This is so egregious that I can’t let it stand, the large IWTV blog Nalyra-dreaming is liking posts about hating critical race theory and the post she liked states that affirmative action is the only systemically racist system still around while calling fans who are upset that they were called ableist slurs, anti-white and intellectually disabled. When people noticed this last night she attempted to block people who she knew saw the racist posts and remove her likes to hide this. But I saw them several times over, and so did many others.
Tumblr media
Also here's proof that Nalyra actively interacts with this user and on THEIR OWN BLOG and has at least allowed cosmicjoke to stand on the idea that anti-whiteness is real on her own blog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure Nalyra blocked me because I told CosmicJoke to not call people slurs and a reblog of the “antiwhite” meltdown they had with a bad-quality Walter White image. At least proving that she was looking at the post she liked.
No way on black history month did you think we wouldn’t check to see who liked and defended posts with “Affirmative action is the only current form of systemic racism”.
I saw her do this on several occasions over this week and simply asked others to check on people liking racist posts and reblogging my disdain for OP’s usage of slurs and antiblack dog whistles. I never implied that I was talking about her but these posts scared her enough to block me.
This is about the 3rd time I found them secretly liking genuinely racist treatment of fans she dislikes. This is a political stance, affirmative action, the belief in antiwhiteness, and critical race theory are not IWTV topics, this isn’t a whimsical like and scroll, these posts are all political stances that have nearly nothing to do with IWTV outside of what people were being targeted by the slurs in the first place. And the “what people” seem to be black fans that at some point in time she believes deserved to be attacked.
Targeting fans you don’t like doesn’t mean the speech should be endorsed. Anyone with half a pint of morals wouldn't be endorsing an actively hostile person slinging around altright talking points. And I will question why these posts are liked. Call us names all you like, but the second you start using the words of a reactionary racist who calls people disabled… maybe that should give you pause. Yeah?
A large IWTV blog believes in or at least is rubbing shoulders with an antiAffirmative action, slur slinging, reverse racism reactionary so that she can weaponize them against people she disagrees with.
At best Nalyra is okay with commenting, liking, and comforting racists in asks who she wields as weapons against people she disagrees with. At worst, Nalyra genuinely believes in antiwhiteness, antiAffirmative Action, and actively is okay with calling fans she dislikes slurs.
The racism on display here makes me sick. And it’s really telling how this blog feels comfortable patting these people on the back in comment sections.
Say it with your chest, but don’t mislead people who might disagree into following someone who believes this shit.
As respectfully as possible, you make my skin crawl and I’m tired of not stepping to what I really wanted to say. When I make posts about “check who likes what” never in my entire life did I expect to catch an account this large flagrantly using a racist reactionary in such a sad manner.
This is the last straw for me, you can’t keep liking explicitly racist posts and then answering their asks in private and hope fans you strategically discredit and already dislike don’t say anything.
1+1 is 2, liking and a post saying “I will call people I dislike slurs over fictional characters” can only be read so many ways.
I dislike a lot of people, I still wouldn’t defend and like a random fan’s ability to use SLURS and racist tactics on them. I wouldn’t do the same to you as you do to us.
Also some way to hide your attack dog… by having them flash in your own comment section and saying THIS
Tumblr media
Racism is a slur… you guys… and this person is not at all a danger to fandom spaces.

truly a terrible fandom where people feel this emboldened to create lists of users to block which is almost entirely made up of Black and POC fans who have been talking about racism in the fandom or engaging with posts on the topic

Their’s THIEVES in our Midst
PLEASE READ!!!
So I normally don’t do call out posts but with this one I find its of great importance to make one. Especially since I know quite a few people who are involved. So to get to it there is this Facebook Group called Lestat Lovers who have collected any and all images regarding Lestat. I mean fan groups in and of themselves are fine but the problem with this one is they have stolen many pieces of work made by fan artists in the IWTV community. Some of these artists include @verymerrymart @slashpiper @suikamelon6 @moderndaylestat @vkylocifer @nasnyys @takkyb1 just to name a few but, I’m sure there are probably dozens of other images that have been taken without permission or credit for that matter. This is important to call out because calling what it is, it’s THEFT. And the two individuals behind this Lestat Lovers page Ivy Corinne and Kianna Kitter Ramussen
Below I will attach screenshots of some of the work that has been stolen as well as some other info regarding the two individuals behind this group. I don’t know if this post will do much but I think it’s important to make this known amongst the community. Especially as it concerns individuals who seem to have very malicious intent towards anyone that opposes them. This isn’t right or okay and hopefully they will either disband the group or take the work down but even that may be hoping for too much. Lastly, fan artists work VERY hard on their craft and it’s not always easy making art let alone fan art. To disrespect that so much and have no remorse is disgusting behavior and hopefully the two behind this group will get what they deserve.

