5 Steps to Get Your Novel Ready to Self-Publish
Tumblr media
Every year, we’re lucky to have great sponsors for our nonprofit events. Kindle Direct Publishing, a 2022 NaNo sponsor, helps you self-publish eBooks and paperbacks for free. Today, author Denise Grover Swank shares some tips to help you get your novel ready to publish:
Congrats on completing NaNoWriMo! I completed my first book with NaNoWriMo in 2009, and was thrilled when I’d finished, but I wasn’t ready to hit publish just yet!
1. Have someone else read your novel.
Every book needs revising and editing. Trust me, I’ve written over seventy books at this point and still need to revise books.
You’ll either need to find a developmental editor or alpha readers. Alpha readers—well-read readers and/or other authors—are great for writers on a budget and are usually free. You can find them in writers’ groups or your friends who are readers. Just be careful if you’re using friends and family: they’re going to be biased. (Unless they’re my aunt who read my paranormal thriller and told me I should write children’s books.)
2. Invest in copy editing.
You’ve revised and edited your book, now what? Copy editing is where you may want to invest if you can. Copy editors look at your book line by line and correct grammatical mistakes. Please, please, please don’t try to do this yourself. You’ve read you book countless times and will miss things. Trust me. I know. (If you need a proofreader, here’s where your friends who can spot a typo a mile away come in handy.)
3. Get a good cover.
Let’s talk covers! Study the market and find out what’s selling in your genre, then find a cover designer who fits the trends. You can spend anywhere from $100 to $1000 or more, but you can get by on the lower end. Just don’t try to make one yourself unless you’re really good at graphic design.
4. Get the formatting right.
You’re almost ready to publish, but first you need to format your eBook and print book—You can do this by using the free templates available on Kindle Direct Publishing, you can pay someone to do it, or there are several programs less than $200 that will do this for you.
5. Now you’re ready!
There are multiple places to publish, but KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) is super easy to use! Be sure to claim your books on Amazon Author Central, create an author page, then ask readers to follow you. Amazon will let your readers know about preorders and releases. Kindle Unlimited is great for newer authors who are still finding an audience, and readers in KU are more willing to take a chance on new-to-them authors. And finally, use the gifting option on your product page for giveaways on social media. Readers who love your book will tell their friends—never underestimate word of mouth marketing!
New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank lives in Kansas City, Missouri. You can find out more about Denise at www.denisegroverswank.com.

Taylor Swift isn't just a pop icon anymore; she's the next great American dynasty, singlehandedly steering some of the country's most vaunted brands and institutions.
Why it matters: She already fueled the nation's economy for much of the summer and drove thousands to register to vote. Now, she's a beacon of opportunity — and cash — for both the NFL and Hollywood.
The NFL: Swift was spotted cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs alongside Donna Kelce, mother of Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, during last Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.
Throughout the broadcast, Fox panned over to Swift nine times throughout the game and social media was abuzz over her attendance.
The NFL flashed images of Swift in their game day graphics throughout the game, released 10 TikToks on the official NFL account — which changed its bio to read "9/24/23. Taylor was here' — and NFL on Fox even ran an ad capitalizing on her romantic link to Kelce.
Kelce is also a recipient of the halo effect. In the 24 hours following the game, he gained over 300,000 new social media followers, saw a 400% increase in merchandise sales and his podcast ranked #1 on the Apple charts.
By the numbers: Her attendance did in fact drive ratings, particularly among young, female viewers
The Chiefs vs. Bears game drew 24.3 million viewers, making it the most-viewed telecast of the week, and female viewership in the key 18-49 demo saw a 63% increase.
What they're saying: "This buzz around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift isn't just about speculation about their relationship, it's about the Halo Effect at work - where one person's influence boosts the appeal of others around them. Suddenly, football is more than a game; it's a stage for pop culture," said communication expert Molly McPherson.
"It isn't just an academic theory; it's a savvy marketing move. When an All-Pro tight end like Travis Kelce invites Taylor Swift to a game, he's essentially inviting her entire fan base to tune in as well. Swift, Kelce, the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs all come out ahead. There was only one loser in Sunday's game, and it was the Chicago Bears."
Box office: With Hollywood mired in the depths of dual labor disputes, this fall's movie slate was looking pretty bare for theaters — until Swift delivered an unexpected jolt with the surprise announcement of her "Eras Tour" film, set for release this month.
Swift and her family directly negotiated a distribution deal with theater chain AMC, leaving out the traditional studio middlemen via an agreement that could upend how concert films are released in the future, per Puck's Matthew Belloni.
The concert film is tracking toward a $100 million opening weekend domestically — and likely much higher, according to Deadline, with one analyst calling it a "unicorn."
Its announcement also forced a last-minute jolt of Hollywood's release calendar, as Blumhouse head Jason Blum moved up the release of the forthcoming "Exorcist" sequel by a week, declaring "#TaylorWins."
The big picture: Swift has so much influence, clout and engagement for a reason.
She has won over the trust of her fandom — referred to as Swifties — through authentic and direct communication across social media and through fan experiences.
