#I'd be happy to take a photo from my copy of the book

Daguerreotype of two men, affectionately entwined, circa 1845-50. Source: Dear Friends: American Photographs of Men Together, 1840-1918 by David Deitcher. This book is also available to read for free on Open Library, though the scan quality is a little rough. I've just acquired a used copy and it's so worth it, not only for the many lovely reproductions but also for Deitcher's writing, which is beautiful and I imagine very relevant to the interests of many viewers of this tumblr:
Anonymity, and the uncertainty it perpetuates, facilitate a kind of pleasure that would be more difficult to sustain under the potentially harsh, and always more limiting, details of a more concrete historical intelligence. Research into the gay history of nineteenth-century London prompted one writer to ask: "Do we view it with dismay, since it is a record of sorrow, of powerlessness, a record of lives wrecked? Or is it possible to read even these texts, written as they were by journalists, policemen and court clerks, with delight, as precious traces of dangerous, pleasurable, complicated gay lives?" Uncertain of anything that actually transpired between the men in such a photograph, the collector is free to imagine whatever he pleases. Immersed in their appearance, he remains ignorant of any tragedy that might have befallen them, or of any crime they may have committed or been punished for.

Hi Sam! Recently diagnosed midlife ADHDer here. First, thanks for talking about your ADHD & sharing what you’re figuring out. It’s super helpful to someone on a similar trajectory.
I just saw a reference to your photo books for the first time & it seems like a great way to help with memory issues that come with ADHD (like I know I did [x thing] but when?). Could you talk a little about the process of collecting photos & such all year & then how you create one?
Thank you!
Ey, happy to have helped! Congrats and sympathies on your diagnosis. And honestly it's good for me too, talking all this out, it helps me get my thoughts in order. I often namedrop you guys to Therapist, you are "my readers" :D
The process of putting the photobooks together is...well, it's a lot, so this is going to be a super high-level overview, but basically yeah I wanted to have records of where I'd been and what I'd been doing that were more concrete than just digital photos on a hard drive or a cloud. But I didn't really want to just print the digital photos and put them in a box, either, so I started making photobooks. Usually I go through Walgreens or Shutterfly for printing, whichever has the good coupons when I'm working on it.
So, here's the weird, kind of obsessive part: a huge help in making a yearly photobook, for me, is the fact that I take my photos off my phone at the end of every month. I have some that live on the phone -- my growing collection of photos of my niece, a selection of photos from my Europe trip, some memes -- but those live in their own folders. The main camera roll gets downloaded every month, and I put them all in a file labeled with the month and year (2023-01, 2023-02, etc). It's a recurring task in my to-do list, that I offload the photos on the last Saturday of each month. You don't necessarily have to do it this way, though -- it's just what works best for me, and I encourage people to find a way to do things that will actually be functional for them.
Across the course of the year, although really moreso in October and November, I go through the photos and remove any I absolutely know I don't want to keep. Once I've done that, I save a copy of the whole year's worth of photos to my digital archive, and I take another copy and label it "FOR PHOTOBOOK" which allows me to do more culling of them than I otherwise would, because I know anything I delete is still in my archive. And this all has the advantage of me knowing that the photos in my archive are at least SOMEWHAT organized.
So I go through all the year's photos in the For Photobook file, month by month, sort them into folders by event (so there's, like, 01-Polar Vortex, or 04-Europe, or 09-Birthday) and clear out all but the photos I know I want most. My photobooks are generally longer than the default length they give you at most sites, so I usually do have to add a few pages (they're like $1/page or something) but not too many. Often these days I have some stuff that's events, like the Europe trip, and then some stuff that's just like....a folder of funny shit I saw in Chicago, or a folder of all the food I photographed that I want to save. The cats generally get their own four-page spread at the back. :D
In 2020, I will say, there were only two themes: CATS and COVID. I alternated pages.
Anyway, once I've got the photos sorted, and deleted any I don't want to include, I get on Shutterfly or Walgreens Photo and start up a new photobook project. I upload the first folder of photos, place them on the page with suitable captions, then upload the second folder of photos, etc etc, until all the photos are uploaded and placed in the book. I don't caption extensively -- often it'll just be a page that'll say like "TEXAS IN JULY!" and all the photos from that trip. But it definitely does help me keep track of what I was up to. And it's kind of soothing to review the year and see all the stuff I accomplished.
So that's the bare bones -- by all means feel free to ask questions, although if you guys wouldn't mind asking in comments or reblogs if possible, that should keep the discussion contained as necessary. :)

