First & Last Lines
Thank you for the tag, @dear-massacre! Ily!
Rules: Post the first and last lines of the last 10 fics you worked on. WIPs are allowed!
Alright, the first three here are WIPs that are yet unpublished! Then the rest are on AO3, even if they aren't yet complete.
Soft Poly Parents of Beacon Hills (working title) | John/Melissa/Chris/Peter | Rating TBD (mature/teen):
It starts, funnily enough, with a group chat
"I think I - at least - underestimated just how out of practice I am at this whole thing."
The Heart Sweater™️ | Allydia | Teen+
She's not wearing it for her, but Lydia can pretend.
This is more serious than 'awkward'.
The Worst Beta (aka the Grindr Bite Fic) | Steter | Explicit
And sure, okay, maybe Stiles could have figured out that the guy was a wolf.
Scott levels him with a Look. "Gee, I wonder where I've heard something like that before."
Possessive Beasts (WIP) | Steterek | Explicit | 16,549 words posted
The possessive thing in Peter's chest snarls for him to sink his teeth into Stiles Stilinski, but he waits.
It's a small victory that it was his information that got them to the point of the ritual, even if they still have no idea who could be working its magic.
Beasts of Beacon Hills | Sterek, Steter, Scerek, Sceter | Explicit | 5,708 words
There's no other way to describe it: Scott and Stiles are fucking pumped for this camping trip.
He wishes - more than anything - that they had just let the mystery go.
maybe we got lost in translation | Stisaac | Explicit | 1,998 words
"The fuck is this, Stiles?"
They'll figure it out, he's sure.
in the woods somewhere | Steter | Explicit | 3,020 words
Stiles should have known better than to come out to the preserve alone tonight.
He closes his eyes and lets the darkness take him again. It's all he can do.
The Greenberg Files | Stiles/Scott/Greenberg | Explicit | 7,962 words
Things are pretty crazy in Beacon Hills, so Jared is pleased as punch when his application to spend the second half of his junior year abroad in Greece is accepted.
And while Jared still has plans - he's still going to go out into the world and kick ass at college and beyond - he's more than happy to spend his remaining time in Beacon Hills as a part of the pack, as a part of this relationship.
Mario Kartussy | Liam/Scott/Theo/Stiles | Explicit | 4,252 words
This was the best kind of pack day, Stiles was absolutely sure of it, even if they only called it dude's night and not an actual pack night, since it was more exclusive.
No one could deny that it was off to a pretty goddamn stellar start, though.
Creature of the Night | Stackson | Mature | 7,595 words
"And to think of all the shit you gave me for being a kanima. Oh, this is gold," Jackson laughs, genuinely doubled over with glee.
"I guess so," Jackson says with his warm, relaxed smile that's Stiles' absolute favorite. "I think we can work with that."

Season Three, Episode Nineteen: Letharia Vulpina
"Have you worked with wolves before?" He asks the werewolf emissary. Oh boy, we're starting daft today.
Yep, that's the same set as two episodes ago, and the one they'll use again at the end of the season.
And that's why you don't mess with Deaton.
Did they like, milk Jackson before he went to London? They seem to have more kanima venom than they know what to do with.
Okay, they resolved the cliffhanger with a little more flair than the previous episode suggested they were going to.
Mmm, Kentucky Fried Isaac.
ALPHA ROAR. We love to see it.
Oh shit, the bear traps! I remember now!
For a guy who owns lots of guns, Argent's apartment gets broken into surprisingly often. He needs better security.
Sure, tackle snog. As good a reason as any to jump on Danny.
This is the Nogitsune playing with everyone, isn't it? That's not Stiles at all.
Peter's such a dramatic bastard, I love it.
Derek and Chris are the definitive Odd Couple.
"I'm dedicating my life to helping narcissistic teenage girls." - Line of the episode right there.
Oh Jared, sweetie, nooooo.
Peter's memory is about the Desert Wolf, presumably?
I wanna tell Parrish to be careful, but we all know he'll be fine.
"You're not just an uncle." - They resolved that one quicker than I expected. Although I guess it's one question answered and another one posed so y'know.
Kitsune tails! Also confirming that it was Noshiko that summoned the Oni.
Bomb fake-out! Ruuuuuun!
So much for not risking your life to protect an Argent, eh Derek? He's definitely mellowed.
Oh it's all been a ploy to weaken Scott, hasn't it? He's been taking pain left and right, so the Nogitsune can hurt him.
Oh, they're really answering all these Peter questions today, I'm impressed. At least they followed through with that whole plotline about him having a kid, even if they had to pivot away from it being Jackson.
Unnecessary flippy shit beats demons with katanas today apparently.
Or not, never mind.
The Nogitsune is a bastard, yowch. This whole episode was very well orchestrated.
Ha! Deaton for the win!

With more casting info coming out on The Winchesters, that leaked script is looking pretty legit. Can the show survive if it breaks all canon of the original series? (John learning about the MOL and hunting. Even if his memory is washed, how does dean know about their history to narrate? I get new fans or GA may not get canon. But won’t this prequel get ppl to watch the original series? And the prequel idea goes against the premise of spn? I feel sorry for jensen at future cons.
The leaked script could also have been a casting script, meaning scenes were made up solely for the auditioning actors and not for the actual pilot episode. But in my experience, "dummy scripts" tend to be very close to the source material, in other words very canon and The Winchester script is anything but.
A good adaptation will get people interested in the source material. Houghton Mifflin had published Tolkien's books for 6 decades and were so nervous over Peter Jackson's vision that they put out new editions out before the movie's release in order to sell as many copies as possible in case the movie bombs and cause them to lose a generation of readers. As you know, the movie was a massive hit and Houghton Mifflin experienced "phenomenal" sales, helped that Jackson stayed true to the essence of Tolkien's books.
