La primera mujer que se tituló en una profesión en América Latina fue una dentista mexicana: Margarita Chorné y Salazar.

Margarita Chorné y Salazar, Nació el 22 de febrero de 1864, fue hija de Agustín Chorné, practicante de la orfebrería y la “dentistería” quien llegó a ser uno de los más famosos dentistas de la ciudad. Él era descendiente de franceses, la madre de Margarita fue doña Paz Salazar, dedicada al hogar. Vivían en el barrio de San Miguel en el centro histórico de la ciudad de México, eran una familia de posición social media-alta.

Margarita al igual que sus hermanas, aprendió a leer y escribir, recibieron clases de música, en el colegio aprendieron el catecismo, la aritmética, geografía, francés, y labores propias de mujeres como tejido de gancho y bordado de punto de cruz. Pero al parecer Margarita no le encontró el gusto a estas labores ni le gustaba del todo las reuniones femeninas que no le satisfacían; lo que Margarita disfrutaba era encerrarse durante horas en la biblioteca de su padre y aprender de sus libros, también le gustaba acompañarlo a los conciertos y funciones de ópera.

Observando el trabajo de su padre, Margarita empezó a conocer y a practicar el arte de la orfebrería y también gustaba de ayudar a su padre cuando tenía trabajo de dentista, de igual manera fue ayudante de su hermano mayor una vez que éste se convirtió en dentista. Había para Margarita muchas oportunidades de adquirir el conocimiento para llegar a ser una buena dentista, pues no tan sólo era limitado el número de dentistas en esa época sino que también en aquellos tiempos, era una loable costumbre de los dentistas y médicos que de verdad amaban su profesión y veían en ella no sólo una profesión con la cual ganarse la vida, sino una vocación de servicio al prójimo, atender gratuitamente a los pobres que no podían pagar su consulta pero que la necesitaban igual que los ricos, dedicando para ellos estos buenos médicos un día a la semana u horas extras cuando la urgencia lo ameritaba.

Con los conocimientos y la práctica que Margarita había obtenido siendo asistente tanto de su padre como de su hermano, un día decidió buscar el reconocimiento de los estudios realizados en su casa y conseguir el título oficial para ejercer como dentista en la ciudad de México.

Fue en el antiguo Colegio de Medicina, a los 21 años de edad, que Margarita tendría que demostrar que sabía el oficio, que dominaba satisfactoriamente el conocimiento fisiológico, anatómico y tecnológico y que podría ejercer al igual que lo hacía cualquier dentista ya titulado.

Para conseguir ese anhelado título, Margarita consiguió una carta de un dentista profesional que avaló sus conocimientos, así mismo tuvo que presentar cartas de tres personas de reconocida solvencia moral que certificaran que Margarita era una persona decente y cristiana. Margarita tuvo que pagar 100 pesos, que era el costo del examen (una cantidad por cierto muy elevada ya que la extracción de una muela en ese entonces costaba aproximadamente un peso)

Ante la gran expectación que seguramente se dio en esa época de que una mujer pidiera recibir el título profesional de dentista, Margarita se presentó ante el jurado y ante ellos citó de memoria los últimos tratados dentísticos en inglés, español y francés. Así pues, fue en la época porfirista cuando el 1 de febrero de 1886, fecha memorable, la Junta Directiva de Instrucción Pública del Distrito Federal emitió el primer título profesional de dentista a una mujer en América Latina, a Margarita Chorné y Salazar. Un año después otra notable mujer mexicana recibiría su doctorado en medicina, la primera mujer mexicana en obtenerlo, ella era Matilde Montoya.

En 1906, Margarita Chorné y Salazar, orgullosamente mexicana, recibió la noticia de que la embajada de Francia le entregó la Cruz al Mérito y en 1908 por parte del Institut du Midi en Tolouse, Francia, un diploma y una medalla en reconocimiento por ser la primera mujer titulada en una profesión independiente en Latinoamérica.

Según un informe de la Historia de la Odontología, Margarita fue la primera dentista en dedicarse a la cirugía y en aplicar el éter en la anestesia general.

Margarita Chorné se casó y ejerció su carrera durante aproximadamente cuatro décadas, con una vida longeva y dedicada al servicio de los demás, murió en 1962, a los 98 años de edad.

Actualmente existe el premio “Doctora Margarita Chorné y Salazar” que lo otorga la Facultad de Odontología de la UNAM y en México hay un Centro de Salud que lleva su nombre.

watching the moments before the infamous junta directiva and I hate Marcela. To think I ever tried to like her. She hates Betty, and her hatred blinds her. They are discussing, it all starts with Betty saying it'll take 10 mins to get the things ready, and for every word that comes out of Betty's mouth she utters another twenty, Betty is standing up for herself finally, making it clear for Marcela that she's not having her shit, and Marcela stands there dumbfounded for a second until she finds something to say, and she keeps talking back no matter how stupid she sounds just because she doesn't want Betty to have the last word, and because she hates her.

