#I'M annoyed that it's been a year and we've still got people like you insisting that your interpretation is fact

So. Like. Izzy doesn’t have the social or emotional power over Ed to be his abuser. He’s not good at manipulating people, let alone a ‘tactical genius’ like Ed. It speaks volumes on some of yall’s opinions on Ed that you think he can’t just get rid of someone trying to hurt him like that.
It’s easy to reach a conclusion when you’re starting from the conclusion and working backwards to an explanation. I could just as easily go through a list of ‘signs of abuse’ and call Ed Izzy’s abuser but I’m not going to do that because, while those signs might be there, it’s more complicated than that. There’s nuance that’s being ignored by labeling either one of them as the sole ‘bad guy’ in their relationship (however you interpret the word ‘relationship’).
I’m not going to argue the specific points because there’s no point, I’m going to block and you’re not going to see this unless someone shows you or you block evade (which I can’t see why you would so I doubt you will). I will say though, the toe thing was not ‘striking back’ at abuse. It was premeditated assault. It was done with intent to control. To put Izzy back ‘in his place’.
If Izzy brings it up as a negative that’s because it IS. Genuinely, I don’t know how many times we have to say it but disabling someone is not a punishment.
You say you’re not an expert on abuse and it shows. Reading a single text on ‘things a perpetrator might do’ does not give you authority to ascertain anything about their relationship, especially when you’re only looking at one side of the relationship. You are certainly allowed to interpret their relationship that way but you HAVE to understand that it’s just YOUR interpretation and that not everybody is going to see things the same way you do. If you don’t like seeing interpretations you disagree with then, by all means: block those people. Ultimately these are two fictional characters we’re talking about and it does no inherent harm for people to have these differing interpretations. Remember: discomfort is not harm, and can be easily avoided by the block button.
(Also? Hiding replies that disagree with you really doesn’t reflect well on your argument, just saying.)
Anyway, bye. May we never cross paths.

The First Lazy Thanksgiving Pairing: Eddie Munson x You Summary: Eddie comes to stay with Evil Woman during Thanksgiving Break '85 for a lazy and turkey-filled few days... but do holiday plans ever actually turn out the way they're supposed to? Contains: Lazy plans gone awry, unscheduled visits from unwanted family, food prep, stolen moments, fast-forwarding through stressful things because it's my story and I can, cunty relatives, smokin' the reefer, a proposal, leftovers, lots of time spent with Team Evil Woman. (If you're not into the family fics, I won't hold it against you.) Words: 7.8k
Note: This one goes out to everyone who'd rather be spending today with Eddie.
Tumblr media
"What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?"
Eddie looks over at you without missing a note in the song he's practicing in his chair. You're lying on your side on his bed, one hand propping up your head and the other still on the book you've abandoned in favor of watching him play Other Sweetheart.
He shrugs and looks back down at his flying fingers. "All tastes the same to me."
"What." It doesn't come out as a question, because it is an outrage. You know that Wayne works so much overtime during the holidays, he doesn't even bother coming home, and that the Munsons aren't big on family meals… but has no one ever invited him over for Thanksgiving dinner? Even for a round of leftovers? Or sent him a plate?!
"We usually grab a few Thanksgiving-y TV dinners for when he gets off work." Eddie holds his guitar upright and plays a more complicated tune to downplay his explanation.
You feel guilty for leaving him alone last year. You'd only been with him for a few months, but you'd gone back to the place you'd just escaped from to spend another stuffy Thanksgiving with your family. That's what he did while you were away? Ate a tasteless TV dinner?
"No, wait," he says quickly, "Jeff's mom made him bring me a plate last year. Stuffing was the best."
You try to mask the pity on your face, but he notices. His eyes turn to steel.
"I'm not a charity case. The Munsons don't need to celebrate meaningless shit whenever The Man tells them to." This sounds a little rehearsed. He holds your gaze, but his face soon softens. "Don't go gettin' all mushy on me, woman."
"How dare you. This cold black heart does not get mushy," you insist. He raises an eyebrow. He knows better. "Unless there are pictures of really cute baby animals," you continue. "But you tell anybody that, and this'll be your last Thanksgiving, Munson." You point a finger at him in warning.
He snorts and looks back to his guitar, starting a new song.
"I was merely doing as my mother instructed," you explain, rolling onto your back and looking up at his ceiling. "Because you're coming to Lazy Thanksgiving, and she wanted to make sure we had plenty of your favorite." You pause, waiting for his curiosity to get the better of him. He stops playing. You've got him.
"…what's Lazy Thanksgiving?"
You smirk. "It's is our first Thanksgiving without all of my annoying-ass relatives, so we're doing it OUR way, all week long. Which means food we actually like, people we actually like, and pajamas all damn day. Just like we've always dreamed of. So pack your best sweats, Munson, 'cause you're staying with us 'til Wayne's off doubles."
You glance over to check for a response.
"Is that an invitation or an order?" He's fighting a smile. He's coming.
"That's up to you, babe." You bat your eyelashes at him.
He rolls his eyes, sets his guitar aside, and crosses the room to crawl on top of you. His chin rests in the valley between your breasts, and you reach up to brush his hair out of his face.
"You really want me?"
"Like right now, or over Thanksgiving break?" you tease. Before his lips can even form a pout, you continue, "'Cause the answer to both is a definite yes."
Tumblr media
There was only half a day of school on Tuesday, but it felt like longer than usual. You wanted to be OUT of there.
The groceries were bought, the turkey was thawing, your family was hours away, and Eddie was coming to stay for several days. It really was the Thanksgiving you'd always dreamed of. There would be no awkward catch-ups, no uncomfortable clothes, no arguments or hostility, and no weird dishes with undesirable or un-pronounceable ingredients. You couldn't wait.
You and Eddie were out of your seats and on the way to your shared locker before the final bell of the day finished ringing. You shoved all the crap you wouldn't need into the metal prison - rescuing Eddie's discarded history notebook with the intention of making him study, which earned you a whine - and slammed the door shut.
He hooked his arm around your neck and marched you through the hall and out the doors, where you took your first breath of free air.
No school for a week. Just what the doctor ordered.
You climbed into the van's passenger seat and waited for the rest of the boys to show up. On today's menu was band practice - in lieu of their usual Hideout gig, which had been called on account of the owner not wanting to scare off the home-for-the-holidays crowd with teenage metal - then breaking for family stuff 'til a special Hellfire session on Saturday. Other than that, everybody was on their own.
The boys chattered about their plans for the week until the van jerked to a stop in your driveway, and everyone piled out and headed into the garage. You went into the kitchen, to see what kind of snacks you could dig out. Nevermind that they'd just eaten lunch half an hour ago; you cannot practice metal without fuel. It's against the law. (According to Gareth, anyway, who would make a terrible lawyer.)
The look on your mother's face stopped you in your tracks.
She was holding the phone in a white-knuckle grip. Eyes narrowed. You could practically see the steam coming out of her ears.
What have you done? You quickly scan a week's worth of Hawkins High shenanigans, but can't think of any mischief that would warrant a call home for you. Your brother, either. What the fuck?
She gestures for you to close the door, and you do… definitely not thinking about stepping on the other side of it before you do so.
"Alright. See you soon," she says through gritted teeth. She stands to hang up the phone on the kitchen wall, then knocks her head against it. You're still frozen to the spot.
Finally, she removes her head from the wall and turns to you. "Get your brother in here."
You reach for the door handle, point to Gareth, and crook your finger in a 'come here' motion. He comes in, stands next to you, and waits.
"Your grandparents have decided to grace us with their presence."
You both groan.
"They'll be here by dinnertime."
"Tonight?!" you both shriek.
"It's only for a day. They want to be back home in time for the real family Thanksgiving."
"So we're upending everything we've planned to accommodate them?" You can feel the rage swirling inside you.
She closes her eyes and pinches the bridge of her nose. "I've gotta make a new grocery list, if there's even anything left at the store, find the recipe for that stupid pie, make something for dinner tonight, get that turkey thawed a day early, clean, drive my car into the quarry…"
"We can handle dinner and cleaning," you say at the same time Gareth asks, "Why do you need a new grocery list?"
"Can you imagine your grandmother's face if she found out I served her a dinner roll I didn't make from scratch?"
"She'll live." You roll your eyes.
"And she doesn't, that's one less thing we have to wor…" Gareth clears his throat, and you try not to smirk.
"Go practice, it's the last fun you'll have 'til they're gone."
He turns on his heel at her suggestion and disappears into the garage.
"Where do you want me, Coach?"
"Help me with this damn grocery list."
You made a list of all the foods you thought you were leaving behind, flipped through recipe cards until you found the things your grandparents expected, and checked the cabinets to see what you already had. So long, Lazy Thanksgiving. You were a nice thought.
When the page-long list was complete, your mother set off to the grocery store. Again.
You hid all the food your grandparents would disapprove of, then dug through the freezer and found pizza rolls for the boys and a forgotten lasagna for dinner. You popped the pizza rolls in the oven and tidied the kitchen to the sounds of Corroded Coffin. Possibly the last decent music you'd hear for the next 24 hours. Your grandparents would probably call for an exorcist if they saw your tape collection.
Your head was buried in a bottom cabinet when the oven timer dinged, catching you by surprise and making you bump your head. You back out on your hands and knees and grumble, rubbing your sore spot, when you feel a burst of hot air.
"Watch it, hot stuff." Eddie grins, pulling the pan of pizza rolls from the oven with a potholder shaped like a turkey.
You stand and lean against the counter, exhausted already.
"Told the jackals they couldn't eat 'til they cleaned the garage," he grins proudly.
"Thank you." You hadn't even thought about having to clean the garage.
"You want me to stick around, or just get lost 'til the coast is clear?"
"What?" You look up in confusion.
"I mean…" he gestures to his clothes and flips the end of his hair. He's a little sweaty and his hair's a little tangled, but you don't know what he's getting at… oh.
"You think we're uninviting you?"
"I'm not exactly grandparent material." He forces out an awkward chuckle that makes your heart sink. You step forward and wrap your arms around his middle, pulling him close.
"You're not going anywhere unless you take me with you." You nuzzle your face into his chest, and he gives you a squeeze. "And I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to go anywhere unless I take Mom with me. Wait." You pull back, wide-eyed, and ask, "Can we all just hide out at your place until the old people give up and go away?"
"I wish," your mother grumbles, back from her grocery run. She drops a load of bags on the table, and the boys follow with more.
"Okay," she says, scanning the room. "Kitchen looks good. Garage looks good. Did you find something for dinner?"
"A frozen lasagna from your meal prep era."
"Okay. We have three hours to clean. Then I need you in a dress."
You groan, and Gareth snickers.
"And YOU," she turns to him, "in khakis." That wipes the grin off his face.
"Eddie?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"You are absolutely still invited. But if you want to run and hide, we will not think less of you." He smiles. "Do you own a pair of pants without holes in them?" He nods. "Okay." And then she starts putting groceries away, and that was that.
You catch Eddie's eye, then nod to the pan of now-edible pizza rolls. He picks it up and leads the boys back outside, where they descend on it like locusts, while you tackle the mountain of groceries.
When Eddie returns with the empty pan, he addresses your mother.
"I'm gonna go drop Jeff and Grant off. Are you sure you…" he trails off nervously, hovering near the door.
"Honey." Your mom places her hands on the table, leans forward, and stares into his soul. "I want you here more than I want them here."
He chuckles. " I'll go home and grab some clothes. Do you need me to pick up anything else?"
"Nope, I think we've got everything," she answers. "But I appreciate the offer."
He nods, gives you wink, and leaves to take the nerds home.
Your family whirls through the house like cyclones, dusting and scrubbing and straightening everything in view. Eddie joins in when he returns, which makes things move even faster.
The house is deemed acceptable with an hour to spare. You pop the lasagna into the oven, take rushed showers, and change into clothing acceptable to grandparents.
"Woah," Eddie says when he steps back into your room with dripping hair and a towel around his waist, seeing you in your modest (hideous) dress.
"Shut up."
"You never wear pretty things like that for me," he teases.
"Keep it up, Munson, and you're gonna be feasting on one of these stupid fucking shoulder pads."
He cackles and throws his towel at you. You catch it, and get a delightful idea when he turns around to get dressed.
You wind up the damp towel, and when he bends over to pull his boxers on… SNAP.
He yelps, jumps a foot in the air, and grabs his ass with both hands.
"YOU'RE THE DEVIL!"
You howl with laughter. Was it mean? Yes. Was it funny? Yes. Did he deserve it? Also yes.
"Look what you did to me!" he shrieks, rubbing at a red welt rising on his pale ass.
Your jaw drops.
"Oh fuck, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get you THAT bad." All traces of amusement are gone as you go to him and trace the mark.
"Guess you could always kiss it and make it better," he pouts, sticking his lip out and activating the dreaded Puppy Eyes.
You fall to your knees and plant a trail of light kisses around the raised mark on Eddie Munson's ass. When you look up, he's staring at you with wide eyes, like he hadn't really expected you to do it.
"What? Never had a girl kiss your ass before?"
You both dissolve into a fit of giggles until a knock interrupts.
"Are you decent?"
"Never," you answer together, grinning at each other.
You can hear your mother sigh through the door. You stand, and Eddie hastily continues getting dressed.
"Eddie, I need you to sleep in Gareth's room tonight. He's setting up his sleeping bag for you."
"Okay," he agrees.
"Best behavior."
"Yes, ma'am," Eddie says.
"I wasn't talking to you."
Eddie snorts.
"Yes, Mother," you call, giving him a shove. He loses his balance and falls onto your bed with a grin.
"Alright." She raps her knuckles against the door once more and walks away.
Eddie's lying back on your bed, feet on the floor and hands laced behind his head. He's in a plain white t-shirt and dark, unbuttoned jeans that reveal his plaid boxers… and just a liiittle bit of his happy trail. He smirks when he sees you looking.
"Quit dripping on my bed." You pick up his discarded towel and throw it at him, letting it hit him in the face. He sits up, unbothered, to rub his wet hair with it. At least he didn't shake it out like a dog. (Although you have seen him do that before.)
You give your room a once-over, straightening a few books and smoothing out the blankets on your bed. Eddie stuffs his things into a duffel bag and drops it on the floor of your brother's room, where he'll be sleeping tonight.
The plan had actually been for the three of you to camp out in the living room and watch movies all night, but that would have to wait. Your grandmother would probably pitch a fit about Eddie being allowed to sleep under the same roof as you. You'd love to see her face if she found out you'd slept in the same bed before.
You hear the oven timer ding again; dinner is ready. They'll be here soon. You get up to go set the table, but decide you want just one more minute alone with Eddie before the invasion. You go in for a hug and stand still in the middle of your bedroom, just enjoying the quiet.
"Should I button this?" he mumbles when you pull away, looking down at his flannel shirt and then back at you.
"Up to you. You'll look nice either way."
He bites his lip and pulls his shirt together, fingers fumbling. He gets three buttons done before realizing it's crooked. His face starts to turn red from frustration.
You put your hands on his, then move them to his sides. You calmly unbutton, and then re-button his shirt, straightening out his collar when you finish for good measure.
"Should I tuck it in?"
"Edward." You take his face in your hands. "You look perfect. Stop worrying. It's gonna be fine." You kiss the tip of his nose.
"What if they hate me?" he asks, his big brown eyes boring into your soul.
"Babe…" you begin gently, brushing his hair out of his face. "They will. But that's okay. Because I think they kinda hate me too. Smile, nod, don't mention anything fun or cool, and you'll survive. And next time I get you to myself, I will make this worth your while."
"Really?" he grins.
"Really." You lean in for a kiss… which is interrupted by the sound of a car horn honking twice. You groan. Gareth walks by your door, in his khakis and button-down, and announces: "They're heeere."
You peel yourselves apart. You straighten your stupid dress in the mirror, and Eddie rakes his fingers through his hair.
"Promise you won't stop loving me after you endure this torture?" you ask, reaching for his hand.
"Could it be any worse than the time you made me watch Grease?"
"Are you still pretending you didn't love that movie?"
"I absolutely did not," he lies.
"C'mon, stud, let's get this over with."
The reunion with your grandparents went about as expected. Thankfully, your mother took the brunt of their displeasure.
"Is this a store-bought lasagna?" "No, Mother, I made it from scratch."
"Are you seeing anyone?" "No, Dad." "That's the price of being a working girl, I suppose. Women these days think they can have it all!"
"When's the last time you had this carpet professionally cleaned?" "Last month, Mother."
And then, when your mom was properly worn down, they turned their focus to you.
"What grade are you in now, dear?" "12th." "Oh, you'll graduate this year! Where are you going to college?" "I don't know." "You really should be focusing on that. Can't have any… distractions."
And Gareth.
"I heard you're playing the drums now!" "…yeah." "Are you in a band?" "…yeah." "Well, what kind? Jazz? Symphony?" "…marching?" "That's exciting! And good exercise!"
And Eddie.
"What do your parents do, Edward?" "They're… gone." "What do you mean gone?" "Eddie lives with his uncle," your mother supplied. "He works at the power plant. He's the reason we're not eating in the dark." Your grandmother pursed her lips, but your grandfather nodded his head in approval.
Finally, after the longest dinner in the history of the world, your grandparents decided to turn in.
They retreated to the basement, where the pull-out couch had been made for them - and was probably re-made before they got into it - and you had the upstairs to yourselves again.
Which is when the real work began for everyone else.
Leftovers were put away, dishes were washed, potatoes and carrots were peeled, ingredients were measured, and everything that could be prepped for Wednesday's pre-Thanksgiving meal was prepped. You finished around midnight. Your mother would get up in a few hours to put the turkey in the oven, but the rest of you were off the hook until breakfast.
You kissed Eddie goodnight and went to bed alone.
At nearly five in the morning, the door creaked open and someone entered your bedroom. You cracked an eye open, hoping it was Eddie coming to crawl under the covers with you and steal a snuggle before everyone else woke up. But it was your grandmother, checking to make sure you were alone in your bed. Bitch.
She crept back out, and you glared at the door for half an hour before finally going back to sleep.
The next time you woke, it was because two bodies dropped on either side of you. You kept your eyes closed.
"Wake up, Sleeping Beauty." That one's Eddie.
"Please. Have you ever tried waking her up? She's more like the dragon." Shut up, Gareth.
"Right. Good thing we've got pinned under the covers. She'd probably claw us to shreds."
"Dragon breath is probably the bigger concern right now." You can hear the smirk in Gareth's voice.
"Fuck you both," you grumble. They laugh. "What time is it?"
Eddie looks at his watch. "Almost eight."
"How long you think we can stall before they come get us and drag us into the kitchen for another thrilling conversation over breakfast?"
The three of you sigh, just before your mother peeks her head in.
"Why are you in here? Whatever, I don't care. Get dressed and come eat before she starts in on the 'young people sleeping all day' crap again." She closes the door without waiting for a response.
"Alright, you heard the lady, be gone." You try to stretch, but you don't have much room to move, being pinned beneath your own blankets and all. You lay there, defenseless, until Eddie kisses your cheek and rolls off the bed. Gareth follows.
You grumble your way into another dress you hate, fix your face, and wait in the hallway for them. No way you're going in there alone.
The three of you appear in the kitchen doorway together.
"There they are! I thought they were going to sleep all day!" It's 7:58 on a day when there's no school, you old bat.
"When I was your age, I was awake at 4:30 every morning!" Good for you, gramps.
"Why don't you grab plates and eat in the living room?" Finally, someone speaking sense. Thanks, Mom.
The three of you grab plates and start filling them with sausage, eggs, and silver dollar pancakes.
You look down at the silverware drawer while you retrieve a trio of forks, and when you look up again, your grandmother is staring at you. And then at your plate.
"Remember, dearie: A moment on the lips, forever on the hips!"
Your face flushes. Your blood boils.
"Perhaps you'd like a piece of fruit instead?"
As soon as you're able to move again, you're going to stab her.
"Mother, does this say teaspoon or tablespoon?" your mom asks, holding out a hand-written recipe on an index card. "Go," she mouths when your grandmother turns her attention to the card.
You hurry into the living room and sit on the couch with the boys, staring down at the plate in front of you, still shaking with rage.
Eddie takes the forks and rests his chin on your shoulder. Did he hear it? Oh god, you're going to burst into flames right here.
"Hate to tell you this, but uh…" his voice drops to a whisper. "Your grandma's a real bitch."
You snort. He kisses your cheek and straightens.
"I'll drink to that," Gareth raises his orange juice and takes a swig. He puts his glass down and digs into his breakfast, but you hesitate.
"Stop."
You glance at Eddie. He stabs a piece of his scrambled egg and lifts his fork to your mouth. "You're fucking perfect. And you need fuel to survive today. C'mon. Eat up. Can't have you snapping any little old ladies in half 'cause you're hungry."
You laugh and lean forward to take his offering, then dig into your own plate. Just a few more hours. You can do this.
You let your empty plates sit on the coffee table as you stall, not wanting to go back into the kitchen and remind your grandparents that you're here. You rest your head on Eddie's shoulder, wishing your Lazy Thanksgiving hadn't been derailed.
"What are you just sitting around for when there's work to be done?" Your head snaps up off of Eddie's shoulder when your grandfather enters the room. Busted. The three of you begrudgingly pick up your plates while he settles into an armchair.
"Boys! Tell me about the local team!" he booms.
Oh. Cool. It's just you who needs to be working. You collect the plates without a word and leave the room with mouthed "I'm sorry" to Eddie. He and Gareth look at each other in panic; like they know anything about ANY local team.
"There you are! Did you think this cranberry sauce was going to make itself?"
You think the only person invited to this dinner who actually likes cranberry sauce bought a can of it that's been pushed to the back of the cabinet, but you don't say a word as you drop your breakfast dishes in the sink and fetch the bag of cranberries.
"How long have you been seeing that boy?"
The way she says "that boy" makes you bristle.
"It was a year in September."
"Oh, he didn't waste any time, did he?" You rip open the bag with a little more force than necessary, sending a few berries flying. She tuts from her place at the table, mixing something you wouldn't be eating, as you pick them up.
You take the bag of cranberries to the sink and dump them into a bowl.
"You should be using a strainer for that," she says, after you've already stuck the bowl beneath the faucet. You clench your jaw and start digging for the fucking strainer.
"Do you really think he's the kind of boy you want to be spending so much time with? I'd be ashamed to be seen with him in public. You know, dear," she turns her attention to your mother. "Gareth's getting a little shaggy too. Aren't there any barbers in town?"
This is it. Your last Thanksgiving. You're going to spend the next one in jail. You turn slowly, but before you can face her…
"Don't you have to be at church soon?" You whip your head toward your mother in confusion. Church? You? Has her own mother officially driven her insane?
Her eyes widen and say "get with the program, dummy."
"Oh! Right!" You say cluelessly.
"The kids volunteered to help with the church's Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless," your mother explains to both your grandmother and you. "The youth group is supposed to be at church in a little bit to start cleaning and setting up tables for tomorrow."
"I can't believe I almost forgot," you say, putting the cranberries aside and drying your hands on a towel. "I better go get the boys."
"Yes, you better," your mother nods knowingly. Whatever you were planning to get her for Christmas is no longer enough.
You dart past your grandmother's narrowed eyes and enter the living room. Your grandfather is droning on about defense, and the boys' eyes have glazed over.
"Uh, sorry to interrupt," no you're not, "but we better get going soon, if we're going to get to church on time."
Both boys raise an eyebrow, and you mimic your mother's "get with the program" look.
"Church? Today? While your grandparents are in town?"
He doesn't bother to turn, so you're able to smirk at the back of his head as you remind him, "Well, Grandpa, we didn't know you were coming until the last minute, or else we would've made time for you."
He grunts, not daring to argue further about commitments to a church, and you all disappear to "get ready." AKA reconvene in your bedroom to explain how your heroic mother is allowing you to escape, grab your jackets, and flee.
Two minutes later, Eddie's van leaves your driveway, and you all heave a sigh of relief.
"Where to?" Eddie asks.
"Literally anywhere but here," you answer.
"Think anything's open?"
You run through a list of options in your head before your brother chimes in, "I'm not going out in public dressed like this."
Right. Grandparent Clothes.
"My place?"
Eddie's place.
It's chilly when you walk in. "Sorry," Eddie mumbles, turning the heat on. "Set the heat back before I left."
"It's fine," you smile, pulling him close. "Body heat is better anyway."
"Why's it so cold if I'm in Hell?" Gareth grumbles.
"Would you like to go back home and talk sports with gramps?" Silence. "That's what I thought."
Eddie grabs a stack of blankets, and you all pile onto the couch and cover up. The next several hours are spent watching re-runs of game shows and shouting at contestants on the tiny TV.
This is the kind of Thanksgiving break you'd planned on.
When it begins to approach the two o'clock dinner-time your mom had shouted at your backs as you fled, you turn off the TV and fold the blankets and Eddie turns the heat back down.
Your spirits begin to dampen again as you pull back into your driveway.
"Two hours, tops," you remind them. "They'll be outta here before we know it. Then we can get back to Lazy Thanksgiving."
"Just like the pilgrims intended," Eddie jokes. You grin.
You drag yourselves back into the house. Your grandfather looks like he's spent most of the morning napping, your grandmother looks smug, and your mother looks like she's about to snap.
Your very early Thanksgiving dinner went by without major incident. Forced conversation, food you didn't really like, and your grandma complaining that she could've made it better. Things to be expected.
The food was the same kind of food you'd always had on Thanksgiving, and exactly what you were hoping to avoid this year. The dressing with mysterious chunks in it. Greasy gravy. The controversial casserole that once caused a screaming match between your parents. The pie that two competing aunts once brought on the same year, which made them stop speaking to each other until Easter. The made-from-scratch rolls that your cousins used to mash into little balls and throw at you when the grown-ups weren't looking. The fancy dishes that only came out on special occasions; God help the fool who scraped a metal utensil across it. Police interrogations were less brutal than the year your aunt noticed a crack in her best gravy boat.
And then, the happiest part of the day: their departure. You gave them awkward hugs, wished them a safe trip, and watched them pull out of the driveway. All four people standing in the garage held their breaths until the car was out of sight, and let out a collective sigh of relief.
"Thank GOD!" your mother exclaims. You and Gareth scrub the greasy lipstick marks off your cheeks. Eddie reaches into his pocket and pulls out his pack of cigarettes.
"Gimme one," your mom insists. You haven't seen her smoke since the divorce. But seconds later, she's blowing a puff of smoke and looking more relaxed than she has in the last 24 hours.
You stand in the garage in silence, enjoying being back to a foursome, and thinking about all the leftovers you didn't want.
"Eddie?" your mother asks, slowly blowing out her smoke and gazing into the distance.
"Yeah?" he answers, stubbing out the cigarette he'd burned through at twice her speed.
"If I were to leave a crisp $20 bill on the kitchen table and go take a nap, is there any chance it could turn into something greener by the time I wake up?"
He looks at you. You look at him. All of your eyes eventually land on her.
She glances toward you and scoffs. "Children, please. I went to college in the '60s. Can you make it happen or not?"
"Uh…" he chuckles awkwardly, "Yeah?"
"Good."
"You uh… you want anything specific?"
"I would like to be calm and happy for the rest of the week."
"Okay."
Your eyes dart between them during the strangest conversation you've ever witnessed.
"Okay," she repeats, flicking her cigarette like an expert and walking into the house.
After a moment of silence, you have to ask: "What the fuck just happened?"
"Our mother just bought weed from your boyfriend."
The three of you laugh in disbelief. This is officially the weirdest Thanksgiving ever.
"I gotta cruise by Rick's real quick, wanna ride?"
"Sure… you think he'd want a plate?"
Eddie gives you a strange look.
"We've got plenty of leftovers. And we're making the good shit tomorrow, so there'll be even more. Wayne's getting a heap too."
"Kay."
You're piling food onto a styrofoam plate - well, two, for reinforcement - when the phone rings. Gareth answers, rolls his eyes, and mouths "Dad."
You cover Rick's plate with aluminum foil and hand it to Eddie. "Go on, tell Rick I said hi and Happy Thanksgiving. When you get back, all of the annoying relative shit should be over."
You send him away with a peck and pick up the phone in the hallway to join the conversation with yet another relative you didn't want to talk to. How thoughtful of him, to call the day before Thanksgiving so he could spend the real holiday with his new family.
You were sitting at the kitchen table, looking through Black Friday ads from the newspaper when Eddie returned. He quietly closes the door and plops into the seat across from you.
"Rick's in love with you now."
"Oh yeah?" you grin.
In a pretty decent imitation of his reefer-loving friend, Eddie drawls, "Thanksgiving food on a Wednesday? It's like Christmas came early, man… except it's Thanksgiving. Are those real mashed potatoes? And pie too?! You tell your girl and her mama that I really appreciate this."
You try to muffle your laughter as he plops the requested bag of green on the table, exactly where the $20 had been an hour before.
"Think I should roll those for her?"
You shrug. "I just found out she smokes like an hour ago, don't ask me about her drug preferences."
He contemplates for a second, then pulls the bag toward him and reaches into his pocket for rolling papers.
"You wanna hit the mall Friday morning?" you ask, flipping the brightly colored pages. "Ought to be some decent sales."
"Mhm," he hums, tongue poking out of his mouth, trying not to break his concentration.
"Are you trying to impress my mother with your joint-rolling abilities?"
"Maybe," he grins, finishing another.
Gareth wanders in the kitchen and sits at the table hesitantly, watching Eddie work. He's smoked with you a few times - better to keep an eye on him that let him go off with people you don't trust, you figure - but he's never rolled on his own before.
"You wanna try one?" Eddie asks. Gareth looks to you nervously. He's still not entirely convinced the DEA isn't going to bust down the door every time he touches the stuff. You crook half a smile, and he gets up to sit next to Eddie.
He's more patient here than he is at school. No jocks to unsettle. No reputation to maintain. No need to rule with an iron fist. He wasn't Eddie the Freak or Eddie the DM or Eddie the third-time senior here. His guard was down, and he was just Eddie. You love all the Eddies, but this one's your favorite.
You watch him teach proper rolling techniques out of the corner of your eye while you pretend to browse ads. They'd finished almost half the bag when you hear your mother coming. Eddie slides the rolled joints into the bag and puts it back where he was supposed to.
Gareth grabs the ad on top of the stack of papers and opens it to a random page, blushing crimson when he's greeted by Sears lingerie models. Flip, flip, flip. He becomes very interested in power tools, and you and Eddie try not to make eye contact, because you know you'll laugh.
Your mother enters the kitchen with a yawn and a stretch and spots her loot.
"Well, what do you know, looks like the Cannabis Fairy paid me a visit."
You snort. Eddie tries to hide a smile.
She looks down at the bag, and then at him.
"What, you think an old lady can't roll her own joints?"
"Just trying to save you some time." He smiles and bats his eyelashes. Moron.
"Riiiight," she says, pulling on her coat and picking up the bag. She steps into the garage… and leaves the door open. You look from it to Eddie, until she pokes her head back in. "Are you coming, or are you still pretending to be good kids?"
The three of you exchange glances, rooted in place until finally you shrug and get up. The boys follow. You grab jackets and step down into the garage.
She's sitting in a lawn chair, arms crossed like she's waiting to bust you for breaking curfew… with a lit joint in her hand.
"Et tu, Gareth?" she sighs when he steps down and closes the door.
"Uh… peer pressure?"
Everyone laughs.
You and Eddie drag the battered loveseat that the previous owners abandoned closer, and drop into it. Gareth unfolds another lawn chair and sits uneasily.
And that was how you found yourself passing around illegal substances in your garage, on the eve of Thanksgiving, with your boyfriend, little brother… and your mother.
You melt into Eddie once you begin to feel the effects. You lean your head on his shoulder and wish you'd thought to bring blankets out. His hand rests on your leg, radiating warmth into your skin, and you wish you were small enough so that you could fit your whole body in his hand. He could just carry you around and keep you in his pocket and let you attack people who irritated him. They'd never know what bit them. (You. You'd be what bit them.)
"Alright, what'd we miss?" Gareth asks.
"Let's see…" your mother ponders. "I'm a terrible mother who's raising disrespectful delinquents. My marriage failed because I emasculated my perfect bread-winning husband by insisting on working outside the home. He is blameless. The new church I selected must not be much of a church, to let in such shaggy youths. My son will become a devil-worshipping drug addict. My daughter will become impregnated before she graduates because I let that boy sleep in my house. Good news though: If you get knocked up, they probably won't come down for graduation, because they'll die of shame. Oh, and my turkey was dry."
You take a moment to process all this. Where do you even start?
"Dude…" Gareth begins. "Grandma's a cunt."
After a moment of stunned silence, your mother starts to laugh. And then you all join in. Minutes later, tears are streaming down your face, and you still can't stop laughing. You're clinging to Eddie, shaking together, finally feeling warm and happy and comfortable after a day of hell.
"Oh, man," your mom finally gets out, wiping the tears from her eyes. "What do you say we go finish up their leftovers so we can start over tomorrow?"
"That is the best idea in the history of Earth," Gareth says with genuine awe. Which sets you and Eddie off again. Your mom and Gareth go inside, and you and Eddie eventually pull yourselves together and off the loveseat.
Your mom has decided not to bother with individual plates; she's thrown all the grandparent-specific leftovers onto a glass pan and stuck it in the oven to reheat. You gather around the table and wait. When it comes out, you each grab a fork and go to town.
That's one way to get rid of leftovers you don't want.
"I'm going to bed," your mother finally says, getting up with a stretch. "I cooked all day today. Tomorrow's your problem. Wake me up when dinner's ready."
"Kay," you mumble through the last mouthful of the casserole you weren't generally fond of, but tonight found pretty good.
You left the dish in the sink and retreated to the living room to finish off the night with a movie.
"Ugh," Eddie groans, leaning back into the couch and sticking out his belly. "Why did you make me eat so much?"
"Yeah, that was definitely my doing," you laugh, pulling a blanket across your lap. Gareth puts in a tape and settles into his favorite spot on the floor, wrapped up in a blanket cocoon.
"I can't even breathe," Eddie whines.
You roll your eyes, reach over, and pop the button on his jeans. He falls silent as the previews begin, but you can feel him staring at you.
"What?" you finally ask, turning your head when you can't stand it anymore.
"Will you marry me?"
"What?"
"That was like the hottest thing anyone's ever done to me."
A laugh escapes you. "You are such a dweeb."
"But you love me," he grins.
"…yeah, I guess," you sigh, pretending to be defeated.
His jaw drops in mock offense.
"You two are gonna make me puke up all that old person food if you keep on," Gareth chimes in from across the room.
You laugh and snuggle into Eddie's side, pulling the blanket over both of you.
"Love you," you whisper.
"Lots?"
"Lots and lots," you confirm, nuzzling your cheek into his shoulder.
You woke when the screen turned to static, shook the boys awake, and dragged your corpses to bed.
"Best Thanksgiving ever," Eddie mumbled when you crawled under the covers beside him.
"Babe?"
"Hm?"
"That was Grandparent Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is Lazy Thanksgiving. It ain't over 'til the last piece of turkey's gone."
He chuckles. "So what exactly are we doing tomorrow?"
"We'll make the food, since Mom did everything yesterday. Turkey's done, so we just need sides. It'll be easy, pretty much everything has instructions on the box. There's rolls and a pie hiding in a cooler in the garage. So we'll make food, eat food, lay in front of the TV and watch old Thanksgiving specials I recorded and whine about how much food we ate… until it's time to eat more food."
"I think Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday."
"Mine too, now." You smile a sleepy smile, not wanting to say goodnight and go to sleep just yet. "Still wanna hit Starcourt Friday morning? Lots of stuff on sale. If we strike out, we can always go back to your place… if you don't mind being alone with me for a little while… I'm sure we could find something to do…"
"You know, Black Friday's sounding pretty good too."
You chuckle and lean in for a kiss.
"I'm so happy you're here with me," you breathe.
"I'm happy you wanted me here," he says, giving you another kiss.
"Sorry about the grandparents," you wince.
"It's alright… we'll have it at our place next year." Your heart soars at the thought of getting to be like this with him every night. "And we won't tell them where we live."
You laugh and snuggle closer. "Sounds good to me, Eds."
He sighs happily and kisses your forehead, and you both drift to sleep in a comfortable silence.
You woke up so warm and comfortable, you almost didn't want to get out of bed, even though it's nearly eleven.
But today is Lazy Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving you've always dreamed of. No unwanted guests. No hard labor. No stuffy clothes. You turn over to look at the clock, and Eddie pounces.
"Where you think you're goin'?" he mumbles into the back of your neck, holding you in place with an arm around your waist.
"Food," you yawn.
"This is all I wanna eat." He nibbles at the back of your neck, and you shrink away from him with a laugh.
"Not on the menu today, I'm afraid."
"Hmph." He lets you go and flops onto his back. You turn to look at him. Arms crossed. Pouty. Hair a mess. Perfect.
You slide closer and sling a leg over his. You put your arm across his middle and rest your head in the crook of his neck. He doesn't budge.
"Tomorrow, however…" you whisper with a soft kiss to his neck. He finally uncrosses his arms to run a hand up your thigh.
"Tell me more."
"Hmmm…" you hum, nuzzling into him. You can feel him melt. "Nope." You nip at his neck and haul yourself out of bed. He growls, but you're already out of the room before he makes a move.
Your mom is drinking coffee and watching the parade in the living room. "You sure you've got this?" she asks.
"We got this," you confirm. "We'll wake you up when it's ready."
"Like anyone could sleep through this thrilling display!" she says with mock-offense, gesturing to a high school marching band. You smile and return to the kitchen, hoping she enjoys her first uninterrupted parade in years.
Both boys wander into the kitchen a few minutes later, while you're pulling things from the cabinets and moving them to the table.
"Eddie, you're on stuffing. Gareth, you've got mashed potatoes."
"And what about you, Your Highness?" Gareth grumbles.
"Everything else, Prince Ass."
Eddie snorts and picks up one of the four boxes of Stove Top to read the instructions. He looks at you apprehensively.
"I have faith in you." He smirks and reads the box again.
"How many potatoes?" Gareth asks, skimming the instructions. Potato flakes from a flimsy cardboard box. If that didn't finish your grandmother off, the packets of gravy mix would.
"A buttload."
"That's not on the box."
"Then whatever the biggest batch is."
"Kay," he shrugs, reaching for the measuring cup you've left in the middle of the table.
The three of you work together in a shockingly harmonious manner. Pots on the stove, dishes in the oven, bowls in and out of the microwave, and nearly an hour later, the table is as set as it's gonna be. No serving dishes saved for special occasions; everything remains on the stove and counter, in whatever vessel it was cooked in. You were all fully capable of getting up and fixing your own plates.
And that's exactly what you did.
"Are we gonna hold hands and say what we're thankful for?" your mom teases.
"I'm thankful that Grandma and Grandpa are gone," Gareth says quickly, causing a laugh to spread around the table.
Screw it. "I'm thankful that all my favorite people are here."
"Awww," Gareth mocks, causing you and Eddie to both kick him under the table. You smirk at each other when he hisses.
"I'm thankful for the invite," Eddie smiles, making your heart soften.
"And I'm thankful for brown-and-serve rolls," your mom says, ripping hers open and slathering it with butter. "Okay, you little dorks, raise a roll."
You each pick up your roll and raise it, as instructed.
"To Lazy Thanksgiving!"
"To Lazy Thanksgiving!" you all echo, then take a bite out of your perfectly adequate rolls that took 8 minutes to prepare. (A great improvement from the traditional 4-hour ordeal.)
Lazy Thanksgiving really was the holiday you'd always dreamed of.