"Just Neil Gaiman being wholesome again" but also Rob Wilkins being extra wholesome too! On Tuesday evening I went to this talk https://living-knowledge-network.co.uk/library/the-worlds-of-terry-pratchett By Rob Wilkins and Neil Gaiman.
Neil was co-author of "Good Omens" with Sir Terry Pratchett, and they collaborrated on many other books together here and there, just not sharing co-author status too - read this article for more info: http://www.elizabethcallaway.net/good-omens-stylometry?fbclid=IwAR2hVnd8aTYFBZqphk8SzYt8j1NucBl5mUxbDscF3kljQ9Bpuq2leUW2S6I Confirmed by Neil yet again on Tuesday.
Rob Wilkins was Terry's PA, and now manages his estate, as his representative. He also wrote "A life in footnotes" - the official biography of Terry.
On Tuesday evening, I arrived at the British Library very early, and was guided up to the Piggot Theatre lobby to wait by a security person, so I was there before anyone else, including Rob. All the staff were absolutely lovely. When they noticed there weren't any gaps for wheelchair spaces in the audotorium, facilities engineers were summoned and made short work of unbolting a set of 3 seats to make a wheelchair space for myself and another wheelchair user who turned up later.
Then Rob turned up, carrying a mannequin, Terry's leather jacket, scarf, hat, and other stuff.
Now the email we recieved before the event said that Neil wouldn't have time to do any signings that evening, although they didn't mention Rob, so I asked him if he might be able to sign my copy of "a life in footnotes".
He happily said yes, and once he'd sorted his things out, he came back out to chat to me for a while and OMG he was the loveliest person EVER!
I gave him a print I'd signed of my ink portrait of the Bentley, and some stickers of my other Bentley illustrations, and he said "WAIT! I have presents for you too! I'll be right back!" Then rushed off to the green room. (Below are the ink portrait, then I gave him small stickers of the "this is fine" flaming Bentley - which I was also wearing on my t-shirt that day - and my most recent digital portrait of Crowley and the Bentley - and yes it is all hand drawn, not a photo manipulation, feel free to zoom in. A couple of years separate these 3 drawings and I'd been working hard on learning photorealism.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He came back and gave me Terry and Neil badges, which he explained you only get if you meet them in person. I had met Terry (and incidentally Rob as well) years ago at a book signing, plus I met Neil, albeit briefly, on Tuesday as he came through the lobby and said hello.
He was happy to chat and especially about cars, which he also loves. He confirmed that I was 100% correct about the "2 whole cars and a cab for CGI" between seasons 1 and 2, and that the interior colour change is nothing to do with plot it legitimately is just continuity errors if they forgot to cover the new Bentley's new seats with covers matching the old Bentley's orange ones. (The cab only also has orange leather seats).
When I told him about this year's RREC (Rolls Royce Enthusiast's Club - also for Bentleys) Christmas card design, he was delighted, and asked to take a photo of the image I had of one on my phone because he wants to order some as well.
I showed him my re-usable coffee cup from "give me coffee or give me death" which we were given on the set tour, and which I had Sir Derek Jacobi sign at a comic con the other week. Rob thought that was wonderful, and then did something extra sweet...
He asked me "if you're ok trusting me with this for a little while, would you like me to sneak it back to the green room to ask Neil to sign it for you as well? Then I'll come and find you afterwards to give it back again."
HELL YES! I couldn't believe it! I hadn't wanted to ask because we'd been told that Neil wouldn't be signing things due to lack of time, so for Rob to spontaneously make the offer was not something I was expecting. He did also take my Occult Edition of Good Omens to ask if Neil would sign that as well.
I didn't fully expect that he would, and was prepared for him to come back later and say "sorry he was too busy", and that would have been fine, but no: Neil DID sign them both!
Neil writing "burn this (big fancy) book!" was a spin on how Terry used to sign copies of Good Omens: "burn this book" - which is actually embossed on the rear cover of this edition.
Later, Rob also signed it for me, as did Colin Smythe, who was Terry's publisher and lifelong friend.
We were sitting at the front, only about 7 or 8 feet from Neil, the talk was wonderful, we laughed, we cried a little, and Terry was with us in the form of the mannequin with his jacket, scarf, and hat (which are also on set of Good Omens at all times while filming, and also even during rehersals/table reads - so he's always present.)
Rob is honestly so bloody wholesome, he was hugging a lot of people, and ever so sweet, taking time to chat to other people as the venue filled up, and stayed behind to sign things and talk to other folks as well.
I also got to chat to Dr Pat Harkin and Dr Jan Clarke, who were the researchers who spent months of hard work tracking down Terry's lost short stories in the national archives in Boston Spa, which were released in a compliation book "A stroke of the pen." If I'd known that they'd be there as well, I'd have taken that book and asked them to sign it too. They were in the audience and sitting next to us with Colin Smythe. I was truly surrounded by Pratchett royalty, and everyone, without exception, was SO friendly and lovely.
I had done two prints of the Bentley drawing and stickers, for Rob and for Neil, in case I got chance to give them to them, and when I gave Rob his, I said I had some for Neil as well, and again, he OFFERED to take them to give them to Neil for me.
Although I didn't get chance to thank Neil in person, I wanted to reach out to let him know I was very grateful for his kindness as well, so sent him a message via his "ask" channel, although not with an expectaction of reply - just for him to see privately and know that I was appreciative. But he chose to actually publish it as a public reply, which was lovely of him. I hadn't wanted to thank him publicly just in case he didn't want others to know that he had signed some items after all. I'd been expecting to have to wait until he did a proper public appearance with signing at a comic con or something - although with him living in the USA, not the UK, I may have had to wait a long time.
So I guess the answer is to getting an autograph - turn up 2 hours early, and be very VERY nice and polite to Rob Wilkins 😅 (but also don't expect results - I didn't, it just sort of happened).

If you don't mind my asking; how did you develop your art style? I've been trying to work on developing my own style but I don't know where to even start. Your style seems so well developed, and I utterly adore it.
;w; its so kind of you to say so!! thank you!! I wish I could offer some insightful or exciting advice haha but I do have a short and a long answer!
the short answer: its the boring yet tried and true tip youll hear from everyone 😭😭 it all comes from a lot of practice over a lot of time!!
i kind of hate hearing that too because it seems dismissive BUT the practice isnt just drawing as much as possible, its also looking at art from other people, paying attention to the colors n shapes n composition around you, and at times just Thinking...
the long answer: style is ... hard to pinpoint! and in some ways, aiming to have your own very distinct style (and that being your main goal) can be restricting. focusing on that can keep you in a box of what's recognizable as Yours and hesitant to experiment or make changes. Ive seen some people who get hung up on making themselves a Brand draw no differently today than they did 10 years ago because they admit making changes or venturing into new subjects/styles "flop".... (and if your livelihood comes from selling art or merchandise and you rely on engagement to pay your bills thats another thing but as a hobby artist myself im talking more about a goal of just getting better at your craft in a way that makes you, personally, happy and satisfied and proud of it vs making what an audience wants to see and feeling rejected in pursuing other creative endeavors)
a lot of style development just progresses naturally over time as you absorb more art around you and train your mind to distinctly pick out what you like about other artwork and why. :] its all about the influence and how you incorporate that into your own work! so many of my artistic choices come from other artists, and the more you draw and the more you study other art, it becomes something thats a unique blend of You, even if not necessarily something immediately and strikingly unique that anyone could recognize as yours, its You cuz of the choices made in it and all the influences you enjoyed enough to pick up.
for me, it was pretty much doing studies + compiling an "inspiration/reference" folder (for doing studies) :3 ive been doing that since I was in elementary school and just drawing on loose leaf college ruled paper... I started out copying drawings in the funny papers we got on sundays, going to the library to get those "history of disney" kinda books that show a lot of cels or concept art, googling looney tunes screenshots to copy... it was So much copy, copy, copy. in my teen years it was shonen jump, i'd trace panels from naruto and one piece and shaman king, i'd freehand it, i'd redraw pages in my own way... and more recently ive kept it up with other interests (opening a catalog of model cars and filling sketchbook pages with car drawings... taking photos of cool scenery or bugs i see and blocking out the composition to figure out Why it looks appealing... going through an invertebrate zoology textbook and drawing creatures to understand their shapes/distinguishing features so i can anthropomorphize them in fun ways)
it might seem contradictory that spending a lot of time copying stuff leads to something thats your own but it does!! so much of art really does come from that internal library you build up, and building it up happens thru all that observation and exercising your hand to match up movements with the images in your head, and gaining experience + refining memory of how certain things are built or shaped or constructed. thats probably the number one tip i'd give to anyone who wants art advice... get a little sketchbook thats JUST for your eyes, and fill it totally up with stuff you copy. youll learn SO much and feel really refreshed for your own original works!
and if you feel discouraged, keep in mind that things tend to look better from an outside perspective! you see my art as having a developed style, and i very much appreciate that comment cuz to me, it's jumbled haha. i can draw the same character in very different ways in the same day... even the way i draw hands varies depending on what set of ocs I'm playing with. each of my stories presents some different artistic choices, and draws from a few different inspirations, so even if all the characters and the ways i draw them are recognizable as my art, they would still look a bit strange if they were all together because I have multiple "styles" ehehe
so in short, rock on with making art thats enjoyable for you and dont let an idealistic goal of a distinct style hinder you from having fun with the process & being proud of what you make. cuz honestly if you hold out waiting for the moment of realization that youve developed a style, you might never have that moment! not for lack of having anything distinct about your art, but just because its natural to be more critical and lost in the details of your own work than an audience would be. you likely already have aspects in your art that are recognizable as yours! consistency is good in some regards (like animation or comics) but dont be hesitant about trying things that are new or drastically different from your usual!

