amari's love shot; a bachelorette challenge
Are you ready to find love in the beautiful seaside town of Tartosa? Amari Walden, successful model and wedding photographer, is looking for her Mr. Right! Known for her appearance on the hit reality show Becoming Mrs. Blackburn 2, Amari is back a year later to take another shot at love. Will you capture her attention and develop a picture perfect romance?
About The Bachelorette
Amari is a 37 year old biracial black-indian woman with two amazing children, a loving family, a successful business, and a beautiful home in Tartosa. It seems like she has it all, but she longs for just one more thing: a loving partner to share her life with! You can read more details about her likes, dislikes, personality, and backstory here. Since BMB2, she's been focused on her family once again; spending time with them and proudly witnessing her oldest daughter, Prisha, graduate high school and leave for college. Her younger daughter, Maria, has come around on the idea of her mother finally finding love... as long as she also approves of the man in question, of course. And so, Amari has committed to trying the reality show thing just one more time. She's looking for a kind, mature man that respects her and her children, loves to laugh, and has a taste for the finer things in life.
Submission Post Guidelines
Sims must identify as men; anything else re: gender doesn't matter
YA-Adult human sims only (sorry my occult loves)
Maxis match hair only, all other cc can be mm or alpha (my style is maxis mix)
1 everyday outfit, 1 formal, and 1 swimwear at minimum; you can dress for every category if you wish, and you can have as many additional outfits as you want after that if they use vanilla/EA clothing (all packs are fine)
No romantic traits allowed, please include one "negative" trait for fun, cc traits by kuttoe are allowed
Please include likes/dislikes (can be randomized if you like), cc preferences from mods are allowed
Skills are allowed (and encouraged!), if you don't want to give them in game, add them in their description and I'll handle the rest
Please give them a backstory/personality (even if it's a short one!)
Must be okay with me changing some cc if needed to blend them into my game (I won't change their facial features, body shape, etc)
Tag me in your submission posts and use the tag #amaribc so I can find them easier! If a day or so goes by and I don't reblog it, feel free to send me the post through my inbox or DMs.
Submission deadline is December 4th, 2023 (will be extended if needed)
Note: I'll be determining some parts of the challenge through actual gameplay, and some through storytelling/whatever I think will be fun. It won't be 100% random/me solely relying on the game. I learned my lesson with that when the game decided none of the men liked my last bachelor whatsoever... lmfao. Please keep this in mind when submitting!

