Kindness Goes A Long Way

F!Reader x Sicheng

Prompt: The end of the world is hard to accept as it is, but it’s even harder to be alone. It seems fate had brought you to Sicheng, someone who can definitely survive in the abandoned waste land that had become of Earth. You then find yourself with a group of others, and you might just have a chance at survival. The only problem is there’s something off about the group, something they’re not telling you, and it might mean the difference between life and death.

It was just you and Jungwoo at the breakfast table. The air was so cold and depressing between the two of you. The silence was killing you, but you were also nervous about going to that safe haven, everyone there was now in danger.

“What… what happened?”

Jungwoo just shook his head, and you could only imagine the worse. Given that it was still just the two of you, no one else was compatible, so no one else survived. Eventually the others came to the room, talking about their plan.

“Jungwoo needs to cooperate with us.” YangYang said. “And y/n needs to behave.”

“I’m well aware of that.” Sicheng assured.

“But how are you going to do it?” Ten asked. “Not like she’s gonna behave on her own.”

You always hated when they talked about you as if you weren’t in the room. It also terrified you, wondering exactly what Sicheng was going to do to get you to behave. Even you understood that to go there was dangerous on their part, and you were determined to find a way to get your freedom.

Of course your uneasiness didn’t go unnoticed, Woo reaching over and grabbing your hand, reminding you that you were in this together. That kind gesture didn’t stay secret though. Sicheng saw Woo take your hand and stormed over, grabbing you and pulling you away. He glared at Woo. You wanted to say something but you didn’t want to make things worse.

“Lucas, can you take care of your charge already. The sooner he’s-”

“What about your girlfriend? She’s more of a loose end in all this. So what are you going to do with her?”

“Don’t worry, I have an idea.”

“Which is?”

Sicheng pulled over a chair and sat you down, grabbing another and sitting in front of you, very close. You swallowed nervously, scared, holding back tears. He didn’t seem hostile, just a soft smile on his face, trying to assure you that everything was going to be alright.

“Human memory is fragile, and not reliable, but it can have a deep impact.”

“What… what are you going to do…”

“You’ll be just fine.”

“Siche-”

Your words got cut short when his eyes glowed and you suddenly felt a pain in your head. You tried not to react, doing the stupid thing of fighting, much more terrified of what he had planned for you.

“Y/n… don’t be stupid.”

“Please…”

“Y/n!”

He got up and grabbed your head. He gradually started pushing harder, and the tears began to flow. You couldn’t hold out much longer and you screamed, slamming your eyes shut. You squirmed in your chair, unconsciously trying to get out of his grasp. A bunch of different images flashed before your eyes and all you felt was fear. When he finally let go you fell against him, hugging him tight, sobbing.

“There, there.” Sicheng pet your head. “You’re just fine now.”

“What did you do!” Jungwoo stood. “What the hell did you do to her!”

You sobbed harder and tightened your hug, Woo’s screaming scaring you. Sicheng was a little surprised by how close you were sticking to him, he knew what the expected outcome of his changes were, although he did not expect this intense of a result.

“Come on y/n, let’s go finish packing.”

Sicheng tried to get you to loosen your grip but you wouldn't budge. He sighed, having to forcefully calm you down. You grew drowsy, Sicheng helping you get to your feet and back to your room. You heard some more commotion behind you but it didn’t register. He laid you down in bed, giving you some control back so the new memories could set in properly.

There wasn’t too much to pack but the problem for them would be hiding or explaining away what they did have, and also making room for food. After all they were a group of eight minus Jungwoo, so it had to be believable. When he finished with your things he knew he had to complete his.

“I’ll be back in-”

He couldn’t even finish his words before you scrambled out of bed and ran over to him. You grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly.

“Y/n I-” You wouldn’t let go of his hand. “Okay, okay, come on then.”

He grabbed your bag and led you over to his room. It was mostly untouched, a few things out of his bag. You sat down on the bed, backpack on, waiting. You were still nervous about going to the safe haven. There were going to be so many people and that alone made you anxious. A number of things could go wrong, and what if none of the guys got along well with humans. Of course it looked like they did with you, but if things weren’t going their way they could easily make you and Woo bend the knee. Things were going to be different in there, and you wondered what was going to happen in the long run, or what even was their plan.

“Let’s go, the others will be waiting.”

Sicheng held his hand out for you to take, leading you back to the main entrance. It seemed everyone was packed and ready to go. You noticed Jungwoo was quiet, at the moment he didn’t seem all there, as if he was on standby, but once Lucas called him he seemed normal. It was strange, especially since neither of you wore a chip, but you didn’t really feel much for him, a part of you hated him for giving the others access to a safe haven.

You didn’t want to go, you felt safer in small numbers, safer with Sicheng, even if he was a robot, and on the move, not trapped underground somewhere. He talked about taking you home sometimes, about taking you somewhere actually safe, by his standards anyway. If you had kept on the move you might have been there by now, where his home was. Although you still didn’t know what awaited you there. This safe haven was just a detour, so there was no escape from that fate, at least not yet.

The trip from the bunker wasn’t long, a few hours at best with only one stop. You came to this abandoned town, it looked a lot more run down than others, so it was probably abandoned way before the war. It was a good hiding spot for a hidden safe haven, no one would think to look around, or that staying was safe so they would just move on, none the wiser. Not even the bots, and Kun agreed on that too.

Jungwoo led the group into one of the buildings, going to the back where there was a storage area. He asked for some help moving floorboards, revealing an underground cellar. When you got down it seemed like a dead end but it seemed like a bunch of wood planks could be moved like a makeshift door to reveal a proper one.

“That’s pretty well hidden.” Kun said. “And impressive too.”

“As you know we have multiple entrances and exits, this is just the easiest to access.”

Behind the door, despite the mess, it seemed to be very clean, and it revealed a stone stairwell going down. Woo was the first to go. The stairs were dimly lit and eventually came to a steel door. He knocked a certain way before a small opening in the door revealed a pair of eyes and asked for a code. With a heavy heart Jungwoo repeated it, the whole phrase, and even the floating eyes seemed hurt. Regardless though it was correct and the door opened.

You came into this big, round, room, with three tunnels, and you weren’t alone. A few others were around, armed, which made sense, only Jungwoo was familiar to them, the rest of you were strangers. Woo received a hug from the man at the door, grateful for his return, and sad as well that he was the only one. Everyone else was just weary of those he brought along, and you stuck very close to Sicheng as well, scared, and jumping when the door shut behind you. There was no going back now.

“Yo, newbies.” A woman called. “Follow me for processing. Leave all your things here.”

You all did as you were told, putting your bags down and taking things out of your pockets. You followed her into one of the tunnels, coming to another room with some medical equipment and computers. Others patted you all down to make sure you weren’t carrying any concealed weapons. Then came a fun little test that you didn’t know about, which also had another important function.

You sat down in front of this person with a laptop. She told you that they kept records of all the people in their place. She was going to ask you some questions, but first off they would need to draw some blood. You jumped up when you saw the needle, starting to panic. Your sudden outburst put all the others on high alert and their guns were raised. It made things worse and you started sobbing. You were about to run to wherever Sicheng was but he came to you first and pulled you close. He kept an arm around you and held the other up, asking them to calm down.

“Please, please lower your weapons, she’s just scared.”

“We haven’t done anything.”

“I understand that. Please lower your guns. She had a bad experience out there, and not because of the robots. I’ll explain everything just please, please lower your weapons. She’s harmless.”

Those words made them all a bit hesitant, and understanding, so they lowered their guns although tension remained. Sicheng slowly approached the table you had been at. He sat down and had you in his lap, wiping away some tears.

“Hey, hey, it’s okay, I told you I would get you somewhere safe remember. These people are just being careful. I’ll go first if that’s what you’re worried about okay. Nothing bad is gonna happen.”

Sicheng kept one of your hands in his, letting them draw blood from his other arm. He identified himself to the lady, and then had you sit for your turn. He had you keep your eyes on him so you wouldn’t have to see the needle, letting you squeeze his hand for the pain. When you were asked to identify yourself you mumbled a bit, but Sicheng translated for you.

After all that, you got to truly enter the safe haven. It was an underground community, from where you were you could see quite a lot. A much friendlier person came to greet you all, offering you a tour of the place. It had been a long time since they got any new faces, so it was rather exciting for everyone. You were shown how the place operates, the underground farms they had, water supplies, and a brief explanation of how it all worked too. They had a medical place, their kitchen and dining area, a place for intel, and the rooms. There was so much else there too, to keep busy and live, as well as people of all ages.

“For now you’ll be placed in a room where you can set down your sleeping accommodations. Once our counsel here speaks with you all individually, and our doctors make sure you are healthy, you can choose to be moved into rooms of two or four.”

