The digital series, titled Animals in Therapy, is directed by Tim Hope and features real footage of endangered and at-risk species voiced-over by an all-star list of comedic talent such as Rhys Darby (Our Flag Means Death / Flight of the Conchords), Jessica Barden (The End of The F***ing World), Mae Martin (The Flight Attendant), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Adrian Bliss (TikTok) and many more.
Each digital short shines the spotlight on vulnerable animals such as Ground Pangolins, California Condors, and Eastern Rock Elephant Shrews, all sharing their challenges and anxieties in a group therapy-like setting.
From California Condors venting about their dating woes in light of dropping population rates, to tropical fish sharing their less-than-ideal living accommodations inside of a plastic milk carton - the cheeky tone is brought to life by the comedic talent and provides an entertaining spin on traditionally serious topics.

House Republicans finally have a speaker, said Jamelle Bouie in The New York Times, and he's a "right-wing fever dream come to life." After three previous nominees flamed out in the face of GOP opposition, Rep. Mike Johnson last week won the speakership with the near unanimous support of the House majority. "A four-term backbencher" from Louisiana, Johnson benefited from a congenial demeanor and being "too obscure to have enemies." But his record is deeply alarming. He worked tirelessly to overturn the 2020 election results on behalf of former President Donald Trump, who enthusiastically backed him for speaker.
Johnson has blamed mass shootings on the teaching of evolution and said abortion providers should be "imprisoned at hard labor." As an attorney for the Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian conservative group, he argued in favor of criminalizing gay sex and said that same-sex marriage is a "dark harbinger of chaos and sexual anarchy that could doom even the strongest republic." It's profoundly troubling that this extremist is now second in line to the presidency-and will preside over the House as it votes to accept the 2024 election results.
THE WEEK November 10, 2023
Prepare for more movement of the Christian Nationalism as government policy. Hell-bent on ignoring the separation of church and state.
My name is Jamel Duane Alatise, I’m an interdisciplinary artist, photographer, poet, director, and model. A British born Nigerian and Jamaican. I am also founder of a purposely-slow publication called People Journal.
I currently base my practice out of my small south London studio, and I am working with the Victoria and Albert museum on a learning and development programme for young people that ends in December 2024.
I studied Performance and Creative Enterprise at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Some highlights from my career so far are:
2018 commission by Barbican for their OpenFest, a poetry performance performed on their Highwalks; and a subsequent beginning of my Stories project for the art publication People Journal
2020 solo digital exhibition ‘The Portraiture of Jamel Duane Alatise powered by fujifilm instax’ plus a year long sponsorship by Fujifilm instax.
2021 photojournalism commission by the Young Vic theatre, documenting their first queer, trans, intersectional, and global majority-led show in collaboration with MAC Cosmetics; and a subsequent commission to direct a documentary about the production coming back on the main-stage two years later in 2023
2023 commission from TATE to respond to their Tate Modern exhibition, Liz Johnson Artur’s ’Time Don’t Run Here’, resulting in a performance of poetry which was also later adapted into a soundpiece exhibited alongside Liz Johnson Artur’s work; and a subsequent commission to respond again to Richard Bell’s work and travelling piece ‘Embassy’, which resulted in a live performance and series of theme discussions in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, alongside Richard Bell.
POETRY
2023 commission from TATE to respond to their Tate Modern exhibition, Liz Johnson Artur’s ’Time Don’t Run Here’, resulting in a performance of poetry which was also later adapted into a soundpiece exhibited alongside Liz Johnson Artur’s work
A small collection of poems from 2018 to 2020.
STORIES
Beginning first as a commission titled Satellites (video above), by the Barbican for their OpenFest, gathering anonymous, handwritten stories became a central part of my practice. Starting in 2018 with just a little over 30 accounts collected, and carried on over years, we now have a growing collection that’s steadily approaching thousands of contributions from anonymous people, across several languages including Chinese, English, French, Italian, Japanese, to name a few.
The project has also been exhibited several times, and made into three different books and counting.
PEOPLE JOURNAL
People Journal is a purposely-slow publication I founded in 2016 while working at another publication called SWVNK (and later Acure) – it started out of frustration, wanting to profile people that may not be the most popular but have really remarkable stories. Since it has grown into an active art project that documents people over longer time spans, focuses on the analogue, the handwritten, and the intimate moments between people during connections. In this respect, People Journal has been used as a vehicle to bring many together, foster connection, and encourage them to spend time offline, in real life, and doing something cathartic, whether in conversation or through arts and crafts.