I love AMC's "Interview with the Vampire" tv show so much that I wanted to show my appreciation by sewing my interpretation of Claudia's New Year's Eve outfit from episode 7. The scene is barely a minute long, with Claudia's costume only partly visible for a few seconds, however, so there wasn't much footage to go on.
Thankfully, though, the costume designer for the show, Carol Cutshall, shares incredible details of the vintage inspirations, costume design, and behind the scenes photos on her Instagram page after the episodes air, and shared details of this outfit along with sketches and behind the scenes photos of the actress, Bailey Bass!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to stress that this is not cosplay - I'm not trying to BE the actress or the character, but sewing my own interpretation of the garments. I try to avoid sewing "fast fashion" as much as I avoid buying it, and I strive to only have clothing in my wardrobe that I will wear again and again.
Tumblr media
Cape: Pattern: self-drafted Fabric: Italian floral silk/polyamide cloqué, ribbon, and metal ball hook all from MacCulloch & Wallis, black satin lining from my stash.
Tumblr media
I based the pattern off of a classic circle skirt, modifying it for the narrower fabric and squeezing in a lined hood as well! I also added a hook at the neck to take the strain off the ribbon, and finally, little wrist loops so that I too can look like a little bat with my arms out!
Tumblr media
Shirt: Pattern: Named Saraste from “Breaking the Pattern” book Fabric: Black textured silk & red silk satin from my stash
I was lucky enough to have the most perfect textured silk already in my stash. I also found a tiny scrap of red silk satin which I added to the inner collar and yoke to give a hint of red to the neck as a nod to my favourite vampires!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used low-key black corozo buttons for the front, but added some drama to the cuffs with metal skull buttons, which I gave red eyes using red nail varnish!
Tumblr media
Trousers: Pattern: BurdaStyle 06/2023 no108 Fabric: Deadstock Japanese burgundy acetate twill from New Craft House
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not normally a fan of wide-legged trousers, or high waists, or side zippers, so I modified the design to be something closer to my own style and preferences. I used the black satin lining from the cape to line the pockets, added a little Claudia cartoon heat set vinyl inside the waistband to serve as the label, and finished the hem with black lace for an invisible hand sewn finish.
Tumblr media
Overall, I'm stupidly happy with how all three pieces turned out and that I will be able to wear them separately as well as together. I poured all my love for this show into sewing these garments (while I was suffering from extreme post-viral fatigue, too), and I'm proud I can put my skills to use in this fandom!

