JAMES T KIRK, DEAD WIFE.
Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, up to 2x9
So not a lot of people are talking about this (the state of trek fandom in 2023 is such a surprise to me, having lived through 2009 especially, but also the last decade of the 1900s), so IMMA TALK ABOUT IT.
My one complaint about Strange New Worlds is that it is way too straight, but lol at me, my one very strong shippy feel is a straight pairing - let’s fucking go:
SO. THE USS ENTERPRISE SECURITY CHIEF LA’AN NOONIEN SINGH, DESCENDANT OF KHAN (from the <s>90s</i> 2020s) FELL IN LOVE WITH HER OWN EDITH KEELER IN TIME TRAVEL HIJINKS: A CAPTAIN KIRK FROM A DYSTOPIAN FUTURE WHERE HIS LIFE IS AWFUL <s>and spock hates him</s> AND HIS BROTHER IS DEAD. BUT HE IS STILL A GOOD MAN. SUCH. A GOOD. MAN.
(and specifically, he’s such a good man in that HE COMES FROM A DARK TIMELINE, he’s from SPACE!, he’s never lived in Iowa! His brother is dead! And he could be mirror kirk but he isn’t! He’s a good honorable man shaped by different traumas, and he fell in love with her because she’s a great fish out of water, holy shit, GET THAT FISH OUT OF THE WATER)
and then romulan mary queen of scots from reign shoots this Kirk dead and the GOOFY TIME TRAVEL AGENCY FROM DS9 (The Department of Temporal Investigations) is like “lol la'annie, babes, you can’t tell a soul about this” and La’an, our poor dear traumatized tightly-wound perfectionist, can only weep into her pillow.
but as the tweet by twitter user campy alien says:
Tumblr media
SO NOW SHE IS FACED CONSTANTLY WITH THE REAL JAMES TIBERIUS (tiberius? that’s the worst) KIRK and he’s not her kirk and he’s not anyone’s kirk (is he carol marcus’ kirk? ha ha not for long)
And it’s just buckets of angst (affectionate).
(re the title to this post: in the musical episode, she has a fantasy of smiling at her kirk under a white sheet in bed and WE KNOW THE TROPE, PARAMOUNT. THANKS FOR GIVING US, DEAD WIFE JAMES T KIRK. 13 out of 10, no notes.)
I think this would all be nonsense if it wasn’t for how Paul Wesley is playing Kirk (and the writers are writing Kirk) as this very GENTLE KIRK (Pine, Shatner; not defined by gentleness). He’s deeply charming and romantic and fun and yes full of himself and just a very gentle interested heroic person in the periphery of the current USS Enterprise. Makes sense that he would inherit the chair, makes sense that this Kirk would get cocky in a few years, makes sense this Kirk would fall in love with every woman he sees, <s>doesn’t yet make sense how this Kirk and this Spock would fall in love, that’s another post to make; also as your resident kirk x bones, i’m tapping my gd foot (slowly, i love m'benga!!)</s>. AND I LIKE THAT A LOT. (I live in a house divided, my wife hates him.)
Because there are knives in La’an under that tightly wound surface and there’s just a wonderful bruise there to press on. THIS KIRK IS NOT HER KIRK, AND WILL NEVER BE HER KIRK. HER KIRK IS DEAD AS IF HE NEVER EXISTED AT ALL. How do you process this and move on? Loved to see her tell Kirk about it (loved to see her christen him as Jim) and hope to see how this progresses.
Final thought (for now): La’an being a new character with a Very Famous Name; where does she end up when a changed USS Enterprise goes on its five year mission (without a security chief apparently)?