Her penchant for hiding clues and Easter eggs throughout her communiques is so well-known that she took over Google Search to reveal new song titles last month.
Music accolades aside, Swift gained even more respect from her fellow musicians by challenging the way artists were compensated across streaming platforms.
What's next: Swift is expected to attend this week's Chiefs vs Jets game, which could continue to bring more eyeballs, more chatter and more money to the NFL.
The bottom line: When Taylor Swift gets involved, the only blank space that matters is on the checks that'll inevitably be cashed.

#SwiftTok had a rough day. Early Thursday, after Universal Music Group and TikTok failed to reach an agreement on licensing music from UMG artists on the app, sounds from those artists—including Taylor Swift, Drake, and others—went silent.
“Some of my most viewed videos are ones talking about Taylor Swift that have Taylor Swift songs in the background,” says Savannah Delullo, a Wordle influencer on TikTok and a Swiftie. “So, them being muted is pretty sad, because we put in all of that work.”
Delullo notes that creators might switch over to alternative versions of the official songs or experiment with ways to avoid copyrighted music altogether, but still the mood on #SwiftTok is far from light.
“Half my drafts are muted now,” says Madeline Macrae, a Swift fan and TikTok creator. While initially frustrated by the change, Macrae thinks there might be positive impacts. Even though many ardent fans value the online community built through social media, some are also uncomfortable with the flattening of poetic songs into 60-second memes. “Songs that Swifties would usually gatekeep aren't going to be TikTok-ified now,” she says.
It’s not just Swifties who are missing music on TikTok. Multiple videos posted on Olivia Rodrigo’s official account, including one with over 50 million views, are now quiet. Similarly, TikToks with UMG licensed music posted by Billie Eilish to promote her album display the message “This sound isn’t available.”
During recent years, UMG and other labels have built marketing strategies around getting songs to go viral with the TikTok algorithm. Younger users see the platform as a great way to discover their next favorite song and build out cool playlists. If TikTok and UMG don’t reach a new deal soon, the prohibition could dramatically alter how artists tease new music and connect with fans through social media.
In an email to WIRED, Barney Hooper, a global head of music communications at TikTok, indicated that the change impacts only music from UMG and confirmed that videos with previously licensed music will stay muted until another deal is closed. Soon, TikTok might also take steps to remove songs in the Universal Music Publishing Group catalog, which would increase the number of impacted artists.
So, licensed music from UMG artists is gone from TikTok, for now, but it remains unclear what will happen to unofficial remixes and mashups as the catalog is wiped from the platform. Viral sounds on TikTok are sometimes warped versions of an original song, with vocals frequently sped up, and while some of those sounds remained on the platform Thursday, they may not for much longer.
A well-known musician for almost two decades, Swift has seen her popularity skyrocket in recent years. Her Eras Tour is so massive it has the power to impact local economies and her appearances at NFL games to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, play have altered football viewership this season. Losing her music as well as tunes from Drake and others in UMG’s lineup could alter the fabric of TikTok itself.
Swift’s songs may no longer be all over the platform, but music remains core to the user experience of scrolling through TikTok. The cascade of snippets from huge artists disappearing could even usher in a new era on the For You Page feed. “I feel like a silver lining to this is that smaller or independent artists can have their chance to go viral,” says Macrae.

John Edward Robinson, Sr., a.k.a. "The Slave Master". The First Internet Killer
Robinson was born in Cicero, Illinois. He started attending trade school to study radiology. Though he only spent two years there and didn't finish his training, he was still able to get a job as an X-ray technician at a children's hospital in Kansas City, Missouri by forging credentials. Though Robinson was convicted of theft, fraud, and embezzlement several times between 1969 and 1991, he was able to work for charitable organizations and as a civic leader. In 1977, working for a handicapped service organization, he managed to get on its board of directors and created a "Man of the Year" award as his first action and awarded it to himself.
When it was covered by the media, several people realized that Robinson had forged their recommendations. The press spent two weeks exposing Robinson as the fraud he was, though only his wife and children seemed to suffer. Robinson is suspected to have committed his first murder in 1984 when he hired 19-year-old Paula Godfrey to work as a sales representative for two shell companies he had made in order to create fake credentials for himself. After Robinson allegedly sent her away for some training, she was never seen again.
In 1983, Robinson's crimes escalated. His brother, Don Robinson, and his wife, Helen, had unsuccessfully been trying to conceive and formally adopt a child. Claiming to have connections in the adoption business, Robinson started looking for single pregnant women who could provide a child, presumably to enter the black market adoption business. Because he wasn't able to get any referrals from social services, he went directly to the source and approached 19-year-old Lisa Stasi, the single mother of a four-month-old baby, Tiffany, at a battered women's shelter in January of 1985. Using the name "Josh Osborne", he convinced her that he would take her into a training program in Texas that included daycare and job training. On January 9, he came to the home of Stasi's sister and picked up Tiffany. The next day, Stasi's family got a phone call in which a terrified-sounding Stasi said "they" had deemed her an unfit mother and that her mother, Betty, had said she wanted the baby. The last her family heard from Lisa were the words "here they come" over the phone before it was disconnected. No one saw or had any contact with Lisa after that. Two days later, Robinson handed Tiffany over to his brother along with forged legal documents about the adoption that claimed the child's mother had committed suicide. The same day, Stasi's family filed a missing persons report. Robinson was investigated on suspicion of violating the Mann Act, which originally prohibited white slavery and transportation of women across state lines for "immoral purposes". This was then changed to the word "immoral" was narrowed down to prostitution and other illegal sexual acts, such as sending Stasi and Godfrey over state lines for work. As Robinson's probation was re-evaluated, he became a major player in the underground sex industry, involved in S&M-related prostitution.
