Latest story from https://movietvtechgeeks.com/la-la-land-stranger-things-atlanta-sweep-2017-pga-awards/
'La La Land,' 'Stranger Things' and 'Atlanta' sweep 2017 PGA Awards
“La La Land” is easily sweeping up all the awards this year, but Netflix’s “Stranger Things” jumped in on the action along with “Atlanta” for the 28th annual Producers Guild Awards (PGA).
The musical comedy-drama went up against “Arrival,” “Deadpool,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures,”  “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea,” and “Moonlight,” but was able to come out the winner which was presented by Dustin Hoffman.
The guild recognized the candy-colored musical with its Darryl F. Zanuck Award for theatrical motion picture production Saturday, a prize that often precedes the best picture Academy Award. (Last year was an exception, when “The Big Short” won the guild award, while “Spotlight” got the Oscar.) The nominees for the guild’s top film prize echo Oscars’ best picture nominees this year, with the exception of “Deadpool,” which made the cut with producers but not the film academy.
But the guild’s celebration at the Beverly Hilton Hotel of the year’s outstanding film and television productions had a decidedly political tone, as President Donald Trump’s ban on refugees and visitors from several Muslim countries triggered protests in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and other cities.
“Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions,” singer John Legend said as he introduced “La La Land” at Saturday’s untelevised ceremony. “Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump. I want to specifically, tonight, reject his vision and affirm America has to be better than that.”
Ezra Edelman, producer and director of “O.J.: Made in America,” which claimed the guild’s documentary prize, echoed Legend’s sentiments.
“Please keep telling stories that are about our humanity,” he said.
Other winners Saturday included “Zootopia” for animated feature, “Atlanta” for episodic television comedy and “Stranger Things” for episodic TV drama.
Presenters included Justin Timberlake, Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson, Nicole Kidman, Jeff Bridges, Kerry Washington, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. Veteran producers James L. Brooks, Tom Rothman and Irwin Winkler received special awards.
Dustin Hoffman presented the night’s top prize. As producer Marc Platt accepted for “La La Land,” he said, “The power of cinema cannot be denied and has no borders … We must believe love can change our lives, much as it can change the world.”

Hollywood Producer Seeks to Raise Funds to Battle Anti-Abortion Laws
Until last week, there was near total silence from companies like Netflix, Disney and WarnerMedia. Then Mr. Sarandos, the chief content officer at Netflix, said that his company would “rethink our entire investment in Georgia” if the law went into effect. Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, said in an interview with Reuters that it would be “very difficult” to continue to make movies in Georgia if the law became a reality.
WarnerMedia said in a statement on Thursday, “We will watch the situation closely and if the new law holds we will reconsider Georgia as the home to any new productions.”
Mr. Chernin and his company’s movie chief, Jenno Topping, were outspoken from the outset, saying in a statement in mid-May that Georgia had “declared war on the rights and freedom of its women.”
Chernin Entertainment, which has produced films like “The Greatest Showman,” “Hidden Figures” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” has two major projects set for production in Georgia. One is a trilogy of films based on the “Fear Street” novels by R.L. Stein. The other is a television drama called “P-Valley” that is headed to Starz. In his fund-raising email, Mr. Chernin elaborated on his decision, announced on May 15, to continue with those plans rather than look for other shooting locales.
“Firing workers, most of whom oppose this legislation, does not seem like a just response,” Mr. Chernin wrote, adding, “Taking action against only Georgia felt like a highly narrow and targeted response to a national battle. Abandoning and isolating parts of the country that we don’t agree with strikes me as a dangerous response.”
Other Hollywood figures, including Ron Howard, J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele, have said they will keep production going in Georgia while donating to organizations like the A.C.L.U. and Fair Fight Georgia. Fair Fight Georgia is led by Stacey Abrams, the Democrat who became a national liberal icon after nearly defeating Gov. Brian Kemp in the most recent election.
Mr. Romero, the A.C.L.U.’s executive director, did not respond to a query.
Andrea Young, executive director of the A.C.L.U. of Georgia, said her organization planned to file a challenge in federal court before the end of summer, and that the complexity of the legislation accounted for the delay.

It’s an explosion of music, colours, grit, energy, joy and desire to dream that can’t disappoint you and that you don’t have to miss. The genre is not my favourite but this film, as well as not being the usual’ 50s/’ 60s musical, is abstracted from any categorisation or label, and is simply objectively beautiful and has to be seen for its ability to convey joy. The film starts with a bang, right from the first scene you would like to get up and move around the whole cinema. Hugh Jackman said that they were inspired by Steve Jobs’ Apple presentations for the opening scene and they certainly achieved their goal.
Hugh Jackman (P. T. Barnum) was born for this role, shines in his red costume with his hat, he’s fantastic in the film but also on the set, where he managed to involve everyone with his spirit and where he was able to transfer all his passion and commitment that led him to such a result. The cast is exceptional, from the protagonists to the last of the extras, and is able to transport you into a magical world, letting you escape from reality for the entire duration of the film. Keala Seattle (the bearded woman) has an exceptional talent and scenic presence, Zac Efron and Zendaya are perfect for their roles and very gifted also in singing and dancing. The energetic choreographies and songs that are very catchy and never tiring, are of a higher level than most other musicals. The costumes are, to say the least, iconic and perfect for the era in which the film is set, the costume of Hugh Jackman (and not only his) will certainly enter the history of cinema and entertainment. Lights, colours and special effects are also perfect. The plot is almost always clear and the dialogues are very good; someone could complain some shadows in the screenplay – for example in the introspection of some characters – but I think these elements are completely irrelevant especially considering that this film, as well as being a show with the capital S, is a real praise of diversity and tells and celebrates the things that are worth living for most: love, art, friendship, adventure, courage, solidarity, trust and mutual respect. The only “negative” note that we can perhaps add is that the love story between Zac Efron and Zendaya could have been a little more detailed, but I write this because it is so beautiful and well interpreted by the actors that I regret that it has not been given more importance. If you nominate the circus today it is likely that you twist your nose but in the mid-nineteenth century it was really the greatest spectacle, in which you could see the strangest things that at the time you could only admire there and really amazed; you could find many similarities between the circus of the time and the cinema of today. However, it is a film during which you don’t get bored for even a moment and suitable for everyone. Hugh Jackman is truly the biggest showman and this film is really the biggest show you can really want to see.

Recensione The Greatest Showman (voto: 5/5)
The noblest art is that of making others happy (P.T. Barnum)
