i think you're deeply in denial about being a chase/cam shipper or you gotta change your definition of shipping or something. because whatever you're doing here absolutely 100% looks like shipping them. to the untrained eye

in reality i have this very multi long paragraph disclaimer that's too convoluted to even explain but here ya go:

i like seeing them interact because of this fact

i find their deeply complimentary set of flaws fascinating. i love seeing cameron in a Relationship because she's such a fucking unreliable narrator about herself. i like seeing chase in a relationship because the very concept of "putting someone besides yourself first" is so antithetical to him and the opposite of what he has learned his whole life. i want to put them in a room together. i want cameron to talk at glowing length about her soulmate dead husband and how she watched him die and i want chase to talk about watching his mother die and how much he hates and resents her. i don't know where that conversation would go but i Want It. it's like how i want chase and 13 to talk about murder and redemption together. it is a platonic smashing together of fake people, not about making them kiss

i think they were badly written in the sense that like. there's no writing. they're just together. now they're not. now chase has feelings. do we see them? no. now cameron has feelings. do we see them? no. now they date for three years. as someone who likes writing and narrative this drives me insane because it's so lazy.

i think i could do it better, not in a "because i want to write uwu fixit fanfic where they kiss" way but in a "this sort of writing drives me insane" way. like. huddy was badly written too but it very much existed. cameron and chase are just "oh btw chase fell for her at some point for some reason during fwb." why???? we can handwave but there is NOTHING IN CANON. cameron likes him too! why??? WHO KNOWS

however i also find it annoying when people go "solution: they never dated, we pretend it never happened" because that's ALSO lazy and retcons several years of canon including cameron's exit from the show. including the actual character development chase gets, which i actually do like. i think i'm a rare person who almost prefers late series chase. i like short haired chase. and i don't like the idea of erasing all that canon development just because "uwu i don't like it" (or, more petty, because "uwu i think cameron should have kissed x -- usually house -- so i hate this canon relationship that like it or not did exist")

this ties in to my actual fairly complicated feelings about cameron and how a lot of fandom tends to Girlboss her up in obvious and admirable contrast to her years of reddit-ish character bashing. where i admire the Spirit but deeply dislike this Girlboss characterization.

basically i am a deeply contrary person by nature

so whenever i see this ship i go IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, and OUT OF SPITE I WILL DEFEND IT, which is a whole perpetual motion machine of feelings

i honestly could not care less about them kissing. except for the specific episodes where they allude to having a sex life and foreman all but flees the room. i actually care quite a lot about that, i think it's super funny. so in that context (in front of foreman, to troll him) i want them to make out.

i've gone and read old ffn stories from when the show was airing that featured them as a couple. like from true fans and believers of the ship. i disagree with almost all of it and think usually cameron and usually chase are ooc in these stories. but in different ways. this also triggers my spite

i'm a massive idw comic fan and i'm currently reading through the series for the third time. anyways prowl isn't really that much of a heartless dick, that's fandom flanderization. while he does do a lot of morally fucked up shit (see kup being drugged, the whole thing with ratbat, combiners, how he treats the constructicons, tarantulus, ect.) but he's not doing it out of wanting to make people suffer

his whole thing is that he's doing it for the greater good and i think that's something a lot of people miss when they're writing him. not even just people who only see him as the guy who hurt their favourite blorbos, but also the people who write about him in a positive light. prowl has a lot of moments where he clearly expresses that he knows what he's doing is wrong but he's doing it because he knows that someone has to make the tough decisions and in the context of his battle computer (something he's been pretty much used for since he came online) he sees the world as probability.

so in his mind, if he has to send like 100 soldiers off to die in a battle to save a 1000 more, then it's worth it. it might make him seem like a dick to everyone else, but in his rationality, it's the correct thing to do.

and he's also not emotionless like i've seen people characterise him as. after he gets mind controlled by bombshell, he expresses on multiple occasions that he assumed people would notice, how he was hurt that no one did and like... fuck man i don't know. it hurts to think about him because i see a lot of the less talked about sides of autism in him. the fact that he was being mind controlled for seeming months and having his body commit horrible acts of violence all while he just had to watch it go down and then everyone just assumed it was prowl being prowl fucks me up so badly. he calls bumblebee his friend on multiple occasions. he's willing to work with the constructicons despite showing utter disdain for them before.

and the thing is. he's right a lot of the time. ratbat was planning on causing trouble. megatron didn't deserve a trial. optimus often couldn't make the hard decisions and it ended up costing him. he's so fascinating.

i know a lot of people hate idw1 prowl because he's an asshole and how he retains very little of the original g1 prowl's personality traits but i really fucking love him for all his shittiness.

ough... you're gonna make me feel sad about Prowl at this rate. He's an interesting character okay!! i love him, for all his shittiness, as you said.

Hi Rev, I hope it's not too awkward to ask, but I really really loved how you organized bookclub and the tristamp watch party and love all the discussions and analysis it brought on in the community here (I wasn't an active participant, but I participated in my heart and head every day with full excitement, enriched by the community).

To that end, I wanted to ask if you would ever consider hosting a trigun98 watch party, or if you'd have any tips to follow, since I think it's also an adaptation that did a lot of unique things to match the trigun essence and themes while having next to none of the official material as a reference. I'm personally find of building my own master doc analyzing the osts and the differences in each trigun iteration, and it fascinates me how they all diverge and reconverge on their themes. 98 is an adaptation that has a lot of depth to it if one scratches the surface to see how these unfolding events affect the characters differently, create new dynamics, and is arguably a lot more grim than the manga at times with how personal it becomes for our main characters. Despite that it holds a lighthearted attitude and outlook towards life.

Ah- that is me going off topic. I just thought I'd love to see what trigun lovers would think of it if we got a community event to look deeper into the series and discuss it, maybe even pointedly raise comparisons between the other adaptations.