Stars Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni and director Roshan Selthi on the joy of making “A Nice Indian Boy,” joking: “An independent film needs a famous white person to get made.”
When Jonathan Groff met with director Roshan Sethi about a role in the romantic comedy A Nice Indian Boy, he asked Sethi to cast Karan Soni as his love interest. Groff assumed Soni was straight, but he’d seen the Deadpool actor in Sethi’s first movie, 7 Days, and liked his vibe. As it turns out, Groff’s request had already been granted: Not only is Soni gay, but he’s been dating Sethi since 2018. Sethi thought he’d have to work to court Groff—“An independent film needs a famous white person to get made,” he half-jokes—when in actuality Groff was already envisioning the exact film that now exists.
To hear the trio talk about A Nice Indian Boy is to hear tales of kismet and glee (Groff pun intended). “It felt like an emotional throuple,” Soni tells The Daily Beast’s Obsessed, also half-joking. The movie unleashed its charm at the SXSW Film and TV Festival on Tuesday, capping off an intensely personal experience for Sethi and his cast.
A Nice Indian Boy, initially a play by Madhuri Shekar, is built on a meet-cute at a local temple. During prayer, down-on-his-luck doctor Naveen (Soni) catches the eye of a dreamy photographer named Jay (Groff), and soon his wish for romance has been fulfilled. Jay was adopted by an Indian family and immersed himself in their culture, but he’s far more comfortable in his sexuality than Naveen, who avoids introducing Jay to his folks (Zarna Garg and Harish Patel) until they’re engaged. It’s Meet the Parents: Hindu Edition. But not only is he bringing a boy home—he’s bringing a white boy home. With that, A Nice Indian Boy goes from a romantic comedy to a comedy of manners to a spectacular wedding comedy.
Together, Sethi and Soni wrote 7 Days, a straight rom-com co-starring Geraldine Viswanathan. That was a warm-up act for A Nice Indian Boy, a movie that begins with one dazzling Indian wedding—that of Naveen’s sister (Sunita Mani)—and ends with another. When producers sent Sethi the film script adapted by Eric Randall (In the Dark), it was like clouds parting. Here was something he and Soni had contended with their entire lives: being gay in a culture that loves elaborate marriage rituals as long as they don’t involve two men or two women. If 7 Days was like their senior year of high school, Soni says, A Nice Indian Boy was their freshman year of college, full of new liberation.
“Halfway through making the movie, Roshan was like, ‘This might be the most personal thing we ever do, so we should really soak it all in,’” recalls Soni, whose other credits include Miracle Workers and Always Be My Baby. “This checks so many boxes of our experience, and to do it together is so rare. I remember him saying, ‘We should experience and feel everything,’ which is also Jonathan rubbing off on us, because that’s all this man does. He is in the moment. He’s never on his phone in between takes. He loves to talk about things. We want to be more like Jonathan.”
Groff says he picked up the no-phones-on-set thing from Keanu Reeves, who would strike up conversation between takes while they were shooting The Matrix Resurrections. Jay is the more sanguine character in the film, so Groff’s grounding presence was life imitating art. But even if the Broadway veteran helped to secure the project’s financing, he wasn’t the biggest celebrity around. That honor belonged to Garg, the comedian, podcaster, and TikTok superstar who recently opened for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s tour. During the Vancouver production, locals stopped their cars in traffic to catch her attention. “It was harder for her to go places than anyone,” Sethi laughs.
Not everything was uplifting, though. Sethi reached out to various Hindu religious leaders to find a consultant for the wedding scenes. Not a single Vancouver priest—including one billed as “the most liberal pundit in Canada,” who apparently sent Sethi a homophobic slur in response—agreed to participate. However crushing, such reactions underscored the importance of a film that’s very much about internal and external acceptance. Sethi and Soni eventually enlisted a priest based in Malibu who FaceTimed them from his stylish convertible.
For Groff, aspects of A Nice Indian Boy were like an analog to Looking, the swoony HBO series that also featured amorous walk-and-talks. “I could kind of be transparently myself while playing the character and not feel inhibited," he says. "Karan talked about that, too. When we get to do something gay, there’s this feeling of extra freedom. When it’s a gay story, it feels ultra-personal.”
Independent filmmakers like Sethi are reinvigorating a genre that has long attracted gay audiences without featuring them in principal roles.
“Even though there were financial and logistical obstacles that kept cropping up, it was an experience of pure joy,” Sethi says. “Halfway through, I was like, ’Maybe it will never be this good again.’ We did it with people we love about a subject we love.”