I read you think Freddy knew about Armando and Betty or at least suspected something weird was going on (Wilson most likely too). At Inesita’s house, it was obvious that something was happening to Armando and it had to do with Betty, but the night at the bar the day she returned to Ecomoda, do you think Freddy suspected that Armando had feelings for Betty? We, as the audience, know that everything Freddy said about having a loved one looking more beautiful than ever and picturing them with someone else at that very moment was painful, which voiced out loud exactly what Armando was thinking judging by his reactions, but do you think Freddy picked up on that?

El Cuartel should have discussed this piece of gossip with Freddy because they notice Betty is being really cold with Armando and know they definitely had a falling out, but Freddy knows for a fact that Armando supports her presidency and admires her a lot, and also gets really defensive about her (well they all know that because they saw how upset he became with the dude that wanted to dance with Betty who wouldn’t take no for an answer). Anyways, I just can’t believe they didn’t suspect anything sooner. I guess this is one of the most unbelievable parts tbh or how about when Armando went insane trying to contact Betty when they told him she was gonna quit and yet they still didn’t think his feelings were genuine? Even after they found out he broke up with Marcela for good, didn’t do anything with Alejandra, not even Inesita, of all people, dared to think he was jealous for real? (She does pick up on this later when she sees his desperation, but not before he had a breakdown and destroyed Mario’s office). I’ve seen people say Armando and Mario share one brain cell, but also El Cuartel sometimes 😂

I can't take credit for the Freddy knowing addition, one of my mutuals added that and i had to go back the episode to confirm. And also super agree(!!). If Freddy suspected it at Inesita's house, then the scene in bar the night of Betty's return confirms it. let me get the caps:

like why is freddy saying 'y, usted?' for? he knows that something happened between them but freddy is discrete. (like, everyone at ecomoda knows about armando's infidelities towards marcela, why wouldn't Freddy, who takes care of armando's car, has access to armando's apartment and probably took care of that dog that disappeared---why wouldn't he know about betty and armando?). he's the closest employee to armando that's not betty.

going back to the bar convo--yes i think Freddy picked up on it, lol.

el curatel was never gonna discuss that with freddy bc, well they didnt know he had important information, but also bc he was only sometimes an honorary member. they themselves wouldn't have discussed this with freddy bc they would say its not his business. (son cosas de mujeres). cuartel loves gossip but they're hit and miss with their investigations. they never suspected be The Quiet One to be having an affair with her boss (this aside from the fact that Betty is 'ugly' (we know she isn't but thats how they perceive her).

Bertha is actually the closest person in el cuartel to finding out about the affair. She literally saw them leave the exhibit together and Armando shut her down quick from saying anything to Marcela. So it's very convenient that she gets sent away bc of her pregnancy right when everything at la junta directiva is coming to light. convenient also that her return to ecomoda is also the day that betty returns to ecomoda. the one person that could have pieced part of it together while armando was on a binge and betty was away, was also missing in action.

Regarding when not believing Armando and not telling him where Betty is--I think part of it is that they know what he did and that doesn't exactly give them incentive to help him (on top of Betty giving instructions not to tell him). At least that's how Aura Maria feels about it, bc she's the one who doesn't waver and also the last one to support Armando at the end (I mean the eps of the arrival of Michel).

They're not completely dumb bc whenever Betty is sad or upset, they notice it but they never know the reason why bc Betty wont tell them. Tho they're heart is often times in the right place, they're very nosey and get caught very easily. That's why Betty doesn't tell them everything. (probably why Freddy doesnt either).

las vacaciones de verano están en su esplendor con los días soleados en la universidad, poblada como nunca durante estos días por que es una ocasión especial. falta poco para el VOUGHT HERO DRAFT 2024 , evento esperado por todo aquel a punto de graduarse de GOD U.

entrenamientos sin parar, redes sociales entre estudiantes estallando, incluso apuestas clandestinas, pues de los triunfantes de esta competencia será los nuevos integrante de THE SEVEN ( luego de la desaparición de TRANSLÚCIDO y la separación de THE DEEP ) . además, las ciudades de MIAMI, NUEVA ORLEANS y LOS ANGELES están en búsqueda de sus nuevos héroes, todo traído gracias a VOUGHT a sus pantallas y hogares . dejate llevar por el furor del campo de practicas y la competencia entre los mas habilidosos ( ¿incluyendote? ) , un espectáculo que tendras muy cerca.

aparte, no deben olvidar que la universidad sigue su calendario académico sin pausa. los días de pagos, recorrido para los nuevos ingresantes, la matrícula de cursos, etc. pero nada fuera de lo común para un estudiante universitario en nueva york.
