Fine. Have another shot. That won't do us any good tomorrow.
"There was this guy I met in Arkham - he wasn't actually a criminal - his family just couldn't take care of him anymore - or wouldn't, probably."
Two-Face stirs a little pick with an olive on it around the edge of his drink.
"They used to put kids in that place, too. Maybe that was before you showed up - maybe they still do - but I don't think any kid should see the inside of Arkham Asylum. Ever. I remember this one kid - they hauled him in from outside - he said he only felt comfortable in the water, so that's where he kept trying to go."
It was terrible, even hearing it through the halls. He wishes he could pluck the memory out of his brain like an errant hair from his chin.
"Turns out, he had some kind of sensory... disorder. The blankets they used on his bed felt like steel wool to this poor kid."
He only knew because he'd overheard a few of the guards talking, callous as ever.
"They just kept putting him back in that bed. Strapped him down so he wouldn't run away. Can you fucking imagine?"
He gets even quieter.
"Somebody should have sued. Maybe me. Last I heard he was at a better facility in Star City. Anywhere is better than Arkham. Anywhere."

𔓕 NAP OF A STAR。 ㅤ𝓟ark 𝓢unghoon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( 命 )fem reader 、35OO words fluff ⋄ non idol au, childhood friends to lovers ─ kissing, minimal cursing, absent parents & wounds。
a stargazing session with your best friend takes a different turn when he tells you the story of princess andromeda and the demi-god perseus.
Tumblr media
“Stop being lazy! C’mon!”
Your friend’s lighthearted teasing made you let out a brief, hearty laugh. He smiled, loosening his grip on the old pillows he held.
For fifteen years you’ve known Park Sunghoon, your best friend, and the person who you trusted your life. You were introduced to each other when both of you were three years old, just a couple of weeks after your family moved to his hometown.
He lived in a shell back then, timid and reserved. The boy would admit that he was scared of crowded places, refusing to go out and play with other kids, unless he was with you — the first person to whom the little boy warmed up.
Since your parents and his were close, you two became attached by the hip, often mischievously pulling pranks on your families. Together, you had the tradition of doing pinky promises and vows to assure none of you would snitch on each other when causing trouble. These vows turned into serious ones through the time when you would swear that you’d stick together ’till the end.
Sunghoon then grew up with too much pride; a pride that came from the loyalty that you, even as kids, had to one another.
The black-haired boy found comfort in you in the same way you found in him. However, that comfort soon turned into something more — a burning feeling that consumed you whole. It was hard not to wear your heart on your sleeve around Sunghoon, but even with the pinky promises, losing his friendship because of a love confession wasn’t a risk you were willing to take.
By the time, in the middle of a sleepover at your house, your best friend slyly indulged you to sneak out of your room with him. Earlier that day, he insisted on sleeping outside, setting up camping tents in your backyard — tents he ‘discreetly’ stole from his father’s garage.
Turns out none of you fit inside any. They were tipis for kids, teenagers. Sunghoon seemed to forget that his father bought them about ten years ago, and didn’t buy new ones as a result of his family’s lack of free time and camping trips.
At the moment, with a blanket draped over your shoulder and two pillows in Sunghoon’s hands, happiness invaded your senses, painting a smile on your face.
Your room with a comfortable and cozy bed was closer than you expected. But even with your back laying down across a thin blanket, blades of grass poking your skin, and your friend frequently nudging your side with his knee, you couldn’t be more at peace.
It was a rather cold night — a full moon one. Bright and perfectly aligned stars glowed from above you. An almost warm breeze enveloped your body, the summer night being one of the most pleasant ones you had that season. Everything was partly clear due to the moonlight, and the faint smell of petrichor from an early rain still lingered in the air, filling up your lungs.
After quite some time, one of your hands toyed around with a small, wet leaf you found on the floor. The said best friend shifted on his place for the nth time that night, adjusting his seated position. He raised his arms, phone trying to capture the constellations on an app that promised to tell the name of each one of them.
“Sunghoon?” You called out without looking at him, eyes still focused on the dark green leaf on your hands. A surprisingly intense gush of wind blew it away, making you press your lips together in disappointment.
“Hm?” Sunghoon hummed, glancing at you briefly and turning his eyes back to the device’s screen. His heart melted at your messy hair and tired appearance.
Now laying on your side, you observed how his brows furrowed when the app didn’t work, and how his overall expression softened when he heard your voice. “What time is it?”
Peering at the top of the screen, he turned to you again, an enthusiastic smile playing on his plump lips. “Almost two.” Sunghoon chirped.