The FBI sent in a female undercover agent to pose as a potential prostitute for Robinson, but became so concerned that her life was in danger and pulled her out. An important witness in Robinson's trial for violating his probation was a prostitute named Teresa who worked for him and who was also his mistress. Robinson had threatened Teresa by sticking the barrel of a loaded gun into her vagina after she displeased a client. Teresa she was then taken into safe custody and Robinson was unable to face his accuser in court, thereby ending the proceedings in his favor. Not long afterwards, in 1987, he went to prison on a theft conviction and wasn't released until 1993. After his release, Robinson discovered the internet, which gave him access to all kinds of BDSM-related chat rooms and contact pages. Using the nickname "Slavemaster", he used the technology to gain access to many of his victims which lead him to being the first serial killer to use the internet to hunt for victims. In the meantime, his wife supported the family by taking a job as the manager of the trailer park the family had been forced to move into after losing their suburban home. Robinson's first victim during this period was Beverly Bonner, a prison librarian, whom Robinson seduced and convinced to leave her husband. After their divorce, Robinson got her to move to Olathe, promising to give her a job at one of his ventures. She disappeared almost immediately, but not before signing over her alimony checks to Robinson. Robinson continued to cash Bonner's checks, and when questioned by her former husband, told him that she had moved to Australia.
In 1994, he made contact with a woman named Sheila Faith on a social networking site. Faith's daughter, Debbie, was confined to a wheelchair. Promising to give her work and provide medical care for her daughter, Robinson convinced Faith to move to Kansas City, where he killed both mother and daughter and began cashing Faith's pension checks. In 1997, Robinson met Polish immigrant Izabela Lewicka at a BDSM contact site. She then dropped out of community college and moved in with Robinson. She then agreed to become a submissive for him and to become an intern at a non-existent publishing business he told her he ran. She signed a 115-year slave contract which gave Robinson possession of all of her belongings including her bank accounts. In 1999, Robinson killed Lewicka. Robinson's last known victim was Suzette Trouten, another submissive at a BDSM site who worked as a nurse during the day. Robinson convinced her to work for him as a caregiver for his elderly father. After agreeing to the job, Touten moved to Kansas and soon disappeared. To cover it up, Robinson sent her mother several type-written letters, all of which were written using much better spelling than Touten usually used, and were post-marked in Kansas.
By 1999, Robinson had become careless about covering his tracks and had attracted the attention of authorities in both Kansas and Missouri as a result of all of the missing person reports that were linked to him somehow. For some weeks after killing Suzette Trouten, he hijacked her email account and kept in touch with some of her online friends to keep up the appearance of her being alive, though the bluff wasn't hard to see through. One of the friends, a woman named Lore, started investigating Robinson, who went by "J.R. Turner" in his communication with them. He also began an online relationship with a laid-off psychiatrist named Vickie, who could very well have become his next victim. By then, the authorities were investigating Robinson. In the spring of 2000, Robinson wired some money to Vickie and arranged a meeting with her in a motel in Overland Park. Staked out in the next room, law enforcement officers heard Robinson force her into rougher sex than Vickie had agreed to (though they weren't aware of how badly she was treated at the time), making him guilty of sexual battery. After he was finished, Robinson left her alone in the room for days. He then sent her back to Texas, keeping the $700 worth of sex toys she had brought with her. Not long afterwards, Robinson repeated the process with Jeanna, an unemployed accountant from Texas, and left her behind as well. Out of fear, she contacted the police.
When Vickie also came forward and the 30-man Robinson task force found out that he had been seducing a woman from Tennessee and had convinced her to come to him and bring her 8-year-old daughter and the deed to her car, they secured an arrest warrant. On June 2, 2000, they raided his mobile home and found five chemical barrels, each of which contained one of Robinson's victims. Though the bodies of Lisa Stasi and Paula Godfrey were never found, the authorities did find evidence linking Robinson to them was as well as proof that he had sold Stasi's daughter to his brother. They also found blood in the apartment Lewicka had stayed in while she was in a slave relationship with Robinson. He was charged with the murders of Trouten, Lewicka, and Stasi, the first two of which would be punishable by death, and the kidnapping of Stasi's baby as well as dozens of fraud and forgery charges. He was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to death as well as life in prison for Stasi's murder. Afterwards, he confessed to his additional five murders. He is currently on death row at the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas waiting for his sentence to be carried out.