Star Trek IV: The Journey Continued
read it on AO3 at https://archiveofourown.org/works/52589551 by Atalanta_714 Five years after the end of their first five year mission, McCoy is grounded and engaged. (Finally!) Uhura is working for Section 31, although she'd rather a job that involves more peace treaties and fewer guns. Scotty is still repairing ships, while Sulu is still mourning the loss of Chekov. And Spock? Last they heard, Spock was living a life of total isolation on New Vulcan. Every year they gather in San Francisco to catch up, but this time, someone's missing. Jim. When no-one can get hold of him, they begin to worry. Turns out Jim was assigned a mission so secret and so dangerous, no-one will tell them where he went, or where to look for him. But the crew of the Enterprise have already lost too much to risk losing more, so they set off to rescue their Captain. Along the way they reunite with old friends, battle devious god-like beings, and maybe even save the Federation from a terrifying new threat... (This is basically how I imagine the mythical Star Trek 4 to look, so it's written as a film script, and also why I didn't think Chekov could be in it. This means this is basically an action movie on AO3. But don't worry shippers! They'll still be a few romantic moments.) Take Wyatt Earp as a biopic and it is a superb and fair film. Compare it to Tombstone which was more of a Western and it’s lacking the flair. However, it ends abruptly, and it is miscast. Cosner (and i am a fan) doesn’t really make a good Earp. Dennis Quaid who I am also a fan of, doesn’t make a good Doc. This was 1994, in the 80s I might have a dif...

Heaven Help Jim
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part 4
You get to see readers dislike for Carol.
Warnings: None that I know of.
The next couple of hours went by in a blur, you don't remember much. Other than the crew being sent to find the person responsible for the attack. While you were walking to the shuttle you were stopped by someone. You turn around and see that it is Carol Marcus, a friend of yours. "I am so sorry to hear about your father." She says, hugging you.
"Thank you." You respond, emotionless. You really didn't know how to respond, everyone was telling you the same thing, and while you appreciated it, you wanted to crawl into a corner and sit there for the next five years. As you started walking again, Carol followed you. You look at her and ask, "What are you doing? You are not assigned to the Enterprise."
She sighs, takes a moment, and then responds, "I don't trust my father, like you did. There's something going on."
You nod and climb aboard the shuttle. Jim notices you first and stands up to hug you. You accept it and almost start to cry in his chest, "Hey, hey, you're alright." He speaks ever so softly before he kisses your hair. "I love you."
You nod and sit beside Leonard, he takes your hand in his and gives it a squeeze. Leonard then does something rather strange, he smiles at you. Not one of his sarcastic smiles, a real genuine smile. "You alright, kid?" He asks, as he lets your hand go. You shake your head and tell him exactly how you feel.
He listens and right as he is about to respond Carol steps on board. Jim looks up at her and says, "And you are?"
"Science officer Wallace, sir."
"You requested another science officer, sir? Seems redundant now that I am back on board." Spock says, looking at Jim.
Jim shrugs and says, "The more the merrier." Carrol smiles at Jim then looks at you before sitting down.
You look at Leonard and frown, "She has to be up to no good." You whisper to him.
He looks at you and raises an eyebrow, "For the smile she threw at Jim?"
"Yes. I know her." You say, before you get interrupted by the shuttle pilot. "I'll tell you when we get to medbay." The rest of the ride to the ship, Leonard tries to examine Jim, to no avail. It makes you giggle at the two.
As soon as you get aboard the Enterprise, you kiss Jim on the cheek, "Stay safe, please." He says, kindly before kissing you. "I love you."
"I love you, too." You reply, smiling at your boyfriend. You hear Scotty grumble at Jim as you board the elevator to Medbay. When you get down there, you start getting things ready to go.
Leonard walks in and looks at you, "The damned infant." He grumbles, throwing his bag on the floor. "Refusing his damned evaluation. Ordering me to leave him alone." You raise an eyebrow and quirk your head, slightly, as your CMO rambles about your boyfriend. He looks at his desk and seemingly tries to find a paper, "Damnit!"
You giggle a little, "Doctor," you place a hand on his shoulder. Leonard sighs and sits down, "Calm down. It's Jim; that's what he does."
He glances up at you before he puts his head into his forehead. You both look at each other when Jim makes his announcement about capturing John Harrison, "To the bridge?" He asks, you nod and set what you have in your hands down and you both walk rather swiftly to the bridge.
As soon as you arrive on the bridge, you run to Jim and speak, "You're not really going down there are you?" Jim looks at you and nods, "Please be careful."
Once Jim, Spock, and Nyota are back with John, you kiss Jim's cheek and go back to the Medbay. You are on your PADD as you walk, when you run into Carol. "Y/N! Just the person I was looking for." She says, making you stop in your tracks. You turn to her and raise an eyebrow. "Do you know if Jim is seeing anyone?"