“I kinda want to sleep.”
“I kinda want to sleep!” He mocked, nudging your forearm with his knee, now purposefully. “You’re no fun, Y/n.”
Almost automatically, you sighed in faux annoyance, nudging him back with your hand. “We’d be dead asleep if I didn’t encourage you.”
“And I thank you for that.” His velvety, honeyed voice and a boyish grin was what you received for the complaint. Sunghoon focused completely on the phone as its interface lit up with the names of stars and planets. His gaze widened in shock, switching between you and the mobile. “I got it! I got it!”
You sat up and allowed your chin to rest on his shoulder, scanning all the information the program displayed. “You’re so cute,” a chuckle escaped your lips when he smiled triumphantly at the bright screen.
Sunghoon felt every single inch of his skin start to tingle with your breathy compliment. The plain cotton shirt he wore never felt so itchy; his insides were fuzzy. Park’s teasing demeanor came back in a nanosecond, recovering from what he’d call his weakness — another name for the feelings he took quite some time to sort out.
“It’s a pity that I can’t say the same to you,” he joked, his words being followed by a strong punch on his arm and a whispered ‘Ow!’.
“Jackass.”
“You just called me cute, though?”
“I’m totally punching you again if you don’t shut up.”
“Okay, okay! You win,” Sunghoon spoke up quickly, defeated. He went back to his star scanning and smirked, trying to catch a glimpse of your face through his peripheral vision. “...Cutie.”
“God, Sunghoon,” you scoffed, biting back a smile and feeling your neck heat up at his comment. “You’re so corny.”
The boy used his thumb and index to zoom in on a random constellation before stating as a matter-of-fact: “You know you love me.” And he was sure of that, he really was. Howbeit, he didn’t know if it was the same type of love he felt for you.
“Do I know that?” You poked his ribcage softly, using a line from Zootopia, a movie that you watched together more times than you could count. Not resisting the tempting words of the little devil in your head, you fully smiled, hooking your arms around his waist lovingly.
Your actions made a beautiful flora bloom inside his stomach, worsening the previous situation of fuzziness he experienced. Again, the thick mask Sunghoon used to conceal his emotions came to his rescue.
“Are you really quoting Zootopia to me? And I’m the ‘corny’ one?” He faced you completely, ignoring the sparks in his chest. Long fingers rose in a gesture that imitated quotation marks. His canines poked out as he bit his plump bottom lip, faking a confused state.
Slowly, your face fell and you sighed, pressing your head on his broad shoulders. Another puff of hot air passed between the two of you. “Leave me alone. I just tried to be funny.”
“You are funny! I’m just messing with you like you are with me,” Sunghoon explained in a rushed voice. You normally weren’t that bothered by his jokes, but he didn’t want you to feel bad about them. At least, not that night. “Lay down. I wanna show you something.”
His phone was thrown somewhere on the grass, back now sprawled on the blanket and arms open for you to cuddle him. Park looked expectant, irises twinkling in anticipation, the intimate act common in your friendship.
God knows how Sunghoon started to hate the use of the word friendship to describe what you two had. It’s not like he’d stop being your best friend when you started dating (he liked to think that you would someday), but whenever you two had to deny that you were together to someone, he lost a little fraction of hope he still had.
“Ooh! You gonna kiss me or what?” You joked under your breath, actually hoping that he would, and not expecting him to hear you, but he did.
Strong arms captured your body, tickling your belly. Quiet giggles came from both of you — after all, it was late, and your parents would kill you two if they woke up because of your loud witticisms.
“I take back what I said about you being funny.” The moonlit witching hour accentuated his sharp, yet gentle features. His raven hair blocked half of his vision, but it didn’t matter to him. As long as you were in his arms, nothing else had importance.
When your laugh died down, he adjusted your overall position so you would be more comfortable while he held you. Sunghoon’s body was exceptionally warm, contrasting with other days when his skin would be coated by its usual freezing temperature. Your head nuzzled on his neck, and you felt him carefully pushing it away.
“Don’t sleep yet. I told you I wanna show you something.” He said gently, as if he was talking to a newborn baby.
Once again, his hand rose to the sky, pointing to a distinct set of stars that seemed to shine way more than the others simply because he motioned towards them. He started making shapes with the tip of his finger, and you did your best to see the whole drawing. “See this constellation over there?”
“That one?” You gestured to the shiny celestial bodies close to the ones he was trying to show you.
“No, that one.” Sunghoon slipped his hand in yours, helping you to trace the stars, dismissing completely how he was bashful at something that should be common between you.
