bruce began to kiss down further. Down your abdomen, and finally, his face was level with your cunt. He guided your legs to rest on his bare shoulders.
“All this for me?” He asked, using his index finger to rub the wet spot in your underwear. Your breath hitched, and your pussy clenched. Heat coiled in your abdomen at what was to come.
“All yours,” you said, finally opening your eyes.
Bruce kissed your thigh and then kissed your clothed pussy. He happily pressed his nose against the wet spot, breathing your scent in. Bruce always thought that the smell of your needy cunt was the best scent he had ever experienced. Helooked almost pensive for a moment, before easily ripping your underwear.
“Bruce!” You gasped.
“I’ll buy you more,” he whispered, sliding a finger into your aching folds. “I’ll buy you anything you want,” he said with a happy sigh. He tossed aside the torn underwear.
“I can’t believe you did that,” you breathed out, tugging on his hair.
“You’re complaining?” He rubbed at your clit with his thumb.
“No,” you responded, tugging more on his hair. “It was hot.”
“I’ll have to remember that,” he murmured.
A laugh bubbled up from your chest. “That’s not an invitation to— oh fuck.”
His tongue began to lap at your folds, effectively ending your train of thought. Bruce knew how to play your body like it was an instrument. After nearly two years, Bruce had figured out where to lick, where to rub or pinch to make you squirm and moan. An upside to dating a detective, you suppose.
His fingers parted your lips, and you could feel his index finger twitching inside of you. He slid another digit in. You bit down a moan. Bruce pulled back. “Alfred isn’t home,” he purred. He kissed your thigh again. “Be loud,” he nearly begged. “I want to hear you scream my name.”
“Gotta earn it, big boy,” you breathed.
You heard him chuckle against your thigh, before diving back in, teasing your clit with the tip of his tongue.
It was a challenge, and oh did Bruce love a good challenge.
Bruce slowly thrust his fingers in and out of you, setting an agonizing pace. You felt fuzzy as he angled his fingers just right to hit the spot inside of you that made you sing. You felt like a string, being pulled so tight, you were about to snap.
“Bruce,” you groaned. “Bruce, Bruce, Bruce.” You chanted. Bruce ate pussy like it was the last time he’d ever be able to taste you. Desperate to savor you. And it was very possible that it could be. Bruce had his eyes closed, as if he was experiencing euphoria just from your taste, your moans. Your body twitched and jerked, and Bruce used his strong arm to hold down your hips as he sucked on your clit. He moaned against your sensitive folds. You rolled your hips, eager to find your release.
Finally, you found release, your back arching off of the bed as shockwaves of pleasure ripped through you. You sobbed out his name, your body arching off of the bed as you felt your orgasm hit you. Bruce continued teasing your clit as you rode the shockwaves of pleasure.
And you finally relaxed, the tension leaving your body, something that Bruce noticed.
“You must have really needed that,” he mused, removing his fingers and crawling up your body to kiss you, his lips still wet with your slick.
Your breaths were ragged, and you wrapped your arms around his neck. He looked like the cat that caught the canary.
“You look impressed with yourself,” you breathed out.
“I am,” he said, adjusting himself so he could easily remove his pants. “I should have timed that. Couldn’t have been longer than three minutes.” He sounded so pleased with himself, it caused a laugh to bubble up from your chest.
“Thank you,” you said, watching his cock spring out of his pants. The tip was an angry red, wet with precum.
“For?”
“The orgasm. I really did need it.”
“I plan on giving you another. I still haven’t heard you screaming my name.”
You sat up, and reached down, taking his length into your hand. He let out a shaky breath.
“All this for me?” You asked, a smirk tugging on the corners of your lips. You spread the precum around the tip using your thumb, not taking your eyes off his face.
“All yours,” Bruce responded, reaching over to the bedside table, and grabbing a condom. “I need to be inside of you, right now,” Bruce said, moving your hands. He ripped into the aluminum foil of the condom and slid it onto his length. You opened your legs wider for him.
“Then what are you waiting for?” You asked, your hands on his shoulders as he leaned over you.
Bruce growled, leaning down to kiss you as he slowly entered you. He let out a series of little gasps and growls as he bottomed out. “So wet,” he breathed out. “So wet, all for me,” he said right in your ear, his warm breath fanning over your ear and neck. His hair fell in his face. “I don’t know if I’ll last long,” he admitted as he began to move.