You stop for a moment. You aren't surprised by the question, you had actually had been expecting it. That didn't mean that you weren't angry. Leonard had actually been hearing about it each time you two had a couple moments together when you worked. When you open your mouth someone else speaks, "Y/N, I need you to help me check Khan over." Leonard's voice was like a bucket of cold water to get your anger in check.
"Y/N?" Carol asks, batting her eyes.
You take a look at Bones, who shakes his head, before sighing and looking at her. "I know for certain he is." You grab Leonard's hand and pull him away, grumbling. "Who the hell does she think she is?! Every guy I have ever went after, she had to go after." You turn to look at Leonard, his face makes you laugh. The good doctor actually looks a little afraid of you. "What?" You ask, finally far enough away from her.
Leonard chuckles and thinks before responding, "Heaven help Jim if you ever get into a fight."
A/N: Sorry this took so long. I'm still not used to working at 6 am.

Serendipity & Coincidence (11/11) - NEW CHAPTER
And here it is, the last chapter, with what might just be the biggest coincidence of them all... I hope you all enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it!
Serendipity & Coincidence - Bones knows one thing: he likes Dr. Molly Hooper and doesn’t want his friendship with her to change…even if the voice in the back of his head says he’d like more than just a friendship with the female Starfleet officer. But a dare from Jim leads to more than he had expected and certainly more than he wanted…or could ever have hoped for.
READ CHAPTER 1 | READ CHAPTER 11 | HELP ME SURVIVE? | COMMISSION ME? | BUY ME A KOFI? | MY PATREON
Three Years Later
“You didn’t tell him, did you?”
“No. You didn’t tell Carol, right?”
“Not a word.” Leonard brought up their joined hands and kissed his wife’s knuckles. The marriage wasn’t new by any means but he loved doing or saying anything with the word “wife” in reference to Molly. And as often as she said “husband,” she must have enjoyed the change in title as well. It had been quick, done before their friends had gone back up in the Enterprise, and they’d settled into a life in San Francisco with Joanna and some peace and quiet. Jim chatted him up often enough via video link that he never really had a chance to miss his friend, but he’d wanted to keep the news of Molly’s pregnancy a secret until he could tell everyone in person.
Not like they could really hide it, with her being due nearly any day now.
“Now we just have to hope Jo here didn’t say anything,” Leonard said, looking over at his daughter.
“My lips were zipped, Daddy,” she said with a smile. The Enterprise was going to be on the ground for six months this time, so there would be plenty of chances for them all to spend time together, but he knew the next time it went up in space, Jo would be on board in the medical bay and he couldn’t be prouder. Jim and Carol and everyone had been sad to miss her graduation from the Academy, but it was worth it to be commissioned onto the Enterprise upon its return.
The shuttle landing bay opened and Leonard saw many familiar faces among those leaving the Enterprise, but he knew Jim and the others were going to be on the last shuttle. After getting their fair share of good wishes on their upcoming blessing, the last shuttle unboarded and finally Jim, Carol and James came walking out…
...and it was obvious they had their own secret.
“Okay, this is just serendipity or something,” Carol said with a laugh as she touched her own expanded belly as they approached Leonard and Molly and Joanna. “We wanted to surprise you!”
“Trust us, we’re surprised,” Leonard said, leaning over to kiss her cheek. “Jim’s doing?” She nodded and then he spotted his friend’s hand. “Dammit, I was supposed to be the best man!”
“Trust us, when we tell you the whole story, you’ll wonder how we got into that predicament in the first place,” Jim said. “But congratulations! When are you due, Molly?”
“Any day now,” she said. “So you’re just in time.”
“I call dibs on godfather,” Jim said.
“That was already the plan,” Leonard said, rolling his eyes. “We’ve got a lot to tell you, and I’m sure you’ve got a lot to tell us. We’ve got reservations.”
Spock and Uhura came up to the five of them and Spock’s eyes widened a bit. “Fortuitous blessings have taken place, it seems.”
“Oh boy, do I have news for you,” Uhura said, and if it was at all possible, Spock’s eyes got even wider. She scooped up James and balanced him on her hip as the assorted friends shared a laugh before heading to have a proper reunion. Leonard took Molly’s hand again and realized that the fortune teller had been right all that time ago, and damn if his life wasn’t still full of serendipity & coincidence these days.