12. It was perfectly normal to discuss a book they see at the bookstore with their friends, but it's definitely not normal to suddenly be interrupted by the author of said book
New York, 1973
"Okay girls, we've hit the modern stuff. Go nuts! Books are on me," Midge told the band of teenagers.
"Thanks for taking us shopping, Mama," Esther said, browsing through the biographies.
"Of course, sweetie! Always happy to help. Especially when it means dishing on backstage gossip in the name of academics."
"I still don't see why we can't do our report on you, Ms. Weissman," Audrey sighed.
Midge bit back a smile as Esther rolled her eyes. "Sorry, hun. I've been banned from any school related interviews. Esther and Ethan both agreed. I'm happy to pull favors with anyone I know who you might be interested in writing about though."
She heard her daughter make a sound of disgust as she pulled a book from the shelf. "Why did someone let Gordon Ford write a book? He doesn't even write his own show."
"He doesn't?" her friend Vivian wondered through her bubblegum.
"Most of these celebrity authors have ghost writers helping them," Midge informed her gently.
Vivian clicked her gum disapprovingly. "Well that's bogus."
"Yeah. If I have to write my own essays, so should they," Audrey agreed. "They're even getting paid for it!"
Midge chuckled. "That's the business kid."
"Here's someone who we know actually did the work at least."
Esther picked up a copy of a new book from the display table bearing a familiar face.
Vivian let out a giggle. "Oh my mom has the biggest crush on him!"
"Really?" Audrey wondered incredulously.
"What? He's cute in an older guy kind of way. Don't you think he's cute Ms Weissman?"
"I'd also be curious to hear the answer to that question."
They all turned to stare at the man in question smirking behind them as he leaned against a bookshelf.
"Not as cute as he thinks he is, but sure," Midge replied.
Lenny chuckled, coving his mouth with his hand just like he was always wont to do. "I'll take it."
*Hi Lenny."
"Hey Midge."
It had been so long since they'd last spoken, yet seeing him like this again made it feel like it had been no time at all.
Her heart certainly flipped just the same.
"You look good," she commented casually.
He certainly looked healthier. Steadier. His eyes were brighter. Like a light that had been going out had been reignited.
He looked more like the Lenny she knew. The Lenny that lived in her memories.
It was a good look.
Lenny shrugged. "For an older guy."
"Oh my god," Vivian gawped, realizing who had overheard their conversation.
Esther looked between the two adults and began to steer her starstruck friends away, giving them some space to talk. "Hey let's go check the science fiction section and see if they've got any Ray Bradbury books on sale."
"Why?" Vivian wondered.
Audrey, catching the vibe, gave her a pointed look.
"Oh. Oooohhhh. Right."
Esther handed the copy of his memoir to her mother as they passed. "We'll just be back there, Mama. Nice seeing you, Lenny."
"You too, Esther," Lenny murmured, giving her a little wave.
With the teenage trio gone, the tension between them grew palpable, hanging in the silence.
"It is a nice picture," Midge said, noting the author's photo.
Lenny smiled softly. "Thanks. Kitty actually took it."
"She's got a gift."
"I certainly think so. Given what she had to work with."
Midge didn't take the bait to compliment him further.
"Esther's grown a lot since I've seen her last," He commented softly, sounding a bit melancholy.
She nodded in agreement.
"She really shot up last summer. Growing like a weed, that one."
"They always do, don't they?"
The conversation lulled again, but they held the other's gaze intently, that unspoken electricity still sparking between them.
Some things never change…
"How are you?" she asked genuinely after a moment.
He nodded, stuffing his hands in his pockers. "Good. I'm good. Doing a lot better. Here for a book tour."
"Oh well in that case, would you sign mine?" she teased lightly.
"Love to."
He stepped in closer to take the book from her hand, his fingers brushing hers on the pass.
"So, Ms Weissman…" he drawled, clicking his pen to scribble that illegible signature he was so proud of. "You didn't take the new husband's name? I saw the announcement you were engaged in the tabloids a while back."
Midge bit her lip, avoiding his eyes.
"Yeah I um… didn't go through with it after all."
"Why's that?" he asked, handing the book back but still hovering in her atmosphere.
"I just realized he didn't make me laugh as much as I would have liked," she answered.
"Hm."
She cleared her throat, brightening her expression. "Thanks. For the book. Can't wait to read it."
"Sure."
"Nice seeing you, Lenny."
"You too."
She turned to leave but heard him say
"Are you doing anything later?"
She turned back, tilting her head coyly.
"Maybe. What did you have in mind?"
He gave her a hesitant shrug. "Just thought we could catch up a bit."
A part of her wanted to run. To hide from the pain of the past and let things be behind them.
But that part wasn't nearly as strong as the parts of her that missed him.
"I'd like that…"