“Oh... Yeah, I see it.” Managing to stutter out an agreement, you cleared your throat, feeling the tingles on your hand going up to your arm.
Sunghoon kissed the back of his teeth. “That’s the constellation of your sun sign.” He mumbled, freeing you from his soft grip. His voice was hushed to the point you only managed to make out the words ‘constellation’ and ‘sun’.
Idiot, idiot, idiot!, his mind irrationally kept scolding him. She doesn’t like you like this! You’re gonna scare her away!
“What?” You frowned, turning your head to look at his side profile, and urging him to say it again.
Shit, Sunghoon thought, pondering if he should get up and sprint to his house, canceling his plans with you for the night. Embarrassment, and only embarrassment, was what he felt at that moment. He wished a fairy would just appear out of nowhere and touch your head with her wand, making you forget about his whole existence.
That was too much. Maybe not his whole existence, but only the last five minutes. He still needed you to remember everything you went through together for his confession.
“What did you say, Hoon? I didn’t hear you.” Your sleepy voice made him snap out of his trance, cheeks flushing at the nickname that you used often, but that never failed to make him flustered.
“This is... the constellation of your sun sign.” Sunghoon said a bit louder than before, gazing at you with shy, doe-like eyes.
Your friend’s nervousness made you chuckle, though you were secretly panicking because of his thoughtful research, probably with the app. Shifting on the blanket, you tightened your grip on his waist, feeling how his body got extremely hot since the beginning of your cuddling session. “You remember my sun sign?”
“We’ve known each other for fifteen years, of course I do.” He grinned weakly at the sound of your laugh. Sunghoon wasn’t even into Zodiac and astrology, but he learned a few things here and there so he’d get to talk with you about it. “You remember mine, right?”
“Well, duh!” You rolled your eyes, deciding to mess a bit with him. “You’re a Gemini!”
If he didn’t know you better, his face would be pale, and his heart would have fallen to his feet. Thankfully, as Park said earlier, he knew you for fifteen years, and when you were joking around or not.
Funny, no? He was your closest friend for so long, had so many beguiling stories with (and about) you to tell, but even then, he couldn’t see how in love you were with him, just like how he was with you.
“Ha. Ha.” He playfully reciprocated your eye roll, pinching your forearm.
“Just kidding. I know you’re a Sagittarius. Couldn’t forget that even if I wanted to.” And you really couldn’t, not when you constantly overanalyzed your birth charts, thinking if you would make a good pair or not.
There was silence. It extended for some minutes — eight or so. Sunghoon opened his mouth again, breathing in a short puff of fresh air through his teeth.
“You see those stars over there?” He repeated his gestures on another side of the sky. When you hummed in confirmation, he spoke again. “These are Andromeda and Perseus. Their constellations represent their love story.”
You hummed again, making him smile.
“Do you know their story?” Sunghoon questioned, briefly looking at you. As you said no, he continued. “Long story short, Andromeda’s mother said that her daughter was prettier than Poseidon’s daughters. He got pretty angry and sent a sea monster to destroy Andromeda’s parents’ kingdom.”
“Geez,” you snorted. “What a big deal to destroy a whole kingdom.”
“Oh, shut up. I’m sure if it was you in Poseidon’s body, you’d do the same thing.” Chuckling, he observed how you shrugged at his note. “Going back... The only thing that could stop the monster was a sacrifice: Andromeda. They chained her to a rock for the monster to kill her, but Perseus came to her rescue, killing the monster.”
Sunghoon cackled when you dramatically gasped at his storytelling. “He’s so brave! What a great man.” You gushed tiredly, but enjoyed how your best friend told you the story with so much passion.
“Y’know what happened next?”
“Let me guess, Perseus fell in love and asked to marry Andromeda, isn’t it? It’s always something like this.”
“Yep,” his confirmation made you scoff, smiling in amusement. “But she was already betrothed to her uncle, so Perseus killed him with Medusa's head.”
“Ew... To her uncle?”
“To her uncle.”
“I’m glad Perseus came to save Andromeda, then.” You told Sunghoon, the tender sensation of his soft hands running up and down your arms making you drowsy.
“Mhm… But you know what’s the best part of the story? Perseus and Andromeda’s constellations are right next to each other.” The teen uttered, focus fixated on the blanket of heavenly bodies.
Surveying him, you then realized how his eyes were so full of emotions that couldn’t even be described. How his chestnut irises were a sea of wordless poems. How the moon seemed to barely shine in contrast to his dazzling gaze. How the corners of his eyes had faded crinkles from when you’d make him laugh until his stomach hurt.