“Thank you very much.” Kun bowed. “You are very generous.”

“No problem. Someone will be by to take you to your interviews. Medical examinations will be done tomorrow.”

“Thank you.”

Sicheng had you sit down while he laid out your sleeping bag. You hadn’t been listening on the tour, more focused on what had happened when you entered. Even with your memories changed, even though you were scared and wanted Sicheng close, that didn’t change what you knew about them. It didn’t change the fact that you knew they weren’t human, and yet they passed. Jungwoo had told you before robots don’t bleed, but they did, so you weren’t sure what to believe anymore.

“What happened out there?”

Jungwoo stood among the counsel for a debrief. It was usually someone else, he wasn’t that high up in the ranks, but he was the only one left.

“We were approaching our previous location from the last scout when we discovered some heat signatures. We diverted in course to investigate and found a group of eight, those that came with me today.”

“We understand the rules of helping, and bringing them back here safely, but what happened? Did you reach your destination.”

“No. While we were getting acquainted we came under attack. I suppose our numbers must have drawn attention, so we split into groups of three, all those who were found stuck with the group I was in. On our journey back we all kept in contact, everything seemed fine but… it was a total ambush. They must have calculated our trajectory and planned… we had to lay low, so as to not lead them to the bunker… or here… the others in my group were injured… I’m sorry…”

“What is there to be sorry for. At least you made it back so we can know what happened. Now what about those you brought along. None are injured?”

“They weren’t as experienced as us so we did our best to protect them, and the girl with them was rather ill. She wasn’t so keen on coming here either. We all know the danger of going out, we wanted to get them all back here, at whatever the cost.”

“I’m sorry you had to be the only one here. Given the circumstances, your position as a scout is temporarily suspended.”

“What? Are you blaming-”

“No. Not at all, but even if you can’t see it now you surely understand the stress and tragedy that just unfolded before you. It’s best for you to be here than to go out there and be reckless. That’s final.”

“Yes.”

“Get some rest Jungwoo.”

Kun volunteered to be the first interviewed, and you couldn’t help but be nervous. Sicheng noticed and pulled you into his arms telling you not to worry. You knew he did something to you, messed with your head somehow but you didn’t know what. You also didn’t know how you could still somewhat feel his presence in your mind even without a chip, the same probably went for Woo. Still, you leaned against him, not really wanting to be there, but you didn’t get a choice.

When Kun returned, Sicheng asked to go next. He told you that he would take care of things so you wouldn’t have to be so scared. You really didn’t want him to go, but you knew he had to. He helped you calm down a bit before doing so, putting you in a memory from before to keep you distracted. He wouldn’t be gone long, and as he left he glared at the others, telling them not to bother you.

“Dong Sicheng?”

“Yes.”

“It says here you were a university student when the war started.”

“Yes, me and my friends. We met there and… we left together.”

“How have you managed to survive?”

“Dumb luck I’d say. We were in a foreign country when this all started, and despite everything we just wanted to go home. Along the way we had to learn how to survive, and we did.”

“How did you return here? From what we’re told, you were across the ocean.”

“Someone we met… YangYang can tell you more, but they were a pilot, and agreed to fly us.”

“And where are they now?”

“Sir… this is not my story to tell… I wish I knew how I survived given I had no real skills when this all started. I adapted, as did those around me, as did all of you. My group was fortunate enough to find Jungwoo and his people, they help get y/n back to health and for that I am eternally grateful.”

“How did you come across her? She was not part of your original group was she?”

“No… as I’m sure you’ve been told, upon arrival she was very frightened. I understand your need to speak with all of us but I ask that you excuse her or at least allow me to be present.”

“And why is that?”

“From what I know, she traveled alone for a while before she found a group. They were on their way to a safe place, I don’t know if it was this one, but she joined them, even though she was ill. She kept her distance and they were… decent people, but one day things went wrong.”

“They were attacked?”

“Yes, but it’s not what you think. One of the group members went mad and started killing everyone else, she was the last one left. My group stumbled upon the scene and I took out the killer… but the damage was done and she was terrified. She doesn’t tend to like anyone who isn’t me or my group. She doesn’t actually want to be here.”

“How come?”

“The number of people for starters, but I want her to be safe, truly safe. We’ll all need to do our part to stay I presume, something with minor human interaction would be best for her. At least until she adjusts, if I may be so bold as to ask.”

“It’ll be considered.”

“I told you not to bother her!”

Sicheng returned to find you asleep atop your sleeping bag. He glared at the others knowing it was their doing and not his.

“Her vitals were spiking and she wanted you back.” Hendery explained. “You took longer than we thought so I just put her to sleep for a bit.”

“Vitals? Is she okay.”

“She just got a bit panicked all of a sudden.” Kun said. “Which means you lost focus on her. What happened?”

“We’re surrounded by humans, gotta show some emotion to get by.”

“And here I thought you cared about your girlfriend.” Ten snickered.

“She’s not-”

“Sicheng, it’s not even a joke anymore.” YangYang said. “There’s nothing wrong with caring for her, and I’m sure everyone here can relate now, since you know, emotions are on. So the next person being a tease will get it when we go home.”

“How long are we staying here anyway?” Xiaojun asked. “I already hate it.”

“You can do the math can’t you?”

“Actually I can’t. We need Lucas’ puppet to give us access to the database so we know how many people are actually here, and we also needed to have an updated layout of this place in order to create a proper invasion plan.”

“Fair point. So when Lucas gets back we can get a status update.”

Even when you were sleeping you knew when Sicheng was close, when you were in his arms, so you snuggled against him. Although you had a bit of trouble staying asleep. They obviously weren’t talking aloud about such things just making faces at each other and communicating with their own version of telepathy. It was like a soft hum of static in your head, and it made you somewhat uncomfortable.

You eventually woke up and grabbed your head, still sleepy. They all seemed shocked for a second before Sicheng pulled your focus towards him. His eyes glowed and eventually the hum disappeared. You leaned against him, wanting to go back to sleep but he made you stay up. He wasn’t sure if you were going to be interviewed or not so he didn’t want to drag if you had to go. So instead you just munched on a granola bar and waited, seeing some of their facial expressions.

They all went for their interview, and you expected to be the last to go, but you had been excused. It wouldn’t take a genius to know Sicheng must have said something, and you were a bit grateful for it. He tucked you into your sleeping bag, the boys all going to bed as well but you knew that even if their eyes were closed they weren’t sleeping. In the morning the same person from before took you to the infirmary where a doctor would do your check up.

“Hello, nice to meet you, my name is Johnny, and you?”

“Y/n.” Sicheng responded for you. “Her name is y/n.”

“Ah, yes, I heard about you, quiet little thing. Well I assure you we are all nice and friendly, and you’ll soon grow to like it here.”

He went through a usual check up with everyone, doing a bit more for you given that Jungwoo had reported you had actually been sick when you first crossed paths. You all checked out okay and by whatever methods, the counsel approved of your stay. You wondered how bad it would be if you’d been kicked out, but no point dwelling on that. Since you would be staying you moved into rooms. Sicheng didn’t want to share with anyone but you, and they all ultimately agreed to go into rooms of two.

Even though the others would be allowed to try different things and see what fits, you were asked to help in the kitchen. Seemed cliche but it would mean you’d have to deal with less people so you’d take it. You’d mostly washed dishes and help a bit with meal prep, overall you had no reason to step out into the mess hall and eat with everyone else. You became somewhat friendly with some of those around you but not too much. Even if you didn’t want to talk you knew it was partly Sicheng’s doing to be in a mute state, and also why you couldn’t tell anyone the truth about them no matter how badly you wanted to.

Although you didn’t care to be there, everyday that went by made you more nervous. The boys seemed to be adjusting well and getting along with everyone they met. Sicheng was always with you when he had the chance, especially since you preferred eating the kitchen. It still weirded you out to see him eating human food despite everything, and actually enjoying it. All you really wanted to know was how he was passing as human, how they all were.

“You’re actually a pretty good cook. I’m impressed.”

“Thanks…”

“How do you like it here?”

“I don’t…”

“It hasn’t been a week yet, just keep an open mind okay.”

“Why… why are you doing this?”

He knew what you were really asking about but you weren’t completely alone, and he wasn’t actually going to answer you anyway.

“Cause I want you safe, no matter what.”

At night, or what was deemed night, you rushed to your room, not wanting to interact with anyone for longer than you had to. You didn’t know if that was you or Sicheng, either way you just wanted to be away from people. You’d go to your room to get some clothes and then go shower. For the most part you’d go to sleep alone and wake up the same way. You weren’t sure if Sicheng ever came to the room. Since you weren’t expecting him you were surprised to find him sitting in bed when you returned from your shower.