I know that tristamp watch party is going to be active until the date the last episode aired, so I understand if this might be too much, or if the overlapping events might be too much. I just wanted to throw this thought out there, and also to give my thanks for all the positive energy you've built and spread through the community here.

Oh man, I'm so happy that you enjoyed them!!! Honestly, they were a blast to run. I didn't know what to expect going into either of them--I'm really just so shocked and kinda giddy that so many folks participated, had fun, and found friends through them. :D Regardless of if they created things or just read along!

I think a '98 watch party is a great idea! Unfortunately, I'm probably not the person to do it--I'm dealing with quite a bit and it's gonna be a rocky few months, bookclub 2.0 will be on the horizon at some point, and the other two Trigun iterations are more my bread and butter. (This isn't me shitting on it btw; it's exhausting scrolling through hate in the tags. Sure, I have criticisms for each version, but it's a very three-cakes scenario for me.)

But, like I said, this is an awesome concept for an event!!! I'm honestly a bit of a newb at running events, I've been on the fringes of mod teams before but these were the first ones that I actually ran, so I'm probably not the best to ask for advice given how much winging I do lol. I'd recommend looking at events you've enjoyed and emulating what they do, and getting the community involved as much as possible.

TL;DR: I can't do it, but if you or someone else wants to do it, go for it!!!

And then!!! Part TWO we get professor Javi, which is unfairly hot and the recognition from the voice and just.... oh my god it is everything. I mean this is just the perfect set up for dirty talk and boy does Javi have a mouth on him.

Every single one of these is incredible. I'm especially partial to the Oberyn x Sit on the Throne one because like... murder + dub con vibes and neither in the way you'd expect. I also adored Jack and Marcus Pike. Their dynamic was so good UGH. Anyway they're all amazing and you should read them.

Learning to Live - a Javi P series by @wheresarizona

This fucking fic is ruining my life. I've been completely consumed with it all week. I can see how a casual viewer of Narcos would say it's OoC for Javi, but I actually think it's kind of genius. Throughout the show you get all these slight glimpses into Javi's true nature: soft, sweet, caring, passionate, gentle... but he's so wrapped up in and beat down by everything in Colombia that he has to be an asshole or he won't fucking survive. The post-show Javi who is ready to start letting all that go is so fucking wonderful to see and I love that Cielito gets to help bring that out of him. The little moments of reconnecting with his family and remembering his mom bring me to tears. The long speeches in Spanish are just so lovely. If you need something to make you weak in the knees and a little teary eyed this is it. Passionate, adoring, filthy, gorgeous smut sandwiched between beautiful little moments of fluff and just the right amount of angst. Me encanta esta historia <3

With or Without You - a Javi P/Frankie series by @jksprincess10

Frankie is so adorable and sweet in this. He just wants to make reader feel good and he also wants to please Javi ugh. And reader is so mischievous getting Javi to do what she wants ahhhhh. And of course our dominant little Javi P is wonderful in this. Fucking top tier smut, Nad. We all know I love a MMF threesome fic lmao.

this is me trying - a Joel one shot by @swiftispunk

This is such a sweet platonic Joel and Ellie fic ugh. I really love fics that explore their relationship post season 1 and like... Joel coming to terms with everything. I loved the set up (similar to his panic attack in episode 6 when he sees the girl by the tree) and I love how Ellie comforts him in her own quintessentially Ellie way. You can see the bond they have where she just kind of knows what to do and say instinctively and it makes me so happy. I see a lot of fics where Joel is trying to comfort Ellie or get her to stop hating him for what he did and it's just really nice to see a fic where Ellie comforts him instead.

Cowboy Jack Daniels is a character who begs to be written as a stripper and this fic delivered. He's hot and sweet and I love it. Part two is sexy as all hell and features clumsy as fuck reader (which is so me). And then it drops the ANGST on you. God I love this. I cannot wait for part three.

The Secret - a Marcus M series by @frannyzooey

This collection of drabbles about a much older Marcus Moreno sneaking into your dorm at night is so fucking hot, y'all. I don't read a whole lot of Marcus Moreno unless he's being sweetly seduced by my favorite piece of shit human, Dieter Bravo. So I clicked on this bc it's by one of my favorite writers and was rec'd by another of my favorite writers and... alright. I'm on the Marcus Moreno train. I get it. Writerly questionaire

I was tagged by @xenascribbles (read its post here btw!!) and I've been wanting to do it for a while (it's been so long ago, I'm sorry!!!) because it sounds interesting. Unfortunately, it's long and I am NOT concise.

About me:

When did you first start writing?

I think I've mentioned this before, but I started writing in 5th/6th grade to kind of codify the lore and story of my friend group's playground activities (because a series of drawings was just not cutting it). Then, we collectively found out I enjoyed it and my friends started asking for fanfics of books we all liked.

Are the general themes you read different from the ones you write?

I don't really go out looking for the themes of a story, I usually focus on interesting plots or characters when I'm shopping for books (I know themes inform story and characters but you know what I mean). Also most themes in my stories are 100% a posteriori (DoS was my first time having themes in mind as I was writing). I usually write the 1st draft and go "oh shit, a theme".

Can you tell me a little about your writing space(s)? (room, coffee shop, desk, etc)

I mostly write in my room, usually sitting on my bed because I hate chairs. But I would be remiss if I didn't mention my college's big auditorium, specifically during boring architectural theory lessons. Any project of mine has been at least 30% written during class time, I can assure you.

What’s your most effective way to muster up some muse?

I go for a Really Long Walk while listening to music. And fun fact: I've had to make my walks bigger because of this, because when I'm having Thoughts I start speedwalking like a crazy person and it was genuinely shortening my Idea Time because I got home too quickly.

Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?