OK, my thoughts about the final season of RVB! If you haven't seen it yet, warning for SPOILERS!
In general, I thought it was alright. The good parts were GOOD, but it felt kind of rushed, and a few things were disappointing. Certain parts I wish had been different, but I'm glad it exists. Watching it with lots of cool people made it fun, and it had a decent enough ending for what it was... though, after so many years, so many characters, just so MUCH of a story, I wish things had been a little MORE. It was a shame it was so short and rushed. I'm still glad the people who worked on it got it done, and we were all able to see it.
So. Actual thoughts on different bits...
I'm somebody who enjoys seasons 15-16-17, so while it will always be real in my heart, if they HAD to do a ret-con, having a spoof with a Retro Convention was VERY funny. Kai would absolutely milk her relation to Grif for some attention. I thought it was weird that Dylan was there, but she was a convention host? I feel like it would have made more sense for her to be one of the people asking questions about where the Reds and Blues went (y'know, like she ACTUALLY DID in 15). Oh well.
Things were very rushed... if this had been a more full season (or, in my perfect world, a story split into 2, so we get 19 and 20 out of it. I'm sorry, it just bugs my brain when something ends on a 9 instead of a 10. that's a ME problem), there could have been more of a Big Reveal about Tucker being the Meta. HOWEVER, since things were very condensed, I can appreciate how amusing it is to have Epsilon info-dump the plot to every body.
I did get a chuckle out of Epsilon being a "recorded prediction program" and not the true AI, and he decided to just be an obnoxious little youtuber. Like, that was so awful, it was AWESOME. It is also something that would have made Alpha Church super ticked off, which is very fitting. Good job Epsilon, 10 out of 10~
I was so happy to see Sheila and Lopez! Mechanical love lives on. It was a bit meh seeing the Reds act like they don't care about Caboose (we've been there, done that), but some of the funny bits that followed and Simmons getting Sarge interested by bribing him with Blue Defeat saved it (listen, these guys have been insisting they hate each other for 2 decades, but they can literally not live without each other. let them just admit they are ALL FRIENDS). Grif ranting was excellent.
No Donut is some major BS! Look, I get it, we stole the spot-light in 16-17, he was the time-god's most specialest pink princess and a harbinger of death, it can be intimidating to include something so powerful after trying to erase all that from existence... but come on. With all the important call-backs and connections 19 made with previous seasons, AND having the ending be in Blood Gulch? DONUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE AND HE SHOULD HAVE THROWN THE AI UNIT. No, I mean it, imagine the thing gets knocked really far away, maybe from an explosion, and Donut throws it clear across the canyon, because you KNOW he can! This time instead of it being a grenade that kills Tex, she catches the unit, tra-la-la, it all comes together. I'm sorry, Simmons doing the cool sports-ball throw was fun, but... Donut. DONUT!
Alright, moving on. It felt a little awkward that Wash is yet again hurt, and nobody is there with him? Oh wait, Doc is there, except no he isn't. Listen. Listen. I love plural Wash. I also love the idea of him genuinely having an emotional connection with Doc, because it DOES make sense; when Wash kid-napped him, Doc just kept making all his sarcastic little comments the whole time, and it tricked Wash into having real conversations with him. I honestly think that if Doc hadn't been with them, Wash wouldn't have been so open to the idea of finally settling down after his Villain Moment. They also both have a lot in common with AI incidents, and again, Villain Moments. I'm just annoyed that the Pacifist and the Original Bad Boy evidently died. Off screen. Give me back my purple boys. If we need to have Wash Not Be Around for a while, have him and Carolina go off to track down Hargrove or something. Maybe they went to two different locations, and Wash gets back to the others first, so we still get Carolina to the rescue.
Anyway, the plot! There was a lot of funny bits when it came to looking for Tucker, getting into the ship with the "video call security", and Niner being there! Hooray! I am... a little disappointed about WHY and HOW Tucker is a "villain". Obviously, I can't picture him being legit EVIL, but the idea that he's just the physical puppet being controlled by the AI isn't very... good. I understand how it was explained, sure, but still. I know I keep rambling about my own thoughts for alternate scenarios, but I can't help it! I just don't like when Sigma (or Omega) are just plain EVIL, for no reason. They've always been more complicated than that (the Meta wanted to be HUMAN, remember. and Omega even told Epsilon "I'll be here if you need me". they are definitely different kinds of harsh and intense, but they aren't the Murder AI or the Evil AI). I don't like that Tucker is being tortured into doing what they say... a more subtle manipulation, the Fragments not only convincing Tucker but also themselves that they NEED to do all this to get Alpha back, is very intriguing. After Epsilon Deconstructed, the Fragments lost their Memories. They just know they aren't complete. Tucker just knows he wants to talk to his best friend again.
If it needs another push to make it more insidious, I'd buy that Meta suit being a trap to begin with; Hargrove probably had that thing rigged to make it into a trap for anybody that wore it, so they'd have this subliminal inclination to collect all the AI, and kill anybody in their way. Something-something forgetting what your motives are, and only caring about the GOAL. Tucker and the Fragments ALL need to remember who they are and why they want the Alpha; it isn't about being a weapon. If there was more of a fake-out/reveal of Tucker being the Meta, maybe with a false hint of it being Felix with the orange/black colors, a sign that Tucker is still in there would be him getting close to killing everybody... but he backs off each time.
Speaking of killing... Sarge. Oh, Sarge. I will admit that, just from a thematic point of view, yes- it works to have a Sarge death. I don't care for it being Tucker that did it, or that Donut isn't there to share the moment as well. Matt Hullum acted the HECK out of that scene, though. In fact, the whole bit of Sarge running back to save Caboose, and trapping Tucker with a bubble shield, was AWESOME. I didn't want Sarge to die... but he went out wearing his red armor, and told Grif and Simmons he cared about them. It was sad, but it was well done. In my perfect world, we just THINK he died, but then at the end it is revealed he's still alive! How? Well, Doc gave him CPR! Doc isn't dead either, that is integral you see. I'm not sure of Sarge going "Hurgh Bleh" would have been better or WORSE. Well, heck. I wish he wasn't dead, but as much as I hate it, I... didn't totally hate it?
I kind of wish Simmons had more of a break-down over it. I wanna see him lose his temper. OR, he acts so quiet and cold, it is just UNNERVING. Then Grif helps snap him out of it. Let's be real, those two are so co-dependant, it ain't even funny. I appreciate Simmons telling Grif he is officially free to leave, and the conversation of "Come with me" leading to Simmons saying he wants to see this through, and Grif agreeing to come along was good. Simmons has aspired to be an impressive soldier from the beginning, and Grif has just wanted to be DONE. In the end, they meet in the middle.
I may be a sappy Grimmons person, but I can say, as objectively as possible, they should NOT be separated at the end. Grif and Simmons are literally the introduction to the series. They were the first two characters we see, they have been side by side almost CONSTANTLY, they are always bickering but they are also each other's favorite person. I don't even mean in a shippy way, it is just a fact. To have them say good-bye and just leave each other is honestly out of character (we saw that before, remember, in 15; Grif got so guilty about it, Simmons came to the realization that opposites attract, and they finally had to admit they missed each other. it was a WHOLE THING). I think it would have worked if, after telling Grif he's free to leave at the end, Simmons waits minute, then starts following him-
Grif; What are you doing?
Simmons; Coming with you. What the hell else would I do?
And that is that, wherever they do, they're together. Also, Kai shows up and HUGS HER BRO, come on, please!
Now, as a sappy Grimmons person, they should have just gone through with it. It has been more than 20 years. Seriously. We all know it. People who don't even care about the ship know it. Just commit to the freaking bit. Stop being cowards. Let them hold hands, or hug, or gently bump the visor of their helmets together, SOMETHING. Show them taking a walk on the beach together, all lovey-dovey. We deserve some emotional satisfaction after a 2 decade queer-bait slow-burn. JUST DO IT.
Sigh... OK, that is out of my system.
My absolute FAVORITE thing in 19 was Tex. She was so freaking PERFECT. I love Caboose telling the unit a story, his way of bringing her back, because that was how he talked to Epsilon. It was so sweet. When they asked Caboose why he brought her back instead of Church, he told them- "Because I wanted to win". Listen, Caboose LOVES Church, but he knows what is up. It was hilarious to see her go through the teleporter to get her black armor back. I absolutely ADORED her saying she's NOT a "failure" anymore, because she's not just based on the Director's memories of losing his wife, she's also got the memories of the guys who REMEMBER HER KICKING THEIR ASSES. 100 percent, Tex return was the best. Her reuniting with Church was also very sweet... the only thing I would have liked more would be the other Fragments showing up in there, so they can all be together (and Church gives Theta a hug; he doesn't even need his memories yet, he just knows he loves Theta).
I didn't care much for deleting the Fragments at the end, but I get the "reasoning". Like, sure. Fine. In my perfect world, Caboose gives the unit to Carolina, so someday, when they're all "ready to wake up again", she can see her family. Wash taking the fall to alert Carolina was both kinda wonky, but also very funny, and hey- it got her there! Again, I don't know why she wasn't there with Wash from the beginning. Also, just. A few characters being dead, and most of the others splitting up at the end... nah. They all need to live together and be friends and be happy and be OK! Like, come on. They've had a lot of "endings" in this series that were bitter-sweet, or kind of sad. I know life doesn't always have a happily ever after... but just once, give them that.
OH, and ANOTHER THING; if things had been just slightly different, if both the Fragments and Tucker sort of "forgot" who they are, the way to remind Tucker should have been JUNIOR. Heck, maybe Carolina was off finding Tucker's kid, and when they come back Junior gets his dad to remember who he really is... but the suit is still controlling him, forcing him to fight. I just want a happy Tucker family reunion. Give that kid his daddy back. Even if Junior isn't there for the big conflict, he should have shown up at the end, with Tucker promising they won't be separated again.
Well, that sure was a lot! The final season was a lot, in a short amount of time! Again, I wish certain things were different, but I'm happy I could see it. Even after everything, all the good and bad parts, I know that it still isn't "the end". I've got a lot of ideas for stories, and so do many other fans out there. I know people are going to keep sharing their thoughts, creating their art, telling their stories... because a universe without stories? That's just empty space.
Bow-chicka-Bye Now!