“What are you doing here?”

“This is my room too.”

“Yeah but you don’t… sleep.”

“Am I not allowed in here?”

“I… what do you want?”

“So rude, I thought you liked me, after all I-”

“I know… but you’re busy with whatever takeover plan you have here and-”

“You’ve been thinking too much lately.”

“I… you’re gonna kill people…”

“As if you’re friends with anyone here. Don’t concern yourself. We’ll be done here soon enough and then we can go home.”

“You-”

“Sh, just go to bed.”

You lost your voice and he tucked you into bed for the night. You didn’t bring up the subject again, not sure how much you could get away with before he actually got upset. It sucked though, being around so many people and not wanting to talk, it isolated you a lot, but what were you going to do, no one even bothered saying anything but hello when they saw you. You weren’t tired that night, and figured you could walk around, since no one would be around. That way you could really enjoy the place, and hopefully Sicheng wouldn’t get mad. You didn’t expect to see anyone out so late, but you weren’t the only one up.

“Y/n!”

You heard your name called, but you didn’t recognize the voice. You turned around to see someone running towards you. It freaked you out, but you were too scared to move. When they reached you they grabbed your shoulders, out of breathe, looking you over, a smile on their lips.

“It really is you!”

“I-”

He hugged you tight, and you could hear him sniffling. You were confused, trying to figure out who this was. You pulled them away from you, watching them wipe away their tears and then it clicked for you.

“Haechan?”

“Yeah! Yeah it’s me!”

You felt the tears on your face, pulling him into another hug. You could not believe how lucky you were to have actually reunited with a friend. You were happy beyond words, and then he did something you never expected. Haechan pulled away just a bit, just enough so he could kiss you. Your eyes went wide, but you didn’t pull away.

“I never told you how I felt… and I thought I’d never get the chance… it’s a-”

“Haechan…”

“Hm?”

“Help…”

You collapsed into Haechan’s arms, passed out. You had felt it coming, a sudden feeling in your head. Your heart was racing, and you should have been in bed, he probably knew you weren’t. It must have been pretty unexpected for him, and for a moment you felt you were in complete control. You could only hope Haechan wouldn’t believe whatever he was told and figure out what you really meant.

I walked in to the most recent one (which I had picked at random), and it was on the science of tickling. There were demonstrations. There were hand gestures and finger wiggling. There were in depth descriptions of the anatomy and physiology behind ticklish spots. It was legitimately your Amateur Production’s fic, and I was Kevin. Worst of all it was 2 hours long. I think I died during it and my soul was sucked into hell.

So my goal here is that someone, somewhere, will by chance come across these, and be able and willing to either write fic of the tickly variety for Eren and/or Levi from Attack on Titan, or direct me to someone who can, if they know a person who knows a person who knows a person. Halo!anon submitted: June 4th 2018 I can’t help but imagine how tickling must play a part in other aspects of society in the accessor ‘verse, besides the sessions between master and accessory. So here’s some imagines and headcanons, with a touch of worldbuilding. (Warnings, besides the usual for this AU: death mention, reference to past trauma.)

- Among the high class, during parties and other celebrations, it’s seen as a common courtesy to string up one’s personal accessory in the center of the room and let the guests entertain themselves with them. Lord Castiel never does this with Dean, much to his fellow nobles’ disappointment; the mere suggestion had Dean quaking as things he’d rather forget came back to bite him.

- Every so often, a petty criminal(the poor man’s accessory, if you will) is placed in stocks in a small town’s square and left at the mercy of the very people they used to menace. What happens next usually involves honey, some sheep, and plenty of begging. A guard stands by to warn people, “No hurting, only tickling. Everyone please wait your turn, they’re not going anywhere any time soon.”

- Certain monastic healers perform tickle therapy as a treatment for anxiety, stress, and other “diseases of the soul”, as they call them. Balthazar himself proposed the idea, because of course he did. The rich usually indulge in this kind of therapy secretly, due to its undignified nature. Some contemplate the possibility of training accessories to tickle in the future, but it’s still a big taboo.

- Every town has a folktale about a tickle monster. Curiously, many of them involve controlling plants and attacking through dreams. The southern communities still have a giggle remembering that one time six years ago when Michael offered to hunt down one such monster and came back with Crowley, a sleazy drunkard with a fetish and a dream, sitting in a cage and wearing a mask.

- The Masters sisters, Lillith, Meg and Ruby, have a long history with law enforcement. Their favorite pastime is snatching unlucky merchants off the roads and tickling them into coughing up everything they have. Everyone is sure they had a hand in Fergus"Crowley" Macleod’s untimely demise by ferocious attack hounds, but they’re very good at covering their tracks. They’ll help you cover up your tracks too, if you’re a friend- ask Bela Talbot.

~ Gabriel leads a furious rant regarding Prince Lucifer/Sam to Castiel, relating back to perhaps dealings he has directly had with the Prince between their two unstable-yet-truced Kingdoms. Castiel relates with similar views shared by Gehenna’s councilor(s).

~ Dean and Sam BM where the audience learns more about their homevillage. Dean starts it after a rather morose remark from Sam and ends with Sammy smiling and stealing my heart.

~ Balthazar helps Sam in several ways: 1) Learns the Sam was originally a psuedo-Advocates apprentice, as well as herbalist nephew when Sam identifies the components to some salves/medicines he’s making (he had been explaining what he was doing in an attempt to spare himself being attacked like the first couple times) 2) Calls Sam out on being intelligent and making a recklessly stupid choice by selling himself to find Dean. 3) Removes Lucifers mark. And maybe perhaps: 4) Allows Sam to assist in his own healing/medicine making under his careful observation, feigned as needing two sets of hands to do correctly and his assistant was running an errand, to assess his skills. 5) Offer he work in the hospice under him, apprenticing, should Gabriel allow his intelligence not go to waste. It’s not what Sam really wants to do/learn, but it’s better than doing nothing.

~Dean officially thanks Castiel for saving Sam. I’m talking full feels, single man tear sorta thing. And Castiel says “there was never another option” and then its schmoopy sweet with the kisses and the tickles and the Cas saying he loves Dean back!!!!!!!! swoon.

~ Kali!Likes!Sam’s!Spirit! Give me a dinner scene with Gabriel, Kali and Sam where hes holding his own in a diplomatic conversation with them when he nearly crosses a line (maybe something classist? Making it clear that Cas and Gabe are the exception to his experiences) and she says “I like this ones fire. He reminds me of you, my love.” *grabby hands*

~ Prince Lucifer sends a message to Gabriel requesting (threatening) his Helpmate be returned to him for a handsome reward. Sam somehow sees letter and gets spooked because DRAMA. Gabriel responds to Lucifer with the Chief Advocate equivalent of “Fuck Off”

You, my friend. YOU. All these feelings about Sam? Top-notch, and I shall be borrowing them, yes I shall.

Android!Cas not necessarily tickling at first so much as just touching like he had been wanting to so as to catalog how his best friend feels with his new technology. Android!Cas feeling that bubble of FEELS in his chest as he listens to Dean swear at him with positive physical actions negating his harsh words, growing more amused as the bubbling giggles begin. I love Android!Cas

Dean's never been held immobile before so it's a new experience for him, but he ends up liking it. Cas notices how Dean relaxes into his hold after a minute or so. Cas doesn't fail to use this knowledge about Dean, coming up with teasing words and methods of ticking to make Dean all squirmy and giggly, taking special notice of how light tickles effect Dean even more than most other touches, using that specially designed soft brush meant to gently clean Cas' delicate computer chips.

When did you start writing?

I started writing stories when I was in like second grade, pretty much falling in love with it right there at 8 years old. But I started writing fanfic when I was in middle school.

Tell us your 1D/Harry origin story.

I saw a photo of Harry on Tumblr in like 2010/2011 and I genuinely thought he was someone else so I paid no mind, but then I saw them more and more and looked them up and watched the WMYB video and the rest is history. I stuck with Harry, though, because I was actually already hyping up his solo career to my friend after Zayn left and I’m glad he didn’t disappoint 2015 me.

Tell us why Harry is your muse.

The most important reason is that I find myself relating to him a lot and he’s honestly helped me, over the past 8 years, become a better person.

Do you tell people you write fanfic? Do you tell people you write at all?

No. I tell people I like to write my free time, but that’s it.

Do you have a writing playlist, or do you need complete silence to write?

I don’t have a playlist but I do usually listen to music when I write because I find a lot of inspiration in the sounds mostly and I use the vibes of songs to help with setting the tones of stories.

Favorite thing you’ve ever written?