It's A Revolution
Professional sports have long been available for free viewing, either on cable, satellite, or over-the-air. Of course, league blackout rules apply in certain places, and there are season pass options available for die hard fans. The gist of it is that watching the game, whatever it may be, has been of the people and for the people.
But that is slowly changing. In 2021, Amazon signed on for 11 seasons of Thursday Night Football, and has effectively added one more day of the week to fans’ football-watching activities. Well, as long as you have Amazon Prime, know a friend who does and doesn’t mind you crashing there, or can find it at a sports bar. Otherwise, you’re out of luck.
AppleTV+ has dibs on Major League Soccer, which proved to be a huge win for Apple last year when Messi started playing for Miami. It’s an upgrade to the standard AppleTV+ subscription, but some games are shared across the AppleTV+ platform for the basic subscribers.
And now we come to the latest: Peacock, owned by NBCUniversal, carried this last Saturday’s playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, and based on the data, it was the “most-streamed live event in US history.” Some 23 million viewers turned in, of which 16.3 million were logged in to Peacock. The remaining seven million were viewers in the KC and Miami markets, as well as subscribers to the NFL+ mobile app.
Tumblr media
But the superlatives don’t stop there. The game also practically choked the internet, accounting for 30% of all web bandwidth during the game. It was the “most internet usage ever in the US on a single date.” Take that, Netflix.
So what’s the problem, you ask? Well, there was a huge outpouring of negativity on social media, because some viewers felt like they were being extorted for $5.99 a month to sign up for Peacock (which, of course, they could cancel at any time). And some lawmakers are concerned as well, because…you know…that’s not how we have always done it.
We may see a court battle or two over this, but I suspect the ship is sailing, and we will now begin to see ever more professional sports on subscription streaming services. And with good reason, because pro sports is about the only reason people watch linear television these days. OK, maybe the evening news, but I have already digested all of the day’s news online long before the 10pm showing. When you consider that 93 out of the top 100 broadcast programs last year were NFL games, you see the magnitude of this.
Think about it. The only content with a shelf life of not more than a few hours is sports and the news. Who wants to watch yesterday’s football game, or last night’s newscast? I’ll wait. And we’ll all happily wait to watch everything else on our own schedule, whether by DVR or streaming on demand.
It’s just that, as we continue to cut the ties that bound us to all those legacy media outlets, the new model is all about streaming. While there is much consolidation going on—that’s a topic for a future blog—it also means there will be more resources among the surviving conglomerates to do what Peacock just did, and what Amazon has been doing. Exclusive rights cost big money, but with that many eyeballs, it is well worth the price. Advertisers love it, and so does any company with the rights.
For consumers, it signifies a continuation of the drift away from legacy outlets, and toward the streamers. I know. The prices and bundling options available these days are beginning to look a lot like that which we left behind with cable and satellite, but that’s how it goes. Orwell noted that tendency in Animal Farm. The Wheel of Retailing Theory says the same. A revolution eventually begins to look a lot like that which it sought to replace.
And if you want to watch pro sports in the future, I am betting heavily that you’ll have to join the revolution. Or find a friend who has. Just be sure to bring food and beverage.

NFL Marketing Exec On Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce Viral Phenomenon: “People Think We May Have Had Something To Do With It - Absolutely Not, We Knew Nothing”
A senior marketing executive at the NFL maintained that the league had nothing to do with helping to engineer Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce's ultra-viral courtship of pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Tumblr media
Marissa Solis, SVP of global brand and consumer marketing for the NFL, addressed the phenomenon during a panel at Advertising Week on the topic of how sports leagues are trying to reach elusive Gen Z audiences. Once the romance became public in September, she said, the league could only do its best to react and make the most of it.
Communicating with fans about the relationship offered "a perfect example" of the challenge of connecting with Gen Z fans, who are "fast paced and ever-changing," Solis said. "It's really, really tough to actually get them and to be ahead of them." The league "learned from the best, Ms. Taylor Swift," she said with a smile, leaning into the off-field development, which also boosted TV ratings at a time when Swift was also getting set for the wide release of her Eras Tour concert film.
"This thing happened like this," Solis marveled, snapping her fingers. "People think that we may have had something to do with it. Absolutely not. We knew nothing. We knew what you guys knew and followed on social media. Travis went to her concert, asked her to maybe come to a game. We had no idea that she was going to show up. And once it happened, she showed up to a game and in an instant, literally in a second, it's viral. Luckily, we have an incredible team" of specialists working to promote it across league social channels.
"All you can do is be there and be ready for the moment," Solis said. "When it happened, we were ready to roll with content like 'Football 101 for Swifties,' making sure that Swifties who had never watched a football game, didn't understand what football was, knew at least the rules of the game. But here's what's more important: I bet you didn't know, there are thousands - thousands - of core NFL fans who actually don't know who Taylor Swift is." As her fellow panelists laughed, she continued, "It was also an opportunity for us to educate our core NFL fan on who she is. You guys may have seen some of the video content and social content around the Chiefs dancing their victory laps to Taylor Swift songs. That's a way to bring our core audience to it."
The league aimed to "be a student of culture and be ready when the moment hits," Solis concluded. "You can't be ahead of it, but you can be just right there so you can be sure to take advantage and fully grow your audience."