i feel that online neurodivergent circles dont talk nearly enough about the experience of being people's charity project. i call it that for lack of a better term - it happens a lot including with other disabled people, and it's that thing where NT/able-bodied people around you hang out with you out of pity, or a sense of self-importance ("look how kind-hearted i am, hanging out with someone who has a disability/is seen as a weirdo by most people!")
as an autistic person who wasn't even *called* autistic for a good few years (my parents insisted on the term aspie and not autistic, and i had a bit of a late diagnosis), i had this happen to me all the time in middle school. and these pity-fueled relationships never lasted. they're not born from friendship, they're born from a need to be charitable. "that weird kid will be happy and i'll be looked favourably at for being so brave to hang out with them! win-win!"
since nothing ever lasted for me i started, naturally, to think i was the problem. i was 12, people told me i was weird and annoying before walking out on me, i thought i was fated to be alone. (for an example, once i missed a social cue pretty badly, and it weirded one of those charitable NT girls out so much she sent me a twitter message telling me to stop hanging out, apologised, and blocked me, planning to give me no closure before i went and asked what the hell happened)
it brought me a great deal of other problems but i'm already being too oversharey. the point is: because i was stuck in this cycle of NT kid pities me cuz i'm alone -> starts to hang out with me -> realises i'm a handful -> leaves, i was thinking woah. i kinda suck, right?
but of course i didn't suck! i found that out in high school - i found an actual friend group that took me in and invited me to parties. i remember once in 11th grade, at one of these parties, i asked the "leader" of that group, of sorts, why the hell i was still kept around. like, everyone had walked out on me before, what's the deal? haven't you gotten all your brownie points from hanging out with the autist? ain't you tired of how weird i am yet?
i got a simple answer.
"i keep you around because i like you, that's it."
that was a first for me!
looking back i realise i never was invited to any parties by the people who pitied me. i wasn't *that* kind of friend. maybe i wasn't even a friend. but these guys that took me in, they actually hung out with me! we went to parties, we bought trinkets at the mall, they sent me best wishes in my graduation, the mom of one of them gave me a recipe for her gingerbread cake because i'd loved it so much! i still talk to a good amount of them even though most of us are in college now, and the closest two attended my 20th birthday party :-)
i dunno what the bottom line is here, honestly, and this whole thing has been sitting in my drafts for a while. maybe i thought it was too personal. it is, but maybe i thought i'd give some insight to whatever NT people that access this blog (i do not expect there to be many, but hi) into what building a strong relationship with ND or otherwise disabled people entails. we don't want your pity. we've gotten enough of that for a lifetime, and it's dehumanising to a point we become little toys for people who know they can just stop hanging out if we're too off-putting.
when you treat someone like a person, they're happy... who knew?

It was almost over. She reminded herself of that at least ten times a day. Her back was in agony, it hurt to inhale after eating and if she walked for too long or stood too fast she was so woozy she almost toppled over. Her impotence only worsened her mood. People were quick to help her wherever she went here in the hospital, but Maya didn't like strange hands. She hated that people pet her as she squeezed by. She knew they were only trying to reassure her of her space and make sure she was steady, but even still, she now found herself walking with Jax just so others might steer clear.
"Do we have to go back down this hall, we've got to have lapped it at least ten times by now," He groaned, earning a scowl from her as she paused to catch her breath. He stalled in time with her, elbow out in case she would stumble again. It might have been chivalrous if it had been Liam, but the action from Jax only made her tilt her head stubbornly, choosing to lean against the wall instead. "And you look about ready to phone it in." She wrinkled her nose at him disapprovingly, her eyes rolling of their own accord.
"Oh I'm Jax, I got comped hundreds of thousands of dollars to run around after a ball but I can't walk for half an hour because my little feet-ies hurt," She sneered, mimicking his gravelly voice crudely. She'd expected him to bite, instead, he just squinted at her with an irritated brow.
"God you're annoying," He sighed, taking a regulatory breath. On another day or had they been a little closer to her room, maybe she'd have poked the bear once more but the thought of having to waddle back with this many people between her and her destination was a hard pass. If one more rogue hand touched her stomach, they'd have another amputation rostered in on short notice.
"Yeah well, you'll be rid of me soon," She shrugged nonchalantly. It didn't bother her. Not at all. She looked away from his face hastily and tried to escape the fear of seeing it plastered before her for all her foreseeable days in a small carbon copy. "You held up your end of the deal, almost home free now." He looked uncomfortable at her words, mulling them over to feel for any barbs of accusation. There were none, Jax was free to do as he pleased. That was the promise.
Without worrying about what a fight could mean for a little growing body inside her, Maya would no longer have to be at the mercy of others soon. She could protect herself. It was only fair then, to pull her clawed grasp off of Jax. You can't force a father's love. Or maybe she couldn't. Trying to force him in any direction was about as useful as attempting to direct a car while hanging onto the rear bumper. She'd gone a few too many miles and had only an asphalt burn to show for it. It was time to let go.
"You gonna miss me?" He challenged, not quite playful but certainly unserious. Maya felt the mood sour further with the silence that grew in the divide between his question and its answer. She pushed the flats of her palms against the wall behind her until she found her feet fully, neglecting his ever-present arm. Despite her insistence otherwise, Jax wasn't an idiot. He didn't question that she began to walk back towards her room rather than the hall they'd just been pacing.
"After all the stupid shit I've seen you do?" She deflected, keeping her eyes forward listlessly. Maya wrangled that little asshole in her head responsible for her expression and managed a small teasing grin to alleviate her own tension as much as his. "And of course, you'll miss me." She ribbed back sarcastically. She didn't ask, not even for the sake of the game.
"I'm really gonna miss you... picking fights?" He posed questioningly, presumably trying to think of a single thing he might remember about her a year from now. "And me. You know, falling for it. And then screaming that I'm right," He added. It was like a dog dropping a ball at your feet, Maya could tell how badly he wanted her to pick it up and toss something back to save him from the sincerity.
"You should keep it up," She shrugged, tripping up on her stupid fucking bed slipper. His hand grabbed her arm thoughtlessly, keeping her upright before she shrugged him off with a scowl of only barely faux disgust.
"Keep what up?" He grunted, confused.
"The screaming that you're right. It's bound to happen one of these days, you don't wanna miss it."