I don’t think it’s the best thing I’ve ever written, but my story (The Heart) Wants What It Wants is definitely my favorite. I have gone back and reread it so many times and I think about it all the time lol.

Name your favorite things you've ever read, fanfiction and non-fanfiction.

For fanfiction, one that sticks out is this really old Liam fic that I’ve read multiple times called Rescue Me by @some1dfanfiction on tumblr. Another one I loooove that is a one-shot called In The Morning by @stylesunchained. Another favorite is The Golden Hour by standingfacingwest.

For non-fanfiction, my all-time favorite book is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

Do you lean toward one genre over others? What are your favorites?

In the fan fiction realm, I tend to read more enemies to lovers because it’s my absolute favorite (if that is considered a genre?) but in general, I do lean a little more toward contemporary and sometimes fantasy, depending on my mood. I really love historical fiction and I don’t read enough of it. I’ve also come to enjoy more non-fiction things as well like biographies and case studies.

Do you have a fixed plan of what you’re going to write, or do you just see where the story takes you?

Try to have somewhat of a plan, but I don’t always and sometimes even when I do plan things out, I tend to change things as I write so my process is a little bit of an unorganized mess, not really completely one way or the other.

Is there a schedule you follow in terms of when you write? Or are you more impulsive and just write where and when you can?

Impulsive. I tried doing a schedule and fell behind. I’m just not someone who can write whenever, I definitely struggle with motivation.

Are your stories driven by plot or character?

I think they’re mostly driven by character. I spend a lot of time on dialogue and actions more than anything else and trying to actively convey a character based on what they say and do rather than descriptions.

Some readers are wary of leaving feedback because they’re unsure how the writer will take it, how do you personally like to receive feedback? Do you want to be critiqued, or would you like to just know if they did or didn’t enjoy what they’ve read?

I would definitely welcome any kind fo feedback as long as it isn’t non-constructive hate. I want to know if they liked it or not but I also want to know why. And I especially love when people quote parts of the story in their feedback that they really enjoyed. This is pretty cliche, but it really is just very heartwarming to know that something I created has affected someone in any way.

Do you use a beta? If so, feel free to give them a shout out! How do they help you?

I don’t, but I definitely should! I was lucky enough to have @verorax helping me with my 1dffexchange last year and she really made such huge differences in my writing and made my own editing better because I tend to not write in the simplest way possible. So, now I’m always looking at sentences that sound weird and trying to figure out how to say it in more concise ways.

Is writing a hobby or do you have aspirations of writing professionally outside of fanfiction?

It is just hobby and I’ve always said I’d love to write a book one day, but I don’t think it would ever be my career.

Do you post your writing in other places? Where do you you find to be the best place for your work?

I’ve posted on Wattpad only recently, but I’m still pretty faithful to Tumblr. I’m not really sure where the best place is to be honest. I’m still testing the waters with Wattpad at the moment.

Favorite writing trope?

Enemies to lovers. Of course I found a way to already have answered this question.

AU or OU?

AUs. I enjoy creating my own worlds and giving my own personality traits to the face claims I choose rather than being restricted to how, for example, Harry might actually behave based on what we know about him. No hate OUs though, I still like them too!

Preferred types of writing: Blurbs, short stories, or full fics?

Full fics, even though I don’t write them enough. I like creating OFCs and really going deep into developing their personality. I, once again, tend to feel little restricted when I do shorter things with a Y/N instead, even though I do those a lot more often lol

Do you draw anything from your personal life? What inspires your subject matter?

All the time. I think my main inspiration is my own experiences and it always tends to turn out better when I write about something I know because I can be really detailed without worrying that I’m wrong. But, I also get a lot of inspiration from movies and music. For example, in my story Counting Stars, the concept for it is pretty heavily inspired by a mix of outside sources, like the song it’s named after by One Republic, the movies Pursuit of Happiness, Coyote Ugly, and (a little bit) The Basketball Diaries.

What’s your purpose for writing? What do you hope to accomplish?

I just hope to be able to write something that someone can get so lost in that it inspires them to create something of their own.

And finally, do you have any advice or tips for fellow fanfiction writers?

Just to have fun with it and not get so bogged down by lack of recognition. I know how hard it is, I still see lack of notes or feedback and doubt myself all the time, but it’s something I’m trying to get better at. Because even if only one person likes what you write, that person still matters and you’ve still affected them enough for them to come and tell you how much they liked what you wrote and that’s what should be the most important. Not whether or not you have 1,000+ notes on something. Also, I would encourage everyone to step out of your comfort zones every now and then and write something you wouldn’t normally, or take a popular trope and really make it your own. It’s really good practice on getting better with writing!

Self Insert Positivity Day (May 2019)

oooooh boy self inserting. I got into this such a long time ago, purely for the kicks of ‘how cool would I be in X universe?’. I had about 40+ fanfics of different kinds and different scenarios, all at high levels of cheese. unsurprising, since I was just a wee teen back then

even so, cheese is still fun~ I’ve ended up turning things a bit nitty gritty, but sap and fluff and softness is always on my plate for the self-insert drabbles I try to write and the drawings I make. I never really thought of self-shipping as a possibility until I got older, and didn’t know there was such a wide community until I fell into it

the community I’ve found here has been lovely. for all the dips and rough spots, I’ve always found friends to come back to and chat with, and I’ve definitely ended up making friends that’ll last a long time

@robotarmjokes - one of the few people from here I’ve met IRL (think we met IRL before I knew you did self-shipping which was an extra lovely bonus!) and forever a sweet heart. the best kind of cheerleader when I fall in a pit and supportive af whenever I ask her for help. bless you darling~

I have some Jojo aus I’d really like to work on but I’m too busy or too lazy to do it so I’m just gonna dump them here (My English is terrible so please be nice asdfasdf)

Passione Dance Academy AU (Gionara) (All of them are two years older than they are in canon)

Note: I know nothing how dance academies work and I gotta learn before I write this but here’s what I got so far

Bruno and Abbacchio are teachers, Bruno teaches breakdance/hip hop and Abbacchio teaches ballet, they’re roommates, they’re not together as a couple yet but it’s mostly because Abba is a dumbass

Narancia lives with his uncle Formaggio (yes, uncle), they started to live together after Narancia’s mother died and his father neglected him, they don’t hate each other but Formaggio doesn’t really stay at home enough time to bond with Narancia, they also have like 5 cats

Fugo lives with Bruno and Abbacchio after his parents threw him away, but surprise! Fugo’s grandma is alive and well and she sends him cash for stuff he needs, she also visits him every now and then so his family won’t find out

Mista lives alone in a tiny apartment, he befriended the family of 6 mice that live in the air vent

Trish is the daughter of the headmaster Diavolo, they don’t really bond too much and mostly spends her time with her uncle Vinnegar

Giorno was adopted by Jonathan and Erina when he was 8 after Dio disappeared, he has a decent relationship with them and the rest of the Joestar but addresses Jonathan and Erina as his uncle and aunt rather and not as his parents (This will change as the story progresses)

Mista, Fugo, and Narancia study with Bruno while Giorno and Trish study with Abbacchio

I’m not really sure how the story would go because I want drama and romance and goofiness in it, I just know the three nerds saw Giorno and Trish in a performance made by the school, they don’t really talk to each other until one day after classes the three nerds see Trish throwing hands with a dumbass (she was winning) and they go help her to take him down, she’s still a bit shaken after it so they ask her if she wants company till her uncle comes and gets her, that’s how their friendship starts, she mostly visits him in their classroom because her classes finish first, she knew Bruno because he visits her ballet classes to see Abbachio so he lets her stay and see the class, but one day she has to stay late fo rehearse some things with her classmates so the three nerds go to her class instead, that’s when they meet Giorno (Fugo already knew him, he also knew Trish too but only from sight cause they used to attend the same school), Narancia already thought Giorno’s perfomance was good in that show the school had but seeing it closer he thought it was the most beautiful thing he could’ve seen, thus start Narancia’s crush on Giorno and the shenanigans of a bunch of friends who love to dance

Also, I might involve mafia things in here too but I’m not sure yet asdasdfa

Reimi survived Kira’s attack AU

Everything is the same AU except Reimi never died

She was attacked by Kira, yes, but she and Rohan managed to survive, she has ugly scars in her back but that’s only it

Arnold also survives but he dies of old age

They never got to see Kira’s face, after leaving the hospital they stayed in Morioh for a couple of years and so, she still was Rohan’s babysitter, also baby Rohan considered Reimi his hero

Reimi still was a nervous wreck after the attack, so her parents decided to move from Morioh, it made baby Rohan sad but she and Reimi became pen pals for a while until their lifestyles started to take away their time to write cards

