I say "attempted to change it" (about the origin of the harlequin portrayal) because S2 ep3 promo I've seen so far treats the introduction of Lestat playing that character as super cool and awesome and Armand seems to have swooned over him via Lestat's attitude in portrayal of this character. Which is unhinged because Armand of all people would likely know the racism inherent to the harlequin.

And also I think I've seen an interview, but don't quote me here because it could very well be fandom bs, where Sam(?) talked about the difference between Lelio and Harlequin and the only thing he expressed was the trickster nature of the Harlequin vs the lover's nature of Lelio or smth. Nothing to aknowledge Harlequin is blackface and maybe Lestat had those racist biases as a human/fresh vampire (very possible) or etc.

Which is why I'm so serious when I say I hope he comments on the situation, least AMC are utter fools and trying to pull an "It's not racist when WE do it because, um, reasons!!!"

It's a bunch of theatre ppl making the show tho and the racial commentary is usually good, I don't see why they'd skip over a mention of it. It's not surprising it hasn't been brought up in interviews before the episode has aired tho. Sam also is never gonna be the one to deep dive into racial topics lol.

Idk anything about this stuff so I went looking on youtube to see performances and general videos. This is *always* mentioned somehow when talking about the character and the mask, so it's not rly hidden info once u poke around the tiniest bit.

I will say tho that I don't think ur supposed to see Lestat in that role as being very positive tbh. We've basically been told that it's Armand switching the roles for him in the play in his version of events and he's supposed to look goofy. I always took it to be intentional for Armand to try and downplay his desire while still clearly being overtaken by it. The plays are book canon so I don't see anything outright problematic about how this is set up in terms of what it means for Armand and Lestat. It doesn't suddenly make them good or bad ppl by itself. There's limited characters to pick from in the play. They're old, popular plays with multiple influences and versions. Pretty much *everything* is also rooted in racism tbh, especially hundreds of years ago in France. I'm not trying to tell u how to feel, I'm just saying I'm not gonna get angry ahead of time with a show that's already mentioning racial history in every scene we see. Daniel's always ready to blurt out some racist shit to Armand as it is and show off his white, liberal knowledge about history so I can p easily see this being a setup for that.

Sorry the part about Lestat "maybe" having racist biases made me lol too bcuz....of course he did. He still has them through the entirety of S1! He's white and French from 17whatever. He thinks racism is an American problem. He'd be saying slurs all over the place if this show wanted to be authentic about it. We're getting the toned down version of what would rly be "book accurate" for those who want that lol.

They don't want to risk their current viewer base ditching them so early in the final season. They want to squeeze every Barchie tweet out of this that they can for promo. I have no idea who will be endgame but I DO know that if it's not Barchie, the last thing anyone working on the show is going to do is imply that this early lmao

I know they feel rly confident right now, but they need to remember Ras wants views, and the Barchies are easy views and promo atm. But I think they also know if they bring back older, more popular ships that could also make them BANK later lol so at the end of the day, it'll be what they think will get the most views/money I think.

I also just think with all the universe hopping and time line changing, and then choosing to do BA during that, is a BAD sign for them lol it feels like they're going to switch things up at the end and if Barchie was going to be endgame for sure, I don't think they would get this much content this soon. I could always be wrong, but I just think Ras is 100% using Barchies atm bc they're ravenous and LOUD so its good to get tweets about them going and stuff. Long story short, they probably should consider the fact that if anyone implied anything BESIDES Barchie endgame, they'd all mass exodus out of the viewer base lol they're gunna keep them on the hook but that doesn't mean they'll get what they want at the end. I don't think Ras is loyal to them in any way, and if he IS a fan of the comics at all - he knows Archie literally never chooses Betty EVER lol

Also the whole Tabitha guardian angel thing feels like an easy cop out for that relationship - she's not of this world or has a bigger purpose or whatever and won't end up with anyone from the show lol they've done a poor job incorporating her organically into the cast people had already been watching for years so I'm thinking she won't be there when things wrap up. Her being a literal angel feels far too convenient lol

Only time will tell, but they're much more confident then I think they should be. If I was them, I'd be skeptical and anxious. I think they'll likely slowly hint at other ships in hoping of luring back more of the old fan base over the season before the Barchies foam at the mouth and jump ship - so that they wont lose out on viewer numbers. Will that work? Probably not lmao but I still don't think BAs are going to get the perfect happily ever after they've invisioned

Whew! There’s a lot to unpack here. I will do my best to respond and try to make sense. 😂 I’m just going to go paragraph by paragraph.