Amazon's Rings of Power appears to be an expensive fanfiction, meaning it's not Middle-Earth as Tolkien wrote it, but it's Tolkien's work as someone else wants it to be for themselves. If Rings of Power is a success and fans read Lord of the Rings, they're likely going to be disappointed, and Houghton Mifflin may not gain a new generation of readers.
The Winchesters appear to be along that same line, it's not Supernatural as Kripke/Gamble/Carver/Dabb wrote it, but as someone else wants it to be for themselves. Fanfiction. And only few fanfictions go on to become their own successful works i.e. 50 Shade of Grey was originally a fanfiction of Twilight but was kicked off of Fanfction.net for being too risqué.
"I feel sorry for jensen at future cons."
If The Winchesters is not a success then it will get memory-holed by fans as something that must not ever be mentioned under pains of YANA flashbacks. Jared girls are largely indifferent towards Jensen and likely not the target audience of The Winchesters anyways. AAs will defend The Winchesters the same way they defend Devour and its epileptic chair sex performance.

okay, so i just finished rereading oouin and omg i need to rant about the ending. like the book is really good and everything but the ending is ??????
like first of all: the bomb?? why is there a bomb it seriously came out of nowhere? and that jared jackson guy was rly random character imo, like he came out of nowhere basically, set off a bomb, then we never hear anything about him again?
then second of all nate, i dont even really know why nate was the one to get hurt by the bomb bc he wasn't really a major character? like it would have made sm more sense if it was maeve or knox??
then somehow, after getting hit by a bomb, nate is well enough to go to a wedding the NEXT DAY even though maeve literally says that the arboretum closes at 6 - so presumably the explosion took place much later than 6, so nate had surgery that night and then is just fine and let out of the hospital at what can only be a few hours later??
and then BRONWYN IN THE WEDDING SCENE. why was she so pissy when nate didn't want to dance?? like babes, your boyfriend literally got severely injured last night (protecting her as well) maybe he wants to rest?? seriously the whole book bronwyn was completely out of character and she really annoyed me.
oh my god hi i love this so much.
the bomb was so out of the blue?? like i completely forgot about all the threats bc they weren't touched on? like it was treated as something that just happens to eli and therefore not something to knox to worry about (as sad as it sounds). and jared is so random?? i just feel like this entire plot point came out of left field ngl.
nate did not need to be injured. knox getting his hero arc would have been better. maeve nearly dying after literally telling her sister a couple hours earlier that she was convinced that she wouldn't live past high school so she didn't get close to anyone would be so interesting.
again: when you get literal pieces of bomb shrapnel taken out of you, you are not well enough to go to a wedding the next morning. i wasn't even allowed out of the er when i dislocated my knee for at least twelve hours and that was not a surgery.
bronwyn was the worst at the wedding. if the guy doesn't want to dance then don't dance. go dance with your sister, or your friends, or heck go dance with your parents. i've danced with my dad at tens of weddings when i didn't have anyone else to dance with. and bron has great relationships with her parents that's totally plausible for her to do.
i've said this before and i'll keep saying it bc i'm mad: bronwyn did not need to be in the book at all. cooper was literally just in a different city and he didn't have major scenes. bronwyn was on a different coast. this book was maeve's book. the main couple was maeve and luis. not bronwyn and nate. it made sense for nate to have scenes, he's like maeve's brother. and he works for knox's dad. it made sense for addy to have scenes, her sister was getting married and she lives across the hall from phoebe. it made sense for kris to have a scene because he was watching his boyfriend's baseball game.
also bronwyn was kind of the worst to everyone. she kept telling maeve to apply to college even though maeve clearly has not had a normal high school experience and it might be hard for her to think about that right now. she judged addy for not being organized when the literal wedding planner was stuck in the hospital with her daughter (who had alcohol poisoning). she got mad at nate when he was kissed by jules even though he didn't willingly do that (he was assaulted!!) and bronwyn did willingly hang out with her ex boyfriend. and then she made maeve's cancer scare all about her. there was no reason for her to be upset with maeve for not telling her because maeve was scared out of her mind and she didn't want to hurt bronwyn.
i'm just so upset with the way bronwyn was written in oouin i wish her scenes were replaced with cooper.

Clarke and friends go through the anomaly on Sanctum, they end up in modern-day New York. They have no idea what to do until they meet a helpful young kid name, Cal.

THE FUZZELECTRIC DAWN
FUZZO
I feel the morning fuzz’lectric
It shocks me up before the dawn
See all my past mistakes
Play out on the ceiling
FELTINA
Yarny rays are peeking
O’er the mountains furry range
Chase this darkness away
Shed light on all these feelings
FUZZO / FELTINA
Maybe this way isn’t right, a change
In directions what I need
Where will this morning lead?
PROFESSOR Y
The sun’s first light
So warm so bright
Helps me to breath and to believe
I have survived another night
PANGLA
Good morning day! Hi!
You’re looking great! Yeah!
Live or die, I’m feeling fine
Under your inspiring shine!
PROFESSOR Y / PANGLA
For the sun is a sign, telling you there’s still time
To live at least one morning more
This Fuzzelectric Dawn
What will you use it for?
FUZZO
Is any of this real?
FELTINA
What do I truly feel?
PROFESSOR Y
How will my amazing genius solve this one?
ALL
What will the light reveal,
This FUzzelectric Dawn?
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, ah ah, ah ah
MAMA / ADVISO
This is the Day!
No more we wait!