Reimi’s will to survive and strength to continue with her life after the attack gave her a stand, I still don’t have a name for it but it works like the cursed alley of Morioh, if Reimi is standing in a closed space/hallway she can activate her stand and drag someone’s soul to wherever the cursed hallway sends them

She became a private investigator and helped to solve a lot of cases, she also became some sort of vigilante, saving people with her stand

Years later she got a card from Rohan, where he told her he was moving to Morioh and would like to catch up with her, Reimi is happy to hear about her old friend, but also worried, because of all the disappearances in Morioh, she believes it might be connected to the one who attacked her when she was younger, so she takes this as an excuse to not only visit Rohan but to find out the truth about all the disappearances

She appears a bit after Rohan is introduced, I don’t know, I just like the idea of Rohan having an actual person he cares about, she’s like a big sister figure to him and everyone is super confused, Rohan is supposed to hate everyone and everything, seeing him getting along with a nice and gentle woman is so weird and confusing. I also like the idea of Reimi being super disappointed on him for treating everyone in Morioh the way he does. Rohan also never uses Heaven’s door on Reimi, not only due to respect to her (and because it gives them time to sit down and talk) but because he believes she knows nothing about stands, Reimi also doesn’t know everyone else has stands but she eventually finds out before Rohan can even tell her lol, also everyone else in Morioh never tells her Rohan also has a stand

The arc with Cheap Trick happens like it does but Reimi helps Rohan, finally revealing her stand to him (Rohan: You had a stand this whole time?! | Koichi: Wait, you didn’t know? | Rohan: DID YOU TELL KOICHI FIRST AND NOT ME?! | Reimi: Actually uh, everyone else knows about it | Rohan: *BETRAYED GASP*) Reimi also reveals her true intention for coming back to Morioh, so she finally informs the gang about the things she had been investigating

Touhou AU

Everyone has cute puffy dresses, Idk I just wanna draw the Jojo characters with Touhou aesthetics and all that jazz

Giorno is helped by a small kid the same way he helped that gangster when he was younger AU (All of them are seven years older than they are in canon) (I’m tempted to make it Gionara but I’m not really sure)

I’m not sure how it happens yet, but it happens, except Giorno is more present in that kid’s life and in the end he adopts the kid and everyone loves the small child *cries*

The entire Stone Ocean Story except Annasui is a woman and is actually nicer AU

Let’s call her Anne Sue to not make it too complicated

She ended up in jail after killing her ex-boyfriend, it was in self-defense but she panicked and ended up stabbing him more than she originally intended to, the jury ended up sending her to jail because of it

She and Jolyne don’t get along at first but after defeating their first enemy together they become friends, and as the story progresses they fall in love

She’s actually nicer and not creep like Annasui, she and F.F. become besties, Weather and her are like siblings, she also gets along with Hermes but there’s some rivalry between them after they both ended up in a tie after a competition of who can eat more chillis

She can be a bit bad tempered, especially when a situation becomes more and more stressful, but she’s usually good at keeping herself focused until whatever was going on is done

She likes to dismantle things too

She panics when she meets Jotaro and blurts out “Please let me marry your daughter!” Then regrets it because she never properly confessed to Jolyne before lmao

Jojo Macross AU (SheiTrish) (All of them are three years older than they are in canon)

I,,,,,,,,, Really love Macross Frontier,,,,,,

Trish is a famous Pop Star known across the entire universe, her stage name is “Mafia Queen” or something like that, her aesthetic changes a lot

Sheila E. is a pilot in training along Fugo, Mista and Narancia, they took the job to be in Trish’s concert so they can fly around and do some air acrobatics

Pericolo is Trish’s manager and he wants Trish to interact with more people her age in a normal way so he asks Sheila E. and the three nerds to hang out with Trish

Everything is a mess, not only the guys managed to embarrass themselves in front of Trish, they kinda made her uncomfortable, so Sheila (who hasn’t spoken too much from the beginning) ask Trish if she wanna go somewhere else without the nerds, Trish accepts and so they leave them behind

Sheila sends them a text later so they won’t worry (Also because she needs the job and doesn’t want Pericolo to think she kidnapped Trish)

The girls have fun and that's how the story starts

I still don’t have much on this one, except later in the story they find out Trish’s voice has the same power Ranka’s voice had and she ends up helping the pilots in order to defeat the [Enemy Alien space of turn]

dgm dungeons & dragons au

We’re still pretty new to dnd but!! I’ve seen a few of dgm aus for it going around and wanted to try my hand at it ^^

Allen is a rogue bloodhunter

Kanda is a ranger

Alma is also a tiefling!

I’m considering a fic for it but considering it’d basically be like writing a campaign and I’ve never dm-ed in my life, I might not go through with it lol we certainly cooked a bit of lore about it though.

Allen’s chakram whip was totally made up lol its basically a serrated whip that clasps around his waist but can coil into a chakram. It was our effort to replicate his first two stages of his innocence (close and far ranged). Allen is one of the few who multiclasses and is initially a rogue who delves into the arcane. He later classes into bloodhunter for....reasons. That’s also when he gets his broadsword! Allen is covered head to toe. He wears a turtleneck sleeveless shirt thats incredibly thick along with the modified bolero shrug (before eventually switching to the manaca armor). He also has long thick gloves. Think like leather or some heavy duty fabric. Then his charkam whip connected around his waist, and his pants. Theyre not skin tight, a loose light fabric that makes no sound when he moves. It grows tighter around his calves/ankles, and then his flat footed boots. On top it all, a cape with a hood and mask. All of Allen’s clothes r zipped, belted, or secured with several ties

Lenalee was a bit harder to place. Eventually, due to the combined spiritual/meditative/combative traits of the monk class, we placed her there. Lenalee’s mainly a physical fighter, and uses her staff to reach what her legs can’t. She has heavy weighted boots that can break bones if she lands a hit on you. She has two sets of earrings, which don’t stand out in comparison to Lavi, but given the absence of any other jewelry, it certainly is noticeable. Lenalee has a bodice for freedom of movement but wears a cropped jacket to cover her arms outside of battle.

Kanda was the most fun to settle on. Tiefling, because it’d make him look intimidating, but also because of the general isolated nature tieflings have. A lot of Kanda’s character design is less superficial and more background, so his outfit is nothing to boast of. Loose wraps, his usual sword. Don’t touch his horns. Ever. He’s also got scarification tattoos done around his chest and left shoulder. They certainly look painful, but if you ask him about it you won’t get a word from him.

AND Lavi. He’s definitely got an interesting background. He’s half-dwarf but insanely tall. What’s the other half? Who knows. He sure isn’t telling, but he swears he’s half dwarf. Up to you if you believe him. Lavi initially has an insanely huge axe, which paired with his statue makes him very intimidating. Lavi’s clothes are less eye catching than his numerous tattoos, piercings, necklaces, and bracelets. Most notably are the piercings and bracelets. They’re welded on, and each one has a strange unique symbol... you don’t recognize any of them, but they clearly carry meaning. His tattoos seem to be of a certain language, but it’s a script no one recognizes.

Sera is a barbarian cleric due to her, hmm, dual kind of nature in canon. She wears a lot fo furs and leathers, most notably a fur collar, a fur skirt with a softer layer underneath, booties, bells along her upper arms and her ankles, and her tonfas hooked in the small of her back. she’s definitely not a powerhouse you might expect, but small means fast and deadly, and her tonfas can do quite a bit of damage. Nonetheless, Sera likes it best when she can help hear her comrades.

Anyways I tried my hand at drawing it.

Dima’s top 12 quick and dirty hacks for sounding more proficient in French

Bonjour à toutes et tous !

A friend recently asked for some French help, and I… got carried away. And made this list. There are probably similar lists out there, but I had a lot of fun making this so OSEF (that’s on s’en fout, or “who cares”).

I realize it’s basically all for spoken (or very casual written) French, but hey, talking is hard, but at least you don’t have to spell anything.

I have more or less put these in the order I (from personal experience) consider to be the easiest to the more advanced/difficult to implement. You may have more luck with one further down the list, who knows. À chacun son style !

(NB: I’m a native speaker of American English currently living in France. I started learning French in 8th grade (~13 years old) and fell in love.)

1. Oui= Ouais

Okay, this is an easy one. Instead of saying a strict “yes” all the time, try a “yeah” in your speaking. (It sounds like “weh”, in case you weren’t sure.) Ouais, ça va.

2. Double subjects French, especially spoken or casual writing, likes to double subjects. It emphasizes who you’re talking about, especially when you’re discussing or comparing multiple subjets.

