Astore Valley

Astore is one of the six districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The district contains the Astore Valley and is bordered on the west by Diamer District (from which it was separated in 2004), on the north by Gilgit District, on the east by Skardu District and on the south by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Neelum District of Azad Kashmir. According to the Pakistan census in 1998, the population was 71,666.

Astore valley, bordering on the eastern side of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), is approximately 120 km long and 5,092 km² in size. The entrance to the valley is about 60 km southeast of Gilgit with four side valleys. The valley has more than 100 villages with a total population of 71,666 (Census 1998. Some of them are Chilm, Bubin, Gorikot, Eid Ghah, Fina, Bulen, Chongra and Tari Shing. Chilm is the most beautiful village among all the villages of Astore, because it is the starting point of Deosai, the second highest plane in the world The majority of people who are self-sufficient Agriculture and animal husbandry is the main source of livelihood, supplemented by seasonal work in the country's down districts. History

GhÄzÄ «Mukhpun, a Persian adventurer, is said to have married a princess of the ruling Skardu family. The four sons born from this union were respectively RÄÂÂS of SkÄrdu, Astor, Rondu and Kharmang, and from them the families descend from the current leaders of those places. Afzal, Guada, Chilma were sons of Astor respectively. They lived in Juttay, Ganda gam (Arzal abad), Gudai (Guada abad), Chilm (Chilma abad) respectively. The independence of Astor ceased with the conquest by Dogra.

Climate

Astore valley has a temperate climate during the summer. In winter it snows up to 15 cm in the main valleys and up to 60 cm in the mountains. In the Mirmalik valley it snows up to 1.8 meters in February.

languages

The main language in the valley is Shina (also known as Tshina). Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, is the second most used language. Another dialect of Shina is spoken in the region. Since Astore has a history of modest tourist traffic in the summer months, local guides and police in Tarashing or Astore can speak some English.

Rama Lake

Rama is home to a number of famous species such as: ibex, musk deer, snow leopard and rock die. The area is also considered an abundance of medicinal plants. This valley offers a number of tourist attractions, including: sight-seeing, hiking, wildlife, forests, glaciers and above all the beautiful Rama Lake that is spectacular and striking. Rama valley with lush green meadows and tall pine trees is an ideal campsite for independent travelers. The inhabitants of the Rama valley are also very hospitable and friendly. They are motivated to promote environmentally friendly tourism in their area. Tharsen is another interesting place for tourists. It is 42 kilometers away from the headquarters of the Astore district. It has a jeepable road and leads to Rupal and Mazino pass. Thareshing glacier and zipur are sights here. A wooden water canal was built in Rupal about 500 - 600 years ago. From the main Astore, jeep can also be rented to come to Rupal. This place is located at a distance of 18 KM from the main office of Astore. Nanga Perbat Inn is the closest hotel.