“That’s okay,” you whined. “I just wanna watch you come,” you said, brushing his hair out of his face.
It was almost too much for Bruce. The way your slick, velvety walls fluttered around him with each thrust was already sending Bruce to the edge, but he was holding back. He wanted to enjoy this, and not blow his load immediately.
You could swear that Bruce was made for you. He slotted so perfectly between his legs. His cock was the perfect size
Your chest was pressing up against his. Bruce’s lips just barely brushed against yours with each movement of his hips. Your hands found their way back to his hair, tangling your fingers in his dark hair, holding him close to you. The wet noises echoed through the room, only barely drowned out by Bruce’s soft whimpers. You could feel his heart through his chest, beating wildly, only for you. He dips down, licking a stripe down your chest, he enjoyed the salty taste of your sweat. His movement was languid, each snap of his hips was made with purpose.
“Bruce,” you whined, lifting up your hips. “Faster,” you begged. Bruce leaned down and quieted you with a kiss. He didn’t listen to you, still lazily fucking you. He propped himself above you, his chest brushing against yours, while his free hand reached down to rub at your swollen nub. You watched as Bruce’s eyes slipped close in pleasure. You were charmed as you watched him. His lips slightly parted, breathing in your air. Each movement of his hips pulled a noise out of Bruce. He growled your name, causing you to clench around him. You noticed that Bruce’s thrusts were getting sloppier.
“Please—” he begged. “I need you to come again,” he choked out. "Need to feel you— fuck.”
“I’m close,” you panted out. “Don’t stop.”
He didn’t stop. He kept up his sloppy but steady pace his heart hammering in his chest.
“Bruce!” You keened as your toes curled and your back arched into him. Your body was tingling as your orgasm swept through you. Bruce let out a whine, and he soon followed. His body jerked, and you could feel him twitching inside of you as he came. He laid his head on your shoulder as he caught his breath.
“I love you,” he whispered breathily.
“I love you more,” you said with a grin. He smiled in response. Bruce took in a breath as he pulled out of you, and disposed of the condom in the nearby bin.
“I’ll let you win this one. You know. Because I love you,” he said as he laid back down, pulling your sweaty bodies together.
You let out a thoughtful hum as you relaxed into him.
“What are your plans for the rest of the evening?” Bruce asked his lips against your cheek.
“Spending time with my boyfriend, hopefully.”
“What a coincidence,” Bruce murmured. “Because I was hoping to spend more time with my girlfriend.”
Even with the blackout curtains, you could still see his bright eyes. You felt bubbly in your chest, and you smiled brightly at him.
Bruce’s breath hitched as he gazed at your bright smile.
This, he decided, was certainly worth living for.

as the u.s. tour comes to a close, i want to take a moment to talk about a phenomenon i’ve seen taking place within mcr internet fan spaces these last few months, my thoughts on it, and how i think it relates back to digital media literacy.
(before we start, i want to make it clear that i’m just some guy and i am definitely not the most qualified person to talk about this, but i think some of the things in this post really, really need to be said. my hope is not necessarily to change your mind or to “get you on my side,” but to encourage you to think critically and independently, even during your daily scroll on social media.)
————
so, what is this ominous phenomenon i’m talking about? i’m referring to some of the comments i’ve seen mcr fans make regarding gerard’s gender—specifically the public, speculative, and seemingly unironic ones that attempt to put a label or a semblance of a label on his gender nonconformity.
(i think now’s a good time to mention you should read this entire post before engaging with or commenting on it. stay with me. we’re in this together.)
here is a post that i think does a good job of explaining this a little more in-depth for anyone who’s out of the loop.
regardless of my personal opinions on all of this, i understand why it’s happening. much of mcr’s fanbase is trans and/or non-binary, and seeking out representation from familiar, comforting figures is not out of the ordinary. i don’t think anyone involved means harm, and this isn’t a callout post. i’m just adding to a discussion i think has been largely one-sided up until recently.
————
what is the point of me making this post? to put it bluntly, i disagree with how much of the discussion around gerard’s gender identity and expression is being conducted.