I wouldn't say it's a 1 to 1 thing, but I think the environments in our lives always afects us. In terms of the places I write about, I think my fascination with circuses and magic shows (from which came B&W) stems from the fact that there are no good ones around here. The ones from my childhood were genuinely so lame. But I think mostly it's the way I was raised? My parents are artists and they've made a point of showing me all kinds of art since, like... ever, and I feel like it really influenced me as a person and, therefore, my writing.

Are there any recurring themes in your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all?

A few years back, I noticed a tendency in my main characters to feel a great sense of nostalgia towards the past, in a way? There was a very prevalent sense of "things were ok at a previous point in my life but not now and I wanna go back". I don't really understand where this came from tho.

Would you please tell me about your favorite character? (Current wip, past wip, never used)

I am, on every level, deeply insane about every single named character in DoS. But mainly Seth and General Fallin. I just think they're really interesting. I particularly like the general, mostly because I have almost no chances to write about him, while Seth is the POV character. There's just something about the different perceptions of his actions that are integral his character as a general in a war setting, as well as his inherent hypocrisy in constantly stating how much he cares for his people and being more than willing to commit atrocities for them. Idk, he's got that Nuance.

Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life?

Probably Reyna, from B&W. When I first wrote her, I was her age and tried to create someone who I'd like to hang out with.

Which of your characters would you dislike most in real life?

I already despise Nester from the dystopia WIP and he's not even real. And also, I think Diedrich would be insufferable irl.

Tell me about the process of coming up with one, all, or any of your characters.

Most of them kinda start out as concepts. For example, Seth came to be because "healer that takes the life of everything around them for power" sounded like a cool idea. Sometimes they're informed by characters I like or historical figures: Viktor is loosely based on Robespierre, Lucille is vaguely inspired by Cio-Cio San, General Fallin has some faint hints of Griffith, etc.

Do you notice any themes/traits about your characters?

I've noticed that every single one of my 4 WIPs has the extremely specific trope of an older character using the protagonist as a replacement for their dead loved one (usually their child, but sometimes disciple or younger sibling) and projecting onto them. I have no clue where tf this came from but it feels like something a psychoanalyst would greatly enjoy.

How do you picture them?” (as real people you imagined/as models/actors that exist in real life/as imaginary artwork, as artwork you made or commissioned, anime style, etc)

I actually picture all my characters in my artstyle!! Actually, I "see" most of the worlds in my stories through my own artstyle!

What’s your reason for writing?

You see, I have all of these ideas. They are just lying around. And, as I said before, just drawing them isn't gonna cut it.

Is there a specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?

On what is actually my least-read fic on ao3, a person left me a multiple paragraphs-long comment about how they would be thinking about that fic for years, that I wrote the characters as "canon but better", that they would read any other fics I posted in the future, and that they made an account to leave said comment. I'm not saying that this is the only type of comment I enjoy, but it has really stuck with me for the past year and when I read it I kinda wanna cry. So. I guess that.

How do you want to be thought of by those that read your work? (for example, as a literary genius, or as a writer who “gets” the human condition as a talented worldbuilder, or a role model, etc)

I've always wanted to be one of those writers that just really Gets the human mind, you know? Like, I've read stories where my regular person brain was going through all sorts of Things while my writer brain kept shouting "THIS MAKES SENSE!! THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!", and that's who I want to be. (I feel like I'm not expalining myself correctly???) This is kind of a tangent, but I've read/watched stories so good that I was left just literally Sitting There, my thoughts completely silent, literally incapable of being a functioning human being for about an hour because my brain just wouldn't come down from the story. And that's my goal in life <3

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

Probably my character building.

What have you frequently been told your greatest writing strength is by others?

My story ideas/concepts. Like settings and worldbuilding and such.

How do you feel about your writing? (answer in whatever way you interpret that question)

Overall, I like it! I spent a long time working to a point where I can actually enjoy my own work. And I'm obviously not saying it's perfect. No one sees more flaws in it than me (bc I virtually never show it to anyone), but I won't say it's bad to sound better. I'm having fun, dammit!

If you were the last person on earth, and knew that your writing would never be read, would you still write?

I would still have stories to write even if there was no one to show them to. I would still draw and sing without an audience too. Because my art is, at its core, for me. It's a need.

When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? if it’s a mix of the two, which holds the most influence?

I used to consider what others might like, and I still kinda do sometimes because my main beta reader is my MOM, but I've mostly let it go tbh. After draft 2 of B&W I shouted "I'M NEVER WRITING ROMANCE AGAIN!!!" and here we are. At the end of the day, I'm writing mostly to have fun, so I should be able to do whatever I want.

Me before attempting to write Olimar again, one year ago: "Okay, this'll be interesting. Writing a character who isn't severely fucked up on two or five levels (but will be by the time I'm done with him). This will be nice a little experiment for myself."

Me now, having catapulted down the character study rabbit hole as I tend to: "Oh dear god, wait a minute: this guy is as deeply fucked up on the level of whom I usually write for! And I don't think that was my fault for once! I've been deceived! What the fuck?!"

(TL;DR: Your tags and ramblings made me Think, thank you. I'm certain you are having a blast tearing him to shreds in some terrible way I've yet to think of myself lol.)

i have only really truly known this guy for a bit over a year and every little bit ive learned about him has only pushed me ever deeper into this endless well of fascination with whatever the fuck is wrong with him. this guy is a pathological liar as a method of self-soothing. who DOES that. how the fuck did he arrive in this scenario.

really when you get down to it olimar is like, perhaps one of the most depressed characters of all time, it's just that he's carefully crafted a presentation of symptoms that very cleverly hides this from both the audience and himself. this guy is literally miserable. he viscerally hates his boss and is frustrated with his coworkers where they're even relevant. he has somewhere in the range of mixed feelings on his job but generally wishes that it allowed him more time with his family. his family, which has so many undeniable problems it's difficult to even list them. where to start: his kids? his wife? his parents? every happy memory he has involves his family and most of those memories are brief glimpses at Connection that otherwise seems so absent from the rest of his life. he's a middle-aged man with a house and a yard and a wife and two-kids-and-a-dog and probably a white picket fence for good measure. he's ticking all the boxes that he was raised* to think were a one-way ticket to happiness. so why is he still so lonely? why isn't he happy? what is this general malaise that's hanging over his entire life? what's wrong with him?