We must claim, what’s ours, our fate
Is starred, to free the Fuzz, delayed!
VALBORG / SONDRA
Just how long have I waited?
But can I say I am prepared?
Can I return the world,
Can this fur be shorn?
Is it still there?
The world I cared for?
I do not care, I am prepared
To do whate’er to get us there!
MAMA / ADVISO
There will be no mercy
For those that shun His Fuzz
Those who refuse to do His will
They will be torn
VALBORG / SONDRA / MAMA / ADVISO
Something great has come, this day delayed too long
Bring on the sun!
Today we greet our fate!
Today is all we are!
ALL
So much behind me reminds me what’s to come
I’m all I am, this Fuzzelectric Dawn!
I can feel it coming, all the things I must become!
I’m all I am, this Fuzzelectric Dawn!
PANGLA’S MESSAGE TO THE WORLD
Breaking news! Welcome to the broadcast
Pangla speaks - and we’re live at the scene
We have a panel waiting in the stu-dyo
To analyze her speech
Check back for our round table
They’ll give their takes and yell and spit
We’ll shove as many heads into tiny boxes
As the screen can fit
Then join us later for our team of experts
And a bozo or two
That we slipped into make things spicy
With their overtly racist views
Anticipation is truly mounting
For all our great programming today
So let’s go live:
What does Pangla say??
…
It seems we spoke over most of what she said
We apologize - that wasn’t our fault
How were we supposed to know that she’d be talking
While we tried to talk? (Rude!)
But we bet it was incredible and
People are in the streets
Fuzzed and flesh joined as one - DAMN
That must have been some speech!
This just in - oh thank goodness!
Here’s a bit of good news:
Someone DVR’d it and so
We will play it now for you:
…
Looks like someone deleted the broadcast
To make room for some other show
What a shame it was a beautiful moment
As far as we know
The crowds are here and they’re growing larger
Seems like she struck a nerve
The discontent have taken to the streets
And are chanting out some words…
Oh of course! Why didn’t we think of that!
We must be fuzzed in the head
Let’s listen in -
They’re chanting what she said!
And they say:
It’s hard to hear what they’re saying!
They’re all speaking at once.
I’m sure it was really beautiful
So that’s the headline we’ll run:
It’s Pangla’s Message to the World
And it was beautiful!
Pangla’s Message to the World
Something Something!
It’s Pangla’s Message to the world
And it was beautiful! We guess.
Thanks for tuning in!
Please stick around
For some other dumb stuff!
COUP COUP CATCHOO
ADVISO
You can’t deny - it was on your mind
Even if you ain’t that bright
How long you think you coulda puttered on
With your job half done, renegades on the run
When you haven’t the guts t’do what’s required?
MAMA BOOB
We’re gonna give the fuzzes what they need:
The crushing freedom of total theocracy! (C-c-c-c!)
To many fail to see the Fuzz’s love and care
Time to bring them to heel with mandatory prayer
Those that defy will be unraveled in the streets!
ADVISO
But first and most deserved, let this worst of the furred be removed!
FELTINA AND MAMA
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
ADVISO
Let this waste be erased, we’ve no patience to wait for what is due!
FELTINA AND MAMA
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
ADVISO
Suuuure…
You did lots for the cause, now get lost! You’ve exhausted your use!
FELTINA AND MAMA
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
ADVISO
Let the empire rise!
MAMA
It is mine!
ADVISO AND MAMA
Your time is thru!
FUZZO
Mama, I love you and you’ve said some things that hurt my heart,
But maybe we can compromise
MAMA
My son you’re sweet and simple - and I think you should always know:
You are a failure in my eyes
FUZZO
God… really? Ow.
MAMA
Your brother’s still alive you’d
Let your sister survive, a
Monster hunts us in the streets!
ADVISO
You’re soft, boy! But not the good… hard kind.
MAMA
Now
It’s mama’s turn - so get out her way!
The fuzz is all and let the fuzz be PRAISED!
It’s time to finish what his bomb began
Wipe the flesh from the land, and send them into the camps
Spread the Fuzz far and wide to let the elder arise!
So his tendrils may tangle us up in his strangle
And suffocate us all in his grace!
MAMA
Let his world be served and his word be made furred - it’s overdue!
FELTINA AND ADVISO
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
MAMA
Let his Fuzz come to us, let us smother in his love and truth!
FELTINA AND ADVISO
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
MAMA
Let all heed his call and exalt in his thrall - Halleluh!
FELTINA AND ADVISO
Coup Coup Cat-choo! Coup Coup Cat-choo!
MAMA
Let the wicked be whipped and then ripped - not too quick…
Let them suffer enough to be made example of
What true leadership in the service of Fuzz can do!
Coup Coup Cat-choo!

Tv Show Recommendations
Part One Here
Flashpoint: A Canadian show about the SRU - Strategic Response Unit (A section of the Police Force). All the characters are lovable and each episode is different (My fave character is Spike - bomb and tech nerd with a heart of gold). There is drama/suspense involved in each episode but it’s never overwhelming (except for a few select episodes). There are 5 seasons (75 episodes) and they are all on Hulu. I would link a promo trailer but they all make it look super dramatic when it’s not.
Republic of Doyle: This is another Canadian show. It’s about the Doyle family, a group of Private Investigators. The main character is Jake Doyle, he is an idiot but in a charming and cute way. It is both stupid and hilarious (with a little drama thrown in here and there but not too much). I definitely suggest it if you love stupid cop comedy shows. There are 6 seasons (77 episodes), and they are also all available on Hulu. Here is a really short trailer from youtube.