New Releases
Sometimes in dark moments books can allow us to escape to other worlds, other times and lift our spirits. Here are three new releases this week to help give us comfort during this dark time.
When We Become Ours: A YA Adoptee Anthology edited by Shannon Gibney & Nicole Chung Harper Teen
Two teens take the stage and find their voice. . . A girl learns about her heritage and begins to find her community. . . A sister is haunted by the ghosts of loved ones lost. . . There is no universal adoption experience, and no two adoptees have the same story. This anthology for teens edited by Shannon Gibney and Nicole Chung contains a wide range of powerful, poignant, and evocative stories in a variety of genres. These tales from fifteen bestselling, acclaimed, and emerging adoptee authors genuinely and authentically reflect the complexity, breadth, and depth of adoptee experiences. This groundbreaking collection centers what it’s like growing up as an adoptee. These are stories by adoptees, for adoptees, reclaiming their own narrative.
The Search for Us by Susan Azim Boyer Wednesday Books
Two half-siblings who have never met embark on a search together for the Iranian immigrant and U.S. Army veteran father they never knew. Samira Murphy will do anything to keep her fractured family from falling apart, including caring for her widowed grandmother and getting her older brother into recovery for alcohol addiction. With attendance at her dream college on the line, she takes a long shot DNA test to find the support she so desperately needs from a father she hasn’t seen since she was a baby. Henry Owen is torn between his well-meaning but unreliable bio-mom and his overly strict aunt and uncle, who stepped in to raise him but don’t seem to see him for who he is. Looking to forge a stronger connection to his own identity, he takes a DNA test to find the one person who might love him for exactly who he is―the biological father he never knew. Instead of a DNA match with their father, Samira and Henry are matched with each other. They begin to search for their father together and slowly unravel the difficult truth of their shared past, forming a connection that only siblings can have and recovering precious parts of their past that have been lost. Brimming with emotional resonance, Susan Azim Boyer’s The Search for Us beautifully renders what it means to find your place in the world through the deep and abiding power of family.
Sleepless in Dubai by Sajni Patel Amulet Books
In this hate-to-love teen rom-com from the author of My Sister’s Big Fat Indian Wedding, Nikki, an aspiring photographer, accompanies her family on a trip to Dubai to celebrate the five days of Diwali in style. It should be the trip of a lifetime, if Yash, the boy next door–with whom Nikki has a rocky history–weren’t on board. Oblivious to the tension, Nikki’s matchmaking family encourages Nikki to get better acquainted with Yash. Turns out a lot can change on a 12-hour flight beyond just continents. But can betrayals and conflicting ambitions be set aside long enough for the two teens to discover the true meaning of the Festival of Lights?

Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was demure and elegant in a flowing gown – he looked dapper and debonair in a tailored navy suit.
So pity the poor bride and groom whose lavish Caribbean nuptials were overshadowed by such glamorous guests.
Then again, if you will invite Prince Harry and his actress girlfriend Meghan Markle to your wedding, what do you expect?
All eyes were on the young lovers as the prince attended the wedding of friend Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip at the weekend in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Not having seen each other for a fortnight, Harry, 32, and 35-year-old Meghan used the trip as an excuse for a romantic reunion – and their affectionate behaviour set tongues wagging that it might not be long before they, too, are walking up the aisle.
For Meghan, the surroundings are not entirely unfamiliar.
In 2011, she married her first husband – film producer Trevor Engleson – at a resort just 60 miles along the coast. So, is she feeling the love second time around?
We reveal exactly what the young couple got up to on their romantic West Indian weekend...
He flies in economy, while she takes a private jet
Harry arrived in Jamaica on Wednesday to join the groom’s party ahead of the big day – he was one of 14 ushers.
The royals don’t use private planes for personal engagements, so he took a Virgin Atlantic flight from Gatwick to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
The prince did splash out on a premium economy seat, costing upwards of £2,000 return.
Meghan flew in the following day from Toronto, where she’s filming US legal drama Suits, in a private jet that belongs to a friend.
Ever the gentleman, Harry picked her up from the airport, greeting her with a kiss before they drove back to the hotel together.
The luxury resort where JFK stayed
With 110 acres of lush tropical gardens, suites designed by Ralph Lauren and its own private bay, the wedding reception venue is the perfect backdrop for royal romance.
The Round Hill Resort was built in the 1950s as a series of luxurious cottages for rich and famous visitors. Guests have included JFK and Jackie Kennedy, who spent their honeymoon here.
Grace Kelly, Fred Astaire, Clark Gable, Sir Paul McCartney, and Emma Watson have also stayed.
Tumblr media
A hotel worker revealed that Meghan and Harry stayed in a £5,000-a-night premium luxury villa, the resort’s most exclusive accommodation away from prying eyes, which comes with its own housekeeper, two pools and a games room with a bar and pool table.
Ever watchful of their safety, security guards were stationed in rooms nearby.
Guests have breakfast served on their balcony, and options include Jamaican delicacies such as ackee (a fruit like a lychee), saltfish with fried dumplings and callaloo (a leafy green vegetable).
It’s quite a change from Meghan’s first trip to the island during her low-key wedding in 2011.
She and her husband-to-be stayed at the four-star Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, where they indulged in drinking games and wheelbarrow races before saying their vows.
Tumblr media
The (other) very happy couple
It takes a brave bride to invite glamorous, leggy Meghan to your wedding. But flame-haired Lara Hughes-Young didn’t seem bothered about being outshone.
Lara, 30, a software developer at global technology company ThoughtWorks, knows Harry through her new husband ‘Skippy’, who went to Eton with the prince.
She’s the granddaughter of late Conservative MP Michael Hughes-Young.
Her father holds the title Lord St Helens – making her official title the Honourable Lara Inskip.
She is said to have been ‘singing Meghan’s praises’ since meeting her last year.
Tumblr media
They may have been the focus of attention on the day, but Megan and Harry were far from the only notable guests at the wedding.
Harry’s aunt Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was on the list, accompanied, insiders say, by her daughter Eugenie.
After the ceremony, a smiling Fergie, wearing a black minidress with a jewelled neck, was seen posing for photographs with Pastor Conrad Thomas, who officiated the ceremony.
Archie Soames, one of the ushers, is the great-grandson of Winston Churchill. Maid of honour Alice St Clair Erskine is an actress who portrayed the Duchess of Cambridge in the 2011 American TV show William and Catherine: A Royal Romance.
Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt is rumoured to have popped in for the party.
Trying not to upstage the bride
For the ceremony, Meghan chose a £1,200 floral print maxi dress by Canadian designer Erdem.
Harry opted for a bespoke navy suit, believed to be from his favourite Savile Row tailor Gieves & Hawkes, and teamed with a yellow rose.
Meghan accessorised her elegant attire with a nude clutch bag and a pair of £249 gold-rimmed sunglasses by Dior to shield her eyes from the hot Jamaican sun.
The bride did her best to stay in the spotlight in a breathtakingly simple white satin gown with a plunging neckline and full, flowing skirt – a direct contrast to Meghan’s high-necked style.
Tumblr media
Meghan's tender touch for her prince
Meghan placed a protective arm on Harry’s back as she steered him out of the church and guests say the pair were very tactile throughout the reception as she was introduced to his old friends.
At one point they were seen deep in conversation, as a jacketless Harry drank a beer and Meghan an Aperol spritz cocktail as she continued to rub his back.
Minutes later, she moved even closer, gazing into his eyes and putting her arms around his neck.
‘They are both head over heels and don’t care who sees it,’ said an onlooker.