(*whether or not he was actually raised on a variant of the american dream is a really interesting question but honestly not relevant here. there's a lot of interesting evidence in his logs supporting something more nuanced, but again. irrelevant)

and olimar's answer is that Actually! there's Nothing wrong! he's perfectly fine and perfectly happy and perfectly satisfied with everything in his life. nothing is wrong and he's perfectly happy and even if he weren't (which he is!!!!) he still has so many things that would make up for it. he has so many good memories that are just his that he can hold on to as hard as he possibly can for as long as he needs to until he feels better. he can write them down and read them back as a reminder until it sticks in his brain that He Is Happy. There Is Nothing Wrong. He Is Happy And There Is Nothing Wrong. because he did everything right, didn't he!! he made his choices and for the all the love of everything he holds dear he is going to stick by them. because he needs to. because if he doesn't, where would he even be?

and then this guy has the worst "vacation" of his entire life (DEFINITELY another blatant self-soothing lie btw, you CANNOT convince me that this guy would spend any more time away from his family than he absolutely has to what with his career) and the cracks actually kind of start to show. because he is very quickly launched into the worst series of circumstances he's ever experienced. and through it all he's just!! completely fucking Normal about it!! utterly fucking accepting of any outcome that happens to him because he doesn't feel like he really has any control. like he ever had any control. he should have fucking died. even before the thirty days are up he's just passively accepting of whatever happens. there are tons and tons of treasure descriptions or other entries where he expresses very explicit passive suicidality through things that could be jokes or offhand comments but really don't read like that. pikmin 1's entry for day 29 reads more like a reminder that he should at least try to not let himself die than an earnest attempt to actually do so.

and it's like, if he does survive pikmin 1, what does he even win? ever-increasing stakes at his job and ever-fewer ways to pretend that everything's fine. an ever-brighter flashing neon sign reading QUIT YOUR FUCKING JOB that he has to try increasingly hard to ignore. the job that keeps sending him back to the planet that almost killed him. the job that keeps sending him back to the planet where he barely survived by only his wits and the skin of his teeth. the job that keeps sending him back to the planet where he will die, because no one was supposed to save olimar.

and through it all you can see! you can SEE the way he gets increasingly stressed out as things go along. but he's still just going along trying his damnedest to pretend that everything is fine and he is happy and he doesn't need any help, that he shouldn't be trying to make an exit as quickly as he can and to maybe ask his wife to pick up a job so they can be a dual-income household now that their kids are a bit older. he doesn't need to be looking for anything better because he has the best he's going to get right here, and isn't that wonderful? shouldn't that make him happy?

and it's like, the way things are going he's never going to get there, and on some level he knows that. but olimar's whole fucking deal is that if he can't solve something he's going to throw himself at the problem over and over until either it gets solved or his skull splits open, a pattern that is only reenforced by the events of pikmin 1 and 2 and 3. so he knows that he's never going to be happy, but he's going to try this impossible task of being happy over and over until he either fakes it till he makes it or something kills him. so far it hasn't worked out for him, but maybe the NEXT time he blows up at somebody for no reason because he just can't take the stress of it all anymore!

as it turns out i have no idea how to end this, so on a tangentially related note: olimar is not a biologist by any standard and i will die on this hill. ALL of his piklopedia entries are creative writing exercises and i can ALMOST prove this. but that's a whole other post honestly. just kind of adds to the whole thing about how much olimar lies to the reader and himself.

I've been playing AC 4 black flag on the switch (got the rebel collection when it was on sale) and have been loving it, looking to get further into the series. What games do you recommend? I LOVE ASSASSIN'S CREED SOSOSSOOSOSO MUCH I'M SO HAPPY THAT YOU'RE ENJOYING IT AS WELL !!!! I've legit been following this series ever since I was much younger and I played ac1 and just absolutely fell in love with the entire concept <333 honestly it's such a fascinating series and it has such a place in my heart that I'm just so happy to hear more people being interested in the series.... but as for game recs!!!

Assassin's Creed 1, I know, kinda cliché to recommend the first game, but I still think this game is a fantastic introduction to the main themes of the story and atmosphere. I will warn you, it is the first game of the series so it isn't super polished as the later games, but I still think it's a wonderful introduction and Altair is still, hands down, one of the best ac characters out there. If you're okay with a bit more dated graphics then I think you'll really enjoy it :]] it was made in 2007 so like, it does NOT have the amount of graphical polish that blackflag has lmao.

Assassin's Creed 3 - not even joking, probably one of the absolute best games in the entire series and Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor and Haytham are two of the absolute best characters that ac has to offer. It's basically a tragedy between a father and son, the turmoil of colonial America, and just how hopeful yet damning the entire story is. The game is also fucking amazing as well thanks to the modern side plot which I still was at its absolute best in this very same game. There's just so much to say about this game, but it has an marvelous story, atmosphere, characters, and the sheer amount of tragedy going on in this game makes me want to cry sometimes. It's still so wild to me that this game is still one of the best in the series, it's that fucking goooooddddd GOD !!!!