(again, please stay with me.)
what is it, specifically, that i disagree with? is it the celebration of gerard’s gender nonconformity? is it the possibility they might not identify, partially or wholly, with their gender assigned at birth? is it the joy their gender expression has inspired in many mcr fans?
no. it’s none of those things; not even close. i can’t even put into words how i, a gender nonconforming trans man, felt when gerard wore his cheerleader dress in nashville. it was a special moment and i was so happy to see him happy.
but something that bothers me about the “gender wars” narrative is the idea that anyone who’s not all-in is, if not an outright transphobe, someone with deep-rooted biases they need to work through. i haven’t seen this from everyone, but it’s floated around here and there.
nuance in conversations like this is incredibly important. the human experience is rarely black and white. and i believe the notion that it must be, especially when it comes to topics such as queer identity, largely stems from closed-mindedness and fear, conscious or unconscious.
i have certainly witnessed people online assert that gerard must be cis, and there’s no way he can’t be cis, implying if he ever identified as anything other than cis that would be bad and gross and weird. i strongly disagree with that viewpoint because it’s transphobic and gerard is a real person who none of us know personally who can do whatever the fuck he wants. in the same way, i disagree with the viewpoint that gerard must be trans, and there’s no way he can’t be trans, implying anyone who disagrees is a transphobe who refuses to pay attention. because gerard is a real person who none of us know personally who can do whatever the fuck he wants.
i’m aware gerard has also made comments in the past about his journey with gender identity, the connection he feels to women and femininity, and even his experimentation with drag while he was in college. he’s said he should be referred to with either he/him or they/them pronouns, he’s an earnest supporter of the trans community, and he’s historically rejected the sexist shithead rock-dude stereotype.
i’m not here to downplay any of those things, nor am i trying to invalidate anyone who has taken comfort in or identified with those things. just a couple of points i would like you to think about, though:
some cis people also question their gender identity and/or use multiple sets of pronouns for a multitude of reasons (i’m not saying gerard has to be cis, i’m just giving you an extra viewpoint to chew on);
i’ve personally met plenty of men or male-aligned people who strongly identify with women and femininity. i strongly identify with women and femininity and i’m still 100% a trans man and will throw anyone who tries to tell me otherwise directly into the sun (again, i’m not saying gerard must be a man or male-aligned);
gender nonconformity and transness are complex, nuanced topics. labels can be useful, but they are not a be-all-end-all;
and i’m going to be blunt here—assuming and/or declaring someone is transfem when they haven’t publicly referred to themselves as such, just because they are comfortable discussing their own femininity and sometimes have a feminine presentation and feminine mannerisms, is basically an upgraded form of gender essentialism and completely disregards the existence and experiences of amab cis-passing queer people and gender nonconforming people. i understand it’s a tough pill to swallow, but intent doesn’t always equal impact, and just because someone may not see it that way doesn’t mean that’s not what they’re doing.
even if gerard is transfem, he’s still a real person who has a right to privacy and autonomy, and he never has to publicly label himself if he doesn’t want to. no one is entitled to seek out the details of his identity, but least of all us, a bunch of strangers on the internet who will probably never have a full conversation with him.
not one of us is an “authority” or “expert” on gerard way or my chemical romance. we can learn about the band’s history and public personas or laugh at the funny, quirky parts of their lore or cry when we think about how far they’ve come in the public eye, but what gives us the right to dig into every tiny crevice of gerard’s work and interactions and public existence searching for “clues” as to whether or not he’s trans? what gives us the right to label his gender identity for him—a process that is incredibly personal? i know “parasocial” is basically just another hollow internet buzzword at this point, but let’s not forget the very real consequences that parasocial relationships can certainly have.
do i think it would be fucking awesome if gerard came out as trans tomorrow? absolutely. do i also think it’s fucking awesome that they’re an older gnc person? that so many queer people have discovered and accepted themselves in part because of them? that they now exude joy onstage and bravely dress and act the way they do? one million times yes. and we can celebrate those real, concrete, factual things without tinhatting, overstepping boundaries, or jumping to conclusions. if they were to come out as trans tomorrow, that wouldn’t invalidate any of my arguments or make the behavior i’m critiquing acceptable, because the point isn’t about whether or not gerard is trans, the point is about how some of mcr’s fanbase is treating them.
gerard has uplifted and respected us time and time again without even knowing us as individuals. so i want you to take a moment to sincerely reflect and ask yourself this question: where is our respect for him?