Sunghoon noticed your staring from his peripheral vision, face reddening at your careless gawk. Even then, he didn’t look at you completely. ‘It’s now or never’ was his final push of courage.
“Do you remember when we were younger, and my family couldn’t go on camping trips?” His heart trembled with fear of rejection.
“Yeah, obviously I do.” You nodded. “We always begged your parents to let you and Yeji come with my family.”
“And they always let us go.” He remembered. “I dreamed about having parents like our classmates had, who took their kids to travel, and had time for them. But every time I sulked about that, you made sure to include Yeji and I in your family’s events.”
Sunghoon paused for a small moment, grinning at the memories of his childhood with you. He loved you so, so bad, that only the remembrance of it could get him giddy and completely out of his mind.
“I think that growing up with you made me a happier person. If I didn’t have you, I’d probably be a sad, shy boy without any friends.”
“Well, you’re still shy, and don’t have many friends,” you joked and fixed your focus on the sky, trying to hide your sentimental side that threatened to come out.
“But I have you.” Sunghoon bit his lower lip, his voice beginning to shake. “Remember when we were seven and I fell on that lake when we went to Danyang-gun, and you saved me? Or when we tried to ride the same bike together and we fell, but you treated my wounds first with the Hello Kitty Band-Aids?”
With every situation he brought up, and with every confirmation you gave him that you indeed remembered, your throat closed a bit. You were sure that your hands were shaking at that point, though you didn’t bother to check your theory.
Suddenly, Sunghoon sat up, careful to not hurt you. The pump of his heart on his neck made him crazy, worrying that he wouldn’t be able to finish his confession and chicken out at the last second.
Your reflex made you follow his movements. Frightened eyes found one another. They lacked hope, but they were full of the familiar sentiment you inevitably felt around Sunghoon.
Love.
“I think... I think you’re my Perseus.” He whispered as if reciting the purest poetry the humankind could ever write. “You always rescued me. You are the Perseus that saved my Andromeda. I would be dead if you weren’t there for me, figuratively and literally.”
The imaginary mask that camouflaged his feelings for you got some cracks here and there. Sunghoon never felt a stronger rush of colorful and colorless emotions in his life, every single one of them blending inside his body (he wasn’t sure if they came from his mind, heart, or any other body part). You got to see them first-hand.
Crystal tears found their way to your waterline when you realized this was the ‘Super Important Thing’ he kept saying that he would tell you that week. The thing that he refused to reveal whenever you questioned him about it.
“You know I’m not that good with words, but all this time I held myself back from not telling you this,” he took a deep breath, shutting his eyelids with force. “I love you, and not like friends do. I have loved you since we were ten, and I never stopped doing so. I understand if you don’t love me back like this, but I really needed to get that off of my chest.”
Your best friend’s eyes opened, going from one blade of grass to another before fully looking at you again.
Hiding what you felt for him became harder, so you gave up on the effort you put in all these years to not let him know that you absolutely adored the boy and every aspect of him.
“You’re an idiot.” You chuckled shortly in disbelief, and some salty drops fell to your lap as you enjoyed how his hands cupped your cheeks delicately. “You’re an absolute idiot, Park Sunghoon, and I love you too. I love you so much that I don’t even know if I can love you any more than I already do.”
If you were in a masquerade ball, maybe in a movie, that would be the scene where you two take your disguises off, finally recognizing each other amongst the ocean of masked people. You’d beam, seeing how you both were actually bare-faced, and how you could finally admire your true selves without having to hide anything.
But this is real life, and what happened was that Sunghoon got his face impossibly close, bumping his nose affectionately with yours as your distinct breaths turned into one.
“Can I kiss you?” He pleaded with all the despair and devotion in the world, looking at you with glossy irises. “Please, I’ve been waiting for this all my life.”
The answer he got was a kiss. His first, your first. Your lips molded perfectly, moving slightly messily to catch up with each other’s pace. Pure bliss overwhelmed your five senses as you tried to move in sync.
Even though it was your first time kissing someone, you two thought that it went very well, or maybe the act was extremely long-awaited, making you two enjoy it a lot.
Sunghoon’s lips had an abstract taste that can’t be described with real flavors. They tasted like the coldness of a rainy morning, the ecstasy of winning a school championship, the happiness of petting a stray animal, the ravishing appearance of wildflowers, the pureness of a dove.
Your hands rested on his shoulders while he kept holding your cheeks, wiping them with cautiousness.