Star Trek Voyager: This Star Trek show takes place at the same time as Deep Space Nine (which I also recommend), so about the 2370′s. It follows Captain Kathyrn Janeway (yes a female captain). The characters are all great and the story line is good. They get shot into deep space and the series follows their adventures as they are trying to make it back home. There are 7 seasons, 168 episodes. All are available on Hulu.
Star Trek Enterprise: This one takes place early on in the mid 22nd century (about 100 years before Kirk is captain). It follows Captain Archer (Whose prized beagle is referenced in the 2009 movie) and his crew as the Enterprise is sent on it’s first voyage. I like all the characters and the story line is good (apart from some stupid episodes). There are 4 seasons and 97 episodes, all on Hulu.
The Brokenwood Mysteries: This is a show based in New Zealand. It’s a crime show, three cops/detectives, mostly focused on one. Most of the crimes are pretty weird (not all of them). It never gets too dramatic, and there is humor thrown in. There is a ginger detective who is adorable (an also played a power ranger in one of the old original 90′s shows) and another man, who’s name is Jared, who is pretty attractive. I should mention that every episode is about 1 hour and 30 minutes long. They are on youtube (you have to pay). Though I watch them on Acorn.tv, which you also have to pay for. HERE is a trailer for the series on youtube.
9-1-1: This FOX show just started, it’s following the daily lives of a team of firefighters, a police officer, and a 911 Operator, whose lives all intersect in pretty much each episode. Each person has their own unique backstory. All the characters are pretty likable, and I do really suggest it. Each episode is different and somewhat dramatic, but not too much. All episodes of the first season are on Hulu and a second season has been announced.
Justified: This is a show that takes place in Kentucky. Here is the description given by Google: “Deputy Raylan Givens has his own, Wild West-style methods of upholding justice, putting him at odds with the criminals he hunts and with his bosses in the U.S. Marshals Service. And an incident prompts his reassignment to the Kentucky district where he grew up. The character is based on one created by author Elmore Leonard in several books and short stories.” I suggest this to anyone that likes shows like Castle. Raylan Givens is a great character, another character called Tim Gutterson is great, and then there is Boyd Crowder, who I have a love/hate relationship with. I watch is on Solarmovies, but you can watch is on Google, Youtube and Amazon Video. Here is a trailer for the first season - just to give you a feel at what it’s about.
The Magnificent Seven (1998-2000): This show is based on the 1960 movie. The characters are all amazing, I love them all. Thank you to @whatif-animagineblog for introducing it to me! This is the description from IMDB: “When an Indian village is threatened by ex-Confederate soldiers, several villagers head out to seek help. They recruit seven men, each with unique skills, who return to the village and take on the raiders. Following this, the men take up residence in a small town, making their skills available to those in need.” The characters are Chris Larabee (the leader clad in black, hard past, great heart), Vin Tanner (Ex buffalo hunter, ex bounty hunter, current adorable man with great hair), Ezra Standish (Gambler, Con Artist, Cheater, Southern Gentlemen, hard not to love), Buck Wilmington (Lover of women literally and figuratively, funniest character - to me at least, great mustache), Nathan Jackson (ex slave, closest thing to a doctor the town has, heart of gold), J.D. (youngest, clumsy, adorable, surprised he didn’t get himself killed in the first episode), and Josiah Sanchez (Played by Ron Perlman, use to be a missionary, not afraid of death, nice to everyone, says a lot of philosophical shit). I couldn’t find a short clip that would give a description, so HERE is the opening sequence so you can see the characters and some brief glimpses of the show. You can watch all the episodes in decently bad quality on youtube.
Any Jane Austen Book Based Movies/Mini Series: My favorites are Pride and Prejudice (2005 and 1995), Persuasion (2007), Emma (2009), Mansfield Park (1999), Mansfield Park (2007), Northanger Abbey (2007) (Northanger Abbey has some cringy parts but over all it’s pretty good) and Sense and Sensibility (2008) (I write for all of these) - Pride and prejudice (1995), Emma and Sense and Sensibility are all on Hulu.
If you have any shows or movies that you would like to recommend to me please just send me a message or an ask!

Could you write a one shot about the direct aftermath of the explosion, probably from Maeve’s POV?
Yes! Here you go! (why am I so excited about something so sad? Idk)
There’s a ringing in my ears, and my head is pounding as I try to pull myself off the ground, but my arm is stinging and the voices and pounding feet around me is confusing. I roll over and stare up at the sky, or maybe I’m looking at the grass. Everything looks grey. I can hear someone shouting a name over and over again. “MAEVE! MAEVE!” who’s name is that? I wonder before I realize that it’s mine. I’m Maeve. I turn and see Knox, shaking me, fear on his face. Where did Knox come from? I turn my head and see the back of a restaurant, where nearly everyone I love is running towards us, and suddenly it all comes flying back to me: the bag, the bomb, the explosion. Running. And oh god Bronwyn. I need to get Bronwyn.
Someone grabs my shoulders and pulls me up. I’m looking into clear blue eyes. They look like Addy’s I think for a moment before I go back to wondering where Bronwyn is, and why I have to get her.
“Knox what happened to her?” I recognize that voice. It’s sending a rush of joy through me, and I recognize the warm hands on my back.
“She keep mumbling about Bronwyn.”
“Bronwyn,” I say louder.
“Maeve talk to us.”
“BRONWYN” I’m shouting now, and I hear a distant voice calling my name back.
“Maeve you need to-” I know who’s talking now, it’s Luis. Every fiber in my body wants to sink back into him and hope that this is all a bad dream, but I need my sister. I wrench out of someone’s grip. I think it’s Addy’s. I’m running towards the last place I saw my sister. I’m running faster than I ever have. I don’t stop until I see a blur of red. I’m brought back, for a moment, to a few hours ago when Bronwyn pulled that dress out of my closet, held it against her body, and said, “this’ll look nice, right?”