————
alright. i’m glad you’re still here. let’s talk about what can actually be done about this.
i think a lot of this problem boils down to a lack of critical thinking. yes, that’s thrown around a lot as a clapback on this website, but i don’t mean it as an insult. we’re all guilty of not thinking critically, myself included. especially in the age of the internet, it’s impossible to be perfect all the time, when we’re bombarded with information from every angle.
this is why learning about and consistently practicing media literacy is so important. it’s something i’m passionate about because i’ve seen firsthand, time and time again, how it can make or break a person and their worldview, to the point that i spent hours writing about it for my upper-level journalism courses (before i dropped out lol) and worked for two semesters as an editor for a college newspaper.
if these conversations about gerard were happening in private group chats between friends who already know one another, my opinions on the topic itself would still stand, but it wouldn’t be any of my business and i obviously wouldn’t think to write an entire post about it. but everything changes when these discussions are had on a public platform with little regard for nuance.
“misinformation,” or the unintentional spread of false information—not to be confused with disinformation, where the person spreading it knows what they’re saying isn’t true—might not be a totally accurate descriptor for some of what’s going on here, honestly. none of us can prove what gerard is thinking or feeling. but based on what we do know, what he’s publicly and concretely shared with us, i think it’s as close as we can get. a lot of the posts i’ve seen don’t read to me as “hehe funny celebrity headcanon that’s obviously just for fun.” or even “i relate to this person’s art and/or publicized experiences, but i understand i don’t know them and at least some of that is just projection.” rather, they seem to make invasive leaps and use inaccurate vocabulary while simultaneously taking themselves very, very seriously, and that concerns me more than if a random tumblr user was just trolling to start fandom drama or something.
to put things into perspective, this is why every single one of my journalism professors drilled it into my head that you have to get your news from multiple sources. those sources must have differing perspectives and you need to look at every single one with a critical eye, no matter how trustworthy they may seem (listen, i get it’s way more complicated than that and i could go off on a whole other tangent about the glaring problems with mainstream news media in the united states and not in a cringefail right-wing way, but this is an mcr blog, so let’s just focus on the basic principle here).
obviously, i don’t think anyone should engage with transphobes unless it’s for the sake of making stronger counter-arguments, because their beliefs are provably harmful and false. but someone making good-faith criticisms of speculating about a stranger who has not publicly come out as trans and/or non-binary is markedly different. i’m not the only person who’s written something like this, and i encourage everyone to seek out similar posts and think about the points they’re making, even if you don’t agree with every single one of them.
this speculative commentary on gerard’s identity has spread like wildfire and created a polarizing echo chamber, from what i’ve seen. i understand why. but it’s still deeply worrying to me. seeing as this is primarily happening on tumblr, i’m concerned less because i think gerard will ever see or care about these posts (that’s obviously still important, though), and more because of what this says about how people in mcr fanspaces view celebrities they feel strongly about and engage with information they see online at large.
please do research on digital media literacy, and please use reputable sources with authority on journalism and communications to do so. don’t take what you see on social media at face value. don’t trust any one social media user to feed you commentary or shape your viewpoints, and that includes me. read with a critical eye. think about the possible implications and intentions behind the words other people use, big or small, and why those might be there. be aware of your own biases and blindspots. remember that you’ll never be perfect, not even close. and while you’re at it, learn more about the experiences of gnc people, and the experiences of queer people of all different ages, backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, perspectives, lived experiences, etcetera. if you can, engage in diverse irl lgbtq+ spaces. they put things into perspective in a way the internet never will.
but i still use tumblr in 2022, so what do i know?
————
if there’s anything you think i overlooked or misconstrued in this post, tell me! i want this to be a living, breathing conversation, not a monologue. these are important issues and they deserve our time and attention. thank you so much for reading.

i’m not even mad this is just funny…weirdo babies who can’t expand their minds enough to realize it’s all about mcr forever and ever or more realistically just you know….accept that different people enjoy different music than they do…also i feel like i didn’t realize how much people still hate them with no real reason these people are fr stuck in high school thinking it’s cool to hate mcr and their fans because the people they saw as weird in high school were wearing their t shirts….i hope they cry themselves to sleep when they find out how successful their reunion tour was after 7 years being broken up hehe

this is kind of off topic so i hope you don't mind the ramble i'm just passionate about this stuff. i for sure agree with you - it's even gone full circle if you look at the evolution of trap and internet rap and playboi carti's whole deal rn if youre familiar with it at all. him and his record label have taken heavy inspiration from early britsh punk rock and post punk acts + even nu metal in music, style, and even in their live shows; nowadays you won't see a single rap show without moshing. their fans are all doing liberty spikes and dressing in all black and styling themselves in tripp pants. again this is straying off topic, but i just find it kinda fascinating
Noo I think it’s on topic and I definitely agree with you. I’m not gonna say I’m the most knowledgeable on this stuff but I have seen people talk about the more goth roots of a lot of rappers today. I think that’s a mix of the fact that the two genres of rock and rap aren’t as different as you’d expect and the younger generation being brought up in a more culturally diverse climate when it comes to the arts.
