Went camping in the mountains last weekend

#first time camping away from home by myself #was kinda scary but it was really nice #except the last night i was there i got woken up by a big ass tree limb falling on my tent #and it took me over an hour to calm.down enough to go back to sleep it scared the shit out of me #its interesting how like.. unreasonable? we are in fear. as in we kinda throw away logic and get really scared at everything #like for a minute after that part of me was afraid that someone was trying to hurt me by.. climbing on the roof of a shed and dropping limb #limbs on my tent? but my brain was like 'well what if !! we need to be careful!!'#it didnt even damage my tent at all but i think i fucking screamed and rushed out of my tent in a blind panic #and i sure am glad i wasnt sleeping shirtless or smth #but yea camping is super fun and im gunna go more i think #maybe not on holiday weekends tho. i was just going up for an event i didnt know it was a holiday

i realize how little i have in common with my peers simply because im not constantly on tik tok/instagram/facebook 👴

#first i just dont get 80% of the references bc i simply dont engage with them/im not curious enough about them #second new people or those that i know cant go 15 minutes without scrolling on their phone or texting #the few friends who would let me stay at their house would always sit on their phone the entire evening not really engaging with me #or trying to engage with me by showing me something they found on their phone.... girl-#i broke up with my last partner bc they were chronically online and wouldnt go to sleep without at least 1 hour of phone time in bed #im mainly complaining about the bed time phone usage thing bc it used to drive me crazy as an insomniac #and considering how many people do it just makes me completely disinterested in sharing a bedroom with other people #i am old so that must be it tho #i barely use my phone that thing can last 4 days on one battery charge (it's a good battery but still) despite my occasional yt usage #i like in person talking and i just think people lost touch with their social side the last few years :(#and it's hard for me to feel like im having an engaging conversation with someone if they're constantly checking their phone #it makes me feel really lowly of myself it hits my self-esteem hard bc this behavior shows me im too boring to have their attention #even tho they were the one to invite me over/go out with me... bro.#personal #delete later

#its me and many other people at the summer camp i work at #today i took the morning off because ive been ill for a few weeks #i think the first week was a different illness than the one i currently have tho #i assumed it was what we call 'camp crud' because youre bound to get sick when youre around grimy kids #and living in close quarters with others and not getting enough sleep #but yesterday i felt like shit all day to the point of not being able to stand. so today i took the morning off #just to try and recover a bit. but at lunch my program director came in and said im going to the clinic later #and asked me who else ive noticed is sick #hes making a list because apparently a camper has fucking whooping cough. and its lookng like others might too #i told my sibling i might have whooping cough and they said #'seriously?! are you a street urchin from 1600s Europe?'#which is the worst thing anyone has ever said to me lol. im already on the brink of death and they just kicked me over #im desperately hoping its just crud and not whooping cough #because i have the opportunity to work the zip line this weekend for visiting alumni. with the woman i have feelings for #altogether its going to be a great time so im really hoping i can go. but i obv cant if i have whooping cough #anyway im gonna go back to napping bcuz thats all ive been doing today. that and coughing #if you pray then maybe add me into your prayers today. maybe manifest my health. ive been sick for weeks and i want it to be over

book 5 of the year done!!!! im literally one book away from halfway to my goal and the first month of the year isn't even over yet fjsksk i am DEFINITELY going to hit it this year!

#SUUUUPER bummed to say tho that ive made it to the first book of the year i havent enjoyed :/#the worst part is — its the first in a series apparently and like. i WANT to know what happens next #but also i dont CARE enough to want to keep reading the rest of the series yknow?#like. this first book was just SOOOO disjointed #it was ALL exposition #it spent 500 pages giving individual backstories for each of the characters. as in each character l i t e r a l l y told their story #which first of all absolutely BORING way to get to know your characters and second of all NONE od these characters were even likeable!!!#and the worldbuilding was just. weird. it kind of didnt make sense and felt all over the place #and FULLY felt like he was just throwing random sci-fi-y words around to make it sound cooler but like. it wasnt.#and like all these characters are together on this pilgrimage right #but it is NEVER really revealed why/what they plan to do when they get to their end destination/anything like that #and im between each of these character backstories it feels like the same stuff one person is like oh wow what a story lets get some sleep #and then they do and they wake up and they do the tiniest bit of traveling #(which is like. described in the most lackluster barebones way) and then they eat and share another story and rinse and repeat #it was SO boring #it honestly reminded me of the movie the eternals LMAO #all these characters and you get to know a little about them but not enoguh to become invested and none of them are all that interesting #and the purpose of their journey/the purpose of THEM is completely unknown is completely devoid #like it felt like there was no plot #it was. ough not good.#so yeah would NOT recommend hyperion by dan simmons :/#mack reads
