When seeing comments and reactions to Kaeya's hangout, I read sometimes how nice is to see that everyone in the Winery loves Kaeya, except Diluc because they're still in bad terms.

But like, have you skipped the part where Diluc gave Kaeya some bottles of wine that he wanted even after Kaeya literally tried to trick him and he knew?

Yeah, Diluc used the gift as an excuse to give the wine to him, that's how it works with them, but I'm sure he would have ended up giving it to Kaeya regardless.

And if you talk to him later, he even tells you that if you need to know anything about how the winery works you can ask Kaeya, showing that he trusts him and he doesn't have a problem with Kaeya being there.

Diluc's not treating him badly, Eizer even outright tells us that he's just being tsundere. Because when Kaeya was worried that Diluc would complain if Eizer gave him a whole barrel, Eizer was like "Not at all, he may complain but he wouldn't mind."

So yeah, they're just in their own terms. It's awkward to see each other, but there is no ill intent.

Kaeya is wonderful in a sense that he:

Has a penmanship described as "Beautiful Handwriting". He for sure worked on that.

Willingly spends his time making sure his outfit looks perfect

Is well-loved by Mondstadt and the Dawn Winery staff

Is described to like a prince, both in looks and in actions

Is shown to be gentle and caring to children and elderly, most seen with Klee and the staff from Dawn Winery

Is a great listener and, therefore, also knows what gifts to buy based off of something someone said in passing

Is predominantly kind- unafraid to help out and defend someone in need. His first reaction is always kindness, and worry about covering up that kindness later on

But Kaeya also has his moments where he:

Says things out of pocket with enough alcohol in his system. Things that usually lead to shame and regret.

Would rather give others the credit for his hard work if he could help it

Intentionally makes himself look suspicious by withholding information and only throwing tidbits that are not of substance

Has sadist tendencies, which affects how he treats both his (cavalry) company and his enemies

Can and will use underhanded tactics to gain the upper hand

Rarely ever says what he truly wants to say

Has a fake smile. Usually lies or only deals with half truths.

He is such a complex character. I really do want people to appreciate him and his intricacies more. The fact that his entire personality and story is done so well and continues to actually grow and expand as the story progresses is something that genuinely makes me want to keep watch of him. I have never, in all my fandoms, stuck to a character as long as I did with Kaeya, and honestly? I know I'm not alone with this.

Venti having to routinely gently argue with the people of Mondstadt whenever they try to pay tribute to Barbados’s “spirit of freedom” in a way that contradicts with Venti’s actual ideal of freedom is so unbelievably funny. He’s like. I love you all. I’m glad you’re passionate about this. But your church of worship is creating some very interesting fanon mischaracterization about Barbados here. He would not say that