Assassin's Creed Syndicate - okay, so, this game is so fucking fun it's unreal. I did not expect just how fun this game would be and Evie and Jacob are such wonderful characters as well!! You might've noticed that I've gotten especially attached to Jacob, which I did not expect at all when I first began the game!! The conflict between the twins is probably one of the highlights of the entire game and just how much tragedy, misunderstanding, and love is between them makes me want to sob. I've written entire meta pieces on the both of them, but Jacob in particular makes me want to burn down the world for him and him alone- okay actually add Arno to that list. This game also has one of the cooler templar villains! Crawford Starrick was such an unexpected bonus to the game, but I very much loved his presence :] but yeah I'm . totally normal about this game . very very normal. This game is everything to me . JACOB !!! JACOB !!!!! MY BOOOYYYYYYYY !!!!!!! Play it for Him......

Assassin's Creed Unity - AHHHHHHH AHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!! !!! OKAY UNITY IS SO GOOD I REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THE UNITY HATE ITS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES IN THE SERIES DO NOT LISTEN TO REDDIT !!!! Deadass probably one of the best stories in the entire series and Arno is so :( he's so :( honestly one of the most human assassins we ever see and just watching his struggles, the turmoil of the French revolution, his struggles with loss and redemption... how he fights so hard for justice, peace, and hope, only for it to be endlessly snatched from his hands... Arno being the emotional core of the story and it's such a fucking tragedy because he couldn't have done anything to stop it, not really, but god he tried and he blames himself either way. Arno's section with the French brotherhood and Bellec is EXTREMELY GOOD btw ^-^ there's this one part of the game that I got so excited about I paced in circles for literal hours !!!! Arno ..... My boy ..... My Everything .......

Honorable Mention: Assassin's Creed Revelations - honestly? I think the entire Ezio trilogy is pretty solid, but all of the above games are better imo. I really liked revelations though! ^-^ the only issue is that to understand revelations you need to play the two other games before it to understand what the hell is going on with Ezio LMAO. Still! If you're willing to dedicate the time to the entire trilogy, I think you will not be disappointed :] the Ezio trilogy also has subject 16 and the glyphs which are SOOOOOOOO fun and spooky, I miss them alot...

I haven't played all of the ac games, not yet at least, but I'm planning on playing all of them!! Rn I'm playing rogue and it's pretty fun so far! :D but yeah, these are my top recommendations!! This series is just so dear to me, I love it alot... and if you're curious, my favorite characters are: Jacob Frye, Arno Dorian, Desmond Miles, Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor, and Altair! But yeah <333 I really really hope you have fun if you decide to play any of these games <33 they're all so . yeah . chews on them .

I attended the Notting Hill Carnival (27 Aug 2023 – 28 Aug 2023) for the second time and high expectations were met. It was a great time, but I must admit, my interaction with the carnival isn't quite like most people's. I go there to photograph and document the event, but I do it as part of my “artistic expression” (sorry for the fake highbrow). While others revel with friends to party, I'm more of a memory hoarder and archivist for the carnival. A girl with a hump and cap looking through a camera.

Don't get me wrong; I dance, admire the stunning costumes, and have fun, but not quite in the typical way it's intended. It's my way of enjoying the carnival, and I can't imagine going and not photographing it. That's my main desire at the carnival—to be a mirror for it, a tiny grain looking outward into that vast sea of energy.

For the past two years, I've focused on a photojournalism style because the event itself and the people within it are fascinating to me. I want to reflect the carnival as it is, but even in this approach, it's still very subjective photography. I choose who to photograph, under what circumstances, how to frame the image, and later, I select and edit the pictures. So, it's not reality, but it's the carnival through my experience.

Btw I welcome any notes or comments on this series :)

I observed numerous photographers and videographers on-site and had the pleasure of discovering their work on social media. It's a joy to see their personal reflections of the carnival. Capturing this incredible party filled with culture and people who open their hearts and identities for the camera is like a gift for a photographer. They reveal themselves in all their euphoria, and it's an unforgettable experience to be a part of.

One of the reasons I feel very fortunate to be living in London (or more like surviving London) is the opportunity to attend this J'ouvert. It's one of the few parties where I have an absolute blast.

This year, it took me a while to process my own work and edit it. Part of the reason is that I took more pictures and spent more hours at the carnival than last year. However, this doesn't necessarily mean the pictures are better; there were just more to go through, and I needed to take my time. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed with this year's photos compared to last. I'm not sure if it's because the novelty has worn off a bit or if I wasn't at the top of my game those two days. I'm quite rusty since I hardly take my camera out anymore and I really should do it more since even the camera's batteries die on me from lack of use!

My success depends on finding stories and interesting individuals at the carnival and being able to react quickly to capture the moment. Many times, I've seen something worth photographing and fumbled the opportunity. I hate when that happens, but it's bound to occur.

Additionally, while editing the pictures, I quickly realized that I had used the wrong camera settings (What a delight!). The pictures were noisy and looked of low quality. They seemed fine on the tiny camera screen, but on the computer, they resembled images taken with a 2000s Nokia. Lesson learned, or maybe not so much, as it seems I did worse than last year. But I'll certainly be more cautious in the future, ensuring I set the right parameters on the camera and invest in a better lens for fast-paced events. There should be no excuses, but as I mentioned last year, I often have mere seconds to capture a shot, dealing with whatever light conditions the sun or tree shadows throw at me and the speed at which my subjects move. So, it's not easy.

The AI noise reduction tool in Photoshop has helped salvage some of these photos that might otherwise have been discarded due to cases of "this person looks amazing, but the picture is shit". So, if you notice unreal smooth skin or odd lines in shadows, it's probably the AI at work.

As I write this text, I'm using an AI to assist me (hi chat), and it will be processed and grammatically corrected by it. Thus, both the images and text in this series bear the touch of artificial intelligence. Part of it is due to my mistakes, lack of time and skill, but it's also because AI is a valuable collaborator. I appreciate the style it adds to the photographs (and the grammar haha), making it a great creative partner for now. Let's see how it evolves in the future…

Another noteworthy aspect is that I've been sharing a lot about my experiences at the Notting Hill Carnival with a close friend, Carmen (too humble/shy to share last name). She always provides interesting interpretations and insightful comments on everything I tell her. She seemed amused by my stories and photos of the carnival, so I asked her if she'd be interested in creating some text based on the photographs.