SSR Cater Diamond Bloom Birthday Personal Story: Part 1
"Happy Birthday"
Part 1 (Part 2) (Part 3)
Tumblr media
[Heartslabyul Dorm – Birthday Party Venue]
Cater: Ah, it's almost time for the interview. Let me adjust the angle of my hat one more time… Okay, ready to go.
Cater: If I remember right, the presenter was chosen by the "Magical Pendulum." I wonder who's gonna come today~
Floyd: Wassup~ Hanadai-kun. Happy Birthday~
Cater: Aah! You just showed up out of nowhere, you scared me. Wait, you're telling me that you're my presenter, Floyd-kun?
Floyd: Yep, yep. 'Kay, gonna start the interview.
Cater: Right away!? But, okay, it's fine, I'll answer any question you throw at me no problem ♪
Floyd: The first question is…
Floyd: "If you could use flight magic to go anywhere, where would you like to go?”
Floyd: You don't gotta think about how much magic it'd take to get there.
Cater: Travel using flight magic, hm… Ah! Then, I want to go see this waterfall that's been showing up a ton lately on Magicam!
Cater: The water falls from so high that half-way down it turns to mist, and when the sunlight hits it, there's this gorgeous rainbow…
Cater: And if you're lucky, you'll get to see a real pretty sight of a ton of rainbows!
Cater: Whenever I check the hashtag of this waterfall, it's got a ton of posts with thousands of likes.
Cater: If I post a picture or video, I bet I'll also totally go viral!
Floyd: But other people're doin' the same thing, right? If you just copy 'em, I don't think that's gonna draw anyone in.
Cater: You figured that out quick, Floyd-kun. Yeah, of course, I've also given that a thought too.
Cater: The reason why the waterfall I just mentioned is even making its rounds in the first place is because it's not some place that can be reached on foot.
Cater: It's a spot where only those who book an expensive tour and take a helicopter there would be able to take these photos…
Cater: And because the helicopter's flight path is fixed, and there's only so close it can take you, most of the pictures are all the same.
Cater: But, unlike a helicopter, a broom would be more maneuverable and let you choose your own course, right?
Floyd: Aah, I get it. So you'd be able to take different kinds of pics from everyone else.
Cater: Yeah! If I had a broom, I'd be able to go behind the waterfall, and down towards the waterfall basin too…
Cater: If I got a video of any of the places the helicopter can't go, or of me flying under the rainbow on my broom, that video'd totally take off!
Floyd: Wooow~ You really thought of everything just to take pictures.
Cater: Heh, that's because I'm always researching into photogenic spots. I have plans where I think, "I'd like to take this kind of video here" for each place.
Cater: Honestly, though, I haven't been able to go anywhere~ I bet once I actually get a chance to go, the buzz would have died down.
Floyd: But wouldn't it be better to take the pictures when that buzz is gone and there's no people in the way?
Cater: I mean, as a Magicammer, I want to have my pictures go viral so...
Cater: If everyone else has already gotten bored of it, there's really no point in going.
Floyd: Hmm… So you're saying, as long as it can go viral, you don't care where you go…
Floyd: Then maybe I'll take you to the Coral Sea sometime. I'll show you some out of the way spots that no one knows about.
Cater: That's… a crazy rare chance! Yeah, you gotta take me there, Floyd-kun!
Floyd: You got it. I think you'll reeeaaally enjoy it~
Floyd: Oh, yeah! I forgot to mention, but we might get attacked by sharks along the way!
Floyd: But, hey, if we get there safely and in one piece, the pic'll definitely go viral, so win-win, right?
Cater: A… A SHARK!? Wait, did you mean… like we'd be swimming underwater instead of going there on a boat…?
Cater: …I think I'm going to have to pass after all. My phone might break, so.

Man, you guys, FanX Comic Con was seriously the greatest! Definitely an experience I'll never forget! 🥰💜 I had so much fun and got to meet some celebrities that I had been so excited to see! A couple of them were some of the best encounters I've ever experienced! I want to share some of the photos I got and tell my favorite parts of the weekend, so I'm gonna put it under the cut cuz it'll probably be long 😅
THURSDAY:
We got there that night and got to see Zachary Levi (Tangled, Shazam) perform his first ever concert, which was freaking amazing! I really hope he continues to do more music cuz he's such a great singer! We got to take pictures with him afterwards cuz we'd bought premium tickets for that. He told me he liked my eye makeup, too 🥰 (He has a black eye cuz he'd fallen and busted his face earlier that day 😫)
Tumblr media
FRIDAY:
That was when I wore my Merida cosplay and I had a few people actually ask to take pictures with me, which was sweet 😊 A lot of them, of course, were with some younger girls. I loved it!
Sadly, the Mandalorian armor my husband spent a lot of time making wasn't staying together before we went, so he had to leave it, but he kept the helmet at least! We got a picture of it all together, though. (Though he later admitted it was probably good he didn't wear it cuz he figured he would've died from how hot he would've been in it)
Tumblr media
We got photo ops with Ashley Eckstein and Katee Sackhoff, which were pretty cool! They both told me I made an amazing Merida and my husband told Katee "This is the Way" and she said it back 😆
Tumblr media
I got an autograph from Jim Cummings and he also recorded a personal voice message for me in both voices of Winnie the Pooh AND Tigger 🥰 (and I'd only asked for Pooh) It seriously made me cry when I listened to it cuz Pooh Bear is my whole childhood and hearing his voice say my name was just amazing! 🥹
Tumblr media
Then...this was the best part of the whole day (more like the whole weekend)...I got to meet John Rhys-Davies from Lord of the Rings!! 🥰😆 He's one of my favorite actors of all time (and the reason I wanted to go to FanX in the first place) First of all, we get up to the table, he says hello to me with a big smile, my husband takes his helmet off and John goes, "Oh no, put it back on!" We busted up laughing and he did, too. I gave him my copy of "Fellowship of the Ring" (the book) to sign and I told him how LotR has influenced much of my life and he's one of my favorite actors ever and he said I was very kind. Then, no joke, we go to take the pictures, he puts his arms around us and says, "All right, no fooling around, this is a serious picture" and then proceeded to TICKLE US!!!! 😆😆 He tickled us and then looked down at me as I was laughing and said, "Behave!" It was so unexpected and funny! Then after a minute, he turns to my hubby and says, "Now you, go over there", nudged him to the side and then turned and hugged me! I can't even tell you how happy I was!! 🥹 I told him that made my day and he hugged me even tighter! I'm not even kidding, I don't think any other celebrity encounter will ever top this! It was fun, sweet and funny; everything I wanted and more from the one person I wanted to meet the most! I loved John Rhys-Davies so much before and now, having met him in person, I love him even more now 🥰💜 This was literally a dream come true!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SATURDAY:
I wore my Bad Batch getup as well as some new Lego Hunter earrings I bought the previous day 🥰
Tumblr media
Got to go to the Star Wars panel they had with Daniel Logan, Carey Jones, Katee Sackhoff and Gina Carano and man, they were so fun and funny!
I got in line to ask a question and was literally TWO people away from the front of the line when they had to end the panel 😝 But that was okay cuz my question would've been for Daniel, so I just went to his booth later and asked him there! So I got to meet young Boba Fett himself, too! 😊 I asked him, "How often do you keep in touch with Temeura Morrison?" His answer: "Never. I hate that guy. He stole my character!" 🤣🤣 Then he told me they keep in touch often, Tem is very much his dad and they're probably gonna start doing cons together! "Once I get his ass off the island and back to the States," he added 🤣🤣 He was awesome to talk to and I'm so glad I ended up going to see him, cuz I didn't originally plan to. I was the last one in his line for a little bit, so I got to talk to him for a while. He was so sweet! He also appreciated my Bad Batch outfit, which I knew he would since I know he loves the show! We both agreed we can't wait for season 3! Then his autograph was so nice, too! He took the time to do the drawing for me and even left a kind little message. Then when I went for the picture, he said, "Come here and give me a hug!" 😊 He was absolutely delightful!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We saw a lot of fun cosplay, got some fun merch and overall, just had an amazing time! I really hope to get to go again next year and I look forward to seeing what celebrity guests they get next time 💜