i can't get my mind off of kaeya's hangout. kaeya's unending thoughtfulness and kindness. kaeya thinking of everyone from back home while he was away, missing them and going out of his way to get all of them personalized gifts. kaeya missing his family and them missing him even more. kaeya directly quoting shakespeare and thus pleasing my classic lit enthusiast self. adelinde answering the long debated question of which ragnvindr sibling was a little menace and which was the one following said menace in every step (turns out i was right amongst many who thought the same). kaeya most certainly knowing of venti's identity and venti struggling to keep his act up around him. kaeya getting albedo and klee matching gifts, a set, further emphasizing their great found family bond and his own belonging to it. crepus indulging in kaeya's shenanigans and making him his own semi-alcoholic drink as a treat. kaeya playing all the characters (the bandit, the prince...) without needing to stay in character, for it is he himself that speaks from them. adelinde knowing exactly how kaeya likes his food. kaeya - unable to get diluc's name out of his mouth - alberich. my personal headcanon of kaeya being fond of birds (enjoying birdwatching and singing to them) proving to be true. diona wanting to curse every drunkard with anemo archon's wrath not knowing that her beloved archon is a drunkard himself. kaeya's endearing and genuine love for people and being around them. the foreshadowing for kaeya's own story in the play he acted in and him admitting it resonates with him deeply, thus explaining why he knows it by heart. kaeya canonically embodying his nickname 'prince charming' and serving as an eye candy for many. kaeya's wish to rid himself of the shackles of fate, to rise above it and challenge his destiny. kaeya proudly stating his connection to diluc and crepus, without batting an eye. adelinde reminding him that he has always been one of their own, and that he always shall be. kaeya dancing the night away in a land far from home and having genuine fun. hoyoverse giving us a jeanlisa, kaebedo and kaejean moment all in the same scene. kaeya's and klee's shared childlike wonder and mutual understanding. kaeya revealing the secret behind the coin he constantly plays with. diluc memorizing every lie and excuse of kaeya's that he uses to spend time and indulge in pleasure in his rightful home. kaeya subtly implying that he only acts part-time currently (if you understand what i'm hinting at). the ending 'the grapes of warmth' being a reference to steinbeck's 'the grapes of wrath', once again pleasing my nerdy ass. diluc being protective over his staff and dawn winery family. kaeya being a typical younger sibling and taking every chance to tease the older one. venti sneezing around diona. klee's misunderstanding of the events surrounding kaeya making the situation twice as wholesome. kaeya, once more, doing everything in his power to help jean and make her work life easier. kaeya knowing the schedule of the winery staff members and diluc despite not being around as much. diluc willing to openly display another one of kaeya's gifts inside the winery. adelinde serving us a ragbros childhood story along with a nice, home-cooked meal each time we meet her. kaeya being a beloved son not only to his adoptive father, but to many. diluc's staff trying to cover for his darknight hero vigilante persona as if kaeya doesn't know about it. kaeya helping out the people in need, out of the good of his heart, no questions asked and not needing anything in return. the ragbros nation predicting plenty of scenarios, one of them being grape picking that, as it turns out, kaeya indeed participated in. venti writing kaeya a personalized poem, once again accepting him as a child of mondstadt.

Kaeya's Hangout - Winery Routes

I was planning to talk about all the routes in the same post. But I have SO MUCH to talk about already that I'm going to make separate posts.

First, let's take a look at the two Winery routes that I played first.

I wasn't expecting to begin in Sumeru, it feels like a continuation from the Archon quest. And we find Kaeya talking to a bird lol

I wanted to go to Mondstadt so I took those steps. First, we visit Lisa and Jean. It's been so long since we've seen these three together! And Kaeya as always shows how considerate he is. He brings presents for everyone, and always chooses good presents for all of them. They love him so much.

There was this part where Kaeya says that "A child has to enjoy their time when they don't have to worry about anything". And there was a little pause. He was surely reflecting on how easier everything was when he was a child 😭

Then Kaeya says he wants to visit the Winery, and asks the Traveler if we prefer to go tomorrow, when Diluc's gonna be there, or the day after.

WELL YOU CAN PROBABLY GUESS WHICH ONE I PICKED FIRST.

So we went tomorrow. Diluc didn't appear a lot, but as always the dialogue between them is really fun.

It had been so long since I was last here, but as always, it feels like home.

Kaeya wanted to trick Diluc into giving him some good wine. What I love is that not only did Diluc obviously not believe him, but that he already knew that excuse from last year lol. He's such an older brother here like "Yeah you THOUGHT you could trick me, you dummy".

And Diluc mentioned the vase!! I want a petition to have the new lamp in the Winery as well, let me see all his presents there!

Diluc can't control himself, even if he wants to be grumpy he's going to treat Kaeya well at the end. But I love their bickering when they're with each other, Kaeya becomes childish at times lol. Also how Diluc tells us that if we have any doubt we can ask Kaeya because he knows how everything works. Of course he does!

Then we go outside and meet Connor and Tunner. Can I just say how much I love that they're so happy to see Kaeya? Again, they love him so much. And their little anecdotes! How much I wanted to see them talking about the past!

As we go around picking grapes, Tunner says how Kaeya was such a good child, and that he's so proud of how he's grown up.

They're all so happy *sniff* But this doesn't even compare to the other route.

Everything's the same but we go a day later. Elzer is so happy to see him. I love when he suggests that Kaeya should take a barrel of wine but Kaeya fears Diluc is going to be angry, and Elzer's like "He might be grumpy but I'm sure he doesn't mind".

They KNOW. Diluc might act coldly, but of course he cares a lot. Kaeya does too, he cares for ALL of them. I think the reason he doesn't want to see Diluc is because he knows that it's awkward sometimes, and also because he knows it's easier to get the good wine if he's not there lol

But I love how Elzer and later Adelinde tell Kaeya that he should visit more often *sniff*

So Elzer doesn't feel well and Kaeya says he'll take his place for the day. We go outside and meet Adelinde. Kaeya REALLY misses Adelinde's cooking so he asks her to make us something.