Use the direct object version and then the subject version of the pronoun:

Moi, j’aimerais bien. Toi, tu as un stylo à me prêter ? Lui, il est parti. Nous, on a déjà fini. (Notice here that “nous” corresponds to the « on ». see trick 3 for more on « on ».) Vous, vous êtes satisfaits ? Eux, ils parlent espagnol.

It also works for objects (at higher levels you will get yelled at for doing this in academic settings but everyone does it so fight me).

La chaise, elle est confortable ?

Le cahier, il est où ?

Le français, c’est une langue compliquée. (Fun fact: the c’ in c’est comes from ça which comes from cela, which is the official subject form “it”. I did not know this until literal years into my French education. Don’t worry about it.)

In questions, the direct object version (moi, toi, lui, etc) goes at the end :

Tu as des sœurs, toi ?

Il a réussi à l’examen, lui ?

3. “Nous” is out; « on » is in Especially when speaking, but also in more casual writing (and even in some scientific research papers, despite what my professors all say), instead of saying “nous”, use “on”. It uses the same conjugation as “il/elle” singular. –Caroline, qu’est que tu as fait avec ton amie hier ? –On est allées au ciné le soir. On s’est bien amusées ! (Note: you must show agreement with whoever the « on » is referring to! That’s why there’s an extra e and an s here: two girls = es ending.)

Nous, on a déjà fini le projet.

It can also be used to refer to people in general, as in “you have to pass a test to become a teacher”, where “you” is just some person in general, and no one specific. In English, we can also say “one”, as in “one must pass an exam…” but it sounds kind of snooty or pretentious. In French ? Very casual. Very common.

On doit passer un examen pour devenir prof. On dirait que c’est de ta faute !

On est plus fort quand on a bien dormi. (Note : for a general use, no agreement is necessary. So just “fort”, not “forts” or “fortes”.)

4. Drop the “ne” from your negations Ok so your professor might not like this, and you should definitely still write it. But when speaking, most French people (young and old except for absolute sticklers) do not say the “ne” in a “ne__ pas” (or “ne __ rien”, “ne __ plus, etc.) construction unless they are really trying to emphasize the negative. Again, this is for speaking only. J’ai pas de stylo. Vous êtes pas d’accord ?

Là j’ai rien compris.

Il peut plus continuer à courir.

Vous voyez personne ?

5. Contractions with je suis, je sais pas, and tu es/tu as

When speaking quickly, French speakers tend to contract certain sounds. Think of the English “I’m going to” becoming “I’m gonna”. In French, there a few common spoken (or chatspeak 😉) contractions:

Je suis: Chuis contente de te voir! ALSO Chu contente de te voir ! (Remember that in French, « ch » makes an English « sh » sound.)

Je sais pas : Chais pas trop. (Remember, we abandoned our « ne”! For some reason, the affirmative “je sais” doesn’t really get contracted as “chais”.)

Tu es : T’es très gentille !

Tu as : T’as un vélo, toi ?

6. Filler words Get rid of your “um”s and “uh”s and replace them with things like “euh”, “ben” or “fin”: Je suis… fin, je suis pas content de voir ça.

Ben, écoute, il y a plus que ça dans la vie !

7. “du coup” This is a spoken/casual replacement for “donc” and I swear native French speakers use it in every conversation. I honestly thought it was just a random filler word for literally weeks the first time I lived in France. Any time you want to say “so” or “therefore”, try du coup instead of “donc”:

Du coup, j’ai oublié l’heure du rendez-vous.

J’ai raté le train, du coup je suis arrivé en retard.

On comprend pas les consignes, du coup on peut pas finir le projet.

8. « N’importe quoi ! »

Okay this is a very self-indulgent because this is like. My favorite thing to say in French. It’s a very flexible phrase, and hard to “directly” translate into English. Here are a few scenarios where it works well:

· To say « anything »: Tu peux faire n’importe quoi avec un diplôme de Business. (This might be the original usage? But not the most fun…)

· Someone says something totally false or incorrect and you want to call them out (a tiiiny bit rudely): Mais tu dis n’importe quoi !

· Something is ridiculous or nonsensical: C’est vraiment du n’importe quoi…

· When someone is doing who-knows-what: Tu fais du n’importe quoi!

9. Le subjonctif

Listen. I’m really sorry. As a native English speaker, I had no idea what the subjunctive was. We don’t inflect it in English, and there’s a shit load of irregular stems, and sometimes the use of subjunctive seems random and doesn’t follow the “rules” our teachers give us. (Welcome to language, where everything is made up and rules don’t matter.) However, it’s really common in French. Anyway, even if you don’t master this mood, there are a few common phrases and irregular forms you should pay attention to:

· Il faut + infinitive: the easiest one. Seriously, you got this one.

· Il faut que j’y aille : I gotta go ! (aille is from aller) (please don’t ask me what the “y” is for; it’s a pronoun for a place but like… where are you going? Somewhere… Just don’t forget it.)

· Il faut que je fasse… : I have to do/make… (fasse is from faire)

· Il faut que tu sois/ça soit/vous soyez … : You/One/Y’all must be…. (sois/soit/soyez is from être)

10. Complain more

You think I’m kidding ? Okay, I am a little bit. But if you have the opportunity, a little whining never hurt anyone. According to my sources, 25% of French culture is complaining.

Here’s a few phrases to try out:

Ça craint! (That sucks!)

C’est chiant, ça. (A bit vulgar, so mind your audience.)

J’ai des devoirs à faire mais j’en veux paaaaas. (really draw it out)

Mais non, c’est pas possible… (with a sense of despair)

When in doubt, just fais la grève (go on strike).

11.Slang (argot) and swearing (gros mots)

Learning and integrating slang is… difficult. It varies regionally, it doesn’t translate directly, and if you’re only using French in a classroom setting, your teacher probably wants you to use more formal (and polite) French. BUT. It’s fun and if you spend time around native speakers in a casual setting, they will probably use a shitload of it. Here is a small selection of my favorites:

· Bordel: literally a brothel, you can use this to say something is a mess (J’ai pas fait le ménage depuis longtemps… Mon appart’ est un bordel…)

· Je m’en fous !: The more aggressive/vulgar cousin of “je m’en fiche” and “ça m’est égal » (all meaning various degrees of “I don’t care”), tell people you don’t give a fuck with this expression.

· Abréviations communes : la faculté (université) becomes la fac, d’accord becomes d’acc, personnellement becomes perso, ne t’inquiète pas becomes t’inquiète (negation ? don’t know her). There are loads others, but those are the ones that come to mind right away.

· Putain (‘tain): roughly the French equivalent of “fuck”. Use it as an exclamation, or add “de” and a noun to say “fucking (thing)”: putain de stylo ! Il y a plus d’encre !

· Merde/marde: literally “shit”, another common French swear. Merde is the French-from-France version, marde is the Canadian-French version that I also use because I think it sounds better. Feeling really angry? Try combining it with “putain” for “putain de merde/marde” for a nice, resounding “fucking shit!”

· Verlan: I personally don’t like/use verlan, but you might hear it among younger (teen/young adult) native speakers, especially those in urban/immigrant areas. it’s a heavily cultural kind of slang, but many words have entered “mainstream” French. Check out the french wiki for more on verlan (the English wiki is less complete re: cultural significance, but explains the form a bit). This is only on the list so you recognize what the hell people are saying when you hear it. The 2 most common ones I hear are meuf (femme) and ouf (fou).

· Wikebec.org: If you want to learn a lot of very diverse Canadian French (including slang and swearing, which is a whole art), check out wikebec. It is all in French, so if you’re not as advanced you may need an additional French-English dictionary.

12. Punctuation (aka I am passionate about silly things you can honestly skip this one I won’t be sad)

Wow, something about formal writing! So this is getting kind of knit-picky, and if you switch your word-processor language to French, it will do this automatically for you. Anyway, punctuation in formal French writing is a little different from English. Obviously, where and how many commas there are is very nuanced and I’m not going to get into much here, but here’s a few stylistic things to consider for the Advanced Schmoozer Student of French™:

· Commas in a list (virgules dans une série)

Ok so in English, I am an Oxford Comma Stan. The French have cordially invited me to go fuck myself. Here’s an English example WITH the Oxford comma, followed by the French translation withOUT the Oxford comma:

I bought milk, eggs, and fruit at the store.

J’ai acheté du lait, des œufs et des fruits au supermarché.

(The Oxford comma is the one after “eggs” in my example. It’s not there in French. It’s not a thing in French.)