The panel, moderated by Matt Fasano, SVP of Next Gen at Wasserman, also featured Melissa Brenner, EVP, Digital Media for the NBA, and Anne Marie Giansutsos, CMO of the Drone Racing League. The central theme was addressing an audience of largely cord-nevers, who take in sports content primarily through social media. "There's no way they're going to sit and watch a 4-hour game," Solis said of Gen Z. "We have to create snackable content that they enjoy."
Lifestyle content, a way to help younger fans more fully connect with players, has been described within the NFL as the league's "helmets off" strategy, the exec added, noting that the NBA long ago blazed a trail in that area.
Brenner said each social platform has its own algorithm and sensibility and also evolves constantly, so customizing to each one "in a bespoke, targeted fashion" is crucial. The NBA has a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery to operate NBA.com and create official digital content, she noted.
The global nature of the NBA helps boost its social reach, Brenner said, with about 25% of players and two-thirds of players coming from outside the U.S. The league also takes a more "democratic approach to fan-generated content" than do other pro sports operations, she said. "We've put pretty narrow restrictions on it. It's influencers. There's a virality, it works." Getting "written about and posted about" is the main goal.

Brand Activation Agency in Missouri

Brand Activation Agency in Missouri: Elevating Your Brand to New Heights
In the fast-paced world of marketing, building a brand that resonates with customers and creates a lasting impression is crucial. Traditional advertising methods can only take a brand so far, but brand activation takes it to the next level by fostering direct engagement between a business and its audience. For companies in Missouri, working with a brand activation agency can help build strong connections with customers and increase brand awareness.
This article explores what brand activation is, why it's important, and how a brand activation agency in Missouri can drive your business’s success.
What is Brand Activation?
Brand activation refers to the process of bringing a brand to life by creating experiences and interactions that allow customers to engage directly with it. Unlike traditional marketing, which focuses on delivering a message, brand activation focuses on creating experiences that prompt an emotional response and increase customer loyalty.
Brand activation campaigns typically include a mix of in-person and digital events that aim to engage customers, encourage participation, and spark word-of-mouth marketing. These experiences can range from experiential marketing events to product sampling, interactive campaigns, and social media contests.
The ultimate goal of brand activation is to make your brand memorable, increase consumer awareness, and create positive associations that lead to long-term customer relationships.
Why Brand Activation is Crucial for Businesses in Missouri
Missouri is home to a diverse and thriving business environment, ranging from small local businesses to large enterprises. With competition across industries growing, standing out in the marketplace requires more than just good products and services—it requires building meaningful connections with your audience.
Here’s why brand activation is particularly important for businesses in Missouri:
1. Boosting Local Brand Awareness
Missouri’s vibrant cities, such as St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield, provide a variety of opportunities for businesses to engage with local communities. Brand activation campaigns can help companies build local recognition by tapping into the unique culture and preferences of their target audiences in different regions of the state.
2. Creating Memorable Experiences
Brand activation goes beyond traditional advertising methods by focusing on interactive experiences. Whether through pop-up events, street marketing, or live demonstrations, these campaigns allow customers to directly interact with your brand in a way that leaves a lasting impression. This emotional connection increases brand recall and drives loyalty.
3. Driving Customer Engagement
Consumers today want to engage with brands that offer more than just products—they want to experience the brand’s values and personality. By incorporating customer engagement strategies, brand activation campaigns make your audience feel like a part of the brand. This is especially important in Missouri’s customer-centric business environment, where word-of-mouth marketing and personal connections are key to success.
4. Enhancing Customer Loyalty
Brand activation allows companies to engage customers on a deeper level, creating opportunities for long-term relationships. By creating unique experiences that resonate with the audience, businesses can convert first-time customers into loyal brand advocates.
Services Offered by Brand Activation Agencies in Missouri
A brand activation agency in Missouri offers a variety of services to help businesses engage with their target audiences and make lasting impressions. From strategy development to campaign execution, these agencies provide the expertise needed to design experiences that capture attention and drive results.
Here are some of the services offered by brand activation agencies in Missouri:
1. Experiential Marketing
Experiential marketing is at the heart of brand activation. Agencies in Missouri specialize in creating immersive and interactive experiences that allow customers to engage with your brand. This can include live events, product demos, pop-up shops, and experiential stunts that generate buzz and encourage participation.
2. Event Marketing
Event marketing is a powerful tool for brand activation, as it allows brands to interact directly with consumers in a physical space. Whether it’s a sponsored community event, festival, or trade show, marketing agencies in Missouri can help plan and execute events that put your brand front and center.
3. Digital Activation Campaigns
In addition to in-person events, brand activation agencies also create digital campaigns designed to engage audiences online. These campaigns can include social media contests, influencer marketing, and interactive content like quizzes or polls that prompt consumers to interact with your brand in meaningful ways.
4. Sampling Campaigns
Product sampling is another effective brand activation strategy. By giving consumers the chance to try your product firsthand, you can generate excitement and word-of-mouth marketing. Many Missouri-based brand activation agencies offer services to organize and execute sampling events that target specific demographics.