This antiblack campaign the fandom just tried to kick up again (to avoid talking about the real issue with Nalyra) reveals how powerless they're starting to truly feel now.
They don't have many users left to vilify so they're putting people on blocklists who are brand new (I was here 3 days lol) or not even really in the fandom. That looks goofy and desperate but then it keeps going. DMing strangers to say "the truth" isn't about racism and "talk to me if you really want to know about anything." Everyone's reblogging those blocklist posts now and adding large commentary suddenly, when before they often fully sat it out. They're doing this in a group to look like they have larger numbers and are "revealing" there's a "big secret bullying problem"....except nobody believes them. Because there's plenty of accounts who are out here saying this shit straight to their faces and they pretend we all don't exist. All of this group has to manufacture drama solely because they just don't want to talk about harmful shit they actually do.
Neil has to make an antiblack statement she made suddenly be about antisemitism towards her, Nalyra's antiblackness is "actually" fans upset about shipping and "what's REALLY coming" in S2, showmey0urfangs is always happy to show up with her dumb screencaps and villain monologue nobody asked for so she can make her everlasting outrage about popular black fics and "feminized" Louis sound deeper than it is, Virginia suddenly cries about IRL issues and wants to leave the fandom because she wants to distract from the Nalyra receipts, Keybearer accused another black fan of trolling people and getting accounts suspended on twitter in 2023 when a Marius fan eventually confessed to it and his eternal shame for that means now every black fan except him is a bully (despite nobody talking about this ever anymore except him), chicalepidopterare mocks a black fan for blocking her "because I thought we were supposed to talk about racism" and then poorly tries to frame any retaliation against her to look like bullying ("see, they're misogynistic, they're bullying my art, they're mean for disliking these ships!").
To quote Claudia here, "You must think me an idiot." And the big cherry on top is also how none of these losers can stand to hear any mention of race....in the fandom of the show that nonstop talks about race. They're using very basic (and meant in a gentle, loving way) teasing of Jacob as proof that black fans are racist against Jacob too, black fans hate Jacob's white wife. People hate Lestat for being white too (what?). They can write crap meta all day about Lestat letting Louis "rape" him and only white victims (Lestat) being real victims to the evil black and brown "true" manipulators (Claudia, Louis, Armand) but gentle teasing from black fans about Jacob's haircut is the real racism. Okay lol. Care to tell us again why you think Delainey's Claudia looks "less innocent" now then? This 3D chess you think you're playing isn't playing how you think for anyone else.
I also notice that afaik there's not a single black American in this group. Idek if there's many Americans of any kind in the group. It's been a lot of shaming to black Americans specifically though, again from the show that's focused on black Americans....by people who aren't black Americans.
"There's people pretending to be black so it's okay to keep hating this whole group." It's not enough you already nonstop shit on black fans as it is, now you have to try to angle it as if none of this could be authentic in the first place. Vile behavior. For what? Tumblr isn't even a platform that pays you for whatever clout you have, so really what is the point here. In a small ass fandom on top of it. Some of you have pretty grown kids too, this is extra sad. It makes all the jumping through hoops to coddle Lestat's behavior make sense though, if you're the same kind of person yourself. Anyway, maybe you don't actually know everything because race exists in the real world beyond how Anne Rice wrote about it in her useless books! You make books written by a racist white woman your whole personality and guess what your outlook on life is going to be.
It's been really pathetic to especially watch any fans of color move more to this extreme bullying side as time has gone on. It will never pay off to promote white fandom ideals. These accounts you're trying to cuddle up to aren't even that big. The fandom outside of the tags actually has much more popular posts, supporters, and fics...although that's also half of what this all is actually about, fic numbers. Again, these are grown adults obsessing over this. We could have a whole different fandom if this group didn't exist and keep wanting to gatekeep everything and be the only people who get praise about anything.
It's no surprise that people who worship Anne Rice have major ego problems themselves. It's been fucked up to deal with but the good thing now is that big egos have big collapses eventually and that's what we're starting to see happening now. People are sick of you and able to see through your basic ass manipulation techniques. People just want to have a fandom, they're not here to worship fans who want to be dictators. Nobody is here for your fragility, losers.

A REMINDER FOR THE NEW ANNE RICE FANS THAT HAVE JUST MADE IT TO TUMBLR:
it is not your job to police other people in your fandom. full stop. if you see a take you don't agree with? block that person! do not go onto their post and tell them that you think they're wrong/your grasp on canon is better.
it is not your job to police other people in your fandom. if you see a person shipping something you think is reprehensible and you're angry about it? block that person!
it is not your job to police other people in your fandom. do you see someone with a different take on canon than you had? and you want to tell them that they're wrong? don't! block them! i guarantee you, we're all adults: we don't care if you think your opinion is better. your opinion is just that: yours!
it is not your job to police people in your fandom. it is not your job to police people in your fandom. it is not your job to police people in your fandom.

I’m on the west coast, Pacific Time, so I’m basically staying up till 12 am to see what news drops about the impending SAG strike. Basically, everything is going to have to stop at midnight exactly if it happens. . .
IWTV fans and followers? That means in about . . . 15 minutes or so, if they are shooting today, they’re going to have to stop.

what version of sick do you have to be to make a blocklist consisting of (majority black) ppl who are speaking up about the anti-blackness in ur fandom bc you "dont wanna involve urself in fandom drama".
racism is not and never will be "fandom drama". it's a genuine issue that is extremely prevalent in basically all fandom spaces and the idea that some people are denying that this is the case whilst simultaneously blocking people who talk about it is not only paradoxical but just straight up nuts.