· Quotation marks (des guillemets) You may have noticed in this document that for the French words, there are some accent looking things. Those are quotation marks. In narrative writing, these bad boys are largely ignored, but if you use MS Word with a French dictionary turned on, it will automatically turn your English “ “ into French « ». (See next point for further usage instructions.) « Les guillemets français sont différents de ceux d’anglais. »

· Extra spaces For all punctuation except periods and commas, an extra space is used. This means that colons (:), semicolons (;), quotation marks, question marks, and exclamation points have an extra space. Again, if you set your language to French, MS Word should do this automatically for you, but it looks like this:

Tu parles à qui ?

J’étais choqué !

Il faut faire attention ; sinon on va se tromper.

Danger : entrée interdite !

Le mot « putain » est vulgaire.

Quelques ressources utiles et d’autres conseils

This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the resources that I’ve used throughout my French education. BUT, these are the ones I frequently use and find easiest to navigate.

· www.wordreference.com Ok if you’re not already using wordreference and you are a fluent English speaker learning French, honestly what are you doing. Love yourself. It’s not perfect, but it’s by far the best online English-French dictionary I’ve used. (There is also a Spanish-French dictionary, but as my Spanish isn’t that advanced, I can’t speak personally to its accuracy.) Highlights of WR: easy to use, free app for phones/tablets, audio pronunciation for most (perhaps all?) main entries (and IPA transcription, if you know IPA), extensive phrases/expressions/idioms per entry, lots of example sentences (though not for every definition), forum with discussions of usage in context.

Just like any dictionary, pay attention to the part of speech and context: don’t just pick the first translation! Make sure it’s the version you want for your sentence.

· https://www.linguee.fr/francais-anglais

Another good online French-English dictionary, though I don’t use it as much.

· http://bonpatron.com/ A spelling and grammar checker! The free version has a character limit, but you can just cut your original text into smaller chunks and check it in parts instead of all at once if you pass the limit.

Highlights: Will tell you the general rule for errors it identifies (in English! As long as you make sure the “I’m a francophone” box is NOT checked), distinguishes between “double check this” (yellow highlight) and “just wrong” (red highlight), will check for feminine adjective agreement if you check the “je is feminine” box

· www.french.typeit.org

If you don’t want to install a French keyboard, memorize keyboard shortcuts, or spend 5 minutes searching for your accents in the “insert symbol” menu of word, typeit.org offers a free, online French keyboard. You can use their shortcuts or click on the button with the accent you want. Only downside is that you gotta copy paste it back into your document, but I used it a lot back in high school for typed French assignments.

Okay, hear me out: yes, this is a site for grade school teachers to help their kids learn French (as native speakers). BUT, there are a BUTTLOAD of conjugation exercises, vocabulary builders, and they all have answer keys! Available in .doc and .pdf format.

“Fiches” is where you want to go for the worksheets. It has downloadable worksheets, and then you can either choose a grade level or just start scrolling. The worksheets are organized by category, like “lire” with short stories and poems (for kids, so eh idk if that’s interesting), “grammaire” (goes more into parts of speech and such, but all in French), “orthographe” (spelling/writing rules), and “conjugaison” (our good friend verbs).

For the niveaux (levels): CP= 1st grade, when kids learn to read. These are likely not what you are looking for. CE1= 2nd grade, CE2= 3rd grade, CM1= 4th grade, CM2= 5th grade. Obviously gets more complicated/harder the higher the level.

So if you can put up with the grade school approach and you want more practice, check out what they have. (If you can’t find what you’re looking for, ask me and I will help you find what you need.)

Aaaah I got tagged to do this WIP meme thing by @littlexabyss and @dafan7711! Thank you!

Do This: List 10 things you’re currently working on in as much or as little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, arts, gifsets, whatever.

and oh man SO MANY THINGS OKAY. I HAVE SO MANY WIPS.

1. The current commission list can be one entry: I have three pieces under active work, and there’s people on the waiting list. Loads of 100% delightful stuff that I’m happy to be able to work on too, not just 700 different dogs! :D Also some gifts & other art for others - not forgotten, just. I’m a disaster.

2. Page 6 of my post-fallout 4 comic about Jay and his little family going to find some sheep, plus he entire comic in fact. xD I have lots of pages scripted but this one panel is being a brat and I’ll have to change it. But this comic is a labor of love and I don’t care if it’s slow as heck, I’m learning a lot while making it!

3. The goddamn bicycle fic that I’ve meant to write for seven years approximately featuring a modern AU Jay & Anders after Jay’s gotten to a little car accident and they ride this ancient bicycle home and veer off the road into a ditch but it’s not so bad and then they look at the stars for a bit. A little atmospheric thing basically, but it’s doing its best to elude me. xD

A little D&D one-shot that’s based on the first part of the Lost Mines of Phandelver but in my own little world - I’m in the process of fleshing out the world a bit and making sure it’ll be fun and nobody will hopefully die and be bummed about the whole thing. ^u^ I’m making index cards of important bits , and handouts, and will probably draw some things to show the players because nobody knows what a bugbear looks like!

5. A proper reference of the Hawke siblings to show what my headcanons for their appearances and body types in Jay’s playthrough are ONE DAY I’ll actually do it properly & feature Carver’s mabari tattoo and everything. xD

6. Part 2 of that space!Damir & Joker fic from that one time - (Undertones 1/2). I have kinda forgotten where I was going with that but I’m sure I’ll remember or find a new direction. xD

This was a questions tag thing that went around like a month ago, and it’s been sitting in my drafts waiting for me to finish it

1. What are you studying or what is your profession?

I’m studying economics! I’ll graduate with an honours undergrad degree next year, and then I want to complete a masters in economics, a masters in public policy, and a phD in economics, then spend my career writing macroeconomic policy for governments. Basically I want to run the world

2. I read a lot of opinion about FMAB and FMA03 Mustang, but what is your opinion about FMAB and FMA03 Edward?

I have opinions, and I am going to start on that essay post soon!

3. Where are you from?

I grew up in Victoria BC

4. What is your favourite film/book and why?

Across the universe is my favourite movie, because I love Beatles music, and I think the movie is just so well done. and Harry Potter is my favourite book, because, well, why does anyone like Harry Potter? It’s the first book I read all the way through, because it came out when I was a smol, the first book that had enough diverse characters that I could identify with, and rereading it it’s feels like catching up with an old friend❤

5. If you get a role in the FMA live action, which role would you play?

I would love to play Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong, but I think honestly, I would want more of like an extra role, because I’d be too busy fangirling to actually act, plus, acting isn’t really my thing

6. FMA03, FMAB or FMA manga?

Good golly, that’s tough. I haven’t read the manga yet, I have a processing disorder that makes it hard to read black and white manga. Between 03 and brohood, brohood is definitely a better series, but 03 is important to watch. I really love Ed’s character development in 03, and I LOVE satan Tucker’s fate. Death is too merciful for him, I love that he sufffeeeerrrrrrrrrsssssss

7. If you get an opportunity to meet with an author who would you choose?

I think Arakawa would be a really cool person to meet. From the little that I’ve read/heard about her, I feel like we’d get along

8. Which fictional character would be your best friend?

I think Mai from atla would be my saltmate for sure

9. Favourite fandom?

Definitely fma

10. When did you join to the tumblr community?

I think I made a tumblr in like 2012, but didn’t really get into it, then after watching fma, I started looking at fanart, and found royai fanfics that soothed my soul, and then I started using Tumblr, so mid 2016.

11. Do you make fanarts, fanfictions, amv etc.?

I wish. I am an artist, but I paint impressionist landscapes, so fanart isn’t really my domain. And I’ve never really been a writer.

This was kind of answered with when did I join Tumblr. But I got into fma after my brother nagged me to watch it. I got into fandom back in the days of My Immortal and the Harry Potter fandom, but I didn’t have a tumblr back then, so it was more looking at hp fanart on deviantart and MySpace, and googling fanfics, but I was never part of a fandom community until I found fma

What’s your favourite part about your favourite fandom?

I love that the fma fandom is still thriving, like, brohood ended 6 years ago, and people are still joining the fandom, making new art and fics, it’s awesome!

If you could spend the day with any fictional character, who would it be and why?

I’d love to spend a day with Katara, she’s so incredible, and I think I could learn a lot from her, like just how to be a better person in general

What fictional character has had the biggest impact on your life or has inspired you the most?

Hermione was the first character to have an impact on me. And it was because I have gigantic teeth just like her. Seriously, my front teeth are like twice the size of my husbands, and I’ve had these teeth since I was a tiny 8 year old. So I latched onto her character, and started to find more similarities between me and her, and she taught me it’s ok to be smart and a girl

Talk about your favourite book (I KNOW IT’S HARD but if you had to pick one).

Lol hp fo sho. It's just so perfect, like even now, there's still more I'm learning about the Harry Potter universe, and so many more headcanons I can get behind...and more reasons to hate Snape

Do you have any accomplishments or anything in your life you feel the most proud of?