Taking Smut Drabble Requests
I’m currently in quarantine for flu symptoms and unable to go anywhere for another week and a bit yet, but I’m starting to feel a little better and now I’m getting bored.  As such, I’ve decided to try my hand at drabbles.
Try being the operative word.
I’m a bit out of practice and my head is foggy from the congestion, but I’m in the mood to give a bit of writing a shot.
The rules for requests are as follows:
No anonymous requests - I need to know who you are and that you are over 18 before I write for you.  If you would like your name not to be attached to the story, just say so in your request and I will post it separately from your ask.
You must be following me - as with other writers, I get little enough feedback for my work these days that I’m not about to start writing for someone who can’t even bother to follow.
One request per person - if this goes well I may open it up for a second round, but for now I’m just trying to get my feet wet.
Choose one character (for reader insert) or pairing and one prompt.  For reader inserts, please let me know if you prefer a reader with a penis or vagina.  By default, I try to write my reader inserts without pronouns so that everyone can feel included, but knowing which parts you’d prefer I use for this type of fic will be very helpful!
Fandoms and prompts below the cut.
Choose a Fandom:
Star Trek AOS: Leonard McCoy, Jim Kirk, Carol Marcus, Christine Chapel, McKirk, McChapel, McCarol. Star Trek Enterprise: Trip Tucker. Almost Human: John Kennex. Supergirl: Alex Danvers, Lena Luthor, AgentCorp. Once Upon a Time: Killian Jones. Lucifer: Lucifer Morningstar. Shadowhunters: Malec. Rizzoli & Isles: Kent Drake, Maura Isles, Kent x Maura. Undeniable - Chapter 1: Zin’s Dilemma - Khan Noonien Singh x OC
Tumblr media
Summary: During the court trial of Khan after the events of Into Darkness, Enterprise security chief Zinalya begins to develop a realisation relating to him, causing her to come up against a hefty dilemma.
"By the power vested in the body by the constitution of the United Federation of Planets, we call this trial to order."
It was a week after the USS Enterprise crew’s ordeal against the man previously known as John Harrison; a week after he had revealed his real name to be Khan Singh, successfully exacted his revenge upon Admiral Alexander Marcus for the suffering he’d been through because of the latter and been pursued through the city of San Francisco by a then-enraged Spock.
Soft, cold white morning light gently shone through the tall glass windows around the room and into the court where the senior officers of this aforementioned ship were gathered, sitting in the seating stands at the back with dozens of other people in attendance while currently wearing their dress uniforms.
"Guards, bring forth the defendant."
In stepped the man of the moment himself from the doors at the very back of the courtroom, his forearms shackled together by a pair of metallic manacles and being accompanied on all sides by a group of security guards, clutching their rifles fiercely.
"The defendant will remain restrained and under guard for the duration of the trial." Said the judge. Khan was now the centre of everyone’s attention behind him, especially the Enterprise group, and even more especially captain Kirk, commander Spock, Dr. Marcus and lieutenant-commander Zinalya Hamilton, the ship’s security chief who was a half-and-half hybrid between a human and a Trill.
She had long, dark burgundy hair stretching down behind her shoulders, hazel-green eyes and, due to this half Trill lineage, some of this race’s spots on either side of her body, from the top of her forehead down to her neck; in addition, her human parent was from Manitoba, making Zinalya herself a Canadian on this half. "Please state your full name for the record."
"My name is Khan Noonien Singh." He replied, as always in his baritone voice which felt to those around him as if it was reverberating through the floor itself. Some of these others sitting behind him in the audience felt themselves subconsciously shiver at the sound of it.
The Enterprise officers who had been around Khan the most during the previous week spent the following minutes of the trial, after his charges had been covered and discussed, being called on to give testimony as witnesses. Three of these included Spock, Carol and Jim, and then came Zinalya’s turn. "And you were the main officer in charge of overseeing and guarding the defendant, Miss Hamilton?"
"Yes, your honour." She nodded her head. "As the ship’s chief of security I kept watch over him myself some of the time and also arranged where and when he’d be guarded by the other security officers onboard."
"It says here in your report which you submitted to Starfleet command that you spent the two days during his detainment on the Enterprise visiting and conversing with him. Is this true?"