IWTV Twitter and the so-called "Fake Black Fans" Invasion
Something that I've been seeing a lot after it gained traction on Max is white fans condescendingly talking down to Black fans, some of whom have been in this fandom longer than they have, and acting as if they don't know what they are talking about because of their critique including a concept or subtext they wish to ignore. I want to repeat that this doesn't happen in the same amounts to white fans who make analyses or memes, it seems to uniquely be Black fans speaking AAVE or with Black pfps (visibly black bc of this) being bombed in the comments for having valid opinions.
I reached about the fifth tweet of white women going onto posts of Black people (particularly older women on Black Twitter) talking about IWTV and saying "You don't know what you're talking about, read the source material/finish the show" or entirely saying that "You don't understand fandom culture". Prompting those Black people to respond curtly that they, in fact, have read the source material, finished the show long before they have, and have been a fandom elder since before they even rolled into town. I witnessed someone doing BABY talk to a 30-year-old Black woman who was talking about episode 5, with "Well you see, it's not my fault you can't read". And when the woman professed anger back, she was the one blocked.
I witnessed this backhanded shit FIVE TIMES over the course of this week. With different white women doing the job of whitesplaining fandom culture and Anne Rice to random Black fans who already know unprompted with a level of passive aggressiveness and annoyance that only comes with doing it repeatedly. I must assure you (white people who are doing this) nobody asked, you can put down your task and stop pretending like you are doing something Sisyphean. You are not legally required to explain and describe IWTV poorly while getting into screaming matches with far more educated Black fans on Twitter and Tumblr.
People are acting as if there's a rising population of Black fans who are "Fake Fans" and must be stopped, lest they start up the freaky discourse. OOHHH NOOOO! Whatever are we to do then???? And therefore it is completely normal and a civic duty to blast Black fans in the comments of everything that they say about the show or the books.
I've been seeing people unironically football tackle reaction posts of the show with paragraphs worth of text that is inflammatory and backhanded. This is even more apparent when the poster is visibly black or uses AAVE. The association is that Black people who use AAVE or memes obviously are uneducated, lack media literacy, and cannot consume content the way that "White" fans do.
It is an attempt to tone police Black fans away from creating new topics of discussion or creating/expanding the fandom space with the growing watcher-base. It always has to happen in their chosen language, on their time, in the places they can reach us and yell some more. They are very discomforted when Black fans have pockets in fandom where they can't be outnumbered and they do in fact control discourse in a way that isn't productive to respectability. (As much as I am a big fan of big words and rambling, that is somewhat what is expected in this fandom as a Black person to be considered "respectable" and I'm not willing to ignore or shy away from that).
This is also hand in hand with my previous thoughts about fans' dog-whistling about media becoming accessible/mainstream and how "Others" will ruin it and outnumber them. I noticed that in the IWTV fandom, it seems like white fans believe that the "Others" is just Black Twitter in general. Not just "Twitter" but specifically Black people who don't fit into their narrow respectability politics.
I hate to tell you all this, but Black fandom culture is still fandom culture, and Black people do in fact read and write. I should not be seeing a pattern of random white fans going into the comments of Black people who mention IWTV and automatically assuming that they have no clue what they're talking about.
Like clockwork, exactly as when the show came out, racist white book fans started up the discourse of "The Black people are going to ruin fandom with their racism discourse and spit on Anne Rice!" and then when that time passed, the show reaches Max, and here they go barking again.... We really need to get a muzzle.