Another eventful day
Maybe it was too humid, maybe Lily pulled a muscle but she couldn't use her front leg despite me massaging it which usually helps then, sat down on a bench holding her on her back and sis pulling out all the burrs we could find. She was just sore I guess, she's fine now. Anyway sis insisted on carrying her home even though she's more disabled than the dog. There was no argument she'd accept, nor would she wait for me to come back with a big bag. I ended up hurting my shoulder from holding Lily, wrangling her into a bag that broke then carrying sis' rucksack. I'm still annoyed she insisted on potentially injuring herself and that she's someone I just cannot negotiate with. We've always clashed and I hoped we'd get better at meeting eachother in the middle. She is so stubborn, I admire it and hate it.
But we got home safe and a few hours sis goes hey so shall we just take Talia and only go up the road 800m to see the phone box library. I go okay yeah I can swing that with a hat for the heat (it's a rare low temp day today)
And as we're going out the door plans change to hunt down a car boot (vide grenier). We arrive at the location which is further than I've been before (!!) and there are only tourists - we got the wrong day! So I'm more than ready to go home, can feel the ache under my ear that says a migraine is nigh.
Then I hear sis exclaim a name and it's one of our old next door (literal shared walls) appt neighbours from the previous place in this town [before the landlord got stupidly greedy and went at least five years without revenue hahaha. I'm still bitter about the non handicap accessible switcheroo place we had to take and remove black mold abd embedded soot ourselves. As much as I love the people in this building, it's not even safe for the able-bodied older ladies who live here.]
Neighbour S is second eldest of the four P boys,
we managed to get youngest K glasses which helped a ton, then into special needs school (boarding to be away from family drama) then an apprentiship and he's thriving as a old people's home entertainment and exercise guy. Getting and giving lots of love.
Second youngest kid A we managed to get special school because he's smart but can't stay away from fights in the hopes that more attention and some therapy would get him back in track. He was the first to go to jail for organising a group beating of a disabled man as a teen. He's out and usually gets jobs well, he's got sociopathic tendancies. We're not sure when it started but he started enjoying bullying and never grew out of it. A bully dad, two bully brothers and possibly some very mild head traumas. It's hard to tell but he's beyond reach and we found out today he's living in town.
Second eldest S was a good kid who's generally chill but his deep seated anger causes him to do stupid things and self sabotage. Like he missed a parole hearing and ended back serving a full sentence because he forgot, too busy having a massive fistfight with the eldest D.
D needed help focusing at school and drama from his dad tended to derail him. Generally very sweet guy despite it all. He went into construction and has been with a series of older women for whom he childminds as well as being the boytoy. He's been with the current one 6 years so many it's finally stable.
So we meet S, and as we're catching up I realise I'm feeling uncomfortable about him, it's not that he's been in and out of jail quite a bit for petty stuff that adds up. I know that's not really ever bothered me, it's not that he's just adopted a puppy when he hasn't sorted his taxes or healthcare yet and will probably be employed by the time the dog is 9 months and ready to destroy the house. Something was holding me back from fully feeling friendly while still acting friendly and in some ways very happy to see our messed up sort of cousins that you sort of become by being the two weird loud families in the building.
Afterwards, Sis and I sat on a bench exhausted from shirt walk but lots of conversation and i ask how she's handling things, the references to who she was when she was more able bodied 20 years ago and well just physical exertion and she has a lot to process, she's double her weight from back then, he's stagnated more than she has even though she's been extremely ill for twenty years. We've both just started walking to try and fix knee problems for her and back atrophy for me.
Anyway she drops "I'm not sure I can fake being chummy with him again, it's hard to ignore he became a wife beater". Yep that feeling was disgust and still some disbelief that he sunk so low, started taking his anger out and starting fights then escalated.
S married his high-school sweetheart, who we also knew, a lovely young woman with an eating disorder and risk seeking like she wanted to be pushed away. She's a care assistant now, their daughter is 14 and lives across the road from us with her grandma for parts of the year.
No we can't be buds. That was a line you don't cross. She'd always had his back.
Kicking myself for not remembering despite my brain going alert alert.
Oh well. He did take full responsibility for the physical violence, accepted the divorce and custody, is avoiding alcohol and is allowed to see his first daughter (the one across the road), seems like he's trying to get this good stint to stick. Hope he can for that 14 year old.
Seeing someone as stuck as we are twenty years later with no chronic illness explanation just neglectful emotionally messy parents was a *trip* for sis and I.
Lots to think about. And Lily needs joint medicine again.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"Pleeaasse, Wan" You pouted once again. You had been begging Wanda for the favour for an hour now; her stubborness was proving hard to overcome.
"I'm busy." Wanda said, her accent strong as she walked around her appartment to collect things for her next mission.
"But will you be busy on the 10th?" You asked from the couch where you watched her disappear into various rooms as she talked.
"I thought you said it was a few days." Wanda quipped, seemingly only giving you half her attention.
"It is." You confirmed with some hope.
"So I'd need to clear my schedule for more than just the 10th." You huffed and rested your head on the back of couch.
"Yes you would. I'm sure Natasha can manage without you for a few days."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that." She muttered.
"Please, Wan." You tried. "I need a win." Wanda stopped by the kitchen counter and gave you a long, considering look. You had long given up on your puppy dog eyes and instead copied her expression as you chewed on your bottom lip.
"I'll think about it." Wanda finally said before grabbing something from the cupboard. It was the best response you had gotten all night and you knew you wouldn't get anything more. So you accepted it and hoped for the best.
Your parents had invited you to their cabin for a few days just like they did every year. It was a beautiful place. You could spend your whole visit in the forest along the back. Or swimming in the clear lake that was a short walk away. The cabin itself was the cosiest place you had ever been and had been where some of your best memories had happened as a kid.
As you got older things changed. Being around your family, especially your parents, wasn't as enjoyable. They had high expectations for their children, expectations that your siblings had met without a problem but ones that you had struggled with. You enjoyed your life. You had the kind of relationships you had always hoped for, you loved your job and you had the perfect balance of the two. But you could never shake the feeling that you had failed.
Your brother was a surgeon who always told you all stories of the lives he saved and the close calls he had swooped in to save people from. One of your sisters was some hot shot lawyer who had done great things like help people wrongly convicted but still put dangerous people back on the street. And your other sister was the CEO of an energy company that you never quite understood. They even all had equally successful partners who loved to talk about themselves as much as your siblings did. You didn't have any of that. But you did have Wanda.
Knowing the Avengers was the only thing about you your family took interest in. They were always subtly hinting at wanting to meet your friends. But you knew the Avengers had to endure enough fan service and didn't want to push your family onto them, especially with how annoying they all were.
However as your family's unrealistic expectations reached their all time high you were sure you wouldn't be able to handle another trip with them without a win, and you were far too petty to take the moral high ground and just not go. Not to mention that was a huge part of you that was dying to see what the Wanda girlfriend experience would entail. Yep, that was what you were asking of Wanda. To pretend to be your partner for the duration of the trip.
You knew it wasn't a smart choice. That if Wanda agreed your crush on her could get out of hand. You knew you would end up getting too caught up in the act. You could have, no - should have - asked Natasha or Yelena or even Carol if she was around. But your family knew you were the closest with Wanda and she would be the one it felt the most natural with, and the most believable. At least, that was what you told Wanda.
"When are you going?" You asked, changing the subject in hopes that Wanda wouldn't suddenly conclude she didn't want to do it (then you really would have to ask one of the others).
"Tomorrow." She answered, keeping her focused tone.
"When will you be back?" You attempted to keep the concern out of your voice but the glance the redhead gave you told you you hadn't done a good job.
"The day after." She said, softer this time. You nodded as you looked down at your lap and tried not to think about everything that could possibly go wrong on her mission.
"Be safe." Wanda strolled over to you and placed her hand gently ontop of yours and gave it a quick squeeze.
"Always."
*
"Got any plans Saturday night?" Natasha smirked knowingly at her friend as they preped for their mission.
"No." Wanda replied as she adjusted her earpiece.
"Nothing with y/n then?" Nat asked, partly genuinely but mostly knowing Wanda would still say no.
"Nope." She said again, biting the inside of her cheek in consideration before speaking again. "Not this Saturday."
Natasha raised an eyebrow in surprise and interest. Wanda rarely made any kind of special plans with you as you would always hang out casual and it was never anything fancy or different. She had always wanted to though.
"Plans for another time?" Nat continued as she double checked her pack.
"Maybe, I'm still thinking about it." The redhead turned fully to her friend at her words, confused at why Wanda was hesitant to spend time with you. "She wants me to go to the cabin with her and her family." Nat had heard all about the infamous cabin and your family.
"That sounds fun." Nat nodded. The cabin sounded fun. Your family did not.
"As her girlfriend." Nat's eyes widened excitedly but before she could speak Wanda clarified. "Her pretend girlfriend."
Nat paused and looked as though she was going to speak for several seconds until she stuck to just giving a confused look.
"Yeah." Wanda sighed. "Thinks it would seem impressive." Wanda had tried not to be hurt over that. She knew you weren't just friends with her to show her off to people, because you never did. But it hurt her to think the only time you could see her in a romantic way was when you were pretending.
"Well," Nat muttered as she adjusted the zip along the front of her catsuit. "Fake it till you make it." It was Wanda's turn to give Nat a questioning look. "Maybe it'll be an eye opener for her."
"You think I should do it?" She asked, fully open to hearing and accepting her friend and mentor's advice in that area.
"Definelty." Nat confirmed. She wasn't sure about it for the reasons she said though. Wanda's crush on you was obvious to everyone except you, just as it was vice versa.
*
You had been overjoyed when Wanda told you she would come with you to the cabin and play along as your girlfriend. She had told you when she came back from her mission, in fact it was the first thing she said after she had let herself into your appartment. It was never really brought up after that, but you couldn't deny you were incredibly anxious on the week leading up to the visit.
On the drive up to the cabin you and Wanda stayed in a comfortable silence most of the time, clearly both lost in thought. You had the radio on for background noise more than anything else, but you would occasionally lightly tap the steering wheel if there was a tune you recognised, oblivious to Wanda's acknowledging smiles.
"So what's the plan?" Wanda asked as she looked at you expectantly. Right, of course the Avenger wanted a strategy.
"Keep things simple, I guess. They know how we met already so we can just say at some point we took things a step further than friendship." Wanda didn't seem convinced at the simplicity of that. "Look they're not going to want to hear about us, not much at least. They prefer the sound of their own voices, they'll be trying to impress you is all."
"Impress me?" Wanda asked.
"Yeah, hope you warm up to them so one day they can invite you to their snobby parties." Wanda chuckled her heart warming laugh as she glanced out of the window, knowing there was a lot of truth to what you said.
"And what are those like?" She enquired curiously.
"I wouldn't know, I've never been invited." You said simply. You had gotten over that a long time ago, gotten used to being forgotten. Wanda clearly hadn't though.
"It will be an honour to turn them down." Wanda said. You shook your head and smiled at her. That did sound pretty nice.
When the cabin came into sight between the trees your nerves spiked. You figited in your seat and bit your lip when you saw some of your family gathered outside, their attention instantly on you. You shot Wanda a quick smile which she returned before you got out of the car.
"Y/n! So nice of you to come." You mum said as her eyes flickered to Wanda more than you. She opened her arms for the shortiest hug in human history before turning to Wanda. "You must be Wanda, we've heard so much." You mum insisted as she brought the redhead in for a hug too. She raised her eyebrows at you over your mum's shoulder and you bite back a laugh.
The others came over to greet you and mainly Wanda in a rush, overwhelming both of you.
"You two will be in the upstairs bedroom on the left." Your mum told you as you went to grab your bags. You did a double take, convinced you had heard her wrong. That was the best room in the house. A big difference from being in the small room in the basement every other time you had been there.
"First one on the left." Your dad confirmed. There was no way your parents were going to be in the basement so you wondered who else had been moved around but didn't ask, knowing whoever it was wasn't going to be happy.
You and Wanda made your way up to the room and you couldn't help but smile at the sight of the spacious room and the door you knew led to your en suite.
"That was...a lot." Wanda summarised as she said her bag under the bed.
"I would tell you it gets better but I don't want to get your hopes up." You sighed as you got a couple of things out.
"It's just a few days." Wanda said despite the fact you should have been assuring her.
"Yeah." You nodded and stared down at the floor. "Now c'mon." You suddenly said as you took ahold of Wanda's hand and laced your fingers together. You missed the startled blush that crept onto her cheeks when you turned around.
Your family were sat outside whispering amongst themselves when you returned. Their interested gaze fell to your entwined hands in an instant.
"So you work with the Avengers?" Your brother, Dalton, said as soon as you both sat down.
"I do, I'm one myself." Wanda said as she continued to hold onto your hand.
"Must be crazy, what are they like?" He enquired.
"They're good." Wanda said simply. Everyone clearly expected something more but Wanda pretended not to notice making you smile.
"I almost did business with Stark once, decided against it in the end." Claire announced proudly. You and Wanda exchanged knowing glances. Stark had told you all about his encounter with your sister, it definetly wasn't her turning him down.
"I was invited to one of his parties." Anna said quickly. "I was busy that night unfortunately."
Bull. Shit.
"Yes I remember working with Doctor Strange when he was still in the medical profession." You gave Wanda an I-told-you-so look as your family erupted into conversation over who had the most contact with the heroes. That had to be a new record of how quickly they started talking about themselves.
They continued like that until your mum called everyone in for dinner. The food smelt undeniably amazing as you took your place at the table next to Wanda and eyed the dishes infront of you. Your parents efforts to impress the redhead weren't all that bad.
Your family continued to catch up and and you and Wanda half listened as you ate. They were all doing as well for themselves as ever and still hadn't learnt any modesty.
Although you were proud of your siblings for what they had all achieved, Wanda had contained four potentially devastating bombs from going off in the space of half an hour a week before but she wasn't going to bring that up anytime soon. Eventually though, the attention turned to you to bring you out of your silence.
"And you're still working in that little café, y/n?" Your mum asked curiously.
"I own it, mum." You corrected quietly as you stabbed some pieces on your plate.
"Ah yes, quite the contrast though, isn't it. Between you two." She said as she pointed at you and Wanda with her fork. You didn't say anything to that because you felt there really wasn't anything to say in response. It wasn't like you hadn't thought that exact thing every now and then.
"The team loves it." Wanda said suddenly making everyone, including you, look at her in slight surprise from speaking up. It hadn't taken your family long to learn Wabda wasn't much of a talker, not to them anyway. You couldn't get her to shut up half the time. "At least one of us goes everyday. If we're lucky we all can. Nothing beats it." She defended simply before turning back to her food to show she wasn't going to say anymore. You smiled down at your plate at her words and the truth of them.
No one said anything in response, clearly shocked from this new information until Dalton spoke up.
"But doesn't Stark like fancy, top of the line, restaurants? I can't imagine him in some random coffee shop, no offence sis." He nodded towards you though you knew he didn't mean it. He couldn't let you have just one win.
"That random coffee shop has catered some of Stark's parties. Not that many though." A smug smile crept onto Dalton's face as he opened his mouth to make a snarky remark but Wanda cut him down again. "Because y/n's invited to the rest as a guest and a close friend." Your family stared at you with open mouths.
"You've been invited to Stark's parties?!" Anna exclaimed. In your defence, your family never wanted to hear about your life so you never got the chance to tell them anything.
"It's not really my crowd." You shrugged. "I just go to hang out with them after." Dalton's jaw clenched in annoyance and he didn't say anything for the rest of dinner. It was only really your mum who kept talking. Telling everyone about her latest travels that fell on death ears.
It was certainly a first for your family.
When everyone had finished their food you and Wanda excused yourselves and said goodnight before retiring to your room. Wanda shut the door gently as you collapsed onto the bed on your back and glared at the ceiling. The redhead shuffled around quietly to get her toothbrush and toothpaste and some other things you weren't really paying attention to and went into the bathroom.
When she came back out she was in her bedclothes and lifted your feet off the floor to turn you so you could fully lay on the bed. You smiled at her weakly.
"You should go get changed." Wanda said as she got her laptop out her bag. "Then you can pick a movie." She announced when she had gotten under the covers and started her laptop. You smiled more and nodded.
You tried not to think about your family and everything they had said at dinner as you got changed but it proved difficult. Everything they had said echoed around in your head but most of all you couldn't shake the disregarding ways they said it. It was as though you could do no right with them. Maybe they would never be proud no matter what you did.
You placed your toothbrush back I'm the holder and rinsed your mouth before heading back into the bedroom to an awaiting Wanda.
You got under the covers next to her and rested your head on her shoulder as you glanced at the Netflix screen and pointed to one of the comedy movies.
About ten minutes into the movie Wanda spoke. "You okay?" She whispered as she continued to look at the screen although that wasn't where her focus was.
"Yeah." You whispered back.
"You can talk to me." She said after a second." You moved your head away so you could see Wanda clearly.
"I'm so glad you're here." You said honestly. She smiled and nodded as her eyes searched yours.
"I'm glad I'm here too." You knew Wanda wasn't glad she had to spend the time with your family. She was glad that she could support you despite their efforts to bring you down. You were incredibly lucky to have her.
You rested your head back on her shoulder and neither of you spoke for the rest of the movie. Or the rest of the night. You must have fallen asleep about half an hour in.
*
Wanda was one of the most intimate people you had ever met. It was mainly something she aimed towards you and Natasha but didn't refrain from comforting others and giving hugs to anyone who would take one. She never held back at all with you, as far as you knew. But when you woke up and couldn't tell where your limbs started and Wanda's ended, you were still surprised to find yourselves like that. Butterflies flew around in your stomach in a way you knew was dangerous but couldn't help but love.
You were resting your head on her rising chest and had your arm slung across her stomach. Your legs were tangled together and her arms were holding onto your waist. A warmth spread through you and you decided to settle back into her hold and closed your eyes with a content smile.
You had about ten minutes to enjoy that before Wanda woke up. You could feel the moment she realized you were so close, she physically froze. You waited in anticipation for something for several moments until your friend very slowly unhooked her legs and guided your body to lay against the mattress and pillows as she slipped out of bed towards the bathroom.
You sighed when you heard the door close and rubbed your eyes slowly, knowing you should get up but wishing more than anything that you could return to how you woke up.
"Morning." Wanda croaked when she left the bathroom and saw you sitting up in bed.
"Morning." You said back with a smile and tried not to focus on how ridiculously attractive her voice sounded.
You gathered some random clothes into a bundle and went into the bathroom to change again and brush your teeth. When you came out Wanda was pulling her shirt over her head and gave you a generous view of her toned stomach. That training with Natasha really was paying off. Your face heated up when you saw it and you turned away to pretend you hadn't seen when Wanda noticed you.
"Don't make a sound." Wanda warned. You glanced up at her with some confusion. "I don't think your family's awake yet, that means we get the kitchen to ourselves." She grinned and you did too.
You and Wanda had gotten so used to getting up early for your jobs you forgot other people would still be sleeping. It was hard to break out of the habit but it proved useful.
The pair of you made a quick breakfast and ate it outside thanks to the warm weather even at that time. But soon enough your parents came downstairs and ruined the peaceful atmosphere with the clanging of pots and loud convosations.
You wandered around the side of the house and saw the old table tennis table that bad been folded away years ago and hadn't been set up since. You went over and started setting it up when Wanda joined you and eyed the table with a glimmer of mischief.
The redhead wasn't all that competitive, in fact you were pretty sure she let other people win games on the regular to make them feel better about themselves. But there was an undeniable spark of mischief in her eyes when she saw the table.
"You played this before?" You asked convosationally.
"I have." She said as you both automatically took up your positions of opposite ends of the table.
"Me too." You said confidently. "A lot." Wanda hummed in acknowledgment and swivelled her bat in her hand and stood ready. You smiled at her seriousness for the game.
You served surprisingly well for someone who hadn't played in a few years and Wanda was able to hit it back with ease. Once you had developed a steady pace you started hitting the ball more daringly to Wanda who was caught off guard before she started doing the same.
The moment you missed the ball a small smile tugged at the corner of Wanda's lips, her celebration was short lived when you suddenly sent the ball back her way until it was too late.
"That wasn't fair!" She exclaimed childishly.
"That was tables tennis." You said seriously but started smiling again.
Wanda huffed dramatically and flipped you off as she trudged back to the table and served the ball with force. You managed to send it back but took a step away from the table in caution.
You continued like that for a while. The competition tension rising as you picked up the pace, one of you occasionally getting a point before the other evened it out.
At one point you were vaguely aware of Dalton sauntering over to see what you were doing and arched his brow at the sight of the table.
"We still have this thing?" He questioned and you hummed quietly in response, too focused on the game.
"Hey Claire! Get over here, we're playing table tennis." You rolled your eyes at the intrusive and could sense Wanda refraining from doing the same until an idea popped into your head.
You caught the ball in your hand and smiled at Wanda's protests as you moved round to her side of the table just as your sister came out.
"I didn't even know we still had this." Claire laughed as she picked up another bat from the box.
"Maybe we should take it back with us." Wanda whispered to you and you bit your lip to contain your smile because yes, yes you should.
Inevitably, your siblings sucked at table tennis. You had suspected as much you just never thought they would be as bad as they were. They missed almost every hit and everytime they did they got increasingly angry, which meant they ended up flaring their arms around like idiots. It was a memory you would be sure to treasure.
"Stupid game" and "probably broken" kept echoing across the table until your siblings finally stormed off to throw a tantrum.
The rest of the day went by quietly. You and Wanda sat by the lake for most of the afternoon to enjoy the sun and heat. You reveled in the most recent memories of your siblings embarrassment and had to keep hushing down to childish whispered whenever one of them was nearby.
Surprisingly, dinner went by peacefully too.
You weren't asked anymore questions at the table. Instead, your family were content with talking about their upcoming plans between stealing glances at you and Wanda that the redhead never failed to notice.
The pair of you slipped off to your room the first moment you got and easily fell into bed besides one another. Wanda picked out a DVD from her bag of an old Sokovian show she used to watch as a child and had you hooked on as well as teaching you the language.
She settled down beside you and within the first few scenes she wrapped an arm around your shoulder so you could sink into her further like she did sometimes when you watched things together. You were barely paying attention to the series after that.
Despite trying to keep your focus on understanding what was happening in scenes of the show, you couldn't help but want to melt under the warmth of your best friend. You hoped it was something you got to experience more, you felt safer than you ever had in Wanda's arms.
Little did you know that having you in her arms was the most comforting feeling Wanda ever experienced and she always tried to do it as little as possible to refrain from falling for you more. It never worked.
*
You had thought waking up in Wanda's arms the morning before had been the best thing to awake to. But that day when you woke up not only were your legs tangled together again but the redhead was slowly stroking your hair while your head rested on her chest.
It was a gradual gesture that maintained a perfect rhythm and made you want to fall back asleep. But you were afraid you would mistake it for a dream later on. No, it was definitely real.
Luckily, your head was already tilted upwards slightly so when you secretly opened your eyes to risk a peek at your friend you saw her staring out the window as though she was in a trance. She was clearly so deep in thought she hadn't noticed you wake up, you had never seen her like it. But the feeling was too good to ignore, too compelling.
Soon enough, you found yourself drifting off back to sleep.
*
When you woke up again Wanda was gone. Her absence left an emptiness you knew wasn't good for you. As the days of your visit went on your fake relationship with Wanda was going to effect you even more when it was over.
Over...you couldn't think about that.
Once you got up and got changed you found Wanda in the kitchen looking at the news on her phone as she sipped her coffee.
"Morning, honey." You grinned. Wanda blushed slightly into her coffee, something you thought was undeniably adorable.
"Morning yourself." She tried to play off smoothly making you grin more.
You made breakfast for you both just as your mum came into the kitchen and greeted you both with an overplayed smile, already talking to Wanda about an upcoming party that she should go to. Wanda mumbled something about a busy schedule as you managed to whisp her away outside with your food.
Eventually, you and Wanda became bored with sitting around in the house when you had such amazing surroundings on your doorstep. You declared that you were going on a walk with the redhead and left before any of your family could invite themselves to go with you. Especially as you had told your friend to wear her swimwear underneath her clothing as you had a surprise for her.
You made a point of holding Wanda's hand as you left and once you were far away from the house went to take it back only for her to hold on tighter.
"You never know where they could be lurking." She joked as an excuse, so you starting swinging your arms playfully as to assure her you wanted your hands to stay linked together too.
You spent hours in those woods and was thankful for having a spy best friend who of course knew to pack the essentials like food and drinks so you could stay away from the house as long as you wanted.
The redhead brought so much you were able to have a small picnic on top of a hill that overlooked the large lake that stretched out all the way back to the house. You remembered thinking up stories as to explain the strange shape and curves to it as a child.
"It's beautiful here." Wanda said as she picked some grapes from the bunch between you.
"It is." You agreed with a fond smile.
"I used to want to live in a place like this." She muttered, sparking your interest.
"In the woods?" You asked curiously and she nodded.
"I thought I could retire to the woods and get a small cabin and I could grow my own food and that was all I needed." You hummed with a smile as you studied Wanda's features.
"Sounds lonely." You thought aloud.
"I'd have a cat." She said simply making you laugh. "I never used to think that but now when it crosses my mind and I picture that life... I picture someone else there with me." You knew she was imagining it as she spoke and you wished you could see exactly what it was she wanted.
"We could always downgrade the holiday house." You half joked as you nodded in the vague direction of the house. "Make it a simple cabin."
"We?" Wanda asked hopefully, the emotion clear before she had a chance to conceal it.
"There's no one I'd rather run away and live in the forest with." You joked although there was a lot of truth to your words. The redhead considered you for a while before smiling and nodded as though she had reached her own internal conclusion.
"Come on." You said suddenly as you stood up and dusted yourself off.
"You want to go back?" Wanda asked and you grinned.
"I'm going to show you that surprise." You declared and packed the remaining food away. Wanda did the same, eager to see the surprise you kept secret the whole way.
It was quite a way back to the house. The whole time Wanda kept asking more questions about it but you wouldn't say. She could only make guesses based on the swim wear which should have left only a few options, non of which she got right.
Finally, you arrived where you wanted to and grinned at Wabda before starting towards the edge. The redhead frowned as she watched you approach the ledge and became worried when she invisioned the steep slope that didn't always lead to water straight down. If you were to fall... your friend didn't have to wait long to see that. You slipped along the edge and disappeared from her view as she gave a startled cry and sprinted towards the edge and knelt over with wide eyes, expecting to see something that could haunt her forever but instead she saw you on a wide ledge but seven feet below her.
To your left was part of the ledge that had been dug into randomly and acted as perfect aid to get back into the woods above.
"Come down here." You beckoned as you starter to take your top off. Wanda's eyes widened more and quickly turned around and dropped down next to you steadily.
She glanced over the side of the small ledge to glance at the fifty foot drop into the water. There was nothing in the way to fall onto but there was no telling how deep that water was.
"You can't go in like that." You laughed as you kicked off your shorts and pushed them to the side.
Wanda's face heated up at the sight of you in your y/f/c bikini as you assessed the view. But even in her flustered state she was able to put it all together.
"You want to jump down there?" She exclaimed making you laugh.
"I've done it tones of times." You assured. "It's fun."
"It's a death wish! What if the waters not deep enough?" She questioned making you laugh more.
"Are you scared, Wan?" You teased as you took a step towards her making her avert her eyes from your form. She scoffed to play it off.
"Of course not." You hummed in faux belief.
"Well then I'll see you down there." You grinned and took a couple of steps back until your feet were no longer on the platform and you were plummeting down towards the water where you landed with a splash.
Wanda held her breath as she waited for you to resurface for a few agonising seconds. When you did with a gasp and started kicking around frantically to keep yourself afloat with your built up adrenaline the redhead sighed in relief and started taking off her own shorts and shirt and placed them next to your things.
You've jumped from higher. She told herself as she rocked on her feet. And you have powers! She argued back before she shoved those thoughts aside and threw herself off the ledge and into the water below. You laughed as she came back up and pushed her hair away from her way. You swam closer to her and saw her wide smile.
"Fuck." Wanda whispered with a laugh as she looked back up from where you had both come.
"Told you it was fun." You teased as you tried not to focus on the low cut on her bikini bra.
"Yeah yeah." She laughed and paused when she looked past you and saw you were surprisingly close to the house. She could see the outline of your family sat outside.
"They're looking." Wanda muttered. You could tell by the look on her face who she was talking about. It wasn't like there was anyone else around either.
"Do you think they've caught on?" You asked nervously as you stared at Wanda's brown eyes to stop you looking at your family.
"Maybe..." She considered and glanced around. "It's not like we've been acting like that much of a couple." You scoffed at that.
"At home everyone assumes we're dating and the one time we need it be believable it isn't." You rolled your eyes but couldn't help the smile.
"I know." Wanda laughed for a second but then paused. "Then let's give them something believable." She gently placed both her hands on your waist and pulled you slowly towards her. You let her guide you and took extra notice of the water droplets across her face. You almost trembled when your bare stomachs pressed together in the water lightly.
Wanda's soft hands left your waist and gripped your thighs to pull you up to wrap your legs around her own waist. You couldn't help but giggle at the gesture as you wrapped your arms around the redhead's neck and held onto her waist with your legs in a lock.
"Can I?" Wanda whispered when she lifted your chin with her finger and her other hand came round the back of your neck.
"Just shut up and kiss me." You demanded with a playful smile and leaned in to do it yourself.
You smiled into the kiss and felt Wanda do the same. It was everything you had ever imagined it to be. Her lips were soft and fell into place perfectly against your own as they moved together. Your mind was hazey and your stomach was doing flips at the realisation that you were actually kissing your long time crush. You forced yourself to remember that it was all a show. That Wanda didn't mean it. But she put on a believable act and kissed passionately, even slipping her tongue through your parter lips to explore your mouth further.
When she eventually pulled away you rested your foreheads together to catch your breath and grinned as you closed your eyes.
"You're a really good kisser." You blurted out making Wanda chuckle.
"Not too bad yourself." She teased.
"I hope not, we're gonna have to do that again." You smiled and instantly realized that sounded like a confession you desperetly wished you could claim. "You know because...Once probably wasn't enough to make it entirely believable." You rambled and Wanda nodded somewhat stiffly and let your legs drop back down. You wanted to say something to her, anything but it was all stuck on the tip of your tongue.
Just as you opened your mouth to speak, a small murmurarion of starlings flew across the lake, some of them skimming the water then gaining height again as they got closer to you and Wanda. You both ducked instinctively as they flew over your heads and off towards the forest again as you watched them in awe until they disappeared. You glanced up at the sky and noticed the sun had gone behind a cloud, ableing you to continue looking up at the other birds higher up.
You kicked your legs up slightly so you could lay on your back and outstretch your arms to keep you afloat in the water so you could stare up at the sky without hurting your neck.
You didn't realise Wanda mimicked you until her hands brushed against yours. She withdrew it as soon as you touched and went to murmmer an apology but you smiled and held onto her hand as you both lay watching the birds.
Neither of you had to say anything. It was a comfortable and peaceful silence that was occasionally filled with birds chirping or the sound of a calm breeze. Of all the things you expected to feel on that trip, relaxed was not one of them.
You stayed like that for a while until you were both snapped out of your daydreams by the distant yell that declared dinner. Well, you had to go back to them eventually.
Both of you took your time swimming back to dry land and only felt a shiver when you left the water and the breeze hit you. Wanda spotted and reached the towels before you and wrapped yours around you tightly. You thanked her with a small blush as you both sauntered up to the house where the mouthwatering smell of a barbecue greeted you. Your dad was leaning over it while shooing your brother away as he tried to offer his 'help'.
You and Wanda went inside to change swiftly and came back outside as the food was being placed on plates and your mum finished setting up the buffet. Everyone starter helping themselves and you piled as much food as you could onto the plate. You parents had asked what food Wanda liked and when you gave them a brief list you added in a few things you knew you both loved.
"You gonna eat all that?" Anna asked as she eyed all the food on your plate. Guilt and insecurities washed over you until Wanda purposefully grabbed a large handful of small sausage rolls and put them on her plate that was piled with a considerable amount more food than your own. You smiled at the reassuring gesture as she sat down with a satisfied grin on her face when she saw Anna close her mouth to stay quiet.
"Thanks." You whispered to her as you sat down.
"If you don't eat all that I will." She declared. You were pretty sure she went back for seconds.
Instead of disappearing back to your room like you did the previous nights, you and Wanda stayed with your family for a while after dinner. It wasn't to do with their company, more the mesmerising fire in the firepit you all sat around. You were cuddled up into Wanda's side with a blanket over both of you as you stared at the flames, smiling at their small flickers and dances.
"So Wanda," one of your sisters began, "are any of the other Avengers...you know." She nodded her head in the direction of you both.
Oh boy you though.
"I don't think it's my place to say." Wanda said because yes, a lot of the Avengers were queer.
"Oh come on, you can tell us." Anna encouraged as she sat forward eagerly.
"I could, but I'm not going to." Wanda continued to defy.
"Lay off it guys." You mumbled but was ignored. Your family took it in turns saying her teammates names in hopes of sparking a reaction, clearly forgetting they were facing someone who had been trained by Natasha Romanoff.
"Stark!" Claire said but was instantly shut down by the others.
"He's married!" Dalton objected.
"Could still be bi though." Claire tried but Dalton just scoffed.
"I suppose there's going to be more surprises."
"What does that mean?" Wanda asked with narrowed eyes, feeling protective of her teammates. Dalton met her gaze with his own challenging one.
"I just never thought one of the Avengers would be a dyke." You felt Wanda stiffen as you all held your breath. There was no way to tell what was going through the redhead's mind, especially as after all those years of friendship you still didn't even know what team she batted for. She was an ally at least, but would she see this as her battle to fight?
Upon getting no reaction, Dalton continued. "It makes sense why you'd hang out with y/n though, we always knew something was wrong with her but-"
"That's enough." Your mum snapped with a guilty expression she failed to mask. You swallowed hard and moved to get up, deciding you had heard enough.
"Then you're idiots." Wanda stated as she glared daggers at your brother while you sunk down.
"I'll have you know I have a doctorate-"
"Your idiots." She repeated. "There's nothing wrong with y/n, which is impressive considering she's grown up around you lot." You looked at your friend in awe as she continued.
"She's the most amazing person I've ever known, including any of the Avengers. She's everything that you're not and I'm lucky to call her my girlfriend. It doesn't matter what any of you think of her, I love her and I always will." She declared as shot daggers at each individual family member who had fallen silent. She took your hand and pulled you up from your seat to take you inside.
You couldn't get her saying she loved you out of your head. You reminded yourself over and over again on the way to your room that it was just an act. That the redhead was making her point. But God, how you wished it was real.
She was so gentle with you as she guided you through the house. When you got to your room and broke down sobbing she held you on the bed for a long time until your cries turned to sniffles. The thing was, you weren't sure what you were crying over. Sure, what Dalton had said had hurt. As did the confirmation that your whole family had always looked down on you. But you had known that was the case for a long time, you had moved on from it.
Instead, you may have being crying over what you didn't know and didn't have. How much of what Wanda said was true? It was all based off of something that wasn't real. What if she saw you the same way your family did?
When you stopped crying you became aware of Wanda gently stroking your hair as she rested her head on yours and held you close to her. You remembered the memories you had accumulated over the past few days with her. The kisses, the hand holding, the nights together, how she stood up for you like no one ever had. You loved her so much.
"I think we should go tomorrow." Wanda mumbled and you nodded into her shoulder.
"I'm not going to leave you though, you know that right? You can stay at mine and we'll watch more of those crappy American movies you like." She mocked lightly making you chuckle against her. "Whatever you want."
"I just want you." You said honestly. You knew you shouldn't have said that, but you were too emotionally drained to care.
"I just want you too, y/n." You pulled away from the redhead to look at her clearly.
"I don't think you know what I mean." You sniffed and she smiled at you fondly.
"I mean what I said earlier, around the fire." Your eyes widened slightly and you held your breath.
"It was all an act though." You whispered and Wanda chuckled as she exhaled sharply.
"No y/n." "I think I am inlove with you." She said as she took ahold of your hand and searched your face for any signs of a reaction to her confession.
"Me?" You questioned, not quite believing it.
"Yes you, idiot." You smiled and sighed in relief, not being able to find the words to express your overflowing happiness and numerous other emotions you couldn't quite pinpoint. You let go of Wanda's hand and brought them both up to cup her cheeks. You had done a lot more handholding than kissing in the previous few days. It needed to be evened out.
You closed the gap between you and kissed Wanda with just as much passion as you had in the lake, except all hesitation and questions were gone. Because you knew she loved you. Oh God she loved you. You grinned into the kiss at the thought and felt her hand fall to your hip while the other caressed the side of your neck in the most gentle manner you had ever seen from her.
When you eventually pulled away you rested your forehead against hers, a smile still playing on both your lips.
"Told you we'd have to do that again." You said and and laughed. "I love you too."
"Well I hoped that wasn't a pity kiss." She joked and you smacked her arm playfully.
"It definetly was not and I'll prove it to you by taking you on a date when we get back." You promised as you sat back to look at her clearly.
"Oh yeah?" She asked with a playful smirk and leaned over so her face was inches away from yours.
"Yeah." You said back.
"Well until then, my real girlfriend should definetly just keep kissing me." She said as she pushed you down gently and kissed you again. You smiled against her gleefully.
"Your girlfriend would love to."