Pulling away to breathe, you smiled, sharing a much-needed hug.
“Can I be your boyfriend?” Sunghoon quietly asked with his face buried in your hair, putting all his love for you in the embrace.
“You took the lead lots of times today, yeah?” Sniffling, you held him closer. “You can, but only if you let me be your girlfriend.”
He nodded, letting some tears fall, not believing that what he was experiencing was not one of his dreams. “Promise to stay with me ‘till the end?” He smiled shyly, moving his body back, and his pinky appeared in front of your face.
Giggling at the act you repeated your whole lives, you nodded back and linked your fingers, giving his reddish lips a peck. “Promise.”
At that moment, you and Sunghoon were sure that Andromeda and Perseus were looking at you from up in the sky, nostalgic smiles on their faces as they saw their story repeating one more time.

Tumblr media
Authors Note: LEON IS SO FUCKING POOKIE UGHHH😩😩😩 Thank you for requesting Enjoy! <3
Warnings: just FLUFF, poor baby Leon finally taking a breather, drabble, crying
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
The sun rose above you as you just finished watering your small garden in the backyard. Wiping the sweat off your brow you walked back into the house only to be met with silence. Your husband finally got a day off, so respecting that you slid out of bed and let him sleep in. The clock hit 10:30 as you were picking up the living room from the night before. You folded the throw blankets and wiped down the coffee table. Humming to the soft music in the background you swayed your hips a little. Soft-clothed footsteps were heard in front of you.
Standing up straight you smiled at your sleep-filled husband. Leon's ash brown hair stuck out in wild directions, and his sweat pants hung below his hips showing his v-line. Leon rubbed his eyes as he kept your white comforter fisted in his hand.
"Good morning love. Did you sleep well?" You smiled as you walked up to him to leave a kiss on his cheek. A smile plastered on his face.
"You missed," His voice was deep and husky. Laughing a little you stood on your tipy toes to leave a chaste kiss on Leon's slightly chapped lips.
Leon smiled in the kiss as he went back for more, over and over again. You place your hand on his bare chest as you laugh pulling away.
"Are you hungry, I can make breakfast?" Leon only whined like a kid as he enveloped your body in a hug, wrapping the comforter around both of your bodies.
Leon shuffled your body backward, causing you to trip onto the couch. Rearranging your position you laid on your back while Leon flopped his body on yours leaving the comforter to cover you both. Leon wrapped his arms around your torso with his head in your neck. You wrapped your arms around his back rubbing little hearts.
You guys lay like this soaking in each other's touch for the next few hours. Time seemed to mush and muddle as both of you drifted in and out of reality. One moment you were sleeping while Leon left kisses on your neck and the next Leon was off dreaming while you rubbed his back.
This is the type of day Leon craved. All he ever wants to do is lay in your arms all day with no cares in the world. The clock struck 3:30 and your eyes fluttered open. Looking down at Leon's form his face was relaxed. His normal crease between his brows was gone and his ashy hair fell over his closed eyes. He looked so peaceful like this. Moving his hair out of his face you began to whisper sweet nothings to him.
"I'm so proud of you my love and everything you have done for this cruel cruel world." Moving your hand from his back you started to pet Leon's head running your fingers through his soft hair.
"I'm happy you're finally stopping to breathe. There's a reason your heart is wrapped behind your lungs. Each breath you take is a guardian of your heart. So, remember when life starts to weigh you down that you need to stop and breathe. Because when you don't then, you start to suffocate everything that's important to you," Pausing you placed a soft kiss on Leon's head before you went on.
"Just breathe and remember you have been in a place like this before. You have been scared and anxious and at your wit's end but you made it out on top each time. You've survived, and that's more than enough. You have saved people, and that's more than enough. Now it's your turn to save yourself and breathe. Your feelings can't break you, they may be painful and debilitating but when they pass with each waking breath you will look back and be proud of how resilient you are. So just keep breathing, because that alone is enough." Leon's body began to shake as a small sob pushed past his lips.
What you didn't know is that he was awake and listening the whole time. What he didn't know is that he really needed to hear those words come from you. Leon has been dragging recently and clearly, you have taken notice of that.
Leon's loud sobs filled the room as he pushed further into your body. "I love you s'much, sososo much." There wasn't much you could do but rub his back and kiss his head.
"I love you too, I'm so proud of how far you have come, how much you have grown," Leon stayed like this, crying into your neck as you comforted him through his sorrows.
Time passed as Leon's tears slowed. "I love you," You smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Impossible."
