A new discovery has been made in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary!
Researchers from NOAA, the state of Michigan, and Ocean Exploration Trust have discovered an intact shipwreck resting hundreds of feet below the surface of Lake Huron. The shipwreck has been identified as the sailing ship Ironton. Magnificently preserved by the cold freshwater of the Great Lakes for over a century, the 191-foot Ironton rests upright with its three masts still standing.

Fresh Paint Late in Life
flickr
Fresh Paint Late in Life by James Belmont Via Flickr: Rio Grande caboose 01489, rests on the Uptown Transfer at Ironton, Utah on June 20, 1984. The car was built by the D&RGW in 1959, and repainted at Burnham in Denver, Colorado in May 1984. I'm speculating a little, but suspect this may have been the last D&RGW caboose repainted. By 1985, the Rio Grande retired much of its fleet of way cars when "cabooseless" train operations began.

Wreck of the schooner barge Ironton, 1894, Lake Huron, off the Michigan coast
In late September 1894, the schooner barge Ironton was traveling light from Cleveland to Marquette and under tow by the steamer Kershaw along with schooner barge Moonlight. The wooden freighter Ohio was steaming from Duluth to Ogdensburg, New York loaded with a cargo of grain. The three ships were heading north when they encountered Ohio in rough conditions, 10 miles north of Presque Isle. It was during this critical moment, with the vessels about to pass each other, that Ironton's towline parted.
The vessel broke free, veered off course and collided with Ohio. Both sank in half an hour. Sixteen crewmembers of Ohio got into lifeboats and were later picked up by schooner Moonlight. Another passing vessel, the steamer Hebard, picked up two of Ironton's crew. Lake Huron claimed Captain Girard and four other Ironton crew: Mate Ed Bostwick, Sailor John Pope, and two unidentified sailors.

Today a white coworker said that “all Asians and Mexicans look alike”. I pointed out saying that is racist and she said that “she’s just stereotyping. It’s like saying there’s nerds and jocks and rednecks when you’re in high school”. Then had another white coworker asked if it was really racist to say that.

The bowsprit of the schooner- barque Ironton is seen in Lake Huron off Michigan's east coast, 1894
In 1894, it saw the great steamer Charles J. Kershaw, towing the Ironton on that fateful September night, collide with a grain tug and be forced to cut ties to avoid entanglement and another collision, leaving the Ironton and her seven crew members alone and adrift in the cold and dark.
When it became clear the ship would sink, the Ironton's captain and six sailors climbed aboard a lifeboat. But in their panic, no one thought to detach the lifeboat from the ship, and the crew members were pulled down alongside the ship. Only a few survived this disaster.

Ironton cops violated the public’s trust and abused their power
Ironton police officers William Borders and Bryan Jordan violated the public’s trust and abused their power. They must both be fired immediately and prosecuted to the full extent under the law for staging a crime scene. Any law-enforcement Official, who breaks the law, and tries to set someone up to get them locked up, must be held accountable just like the guy the cops were targeting. I don’t…