My Little Monster Pt. 4
(A/N: Sorry Bae. Warning! Involves mentions of death, eating people's emotions, demons...also, if sexual fluidity bothers you just..,just don't interact with me or my writing at all man.)
masterlist.
You really wished you had underwear on right now.
How long had you been out? It must've been awhile, considering the level of tension that had built up in the room around you. Jungkook looked out of place in this version of your life, standing with his arms crossed and his weight shifted to one leg, a harsh look on his face that made you squirm.
Gone was the long hair you had known when you first met Jungkook, now it was cropped short, lines shaved into the undercut behind his ear. He looked more severe with this hair, pale skin almost glowing around sharp silver piercings. At least he still dressed the same, black utilitarian boots anchoring into the fluffy rug of Yoongi's living room.
You knew it must bother Yoongi, the fact that Jungkook didn't take his shoes off before entering his home. Holly sniffed curiously around the large boots, head tilted in confusion.
Who was this man and why was he so pissed?
You snapped your head towards Yoongi, a similar expression of harsh judgment on his face. You couldn't tell if it was directed towards you or not, but the energy radiating off of Yoongi tasted like it did when you first met him. Angry.
"I've been looking for you months- I haven't heard from you in so long, I got worried." Jungkook frowned, staring at the dazed look on your face.
"We've gone longer without talking before," You insisted, crossing your arms. "Why are you really here?"
"People said they hadn't seen you in awhile- we might not talk much anymore but you always check in. I make sure you're safe regardless, you know that." Jungkook pouted.
You didn't say anything, looking at him with a blank expression. You used to be attached to his side- he was your best friend. Things had never been the same after you decided killing people was a better way of nourishing yourself. It was your own stubbornness that drove you apart- but still. You missed your best friend. You knew that he kept tabs on you but didn't realize that when you stopped frequenting the same spots you had before you met Yoongi, it would alarm him.
"What? Did you think I died?" You laughed, deflecting the guilty feeling in your chest.
Jungkook refused to look away from you, pain so clear on his face. He was always better at being honest about how he felt. He wasn't afraid of you knowing he was scared for you, wasn't afraid to hunt you down to make sure you were okay.
"Something like that." Jungkook muttered, shrugging slightly. "Now I realize something much worse is going on."
"Huh?" Yoongi snapped, breaking his silence.
You shared his confusion, drifting towards your boyfriend.
Jungkook pretended Yoongi wasn't in the room, only acknowledging the outburst with a slight twitch of annoyance in his shoulder.
"Can you please explain this to me?" Yoongi asked you. You nodded, forgetting for a moment that you had a whole life you had neglected to mention to Yoongi.
"This is Jungkook- he, he's my friend." You explained. "He made me...this. What I am."
"A lust demon." Jungkook corrected with an annoyed look on his face, "Say it- a lust demon. A dead, sinister presence made to feed on humans although right now you're acting more like the food."
"You're the one who wanted me to stop killing people, I stopped- what's the problem." You snapped, throwing your hands up.
Jungkook looked at you, outraged, "The problem is that you- you're...domesticated. It's gross."
"You're talking a lot of shit for someone who looks like they just got outta college," Yoongi warned from his place on the couch. The two men were so different physically but you'd be lying if you said Yoongi didn't remind you of Jungkook at times. They even had matching glares on their faces right now, aimed towards each other.
"I'm a million years old-"
"You're, like, not even 100 and you stopped aging at 24, your prefrontal cortex clearly never had a chance to develop," You interrupted, rolling your eyes. Yoongi smirked and let out a dry laugh, holding his hand out for a fist bump.
You did so eagerly, making a little explosion noise as your knuckles made contact while Jungkook watched the two of you, slightly disgusted.
"Come off it- and what's with that red hair? Do the curtains match the drapes?"
You frowned at Jungkook, tilting your head in confusion. Jungkook didn't look so sure of the comment himself, freezing for a moment. Yoongi, on the other hand, was taking full advantage, grinning wolfishly now. He has recently dyed his hair a gingery red, lighting a fire in you that made you ever more attracted to him- clearly he was too powerful now.
"You sound a little jealous, is that what this is about?" Yoongi laughed, "Does someone need a snack?"
"Woah," You mumbled, looking between the two of them awkwardly. You tilted your head, tasting something palpable in the air. You thought it was sheer annoyance at first but now that Yoongi mentioned it...
You cleared your throat awkwardly, taking a step towards Jungkook, "It's your mood Yoongi- your feelings are radiating off of you. It can be a little hard to focus on anything else for us when your emotions are this strong, I'm sure he doesn't actually..."
You trailed off as Yoongi grumbled under his breath, a million questions no doubt running through his mind. Jungkook had always had a harder time shutting off the hungry side of him, dumb little comments fueled by horniness slipping out every now and then. You actually found it really funny usually, except when you were already caught between your best friend and your boyfriend. No, now it was just incredibly awkward.
"Whatever, I'm here to take her home," Jungkook snapped, pointing an angry finger at you. He named a home you hadn't been to in ages, a home that only visited you in random dreams when you were particularly stuck on missing your best friend. Jungkook then swiveled on his heels to face Yoongi with a childishly angry look on his face, pink lips pulled into a pout, "I wouldn't feed on you if you were the last human on earth. I'd rather die and I'm already dead. I'd rather die again!"
"She's not going anywhere," Yoongi said adamantly, looking towards you. His eyes locked on your bare thighs and realized you were still standing there in nothing but his hoodie, raising his eyebrows slightly. "Go put pants on-"
"Don't tell her what to do." Jungkook quipped defensively, not bothering to let you say a word.
You felt like a toy being fought over, caught in the middle without any mention of what you wanted, "Hey-"
"Who are you? Her father?" Yoongi laughed, cutting you off.
Your frown deepened, trying to find a way to cut in between dumb and dumber.
"Why, worried she calls me daddy?" Jungkook sneered haughtily, crossing his arms smugly.
"Nah, not worried about that at all," Yoongi sighed, leaning back into the couch, he let his knees fall open, manspreading in an act of cocky opulence, "Not when she likes when I call her pet."
"OKAY," You yelled, deep embarrassment washing over your entire body. You should've stayed dead. "I'm gonna go change and we're all going to just...calm down."
You walked back towards your bedroom quickly, reaching over to pinch Yoongi on the neck as you passed him. He squirmed and shot you a look but said nothing, Jungkook grumbling under his breath.
When you came back out with an actual outfit on, Yoongi was gone. You frowned, looking around for him before Jungkook waltzed out of the kitchen holding a vase you had made for Yoongi during your pottery phase.
"He went on a drive," Jungkook informed with a pleased looking smile on his face, "Said he needed to clear his head."
Your frown deepened, wondering why he hadn't asked you to go with him. Maybe he needed a human moment- sometimes he asked for those when he wanted to be alone. Still, he could've taken you.
"Well, now that you know I'm fine, I guess you're leaving too, right?" You mumbled, pulling the sleeves of your sweater over your hands. Jungkook frowned, pouting slightly before setting the vase down and crossing the room, throwing his arms around you in a tight hug.
"No, I haven't seen you in forever." He said, squishing his cheek against the top of your head, "I wanna hang out."
You sighed, wrapping your arms around his waist and hugging him tightly. You pushed your nose into his chest and inhaled, comforted by his scent. You missed him- the way he smelled, the warmth that spread over you when he was around. You hadn't realized how different being around humans was- the constant wave of emotion impacting your system, altering your own mood. You loved Yoongi, you loved being around him all the time and if you could choose right now you'd be in his car beside him, but you couldn't deny the clarity that you felt without a human around.
"Okay, fine." You grumbled. "You can stay for a bit."
"Good," Jungkook grinned, "Maybe then you can explain to me why the fuck you made that god awful vase."
Yoongi didn't come back for hours, gracing Jungkook with ample time to catch up on your life. You were happy to be around him, a calm feeling of peace settling over you.
"Now that we're alone," Jungkook said slowly, leaning towards you, "Can you please tell me what the fuck is going on? Why are you living with a human?"
You frowned, staring down at your hands, "I- I love him. I want to be with him."
Jungkook didn't say anything, leaning back into the couch. He let his knees fall apart as his head hung back, staring at the ceiling idly, "You know you only feel like that because that's how he's making you feel- don't you? We're basically mirrors for humans. You were so angry for so long because you only fed on negative feelings. Now you think you're in love because that's what you're eating. You are what you eat, it's all fake- you're smart enough to know that."
"You don't know that for sure-"
"Trust me," He laughed humorlessly. "I do. And anyway, what happens when he ages? You're gonna fuck an 80 year old? What about when he dies? What then? Or let's say he wants to be a demon- which, by the way, I am so not doing- then you feed off of other people? Do you think he'd be okay with that? Would you be okay with ruining his life like that?"
You bit your lip, unsure of what to say. It wasn't as if these things hadn't crossed you mind, but you just didn't have a solution. It was a problem for later- you were focused on now. You felt Jungkook take your hand softly, lacing his fingers between yours.
"I know you might think I'm just saying this because I happen to be a demon myself, but I'm also right." He said softly, "Explain it to me now, when he isn't here to cloud your head- How do you see this working? Do you really love him?"
You stared at Jungkook blankly, tracing the expectant expression on his face. He was right- there was no way to know if you were truly in love with him. You pushed the thought away, pulling your hand out of his, "I think you should leave. You're not helping me, you're only making me more confused."
Jungkook looked taken aback, stuck in his spot. You rose to your feet, walking to the front door quickly. He followed after a moment, shoulders slumped slightly.
"You know where home is, if you need me." He muttered, pushing past you. You watched him walk away until you couldn't see him any longer, taking your sense of peace with him.
You did your best to put what Jungkook said behind you, but it seemed that you weren't the only one that he had given a speech to. Yoongi came back later that night but didn't say much- a couple weeks later and he still wasn't saying much.
It was easy to forget that Yoongi was still indeed, a human. The things that came with they were difficult- he cared about other people, wanted to help when he saw an old lady crossing the street, donated money to children's hospitals. You loved Yoongi- but you were still a demon.
It was hard to understand why he did these things, why he cared. Empathy wasn't something you understood, just that it changed the energy humans emitted. Made them taste different- love tasted the best, lust made your mouth water, fear was good too. But sadness? It was gross. Tasted bitter, made you gag and recoil.
You stared at Yoongi now, his slumped over shoulders with his head in his hands. He was seated at the kitchen table, a full plate of food you had made sitting in front of him. You walked over, hovering above him with your arms laying limply at your sides, confused.
"You're not eating."
Yoongi didn't say much, rubbing his eyes slightly. You pressed your mouth into a harsh line, pointing at the plate, "I made you food- I learned how to make eggs the way you like. You're not eating them."
"Sorry," He mumbled, moving his hands off of his face and into weak fists at his plate. "I'm just not very hungry."
You felt the sadness wafting off of him, narrowing your eyes slightly. "Why do you taste different?"
"Taste?" He frowned, looking up at you with his face scrunched up. "Oh- I guess my mood changes how my energy tastes, huh? I...I'm not feeling very good right now."
"You're sick?" You asked lamely, sitting at the far end of the table.
Yoongi picked up the fork next to his hand and stabbed at his food, pushing it around his plate idly, "No. I'm not sick, just...I dunno. I think I'm just stressed out."
You could see what he meant- the bags under his eyes, his even paler than normal complexion. Even his hands, which were usually steady, were shaking slightly. He looked like he did when you met him- except back then you thought that was just him. Now you knew better, had gotten used to his smiley face and the pink tinge of human vitality on his cheeks.
"Well, when are you gonna be normal again?" You asked, frowning. "Should I find another recipe for eggs? What about steak? I saw you eating that once, I can figure it out."
"Normal? I- I don't-" Yoongi huffed, getting frustrated. His energy was changing, less bitter, more....salty. Anger- it was anger. "Food's not gonna fix it. That's not how feelings work."
"That's how my feelings work," You reasoned, shrugging. "You humans make everything so complicated, why not just find a solution instead of wallowing?"
Yoongi stared at you, all anger now. At least he wasn't sad. See, you fixed the problem. Now he was better. You smiled at him, tilting your head to the side, waiting for praise. Maybe a 'thank you pet, you're right' or a 'I was just being dramatic, sorry about that'. Instead, Yoongi's face melted into a blank look, eyebrows raising as his mouth open and closed a million times like he was about to say something and then stopped himself.
You frowned, noticing his energy change again- this guy was like a mood ring, back to bitter sadness.
"I don't know why I thought you'd understand," He whispered, almost inaudibly.
"Probably because you forgot that I'm not human," You suggested, aiming to be helpful.
"Clearly," He spat, staring at the ground with an annoyed look on his face. He paused, rubbing at the temples of his forehead, "Sometimes, I think we should've taken things slower."
"What?" You snapped, scoffing at him.
"You stalked me for two weeks and then we had sex and you moved in," He pointed out, "We moved fast- that's all I'm saying."
You narrowed your eyes, disliking the tone he was taking. His anger was melting away into cautious anxiety. You could see him treading carefully, tiptoeing around something he wasn't saying bluntly.
"What did Jungkook say to you?" You asked suddenly, crossing your arms and locking your eyes onto him.
Yoongi looked at you nervously, flicking his gaze back to the plate of food in front of him instead when he saw how pissed off you looked, "Nothing I didn't I didn't already know. Were you two just friends or did you date?"
"Just friends- What difference does it make?" You spat, tilting your head to the side while neglecting to mention the habit Jungkook and you had for sharing meals often, feeding off the same person when both of you felt hungry enough. Sometimes that involved sex- occasionally.
Yoongi shrugged, broad shoulders scrunched up under the thin material of his shirt. "I just wanna know if he's trying to get me to break up with you so he can have you to himself or if he's right- that we shouldn't be together."
It was probably both. Jungkook and you had been inseparable for the longest time, it's only natural that he'd want you back to being his best friend. You wanted to say it was both, but you couldn't admit it. The two of you stayed silent, neither one of you saying much of anything.
"You said forever," You reminded him, an accusing edge to your voice but you knew he wasn't at fault here. It wasn't his fault he was the braver one out of the two of you.
You drifted towards him, magnetized by the flood of emotions coming off of him. He tasted like all the things that had made up your diet before he loved you- negativity. It confused you, your head saying it was a bad thing that he tasted like that but your body reacting differently. Your hands tingled, wanting to touch him, to taste more of how he was feeling and swallow him whole.
Yoongi seemed to agree, shifting closer to you and pushing his chair back, rising to his full height as you leaned your hip against the table's edge. His hand laid flat over yours, skin burning yours as he kept eye contact, a hazy look unfocusing and refocusing on yours.
"Yeah well," Yoongi mumbled, locking eyes with you with a renewed stubbornness. He pressed his hips flat against yours, pushing a stray piece of hair behind your ear. "I didn't bother to consider that my forever is much shorter than yours. I'm not immortal. I have a whole life ahead of me, I age. I...I want kids and I want my mom to meet the person I'm with without wondering why the hell they're not eating what she made them for dinner."
There was a sinking feeling in your chest and you leaned forward, wanting a smaller distance between you and the taste of disappointment that Yoongi reeked of. Your brain hated that you were the cause of it but you were so damn hungry...
Yoongi crashed his mouth against yours brashly- all teeth, anger, and brutal force. He kissed you like you needed him to, like it was the last time you'd see him because it probably was. His hold on you was bruising, gripping your face in one hand as his tongue licked into your mouth, slotting one leg between yours. You kissed him back with a matching ferocity, gripping the material of his shirt in your fists and holding him against you.
"If you do this," You said carefully, your voice small as you pulled away to breathe for a moment, "If you end things, you can't undo it. I don't know how it works but if I leave you now, you won't even remember you met me at all in a couple weeks."
Yoongi didn't say anything, kissing you again instead. You let him turn you in his arms and walk you backwards towards the couch, stumbling over the back of it until you landed on the soft cushions with a light 'thud'. He climbed over you, flattening his body against yours.
"I don't want that," Yoongi mumbled softly between kisses leading down your neck, "I love you- you know how much I love you. We've been making it work so far, maybe we can find a way..."
Neither one of you believed that. You stood in the apartment you were beginning to realize wasn't your home at all, it was Yoongi's and you had forced your way in. You looked around, barely recognizing the life you found yourself in. You were realizing now that making it work didn't mean that it was actually working.
What was undoubtedly working was your physical chemistry, Yoongi rocking against your body in waves. Your hand gripped his ass, squeezing the flesh in your hand. You did what you wanted to him, touching where you wanted. You'd miss this- the comfort in owning someone the way you felt like you had owned Yoongi and how he owned you.
"There's no way." You thought aloud, "We can't be ourselves and be together at the same time. One of us would constantly be pretending to be something we're not for the other."
"But I don't want to forget you," He insisted, sad eyes boring into yours. "Make me remember- don't let me forget."
You tried to memorize the way he felt but even that was different now- suddenly the warmth that had always comforted you and kept you fed had gone cold. All that was left was sadness, not that it would last long for him. He'd go back to being his normal happy self once you left him for good, memories of you wouldn't haunt him. No- he'd be free and you'd be stuck in hell, pining for a man who wouldn't be able to even see you after today, much less recognize you if you passed him in the street.
If there was one thing you could do, it was make sure you left him knowing how much you cared for him.
It's the last you'll have Yoongi the way you want him and you make it count, memorizing the way his arms feel wrapped around you, how soft his lips felt latched onto your skin. You took special note of the look of concentration on his face as he pushed into you, the raspy growl he let out when you raked your nails down his back. He fucked you like he loved you, pushing and pulling against you, watching with hooded eyes as you straddled him, lifting and dropping your hips onto him. You memorized the color pink his skin flushed, the way sweat beaded at his hairline. You smoothed the frown etched on his face, admiring the shift in disposition after you did so.
A clarity settled after the two of you had finished, laying side by side in silence, catching your breath.
"I'm gonna go get a towel- I'll be right back," Yoongi mumbled after a moment, rising from the couch. He staggered towards the bathroom and you felt your heart sink, knowing if there was ever a time to leave- it was now. Yoongi would find some excuse to keep you in his life, to keep him from forgetting you. It would hurt him more, having you stick around.
No, it was better if it was finite- the last time you came back to him before he could forget completely but that wouldn't happen this time. You weren't coming back this time.
The minute Yoongi walked out of the door, you started spinning- this was it, you had to leave him- or had he already left you? Your human, the one human you cared for, left you. What part of forever meant two years?
You stared at the apartment he left you in, now littered with signs of your own existence. Why had he let things get so far? Why did he assure you at every turn that it was okay to let your guard down?
This was a mistake, knowing him, trusting him, loving him. You grabbed the nearest thing to you, a stupid vase you made when you tried out pottery for the first time, painting a little stick figure of Yoongi and you holding hands on it. Yoongi had made fun of you when you showed it to him, teasing you for how terrible it was, how cheesy the little red hearts surrounding the drawing were. You lifted it and smashed it against the wall, wishing you had never made the thing in the first place.
You stared at the shattered clay pieces on the ground, red roses once arranged carefully in the vase lying helplessly on the ground.
You never should've fallen in love with a human.
You stalked out of the apartment you had mistakenly called yours, already dialing a number that felt like home. There was no one else who could comfort you now, no one else you could bare being around.
"Jungkook?" You mumbled, voice shaking with nervousness, "Do you think- Do you think I could I come home?"