Lesbian influencers call of wedding after cheating scandal
Tumblr media
Popular lesbian influencers Anjali Chakra and Sufi Malik have announced their split just weeks before their planned wedding.
In coordinated Instagram posts on Monday, Anjali and Sufi told fans that they had made the decision to split after Sufi cheated.
“I made an unrecognisable mistake of betrayal by cheating on her a few weeks before our wedding,” Sufi wrote.
“I’ve hurt her tremendously, beyond my own understanding. I’m owning up to my mistake and will continue to do so. I understand the gravity of the situation and can only ask relentlessly for forgiveness, from Anjali and Allah.”

In her own post, Anjali also acknowledged the infidelity.
“What we have shared has been so full of love and nothing short of magical — I will choose to remember it this way.”
“Since the beginning, your outpouring of love and support has played such a special part in our journey and we will continue to carry that love with us moving forward.
“This may come as a shock but our journey is now shifting. We have decided to call off our wedding and end our relationship due to infidelity committed by Sufi.”
However, she also write that she wishes for “absolutely no negativity to be shown towards Sufi,” and for her followers to “respect this difficult decision.”

Who are Sufi Malik and Anjali Chakra?
The couple first gained a following back in 2019, after a photoshoot for a South Asian designer went viral.
A tweet that photographer Sarowar shared of the shoot received over 42,000 likes, with people celebrating the photos’ depiction of a queer, South Asian, interfaith love story — Sufi is Muslim and Pakistani, and Anjali is Hindu and Indian.

The couple went viral again in the same year after sharing their one-year anniversary photo shoot.
“When we first started dating I used to let go of Sufi’s hand a few blocks before my office when she walked me to work because I was scared people would find out I was queer,” Anjali wrote.
“Fast forward a year and we spent our anniversary at my cousin’s wedding, where she met 50 members of my extended family who loved her!
“Here’s to many more years of growing in our love, together.”