I had told her something. What had I said? “Nate doesn’t care what you wear sis.”
Oh god Nate. He’s lying on the ground, covered in blood. My sister is kneeling, holding one of his hands and pushing back his hair. “It’s okay, you’ll be okay.” She keeps saying this over and over again, but tears are running down her face. She had said the same thing to me when I was ten, when everyone, including me, had thought I was going to die.
No. No, Nate can’t die. He can’t.
I crash into the ground next to my sister. She doesn’t look at me. She just cries harder. Both of her hands grip one of Nate’s now, and I take over pushing Nate’s hair off his forehead. He looks at me, and tries to smile. It looks painful. The running feet are coming towards us again, and I wish they’d keep the pounding noises away. But there are more people now, with a stretcher. They drop to the ground too, but they don’t comfort Nate. They lift him up, and I can see the pain etched on his face. It’s breaking my heart, but Bronwyn has it worse. She’s crying so hard she can hardly answer the uniformed people. From my vantage point on the ground, I can see Bronwyn follow the people, who have Nate on the stretcher. They have names. I know they do. But I can’t remember it now, and it’s starting to annoy me. Someone wraps their arms around me. I turn to see Cooper. He looks scared out of his mind, and his eyes are one my arm. I follow his eyes to see my own arm covered in blood. It that mine? I can’t tell, and I’m feeling vaguely panicked now. I just want to understand what’s going on. Where’s Bronwyn?
“Maeve. You’re okay.” Cooper squeezes me tight once, before moving back, and I want to call him back. His arms were comforting, but soon someone’s kissing my forehead and lifting me off the ground.
I look up to see a face that relaxes me instantly. Luis. I’m in his arms, and my head is against his shoulder and it’s kind of comfortable. I want to stay here and sleep, but soon he’s putting me back on the ground, but it’s not the ground, because I’m sitting on something soft. It feels like a bed. I’m looking at another uniformed person, and finally I remember their names. EMTs. I feel stupid for not remembering.
“That looks pretty bad honey, can I wrap it up?” The EMT asks me, her face and voice are kind and gentle, but I’m wondering why they’re worried about my arm when Nate’s arm is bleeding harder than mine.
“Maevey, let her look at your arm.”
I do as Luis says. She wipes off the blood, and I can see a long cut. It’s deep, and explains why it was stinging. She wraps it up, Luis lifts me back up from the bed. I look around, and suddenly I realize I’m not on a bed, but in the back of a car. It looks familiar. Of course it is. It’s mine.
“Everyone’s driving to the hospital Maeve.” Luis is talking to me as he leads me to the passenger seat. “I gave Knox the keys to my car, he’s driving over right now. We can drive in yours. Can I have the keys?”
I slide my hand into the pocket of my hoodie and hand the keys to Luis. “Thanks Maeve.” He clicks my seat belt into place like I’m a little kid, and he climbs into the front seat. As he starts driving I can feel something at my feet, and I look down to see my laptop. Suddenly, as if a fog was clearing, I remember exactly what was happening before the bomb went off.
“Luis, Jared Jackson, he-”
“Shhh Maevey. They arrested him. You’re safe.”
“Oh. Good.” I sink back into my seat as the hospital looms ahead of us. Luis pulls into the garage and pulls out his wallet to pay for the parking spot.
“I can pay,” I say, looking around my car for my wallet, but Luis is already paying, and I don’t have the energy to argue. I’m too tired.
We both climb out of the car and head to the emergency room, where there seem to be a million and one reporters. The minute Luis and I step into the room someone has engulfed me in a hug. It takes me a minute to realize that the person, who smells like aftershave and peppermint, is my father. I hug him back with all my might. Here, in his arms, is the safest I’ve felt all night. He pulls back to look at me, his hands on my shoulders. His amber eyes search mine.
“Your mother is with Bronwyn. I’m going to go see them. Are you okay here Maeveita?”
“Yes.”
“You look tired.”
“I am.”
I hear another person calling my name, and another set of arms are wrapped around me. I lean back into my mother.
“The police want to talk to you and Knox. We need to go to Bronwyn now, but we’ll be back okay Maevey?”
“Okay.”
The fog is descending again, and I just want to curl up and sleep. Before I know it, my parents are gone and someone else is hugging me. “You brave, brave girl,” Ashton Prentiss says into my hair. “We own you so much.”
“I just want to sleep,” I mumble into her collarbone.
“Just hang on a little longer, okay?”
I follow her to a chair next to Luis. I curl up and lean my head on the back of the chair. It’s not comfortable, but it’s enough. I’m happy, though, when Luis lifts me up again, and places me in his lap. I lean my head against his chest, and I try to answer Kris’s question about whether or not I’m okay. I really do, but before I can even sort out if I am okay or not, I’m drifting off into a dreamless sleep.
Ahhh okay that was really angsty and this was the first thing I’ve written in a while. Let me know what y’all think about it. I didn’t mean for it to be sad, but here we are.

Over 65 U.S. House Members call for $100 million in U.S. aid for Artsakh and Armenia
New Post has been published on https://armenia.in-the.news/politics/over-65-u-s-house-members-call-for-100-million-in-u-s-aid-for-artsakh-and-armenia-72659-27-04-2021/
Over 65 U.S. House Members call for $100 million in U.S. aid for Artsakh and Armenia
A bipartisan group of over 65 U.S. House members joined in the Congressional Armenian Caucus request for the House Appropriations to allocate over $100 million in U.S. aid to Armenia and Artsakh following Turkey and Azerbaijan’s devastating attacks last year, a key policy priority of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
U.S. Representatives sent a letter to House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Ranking Member Hal Rogers (R-KY), as the panel begins crafting the FY2022 Foreign Aid Bill.