There’s also a reason why Gerard said in mid 2000s interviews that the best reception within the industry largely came from rappers and hiphop artists lol. Jay-z referencing mcr in a song. A bunch of these rappers revealing they’re mcr fans online. These scenes have always been interconnected and I think a large part of that comes from song writing style.

The Mystery of DD
Since a lot of newer fans weren’t around to experience the mystery of the DD era as it was unfolding, I wanted to try to describe it so people can understand what it was like to be an MCR fan in 2010.
A Bizarre Mystery
It all began on September 4th, 2010, when MCR’s website suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a mysterious transmitter. No one had any idea this was coming, and no explanation was offered. You could click the dials to see different screens (test patterns, a nuclear fallout symbol, etc.), and hear distorted sounds. At one point, fans believed that they could hear an unreleased MCR song on one of the stations, buried under static and distortion. Later on, the transmitter started playing mysterious videos that hinted at a post-apocalyptic universe.
Not long after the transmitter appeared, the DrDeathDefying Twitter account was discovered after he tweeted a fan. NewsAGoGo and AgentCherriCola were discovered soon after, with the rest of the accounts coming later. The accounts posted a bizarre mixture of strange pictures, futuristic slang, references to apocalyptic events, fan interactions, and eerie ramblings. You could determine a loose background and storyline from the Twitter accounts, but they were so vague that no one was quite sure what was going on. All we knew was that the characters seemed to be part of a nightmarish, post-apocalyptic universe that took place in the near future. But we had no idea how this related to MCR, or why they’d gone in this direction for their next album.
The Return of MCR.com
The website did return on September 8th, with a new photo and blog post from Frank. But the blog post offered no explanation, and the speculation was far from over. The transmitter was still accessible on a separate page on MCR’s website. As the Twitter accounts continued to post their bizarre ramblings, people made connections to everything from movies to past MCR eras to the supposed “2012 Mayan Apocalypse.” At that point, their next album could have been about anything.
Looking back at Danger Days now, it’s pretty clear what was going on. But at the time, we had no idea where this era was heading. Keep in mind that our only sources of information were the Twitter accounts and the transmitter–no comics, no music videos, no interviews. The era could have been about anything. For this reason, fans scrutinized every scrap of information–pictures, tweets, transmissions–down to the smallest detail.
A World of Theories
The blog girlautomatic is a great place to read the old theories. Here’s an example from one of her posts:
Here’s my new theory:
Dr. Death Defying is part of a group called the Philly Jackals, likely a gang that either travels around on motorcycles or cars or both. Whether the group actually comes out of Philadelphia, assuming Philadelphia (or even the other states) still even exists as we know them to exist, is debatable.
The name Dr. Death Defying is an alias s/he either adopted or was given upon joining up with the Philly Jackals.
Slaughtermatic Sounds is both their logo and their motto.
The car in the picture Frank posted and the raygun Dr. Death Defying tweeted a picture of belong to him/her.
Which could possibly mean that the Lady referred to in this tweet is said car. It also probably means that last night’s tweet about being low on batteries is also about his car, but that might be a bit of a stretch. Also? I’m not sure I’d want to get on the Doctor’s bad side, if this is all correct. Motor gangs are serious business. It at least casts this tweet in a different light, though, and really makes me wonder if this tweet about nitro is referring to the dangers of drag racing, and if this tweet is about traveling on the open road.
This might look strange to fans today, but at the time, no scrap of information was insignificant. Whole blog posts were written about one or two tweets. People studied the blank transmitter screen, trying to see vague shadows or reflections in the image. They traced pictures posted on Twitter to their original sources, then studied the sources. To fans, it was basically a giant puzzle–but we had no idea where it was heading, or if there were even a solution to find.