As Adelinde is cooking, we talk to her and she tells us such great stories! This is exactly what I wanted!

Adelinde says that both Diluc and Kaeya were very cute as kids, that Kaeya was such a sweet child. One time though, they tried to taste wine and Adelinde and Crepus caught them. Diluc was tasked to clean the barrels and Adelinde knew it was too much for him. And when she went to help, she saw that Kaeya was already there helping Diluc 😭

Crepus realized how hard Kaeya had worked, and made a special drink for him to taste a bit of wine. That's so sweet. Adelinde tells us how much Kaeya likes helping others, but how much he denies this. And we know that, of course we do. But it's great seeing characters acknowledging this.

Then when we're eating together, Adelinde asks us to take care of Kaeya, and worries if he has friends with the other Knights (She's such a mom, I love her). Kaeya says that of course he does! (And he's such a kid with her)

And then...

Oh my god, I wasn't prepared.

So someone from Liyue comes for business and Kaeya tends to him. And when that man asks Kaeya who he is...

Kaeya says "I'm the adopted son of Crepus and Diluc's brother."

Words cannot describe how I felt at that moment.

Because it's the first time he has said it. He calls himself Diluc's brother, and Crepus' son, part of the family. IT'S THE FIRST TIME AND I WAS DYING.

In Japanese, he used the term "kyodai" meaning "sibling/brother". I was-- I AM still stunned. AND HE SAID THAT TWICE.

How much I wanted that, I can't believe it. We just need Diluc to say it some time, we just need that. Say it you stupid, grumpy, red haired man!!!

*clears throat* I mean... yeah. I really liked that.

Then, if it wasn't enough, Adelinde tells him "You're not just a guest. You are part of this family and we want you to come more often to visit us."

I just can't. This is too much.

And then comes Klee, thinking that Kaeya was being kept here as punishment lol. But I love how it closes with Kaeya saying "See Adelinde? You don't have to worry about me. I have such good friends."

Oh my god. Believe I really wanted to continue but this was too much. I'll play the other routes later, I need a small break.

I can tell you, I'm more than satisfied, this was beautiful.

in reality the Kaeya hangout was everything we probably could’ve asked for and more .. real ragbros interaction, adelinde and elzer showing us more glimpses into their childhood, kaeya’s bitterness to his father and being forced to lie all his life and being sentenced to a ‘cruel fate’ but at the same time still saying the words “our people”, “my beloved home”, “sweet land of my birth” so genuinely… and still at the same time, being surrounded by kaeya’s friends and family throughout the whole hangout, venti himself telling kaeya that he will always find a home in monstadt; adelinde telling kaeya that he, too is always welcome as a member of their family :(

it was actually so gut wrenching, the way each ending hammered in, again and again, the message that Kaeya’s somebody with a gentle, kind soul, someone who loves so, so deeply and so genuinely; who received a cruel fate and after years upon years of hating this fate and hating himself for having it; his only wish is for a real, true home. And he’s found one, in Mondstadt. But he doesn’t think he deserves it.

The fact that Clothar has repeatedly mentioned how taboo it is that he had an illegitimate child with a non-Khaenri'ahn.

How his family had plans for him that misaligned with how he wanted to live his life with the one he truly loved.

In addition, he is still clearly and vehemently against the archons and worshipping them.

And then we remember Kaeya.

Kaeya, who has implied that he is not a full-blooded Khaenri'ahn.

Kaeya, who may possibly be a child the main Alberich line would have hated or ostracized had the cataclysm not have happened.

Kaeya who is now dubbed by their father as their "Last Hope".

Kaeya, who was left in the city of freedom. The same man who frequently drinks with the very archon his countrymen would have wanted to see dead.

Do you see how it seems like the tables have turned? How the world turned upside-down with just 1 cataclysmic event?

Kaeya is always contradictory to the common definition of the words he is described as on the surface. He is a cryo user who loves the summer season. He is a knight who schemes and plots in the dark. He is a Khaenri'ahn who wants the freedom of Mondstadt.