A Guide to Waste Reduction in Indian Weddings
Tumblr media
In a world that's becoming increasingly conscious of environmental impact, it's time for weddings to take on a green hue. indian wedding, known for their grandeur, can also be a source of significant waste. However, with a few thoughtful choices, you can turn your wedding into an eco-friendly celebration. Here's a guide to waste reduction in Indian weddings.
Eco-friendly Invitations
Embrace the digital age and send out e-invitations instead of traditional paper ones. Not only does this reduce paper waste, but it also makes it easier for guests to RSVP and stay connected throughout the wedding festivities.

 Rent Your Outfits:
Consider renting your wedding attire instead of buying it. This not only saves money but also reduces the demand for new clothing production. Many platforms offer the opportunity to rent wedding dresses, allowing you to express your style without contributing to the environmental impact of textile waste.
Tumblr media
Wedding Decor:
Opt for local and seasonal flowers for your wedding decor. Not only do they add a touch of freshness, but choosing local blooms also minimizes the carbon footprint associated with transporting flowers over long distances. Consider repurposing decor items or donating them to reduce waste further.

Eco-friendly Dining:
Say goodbye to single-use plastic cutlery and plates. Instead, opt for reusable or biodegradable alternatives. This small change can significantly reduce the environmental impact of your wedding, and your guests will appreciate the effort to make the celebration more sustainable.

Minimize Food Waste:
Plan your wedding menu carefully to minimize food waste. Work closely with your caterer to estimate portion sizes accurately. Consider donating excess food to local charities or food banks. It not only helps the community but also ensures that the surplus food doesn't end up in landfills.

Digital Photo Albums :
Choose a wedding photographer who offers digital photo albums instead of traditional printed ones. This not only reduces the use of paper and ink but also makes it easier for you to share and cherish your memories in a digital format.

Spread the Green Message:
Share your waste reduction efforts with your guests. Include a small note in your wedding program or have a display showcasing your eco-friendly choices. By doing so, you not only inspire others to adopt similar practices but also contribute to raising awareness about the importance of sustainability in celebrations.