Oh yeah! It's 2022. I spent like. a SIGNIFICANT portion of last year just getting harassed by other members of the fandom on here. somehow twitter has more of the polite people requesting more info on uwwtbb and looking to learn more than here does lmao. my patience is nonexistent. i love all yall that have been normal and supported me through ~these unprecedented times~ but we've also gotta remember that whenever we/I get loud about UWWTBB, racists in the fandom will as well. Like I said, all my patience is gone.
although it's not all bad! I've noticed a generally nicer vibe in here since the circle of racist white women with i*cest fetishes basically collapsed a few months back. it doesn't seem like any of my mutuals are getting weird or harassing statements anymore. TBB brought out the absolute worst in this fandom and obviously it's because it's a racist ableist antisemitic mess, but I'm also seeing how TBoBF is bringout out so much joy and happiness in folks. like it's still got it's issues but people are 10x better talking/ranting out it than with tbb. you know why? cause the show isn't embedded with nine types fof bigotry, so then the bigots don't feel as comfortable coming to watch.
there's still annoying ass weird fanboys who can't project onto Boba anymore, but for me personally they're easier to deal with than like. a circle of pissy racist white gays/women who have their weird ass followers tracking your every move to report back to them on anon every thing you do and say only to purposely misrepresent it and call it bullying. white folks who insist that they're not racist but who turn all their vitriol on the people of color who don't agree with them and who ignore the white people who supported us through all of this (some of whom were making many more posts in support of uwwtbb than even my mutuals were)
third time's the charm: I have no patience left. I dealt with three weirdos back to back today and there's going to be more. I have every right to this corner of the fandom, all of you who are marginalized and have suffered because of it have every right to be here, too. I'll be damned if some racist white person tries to make me feel like shit for being here.

I love you because you’re you
Summary:
Imagine Mobius confessing to Sylvie that his crush on Loki started when he watched his exploits as D.B. Cooper... Imagine Loki overhearing this conversation... That is enough to give ideas to our god of mischief to spice up their life...

Sitting at his desk, Mobius was watching Loki.
When he thought about everything that had happened, everything they had been through, and reflected on where they were now, he couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment.
Whether it was Loki or him, they had both had to deal with great changes in their lives. Both of them had to question themselves in a short period of time.
But they had managed to do it, together.
Mobius sometimes felt a kind of overwhelming elation when he stopped to think about their lives.
Order and chaos.
As he saw Loki walk away with the group of recruits he was training, he let out a sigh of satisfaction and dug into his files.
"Oh my... Mobius, you got it bad."
He looked up.
"Sylvie!"
The young woman was leaning against the doorframe of his office, arms crossed and looking at him with a smile, the usual spark of mischief in her eyes.
"Come in!"
She stepped forward to sit across from him.
The arrival of Loki in Mobius' life had surprisingly brought him another bond.
Sylvie had made a place for herself in Mobius' heart almost as quickly as Loki had.
He had found in her a dear friend, a sister at heart.
When you think about it, Mobius who had been betrayed by his closest friend, Loki who had never found a friend who accepted him as he was, and Sylvie who had not been able to create a bond with anyone during all her years on the run, it was clear that the bonds between them all could only be strong, whether it was friendship, love or brotherhood.
"What did you mean when you came in, or rather why did you say that?"
Sylvie leaned in, her chin in her hands.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe your goofy smile when Loki walks into a room you're in, your completely smitten look when you watch him work or do something else... Do you want me to go on?"
Mobius, embarrassed, raised his hand and said, "Stop! No! It's okay!"
"If it makes you feel any better, it's only me who sees it. After all I know you and I know perfectly well the bond between you. And even though Loki is an expert at masking his feelings, he's just as obvious as you are."
"I guess the fact that you've spent so many years running away, you've learned to watch people so you can preserve yourself." Mobius told her compassionately, fully aware that he had contributed to what had shaped Sylvie's personality.
"Mobius..." Sylvie sighed before continuing, "We've talked about this before, we each did what we had to do to survive or because it was what we thought we were made for. Now we're doing what we need to do to atone, to make sure it doesn't happen again. Know that I have long since forgiven you completely."
Mobius knew that he would still carry the guilt of what he had done at the service of the old TVA for a long time to come, and even though he didn't know at the time, that didn't stop him from being aware of his own responsibility.
He simply replied, "Thank you."
"Well! Let's pick up where we left off," Sylvie began in a lighter tone, "I'm a little curious Mobius, I have the feeling that your crush on Loki dates back long before you met him for real..."
Mobius knew that with Sylvie, there was no point in denying it, she knew him well, sometimes too well for his liking.
"Damn, why do you always have to be so perceptive?"
She shrugged, before adding softly, "it's just that you're very open, Mobius, when it comes to Loki or when you're with him."
"If you say so." replied Mobius, looking unconvinced even though he knew she was right. Odin's lie about Loki's origin had had such a negative impact on his life that Mobius was doing everything to be transparent. He would always do anything to preserve the trust Loki had in him.
"So?" insisted Sylvie, "Your little crush that became a big one… When did you realize it?"
Mobius, annoyed, replied somewhat curtly, "I didn't keep a diary you know."
"Okay, but there must be something about what Loki did or who he was that made you realize your attraction, right?"
Mobius muttered and seeing that Sylvie wouldn't let go, he reached into the only locked drawer of his desk, opened it and pulled out a file.
He took out a photo and slid it towards Sylvie.
She leaned over to take a closer look.
She gasped and her gaze went back and forth from the picture to Mobius several times.
"D.B. Cooper?!!"
Sylvie moved her chair over to Mobius' desk to be closer.
"Now, my little Mobius, I want to know everything."
Mobius sighed and rolled his eyes but complied anyway.
______
Loki had assigned their training missions to the new recruits.
"Miss Minutes, what time is it?"
"Loki, I already told you! Just because I'm shaped like a watch doesn't mean I'm here to be your clock!"
Loki chuckled, before looking at what time it was on the wall clock. He would probably never tire of teasing the IA.
He headed to Mobius' office, he had five minutes before his next assignment so he was going to take the opportunity to pay his lover a short visit, hoping Mobius would be alone.
As he approached, he noticed that the door was slightly open and he heard voices. "So much for the tête-à-tête." he muttered to himself and turned on his heels, a little disappointed.
But as he walked away, he heard his name. Of course, he went back on his steps discreetly and approached the half-opened door, taking care not to be seen. He was not able to look inside the office, but he could now hear the voices very well and recognized that of Sylvie who was conversing with Mobius.
"Okay, but there must be something about what Loki did or who he was that made you realize your attraction, right?"
He heard Mobius mutter in response, but knowing their dynamic by now, he knew he would answer. His answer was of great interest to Loki.
There was a moment of silence, then he heard Sylvie gasp and then exclaim.
"D.B. Cooper?!!"
He heard a noise, as if a piece of furniture was moving and then Sylvie's lower, but still distinct voice saying, "Now, my little Mobius, I want to know everything."
Oh yes my little Mobius, I want to know everything too.
"You didn't see the video of the whole scene where Loki pretended to be D.B.Cooper, I did. And I don't know if it's the charisma he gives off, or the suit, or the glasses, or the haircut, or that fucking wink, but it's the first time I've noticed my interest was far less professional than it should have been."
Sylvie chuckled and replied, "How? You Mobius? You the oh-so-perfect TVA employee?"
Mobius grumbled back, "Ex-employee first, and then perfect employee or not, I'm only human. I was on a diet and I ended up with a five-star meal under my nose, you can't judge me because it aroused my appetite."
Loki realized that the five minutes were over and returned to his appointment place, a little baffled by what he had just heard, but above all extremely interested.
An idea began to germinate in his head, he was not the god of mischief for nothing.
Mobius was not going to figure it out...
Loki moved forward with a much more energetic step, the prospect of an interesting evening motivating him for the rest of his day.
_______
In the evening, much later, they were making out like teenagers on the couch.
Loki had surprised Mobius with a candlelight dinner and they had spent an extremely pleasant evening and continued to prolong the harmony of the moment.
Loki had wrapped his arms around Mobius' neck and was sitting on his lap.
They separated only to catch their breath before reconnecting their lips again.
Mobius' eyes were closed. Loki swirled his tongue in his lover's mouth in an absolutely naughty way before planting kisses from his mouth to his ear and then whispering in a warm voice, "Open your eyes, love."
Unable to refuse anything to Loki in the state of arousal in which he was, Mobius complied.
He opened his eyes and gasped.
Inches away from him, looking at him through familiar sunglasses, was D.B. Cooper.
D.B. Cooper-Loki sitting on his lap.
He brought his face close to Mobius', lowered his glasses slightly and winked at him. Just like on the video.
Mobius swallowed and licked his lips.
Loki's mouth almost against Mobius', his eyes unfathomable behind the smoked glasses, Loki asked him with a deep and sensual voice, "So, is the charisma that I give off..." he gave a small perverse thrust.
"... or my suit..." he traced with his fingertips the lapel of the black jacket with a lascivious gesture.
"...my haircut" he ran his long fingers through his short hair in a suggestive way.
"...my wink," he repeated the gesture before putting his forearms on Mobius' shoulders and tying his hands behind his neck.
He whispered, "Is all this up to your expectations?" and then leant in to kiss him.
But Mobius, who had recognized the words he had said to Sylvie, had no intention of letting his god of mischief be in control any longer.
Even before Loki's lips could touch his, with a skilful twist of his back, he made them turn around and managed to reverse their position somehow.
Loki found himself lying on the length of the couch, his legs imprisoned by the knees of Mobius who ended up now astride him.
Mirroring Loki's moves, he kissed him and then in the same manner, placed a shower of kisses from his jaw to his ear against which he whispered, " Become Loki again, sweetheart."
Before his eyes, under a veil of green magic that flowed through Loki, Mobius saw his lover regain his usual features.
Loki pouted a little and asked sheepishly, "Didn't you enjoy it?"
Mobius put a finger on Loki's lips, "Shhh, I enjoyed it a lot, but there's something I want to know. How far did you spy on my conversation with Sylvie?"
"Hey!" protested Loki, "I wasn't spying, well not really. I just happened to overhear some of the conversation before I went back to work! I only heard your answer about D.B. Cooper."
"Then I'll tell you what I said to Sylvie afterwards." replied Mobius softly.
"I told him that D.B. had aroused my appetite, but the one that had captured my undivided attention and made me forget about all the others was this Loki."
He underlined his words by poking Loki's nose with the tip of his forefinger.
"So yes D.B. is handsome, but he pales in comparison to you Loki. The real Loki. D.B. doesn't have those gorgeous black curls..." he ran his hands slowly through Loki's hair, and letting them run down his fingers continued, "that are soft as silk. »
He gently stroked the outline of Loki's eyes with his fingertips, "D.B. doesn't have those indescribable blue eyes that change color with light, with time and with emotion."
He ran his thumb over the lower lip of Loki's half-open mouth, "D.B. doesn't have that smile you only have for me."
He gently kissed said smile, then resting his forehead against Loki's, he said softly, "Loki, you will never have to be someone else to seduce me, hell, you don't even have to seduce me since I am already completely seduced. I was lost the day you explained to me with a sad look that your destiny was to be a villain. Because in front of me I had the real Loki. You let me see who you were."
He closed the distance between them and put his lips on Loki's.
Unlike the previous kiss, it was a gentle and almost chaste one. A kiss of oath and renewed love to which Loki responded with all his heart.
Talk about mischief turning against himself in the most beautiful way. There were no losers tonight, only two winners.
Though a little later as his head rested on Mobius' chest, he couldn't help but ask, "So, no more D.B. Cooper?"
The hand that was stroking his head, paused for a moment before resuming as Mobius whispered with a smile in his voice, "Hm... I admit the idea of being bossed around by D.B. Cooper does raise some interest..."
"Tut-tut Agent Mobius... What a naughty boy!"
Mobius pressed a kiss on Loki's forehead and said mischievously, "It's not just you who can do and be whatever you want."
Only Loki's warm laughter against his chest answered him.
Later, lulled by the sweetness of the moment, Mobius drifted off to sleep.
The last thing he felt was a light kiss from Loki on his chest, and the last thing he heard was Loki whispering against his skin, where his heart was.
"Thank you for letting me be me."

"I didn't really have your typical upbringing. I mean, I did at first, but then the world ended. I mean, I don't think anyone was really shocked. We always thought it might, and then it just finally happened. But how it happened, now that's where it gets interesting."
"Agatha 616."
"Hey! I wanted to be the one to say that. You totally just stole my thunder, Robin. As disappointing as that just was, she's right. Yep, an asteroid heading straight for Earth. I know. So obvious. So, humanity came together, and we did what we do best."
"We shot a bunch of rockets at it!"
"And we blew it up! And it was great!"
"But it wasn't."
"Once again, she's right. You see, the thing that makes rockets rockets. . .chemical compounds, a lot of 'em. Which rained back down on us, and everything changed."
"And by 'everything,' he means cold-blooded creatures. And by 'changed,' he means mutated and started eating us to death."
"Ants, lizards, roaches, crocodiles. You name it. There's a lot of 'em. Actually, we knew this one kid who was eaten in his sleep by a goldfish he won at a carnival."
"Poor Todd."
"He loved that goldfish."
"And that cat of his that got eaten."
"Rest in piece, buddy. So, for most of human history, if you wanted to kill a cockroach, right, all you needed was a shoe. Well, suddenly you needed a shotgun. And sometimes even a tank. And sometimes even that doesn't work. Especially if you don't stay in the tank, Bob."
"Bob?"
"I was just saying a random name. I don't know if his name is actually Bob."
"Then why—?"
"Y/N."
"Right. Your speech, not mine. Sorry."
"Eventually, the really big creatures and our military took each other out. We lost 95% of the human population in about a year. That's a lot of Bobs."
"And a lot of Todds."
"Exactly. Those of us who survived we hid anywhere we could — bunkers, caves, panic rooms, all around the world. So for the last seven years Y/N and I have been living in an underground bunker. And it's not as bad as it sounds. Really. It's a great group of people, and we all love each other. You know, it's kinda what I imagined college would have been like."
"Definitely not, but believe what you want. Anyways, like Joel said, we've been living in an underground bunker for the past seven years. It's not always been the best at times, but we do what we need to in order to survive. But for you to understand our story, we need to go back to the beginning. . .to the day it all happened."
"Seven years ago, back when we were sixteen."