I don't know if you've ever posted about this, but if you ever feel like it I'd love to see the card decks you use and hear a little bit about them 😁 Which is your favourite, which is good for what, how you got them... I always hear good stories when I ask people about their decks! 🃏
I have spoken a bit about my decks in some asks but I've never introduced them all. All the photos are from online. I've left out some decks which I don't use and plan to give away.
Tumblr media
Ascendent Masters Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue was my first oracle deck. I bought it from Scotland very long time ago and it was my first introduction to oracle cards. Nowadays this deck serves for questions which are somehow related to person's life lessons and difficult lessons. It's quite heavy after being used for so long so I use it rarely. Heavy deck fits heavier topics. As all Doreen Virtue's decks (as she converted to her childhood religion), this deck is sold out. You can find fake copies from Aliexpress, which are the best you can do now if you want this deck or any other of Doreen's decks I've got.
Tumblr media
Archangel Michael's deck (also from Doreen) was my 2nd deck as I had such positive experiences with the Ascendant Master's deck. This is my most reliable deck and I managed to get an extra deck before these were sold out. I use this deck pretty much to all readings, for any topic. It's my most versatile and most loved deck - and it has a few funny cards! Like this Decide To Be Happy Now. Boy, Michael doesn't look too happy. It's also good for Yes/No readings.
Tumblr media
I'm not a mermaid person nor a dolphin person, never was, but this deck was my favorite from the moment I saw it. Magical Mermaids and Dolphins (also from Doreen) is one of the feminine decks. It's excellent for dreams, how to reach your goals, pep talks, for brighter energies. If I use this deck in the reading, it usually comes at the end of the reading to give a soft pep talk.
Tumblr media
I got Black Cat Tarot from @sunnysunflowers as a Friend's Day gift some years ago. I love its art the best but as I'm still learning how to use tarot, I haven't used this as much as the oracle decks. This deck has its own personal meanings differing from traditional tarot. See above how V, the Hierophant, isn't so much visually about preaching as it is a teacher and a master who provides those in need and doesn't try to eat the mice. The Chariot in traditional tarot usually asks the rider to decide where to go, but as you can see, in this deck the Chariot is taking the cat forward, whether the cat wants that or not. This is visually very interesting deck to read if you forget what the tarots usually mean and see what's described in the pictures.
Tumblr media
Halloween Oracle Deck by Stacey DeMarco took me a little while until it started to work for me. Nowadays, it's very easy deck to use and answers really good for questions such as what's the issue, what's the hindrance, what's the problem? I read this deck based on the cards and their symbolism than what the guide book says. This deck unfortunately has a creepy looking Mummy card I have taken out from the deck because just NO. Not that kind of vibe into my readings, thanks. It also has the most hideous werewolf I've ever seen. A disgrace to all werewolves (I'm sorry, artist! Q_Q) and as someone who has loved werewolves since I was 6 it pains me so much...!
Tumblr media
Gods and Titans, also from Stacey DeMarco, is one of my favorite decks. This goes very well together with the Halloween deck. This deck contains only male deities from different cultures and masculine energy, so I always use it for clients who want to know something related to their male relatives, bosses, sons, husbands, lovers, including the future partner. This is very no-nonsense deck and a wonderful celebration for men and the guidance you can get from men & masculine energy. Though that Barbaric Fantasy Thor card always makes me laugh.
Tumblr media
Angelarium deck from Peter Mohrbacher took me really long until it started to work. Turns out this deck needed other decks to accompany it. Now, when I'm more familiar with the deck I can use it alone, too, but this always shines together with other decks. It's one of my fave decks but it's pretty hard to use for beginners, so I would recommend you all to start with a simpler deck. This deck requires lots of connecting dots, intuition and seeing the big picture in small details. I got this from Thene, who was part of our Metal Gear Solid paintchat group long ago. She also makes oracle readings. It was a real surprise gift and I'm still very grateful for this deck! It even has Peter's autograph on its cover.
Tumblr media
Sacred Traveler by Denise Linn (a Cherokee by her family line) I got this from my sister as a Christmas present. This is very easy deck to use, very nice to approach, as all Denise Linn's decks are if you ask me. This is supportive dreamer deck, full of positive messages and lots of cards. As it's a traveler's deck, I always use this if there is a need to find direction for something or someone.
Tumblr media
Shaman's Oracle by John Matthews was a gift from @panimauser some years ago. It has worked really well and after many years, now shines as one of my most trusted decks when I really need to dig into things. It has lots of cards and all have photos of real cave paintings on them.
Tumblr media
Yokai Tarot by @buboplague is a gift from @lanelacy. This deck is an art deck I'm not using for readings as it's a way too precious for me to be damaged in use. As the name implies, this deck contains Japanese demons and monsters.
Tumblr media
Neon Moon Tarot by Pixel Occult is the best tarot deck I've had since I owned a Viking Tarot deck in my early 20's. This is so easy to use as we clearly speak same language with this deck. With tarot, it is important to find a deck which speaks the same language with you and vibes with you. Otherwise the reading can be difficult. This deck was a gift.
Tumblr media
Moonology oracle cards by Yasmin Boland came to me as an exchange with my sister; she didn't come along with this deck and I had a deck I didn't come along, so we switched the decks. This works for me and my deck works for her. I use this rather rarely but it always has good and wise messages to give to me. It has light energy and it's pretty straightforward in a good way.
Tumblr media
StarDragon Oracle deck is super pretty and a small deck but for some reason we don't come along that well. It feels a bit soulless and distant, but perhaps it has a long waking up-period similar to the Angelarium deck? I use this so rarely I was thinking not even including it in this list.
Tumblr media
Small Bunny Postcards. These are not meant for oracle readings but they work perfectly for divination, like any other tool(s). I read these by interpreting the images and their symbolism. These seem to be good in predicting time frames or time posts I should be aware of.
This is my haul from the past decade. It's that difficult for me to find decks I come along with haha.