what are fun beatles facts you’ve put in your fics
Hi anon!! Sorry for forgetting you!!! TBH maybe they're not as fun or not as much facts as I may have made them seem but here are a few from ILTY:
I point out in chapter 2 that George and John bought matching Gibson guitars (in 1962, following them earning the contract with EMI iirc; I didn't specify the date in the fic though)
Paul talks about when he uses the Höfner vs when he uses the Rickenbacker bass, saying the Höfner is good for live sounds because it's lighter. He says something like that in Get Back, I believe!
In chapter 3 when Cyn and John are looking through a scrapbook there aren't any wedding photos because there really weren't any! No photographer was present :(
I also reference this real letter John wrote to Cyn in chapter 3
also point out in that chapter that while John basically immediately married Cyn upon learning he had gotten her pregnant, Paul stalled with Dot up until her miscarriage and then broke off their engagement.
in chapter 4 I describe this weird trailer thing, which John really had in his garden though I've now learned he actually only acquired it a year later in 1967 so
This isn't historical but the bit in chapter 4 where I describe how John plays I Feel Fine is how you actually play the song lol. I didn't detail it much cause it's not very interesting, but I watched a tutorial for it and everything. I also did some rudimentary sitar + Indian classical music research for the relevant part in chapter 10. It's not directly mentioned in the text but I did my best to make sure I wasn't saying something outright wrong about the instruments basic function.
In chapter 5 I point out that John has a Stu painting in his house, which he really did IIRC
The idea that John may have recorded himself reading from Timothy Leary's book Book of the Dead and played it back while dropping acid it isn't one I made up but I believe it's from Goldman so. Grain of salt fun fact. (mentioned in chapters 4, 6 and 8)
From chapter 7: "They bloody invented automatic double-trackin’ just so Johnny could be here less." ATD was indeed developed by engineers at EMI studios because John found double tracking his vocals extremely annoying lmao.
there's some description in chapter 7 of stuff the Beach Boys and Beatles stole from each other that's to my knowledge accurate. also the song playing on the radio was in the charts the week the chapter takes place during, which I pointed out in the author's notes (I generally have kept track of the dates in my story)
Paul beginning to write Here, There and Everywhere, specifically the intro, right after listening to Pet Sounds is based on him saying the intro is inspired by God Only Knows (he starts writing the intro just after playing GOK in the story). He recalls writing the song at John's house, an he completes it in chapter 8, also at Kenwood, while waiting for John (this time simply to come down stairs rather than wake up) — this is less a fun fact but more my fun adaptation of true events.
I double checked this like three times when I wrote the chapter, but IIRC it's totally accurate that the band recorded brass for the first time one day after the Pet Sounds listening party (chapter 8)
I reference the horrible experience the band really had in February 64 at the English embassy in Washington DC in chapter 8, though the specific anecdote Paul recalls from that evening is entirely made up by me.
this is pretty well-known, but Isn't It A Pity was likely a Revolver-reject, which is why it's briefly considered for the album in chapter 8, given the circumstances
This is my own conjecture but I 100% believe that Day Tripper is about Paul and I made that canon at the end of chapter 8 lol.
This isn't exactly a fact but the questions asked in the Munich press conference in chapter 9 are for the most part similar to real questions they were asked. Including the weird one about participating in the Munich Olympics lmaooooo
Again more of an adaptation than a straight-up fact but John and Paul did visit the Grosse Freiheit when they were in Hamburg for that tour!
Also the geography described in Hamburg should be right, I used a map lol.
Paul DID change the I'll Follow The Sun lyrics!!!! Go listen to the quarrymen bootleg it's one of my favourite things I've used, that it used to be "Don't leave me alone"
Also they did get to play around with some Japanese instruments while in Tokyo and they're some of the softest pics of the band :) I did simplify the events a bit though
George was very worried about being arrested for drug possession when the band got separated from their luggage in Manila.
George did ask Ravi Shankar to take him on as his student in summer 66 but I don't know when exactly.
I think that's a fair amount lol hope these lived up to your expectations :(

Everything you should know about the HD Wedding Makeup
Tumblr media
Every Indian bride's dream is to achieve the perfect bridal look. Without going overboard with your makeup palette, you want to achieve a true Lehenga makeup balance. HD Makeup is perfect for an Indian bride. It gets the best flawless and picture-perfect look. This makeup can only be done with the presence of experienced makeup artists. So you need to choose the right makeup artist, if you don't know the Best Makeup Artist then just contact us. Brioso is a skilled Makeup Artist who knows all the dos and don'ts of HD Makeup.
Here, we see everything about HD makeup and explain why you should choose this makeup method.
What is HD Bridal Makeup?
High-definition makeup, also known as HD makeup, helps draw attention to the best aspects of the face while hiding flaws with texture and volume that can be captured by the contemporary HD camera lenses used by wedding photographers and videographers.
The days of hiding blemishes, wrinkles, and traces of makeup on high-definition cameras are long gone. They are showcasing HD professional makeup items that give the bride a simple, flawless, natural appearance.
The Difference between Ordinary Makeup and HD Makeup?
The only difference is the cosmetic used. The product used in applying HD makeup is high quality. The product has a lighter texture and provides denser coverage. HD makeup gives the bride the perfect look. Such makeup does not look unnatural and fake.
Why Go for HD Makeup?
HD Bridal Makeup contains quartz, silicon, mica, and crystals that scatter light and create the illusion of even skin. This makeup technique looks transparent yet hides skin imperfections such as uneven texture, blemishes, pores, scars, etc. The products blend perfectly with the skin, giving it a flawless even tone and appearance.
What Tools and Products are for HD Makeup?
HD makeup is done with brushes and blending sponges, which are designed to diffuse light on the skin, which in turn gives it a smooth and soft look. The key here is the perfect blending of the products to achieve a natural, even texture and flawless-looking skin.
Consider using a foundation or concealer made for shooting in HD. This is often where you see the biggest impact. Plus, focusing on skin tone means you can also get by with less makeup. My personal favorite is the Makeup Forever HD foundation.
Benefits of HD Wedding Makeup
1. HD cosmetics include matting agents that prevent unwanted shine!
Yes, this makeup technique does wonders for oily skin.
2. No special equipment is required!
With handy makeup brushes and blenders, you can easily touch up your makeup yourself.
3. Hide imperfections
HD makeup hides any signs of acne or facial imperfections, especially on an HD camera.
4. More "natural" makeup
Unlike other makeup techniques, HD bridal makeup helps achieve a more natural effect.