5. Pop-Up Shops
Pop-up shops are temporary retail locations that give brands an opportunity to connect with consumers in a unique, engaging setting. Brand activation agencies can help design and set up pop-up shops that allow customers to experience your brand in a new and exciting way.
6. Street Marketing
Street marketing involves reaching customers directly in public spaces. Brand activation agencies in Missouri can create eye-catching, interactive marketing campaigns that capture attention and get people talking about your brand.
The Role of a Brand Activation Agency in Missouri
Brand activation agencies in Missouri are experts in creating marketing campaigns that leave a lasting impact on consumers. Here’s how they can help your business grow:
1. Strategic Planning
Before launching a brand activation campaign, agencies conduct in-depth research to understand your target audience and market. They use this information to create a strategy that aligns with your brand’s goals, values, and the preferences of your audience.
2. Creative Campaign Development
Brand activation agencies bring a fresh perspective to campaign development. They leverage creativity to design unique experiences that stand out from the competition and engage your target audience. From concept creation to visual design and messaging, agencies handle all aspects of campaign development.
3. Campaign Execution
Executing a brand activation campaign requires meticulous planning and coordination. Whether it’s a live event or a digital campaign, agencies manage the logistics, resources, and execution to ensure the campaign runs smoothly and achieves its objectives.
4. Measuring Success
Measuring the success of a brand activation campaign is essential for determining its effectiveness. Agencies use various metrics, such as engagement rates, social media mentions, and sales conversions, to assess the impact of the campaign and provide insights for future strategies.
How to Choose the Right Brand Activation Agency in Missouri
With so many options available, choosing the right brand activation agency in Missouri can be challenging. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:
1. Industry Experience
Look for an agency with experience working in your industry. This ensures they understand the challenges and opportunities specific to your business and can develop strategies that align with your goals.
2. Creative Approach
Brand activation is all about creativity and innovation. Choose an agency that offers fresh ideas and a creative approach to campaign development.
3. Local Expertise
Missouri’s markets vary greatly from city to city. A brand activation agency with local expertise will understand the unique preferences and behaviors of consumers in your region and tailor campaigns accordingly.
4. Proven Track Record
Review the agency’s past campaigns and case studies to see how successful they’ve been in creating effective brand activations. Testimonials from previous clients can also provide valuable insight into the agency’s capabilities.
Conclusion
Partnering with a brand activation agency in Missouri can help your business engage with consumers in unique and meaningful ways. By creating immersive experiences and interactive campaigns, brand activation agencies enable brands to stand out in a competitive market and foster long-lasting customer relationships.
Whether you’re looking to increase brand awareness, boost customer engagement, or build loyalty, working with an experienced brand activation agency in Missouri will ensure your business thrives in the evolving marketing landscape.

The Rise of App Companies in Kansas City: Why You Should Partner with Local Developers
In today’s technology-driven world, mobile apps have become essential for businesses of all sizes. Whether you're a startup or an established company, having a custom app can enhance your operations and customer engagement. Kansas City is home to a number of top app companies that specialize in building unique and functional mobile applications. These companies not only develop apps but also provide ongoing support, ensuring that your digital presence thrives in the ever-changing tech landscape.
This article will delve into why working with app developers in Kansas City can be a game-changer for your business and how local expertise can streamline your app development process.
Why Mobile Apps Are Essential for Business Growth
Mobile apps have revolutionized how companies interact with their customers. With smartphones becoming more accessible, people now prefer using apps for shopping, banking, social media, and more. This shift has made it crucial for businesses to develop their own mobile applications to stay relevant.
A mobile app can enhance the user experience by providing faster access to services, improving customer retention, and increasing brand visibility. It can also enable businesses to collect valuable data about customer preferences and behavior. For these reasons, investing in app development is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity for businesses aiming for long-term success.
The Advantage of Working with Local App Companies
Choosing to work with app companies in Kansas City offers several benefits. Local developers understand the market trends and customer behavior specific to the Kansas City area. This localized knowledge allows them to create apps that resonate with your target audience and are more likely to succeed.
Additionally, partnering with local developers fosters better communication. Working with a Kansas City-based team means you can meet face-to-face, discuss your vision, and ensure that the app aligns with your business objectives. Local developers also provide more personalized support throughout the app’s lifecycle, from development to updates and maintenance.
What to Look for in Kansas City App Developers
When selecting app developers in Kansas City, there are a few key factors to consider:
Experience and Expertise You want to work with developers who have a proven track record in creating successful apps. Check their portfolio to see the variety of projects they’ve worked on. This will give you insight into their expertise and the industries they have experience with.
Customization Options Every business has unique needs, and your app should reflect that. Look for developers who offer custom solutions tailored to your specific requirements. Whether you need an ecommerce app, a loyalty program, or a booking platform, the right development team will be able to deliver a solution that fits your business.
Post-Launch Support Launching an app is just the beginning. After it goes live, it’s crucial to have a team that provides ongoing support. This includes fixing bugs, rolling out updates, and making improvements based on user feedback.