The momentum that Boys Like Girls had going into their fourth studio album, Sunday At Foxwoods, was probably a bit more positive than the band could’ve expected. Having not released any music as a band since 2012, Boys Like Girls could’ve gone in a number of ways, creatively. The Night Game was keeping lead vocalist Martin Johnson busy with a project after Boys Like Girls went on a hiatus, and this 2023 version of the band feels like a marrying of styles and sounds between everything the band members have done (both as solo artists, and as a creative unit). Sunday At Foxwoods is a thrilling return to form for a band that found some early success with their self-titled debut, peaked commercially with Love Drunk (that had a key song feature with a young artist known as Taylor Swift), and they experienced some creative growing pains on Crazy World. The vinyl reissues of Boys Like Girls and Love Drunk seemed to reinvigorate fan interest in the band’s fourth studio album, known as Sunday At Foxwoods, that is kicking off the next phase of this talented pop-rock band.
After a brief, atmospheric introductory song on the title track, Boys Like Girls rock with veteran poise on “The Outside.” It features a stomping, anthemic chorus of, “It’s okay, it’s alright / Baby welcome to life on the outside / Sleep all day, ride all night / Yeah we’re living it up on the outside,” that reminds longtime fans of the band of the magic that happens when these four musicians get together to create music. While longtime lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni is no longer a part of the band, Jamel Hawke does the band justice by taking over the reins on guitar.
The pulsating drums from the other original band member, John Keefe, is felt far and wide on songs like “Language,” that rocks along with an 80’s new wave sound, married with the pop sensibilities of Fall Out Boy. The excellent lead single of “Blood and Sugar” is exactly what happens when Martin’s The Night Game project bleeds into the songwriting process of Boys Like Girls, and I’m 100% here for it. The hook of, “Even though the girl’s a looker / We’re only blood and sugar, right?” is well thought out pop rock music that keeps interest in the band high.
More reflective songs like “New Love” and “Miracle” reminded me a bit of what The Maine did, mood-wise, on their latest self-titled album, with equally-pleasing results. The latter track takes a cool, grooving bass line from Gregory James and loops Martin’s vocals around it much like a friend you haven’t seen in years coming in for a long embrace. The piano-laced ballad of “Cry” is just great songwriting in general, and showcases the band’s collective growth and ability to show restraint when they need to grab a certain feeling or mood in their music.
After a few brooding tracks in the middle section of the LP, “Physical” brings back the momentum from the earlier songs, and matches the whole album aesthetic and artwork just perfectly. The synth-heavy song feels like a blend between early-The 1975 paired with the guitar rock bliss of Van Halen. “Hourglass” takes a brief step back in the mid-tempo ballad realm, while “Story of a Lifetime” brings the guitars to the forefront of the production into a rewarding chorus of, “Carry me, carry me / Show me thrill or fantasy / I’m feeling lost, feeling weak, feeling bind / Carry me, carry me / ‘Cause I’ve been walking in my sleep / Feeling scared, feeling free, feeling fine / Story of a life time.”
Boys Like Girls add in some strings sections on “Brooklyn State of Mind” as Martin sings on the first verse, “All the crosses on the highway / Make a runway in the street / And just like any given Tuesday, pull up at the valet / Take me to my seat / I was born inside a black car / A little bag under my coat / We’re counting paper in the backyard throw it off the deep end / To see if it will float / Oh cause I want it all,” in a reflective manner that brings more context to the story the band wants to share. The closing ballad of “Lost in… https://chorus.fm/reviews/boys-like-girls-sunday-at-foxwoods/

Quality underground hip hop from Brooklyn, New York
Wordsworth, aka Vinson Jamel Johnson, is an MC known as a collaborator of the legendary Masta Ace and Punchline with whom he was part of the group eMC. Wordsworth has a flow and rhyme scheme that is a throwback to the Hip Hop Golden Era, both smooth and appealing to those who appreciate real artistry and lyricism. He's a storyteller who is analytical but never too complex for listeners. This latest album highlights his genius, his road to success and the ups and downs that come along the way.
Beloved returning guest Brandon Wardell and soon-to-be-fan-favorite Jamel Johnson stop by to take a look at Mexican Elves, discuss if our penises are shriveling OR growing too much & celebrate Women’s History Month by praising the men who support them. And after that lineup, we address the real question of the week: Should women date podcasters?
Jeffery Taylor was 7, Kendrea Johnson was 6, Gabriel Taye was 9, McKenzie Adams was 9, Jamel Myles was 9, Madison Whittsett was 9, Jamari Terrell Williams was 10, Seven Bridges was 10, Ashawnty Davis was 10, Kevin Reese Jr was 10, Carl Walker-Hoover was 11, Jaheem Herrera was 11, Michael Martin was 13. NEW YORK — Former three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko and undefeated upstart Jamaine Ortiz renewed acquaintances Thursday in New York City. The one-time sparring partners will clash in the 12-round lightweight main event Saturday evening at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. This fight could propel the winner to a shot at undisputed champion Devin "The Dream" Haney.
Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) returns after serving a stint in a territorial defense battalion in his native Ukraine, a decision that delayed his quest for undisputed glory. Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs) authored a career-best victory over former world champion Jamel Herring in May.
The 10-round featherweight co-features sees Cuban two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs) attempt to move closer to a title shot against late substitute Jose Matias Romero (26-2, 9 KOs).
Undercard action includes middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh (6-0, 5 KOs) and a quartet of U.S. Olympians from the Tokyo Games: silver medalists Duke Ragan (7-0, 1 KO) and Richard Torrez Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs), Tiger Johnson (5-0, 4 KOs), and Troy Isley (7-0, 4 KOs).
At the press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.
Vasiliy Lomachenko
“I feel great. I feel good. I can’t wait to come back Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. I think it’s a special place for me. I’ve had a lot of fights there. So, it’s a lucky place for me.”
“For me, it was an easy decision [to not take the George Kambosos Jr. fight] because there was a war in my country. There was a war in my hometown. I needed to stay with my family and with our people and defend our country. You don’t think about boxing. You don’t think about your future. You just think about saving your life and saving your family. That’s it.”
“I just wanted to bring a bit of sports attention to our country. And Saturday, which is Sunday morning in Ukraine, I want the people to change their mind towards good emotions.”
“Sparring [against Ortiz] is different from competition because our conditioning is not at 100 percent, so Saturday night will be a very interesting fight. I’m focused on my job. I’m focused on my boxing. You can’t stop thinking about your country. It’s always on your mind. But now I’m focused, and I need to be focused because I’m an athlete. After the fight, I’ll go back to Ukraine and support my country.”
Jamaine Ortiz
“This fight means everything to me. This is something I’ve manifested into my life, eventually fighting Lomachenko. And the time has come here at the ‘Mecca of Boxing,’ Madison Square Garden. God has delivered everything I’ve asked for.”
“I learned a lot of things about myself in the Jamel Herring fight, as I do in every fight. I try to make improvements. I go back to the basics and fundamentals and try to master those skills. Saturday night you’re going to see the best Jamaine Ortiz.”
“I think the opponent in front of you brings out the type of fighter you are. I think Lomachenko is going to bring out the best Jamaine Ortiz. The fighter that everybody around me knows. You’re going to see the real ‘Technician’ on Saturday night.”
Robeisy Ramirez
“Well, it’s not a secret that Madison Square Garden is a mythical arena for boxing. But what actually brings out the best of me is the ring, not the arena.”
“I said that ‘the train is coming and it won’t be derailed’ because I want to fight for a world title. That’s what we hope for. After this fight, we’re expecting to fight for a world title.”
Jose Matias Romero
“This was an opportunity that was given to me. I plan on taking advantage of it. It’s a pleasure to be on this stage. And I look forward to this fight. I like to do my talking in the ring, but I’ve come very well prepared, thanks to my team. We had a great camp. But I think they are underestimating me.”
“Thank God, I have a great training team. I stay training. I never stop training. I have also had experience fighting in the United States before, so this is nothing new. The opportunity was there, and thank God it happened. And on top of that, it’s happening at Madison Square Garden, so I’m very happy.”
Richard Torrez Jr.
“Being a pro has been amazing. I come from a town where there are more cows than people. So, to be at a place like Madison Square Garden is incredible. It’s incredible to be able to have my team here as well. All these guys are Olympians. There’s nothing like it.”
Nico Ali Walsh
“From the very start, I knew who I was. I think people are starting to give me my own name. So, it’s not about me finding my own name. It’s about people accepting the fact that I knew who I was from the start. I got into boxing, and I know why I got into boxing. It’s just important to pay homage to my grandfather, but I’m doing my own thing with this.”
Tiger Johnson
“Life as a pro has been good. I’m just really excited to be on a card with my Olympic teammates. I had a real good camp with Nico. We’re going to put on a really good performance. I don’t really look for the knockout. I just can’t control my power sometimes, so it is what it is.”
Duke Ragan
“It’s an honor to be able to fight on a card with my fellow Olympians. The only time we ever fought together was on the USA team. It is a great feeling to do it professionally and go up the ranks together.”
Troy Isley
“I’ve always wanted to be with Top Rank. They’ve produced a lot of legends. I’m blessed to say that I can be one of the legends in the making. My goal is to focus on boxing. I’m not really too worried about the trolls and all that. If you’ve got trolls and haters, you’re obviously doing something right.”