"It is, yes." Ignoring the slight but rising nervousness in the back of her throat, she answered the query truthfully while turning her head to the left to briefly look at the Augment, who was gazing back without any clear outward emotion but with recognition towards her after this time they'd spent talking, him in his clinically white brig cell and her on the other side of the glass. "I was talking to him about his motivations and reasons for his charges."
She knew that she hadn't committed any actual crimes, but she knew that any indication of her getting friendly with Khan would be dangerous to her career and to some of her friendships amongst the other senior officers. Her social standing was one of the things she valued, and friendships could sometimes be a fragile thing indeed.
"Did he tell you anything that he revealed to Mr. Kirk and Mr. Spock later on?"
"Only that he was genetically engineered and that he’d come from very far away, but nothing that was any more specific than that." She subconsciously felt another growing lump in her throat at the memory of when he later revealed his true identity to Spock and their captain; when he told them about what Admiral Marcus had done to incur his wrath and started crying, right there and then. Zinalya would have been downright lying if she said that the sight of the tear on his cheek when he turned back around and the desperation in his voice at that time didn’t tug at her own heartstrings, even if it was just a little bit. "He was very brief during those moments when I was talking to him alone."
"So he didn’t make any clear indication to you individually that he had come from three centuries ago or indicate what he was planning on doing?
"No your honour." If she was being honest with herself, she actually felt like most of what Khan did after his prison cell revelation consisted of on-the-spot decisions: she wasn’t present to see it taking place, but from the way she understood it, he only attacked Kirk, Scotty and Carol on the bridge of the Vengeance after the former ordered Khan to be stunned, making himself, too, come across as untrustworthy in the latter’s eyes, and the following incident where he fought against Spock in the city was him taking out his rage and anguish due to being led to believe that his crew had all died when the seventy-two torpedoes were detonated, so she also couldn’t help but feel like Khan had been through quite the emotional rollercoaster.
"Very well then. Thank you lieutenant-commander, that will be all." The judge concluded his series of questions directed at her, to which she gave a nod and, after giving another brief look at the man with the smooth black hair and snakelike pale turquoise eyes, walked back towards where she’d been sitting, which was in between Scotty and Chekov, her two closest friends. "Dr. Leonard Herman McCoy, step forward please."
As this chief medical officer stood up and made his own way down through the seating area towards the witness stand, Scotty smiled jokingly at Zinalya and Pavel, who were on his left. "I didn’t know his middle name was Herman - obviously something we can conveniently tease the laddie about later." He whispered to them with a chuckle, to which they both nodded and the latter smiled.
The female one of the trio, however, tried to smile along with them and join in but found it to be difficult, because her head was full of various thoughts and ponderings relating to the defendant to the point where it was now taking up a large majority of her consciousness itself. He briefly craned his head around and looked around the room, like a cornered animal surveying its surroundings, before his eyes came to rest on her.
"Zinalya?" Pavel’s voice caught her attention to her own left hand side, seeming to notice her expression of deep thought. "Are you alright?"
"What? Oh, yeah, yeah I'm okay, I was just miles away for a second there." She answered, temporarily bringing herself back to what was going on around her at that second as opposed to all the hypotheticals and questions racing through her mind. Khan had now turned his head back into the forward-facing position, occasionally looking at Bones as the latter gave his own testimony.
Generally subdued rock music played as the ambience of the club that Zinalya was sitting in later that evening. She had a glass of Scotch whisky gripped absentmindedly in her right hand, both of which currently resting on the bar whilst her other hand held her head, which was somewhat tilted to one side, and she was repeating the same thing she was in the middle of earlier in the courtroom: thinking and pondering endlessly on the mental predicament she found herself in.
She was torn between two viewpoints, not entirely certain which one to take and therefore keeping herself stressed as it was an unresolved issue. On the one hand, she knew full well as much as anyone else what Khan had done and the kind of things he'd gotten up to - causing the deaths of numerous people, including Admiral Pike and even the obviously now-revived Kirk - but on the other, she wondered whether he truly deserved the extent of Spock's aggression that he was subjected to during the city chase.
It was as if she had split herself into two totally different people altogether, one telling her that there was more to Khan underneath his chilling exterior, and that she didn't properly know what he was like in actuality, and the other constantly reminding her of the people he had killed and the acts he had committed.