User-Centric Design A well-designed app prioritizes user experience. It should be intuitive, easy to navigate, and responsive across all devices. Skilled developers will ensure that your app is not only visually appealing but also functional and user-friendly.
Custom Mobile App Solutions Tailored to Your Business
One of the major benefits of working with app companies in Kansas City is the ability to receive custom-built apps that align with your business goals. Custom apps provide the flexibility to incorporate features that meet your specific needs. From integrating payment gateways to enabling push notifications for promotions, custom apps are designed to give your business a competitive edge.
Additionally, these apps are scalable. As your business grows, your app can evolve to include new functionalities without requiring a complete redesign. This flexibility ensures that your app remains relevant as your business needs change.
Why Investing in an App Matters
A mobile app is a long-term investment that pays off in numerous ways. It allows you to stay connected with your customers, keep them engaged, and provide them with a seamless experience. Apps also open up new revenue streams, from in-app purchases to subscription models.
Moreover, having a mobile app boosts your brand’s credibility. Customers expect businesses to have a digital presence, and those without apps may appear outdated. By working with app developers in Kansas City, you’re not only modernizing your business but also ensuring that you stay competitive in a fast-paced market.
Conclusion
Mobile apps have become indispensable tools for businesses in every industry. Partnering with app companies in Kansas City gives you access to local expertise, ensuring that your app resonates with your audience and meets the needs of your business. From custom app development to post-launch support, local app developers offer end-to-end solutions that can help your business thrive in the digital space.

The Perez Hilton Podcast W/ Chris Booker: The Gossip Mongers
Tumblr media
People dispensing gossip to the rest of us used to be a function of the newspaper via people like Hedda Hopper or Louella Parsons. Then TV and the internet brought us Rona Barrett and in the 2000s, blogs, social media, and YouTube brought us people like Perez Hilton and the collective crudeness called TMZ.
The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker has been around for ten years and over 500 episodes. Clearly, Hilton and Booker have been doing something right. The format is straightforward, with Hilton dispensing gossip with a childlike delight that's hard to fake. Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. was born March 23, 1978), and is known professionally as Perez Hilton.   His blog is known for posts covering gossip items about celebrities, and for posting tabloid photos, over which he has added his own captions or "doodles". His blog has garnered controversy for its attitude, its former practice of outing alleged closeted celebrities, and its role in the increasing coverage of celebrities in all forms of media.
Hilton has written four books, runs two YouTube channels, has appeared in various films and television shows, and has acted in two off-Broadway shows. In 2018, he was dubbed "the original celebrity social media influencer" by BroadwayWorld.
The marketing pitch for the show is: "What's hot? Perez and Chris let you know! These two pop culture experts bring you their unique perspective and insight into the trending stories of the week in the world of showbiz and beyond. Nothing is off the table! No holds barred! And these two usually disagree about everyone! It's a highly enjoyable and engaging listen!"
Hilton's co-host, Chris Booker met Perez Hilton on the Amp Radio where Booker hosted  "Morning Show on L.A. Top 40" and also appeared on Carson Daly's Show.
Booker got his big start in radio in 1989 while attending West Liberty University in Wheeling, West Virginia. In 1992, he began his self-described "gypsy years radio tour," where he held the positions of on-air personality and music director at a number of different stations as both Chris Booker and Booker Madison in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Florence, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh. In 1996, he landed the evening slot at 92.3 K-Rock in New York City, where he met the nation's top radio talk show host, Howard Stern, who made the young DJ a regular on his program. He made numerous appearances on Howard Stern's show under the name "Booger." Booker left K-Rock in 2003 for the morning drive show on the "Blink" version of WNEW. When that format failed and the show was taken off the air, Booker then worked at Sirius Satellite Radio as morning host for Octane Radio.
Booker plays a key role on the show as a voice of reason, a backstop for Hilton's wild-eyed exuberance, and a repository of sharp-witted humor, and intriguing observations. Excluding the hype, the podcast covers trending stories in the world of show business, interviews with celebrities and interesting personalities, and more. Each weekly episode runs about 35 minutes, which is a perfect length for gossiping. Any shorter and listeners think they're missing something. Any longer and the need for more gossip leads to more mean-spirited and gratuitous rumors, whispers, and canards.
Some of the recent episodes I've listened included Perez's exclusive about Jennifer Lopez canceling her tour, with Hilton sure that lackluster ticket sales, not marital discord with husband Ben Affleck, was the reason for staying home. In that episode, Booker postulated that perhaps the rumors of marital troubles were fabricated by Lopez and her P.R. team to give cover to the tour cancellation. Most of the episodes deal with social media and reality TV celebrities, such as the one that asked: "Which Real Housewives franchise might be on the chopping block?"
Of course, there is always coverage of the Kardashian clan with rumors about their latest bikini wax or some contrived feud with another family member.  Due to her global reach as a music superstar, Taylor Swift is a constant subject for the gossip microscope.
After ten years, The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker must be doing something right. I recommend the show for gossip mongers and rumor addicts. Hilton and Booker make an excellent hosting team. The length of the episodes fits the show perfectly, and the gossip, while spicy, saucy, and sometimes slimy, doesn't possess that sludgy, harsh quality of TMZ.