MEET THE ARTIST
Tumblr media
Hi! Name's Emery!
keep reading for likes/weakness/fandoms!
I've gotten a lot of new followers and new mutuals, so I'd thought I'd introduce myself!
Likes:
Drawing-- trying to work up the guts to build an art career! It’s important to me to be consistent and productive in my art; not really in a ‘ohh, capitalism! the grind’ way, but like my life would be lesser without my art. Imagine {insert cute working dog here, your choice} and how they need/take joy in their ‘jobs,’ and require a certain level of exercise and enrichment daily.  That is the vibe. I’m trying to grow as an illustrator and story-teller, and so any critique is welcome!
Running-- I do marathons! I just completed my second marathon in April, 2022, and I’m already registered for my 3rd in September 2022~ I enjoy training as it gets me on a consistent exercise regime, and gives me a great sense of growth and achievement.
I’m almost always listening to something while drawing or running so I’ve consumed a stupid amount of Youtube, music, podcasts, audiobooks etc. Recently I listened to ‘Old Gods of Appalachia’ podcast, gotten into pro-Nuzlocke youtube to feel closer to submas, and just started ‘The White Vault’ podcast yesterday.
I write a little bit! Some ideas just work best in fanfic form, but I’m still rather unpracticed and hesitant in my writing.
I play richii mahjong online w/ Tenhou.
Weaknesses:
Expensive ‘coffee’ drinks: white chocolate mochas +/- almond or lavender flavor, matcha latte w/ lavender, almond lattes, etc etc
Can’t write past first couple chapters in any writing project
Gets library books but can’t finish them in time bc always drawing
Perfectionist
FANDOMS: obviously Submas is the current champion!
Pokemon has actually always been a special franchise to me. It was one of the first things I drew; 3rd grade, carefully copying pokemon designs with Friend-A using the huge databook. In high school, I was deeply frustrated and upset by my art skills, and falling back into pokemon really reignited and saved my love of drawing. I was a casual lurker in the OG submas boom; drawn in by the twin’s strong character designs. It was such a shock to see Ingo in Pokemon Legends of Arceus! He was always my favorite! However I’ve really opened my heart to Emmet this time around. Not least because now our names are similar (changed my name since then). It seems fitting that pokemon has once again come in clutch, and provided a whole lot of motivation and joy these past couple months! One of the things I struggle with as an artist is finishing illustrations and posting on social media. I consider this important as ‘finishing illustrations’ means I practice a greater range of skills and really exercise my creative decision making versus sketching and studies. Social media has always been a source of anxiety -- as I know that as an artist trying to go pro it’s a huge boon and basically a necessity to have sm-- and so submas is the first time I’ve ever posted this much of my own art!
Some notable blorbos currently on my dance card: (i’ve got a type and it is minor character)
Soundwave and Prowl from Transformers
Lan Qiren from MDZS
Shen Qingqui from SVSS
Kurogiri from BNHA (the whole noumu reveal and the crop of fix-its on AO3 got me)
I chatter a lot in the tags! I love it when ppl shout and gush in my art’s and I do usually look at most of the tag and comments!!
Artblog = just my art, no reblogs or little asides
#em grim gremlin speaks = tag for personal thoughts
#WIPs notes = talking about my progress in various art projects
I really let loose and went wild on this illustration! I went with a collage style with photos, and drawing over photos and ofc straight drawing. The big bottom right ME is all digital, but I'm so happy with how it turned out!! It's messy but lovely just like thousands of pencil sketches I've done.