1. It’s been said multiple times, by myself and others, that RAS never confirms anything. He’s always vague and misleading so as not to give anything away (which I’m of the opinion now that he actually doesn’t know where they are going with anything which is why the show became such a dumpster fire 🤷🏼‍♀️). It’s already been established that Lili never confirmed anything either. I’m convinced that BAs just don’t know the definition of that word.

2. I’m curious to know who the viewer base is now. They lost the BHs and VAs for sure. Casual viewers ditched because the storylines were so far out there that “jumping the shark” is too kind of a phrase to use at this point. Is it just BAs? If so, that would explain why the ratings are so low. Turns out, there are not as many BA fans as they BAs would want us to believe.

3. I am honestly baffled by how sure BAs are that they are going to get everything they have ever wanted when these writers have proven that they will screw anyone over just for drama. That overconfidence is really going to bite them in the ass one of these days (and hopefully soon!).

4. Yeah, the BA storylines in seasons 5 & 6 were nothing to write home about. I mean, yeah BA hooked up a lot but where was the romance? There wasn’t any. Didn’t they also go for a long stretch of episodes without interacting at all? And didn’t Betty kill Archie twice in the multi-verse? I just don’t get what there was to like about any of it, and if I were a BA I would be pissed.

5. Yeah, I don’t know what to say about Tabitha. By the time she joined the show, I had already stopped watching.

6. I would be absolutely shocked if they gained back any of the viewership they lost. It’s too late and too many bridges have been burned.

okay my unqualified too-long layman's opinions on rover (mini album) kai after 2 full listens and watching the video and looking up translations :

rover's pretty good! i like the salsa-y beat and the electronic complications on the acoustic sounds (like those woodwind and marimba loops that sounds straight out of a vaguely tropical-themed adventure game cd-rom) but halfway through i found myself getting bored!! but then with that lil spoken word part near the end it drew me back in to enjoying myself. first listen had me a bit underwhelmed but the second time i heard so many more of the production details. it was fun! and after seeing the mv i like it more. of course the choreo.... oh im going to RUN to the dance practice when it comes out. ugh the fits are so fun as well

black mirror is kinda naursty in like a good way i love it. the 'eugh. i don't need your attention.' the backing vocals. the noncommittal beat. YA and after seeing the lyrics im like damn maybe i should log off. king

sadly did not quite enjoy slidin'. it brings me back to listening to top 40 radio on my mp3 player a decade ago but in a bad way... like.... cheesy but i don't enjoy it. actually wait on second listen it's good up until the 50 second mark. the chorus ruins it for me..... man :(

bomba is fun i guess but it feels like a song u gotta hear in the club, down to the vocal production. it is intensely danceable!! that bouncy beat! i don't think i will really listen to it unless im trying to get hyped for going out. also 'do u like the way i mmmmmh' Yes

say you love me gets points for 'skrrt skrrt' but let's be clear i didn't like it. i like FELT the absence of an anti-drop on this one though which was a v interesting experience!

sinner i DO like because of the modulation on the instrumental and distortion on that staticky keyboard as well as production that puts emphasis on his vocals... i like this one the best out the the album. reminds me of perfume genius. immediately on my catholic guilt jams playlist. this one's interesting bc it's the only song with any reference to those incredible promo pics with the wings. hm

in conclusion i like what i see wrt the overall vibes of the sounds on this album, and i respect it (reminding me of sounds from pop music around 2010 and mixing em up with the silky intensity i expect from kai's vocals), but i'm not there yet. i didn't really like that music the first time around, i don't love it now. i totally vibe to the production sounding like it's coming out of someone's car radio when the bass buzzes in slidin' and say you love me, but the pop music i feel like its revering wasn't rly my cup of tea to begin with... but it's a v solid mini with a clear vision and execution

tbh the biggest "plot twist" in the story is how it feels like gu zhuoyan is set up to be the "wife chaser"---from the manhua promo pics showing him as the cold and aloof city guy in contrast to zhuang fanxin's naive and sweet countryside boy look, gu zhuoyan having stricter parents, gu zhuoyan being way richer, the setting of "he's only staying for a year", gu zhuoyan saying things like “i’ll make him fall for me to get back at my parents”, so i was rly shook when it's actually zhuang fanxin who constantly breaks his promises (though unintentionally) and becomes the "husband chaser" post-timeskip

their breakup chapters made me tear up ngl it was so drawn out and so so sad

the post-timeskip chapters r so fukin heavy?? like the author "tried" to make it a "romcom" with zfx chasing after gzy but there r so many inconsistencies in zfx's behavior and he's changed so much that one can't help but feel like there is something Extremely Wrong here

fak i was so invested in pei zhi and lu wen since they met in their teenage years but the author nvr stated they'd be a canon side ship but i still! shipped them!!!!