“We want to thank Armenian Caucus leaders and Congressional cosigners from across the U.S. for supporting U.S. re-engagement through robust U.S. assistance to Artsakh, an immediate cut-off in all U.S. aid to Azerbaijan, and strong support for the sovereignty of Armenia as a pillar of regional security architecture,” said ANCA Government Affairs Director Tereza Yerimyan. “We look forward to working closely with House and Senate appropriators to ensure maximum funding reaches Armenians displaced by Turkish and Azerbaijani aggression, as Artsakh rebuilds from the devastating war.”
“The below requests for Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh in the Fiscal Year 2022 State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs appropriations bill are critical for assisting the country in helping to make its people more secure, bolster its democracy and sustainable economic development, stabilize its civil society, aid its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and, most urgently, alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh,” stated the “Dear Colleague” letter circulated by Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Jackie Speier (D-CA) and Vice-Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), which included the following budgetary requests:
— Robust funding to directly aid the Armenian people of Nagorno Karabakh to recover and rebuild, including urgently needed housing, food security, water and sanitation, medical and refugee assistance, rehabilitation, and infrastructure needs.
— $2 million for Conventional Weapons Destruction programs in Nagorno Karabakh.
— $100 million for economic, governance, rule of law, and security assistance to Armenia through State Department and USAID accounts.
— The suspension of all U.S. security assistance for Azerbaijan until it has been verified to have ceased all attacks against Armenia and Artsakh.
Over 50,000 letters were sent through the ANCA March to Justice advocacy portal urging legislators to cosign the Armenian Caucus letter to U.S. House appropriators.
The full list of Congressional cosigners joining Representatives Pallone, Schiff and Speier are Representatives: Jake Auchincloss (D-MA), Nanette Barragan (D-CA), Karen Bass (D-CA), Don Beyer (D-VA), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Salud Carbajal (D-CA), Tony Cardenas (D-CA), Joaquín Castro (D-TX), Judy Chu (D-CA), David Cicilline (D-RI), Jim Costa (D-CA), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX), John Garamendi (D-CA), Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Brian Higgins (D-NY), Steven Horsford (D-NV), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Jared Huffman (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Bill Johnson (R-OH), Ro Khanna (D-CA), Dan Kildee (D-MI), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), James Langevin (D-RI), Andy Levin (D-MI), Mike Levin (D-CA), Ted Lieu (D-CA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), James McGovern (D-MA), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Grace Napolitano (D-CA), Donald Norcross (D-NJ), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Devin Nunes (R-CA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Chris Pappas (D-NH), Donald Payne (D-NJ), Chellie Pingree (D-ME), Katie Porter (D-CA), Kathleen Rice (D-NY), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), John Sarbanes (D-MD), Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), Brad Schneider (D-IL), Brad Sherman (D-CA), Albio Sires (D-NJ), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Haley Stevens (D-MI), Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Dina Titus (D-NV), Paul Tonko (D-NY), David Valadao (R-CA), and Susan Wild (D-PA).
The full text of the letter is provided below:
Text of Armenian Caucus Letter to House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Chair Barbara Lee and Ranking Member Hal Rogers Regarding FY2022 Foreign Aid Priorities
Dear Chairwoman Lee and Ranking Member Rogers:
We write to thank the Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs for its longstanding leadership in support of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). As you prepare the Fiscal Year 2022 foreign aid bill, we ask you to include the below provisions that would enable the United States to re-engage effectively in this region and expand our U.S.-Armenia strategic partnership based upon shared interests and common values.
Humanitarian and Demining Assistance in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)
The people of Artsakh are facing an ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the unprovoked Azerbaijani and Turkish attack in Artsakh on September 27, 2020, which led to six weeks of devastating fighting that killed over 5,000 people and forced more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee Artsakh. Azerbaijani forces made rapid advances into the region with the aid of Turkish Bayraktar drones that utilize American components and technology, heavy weaponry including illegal cluster and white phosphorus munitions, and Turkish-backed foreign mercenaries, many alleged to have ties to internationally recognized terrorist groups.
While Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed a tenuous ceasefire that went into effect on November 10 that brought an end to the fighting, the destruction and devastation caused by Azerbaijan’s aggression will continue to affect the region for years to come. We believe the U.S. must act in a timely manner to provide a robust humanitarian assistance package for Artsakh. This direct funding will help provide aid for refugees, housing, food security, water and sanitation, healthcare, rehabilitation, and demining/UXO clearance. It will empower the people of Artsakh to reconstruct their communities, rebuild their lives, and resettle in their homes.
An aid package would be consistent with past U.S. investments in humanitarian assistance and a negotiated peace to the Artsakh conflict, including aid for the vital U.S. government-funded landmine and unexploded ordnance clearance efforts in the region. Since 2000, the HALO Trust, which operates the program, has cleared over 500 minefields in Artsakh, saving civilian lives and returning many acres of land safely to their communities. Unfortunately, the recent fighting reversed much of this progress as the Azerbaijani bombing campaign indiscriminately targeted civilians and telecommunications, transportation, health, and energy infrastructure in large population centers like Stepanakert. As a result, there is a continued and demonstrable humanitarian need for funding this important program, which has a long history of Congressional support and was included in the FY21 House-passed appropriations bill. We urge you to include the following provisions in the foreign aid bill:
· The Committee strongly supports robust funding to directly aid the Armenian people of Nagorno Karabakh to recover and rebuild from the devastating fall 2020 war, including urgently needed housing, food security, water and sanitation, medical and refugee assistance, rehabilitation, and infrastructure needs.