Carmen has done some great work to accompany one of these series, the LOVE series (the text is in Spanish btw). She has never attended the Notting Hill carnival, so she based the experience on these pics. I really like how she writes, so I was very happy to have her included here.

I hope you enjoy the photographs and the information I tried to dig up on the culture behind the costumes and the traditions I saw. Of course, if you want to know more do your research and don't stop here, as there's lots to discover. Also, I want to make a disclaimer that the specific meaning of these scenes at the Notting Hill Carnival can vary widely among participants. Carnival costumes and symbols are highly individualistic and can be influenced by a person's cultural background, personal beliefs, or creative inspirations.

Z-King: So now that you have finished Beast Wars what do you think of it as a whole? What are your favorite characters? and What do you think you would have done differently if you were running it?

Beast Wars as a whole...7/10. Season 3 definitely lowered the score, but again, I don't put entire blame on the writers. I put blame on Hasbro because it's just a habit of them to cut Transformer shows for toys.

Because we see Season 1, which was a 10/10 btw, and Season 1 is phenomenal when it comes to story telling and character development. Maybe because season 1 had 26 episodes compared to both season 2 and 3 that only had 13. But season 2 was better than season 3.

Favorite Characters were Rattrap, Tigatron, and Dinobot. I mean Rattrap was just a menace and he's great. When first introduced, I thought I wasn't going to like him because of his attitude and cowardice, but you see him prove his metal and get the job done. He was so much fun.

Tigatron was so interesting because he was a Cybertronian that was more in touch with his animalistic side. If he survived the Beast Wars, he probably would have stayed on Earth. He was a genuinely and fascinating character because while the others were trying to ignore there animal side, he embraced it, and it didn't hinder him.

Dinobot was a redemption done right. There. I said it. He was a Predacon ousted by Megatron and tried to take over the Maximals. Even though he's allowed to join, he's still treated at arms length by many on the team. Even so, Dinobot was valuable because he brought up valid points on how Megatron would act in certain situations and that the Maximals needed to do what they had to in order to survive. He wasn't wrong. Dinobot brought up extremely valid points in the show about Megatron's behavior and war overall. And he was someone who valued honor, something Megatron didn't.

When Dinobot in season 2 is going through the moral, ethical dilemma about changing the future and his own fate, it's a difficult decision he has to grapple with. Does he even have a choice in his own destiny that's been written in stone, or would trying to change it solidify his fate? In the end, he chooses save humanity, even though he knows it will cost him his life. It was his choice, but he had no choice at all in regards to his fate. It was devastating to see him throw away his honor to survive, but it was also devastating to see him throw away his life to save the future of an entire species.

Now: What the hell would I cut?

-Silverbolt was clearly a replacement for Tigatron and I hate him for it. His honor was quite hypocritical because the fucking Chimera wanted to top the Spider, which is why he didn't kill her and kept going out of his way to save her! He wanted to get laid! If you wanted to do a romance story, Tigatron and Airazor were right there, compatible, and Maximals who enjoyed nature! And you decide to kill them for toys?!

And again! Why is everyone simping over Blackarachnia?! Like Cheetor seriously! Keep it in your pants!

(I would just scrap that storyline, and Silverbolt entirely)

-Blackarachnia I would have preferred her remaining a villain.

-The Dinobot clone in season 3. It didn't feel right, and why would Megatron clone someone again that clearly failed at it's previous job.

-The Aliens should have been like a season 3 finale and the final Predacons vs Maximal battle should have been a season 4 finale.

-The Starscream indestructible spark thing was never really explained. He really just showed up and left.

-Depthcharge should have been introduced earlier.

-Introducing Tigerhawk and then killing them off felt pointless.

-The whole season 3 Cheetor didn't sit right with me, it made me like Cheetor even less. Also his design in season 3 was even worse.

-I was sick of Waspinator being the butt of the joke. They didn't really have him do much, and I'm surprised he ended up surviving by the end of the series.

-Beast Wars Megatron was definitely more of the smarter Megatron's and I still stand by that, I don't think there'd be much to change about him.

-Also, more of a pet peeve if anything: why is death so inconsequential during certain episodes? Like Megatron got blown to pieces by Terrorsaur, but they dropped in the healing tank equivalent to Dragon Ball's senzu bean and he was literally back to life in the next few scenes. Some of these characters have gotten squished, blown to pieces, stabbed, and they somehow survive. Like...what are we doing here?

Anyway, those are my remaining thoughts on the show.

How did you like Revelation? And what about the other new He-Man show, have you checked that one out yet? Speaking of LWA, too bad that the magic system doesn’t really fit into the Kryptonverse, because that would be an interesting inclusion. Am I correct in assuming that you are a fan of a certain ship from that series, BTW?

I really liked it! I found it fascinating that they took this silly children's cartoon and made a sequel that took those ridiculous elements and played them straight by modern cartoon storytelling standards. What if those adventures had happened as they did? And what if one of them went terribly wrong? What if these colorful, silly characters were to be met with grief, death in battle, the consequences of failure, and the horrible truths of the universe?

It's kinda like Steven Universe Future in what it attempts, though while very good, I didn't enjoy SUF much. I think it's because I was so invested in SU's characters, and robbing them of their happy ending ultimately just made me too sad and bitter to fully appreciate it. I had no such attachment to the He-Man cast, so I had no problems there.