it's moumou but more depressing; i'd compare moumou to yybl's pts/fjx and hybw to waterfire, they kinda have that kind of vibe ish. moumou is very... at the core the drama is family-centered and jiang tian/sheng wang r rly quite "ideal" strong leads, and nothing drastic happens during the time skip, but in here zfx suffered so fukin much holy shit i'm so glad he got retribution and can finally be happy with gzy

there was a review that complained how zfx is inconsistent post timeskip, how he’s a “bad cop” professionally but turns into a muddling teenager when w gzy, and i just… rly disagree with that lmao like it’s p clear how he turned out like that, how he built this “stronger, better self” so he could cover up his history of depression and make it seem like he’s a better match for gzy than in the past

god when it was revealed that zfx's "let's break up bc i fell in love w someone else and he wants me to delete ur contact" call to gzy was a call he made before he attempted suicide and just wanted gzy to let go and move on to find someone better my heart broke… he literally called gzy and was happy to hear his voice before what he thought would be his death

other things that make me think: it was mentioned that zfx chased after gzy so desperately like his life depended on it, and zfx did say that if gzy rejected him, he'd just continue to live on and wish him well, but i just wonder what zfx would have done after that, is he rly ok, would he lapse back to thinking that there's nothing else worth living for anymore, bc gzy was literally his lifeline during his darkest times

the "op-ness" of mc n ml aren't overly emphasized unlike most other school setting danmei where both of them have legions of fangirls and campus forum posts abt them, it's kind of a minor detail but i appreciate the lack of cringe

pei zhi and lu wen aren't canon /unreasonable tbf the author nvr stated theyre gna be canon, nor did these two seem to have romantic inclinations towards one another... but the chemistry... the subtext... compared to cheng jiashu who doesn't seem to make a good impression in general ofc lu wen seems like the better option… also the author straight up said cheng jiashu is a plot device LMAO he literally only exists to move the story along…

has that v kdrama like climax where everything near the end suddenly becomes super dramatic, like the development is logical and laid out well but it's still... v dramatic…

lowkey the summary is misleading i thought they’d meet on a blind date after their separation as in their intended blind date is each other but then it was actually a wrong room situation instead… nothing wrong with it but webnovels and misleading summaries name a more iconic duo

yeah hld does have a lot of followers and especially since louis gets jack shit when it comes to promo, stuff like this is disappointing but it seems clear to me by the severity of the action that louis thinks the harm they're causing outweighs any of the good – like, don't get me wrong ,the streaming parties they've organized in the past as well as fundraisers for charities and stuff have all been incredible but the whole 'superfollower' thing and how they've clearly taken too much joy in the rumors of them actually having connections to louis/harry just show that they've kind of let the attention... get to their heads??? if anything hopefully this blocking will help them gain some perspective – i don't think anyone behind this ua is a bad person or anything and i think some people definitely ARE taking things way too far.

also louis isn't stupid. he's not the type of person to recklessly block a fan account, knowing that it would instantly be noticed and speculated upon by everyone especially since hld's platform is so big.

at the end of the day, i trust louis and his reasons for doing what he did. the thing is, we don't even know fully why he didn't and we probably never will... i saw that ss from someone saying another ua was sending lies to louis and... ngl we literally have zero reason to believe them. for all we know they sent that dm to themselves lol.

as for the 'rads' thing... let's be real, people are always going to find ways to hate on larries and that's unfortunately not going to change, but we don't have to let it bother us. i honestly don't care if people use this as a way to say louis hates larries or whatever because i don't believe that, and neither do any of us frankly, and that's all that matters. if someone tries to say something to you, just block them and try your best to ignore it. while words can definitely hurt, they're still just words. putting that into perspective always helps when people are being nasty (also people being nasty will always say more about them then you).

ALL THAT BEING SAID, this account has been controversial for a WHILE because of how they've handled things and while some solo fans or antis or other non-larries probably have hated on hld because it's a "larry" ua, that's not all they've had a problem with and in that respect, i also don't really care that they may be celebrating this today. that's also partly because i don't really care about what people outside of my own circle/community are saying/doing in ANY context and let me tell you that's a much more pleasant way to experience this fandom lol.