People also tried to figure out who ran these Twitter accounts. We know now that Shaun Simon ran most of them, with Gerard Way and Jon Rivera handling DrDeathDefying. But at the time, several fans (including me) just kind of assumed that the members of MCR ran the accounts. A popular theory was that Gerard ran DrDeathDefying and Frank ran NewsAGoGo (a few tweets shared Frank’s typing style.) However, some people did suspect that Shaun Simon was involved, as the characters tended to tweet about things that he mentioned on his personal Twitter.
The End of an Era
Eventually the “Art Is The Weapon“ video was released, and the interviews and music videos that followed cleared up a lot of the mystery. But the characters continued to tweet, some of them posting well into 2013. We’re now familiar with the Danger Days universe, but the hint of mystery and intrigue still lingers. Many questions were never answered, while some concepts and ideas were scrapped altogether. Even if we get more content in the future, parts of DD will always remain a mystery to us–and I think that’s one reason that it continues to capture people’s imaginations.
An interesting note–thinking back on the transmitter and the Twitter accounts, it felt like we’d analyzed these pieces of information for months. But while I was researching this blog post, I realized that MCR’s website returned after only four days, and "Art Is The Weapon” was released only a few weeks later. I guess the analysis and scrutiny was so in-depth that it seemed to last much longer!

i'm begging, please write a fic about cheerleader dress gerard
Okay, here’s a quick 418-word drabble. 🤷‍♀️
“Babe?” Gerard called to you, from the hotel bathroom. “Did you pack your shaving cream, by chance?”
“My shaving cream?” you repeated, confused, glancing up from the comic book you were reading. You and your boyfriend had just checked in to your hotel room in Nashville. You’d flopped down onto the bed almost immediately. You felt lucky ,that you were able to get time off of work, to follow him on the first leg of the US tour. But, truthfully, you’d always found travel exhausting.
“I, um,” Gerard mumbled, his voice muffled by the bathroom door, “I want to shave my legs before we head over to soundcheck.”
“Your legs? Why?” you wondered, still perplexed. He normally kept them hairy - not that you minded.
“It’s because…well, I guess I’ll just show you,” Gerard decided. He stepped out of the bathroom, into the room where you’d be sleeping tonight.
Your jaw dropped, when you saw that he was wearing a green and white cheerleader dress. For a moment, you were speechless.
“It looks strange, doesn’t it?” Gerard frowned, staring down at the floor, as he wound a strand of hair around his fingertips. “What was I thinking? I shouldn’t wear this in public…”
“No!” you shook your head, words returning to you. “It’s not strange at all, Gee! It looks cute on you!”
“R-Really?” Gerard asked, now daring to look you in the eye. His cheeks were bright red.
“When did you pack this?” you wondered. You had no idea he even owned a dress like this.
“When you weren’t looking, of course,” Gerard grinned shyly. “I, uh, bought it from a costume shop, right before we left LA. I was just thinking. We’ve had cheerleaders in a couple MCR videos, right? ‘Teenagers’, and ‘I’m Not Okay’, and ‘Blood’, and…”
“And you had that iconic photoshoot, back in Revenge era, with the bloody undead cheerleaders!”, you recalled, laughing.
“Yes, exactly,” Gerard grinned. “I did the clown costume last time. I figured this time I’d try something different, that the fans haven’t seen before.”
“I actually really like it,” you confessed, your eyes flicking down, to the hemline of the short green skirt. “It shows off those muscular legs of yours…”
“In that case,” Gerard winked, “can I tell you a secret?”
He walked closer, so that he was standing beside the bed. Seeing his bare thighs up close, made your heart start racing.
“The truth is,” Gerard smirked, moving to climb into bed, “I’m not wearing any underwear.”

