Except not only is Jet's confidence, —the thing you misinterpret as "ego"— entirely warranted due to his status as not only one of the greatest extreme gear riders in the sonic universe, who leads one of the greatest, if not the greatest, extreme gear riding teams in the sonic universe, but also one of the few authentic extreme gear riders (due to Wave’s custom, tailored-to-rider extreme gear which heavily contrasts the board shells used by the rest of the riders due to the monopoly Eggman has on the market with his multiple gear manufacturing companies throughout the games)—

But I would hardly call his many instances of humbly accepting his losses, or encouragingly complimenting his rivals when they lose, a symptom of "ego".

So, unfortunately —and as is sadly common in the sonic fandom— this is not only incorrect but also mischaracterization at it's finest. Sad!