Seven Years Ago
Fairfield, California
The last thing Y/N wanted was to wake up at 5:30 on a summer morning, yet that was exactly what happened on the day the world ended. The annoying beeping sounds filling the air were all Y/N could focus on as she came to, her eyes squeezing shut as she groaned in annoyance and shoved her face into the pillow she was laying on.
She lazily shot her hand out and attempted to reach for her alarm clock, but hesitated when her hand hit what she knew to be the lamp that sat on the table in her living room. Y/N let out a sigh before slowly opening her eyes and looking around. It took a moment for her to realize what was happening, but once she saw the tv that was still on, the pizza box laying on the table with only one slice left, and the figure beside her on the couch Y/N knew what had happened.
Groaning as she looked towards her best friend Joel Dawson who had passed out on the couch beside her, the girl lifted up a pillow before saying, "Joel. Joel, wake up." The boy didn't respond, the only noise escaping his lips being the sound of his own snores. His watch was beeping on his arm, but he didn't seem to be fazed by it.
Y/N frowned before taking the pillow she had picked up and whacking Joel with it. The boy jumped in surprise and fell off the couch and onto the floor. Y/N fell back with a satisfied sigh while Joel groaned on the ground.
"What was that for?" Joel complained, lazily sitting up and rubbing at his eyes while the two looked tiredly at each other.
"Shut that stupid watch up before I do it myself," Y/N murmured. "And by 'do it myself' I mean I'm going to destroy that little fucker so it can never beep again."
Joel cracked a small smile at that before looking down at his watch and turning it off. His eyes flickered over the time and he frowned. "It's 5:30 in the morning? Wasn't it just midnight?" he asked.
"I think we fell asleep during the middle of Civil War. That's what we get for trying to watch all the Marvel movies in a row with no sleep," she said with a yawn as she closed her eyes once again.
"We were behind anyways," Joel pointed out as he pulled himself up off of the ground and back onto the couch so that he could put on his shoes. "We wouldn't have finished before I had to leave. Speaking of which, I've got to go. Aimee should be picking me up soon and I smell like pizza and tears."
"It's not my fault you cry during almost every movie," Y/N retorted.
"They're just so good!" Joel argued making Y/N smile softly as she let her eyes open up long enough to admire the boy. He was tying his last shoe, so didn't seem to notice as she slowly ran her eyes over the features of his face. However, the moment he was sitting back up, Y/N closed her eyes to make it seem like she wasn't watching him.
Joel looked towards her and stared at her for a moment before smiling and reaching out for the blanket that was already falling off of her and onto the floor. He picked it up and shook off the crumbs from the food they had eaten before laying it on top of the girl.
"Why do you have to leave?" Y/N whispered, opening her eyes up a bit while Joel finished fixing the blanket and kneeled onto the ground in front of her. He leaned against the edge of the couch so that the two could be face to face. The lack of distance was enough to make Y/N’s heart skip a beat, but she knew Joel wasn't thinking anything of it.
"I'm just going to go see Aimee for a little bit so that we can watch the sunrise. I'll be back after, okay?" Joel said. Y/N studied him for a moment before nodding her head. The boy grinned and pulled away to get up onto his feet again. "You try and catch up on some z's while I'm gone." Y/N nodded again and Joel leaned down to press a quick kiss to her forehead, an action that made the girl close her eyes in a moment of pure bliss. "I'll be back soon, Robin."
Y/N smiled softly at the nickname Joel had given her. He liked to refer to themselves as Batman and Robin and seeing as he had insisted he was Batman in their friendship, Joel had grown to call her Robin so much over the years that it now flowed off of his tongue naturally. Y/N had never bothered arguing with Joel about who was actually Batman, instead relishing in the way Joel would flash her that goofy grin of his when he called her Robin.
Y/N got too lost in her thoughts to notice Joel walking away until she heard the sound of the front door opened and closed. She opened her eyes for a moment, her heart sinking slightly as she thought about how Joel was leaving to be with his girlfriend Aimee. However, not wanting to dwell on the fact for too long, Y/N just closed her eyes and willed herself to go back to sleep.
Even after she fell asleep, her dreams were filled of nothing but her best friend who she had found herself falling for more and more since the second grade. Not that she was complaining. This was what her life usually was like. Y/N secretly pining over Joel while he dated other girls. It was hard to see, but Y/N knew that as long as he was happy, she would be happy even if it meant they didn't end up together.
Y/N slept for quite a while, hoping she would wake up to Joel returning and hopping back onto the couch with her. However, what she wasn't expecting was for the sound of an explosion to send her jolting off the couch while her whole house shook around her.
The girl fell to the ground with a groan, but her eyes shot open wide as the ground shook again and another explosion filled the air. "What-?" she whispered before slowly pulling herself up off of the floor and looking out the window. Her eyes widened at the sight of fire in the horizon and she felt a surge of panic wash over her as she heard the screams of people filling the air as families started running out of their houses.
"Mom! Dad!" Y/N called out, her parents running down the stairs not too long after that with their pajamas still on and their eyes still fighting away the sleep that had taken over them only a couple of moments before.
Y/N could barely process what was happening after that. The next thing she knew, they were all dressed and throwing their stuff into their car. Her parents were running around and arguing over what they actually needed, so the brunette took the time to look next door where Joel's house stood. Her eyes flickered over the scene, attempting to find her best friend but only seeing his parents.
"Y/N!" Mrs. Dawson exclaimed as she caught sight of the girl. She frantically ran across the yard to her, her hands grabbing onto Y/N’s arms as she asked, "Where's Joel? Where—Where is he?"
"I-I don't know," Y/N admitted, her eyes wide with panic as she still tried to process what was happening. "He left to go see Aimee earlier this morning. He didn't tell me where they went."
Mrs. Dawson frowned and was just about to say something more when a red jeep came barreling down the road and stopped in front of the house. Mrs. Dawson released Y/N immediately while the girl let out a sigh of relief as she saw Joel stumble out of the car.
"I'm sorry!" Joel exclaimed, barely getting his feet onto the ground before Y/N was running at him and practically jumping into his arms for a hug. Joel didn't hesitate to hug her back, his grip tight as he looked towards his mother.
"Thank God! Where have you been, Joel?" his mother asked.
"We have to go right now. Say your goodbyes, get in the car," his father told them.
Y/N then seemed to noticed Aimee who was watching her warily as if she could see right through the girl's facade. She let go of Joel and squeezed his arm before nodding towards Aimee. "Go say goodbye to her. I'm going to finish packing up and then we can talk," she told him.
Y/N didn't give Joel time to respond before she was running back over to her house where her parents were now throwing the last of their things into the car. She helped toss a few more things into the car before closing the trunk with her father. "Go say goodbye, Y/N. We need to leave. Now," her father said causing Y/N to blink in surprise.
"Goodbye? Aren't we going with the Dawsons?" she asked.
"Honey, we don't know where we're going. Our priority is keeping you safe, not trying to stay with the Dawsons," her mother told her.
"But—" Y/N began.
"Y/N," her father sternly said. Y/N frowned slightly and then with a shaky breath turned to begin her way over to Joel who was staring after his girlfriend as she walked towards her jeep.
"Aimee!" he called out causing Y/N to slow down her steps as she caught sight of the look in his eyes. "I love you."
Y/N went rigid at that, the sound of Joel saying those words to someone else making her feel like she may be sick. Tears begin to spring in her eyes and she desperately tried to stop herself, but she couldn't help it. She knew Joel had dated other girls before, but hearing him proclaim his love for one was something she had never had to witness.
And it hurt.
"I love you too," Aimee told him.
"I'm gonna come find you," Joel assured her.
"You better," Aimee said before hopping into her jeep and driving away.
Y/N was still frozen in place, her tears now falling freely down her face while Joel looked her way. His heart broke at the sight of her and he didn't hesitate to run over and wrap her up in his embrace. "Hey, we're going to be okay," he whispered, thinking that her tears were because of them having to say goodbye and not because of the interaction he had just had with Aimee.
Y/N seemed to snap out of her trance at that and she gripped onto Joel tightly, her tears becoming worse as she realized this could potentially be the last time she saw her best friend. "Joel," she whimpered. "This can't be goodbye."
"Hey, hey," Joel said as he pulled away enough to wipe way her tears, his hands cupping the sides of her face. "It's not. We've survived everything together. I'm not about to let this stand in our way either. We're Batman and Robin, remember? We'll always find our way back to each other."
Y/N let her eyes flicker over Joel's face, a few more tears rolling down her cheeks before she held her hand out. "Batman," she said with a small nod.
"Robin," Joel whispered, nodding back at her as he clasped her hand with his own. They held onto each other tightly before Y/N hugged him one last time.
"I love you," she whispered, knowing very well that he didn't understand the true meaning of her words.
"I love you too. We'll find each other, okay?" he said before he noticed Y/N’s parents anxiously staring at the pair. Sighing, Joel squeezed her tight one last time before pulling away and leaning forward to press a small kiss to her forehead. "Bye, Robin." And then he gave her that small goofy smile of his that only made her heart ache more.
"Bye, Joel," she whispered, allowing herself to look at him one last time before turning and running to the car her parents were already climbing into. Y/N didn't dare look back, knowing that if she did it would only make it that much worse.
We're Batman and Robin, remember?
We'll always find our way back to each other.
- - -
"Long story short, I was right and we did find each other again. Granted it took two weeks, but—"
"Well, sorry. I didn't exactly have the colony there to pick me up when my parents died. I had to find you guys all on my own."
"And I see my mistake and I apologize. You did better than I ever could and I love you for it. You see, Y/N’s been my best friend since we were in kindergarten. Some jerk named Harley thought it would be funny to shove me off the swing set and take the swing from me. Y/N thought differently and punched him so hard he flew off the swing as if he had purposefully jumped off."
"I got sent to the principal's office right after, but I gained Joel as my best friend, so it wasn't a complete loss."
"We've been practically inseparable ever since and not even the apocalypse was able to keep us apart for too long."
"And now that you all know how our story began and a little bit about us, we can skip ahead to where we are now, seven years later in an underground bunker."
"This is where our story really begins.”

Just good friends
Tumblr media
(sinan | imagine)
request: hey, could you write a picture with Sinan and y/n have been best friends for years, and he's been in love with her, but he never counted, with the group getting closer, he feels jealous of her with Kerem, so he takes the courage to declare. please
tags: @sinanfalls @girl-looking-out-window @imtoolazytothinkofacoolname
You two met when you were thirteen.
His parents were still together and he wasn't as self-deprecating as he was when the rest met him. You were friends, talking every now and then and spending some time together because you were new and didn't really know anyone.
Then his parents abandoned him and he shut himself off, becoming a mess with dark bags under his eyes and his hair sticking out in every direction. But, you were the only one who still stayed at his side, even more than the flask he always carried.
You were a breath of fresh air in the middle of the people who either pitied him or were simply annoyed by his remarks. You thought they were funny, even if you got upset whenever he got into trouble or he turned up late to school, dismissing his teacher quickly before slumping on his seat next to you and falling asleep. There wasn't much you could do, only take notes for him and empty his flask when he wasn't looking.
It didn't take long for you two to be attached to the hip, your entire day was spent on his house or yours were you two would watch TV, force him to do his homework or eat, and simply strengthening your friendship.
It was the day he almost burned down the whole auditorium everything changed.
You were leaning against a wall in the hall, waiting patiently even if everyone had already left for their houses. The last time you had seen Sinan he had been standing in the middle of the stage with a fire behind him before being taken by a teacher to an empty classroom before deciding whether he would be expelled or not.
You saw Işik, another one of your classmates, leave the teachers' room with a frown on her face. However, you didn't have time to ask her what had happened when Sinan left the room shortly after.
"How did it go?" You asked walking alongside him, ignoring the three other kids who also walked out of the room.
He only shrugged, causing you to roll your eyes. "I'm not expelled. Yet." He stated like it was obvious.
You sighed in relief, your eyes softening while you two walked out of school towards the pier. Still, your calmness didn't last for long.
"Why would you do that? I know there was a fight but you can't just burn down the whole fucking auditorium, you idiot." You scolded him, each sentence punctuated with a slap on his arm.
He grabbed your wrist to stop you from continuing to hit him, a scowl on your face for how reckless he had acted while he only took a sip of his flask.
"I can't say I'm sorry for something I didn't do." He said emotionless, waiting for you to take a seat next to him on the ferry.
He glanced at you after a few seconds while you remained silent. "Why does it affect you so much? I don't care about being expelled."
"Well, I do." You admitted still frustrated. "I don't want them to expel my best friend, what would I do without you? God."
His cheeks heated up, looking down at the ground so you wouldn't notice. Even if you had said that he was only your friend, your best friend, it still felt nice that someone cared for him.
You could only stay angry at him for a few minutes, the ferry slowing down as it reached its stop. You turned to him with a smile. "Can we buy some baklava? I waited for you and I couldn't have lunch."
He nodded, the faintest of smiles on his face as you stood up from your seat and grabbed his hand to hurry and arrive at his house on time to feed his grandpa and dog.
It all started to go downhill the next day, when you two found out Miss Burcu would be transferring schools and he would end up being expelled. Even if he didn't care, you wouldn't allow that, so you went to his house to find some kind of solution. It turned out that your other classmates, Eda, Osman, and Kerem, also wanted to avoid their expulsion, so you all started working together to set up Miss Burcu with another teacher so she would marry and stay in Istanbul.
You got closer to the group, and even if you weren't sure why, Sinan didn't seem fond of the idea. He seemed to always be bickering with Kerem, only stopping once you elbowed him so he wouldn't get into a fight, already knowing that he didn’t care but you did.
Still, it puzzled you why he acted like that only with Kerem. He didn't seem to care if you became friends with Eda and Işik, who were quick to point that out.
"So?" Eda asked the day of the rock concert, Sinan nowhere to be seen and the other boys in the line.
You handed your ticket to the guard. "So what?" You asked confused.
She rolled her eyes. "What's up with you and Sinan?"
You shrugged, Isik approaching both of you while you waited for Miss Burcu. "He's my best friend. We've been for years, he's like a brother to me." You quickly brushed it off.
"You seem more than friends, (Y/N)" Işik pointed out. "You're always together, he never snaps at you and you care about him."
You groaned, dealing with those kinds of questions almost every day at school and even from your parents. “Uf, Işik, not you too.”
"One day I literally saw you two passed out on his couch with your head on his lap and his arm around your waist, that's not something just friends do. Spare us the bullshit." Eda carried on.
You bit the inside of your cheek, trying not to show how concerned you were starting to get when he didn't seem to show up. "I'm just really comfortable around him."
And that was the truth. Or at least, part of it. Sinan mattered too much to you to ever try to pursue anything. You didn't want to lose him and you knew he wasn't the best with his feelings, so you simply brushed it off and tried to act as normal as possible. You knew something happened to you when you were close to him, and it was a different feeling from when you were close with Kerem or other boys. A better feeling.
“Hi! Sorry I’m late, Kerem passed by my house and I already waited for you for like ten minutes.” You said, a smile on your face as you sat on a desk in front of Sinan.
It was recess, but most days he didn’t go out in the courtyard and stayed on an empty classroom to sleep or read a book in silence. You usually did the same, even if sometimes you both talked until class started.
He didn’t answer you, his eyes fixated on a page you were sure he wasn’t reading or was taking too long to turn.
“Why didn’t you pick me up today? Did something happen?” You asked taking the book out of his hands.
“No.” He answered shortly before grabbing back his book.
His answer kind of relieved you, but you still felt unsure about why he hadn’t picked you up by your house as he had done for the last three years. The only times he hadn’t was when you were sick, you got up earlier than him or he was passed out on a bench on a random park.
“Anyway.” You started trying not to focus on the tension between both of you, the only ones who were in the room. “Are we going to have lunch at my house? I don’t mind skipping gym today. God, I’m so tired, the other day Kerem was playing basketball because he was kicked out from the team which sucks and...”
“Don’t you have anything else to do?” He interrupted you.
You frowned your brows, feeling your heart drop at his words. “What’s up with you today? You’ve been weird the last few days.”
“Weren’t you too busy with the caveman to notice?” He asked sarcastically, a scowl on his face as he finally looked at you.
“Why are you such a jerk to him? He didn’t do anything to you.” You insisted hoping to get an honest answer.
When he didn’t reply, you continued. “Are you jealous?”
As you stared at him trying to decipher his expression, he shallowed before turning his gaze back to his book. “No, why would I? Don’t be stupid.”
You sighed exasperated, fed up with his snarky comments. “You always do this when I talk to you about a boy.”
He shut his book, “Why? You want us to talk about boys and braid our hair?” He asked with a dry tone glaring at you.
“I don’t want you to act like an asshole whenever I want to have a conversation with you about someone I like.” You shot back, arms crossed.
When you realized his face softened at what you had said, you thought he would apologize for behaving like a brat in the last days. Instead, he avoided your gaze and continued speaking. “You like Kerem?”
“Are you fucking kidding me, Sinan?” You asked incredulously. “God, you’re so...”
You meant to say oblivious, not believing how the boy couldn’t realize that you could only have feelings for him, being by his side every time he needed it.
He scoffed. “Go with your other friends if you want to talk about your crushes so badly.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
His jaw clenched as you stood up from the desk, grabbing your bag next to his in anger before leaving it next to one of your friend’s and leaving the room.
Truth be told, your anger lowered during class, feeling a bit bad once you realized that he spent the entire lesson alone.
“What happened? Why’s he looking at you like a lost puppy?” Eda whispered to you.
You resisted the urge to turn around and see if Eda was telling the truth, so you only continued taking notes. “He’s acting like an asshole.”
She was silent for a moment before nodding, continuing with her drawing while you felt a pit in the bottom of your stomach.
Of course, you had a few fights with Sinan, but most of the time you two didn’t say anything and started talking back again after a while. The longest you had spent without talking was only one hour, but now you ignored him for the whole day.
Still, you couldn’t help a small smile on your face when you opened your door on your house to find him standing in front of you with a bag of food, possibly baklava.
“Everything’s fine now?” You asked.
He nodded, embracing you in a hug that caught you off guard, but you only stood on your tiptoes and hugged him back.
“Bit unexpected. And they say you aren’t affectionate.” You chuckled before pressing a kiss on his cheek.
You took the bag out of his hands before going towards your kitchen, not noticing how his cheeks heated up.
A few days passed and he tried his best not to snap at Kerem. The rest had already noticed the way he seemed to look at you, and even if they urged him to confess his feelings, he still felt unsure about it, feeling like he was going to fuck it up.
With the plan, you had managed to convince Burcu and Kemal to work together for the May 19 celebration, and after spinning around under the boiling sun, you left your umbrella on the ground before heading to your bag to drink water.
On the other side of the courtyard, Sinan took a gulp of his flask. It had to be now before he regretted it. After almost finishing his drink, he made his way towards you, grabbing your arm and taking you away while the rest of the students glanced at both of you curiously.
“What the fuck?” You asked confused once he stopped.
You were in the back of the school, the place were you had reunited with the rest for the last days, but now you were alone.
“I’m sorry for dragging you here.” He started, feeling his hands shaking before leaving them in his pockets. “But I needed to tell you something.”
You nodded, waiting expectantly for him to continue while you leaned against the wall.
“You’re making me nervous, come on. You can tell me anything.” You added, your hand going to his to try to calm him a bit.
He took a deep breath before staring at the ground. “I love you.”
You smiled. “Aw, I love you too, Sinan. You already know that.” You said like it was obvious, your voice trailing off once he sighed and looked at you in your eyes. “Why are you looking at me like that?” You asked confused, absentmindedly rubbing your thumb against the back of his hand.
“Because I am in love with you, (Y/N).”
You dropped his hand in shock by how serious he seemed to be, finally understanding his words. Before he could regret it, in one swift motion he placed his hands on your cheeks and smashed his lips against yours.
Your head felt dizzy with all the emotions you were going through. You wanted to continue like that for hours, but after a few seconds, he pulled away to allow for both of you to catch your breaths.
You leaned your forehead against him, your lips forming into a smile. “I love you too. More than a friend.”

"Are you serious? You really did that?" Danika asked, grinning with wide eyes.
Jacqueline roared with laughter, nodding.
"Yup" was all Krysa had to say.
They were on the road again, with Krysanthe driving this time while Jac hung out in the passenger side and Danika kept her place in the backseat. The heiress had gotten hungry and started snacking on the food her aunt had packed for her which consisted of bread and homemade dip, fruits and little brownie slices. At the sound of crunching Jac immediately turned in her seat to see what was making the noise and when Danika realized Jac was watching her, she offered her treats without hesitation. To which Jacqueline descended upon with much gusto. The brunette, as she devoured Danika's food, would feed Krysanthe too.
As they continued to eat and began talking, they relaxed more and more around each other eventually getting into deeper topics.
One topic in particular, that was surprising to Danika, was the incident that made Krysa say no initially.
"Then what happened?" Danika scooted closer.
"Okay so on the way from the party with my friends, or the people who I thought were my friends, stopped at Gilded because Rhian asked me to bring her some documents. She had thought that I was at study date and I didn't want to tell her the truth. I always felt like she saw me as someone else, she had expectations of me and I didn't want to disappoint her." Krysa paused "Anyway, we got to the store and we've been drinking so you know this won't end well" she gave a humourless chuckle.
'My friends thought it would be fun to keep drinking, I got pressured into it and then I blacked out. When I woke, Rhian was there and I had never seen her look so furious." she said "We trashed the whole place and my so called friends, uh, " she paused, tilting her head up slightly, squinting "Th-threw me under the bus?" she turned to Jac who nodded, tossing another grape in her mouth.
"I was in real trouble but Rhian, even though she didn't have to, helped ease my punishment so I just had a lot of community service hours. Since then I was no longer allowed to come into the shop without Rhian there."
"I'm sorry, Krysa. That must have been hard" Danika said quietly.
"No, no I deserved that" Krysa insisted
"But it's been years" Jacqueline argued "You think she would go easier on you now"
"I broke her trust, Jac. That isn't an easy thing to forgive"
Jac didn't respond right away "...you're also talking about that guy from London, right?"
Krysa's head snapped to Jac's direction to glare at her.
"What's the deal with this guy anyway? Bad break-up?" Danika asked
Jacqueline grinned as Krysa's glare slowly turned annoyed. The curly blonde let out an exasperated sigh but relented. "I met him when I was attending university in London. I was working as a waitress at the time, and he saved me from some grabby customers."
Danika watched in amazement as Krysa's cheeks darkened, she saw Jac's eyes widened from the rearview mirror and both girls shared a look. The man who made Krysanthe blush must have been really special to her.
"Our situation wasn't exactly stable. After graduation I would be coming home to the Isle and he was there to temporarily oversee the security of his cousin's new building after that he was supposed to go home so we tried to just be friends but..."
"You caught feelings!" Jac squealed
"Yes. Another problem was that we butted heads often, he was a bit of grouch and he thought I was a little stuck up"
The other two girls shared another look but otherwise stayed silent.
"It was the night of my graduation where things blew up. We argued, he went to work and after a while I decided to see him and apologize, when I got there I overheard him talking about me and what he said made me feel horrible. I left without seeing him, packed up and headed back to Ireland that very night" she finished nonchalantly with a shrug.
"Dude, that sucks. I had no idea" Jac breathed "Did he ever look for you?"
Krysa shook her head "Not to my knowledge"
Danika bit her lip, there was nothing she could say that felt appropriate. The heiress was at a loss, this wasn't a situation she was familiar with. All the youngest of the three could do was squeeze Krysa's arm comfortingly.
Krysanthe looked startled when Danika did this but then smiled reassuringly at her for a moment before turning her attention to the road.
"Guys, it's okay I don't-"the florist squeaked when a loud noise suddenly erupted behind them and fought to control the car. The truck screeched to a stop on the side of the road.
Jac and Krysa both went out to check on their situation.
Danika jumped when she heard Jacqueline swear loudly, causing her to come out as well. She saw Krysa standing at the side eyeing the side while she crossed her arms
Danika then saw Jacqueline opening the trunk.
The blonde moved closer and gasped at the sight of the blown tire "What can we do?"
Jacqueline didn't answer, instead she climbed the back of the truck and rolled a spare tire to the edge "Well you can sit your pretty butt to the side and let us handle this". Krysa moved forward to take the tire, grunting as she lifted it out of the truck and stumbled to set it down.
"Could you teach me?" Danika asked "To change a tire I mean"
Jac and Krysa paused to stare at the younger blonde, a big grin spread across Jacqueline's face while Krysanthe had an intrigued look on her face.
"Alright, kid." Jac reached back into the truck an odd looking X shaped tool "Get ready for a life skill lesson"
A little while later, with Jac's eventual intervention, Krysa's truck had a new tire and Danika learned the basics of tire changing.
The two blondes gave a cheer when Jac finished tightening the last bolt.
"We are ready to go" the tallest of the three grunted before pulling the wrench away. "Let's just load up the stuff and we'll get going"
Danika moved forward to help her when a feeling came over her, cold sweat began to bead at her forehead, she shuddered at the feeling of eyes watching her. The blonde turned, but all she saw was the shrubbery and trees.
A dark presence was within those woods, Danika turned back to Jac and Krysa the brunette was fine and unaffected by the presence in the woods but Krysa looked uneasy, peeking at the woods from the corner of her eye.
The unease never went away from either girls, not that Jac noticed, even as they drove away from that place, a the dark presence followed behind. Taglist: @mel-writes-with-her-dragons @woodhousejay @dustylovelyrun