adjusting to a fandom with a whole different world of shipping is amazing, but a very big shift.
the only fandoms i’ve really been into as heavily as smosh have been mcr (emo trinity, but mainly mcr) and dnp. those two have their primary, obvious ships with years and years of headcanons, fics, art, you name it.
with smosh, yes ianthony has a wide range of content to peruse, it’s been a ship for a very long time and it’s almost too much to keep up with, (i’m trying to keep up) but it’s new for me to have so many ships to feel for (which is not bad, just new). ik the newest pit theater will most likely have ianthony, shaymien, spommy and maybe amangela…but what about all of the little rarepair niche ships i’ve seen on this site, i wonder if they know??? like it makes sense, and i have absolutely no judgement towards rarepair shippers, but it’s new for me.
shamanda, antmien, shaynse, spourtney, damangela, shrevor, shian, shanthony, chanthony, courtgela, kimney, then whatever the names are for courtney/arasha, amanda/ian, and sooo many more. this is crazy and i love it. you guys make content so fast and no one is safe /pos
but also, even though my main smosh ship is shaymien, which is not /technically/ a rarepair, comparing that ship to phan is CRAZY and i feel so spoiled. (for context: shaymien has 467 works on ao3, phan has almost eighteen thousand ?!?)
my phannie ass starting to ship shaymien is like. wait. what do you mean there’s barely any chaptered fics out there, let alone many, many chapters worth (i mean like 25 or more) what do you mean there’s not an au for every career or trope under the sun. what do you mean there’s not a fic for every kink in the world. what do you mean there’s not a fic for every video, instagram post, tiktok or tweet. what do you mean there’s no The Fic for this pairing, whether it’s actually good or not but it’s so well known the person/people the characters are based off of somehow Know (ex. milk fic for panic/smosh. heart rate of a mouse for panic. skin fic for phan but also like the well known, actually good fan favorites like a match and a fuse, l’histoire française, bluebird, etc. a splitting of the mind for mcr) what do you mean there’s no ‘how did we end up with a baby’, no song fics for every song loosely connected to this pairing, no gender swap au, and SO MANY MORE. THIS IS WILD.

i, a lesbian who has never listened to my chemical romance besides maybe like two singles, have decided i am going to rank the members of mcr based on attractiveness. this is very much based off of google searches of their names so if you want to try to change my mind, my ask box accepts pictures. i have been bedridden for a week and this is how i am finding entertainment. let’s go.
LAST PLACE: mikey way
Tumblr media Tumblr media
literally please don’t ask questions. i don’t think he could move up if he tried. i can maybe see the appeal of his younger self a little bit because i’m kinda getting gender envy but him NOW? …
THIRD PLACE: gerard way
Tumblr media Tumblr media
again, i can see his younger self’s appeal. i think i would’ve called him hot if i got into them as a teen. i do not think they have anything going rn
SECOND PLACE (RUNNER UP): frank iero
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I GET IT. OKAY. THERE I SAID IT.
FIRST PLACE (WINNER): ray toro
Tumblr media Tumblr media

I remember that one time I went on Omegle and there was a dude who was an MCR fan
And so he asked me if I knew MCR due to the fact I was wearing an MCR t shirt and I said yes
And after that he said do you know what ferard is
And I not understanding or hearing what he said I said no even tho I do know what ferard is
And he went nuts he told me that I’m no fit to wear an MCR t shirt and that I need to take it off
And that I’m a fake fan for not knowing what ferard is even tho I do know what that is I just didn’t hear what he said nor understand what he said
Just continuously cursing me out somewhat taunting me in a way to the point I was under a lot of distress and anxiety mode because of him I started crying, and so til this day this traumatic experience has sometimes pop up in my mind and it’s just really still til this day hurts my feelings I’ve never looked MCR the same way again after that

this person is literally a fucking maniac I’m so sorry they did that shit to you??? It’s headcanons and you didn’t even mention anything remotely offensive or required whatever shit they were spitting. Fucking SUICIDE BAITING OVER WHAT?? Dios mío. (to get your mind off it if you would like, share with me your favourite punk percy headcanons)
RIGHT LIKE THAT NIGGA REALLY SHOWED ME NOOSE PICS OVER FUCKING PERCY JACKSON💀And said i was 'fetishizing' trans people as if i'm not trans myself and as if she's not a cis woman and probably straight too.Stop projecting come mierda♡
But tysm,i will and you choose a good time to ask because i've been finally continouing my punk history research!!
Always had the punk mindset as seen in canon since she's anti-authority,rebels against all corruption she sees and protects and is extremely loving towards younger minorities
But was too poor to afford the clothes and piercings and such.Didn't bother him though since he cared more about acting punk than looking it
Thalia was his first real experience with the subculture headon and that's why he admired and was lowkey jealous of her along with a bit of gender envy
Goes to protests and does charity work with Rachel
And she bought him a bunch of punk stuff(from punk bussiness ofc, otherwise what's the point)
Learned to diy so many things it's gonna be a running in my fics of her
Rrrrt girl and Mcr fan-Also not punk but loves Ice Spice and Megan Thee Stallion too ofc.Really likes Green Day too!!
