Eine Wiese voller Schachbrettblumen bei Bremen

Nicht weit weg von Bremen sind wir unterwegs im Naturschutzgebiet Juliusplate. Direkt neben dem gleichnamigen Campingplatz und dem Fähranleger, der das niedersächsische Berne mit dem bremischen Blumenthal verbindet, gibt es einen magischen Ort für ein besonderes Naturerlebnis. Hier wachsen auf drei Wiesen die einzigen wilden Schachbrettblumen bei Bremen.

Das Naturschutzgebiet (NSG) Juliusplate Die Juliusplate ist eine ehemalige Weserinsel, die durch die Begradigung der Unterweser (Weserkorrektion) im 19. Jahrhundert zu einem Teil des linken Weserufers wurde. Seit Dezember 2007 steht das Gebiet unter Naturschutz. Das NSG ist heute Teil des FFH-Gebietes "Nebenarme der Weser mit Strohauser Plate und Juliusplate“. Das Gebiet stellt ein naturnahes, tidebeeinflusstes Überschwemmungsgebiet im Vorlandbereich des Weserdeiches unter Schutz. Wir finden hier als typische Lebensräume  Röhrichte, Auwaldreste und Feuchtgebüsche, Grünlandflächen, Priele und Flusswatten und  Stillgewässer. Hier finden wir auch eine - genauer gesagt sind es sogar drei - Wiese voller Schachbrettblumen.

Eine Wiese voller Schachbrettblumen bei Bremen Schon der Name Schachbrettblume klingt nach wahrer Prosa. Erst recht ihr lateinischer Name: Fritillaria melleagris. Schon von der Straße aus sind die dunklen Blüten deutlich zu sehen. Am Beginn der Feldwege warnen Hinweisschilder deutlich davor, die Wiesen zu betreten. Denn nicht umsonst ist das Gebiet hier als Naturschutzgebiet ausgewiesen. Natürlich halten wir uns an diese Regeln. Aber auch vom Wegesrand sind mehr als genug der Pflanzen zu sehen. Das Farbmuster der Blüten gab der Schachbrettblume ihren Namen. An der Juliusplate ist die häufigste Form die rot-violette Blume, die zusammen mit weißen Tönen wie ein Schachbrett gemustert ist. Daneben gibt es aber auch die selteneren rein-weißen Blüten. Ihr natürliches Verbreitungsgebiet hat diese Pflanze von der Normandie über Mittel- und Südfrankreich, die Alpenvorländer, über Ungarn, Kroatien und Serbien bis nach Rumänien. Hier bei uns im Norden ist sie eigentlich ungewöhnlich. Angeblich sollen diese Pflanzen hier aus einem alten Apothekergarten stammen. Da die Schachbrettblume giftige Stoffe enthält, erscheint mir diese Herkunft logisch. Denn traditionell haben Apotheker schon immer Pflanzen aus aller Welt gesammelt und auf ihren medizinischen Nutzen hin untersucht. Für die Schachbrettblume hat man aber wohl bisher noch keine pharmazeutische Wirkung finden können. Viele, heute (ver)wild(ert) lebende Bestände sind aus früheren Anpflanzungen entstanden. Über solche - auch Stinsenpflanzen genannte - Arten habe ich im Beitrag 1 Million Krokusse blühen in Bremen-Oberneuland  geschrieben. Im Allgemeinen fühlt sich die Schachbrettblume auf Feucht- und Nasswiesen, in Auwäldern und Flussauen wohl. Diese Lebensräume findet die Pflanze hier auf der Juliusplate. Sie liebt es feucht, verträgt aber auch keine Staunässe. In Deutschland gilt die Pflanze als stark gefährdet und steht unter Naturschutz. Die grösste Bedrohung liegt im Verschwinden der Feuchtwiesen und den übermässigen Nährstoffeintrag durch die Landwirtschaft. Die Schachbrettblume ist eine Lichtpflanze. Sie gedeiht am besten im vollen Sonnenlicht und verträgt keinen Schatten. Sie blüht im Frühjahr im April bis Mai bis die umgebenden Gräser an Höhe gewinnen und das ganze Areal überwuchern. Die Vermehrung erfolgt über Samen und Brutzwiebeln. Hummeln und Bienen sind wichtige Bestäuber. Botanische Bestimmungshilfen Natürlich wachsen hier im Naturschutzgebiet der Juliuspflanze nicht nur Schachbrettblumen. Auch weitere botanische Kostbarkeiten sind hier zu finden. Da ich mich in der Botanik nicht so wirklich auskenne, greife ich gern bei mir unbekannten Arten auch auf botanische Bestimmungshilfen zurück. Bei mir im Bücherregal steht dazu auch einige Literatur. Nur habe ich selten diese Bücher mit auf Exkursion oder Wanderung. Mittlerweile gibt es aber Handys und mit denen kamen auch einige Programme zur Pflanzenbestimmung. Für Apple's Iphone kann ich das global verteilte Gemeinschaftsprojekt Pl@ntNet empfehlen. Einfach mit dem Smartphone die Pflanze fotografieren, das Bild in das Programm laden und die Datenbank liefert Vorschläge für den Namen. Auch iNaturalist der California Academy of Sciences und der National Geographic Society ist ein sehr mächtiges, dennoch kostenfreies Bestimmungsprogramm. Apples eigene Foto-App bietet aber mittlerweile ebenfalls eine einfache Bestimmungshilfe. Einfach ebenfalls ein Foto der Pflanze machen und unter Information kann man sich dann mittels der Funktion Nachschlagen die Pflanzenart anzeigen lassen. Mit den von mir getesteten Fotos habe ich eine Trefferquote von 100% erreicht! Für Android gibt es neben der App Pl@ntNet das kostenlose Programm Flora Incognita der Technischen Universität Ilmenau und des Max-Planck-Instituts für Biogeochemie. Eine ganze Wiese voller #Schachbrettblume finden wir ganz in der Nähe von #Bremen auf der #Juliusplate Zwischen Mitte April und Mitte Mai können Besucher die Blüte der Liliengewächse im Außendeichsgelände erleben. Dass aus der Art eine botanische Rarität geworden ist, verwundert nicht, denn der natürliche Lebensraum der Schachbrettblumen sind Flussauen. Die Blumen lieben zeitweilige Überschwemmungen und wechselnde Wasserstände. In Deutschland kommt die Pflanzenart nur noch auf wenigen kleinen Standorten vor. In Niedersachsen findet man sie neben der Juliusplate nur noch an einer anderen Stelle, im Junkernfeld an der Elbe nördlich von Winsen.