· Of the funds appropriated by this Act, not less than $2,000,000 shall be made available for Conventional Weapons Destruction programs in Nagorno Karabakh.
Economic, Governance, Rule of Law and Security Assistance
The United States is uniquely positioned to make important diplomatic advances in the South Caucasus at this critical juncture. This is especially true in Armenia, a young democracy that has been shaken by last year’s war in Artsakh and the resulting uncertainty. Providing significant economic assistance to Armenia will help make its people more secure, bolster its democracy, help sustain economic development, stabilize its civil society, and aid its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and, most urgently, alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh.
We believe that this critical U.S. investment will strengthen the U.S.-Armenia relationship, aid in rebuilding, and solidify the U.S. presence and influence in the region. This is especially true with concern to the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, which has been generous in its support of Armenia and Artsakh in previous Congresses.
· Of the funds appropriated by this Act, not less than $100 million shall be made available for security, economic, governance, and rule of law assistance to Armenia. An increase in funding to accounts such as the Department of State’s Office of the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Europe and Eurasia should be made available for these purposes.
Azerbaijan Security Assistance
The United States must hold destabilizing actors accountable to ensure lasting peace in the South Caucasus. There is significant evidence that Azerbaijani and Turkish forces planned the September 27 assault. The invaders stockpiled armaments, including drones that killed many innocent civilians. Azerbaijani troops in Armenia’s Tavush Province initiated provocations as early as July 2020. Azeri and Turkish forces also conducted several large-scale joint military exercises near the Armenian border that foreshadowed the coming attacks.
Shockingly, Azerbaijan received over $100 million in U.S. military assistance in Fiscal Years 2018 and 2019 through the Section 333 Building Partner Capacity program. This defies almost two decades of parity in U.S. security assistance between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It also does not send a supportive, pro-democracy signal to our partners in the region. Azerbaijan received significant American security assistance when it was planning the attacks against Artsakh that led to senseless violence and destruction.
Furthermore, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with the support of Turkish President Erdogan, continues to inhibit the resolution of the Artsakh conflict with his incendiary rhetoric and refusal to release an estimated 200 prisoners of war and civilians currently being held by his forces and subjected to documented abuse and mistreatment. His actions are antithetical to U.S. interests in the region and the pro-peace mission of the OSCE Minsk Group in recent years. Considering his refusal to end his threat of violence, his continuous arms build-up, and ongoing aggression against Armenia and Artsakh, we urge the Subcommittee to include the following language into the bill:
· Suspend U.S. military aid, including under Section 333 Building Partner Capacity Program, to Azerbaijan until its government ceases its attacks against Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, and agrees to an equitable resolution of the conflict.
· Add the following certification requirement to the President’s waiver authority under Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act: ” No funds appropriated or otherwise made available under this Act may be provided to the Government of Azerbaijan until the President determines, and so reports to the Congress, that the Government of Azerbaijan is taking demonstrable steps to cease all blockades and other offensive uses of force against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.”
Again, thank you for your leadership on the Subcommittee. The provisions highlighted in this letter will help contribute to democratic values in the South Caucasus and further strengthen the U.S.-Armenia strategic partnership. We appreciate your consideration of these requests.

UFC Vegas 16 predictions
Marvin Vettori is on the cusp of capping off a productive 2020.
Fighting for just the second time this year, Vettori enters his first UFC headliner against top-5 contender Jack Hermansson this Saturday at UFC Vegas 16. His other win in 2020 was a thrilling submission victory over Karl Roberson, a rival who rubbed Vettori the wrong way for a variety of reasons before they finally settled things in the octagon.
A win over Hermansson would be a gigantic step towards a title shot and possibly a rematch with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Beating Hermansson is no easy task though. “The Joker” has won seven of his past nine fights, with his only losses coming to top opposition in Jared Cannonier and Thiago Santos. He’s also proven himself to be one of the best finishers at 185 pounds and could be the first to stop Vettori. Just ask Kelvin Gastelum, who was caught by a Hermansson heel hook in just 78 seconds.
Vettori isn’t the only one who could seriously shake up next week’s rankings. Contender Series standout Jamahal Hill has lived up to the hype in two UFC appearances so far and for his third octagon assignment he’s drawn veteran light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux. Hill can break out from the pack in a major way if he can topple Saint Preux, who missed weight by a pound and a half on Friday.
In other main card action, Gabriel Benitez hunts for his first UFC win as a lightweight when he faces Justin Jaynes, Montana De La Rosa steps in to halt the hype train of Taila Santos in a flyweight bout, light heavyweights Roman Dolidze and John Allan look to add to their impressive finishing tallies, and Movsar Evloev and Nate Landwehr meet in a battle of former M-1 Global champions.
What: UFC Vegas 16
Where: UFC APEX in Las Vegas
When: Saturday, Dec. 5. The five-fight preliminary card begins at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and ESPN2, with the six-fight main card starting at 10 p.m. ET also on ESPN+ and ESPN2.
Jack Hermansson vs. Marvin Vettori
I should probably stop picking against Jack Hermansson, right? Despite his prodigious finishing ability and wins over high-level competition like Kelvin Gastelum, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and David Branch, I always seem to find a reason not to pick him. No more!
Marvin Vettori is just entering his prime and his best days are ahead of him. Fast forward to a year from now and we could be talking about a legitimate top-5 contender at 185 pounds. Like a lot of fighters at this stage of his career though, there are defensive deficiencies that put a ceiling on his potential for now. Defensive deficiencies could be costly when standing across from someone as lethal as Hermansson.