The specific types of punk Percy is are afropunk(because i hc them as half afro-dominican and half black-greek),seapunk(NOT because of Poseidon but because of Sally)and either crustpunk or pastel punk depending on wether we're talking her as transfem bigender and a mix of masc and fem or her as a super femme trans woman. Not for gender roles reasons because that would be ridiculous but i think just that their lives would be significantly different so that leads to a few differences in their tastes
Persephone Amelia has comics!Starfire hair,Perseo Isadore has dreads
Straight edge
His autism definitely contributes to how he approches punkness
Their patches jacket has spikes and frills around the collar and the patches are the dominican and trans flags and a black mermaid to represent Sally,a skull and a yellow diamond to represent Nico and Hazel and he has a god handful of pins but his favorites are the Riptide one Lex made him and the cat one(Yes i'm including my Pjo self-insert in this because i couldn't help myself)
Goes on estrogen but only a light dosage and for a short time compared to full transitions and gets no surgeries.Wears makeup too and gets a tongue ring,an eyebrow piercing and forward helix on both ears
Radicalized Nico and Hazel, who are now goth punk and pastel goth punk
Exclusively buys video games and consoles secondhand because of being anti-capitalism
Killed Luke in TLO not only because of being the hero of the prophecy but also because no actual punk wouldn't unalive a fascist who's also a serial ped0phile the second they got the chance. He made sure it was extra painful too and even had Nico use his soul erasing power we saw in BOO on him
And eventually manages to kill Poseidon too-Idk about Perseo but Persephone exists in my Pjo x DC x Spiderverse crossover where she's got kryptonian heritage and i headcanon krytonians are on the same levels of gods in regards to power so that's how.Zeus is too scared of Percy afterwards to stop her from fixing the greek myths world system LMFAOOOOOO
And for a lil more Perlex because i am down horrendous, him and Lex punk4punk but Lex is pastel punk and solarpunk!!They go on punk themed dates like going to concerts in matching outfits and defacing public property together <3 Also Percy has the cocky flirt punk guy thing you usually see in male characters who are but it's a Lex exclusive

Hi! If you don't mind me asking, what are the smiths?
Alright another infodump by meee yippee
(So um I’m really tired rn but the fact that I haven’t answered this yet is eating my insides rn lol, so instead of an infodump masterpost where I just infodump basic knowledge to indoctrinate the asker into the same special interest, this will instead be a link post with some helpful links to answer the question)
But I will answer the question myself by saying that The Smiths were an Alternative, Indie 80s band from Manchester. They actually inspired quite a lot of bands including Radiohead, Blur, Arctic Monkeys and even MCR. They lasted from 1983-1987 and had four albums in total(excluding compilation or live albums.
Group consists of four members( pictured below 👇):
Tumblr media
Going from right to left here: we have Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce, and last…but definitely not least….Morrissey.(…is it just me or he does kinda look a bit like post MCR breakup Mikey….i think I read somewhere that Mikey is a Morrissey fan…soo yea ima leave that there)
Alright well I’m gonna leave the info to a couple videos and other informational posts, bc honestly I’m a bit tired and the hyperfixation is more of a “let’s listen to the same songs over and over again and watch the same interviews over and over again and look for the same content over and over again.(a lot of repetitive stuff but hey I like it like that😀)
Now this post goes way more in depth than I have. It’s got a lot of info on band history, group members and their whole personalities and stuff. I think it even goes into solo works and stuff, but it’s really simplified and kinda of interesting.
There’s also this video that basically sums the band’s history up
youtube
So i recommend checking both of those out
Now as for music I can give you some recommendations for where to get started
You should totally start with their hits. Stuff like Heaven Knows I’m miserable now, There is a Light that Never Goes Out, This Charming Man. Basically just any “essentials” or “hits” playlist of The Smiths you come by.
For albums(disclaimer I haven’t listened to every album fully through yet). Probably start with The Queen is Dead. It’s really good and I’ve had it on repeat for quite awhile.
Alright well I will leave you there to do your own exploring. Once again love to answer any questions you may have during your research, don’t be afraid to ask.