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
To whoever needs to hear this, slow down and breathe. Life is so much more than stressful and shitty so take the time to slow down and breathe. <3

Without Warning - Mafia!Joel Miller Scene 1
AU Mafia!Joel Miller x Original Female Character
Rating: T (language, sexual themes, drug use)
Minors DNI. 18+ content!
Scene 2 Scene 3
Summary: Joel's worked hard to build his empire. He's put the blood, sweat and tears of himself and others into creating his wealth and success, only ever worried about providing for himself and his brother. After years of being hardened by crime and violence, he finds someone that stirs feelings and urges inside of him that he'd long forgotten. She somehow brings out a softness in him without doing a thing and he will do everything in his power to keep her at his side, under his arm, and in his bed.
Been sitting on this idea for a while and finally got some time to write it out. Right now it's just a little scene in my head, but I might add some actual smut and fluff content soon.
Tumblr media
Joel was at the Tipy Bison her first night working the floor. He watched from his corner table, away from the neon lit signs and noise of the crowded bar. She was following Lacy around, the older redhead talking quickly as she explained how to put in orders on the bar’s computer system. She was smaller than Lacy, a cute little thing that had something primal stirring low in his core.
“She’s a looker, ain’t she?” Tommy asked, coming up to the table with a knowing smirk as he set a fresh glass of bourbon in front of his brother.
“Where’d you find this one?” Joel asked around the rim of his glass, finishing the contents in one drink.
“Grad student at UT, one of Jared’s friends needing a job, he vouched for her and everything,” Tommy shrugged while refilling Joel’s glass with practiced ease.
“Grad student, huh?” Joel muttered, his eyes following her around the tiny bar as she tried to keep up with Lacy.
“Yeah, psychology or somethin’...think her name’s Indi,” he said.
Joel couldn’t help the low scoff as he finally looked away from the girl and at his brother. “What kind of name is that?”
Tommy chuckled. “The fuck if I know,” he said through a snickering huff.
The brother’s shared a brief laugh, always being able to relax around the other when they needed a moment of quiet, something which was hard to come by in their line of work.
“Tess been getting the boys ready for the Alvarez meeting?” he asked quietly, scanning the room slowly, the way he learned in the military, assessing and searching for threats.
“She better be,” Joel muttered, scanning the room as well, but for one target in particular.
A moment later, his target passed their table, Lacy leading the way to the backroom, most likely to show her where the girls take their breaks, away from customers, as Tommy insisted when he bought the rundown bar.
Daniel, one of the newest and youngest runners for Joel approached the table slowly, eyes slightly glazed over. Joel suspected the kid was high, whether from their own product or someone else’s, still riding on the thrills of the lifestyle, the women, the drugs, hell, even the food tasted better when you ran for Joel Miller.
“Hey boss,” Daniel said, waiting for Joel to acknowledge him with cold eyes and a slight arch of his brow, the warmth of laughter gone once the circle between the two brothers was invaded. “Um, we finished the job last night without any issues, the boys were wanting to head over to Sugar’s to check out the oil wrestling night after a big move like that, thought you two might want to join,” he explained, obviously having been put up to it by some of the more experienced runners and grunts.
“Boy, you just stopped suckin’ on your momma’s titty last week and now you’re tryin’ to go see some more,” Tommy scoffed with a wry grin, always lighthearted and sharp with his wit, making the kid laugh nervously with a shake of his head.
Lately, moving products had become more of a risk with the increased security around the border. Joel had lost more men than he’d like  in the past two months to those DEA assholes thinking they were outsmarting the complex system of drug and weapon trafficking he had built over the last twenty years. He didn’t even want to think about the amount of cocaine he lost just last month to a drop gone off track. The numbers infuriated him to the point of seeing red if he thought about it too long, usually signaled by a headache and the urge to punch holes into the nearest wall.
Just then, the subject of Joel’s initial interest reappeared, passing by the men without Lacy this time. Joel openly admired how her sleeveless black top accentuated the curves of her body. He caught the edges of black ink on her left inner forearm, the full tattoo stretching from her wrist to the inner crook of her elbow. Her hair swayed behind her with every step, long loose locks falling in waves and curls down her back. He spotted the hints of a second, much smaller tattoo on her shoulder blade, her hair covering most of it.
His staring attracted the curiosity of Daniel, the kid turning as he followed Joel’s gaze. His hum of appreciation is what drew the older Miller’s attention away from the pretty little kitten walking away from them, completely unaware of how many men's interest she had peaked in the short amount of time she’s been clocked in.