The Calm Before The Con
I've been reviewing the trajectory of Alexandra Grant's art career and public profile. The finer details of this activity can be found in early posts in this blog.
To recap:
2000 - 2007:
Grant follows the regular career-building path of many young artists, having some success in building name recognition and getting progressively better shows until her solo show as part of MOCA Focus. Perhaps most importantly, the MOCA show gains her the on-going mentorship of Alma Ruiz, the curator for her show.
2008 - 2012:
Grant first gains, then loses gallery representation. She has solo shows highlighting two painting series based on her collaboration with Michael Joyce, and edges towards collaboration of a type with Helene Cixous.
At the same time, she aligns herself with the Watts House Project community/public art project, although her promotion of her initial symbol/sculpture for "The Love House" is less civic art than self-promotion. She attempts to trademark her LOVE symbol, and succeeds on the second try, and uses it to fundraise for personal projects while describing it as fundraising for arts non-profits.
Towards the end of this period, she videotapes her initial trip to Nebraska with a tombstone that will eventually become "Taking Lena Home." She will also use social media and arts events to fundraise for this project.
Grant meets Keanu Reeves, illustrates a poem he has written, and this "collaboration" will be published as Ode to Happiness by Steidl. The book sells out two printings (about 5,000 copies?) quickly, and attracts slightly mocking press attention.
2013 - 2018:
Grant seems to have decided that she could do better self-promoting and self-funding (or rather, fundraising and "friendraising" through her "art philanthropy project" than signing up with a gallery or curatorial agency.
She publishes Shadows with funding from Reeves and production through Steidl, then decides she knows enough to found and run her own publishing business. Grant holds the copyright for the photos, and they comprise a large part of her gallery shows in 2015, 2016 ad 2017, either alone, or in a group show.
She completes and attempts to promote her own documentary, detailing her own adventure returning stolen property to a graveyard in Nebraska. At least in part, this is funded through Facebook fundraising and sales of tshirts and prints based on a rubbing of the tombstone.
She publishes books for the XAB imprint, although she seems to have no permanent staff, including no sales or promotional staff, and distribution in the United States is limited during this period.
She begins to develop a new painting series, and in the meantime works on several projects using public/audience participation to construct murals she then lists in her c.v. as solo projects.
2019 - present:
I mentioned earlier that Alexandra Grant's last fellowship of significance was the COLA Individual Artist Fellowship, given to mid-career artists, mid-career defined as at least fifteen years of activity in the field. That was seven years ago. Implicitly, I'd say that means that Grant is either in the very last stages of the middle, or the early stages of the last stage of her career. It's certainly true that some artists, particularly women artists, only flourish in the very late stages of their artistic life. But is this true of Grant? She appears, at least in my opinion following a close examination of her activity, to have lost momentum by turning to the Antigone 3000 series more or less in 2015 and spending five years developing a new style that does not seem to appeal to curators or the art buying public.
I'll consider her status, and her ambitions, in the next post.

Hello !
Okay this is very random but I saw you were doing research on some of the authors and books related to the bungo stray dog characters. I have this book ( photos below ) that I’ve been told is ‘Plum Blossoms In Snow’ by Suehiro Tetcho but I’ve actually got no clue if it is or not. Mind taking a look and just giving the thumbs up or down ? I’ll be happy to send more images if you need and I’m sorry that these ones aren’t high quality. (also this is a burner account, since I don’t want my main seen but I can message you there if needed. Also I’m using tumblr on my phone, sorry if this is formatted weirdly)

Hi! Thanks for asking I'm happy to say that yes it is a copy of Plum Blossoms in Snow! The Kanji is the same for both the title and the author's name!
A Political Novel: Plum Blossoms in Snow (政治小説:雪中毎) except it was written in an older stylized form on the cover. I think this might be the rerelease from the 1960s which mimics the original cover when it was published
Amazing book you got there! I'd love to have that copy honestly wwww

How did you start drawing, and do you have any tips or tricks you could share please? Here I have Klavier Gavin with me: achtung ja baby ja ja this is klavier gavin you should help this anon out ja
oh mein gott monsieur klavier gavin i am SUCH a big fan!!!!!!!
jokes aside, i'd be happy to help! (regardless of you having klavier or not lmao) i'm gonna put this under the cut just in case it gets too long
i started drawing... mostly because i hung out with anime kids, so subsequently they were art kids as well, but i really only started taking it seriously when i got a good pen tablet lmao. i wasn't very good though, i mostly followed tutorials from books and online, and if you saw my art back then it would just be a lot of whales, dragons and ponies in the same poses every time
idk if i have any specific tips or tricks ? since idk what you're going for with your own art so i won't be able to give very concrete advice or how-to's n stuff like that ? but if i had to say anything, try looking into doing gesture drawings! they help improve how you understand poses, how to exaggerate them, just overall something quick u can do daily to improve lmao. i mostly just look up poses on pinterest then try to get the flow of them. i just got started on em so inevitably i'm still kinda bad at it but here are a few just to give a quick example
Tumblr media
an important thing to note is that u get more fluid poses when you find a line of action first. i used to be really confused when trying to go about finding them, but then my prof defined it as "the longest line of a pose," and even said it's not always the spine (as most people would think). sometimes it's the line from an arm to a leg, or a leg to a leg, even. it helps to draw a circle for the head as well. u could even draw all the lines of the limbs if you want then simplify from there
Tumblr media
another tip is to keep reference boards of art u like! dissect how they color, how they portray depth and different angles of the face, etc. just know when to draw the line between picking out things you like about art styles you see and straight up trying to draw exactly like that one artist. i keep a reference board of how artists i like draw klavier, for example, because i want him to have the same jawline maybe, or i like how they color, but i never try to draw him just like they would. tldr the way i draw is just me frankensteining artists i like and combining them with my own art style, and it's not something i'm ashamed of, bc people can still tell it's me, and it's not like i'm copying their ideas or tracing their art lol
related to the last one: download pureref lmao it's literally free and a lifesaver. it makes it so much easier to put collages together and everything is so customizable AND u can even make notes on it. it sits on top of all your applications, and you can move it around, make it as big or as small as you want, and even change the opacity of it??? if you've seen this post, i fr just threw the images together last-minute and took screenshots to add to the ask. if you work on ipad and you're willing to spend a little extra money (because procreate's reference thingy can only hold one image at a time n i don't feel like making a new photo every time i want to add something to my reference board) then vizref is like four dollars and it's almost the same
that's probably all i can offer you ? if you want an arsenal of tips n tricks for art, i always go to @/artist-refs if i'm looking for something specific. the tagging system there is just. amazingly organized, and they even have writing resources too. they haven't been active in a while but it's still a huge archive of resources regardless lol