Australia Wants To Attract the World’s Best? Make It Easier to Migrate
A few years ago, an Indian photographer friend living in Malaysia was flying to Fiji on assignment. He opted to fly through Sydney with a five-hour stopover, enough time, he reckoned, to get the train in to Circular Quay and drink a cold beer at the Opera Bar while marvelling at the Harbour Bridge.
But he never even got close, as he was prevented from even boarding his flight. He found out, at the airport desk in Kuala Lumpur, that his Indian passport meant he needed a visa simply to transit through Sydney. Forget the Quay, he needed the visa just to disembark the plane at the airport.
The experience didn’t just set his project back a few days and disadvantage the rest of the crew on the assignment, it left a seriously sour taste in the mouth of exactly the kind of globally well-connected professional that Australia should be trying to woo. When I asked other friends, I found it a common experience. Another Indian friend had been barred from boarding the flight to go to her own wedding in Auckland.
As far as case studies go, I admit that these ones aren’t particularly egregious, not when compared to some of the more difficult issues faced by those trying to enter Australia to work and set up their lives anew. But it’s an experience that shines a blinding light on a couple of things.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the strict border controls that came with it, Australia right now has more jobs than it has a ready pool of skilled and available people to fill them. The government has been working to clear the visa backlog – down to 775,000, down from a million, it says, and this, along with the expansion of the Pacific worker scheme, shows a commitment to resolving the issue.
So why is it still so hard to get permanency?
Visa seekers speak of waiting five or six years, sometimes longer, to gain permanent residency in Australia. This makes it hard to live a normal life. I have a permanent visa-seeking friend right now trying to get to the United States for a business trip: the US wants a commitment from Australia that she will return here, but Australia is yet to grant her the right to stay. It’s properly a scene from Utopia.
People also speak of extremely expensive, long-winded and fraught quests to gain parent visas. Home Affairs says the waiting time for the parent visa is currently at least 74 months; and a migration agency estimated the total cost at more than $43,000. I’ve heard anecdotally of some spending closer to $100,000.

Australia has, at least since the Tampa standoff in 2001, used its visa program to signal its values. Business visas take precedence, signalling Australia’s dominant value of economic growth. Family visas have always – at least since I started taking notice, when I started at my first reporting job at SBS – been a category that a sceptical public (and consequently, government) has considered to be an unnecessary burden, a fast-track to overstaying and Medicare fraud. Australia requires passport holders from undesirable countries to submit to expensive and sometimes fraught visitor visa processes, even simply for an airport stopover.