Mayor-Elect Denny Magruder: A Man of Many Perspectives – Part 2
Tumblr media
(Publisher’s Note: This is the second of a two-part series on Wheeling’s Mayor-Elect Denny Magruder as he prepares to take the Oath of Office on July 1st and preside over his first Wheeling Council meeting the very next day.) Once upon a time in a small Appalachian steel town, a long list of the biggest rock bands performed to sold out shows at the Wheeling Civic Center. Fans from the tri-state region enjoyed groups like the Doobie Brothers, Boston, Foreigner, Kansas, Guns n’ Roses, KISS, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Rush, Cheap Trick, Poison, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger, Heart, and many, many more. But then one day early in the 1990s, the Civic Center’s phone stopped ringing and the bands stopped coming. Just like that. That’s when newer, larger outdoor venues similar to the Coca-Cola Star Lake Amphitheater were being built around the country, and a rain-or-shine crowd of 20,000 fans started generating four times the cash an artist could earn in Wheeling. So, instead, the Friendly City’s auditorium turned into a middle-market rental house where the Globetrotters played and the Wheeling Nailers moved in and planted ice-rink roots.   Despite those consumer-driven economic trends, it was Wheeling Civic Center General Manager Denny Magruder who took the blame for the absence of rock n’ roll when in reality it was his management that allowed the facility to survive as an entertainment venue. But how? “I listened and learned,” he explained. “We made the arena the most if could be, and we did the same with the theatre.” Magruder is confident he can work well with state and county officials, including Ohio County Commissioner Zach Abraham. But can Magruder do the same with the City of Wheeling? Magruder: During the campaign, I believe I knocked on more doors than anyone has in the history of this town, and that was because I wanted to talk with the town. I wanted to find out what they were thinking, and that’s exactly what I found out. The people wanted this change. And once I get into office and we get this thing moving forward, I’ll continue knocking on the doors of residents and businesses, too. I’ll be talking to a lot of business owners, and to a lot of organizations, but don’t be surprised when I knock on a citizen’s door from time to time. I’ll say, ‘Hi, I’m the mayor and I’m here on behalf of the city. Number one, thanks for living here, and thanks for taking care of your property. What more can we do for you?’ I believe we need to tell our people ‘thanks.’ ___________ Magruder wasn’t much on social media while managing Wesbanco Arena and the Capitol Theatre, but his children, grandchildren, and friends showed him around the Facebook platform once he decided to run for mayor in June 2023. That’s when he saw what people were saying about him. The good, and the bad. The mayoral race included five other candidates, including a pair of council members, an insurance salesman, a businesswoman, and a retired factory worker, and the group remained cordial throughout the process. They spoke about their qualifications for the position, and about their motivation for filing to run. On Facebook, Magruder received messages like “Save Our City,” and “Bring the pride back, Denny,” but he was also called “old,” and “out of touch,” and some posters said a man in his 70s wouldn’t be as inclusive as a younger mayor would be. The new mayor of Wheeling was supported during his campaign by his three grown children and his grandchildren. Does he believe that to be true? Magruder: I read those comments and I get it. I understood the concerns. All I can say is that I’m going to do my best to include everyone in everything. For example, when I talk about door knocking, I want to visit people in every neighborhood, and I have that same mindset about everyone in the city. Wheeling isn’t just my city. It’s everyone’s city. One of my opponents, J.T. Thomas, said it perfectly when he said we need pride in our neighborhoods and he referred to the people by their teams … the South Wheeling Indians and the Warwood Redbirds and the Island Tigers. There is the pride factor that is a key element in Wheeling. It’s something that brings us together, lets us be competitive, and then encourages us to work together. ___________ Age is a topic in politics more now than ever before, and that’s because of the ages of the two candidates for the U.S. presidency. President Joe Biden is currently 81 years old, and the Republican nominee, and former president, Donald Trump just turned 78 on June 14. But it's an unfair question to ask Magruder about a decision he’ll make in three or four years from now, right? Especially when the man hasn’t even been sworn into the mayor’s office, right? But it’s a question a lot of folks are already asking themselves because, yes, Magruder is 76 years old, and yes, each term is four years long. So, yes, that does mean he will be 80 years old when his first term is complete, and that is the main reason for the all of the premature curiosity. Magruder attended the recent groundbreaking for the DiCarlo Building and took a moment to visit with Toni DiCarlo. So, will he run for re-election in 2024? Magruder: I can honestly say right now I have no idea if I’m going to run for re-election in 2028, and if I even tried to answer that question right now, I’d only be guessing for a lot of different reasons. Listen, I’m 76 years old and I am in very good health. I love being out and about with people all of the time, but I also don’t know what tomorrow might bring my way. No one does. That’s not a decision for now. That’s a decision I’ll have to make about three years from now. But I can tell you that if people want to talk about some of our decisions, I’m not going to hold a grudge or call anyone wrong. I’m going to want to talk about it to see if there’s a better way. That’s how a leader leads because we’re all in this thing together. Read the full article