Ha, way too many. I have a super interesting back story, but that will take to much to talk about here

Tell us about a project you have going on! Or if you don’t have one, maybe something you’ve always wanted to write or draw?

Right now I’m doing an econometric analysis on whether minimum wage increases have impacted the CPI in British Columbia for the last 30 years, and I’m also writing about how Canada’s economy wouldn’t have developed without the help of the Indigenous Peoples

How do you feel about AU’s?

Meh. I like the funny au headcanons, like the one @izumiicurtis proposed, where everyone wears period clothing, except ed still looks like he robbed hot topic in the dark (that is the best joke in the fandom I swear) but I never really got into au's

Do you have any favourite composers or soundtracks?

I really love the Rent soundtrack

In your opinion, what is the best Disney movie to come out since Disney’s Golden Age?

Major. General. Olivier. Mira. Armstrong. that woman is a goddess and could kill me and I’d be ok with it. She’s so powerful and doesn’t take any crap and she’s so smart and always plans ten steps ahead of everyone and she’s not afraid to admit she doesn’t know everything and she loves her brother so much and does so much to protect her family plus she’s absolutely beautiful like her hair is made of silk I swear and the way she fights with a sword instead of guns I just love swords

well, I think that dog must be Roy’s, and Roy is a nerd, so he probably named her similarly to how Riza named Black Hayate

4. Knowing the FMA baddies masterplan, what would you have tried to do to stop Father?

lol I’m 5 feet tall and I’ve never been in a fight in my life, If I tried to stop them, I’d somehow trip and accidentally press the big red button that sets the plan in motion (oh there’s no big red button that does that? surprise, when I’m around, there’s suddenly a big red button that does The Bad Thing(tm) )

5. Which is your favorite AU?

Idk, I’m not really into AU’s

6. What fictional character would you have a comfortable silence with?

Riza. I feel like she’s the type who doesn’t do small talk, but when she gets to know you she starts like, making puns and when she has a topic to talk about, she really gets into it. And she doesn’t seem like the type to be awkward with silence

7. Which fictional character would you introduce to your family?

Riza. I think she’d have a lot of fun with my family, and I think my family would like her. I would say Olivier, but she doesn’t seem like the ‘meet the parents’ type of person to me

8. Which fictional character deserved better?

Katara in legend of korra, they really did a horrible job with her character

so, that witch au.....

i kind of really wanna write it, but at the same time i wanna finish gold dust or something else first, so that i have less on my plate when i do. i say that cause instead of being a silly oneshot or a group of them, this would be a longfic. i’ve been playing a lot of rpgs lately and they’ve always been a huge impact on my life, so it would be something like that? high fantasy with a big, arcing plot.

basically, if you’re into magical powers, typical fantasy settings (castles and horses and swords and that stuff), keith with Plot Amnesia, and splatterings of angsty klance, i guess go ahead and click that read more?

general plot first? general plot first.

the main religious type thing in this universe is the worship of the Star God, who is a powerful being said to have taught mankind to walk on two legs and speak and think. that typical kind of stuff. the people prospered under them, but as their cities grew, eventually their faith dwindled.

as punishment, the star god started to blight the people who forgot them, creating demons as punishment and opening a rift so they could come and make the humans suffer.

then a few hundred years ago, before the start of the story itself, a great and noble warrior worked with the aide of five others to speak to the god, and then fight them when they refused to close the demon rift.

the warrior won, and the rift was closed, but he also was granted a powerful orb that granted him magic.

he felt he was not worthy of this power and feared what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands. so he split it into five pieces and gave one piece to each of his companions, whom he trusted and knew would not abuse the power gained.

the hero’s name was lost in time, but now people pray to him as much as they do the star god.

the shards of power can be passed down, because of course, and the people who have them are given the title Witch. for a long time Witches were held in the utmost respect and served the royal family directly as long as it was morally upstanding. so, they would keep places safe but not fight in wars. they’re protectors, not weapons.

but in the last fifty years or so, Witches have gained more a reputation of being evil than good. at the start of the story, there is only ONE Witch still aligned with the royal family. one died and the stone was lost so there isn’t a Witch to replace them, one is simply MIA, one is locked in a high security prison, and the last is out there wrecking havoc.

ofc these Witches were Shiro, Pidge, Hunk, Lance and Keith.

they’re Air, Nature, Earth, Water and Fire Witches respectively.

Hunk is the one still with Allura in the capital. Pidge vanished into thin air and no one can seem to find them. Shiro is in the prison. Lance is the one tearing up the countryside. Keith is... the one who died.

except, aha, he’s not really! cause that wouldn’t be any fun. three years ago, keith woke up in the forest of a very small village far away from the capital and the Witches. he doesn’t remember who he is, and only knows his name because of a silver ring inscribed with the name ‘keith’ inside. it’s the only thing he has on him.

the villagers are wary of him, rumors has it that demons have been coming back, and something messed up happened with the Witches during some Right to the Star God a few months before they found him. still, he ends up being taking in by a kindly spinster. he cements his place in the village over time by being a hard worker and also an excellent hunter, helping provide with all the meat he brings in from the forest with his sword and traps.

he’s even gotten a few offers to marry daughters, the sly dog :u not that he ever accepts. even if he is curious about where he came from, he is content in the village and loves the woman who calls him ‘son’ now.

so, one evening he gets woken up by a strange sound in the forest. thinking it’s monsters trying to test the town walls again, he grabs his sword and heads out to go and put a stop to it.

instead he finds a strange man he’s never seen before bathing in the pond a little ways from the village. he gets caught, ofc, and after a bit of banter he introduces himself as Lance. Keith doesn’t get any clear answers on who he is or what he’s doing out here, cause suddenly monsters attack. the two defeat them with ease and Keith comments he’s never seen a bow like the one Lance carries before.

Lance just ends up smiling and telling him that Keith reminds him of someone he used to know, and to leave the village before tomorrow morning. then he leaves.

Keith is struck with a sense that something was off about Lance, and it was more than the aura of wrong that came off the other the entire time they talked.

ofc keith doesn’t listen and goes back home. he wakes up that next morning to screams of terror. when he goes outside, he sees some type of ice or crystallization taking over the village. including the people who happen to get caught in it.

he finds out it’s lance, in the middle fo the village, using magic to do this. he has a guard with him named Sendak, who is keeping everyone who tries to attack at bay.

ofc keith tries to stop them, but he can’t fight back against a Witch and this guy who has almost superhuman abilities. oddly enough, lance spares him for ‘the crystal to take’ and he falls unconscious as the crystal starts to surround him, too.

keith has a strange dream, one about fire and yelling and dying, but he doesn’t understand it. he wakes up hot and confused, the crystal splintering from around his body. it surprises a group of royal knights who seem to be there to investigate and are collecting the crystallized bodies. this is how keith meets Hunk.

Hunk is the last of the Witches still loyal to the queendom. they had been tracking lance but came too late. hunk finds it unusual that keith broke out of the crystal, and since he now has nowhere to go he agrees to go back to the capital with hunk.

hunk also mentions that keith looks like someone really familiar to hunk, but won’t give anything up when pressed for answers.

keith does learn that lance, now known as the Witch of Hate, used to just be the Witch of Water. however, something happened that corrupted his heart so badly his power mutated. The same thing happened to another Witch, he says, and is surprised that keith doesn’t know this. however, even hunk doesn’t know exactly what happened to corrupt Lance so badly, because ‘the only person willing to give up answers is dead’.

when they arrive at the capital, they meet Queen Allura, and her advisor Coran, they explain that what happened in keith’s village isn’t an isolated case and lance has been targeting small villages and freezing them solid for months now. oddly enough, the people lance have frozen are still alive, they’re just in a magical statis and can’t be freed.

allura thinks that if they can stop Lance and get a new set of uncorrupted Witches, they can use their powerful magic together to free the people. since keith is an unusual case, she offers to let him stay at the castle, provided he use his strange ability to not be cursed (cause the crystallization is a powerful type of curse) to their advantage.

she assigns him to help track down Pidge, the Forest Witch, to see if they will help or are corrupted, as well as see if he can find out what happened to the Fire Shard. it still exists, but has been lost ever since the Fire Witch died and no one knows where it could be.

okay, i think that’s enough for now. is lance really evil???? fuck no, but i’ll explain more on that next post! if you wanna use this au for something, from drawing to writing to singing or... whatever you wanna do, go for it! i’ll end up outlining pretty much the entire plot in these posts.... baring very very detailed things. i’m tagging this as klance cause, as with most of my fics, it’s klance related even if this post isn’t so much? it’ll be more next time. i really hope to write this at some point, and i hope you enjoy reading it!