It wasn't perfect, but I thought it handled most of those topics very well, and the action ranged from pretty good to masterful. Really glad I finally watched through it! Also, Mark Hamill as Skeletor is perfection - he makes groan-worthy puns every two lines and kills people without a care and somehow he makes it work. Amazing.

I did watch a few episodes of the CGI He-Man show; I won't lie, I'm not really vibing with the look of it, but I did find it entertaining enough to keep watching later. I'll have more of an opinion to share when it really gets going, I'm sure.

I may or may not be rewatching LWA precisely to figure out if it can be adapted into the Kverse without losing too much of its identity. The unfortunate reality is that I'm not really comfortable writing HP content, for obvious reasons, so while I'm sticking with my decision not to go back and axe it outright (too many knots to untangle, not enough time), since I don't expect these circumstances to change in the foreseeable future, I likely won't be writing any more HP content in the Kverse. This means I have to look for an alternative magic school setting or something to that effect that can fill that niche.

I don't know if LWA is gonna be that "replacement", but it's a candidate, at least. I'd be willing to hear other suggestions, too - though bear in mind, I can't afford to read lengthy book series or watch huge shows with dozens of episodes.

(I mean, yeah, it's kinda hard not to. Blue/Red couple, big WhiteRose vibes, lots of good fics about them. I actually kind of like Akko with Andrew, too, but he and Diana hate each other's guts and Akko doesn't have the attention span for a poly relationship LOL)

From what I've seen, S1 is somewhat controversial, fans either love it or hate it. In retrospect, I enjoy rewatching it more than I did the first time because it feels nostalgic to revisit the characters back when they were young and naive and things were much simpler than they become in S2 onwards. Angel (1x7) and Prophecy Girl (1x12) are fan favorites for sure. And I know a lot of people dislike Teacher's Pet (1x4) and The Pack (1x6). I have a soft spot for Out of Mind Out of Sight (1x11) because iirc it's the first episode that shows us that there's more to Cordy than meets the eye (and btw, if you enjoy her character, she's the female lead of ATS, so that's another reason to watch it!)

I've seen it said that s1 is too campy or whatever and sure, it can be, but I give it the 1997 benefit of the doubt and I actually quite enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll back on it differently once I've seen all seasons but to me it's not much different from Doctor Who series 1 and that was almost a decade later with about the same special effects and campiness. And I love series 1! Ninth Doctor ftw.

I feel like I actually preferred the monster of the week eps over ones that got back to the overarching plot of The Master and even over the Angel one. Don't get me wrong, they were interesting to watch but Angel's ch and backstory are quite predictable from a modern lens and the overarching plot of season 1 is meh. Maybe it's because modern TV is so serialized but I find the monster of the week format refreshing and I thought the ideas were interesting enough, for the most part. Always a bit of mystery, a bit of horror, and a bit of lit analysis going on about what the metaphor is this week. I enjoyed that. But I imagine the larger plots get more intricate as time goes on, if only because that's how TV evolved at large at that time.

For example, I find The Pack oddly fascinating! Disturbing, yeah, but it's a compelling piece of television and it made me think a lot more than the Angel ep. 1x11 was a good one too, and I also liked seeing more of Cordy and have her be more of a character rather than just a stock queen bee bully. Good to hear she's a main in ATS! I heard she was in it but to find out that she's the second lead is interesting.

I'm done with s2A now Anon (as in up to 2x13) so if you want to send some thoughts in I'd love to read them. Favs of this era, flops? Let me tell you I did not expect Spike to show up so early on and I did not expect that attempt at a British accent from James Marsters. I hear he gets better and by god I hope he does because I enjoy him as an actor and the accent is distracting at times. Also did not expect Seth Green to show up this early.

Fever series brought better concepts and it's continuing, the MVs as well 👌🏻 but musically I would say Treasure was the most varied. And justice for their debut album, it's really solid! I don't mind GLB, but I prefer to watch a performance of it, still I think it's a nice track.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone draw parallels between Feyre leaving Tamlin for her Mate to Elain leaving Azriel for her Mate. (Ignoring the fact I hate Rhysand, the books obviously want me to think he's the best person ever so I'll just pretend). Because that's what I see happening.

Elain and Azriel are so clearly rebounds for one another. Elain's still grieving her human love and life, and Azriel is still hung up on Mor. They're both quiet and available, so they jump to each other. That's it. The Azriel POV was purely about what he wants. How he wants to fuck her and taste her. He's just sex to her.

Even if E/riels had a more convincing case, it's not like SJM hasn't pulled a SIKE on us before. If she goes anywhere with E/riel, she'll undoubtedly pull it back. SJM doesn't take Mating bonds lightly, and she's stated that she loves Lucien. And if anyone deserves the happiness of a bond, it's him.

Feyre and Rhys, and Cassian and Nesta, all had relationships/lovers before Mating. Elain "liking" Az now, (which we're not even clear on), doesn't really mean much.

honestly there are quite a few feysand/elucien parallels that people either don't see or choose to ignore.

rhysand was first presented as a villain to feyre, the same could be applied to lucien just bc of his envolvement with tamlin (that he wrongfully gets blamed for btw idk why e/riels love blaming tamlin's mistakes on lucien). feyre was engaged before she went to rhys, elain was engaged before she met lucien. both were/are? still hung up on their former fiances. feysand as a couple represents the night, elucien would represent (at least in part) day. it's literally night and day with them. they're similar but also wholly their own pairing, it's fascinating to me.

anyway i think i will use this ask to spill some of my e/riel opinions sorry about that! alright let's start off with this controversial statement: i don't think e/riel was ever meant to be endgame.

i've seen it said a few times over the years that sarah changed her mind about elucien and while that's possible bc she also previously changed her mind on lucien and nesta one has to ask themselves..... if she wanted to write a mate bond rejection why didn't she stick with her original plan of lucien and nesta being mates? she's said herself that they wouldn't work but she chose to change lucien's mate to someone who compliments him better, and it's to feyre's other sister no less. that tells me lucien is important and powerful, he's mated to one of the sisters, one of the key players of the entire series.