Securing a personal loan has become increasingly popular in India due to its ease of access and versatility. A personal loan of ₹5 lakhs can be a significant amount to cover various needs, from medical emergencies and wedding expenses to home renovations and debt consolidation. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about obtaining a ₹5 lakh personal loan in India, including eligibility criteria, application process, benefits, and tips to ensure a smooth loan approval.
Understanding Personal Loans
A personal loan is an unsecured loan, meaning it does not require collateral or security. Banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) offer personal loans based on the borrower’s creditworthiness. Unlike home or car loans, personal loans can be used for a variety of purposes, making them a flexible financial tool.
Eligibility Criteria for a ₹5 Lakh Personal Loan
Eligibility criteria may vary slightly between lenders, but the following are the general requirements:
Age: Most lenders require applicants to be between 21 and 60 years old.
Income: A stable income is crucial. Salaried individuals typically need a minimum monthly income of ₹20,000-₹25,000, while self-employed individuals need to show consistent earnings.
Employment: Salaried individuals should have at least one year of work experience, with six months in the current organization. Self-employed individuals should have been in business for at least two years.
Credit Score: A good credit score (typically 700 and above) is essential as it indicates the borrower’s creditworthiness.
Nationality: Applicants must be Indian residents.
Documentation Required
Lenders require specific documents to process a personal loan application. The essential documents include:
Proof of Identity: Aadhar card, PAN card, passport, voter ID, or driving license.
Proof of Address: Utility bills, rental agreement, passport, or voter ID.
Proof of Income: Salary slips for the last three months, bank statements for the last six months, and Form 16 for salaried individuals. Self-employed individuals need to provide income tax returns, bank statements, and financial statements.
Employment Proof: Offer letter or appointment letter for salaried individuals.
Photographs: Passport-size photographs.
Application Process
Applying for a personal loan of 5 lakhs, is straightforward. Here are the steps:
Research and Compare: Research different lenders and compare interest rates, processing fees, and other charges.
Check Eligibility: Use online eligibility calculators available on lender websites to check your eligibility.
Gather Documents: Ensure you have all the required documents ready.
Apply Online or Offline: You can apply online through the lender’s website or visit the branch.
Submit Documents: Upload or submit the necessary documents.
Verification: The lender will verify the documents and check your credit score and history.
Approval and Disbursal: Once verified, the lender will approve your loan, and the amount will be disbursed to your bank account.
Interest Rates and Charges
Interest rates for personal loans vary between lenders and can range from 10% to 24% per annum. Factors influencing interest rates include the applicant’s credit score, income, employment history, and the lender’s policies. Additionally, there may be processing fees (1-3% of the loan amount), prepayment charges, and late payment penalties.
Benefits of a ₹5 Lakh Personal Loan
No Collateral Required: As an unsecured loan, you don’t need to pledge any assets.
Flexible Usage: Use the loan amount for any personal need, such as medical emergencies, weddings, or home renovations.
Quick Processing: Loan approval and disbursal are usually fast, often within 24-48 hours.
Easy Documentation: Minimal documentation is required compared to other loan types.
Flexible Tenure: Repayment tenure ranges from 1 to 5 years, allowing you to choose a comfortable EMI amount.
Tips for Quick Approval
Maintain a Good Credit Score: Regularly check and maintain a high credit score by paying your bills and existing loans on time.
Reduce Existing Debt: Lower your existing debt to income ratio by clearing other loans or credit card dues.
Choose the Right Lender: Select a lender whose eligibility criteria you meet comfortably.
Accurate Documentation: Ensure all submitted documents are accurate and up to date.
Show Stable Income: Demonstrate a stable income source and consistent employment history.
Repayment and EMIs
Repayment of a personal loan is done through Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs). EMI is calculated based on the loan amount, interest rate, and tenure. Using an EMI calculator, available on most lender websites, you can determine the monthly installment and plan your finances accordingly.
For instance, if you take a ₹5 lakh loan at an interest rate of 12% per annum for a tenure of 3 years, the EMI would be approximately ₹16,607. It’s essential to ensure timely EMI payments to maintain a good credit score and avoid penalties.
Things to Consider Before Taking a Personal Loan
Assess Your Needs: Borrow only the amount you need to avoid unnecessary debt.
Understand the Costs: Be aware of all costs, including interest rates, processing fees, and any other charges.
Repayment Capacity: Ensure you can comfortably repay the loan without straining your finances.
Loan Tenure: Choose a tenure that offers manageable EMIs without extending the debt period unnecessarily.
Compare Offers: Don’t settle for the first offer; compare multiple lenders to get the best terms.
Conclusion
A 5 lakh personal loan can be a valuable financial resource to meet various personal needs. By understanding the eligibility criteria, application process, interest rates, and repayment terms, you can make informed decisions and choose the best loan offer. Remember to maintain a good credit score, reduce existing debts, and carefully plan your finances to ensure a smooth loan approval and repayment process.
Securing a personal loan is a significant financial decision. By following the guidelines and tips provided in this guide, you can confidently navigate the process and make the most of the financial opportunities available to you.