"Here's the birth certificate. It has nothing about her parents on it as you suggested." I gave the man standing beside me, who had grown to be a brother to me, a quick, but satisfied, grunt of approval.
"Thank you. Keep this between us and I'll keep up my end of the deal." Quintin gave me a questioning side glance. I knew he didn't appreciate me bringing up the past but I needed him to keep this between us.
"I don't see why you won't be honest to her. For all we know she might be like you..." I knew what he was suggesting, but I refused to listen. She won't be like me. She can't be like me. I waved him away, annoyance clear as day across my face. He will be annoyed too. We both have secrets. I just don't know whose is worth more.
_________________________________________
Today....
Today is possibly the worst day I'll have in my life. I'm honestly not sure.
Today I officially turn 18 which, unluckily for me, means I have to add another thing to my job description.
Isaieth adopted me when I was born because my father died and it caused my mum to become a drunk. I don't exactly blame her for leaving and forgetting her troubles with a drink. But I also can't say I'm fond of it. I love Isaieth with all my heart, he feels like an actual father to me. But I sometimes wish I had an actual mother to help me grow as well.
When I was born my father died. No one told me how, I just know it was traumatic enough to make my mother a drunk. Isaieth adopted me when I was 2 after he had an accident that caused him to be deaf and partially blind. He wasn't fit for work anymore so the second I turned an age where I can go to the toilet by myself he taught me how to tend his farm. He makes a business by selling wheat that he grows and whatever we can get from the few animals we own. When I was 16 I found an abandoned lamb who we later discovered was a merino sheep. Merino sheep are, in my opinion, the best sheep you can get. Their carcasses are smaller than the average sheep so they aren't used for meat but rather for the wool that they grow. The average amount of wool the sheep grows is 11kg which is enough for about 11 sweaters. Aswell as the sheep we have 2 chickens, both of which are female. They were actually, in some ways, a gift from the king. The king and Isaieth are best friends almost from birth. They both grew up in royalty but only the king kept it that way. Isaieth was the son of a knight, and so in turn, Isaieth was also a knight. The king was born a prince and then was assigned a knight who happened to be Isaieth. One of the times when Isaieth was protecting the king he ended up getting seriously injured and the king fired him for his own safety. The king doesn't exactly care for the knight's wellbeing but because they were friends he decided a knight was too dangerous for Isaieth. After the event the king offered him a plot of land on the outskirts of the city that was run down and abandoned but had potential for a farm. Isaieth's dream as a boy was to grow old and have his own farm, so like any friend the king got him his own farm. Because of the friendship and countless times Isaieth saved his life our rent was greatly reduced and we were offered a permanent job to make sure we always had the money to pay rent. The job included selling off our produce from the animals. The eggs given to Isaieth was originally just starter food but Isaieth decided to keep them and let them hatch instead. When they grew to be quite old he kept a few of the last eggs they would hatch and did the same thing. The hens we have now are 1 years old, or will be in a few days. We don't get much from our farm but because of the discount on rent sometimes we have enough money to spare to get nice things. The average price of rent can go up to 100 gold.
(100 gold is like 1k, the money in this story is, bronze= pence or cents or whatever is the lowest in your country, silver= pounds or dollars etc and gold= the hundreds +. In simpler terms, but in GBP ((Great British Pounds)) terms, 1 bronze= 1 pence, 1 silver= 1 pound and 1 gold= 100 pound.)
Ours however got put down to 45 gold. It's still a lot that we just about make each month but we're still thankful that he even gave us this place to begin with. He didn't actually have to.
It's also lucky that our farm works well with rent times. Each month you have to go to the castle and pay your rent. If you dont have enough or you skip it they go to your house and either take a child, that becomes their servent who has to work for the money you didn't pay, or they take some belongings that you don't get back unless you pay extra. Luckily we've never seen it first hand but one of my childhood friends ended up becoming a servent from it. I haven't seen her since. Our wheat takes a month to grow so we've always got that to keep our money up. Unfortunately wheat sells cheap, one wheat grain sells for 30 bronze. Every month we grow, on average, 700 wheat grains but have to keep back 350 to replant so we can get 350 the next month too. So on average every month with wheat alone we make 10 gold and 5 silver. Which by itself is almost a quarter of our rent. Replanting and harvesting wheat is one of the most tedious jobs of farming, but maintaining is by far the easiest. You only have to water the plant at most once in summer but otherwise never. All you really have to do is make sure the plant isn't dying and be on your way. The worst job I have is turning the sheeps pelt into wool. She doesn't like to be milked so doing that is an annoyance but I dread making wool the most out of all the farm jobs I have. Next to maintaining the crop the hens are the easiest too. They lay at least one egg everyday, the only thing I have to do is collect the eggs without breaking them and make sure the hens are well fed and have fresh air. With making wool you have to flatten the pelt completely and then tie the strands together to make a really long piece of wool that I have to cut and ball up. It's the worst job on the entire farm but I can't say I hate doing it. My favourite thing is balling it all up after dying it. I'm just thankful all these things take a month to do or we'd be screwed on rent every month.
(Realistically these don't actually take a month, I researched so much to make the story as legit as possible but for story sake I tweaked the timing. Hens do lay one egg a day at least, if properly cared for and also depending on breed. But wheat takes a LOT longer to grow and you can only shave a sheep once a year. I changed the timing of it all tho or I'd have to be even more creative with money and stuff and tbh I'd rather not. Coming up with these ideas for the farm was hard enough.)
On average you get 2 balls of yarn out of 1kg of wool. Luckily for us our merino sheep produces 11kg of wool giving us 22 balls of yarn. 1 ball of yarn sells for 1 gold, so for 22 balls of yarn we make 22 gold. Personally I think it's extremely expensive but it does make sense considering there aren't many sheep around, which also means clothes, blankets and shoes are harder to get. On average with the hens we get 2 eggs a day. 1 egg sells for 25 silver, meaning the 2 we make in a day gives us 50 silver. There's 28 days in a month meaning with eggs alone we make 14 gold. Altogether in one month we usually make roughly 46 gold. As good of an amount as that is, 45 of it has to go to the king, leaving us with roughly 1 gold left. Because we're human and need to eat, bathe and clothe ourselves just like everyone else, whatever's left gets spent on stuff like that. On average every month we spend about 50 silver on food. I have my own plant pots in my room that we use for our own food. There's only 2 of them but in one plant pot I grow strawberries and in the other I grow raspberries. Truth be told if I sold the strawberries and raspberries we'd probably be richer but honestly, we're both kinda used to this life and although we don't have everything we want, we have everything we need. Besides the fruits take 2 months to grow and because of my reputation people would refuse to buy them for their actual price. They just about accept the other things, if fruits were in the mix I'd probably get death glares and 1 bronze for a batch. It doesn't bother me too much though because with whatever odd bit of wheat we had spare from the 700 odd we plant and sell we use that to make bread or pastry, so every 2 months we make the fruits into a jam or crush them and make a pie. My all time favourite activity is making them into pies or bread and jam with Isaieth. It's the only thing we can properly do together. He helps me replant and harvest the wheat sometimes because there's so much of it but usually he just watches from afar. His eye sight is getting worse the older he gets so he helps less and less. It saddens me because I know he doesn't want to go fully blind, we wouldn't be able to communicate at all and what kind of life are you living if you can't see or hear anything. You might as well be dead at that point or you'd be so throughly confused.
Getting back on track. Today is a bad day because it's the first day where I have to pay for the rent. I've been a few times with Isaieth as a child but I've never gone alone. It's an adults job and should only be done by an adult. But today, aswell as being my birthday, it's also rent day. Isaieth didn't actually want me to do it but I insisted knowing that he would have severe trouble doing it himself. And what's more is that I have to go alone to sell our produce now aswell. I don't put any blame on him and I especially will never complain. But in my head I can feel bitter about the situation.
I look forward to the day.....
...
No I don't.

Chapter One - Double Lives AU
Prologue | Next Chapter
One Year Later
Patton's POV
Blackberry Cafe 2:30 PM
"Virgil, where are the rest of the cookies from this batch?"
"What do you mean?" Virgil shouted from the bathroom. "That's all of the ones from that batch."
"What do you mean that's all the cookies from that batch?! The recipe makes over 30 cookies, but there's only 2!"
"I just sampled some of the cookie dough!"
"Some?"
"Most of the cookie dough..."
"For the love, Virgil. Why?" Ding! The bell at the front of the store rang across the store.
"Hello, welcome to Blackberry Cafe. Can I help you - oh, hi Roman!"
"Hey Pat, can I get the usual?"
Virgil came out of the back, "depends, are you gonna pay this time?"
"Probably not," he admits. I package up two cookies and three scones and hand them to him.
"Two chocolate chip cookies and three rosemary ham and cheese scones, on the house!"
"Patton, no," Virgil sighs. "I was trying to get him to pay for once. He can't just always get free food."
"That's just the perks of having an little brother who owns a cafe," Roman states with a wink.
"Plus, if I didn't give it to him, he probably wouldn't eat until dinner."
"Well maybe that would teach him to pack a lunch," Virgil reasoned. "Or better yet, actually pay."
"But he's hungry..." I pout at him for a minute before Roman cleared his throat.
"So, guys, me and Logan are going on a date tonight, if you guys are interested in joining us...?" Virgil looks at me. "It's up to you guys, of course, you don't have to, if you don't want to."
He trailed off, looking at the two of us. I shrugged, "I have work off tonight, so it shouldn't be a problem for me. What do you think Virg?"
"I don't think I have work. Sure, why not," Virgil looked at me with a smile. "We could use a date night anyway."
Roman gave us a big smile. "So, we've got a reservation for nine, so let's plan to meet up at my place around...eight, eight thirty?"
"Wait, you were planning on us coming?" Virgil sighed in frustration over the fact that his brother made the reservation without knowing if they could come. "Let's do eight, just to be on the safe side."
"Awesome," Roman said, walking towards the door. "See you later, then?"
"See you later!" I shout, waving to him.
"I can't believe he didn't ask us first! What if we couldn't have made it?"
"Then they would have a slightly bigger table," I say. Virgil looked very worked up. "It's fine."
"Yeah, but still."
"Now," I say, placing a hand on my hip. "Mind sharing why exactly you ate almost an entire batch of cookie dough?"
Time Skip
The Black-Berry Residence 7:30 PM
"Hey Virg? What do you think of this tie?" I shout across the apartment.
"I don't know, it would be a lot easier to tell if you weren't on the other side of the house." He sounded stressed.
I walk out of our bedroom into the living room and do a little twirl. "How do I look?"
Virgil seemed to be at a lack for words. "You look great," Virgil admitted. I wasn't wearing much, just some slacks and a loose blouse. I added a small blue bow to match my shirt. It was slightly fancier than my usual attire, but Virgil seemed to like it. We stared at each other for a moment. Nothing was said, but a comfortable silence filled the air. And then my phone rang. It pierced through the air with a certain, yet annoying ring.
I sighed, "one second." I picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey, we need you to come in." I walked back into bedroom.
"I'm sorry, what?!"
"Look, I'm sorry, sir, but we need you to come in."
"No way, it's date night!" I protest. "I've got plans. Call someone else in."
"It is imperative that you come in to work," the man on the other end insisted.
"What could be so important that you need me too come in on my one day off," I demanded. "I mean, honestly, it's bad enough that -"
"Dracowitch. We have a lead on Dracowitch."
"Draco -" I shout, before lowering my voice. "Dracowitch? But how? He's been off the radar for months now."
"Which is why you need to come in. You are the best man we have."
I sighed, "fine. You better be paying overtime for this."
"Once the job is done, we will. But you must get here as soon as possible."
"I'll be there."
"Good. Farewell, and may you be fruitful."
"As to help the company grow," I say, finishing our company motto, before hanging up. Walking back into the living room, "so bad news," I look at Virgil, who had just hung up a from his own phone call. "Oh, who was that?"
"What, oh, I was just on the phone with Roman. So, what were you saying?"
"Oh, yeah. Unfortunately, I just got called into work. They need someone at the shelter for a few hours. Something about someone being delayed at the airport...? I don't know. All I know, is that I have to go to work because no one else answered the call." I felt bad lying to Virg, but I couldn't just tell him the truth. Honestly, I wanted to tell him the truth, I really did, but it was against the rules and could put him in danger. If something were to happen to him because of me, I couldn't live with the guilt.
"Oh, that sucks," he says. "Honestly, I want looking forward to sitting in a fancy restaurant and paying 50 bucks for spaghetti, anyway."
He was trying to make me feel better about the whole situation, bless his heart. This is why I love him, he was willing to do anything to make me happy and that, I lived for. Virgil restores my faith in humanity, no matter what happens, he finds a way to cheer me up.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, it's fine. I'll call Roman back and explain. You go to work."
"Okay. Thank you." I head back into the bedroom for the third time that night to get changed. I get changed and grab my bag. "I love you," I say giving him a quick kiss.
"Love you, too. Now, go take care of those dogs like no one had taken care of them before!"
I giggle. "Be back in a few hours!" I say before closing the door.
Virgil's POV
Patton closed the door. I look out the window, watching for his car to leave. A blue Prius passes by the window. Correction, Patton's blue Prius passes by the window. I watch as it rounds the corner. Poor Patton. I knew he was looking forward to this. We hardly get to go on dates anymore.
I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. Someone was calling me. Again. The first time was Roman and now it was, I look at the caller ID, work. Of course, work always picks the worst times to call. I hesitate for a moment, before picking up.
"Hello?"
"Hey, you need come here, like right now," the person on the other line spoke quickly and sharply, while also sounding rather rushed.
"What? Why?"
"We got a lead on Dracowitch and they put Morality on it. You're his backup, so you need to get here."
"Are they sure it's Dracowitch?"
"Yep. And this is the only good lead we've had in weeks, if not months."
"Alright, I'll be there in about half an hour."
"I said now."
"That's the soonest I cam be there," I insist.
"You live approximately eight minutes away, therefore you will be here in ten minutes. This is more than enough time."
"Fine, I'll be there in a few."
"Be there in five. Farewell and help guide the path."
"To lead the company to greatness."
And with that, I grabbed the keys to my car, a dark blue Honda, and ran out the door. I hopped down the flight of stairs at the front door and popped the trunk. Taking out an extra shirt, I close the trunk and climb in the car.
I hate my job, I really do. If I had the choice to just stay home, I would, but the bakery doesn't bring in enough money. So, I work for the 'print shop' and Patton has been helping by working at the local animal shelter.
My real job most definitely pays well, but it's not something that I would openly tell people about. Even if it wouldn't result in me getting fired. I am...a hacker, in a way. The term that the company hired us under is 'Personal Guide'. Which was true, we do guide people, just not the disabled and elderly. Think more along the lines of hitmen and assassins.
Our job is simple. Aide our assigned partner through their missions by briefing them on the mission, hacking into the security of buildings, giving them directions, and letting them know if anyone was up ahead. Typical hacker things. Oh, and keeping track of their location, incase they need backup. Typically, your partner will need backup occasionally, four to five months is the company average. But I've never had to call backup. Maybe it's luck, but I'm almost certain it's not.
I believe it's my partner, rather than luck. He is literally the best assassin this company has. When they paired us up, everyone was curious as to why. Based on all the rumors flying around, this guy was a legend. No one truly understood why he had been paired with a newbie with no prior experience in anything related to computers or the company.
Until they saw us work together. We just clicked. I would have locked doors slide open as he approached them, as he responded with the witty pun that made me groan. In the middle of missions, we shared our stories about life outside of the company. We'd swap jokes and recipes, recommend restaurants for the other to try, we literally would just talk about anything. Morality, as he was called, was the only thing that made this horrible job worthwhile.
Our current target was an online personality by the name of Dracowitch. It seemed to be a German, or possibly Russian name, seeing as it was pronounced Draco-vitch. They've been untraceable, up until now.
I pull up to the print shop. Even though the store was a small local business, it seemed to be bustling with life. The lights were on and about half a dozen people were running around doing various things.
Taking a deep breath in, I walk inside and straight to the counter, where a man sat, attempting to hide the fact that he was watching cartoons with a book. I cleared my throat, before simply giving him a "hey."
"Ah, Mr. Black-Berry. I don't believe you have work tonight," the man said, pausing his show and closing his book.
"Got called in."
"I see, your husband must be mad."
"Doesn't know, he got called in too, so I left after he did."
"Be careful with that. Do it one too many times, you'll get accused of cheating. I did that once and she signed us up for therapy."
"Oh, how is the Mrs.?"
"She's fine. Been a bit better since therapy."
"That's good. Well, have a good night, Larry. Say hi to Dot for me!"
"Will do!" And with that he pressed a button under his desk. The door behind him slid open, revealing an elevator to the basement.
End of Chapter One.

EX Crush ?
Reader X Jeno
I was waiting for my bus. It was raining lightly. I regretted wearing shorts, it was freezing cold though the rain was not that heavy. I rubbed my hands together to gather some warmth.
I tip toed to see if my bus was coming. Nothing. I sighed and took my phone out.
9 minutes
I sighed again. 9 more minutes to endure this cold. I scrolled my timeline for a bit before looking up to see if my bus was finally coming.
I froze the moment I looked right. Not because of the cold, but because I saw someone who I have not seen in years.
My heart skipped a bit.
Jeno Lee?
I looked away when he faced towards my direction.
Jeno and I lived in the same neighbourhood since we were younger. He always came to my house for playdates. His mother was my Aunt's friend. So she was my mom's friend too.
He was a cute and a sweet boy. He was caring.
I had a crush on him.
Though we lived in the same neighbourhood, we rarely see each other due to our different schedules.
So it was shocking to see him here, at the busstop, waiting for the bus to bring him home.
I tried to look away from him but damn, puberty hit him like a truck. He was sooooo hot. Definitely hotter than when he was small.
A few seconds later, his bus came. I could ride the same bus but I would have to walk further , but it was not my best option as it was raining.
I decided to just step to the side to make space for the people who were boarding the bus.
I swore my face turned crimson when Jeno walked right in front of me. Unfortunately, he didn't see me.
Wait, I don't even know if he recognised me. I used to have really long hair when I was younger. Now, my hair is only shoulder length.
I shrugged and watched him board. I looked at the road to see if my bus was coming. I sighed again when I saw another bus coming.
I face the front back and almost dropped my phone. JENO LEE WAS STANDING BY THE WINDOW INSIDE, I WAS STANDING BY THE WINDOW OUTSIDE.
I gulped when he looked up and made eye contact with me.
His face was shocked ?
Did he recognise me?
He smiled and gave a small wave.
I hesitated but ended up waving back at him and gave a shy smile.
My heart almost leaped out my ribcage when I saw him smirked as his bus started going.
Few minutes later, I finally boarded my bus.
Why am I thinking about him? He was my EX crush. The crush I had when I was younger.
Do I still have a crush on him? Have I been missing him all these while and decided to just brush it off?I shook off the thoughts and plugged in my earplugs.
I alighted at the 3rd stop and decided to buy some bread from the nearby bakery. I tried to walk extra careful because I've been tripping over my own foot these days, and the rainy weather was not helping.
I was relieved when I reached the bakery. The warmth I wanted. I quickly picked some bread and put them on my tray.
After finished choosing, I decided to hurry to the cashier before the queue became long. As I was walking, I accidentally tripped on my own shoe.
*shit, please don't fall*
I thought as I tried to balance my tray, to safe my bread.
Just as my last bread was about to fall, a tray caught it.
I sighed in relief. I looked up to thank the person but my voice got caught in my throat.
It was freaking Jeno Lee.
He smiled and put my bread on my tray.
"You better be careful, Nara,".
Shit. Did he just called my name?
"Uh uh, Th--thank you Jeno,".
He looked at me with an unreadable expression.
Did I say something bad?
" Jeno?". He asked.
I was confused. He is Jeno right? No one is as handsome as him, oh.
"Je--Jeno Oppa." .
He was a year older. Now I remember why I was always annoyed with him despite him being my crush. He insisted me on calling him Oppa though our age gap was not that big.
He finally smiled. He took my tray and put it on the counter.
"Today is your special day, I'm paying for you,". He said and winked.
I was just staring at him, shocked.
He chuckled and paid for the breads before handing mine to me.
"Th-thank you , once again," I breathed out.
Jeno patted my head with an eyesmile.
We started walking together. His house was a few blocks away from mine.
"So what are you doing now?". He started.
I gulped and tried not to stutter.
"I--I'm doing my diploma right now. How about you?".
Jeno nodded and faced me.
"Me too, I'm graduating this year. Not forget to come okay?". Jeno suddenly invited.
I blinked and nodded slowly.
"You know Nara, though we've been apart for years, I would never forget my childhood bestfriend. I was so happy when I saw you. It did took me seconds to recognise you because of your new hairstyle. You're still as beautiful as ever!".
I bit my lips to avoid smiling too widely.
"I--I also didn't forget you. I am happy that you could recognise me despite my short hair.".
We continued walking and catching up with each other.
We finally reached my house.
"So we'll see each other when we see each other?". I asked.
Jeno chuckled and shook his head.
"Give me your phone.". Jeno reached out his hand.
I hesitated but gave him anyway. His phone suddenly rang.
"There, I saved my number as Jeno Oppa. This way we can contact each other more and maybe meet each other more too,". He said and winked.
I stared at my phone.
Jeno patted my head again before waving a bye.
"I'll text you aites, I'll go first! Bye Nara! It was nice meeting you after a long time,".
I waved back and thanked him once again for the breads.
Maybe having Jeno Lee as my crush is not that bad after all.
Jeno Lee is officially my crush , ex crush is so yesterday.