"Hey." She turned her head around upon hearing the voice of her captain himself speak out. Jim appeared to be accompanied by Carol and lieutenant Uhura, all three of them dressed in casual clothes like the burgundy-haired hybrid herself was. "D'you mind if we join you?"
"No, go ahead."
Captain Kirk and the other two female officers with him all sat down adjacent to her at the bar, him and Carol on her right and Nyota on her left. "I used to come here a few times too. I actually still remember a fight I got into in this place a few years back - admiral Pike called it an ‘epic beating’." He chuckled fondly at these memories, although behind his smile Zinalya could also tell that it was simultaneously a slightly poignant expression and she, too, was affected by it.
Great, she thought. I’m trying to make sense of all this, to decide what I really think, and Pike is getting brought up again. Just when I thought I was making some kind of progress in thinking it over...
"Mr. Chekov told us that you seemed distant earlier today. Is something wrong?" Carol asked, noticing her own small change of expression.
"Well..." The half Trill-half human was up against a case of trying to work out how exactly to word what she was going to say. "To be honest I’m kind of in the middle of a dilemma."
"What is it?" Said Nyota.
She paused, taking another of these moments where she formed the words in her head. "I’ve got a decision I need to make soon, and it might be one that takes me off the Enterprise and to someplace else."
"You mean like a transfer?" Said Jim.
The real reason for Zinalya possibly having to leave her posting in the near future wasn’t this and was instead something very, very different, but she could neither bring herself to tell the three the truth nor lie to them, so she simply nodded her head without giving a verbal response. "I don’t want to leave, because I still have friends onboard, and because my parents and brothers are here on Earth and where I’ll be going to is pretty far away. But it’s also a chance that means a lot to me and that I don’t want to pass up, so I feel like I’m being pulled in two different directions... and I basically have no idea which choice to make."
The trio around her thought for a second, before Carol enquired, "Have you weighed up the good and bad sides of them both?"
"At least somewhere around a thousand times, yeah."
"Then I think you should go with what your instincts are telling you - if accepting this chance is what you want to do, then you should do it." The woman with the chin length blonde hair nodded encouragingly.
"She’s right: do what makes you happy." Concurred lieutenant Uhura.
"So... you guys will be okay with it if I do choose to leave? Things’ll still be alright between us?"
"Of course."
"You’re a good friend to us and the others." Added Jim with a reassuring smile. "We’ll be a little sad to see you go, but you deserve to make that choice if you’re sure you wanna do it. We’ll be rooting for you the whole way, Zin."
This supportive demeanour that he, Nyota and Carol were making use of towards her made her wish even more that she could tell them what the true reason for her leaving was, and what she was really planning to do.

Headcanon
Jim and Carol keep their (mostly long distance) relationship a secret from the rest of the crew (except for Uhura, Spock, and Bones) and Scotty gets the surprise of his life when there’s a commotion during Jim’s surprise party and he looks over to see Jim being kissed senseless by Dr. Marcus, who has been very worried about him and needed to express her deep relief at his continued existence. Spock sees it and inwardly sighs at the shamelessness of humans, while also kicking himself for his earlier decision to end things with Uhura and wondering if she would be receptive to a second attempt at courtship. Given the way she looks at him, he calculates the odds at 80.2%.
Bones mutters “Dammit, Jim. I did NOT need to see that!” under his breath and tries to distract the gawkers to give the two some privacy.
Jim is beside himself with joy and clings to Carol like a drowning man, trying to keep from bursting into tears at the onslaught of all the emotions of the last few days. He’s never seen anything more beautiful than her.
Carol caresses Jim’s battered face and tries to kiss the bruises better. She didn’t realize how much she missed him until he was almost taken from her.
“Do you like your birthday surprise?” She asks, buying time for him to regain his composure.
“I love it,” Jim says softly, bright blue eyes fixed on hers. “I love YOU, Carol. My one comfort through this all was knowing you were safe, at least.”
“You had me scared to death, love,” she replies. “One day you’ll run out of lives and then what do I do? No more dying, please, dear.”
“I wish I could promise that,” Jim sighs, looking down at her wistfully. “But you know how it is. Having you around more in the future might help,” he hints.
“We’ll see what we can do about that, darling,” Carol says, with a mysterious smile that Jim thinks bodes well for them.