Alan Taylor Talk Takeaways!
youtube
So while we wait for S2 to arrive, a fan named Katie O’Shaugnessy had a chat with Allan Taylor, a director and and Executive producer who worked on S1 of IWTV! During her talks she chats with Taylor about some of the more or less hidden gems and BTS events of S1 production. If you get a chance I’d watch the talk in its entirety because the content of it is very good! Here are just some of my takeaways from the chat she had:
Budget and story reasons were the main points of why we were getting the book 1 story in 2 parts
Taylor states there was some trepidation he had with the changes Rolin Jones made, not to alienate book fans. With scripts written and casting of Jacob and Sam his concerns became less so and he saw how the changes would work.
Also he was aware with the changes would mean they lose people but he believed in this story and the intelligence behind Jones’ decisions.
1 week before the shows start of filming they had no Director of Photography and the people Taylor wanted weren’t available. He called up his contacts and nabbed David Tattershall as a happy accident.
There were two other actors in the running to be Lestat and Louis respectively, but Jacob and Sam’s chemistry won out.
The whole cast and crew lived the “vampire lifestyle” while filming. Taylor liked it because he lived nearby and could walk to work
Sam Reid was approached by the writers with their questions because of his deep knowledge of the lore and story.
Taylor was impressed w/Jacob’s monologue in the confessional because he nailed it many times over multiple takes and was many of the “billion” moments he was taken with Jacob as a performer.
The stunt actor for the scene where Lestat knocks Louis back had to be hospitalized because he hit his head on the marble, (he’s fine now thankfully)
Sam and Jacob had to do a classic Hollywood star regiment of learning multiple skills for the role for their performance to immerse themselves into these characters.
Taylor notes Lestat doesn’t actually slow down time but rather he uses his power to mess with the humans’s perception of it. He says they left this part vague and for fans to interpret how it’s done for themselves.
The church interior used for the confessional/proposal scenes had to be refurbished by Mara and her team.
Also Taylor says it was challenging for them to find a church that would allow them to shoot a “vampire murder scene”
The “proposal” scene was challenging to make believable as it was Lestat going from monstrous killer to romantic leading man.
Taylor also notes the scene between Louis and Lestat as he explains to Louis’ his struggle of being a black man in an oppressive country was a RISK because of it being written by two white men. He said Jacob’s performance is what sold the narrative of it because it could easily have fallen flat.
Rolin’s love of the language used in the book is what helped him pick and choose which quotes to weave into to the script.
The dessert Louis and Daniel eat was completely Taylor’s idea as that moment in the script reminded him of his first love.
Taylor noted Levan is now an in house director and is Lead Director for S2
Taylor remarks the debate between fans wrt Lestat being manipulative versus trying to take away Louis’ pain and grief during the funeral procession is something he encourages.
A last note he leaves on is he was unsure if the relationship between Lestat and Louis would be believable. Especially since he was unsure if it would only speak to relationships between two men or if it would speak to a broader audience, the latter of which he’s glad pans out.
Again, I implore everybody be to go and watch Katie’s talk in full because there is some great nuggets of info we get hear about regarding the production of S1!

The many occupations of fic Lestat de Lioncourt
I thought when I posted The many occupations of fic Louis de Pointe du Lac that there really weren't enough non-rockstar ones to do a similar list for Lestat. But I was wrong! It turned out that he has nearly as many diverse talents in the various fic AUs as Louis!
Again, this is just a list off the top of my head of ones I’ve read and enjoyed, though please do tell me in the comments if I’ve missed any.
Ballet dancer in “Meet me at the barre” by @dancermk Porn Star in “Pretty Boy” by @the-blackstag Instrument importer in “you’re the one, designed for me” Mafia boss in “Saveur de La Maison” by @suikamelon6 CEO in “it’s like a suckerpunch straight to my heart” by @thefairylights Actor in “Practical Ethics” by @prouvaireafterdark Antiques dealer/importer in “good to love” by @brightfelon Coven master in “Under the blood moon” by @revolution-starter Model in “Let the Flesh Instruct the Mind” Priest in “It’s a Sin” Actor in “Wishful Desires” Museum curator in “Reformation” Construction worker in in “Analyst Retentive” by @calipsan
Rock star/musician in (deep breath)... “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same (modern loustat series)” by @thefairylights “Cord of Communion” by @brightfelon “Brooklyn Baby” “Music when the sun goes down” by @mythicaltzu “The Saint” by @revolution-starter “see-through” “The Splendour of Us” by @lesfleursrouges ...and a Music producer in “Your mouth and madness” by @brightfelon
Yes, there are tons and tons more featuring Rockstar Lestat which makes sense since it's canon, but I've left out all the incredible book-based fics that recount the SF pre-concert reunion, for example.
Apologies for inevitably missing off any authors here. Tell me if one's yours and I'll edit to add!