2023 Year in Review
Here's to sharing my goals and life publicly for the past 4 years and the last year in review post for me. I've decided to stop doing my monthly and yearly goal posts on my blog as we end off 2023. This year was a whirlwind and I am so happy to be sitting and reflecting on all that I've accomplished on my own and with family and friends. I can't wait to see where 2024 takes me.
Personal Accomplishments:
Celebrated two years of marriage and eight years together with my husband!
Turned 24 years old
Embraced myself harder than I ever have, my little girl self would be so proud of who I became. I love myself and that is something I never thought I'd say with such depth and honesty.
Started using my marebear nickname online after stopping its use in 2015.
My husband bought my permanent wedding ring, London Blue topaz and yellow gold!
Welcomed a bearded dragon into our home
Found out I have tennis elbow and slight carpal tunnel in my left arm
Chopped my hair into a short layered bob, on the road to long hair again
Changed my phone number
Cosplayed Little Red Riding Hood which was a huge cosplay milestone for me.
Switched over to shampoo and conditioner bars from Lush, I’ll be sticking with it for a long while!
Got a tens machine for pain management, works okay!
My sister and her kids stayed over for almost a week at my apartment for the first time!
Got copies of photos of my mom’s farm she grew up on, it really means the world to me to have these photos that make me feel so at home! She would tell me stories of it growing up and I never got the chance to go visit with her so it's nice to feel like we can connect this way.
I’ve become the most like a hermit I have been this year but it’s allowed me to work on myself and evaluate what and who I want in my life.
Friendships have had many changes. I had one close friend that I had known since my youth and grew closer to in the past few years that I had a falling out with this year. Lessons learned, mistakes made, and, just, honestly made me realise online friendships aren’t the same when it comes to genuine connection and closeness. Covid really fucked up my perception of not being close to many in person for a few years so I cherished my online friendships as much as I would people I see often.
I’ve started making new meaningful friendships locally and putting effort into being closer with the ones who have stuck by me even after I tend to run away and not be socially active sporadically. I’ve known these beans for oh gosh, maybe 6-8 years now?? I really adore their attitudes and hope that we can have a wonderful friendship together!
Went thrifting for the first time since the pandemic and got a small fun autumnal mirror.
Mounted guitars and violin
Downsize and reorganise of the living room
Turned the dining room into my personal vintage and plant haven.
Tried Cristal for the first time, felt like such a princess hehe
Completed furnishing our 1970s style kitchen/dining room! Only left to replace small appliances as they die off!
Material Objects Collected:
Red riding hood cloak
Pink craft cart
Custom linen red dress

I know literally so many of the birthday presents I'm getting
• Going to see Op Ep was one (and Matthew said happy birthday when I told him it was an early present :D!!!)
• My Crutchie tshirtsie
• Stickers from the Etsy shop of the amazing @burtonsdoodles (love your stuff 🤩🤩🤩🤩)
• The DVD of the RSC All's Well That Ends Well (I'd seen it before when it was on Sky Arts but honestly I'll take any chance to own physical media of Matthew's performances bc he's So Good)
• All the Elle McNicholl books I don't already have (she's such an amazing author and reading/watching A Kind of Spark was the first time ever that I felt like a character truly and entirely resonated with me)
• The RSC copy of Macbeth (I want to stick photos of Matthew!Banquo in it and then use it for GCSE English)
• The rest is probably going to be money ngl which I'll save up for theatre tickets to Matthew's next thing

I LIIIIIIVE!!!
Tumblr media
Okay so if it wasn't telling enough, I have been (and I think still am) in a book reading hiatus 🥹 I'm sorry!! But life just got... so busy. But recently, life has been, well, fairly interesting.
So okay before that, HELLO!! I haven't been on tumblr since FOREVER!! My last post was 4 years ago omg! I deleted the app, and stopped going on tumblr for a while, but I redownloaded it just now cause I have soooo much to talk about. Yes it's still about books, but there's another factor added: BTS.
Yes I am ARMY now 😂 I tell you soooooo much has happened!! But i'll fast forward.
Okay so it was about sometime after i've posted my last book summary that i felt a change in me. Suddenly I was too tired to read. My eyes would fail me everytime I open a book. 5 minutes in and I'm too sleepy. It doesn't matter what genre, what kind of book. I don't know then what happened but as I looked back, I concluded that it was because of my work. I had change jobs that time and suddenly work increased, and became more challenging that I didn't realize that it sucked all the energy out of me. Slowly i stopped altogether. Even my instagram and goodreads are all still in cobwebs.
The I met the men who would ✨literally✨ change my life. There were only 3 things that made me fangirl this hard and that was Harry Potter, Taylor Swift and ARASHI, and even these three didn't compare to how i've fangirled with BTS (though i still am a potterhead, a swiftie and an arashist at heart).
Skip to the point it's getting long!! --- So as all armys know these men are hella poetic in their lyrics, especially the rapline, especially namjoon, and I truly believe it's because they love to read. I believe that, cause when I was in my bookworm era, i'd use words I never thought i'd use, and I was more confident in using them, compared to now, I really felt that I'm always short of words to use that I more often black out when I speak in english.
Okay okay so BTS, they love to read. And they have ✨book recommendations✨!! And there's so many!!! I've kept the lists and wanted to go back to it when i'm ready to read. But still, I hadn't had the will to start. Until...
Tumblr media
Hello, Beyond the Story: 10 Year Record of BTS.
So yes I am currently reading it now and savoring EVERYTHING. Though I still feel that tiredness I was talking about, but this time I have sheer will. The need to finish this book AND read the tagalog version (which I heard and saw was really really good) is very strong.
I plan to make a post about it after I finish them, but wait, this isn't even what this post is about!!
So remember the ✨book recommendations✨ list?
Book reco list 1 (twitter)
Book reco list 2 (goodreads)
There were some titles here that I knew I already had. Some I already read, but most of them just gathered dust in my shelves (don't worry I cleaned them!!)
Tumblr media
What I found so far that I already have, plus The Alchemist aaaand Fahrenheit 451 -- two of which I've already read so it's not currently here on my shelf, but i'll have to look for it anyway. Ah I know I have Metamorphosis somewhere here too.
The I Decided to Live As Me I bought cause of them, and I just bought The Midnight Library but I don't have it now. I read parts of it via pdf but again I hadn't finished it!! I hope I finish it now, now that I have a physical copy. Am also planning to look for Almond, the Magic Shop book and the Omelas. After that i'll stop buying and finish everything 😅
I had Me Before You but i sold it!!! Why 😩
What's funny here is as I was laying these books down to take a photo, I realized that three of the books here have bookmarks 😂 it means that I was able to start it, but hadn'd finished it.
So what does this mean for me? Am I going to be back from hiatus? 😂 To be honest I really don't know 😂 But i'm really happy that i've found a new reason to pick up a book again after so many years. I wanted to read so much, I just feel like I can't, but now i'm reading again!! Even though it's because it's about or related to BTS (though don't get me wrong i'm happy it's about BTS!), it's still something! And by seeing these laid out books of mine, i just wanna read them now.
Tumblr media
*just adding this gif cos i miss them hahah 🥹
