There’s a Starman waiting in the sky ... or is there?
"There's a Starman waiting in the sky ... or is there?", a review of Uga Carlini's documentary 'Beyond the Light Barrier', at the Hilton Arts Festival in August.
KOOK or mother of an alien baby? Elizabeth Klarer is the central focus to Uga Carlini’s documentary Beyond the Light Barrier , which features at this year’s Hilton Arts Festival. SHE WAS ONE of the South African media’s darlings from the 1950s with her tales of aliens, UFOs and her own abduction and seduction, pregnancy and childbearing. It was a story too good to be true for news editors,…

A collaborative immersive virtual and reality experience... Slowly I followed the sounds of breathing that I could perceive in the distance. Carefully listening to the frequency of each breath, it seemed as though I drew closer. So close, they escaped my own chest. When a tremor suddenly moved through me; virtually shook me. I wanted to hold on, yet my hand could not. And then they were back: sounds of breathing. Deep and immersive. All was gently led by an unfathomable flow. An ancient rhythm of arising and ceasing. ... Our collaboration is representing a confluence of human and nature. The dissolution of the physical borders will be conveyed and the artwork is guided by the intention of connection. We wish the viewer to slow down, turn inward and have the perception of Self as form be deeply affected. Our installation is a gentle reminder of our interconnection beyond a permanence of form. AD PACEM - projection mapping mural - Faith XLVII & Inka Kendzia from FAITH XLVII on Vimeo.
Internationally renowned South African artists Inka Kendzia and Faith XLVII presented their new collaborative projection-mapped mural in Cincinnati during the Blink Light Festival.
Faith’s mural, thematically based on Eirene, the Greek goddess of peace, highlights the importance of actively working towards a society that functions on open communication and inclusion.
The intricate projection is carefully constructed to interact within the artwork, layering a narrative alluding to borders, immigration, freedom of movement, peaceful protest, government oppression and the strength of the human spirit in overcoming these challenges.
The symbolic use of the flag accentuates the power of non-violent protest and negotiation in the pursuit of peace. The project invites the viewer to connect with their humanity and to see themselves as a part of the whole; to feel an interconnectedness between humans and nature, and the fluidity of geographic understandings of place and home.