another point is we can assume (and we could be wrong, let me put this here before someone yells at me or vague blogs about it) that sjm had an elucien endgame in mind when writing acowar, right? and when she was touring for that book hadn't she already started work on acofas? and we know that she's never on social media, so if she had an elucien endgame in mind when she wrote all of the supposed e/riel "evidence" where does that leave us?

drama. tension. conflict. angst.

i think that's what it all comes down to. people will say that elucien was a front while e/riel is the true endgame but... it all seems a bit easy, doesn't it? e/riel is right in your face while elucien is silently brewing in the background. what if the bait and switch isn't elucien, but e/riel?

sarah has shown us before that she likes to use her characters as ways for her other characters to end up with their endgame matches. for example, without tamlin, feyre wouldn't have met rhys. and moving over to throne of glass for a second, if not for chaol, aelin wouldn't have met rowan. and in turn, if aelin hadn't given yrene the money she needed in tab, chaol wouldn't have met her.

are the e/riel scenes romantically coded? yes, probably. i'm not saying they aren't, some people picked up on it but i personally didn't get that vibe myself, especially in acowar, but acofas kinda blurred the lines a bit. but even then, i didn't think they'd work out and i still don't understand the arguments that are supposed to be in their favor from that book. elain says she doesn't want a male so that excludes lucien but not azriel somehow? that line means she doesn't want any fae, she wants a human man, she wants graysen. then we have lucien saying he can't even stand to be in the same room as elain which i never read as a "oh i hate this person" kinda way. no, it's bc the whole situation between them is awkward and it obviously makes both of them uncomfortable. it doesn't help when literally all of the inner circle is constantly around them, and being in the night court in general doesn't give them the privacy to get to know each other.

some people like to ask why build e/riel up at all if they're not going to be together? one thing i've always loved about sjm's books is how she can write relationships. now, let's say you meet someone irl and you like them, eventually maybe fall in love with them, and fail to notice how they're not good for you. maybe everyone around you can see it, but you don't. you want a relationship and you're in a decent one, it should work out. like they're not a bad person, this relationship just isn't right for you in the long run. why waste your time? it's life. sometimes things are good for you at a certain point in time but not later on. sometimes you just end up in a relationship that was never good for you. sometimes you fall out of love with someone. you're constantly learning and adapting to things and that's my stance on e/riel. i think they're both looking for companionship and they're the "safest" and most available option.

taking it back to acofas, azriel was relived to not have to get elain a gift and was still gazing longingly at mor. now in acosf he's avoiding talking about her while wanting to fuck elain and getting defensive when helion mentions mor. he's not over her. he's not going to just completely forget 500 years of pining bc elain showed up, especially when they haven't even helped one another to move on. if they had, we would have seen the proof of that. not just "oh she's hot we both want sex", that doesn't make a healthy relationship.

as for elain, she's been taught she has to act a certain way her entire life. she has to downplay her trauma and emotions to appease others so they don't worry about her. maybe she's even had visions involving lucien that upset/scare her somehow and she's reaching out for something else. i think they're both lonely and desperate (at least on az's end) for someone that they ultimately are drawn to the wrong people.

as for the lack of elucien development... this is how i see it. if they're endgame, why would sarah have all of their big moments happen off screen or as a throwaway line in acosf? elain is getting a book, we know this, and with how much of the story is tied to lucien and how much is left unresolved with him, we can also assume he'd get a pov at some point. so imo it makes sense for the fact we got little to no development for them in acosf. no, she wants a huge wedge between them so we can watch them come together. the payoff will be that much sweeter. kinda similar to how she put a wedge between nessian before acosf, sure they had more development in acowar than elucien but i think that's bc sarah knew they'd get the first spinoff. she had to give them that development whereas elucien can wait, a bit longer. it's frustrating yes but i do think we'll get something in acotar 5.

maybe i'm an optimistic fool, maybe sarah did at one point have an endgame in mind for them, but i find it hard to believe she wouldn't see how wrong they are for each other in the long run. she's very good at showing us how well characters fit together with just a few lines.

After about being an hour into the auction the both of you started to get awfully bored, simply because well it was quite boring. You would think there would be a tiny bit more energy, but alas the only thing interesting that happened was two trust fund boy getting into a fistfight over a girl, who clearly wasn't interested in either of them. You shot her an apologetic look because it had to be an unpleasant situation for her. Sometime you just wanted to bitchslap some people, and frankly currently you were mentally beating up those two boys.

It only got better after that because all the items that were being displayed just hadn't been remotely appealing to you two, yet they sold off.

Currently being two hours in with no end in sight the two of you regret your decision to come in the first place, so does Chuuya as of now he's on his second glass of wine.

Three hours in your just about to lose your mind, so you settle on attempting to bid on a little abstract palette knife painting that actually was very intriguing, and surprisingly you actually successfully landed the bid because it wasn't extravagant enough for the other people currently sitting in the audience. You even didn't dig out of Chuuya's pocket either. The little square shaped canvas fascinated you. The multi colored flecks danced across the like star at night combined with the colors of the autumn season and shadows. It wasn't mean't to depict anything in particular, nor was it much, but there was just something about it that you could keep away from it.

Four hours in Chuuya is definantly tipsy, and working on his fourth glass of wine. So you made the decision to take away his drinking privileges until he's more sober for the time being. Then while waiting for the event too end so you can pick up the paint (and questioning the broker while you're picking it up from him) you decide to take a nap.

Your eyes started to drift shut, leaning against the velvety chair you sink back into it trying to find a position that won't cramp your neck. When it finally perfect you started to drift off, trying to kill some time in between waiting periods.