“Damn Tommy, how do you keep finding all these hotties?” he chuckled, a lustful smirk on his slimy lips as he looked her over before turning back to the two men.
That comment was enough to have Joel itching to pull his gun from the holster and shoot the kid in his goddamn mouth. The clench of his jaw and hardness of his glare was enough to wipe the punk’s disgusting grin off his face. Unfortunately, Tommy insisted on a “No Guns” rule for all of the men when they entered the Bison, usually leaving their weapons at the door or behind the bar before they could even get a drink. While Joel respected the rule, he didn’t often feel like following it.  If Tommy didn’t ask, Tommy didn’t need to know.
“Uh, everything good, boss?” he asked, shifting back to his original nervous state under Joel’s cold eyes.
“Thought you were goin’ to Sugar’s, kid?” Joel questioned, his voice dropping to a low growl.
“Uh, y-yeah, w-we’re goin’,” Daniel agreed, taking a hesitant step backwards, the intimidation evident in the quiver of his lip, “I-I’ll see you around, Tommy,” he added with a stiff nod towards the other brother.
Tommy simply nodded with his usual easy grin, sensing his brother’s sudden shift and realizing quickly that Joel was not amused with the kid’s comments. When Daniel turned around, he didn’t bother to realize how far away he’d stepped back from the table, unintentionally obstructing the walkway. He spun around sharply, his elbow bumping the tray of the Tipsy Bison’s latest waitress.
Joel was on his feet instantly, grabbing Daniel by his collar and shoving him away from her as she tried to regain her balance. With the much taller and broader stature of Joel’s body, it was like looking at a bear grabbing a stick. Tommy watched her successfully manage to steady the three pint glasses with minimal spillage.
“The fuck is wrong with you, huh?” Joel seethed at Daniel, shaking the kid by the collar for emphasis.
“I’m sorry, boss, I’m sorry!” Daniel whimpered, trying to get out of Joel’s grasp.
“The fuck you sayin’ sorry to me for, you should be sayin’ it to ‘er,” he grunted, cocking his head to the side briefly in Indi’s direction.
Tommy shook his head with a dramatic sigh. Poor girl was watching Joel threaten Daniel with wide eyes, holding her tray close to her chest, almost like she was frozen in place. While Joel continued to berate and threaten Daniel, Tommy took it upon himself to slowly approach his newest employee, offering a kind smile as he placed his hand on her shoulder and guided her towards the bar.
“I…I didn’t mean to cause trouble, I’m sorry,” she immediately said, her lower lip a little shaky as she looked up at Tommy with worry.
“Not your fault, sweetheart, Joel’s just…protective of our girls here, has a soft spot for ‘em, you know?” Tommy tried to explain, easing her panic with a comforting squeeze to her shoulder.
He kept her distracted for a few moments, answering the few questions she had so far until Joel and Daniel approached them near the service well. Joel had Daniel by the back of shirt, his jaw tensed as he gave the kid a light shove in Indi’s direction.
“S-sorry for gettin’ in your way, ma’am, I promise not to let it happen again,” Daniel said softly, his eyes on the ground the entire time, practically shaking in his shoes.
“It’s fine, really, no harm done,” she said quickly, looking past Daniel to Joel, who’s gaze softened just slightly when their eyes met.
After she accepted Daniel’s apology, Joel stepped forward and leaned down, muttering something lowly to Daniel that had the kid practically running out of the bar. Tommy scoffed with a smirk, asking her one more time if she was okay before heading towards the office. When left alone with Joel, Indi hesitated in meeting his gaze. He took a slow step forward, allowing enough space for her to move away if she wanted.
“I’m sorry you had to see that, darlin’, I usually don’t have to remind my boys ‘bout their manners,” he said, his voice no longer an intimidating growl, but a warm and inviting timber that had her relaxing just slightly.
“No worries, I-I, um-.”
“Hey! Are you okay? What the hell, girl? I step outside for five minutes to smoke and you’re already getting guys kicked out,” Lacy said, coming up to them, grinning a little too wide for Joel’s comfort as she laughed and nudged Indi’s arm.
“Yeah, crazy, right?” Indi said softly, her attention still on Joel as Lacy teased her lightly.
“You need something Joel? My trainee isn’t going to learn just standing over here,” Lacy said, hand on her hip as she looked to Joel with an arched brow, one of the few who didn’t find him intimidating for some reason.
“How ‘bout ‘nother bourbon on the rocks?” Joel suggested, “the good stuff, not that well shit Tommy just gave me,” he added with a low chuckle, the edges of his lip twitching just a bit higher when Indi let out a soft laugh of her own.