He’s going to learn from this fight, just as Hermansson has learned from his battles with the middleweight division’s best. Unfortunately for Vettori, I think that lesson will come in the form of a humbling defeat. Vettori’s standup and athleticism will keep him competitive in the early going, but Hermansson should get this one to the ground at some point and find a submission finish late in the first or in the second.
Pick: Hermansson
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Jamahal Hill
Unlike the main event, I do think this is a bridge too far for the younger fighter. Jamahal Hill is eight years younger than Ovince Saint Preux, but more importantly he’s 20 UFC fights younger than “OSP.” That’s a huge experience gap to overcome, especially when you consider the luminaries that Saint Preux has beaten or gone the distance with.
Even if you view Saint Preux as being on the outside looking in when it comes to the 205 elite, Hill is even further out right now. At 6-foot-4, Hill has made the most of his natural gifts and fighting instinct, but Saint Preux can match his measurements and certainly has more ways to win this fight on paper.
Speed kills and Hill’s agility is going to give Saint Preux a lot of problems. He’ll have to force Hill to fight at his pace, lest he become Hill’s next knockout victim. You love to see a guy with Hill’s finishing ability, but Saint Preux’s chin is solid and it should hold up here.
Saint Preux has to get this one to the ground to minimize risk, then attack with submissions until Hill has no choice left but to tap.
Pick: Saint Preux
Gabriel Benitez vs. Justin Jaynes
Gabriel Benitez has always been a talented all-rounder who lacks that one spectacular skill to put him over the top. Occasionally, he’s also shown a reluctance to pull the trigger, which shouldn’t be an issue with the aggressive Jaynes. Benitez’s boxing will be his best weapon if he hopes to stifle Jaynes on the feet.
One thing to watch is whether Jaynes changes up his game plan, which is usually comprised of him rapidly closing the distance rather than trying to win a range-striking duel. If he steps too far into Benitez’s range, Benitez will chew him up with fast hands. That said, Jaynes has an affinity for first-round finishes and if he wants another one he may have to get right in Benitez’s face.
This has the potential to be a wild one, which means it could be Benitez who lands a surprising haymaker to end the fight. I’m leaning towards Jaynes testing Benitez’s chin though and taking this one out of the hands of the judges.
Pick: Jaynes
Montana De La Rosa vs. Taila Santos
Don’t let Taila Santos’ 16-1 record fool you, there’s some generous matchmaking in there to put it nicely. The five opponents she faced before appearing on Dana White’s Contender Series had a combined record of 3-4, and three of those wins all belonged to one fighter. If you are liking Santos’ chances, it would be because of the poise she showed in her previous win over the gritty Molly McCann. She looked comfortable standing with McCann and showed rare poise for someone in just their second UFC fight. It’s not a stretch to say that Santos is already one of the best standup fighters at 125 pounds.
The challenge for Montana De La Rosa is to not be completely outclassed on the feet and to make Santos respect her enough there so that she creates openings for takedowns. On the mat is where De La Rosa can steal this one. She has better jiu jitsu and she’s aggressive going for submissions. Santos has to be careful pursuing De La Rosa to the ground if she scores a knockdown or manages to get De La Rosa down some other way.
I’ll probably regret this, but I feel that De La Rosa is being overlooked and I predict she either catches Santos with a submission off of her back or out of a scramble.
Pick: De La Rosa
Roman Dolidze vs. John Allan
Roman Dolidze has got style. He’s part of an influx of talent that the light heavyweight division has seen in the last couple of years and he’s got the kind of standup game that is going to make him popular. He’s not going to wow anyone with his volume, rather he’ll bide his time until he can unleash a high-voltage strike, possibly of the spinning variety.
He’ll have a willing dancer partner in John Allan, another striker comfortable fighting from both southpaw and orthodox stances. Allan may want to test Dolidze’s ground game, but this has the makings of a tactical standup battle with both wary of the other’s power. It’s possible that Allan will look to push the pace from the opening bell and take Dolidze out of his comfort zone.
I give Dolidze the edge for his more unpredictable approach and I see him catching Allan with something out of nowhere for the knockout.
Pick: Dolidze
Nate Landwehr vs. Movsar Evloev
Blue-chipper Movsar Evloev is the most heavily-favored fighter on this card and for good reason. He combines solid technical striking with explosive takedowns, which has been the formula for many a champion. He’s still hunting for his first UFC finish, but he may want taking too many risks against Nate Landwehr.
“The Train” joined the UFC with a reputation as a disciplined brawler and he showed that in his fight with Darren Elkins, putting it on Elkins in a brutal and bloody three-round scrap. With his power and durability, he’s not a name anyone at featherweight should want to see on a fight contract. Unless you have the wrestling of Evloev, of course.
In all likelihood, Evloev will go out with something to prove and invite standup exchanges with Landwehr. He has the skill to win them too, but he has to avoid being dragged into a dogfight. It’s not one big bomb that Evloev has to be wary of, it’s the constant pressure of Landwehr that could lead to his first defeat.
Evloev’s team should be well-prepared for this one with both fighters coming from M-1 Global, so Landwehr probably won’t be able to keep this one standing for long. As long as Evloev mixes it up, he should cruise to a decision or a late finish on the ground.
Pick: Evloev
Preliminaries
Louis Smolka def. Jose Quinonez
Jordan Leavitt def. Matt Wiman
Jimmy Flick def. Cody Durden
Ilia Topuria def. Damon Jackson
Gian Villante def. Jake Collier