“You’re the boss,” Lacy shrugged with a nod, linking her arm with Indi and pulling her away, demanding details of what happened as they went to put his order in.
With a heavy sigh, Joel watched the little doe-eyed waitress leave, her pleated black skirt swaying with each step. He originally never understood why Tommy had the girls dress in all black as part of the Bison’s uniform, but he could honestly appreciate his brother’s decision in having the girls wear those little black skirts.
He had to bite his inner cheek to suppress the groan building in his stomach as Indi stumbled forward slightly, slipping on some substance on the floor. The sudden movement and her bending forward exposed more of her legs, the hints of tiny spandex shorts peeking beneath the fabric, accentuating her ass.
Her little slip and recovery took less than three seconds, but Joel was watching her so closely it felt like she was moving in slow motion, his heated gaze soaking in every detail before he lost sight of her in the crowd. This little gatita had definitely made an impression on him and he was hungry for more…

“Stop being lazy! C'mon!”
Your friend's lighthearted teasing made you let out a brief, hearty laugh. He smiled, loosening his grip on the old pillows he held.
For fifteen years you've known Park Sunghoon, your best friend and the person who you trusted your life. You were introduced to each other when both of you were three years old, just a couple of weeks after your family moved to his hometown.
He lived in a shell back then, timid and reserved. The boy would admit that he was scared of crowded places, refusing to go out and play with other kids, unless he was with you — the first person to who the little boy warmed up.
Since your parents and his were close, you two became attached by the hip, often mischievously pulling pranks on your families. Together, you had the tradition of doing pinky promises and vows to assure none of you would snitch on each other when causing trouble. These vows turned into serious ones through the time when you would swear that you'd stick together ‘till the end.
Sunghoon then grew up with too much pride; a pride that came from the loyalty that you, even as kids, had to one another.
The black-haired boy found comfort in you in the same way you found in him. However, that comfort soon turned into something more — a burning feeling that consumed you whole. It was hard not to wear your heart on your sleeve around Sunghoon, but even with the pinky promises, losing his friendship because of a love confession wasn't a risk you were willing to take.
By the time, in the middle of a sleepover at your house, your best friend slyly indulged you to sneak out of your room with him. Earlier that day, he insisted on sleeping outside, setting up camping tents in your backyard — tents he ‘discreetly’ stole from his father's garage that same day.
Turns out none of you fitted inside any. They were tipis for kids, teenagers. Sunghoon seemed to forget that his father bought them about ten years ago, and didn't buy new ones as a result of his family's lack of free time and camping trips.
At the moment, with a blanket draped over your shoulder and two pillows in Sunghoon's hands, happiness invaded your senses, painting a smile on your face.
Your room with a comfortable and cozy bed was closer than you expected. But even with your back laying down across a thin blanket, blades of grass poking your skin, and your friend frequently nudging your side with his knee, you couldn't be more at peace.
“Hm?” Sunghoon hummed, glancing at you briefly and turning his eyes back to the device's screen. His heart melted at your messy hair and tired appearance.
Now laying on your side, you observed how his brows furrowed when the app didn't work, and how his overall expression softened when he heard your voice. “What time is it?”
Peering at the top of the screen, he turned to you again, an enthusiastic smile playing on his plump lips. “Almost two.” Sunghoon giggled childishly.
“I kinda want to sleep.”
“I kinda want to sleep!” He mocked, nudging your forearm with his knee, now purposefully. “You're no fun, Y/n.”
Almost automatically, you sighed in faux annoyance, nudging him back with your hand. “We'd be dead asleep if I didn't encourage you in your plans for this night.”
“And I thank you for that.” His velvety, honeyed voice and a boyish grin was what you received for the complaint. Sunghoon focused completely on the phone as its interface lit up with the names of stars and planets. His gaze expanded in shock, switching between you and the mobile. “I got it! I got it!”
You sat up and allowed your chin to rest on his shoulder, scanning all the information the program displayed. “You're so cute,” a chuckle escaped your lips when he smiled triumphantly at the bright screen.
Sunghoon felt every single inch of his skin start to tingle with your breathy compliment. The plain cotton shirt he wore never felt so itchy; his insides were fuzzy. Park's teasing demeanor came back in a nanosecond, recovering from what he'd call ‘weakness’ — another name for the feelings he took quite some time to sort out.
“It's a pity that I can't say the same to you,” he joked, his words being followed by a strong punch on his arm and a whispered ‘Ow!’.
“Jackass.”
“You just called me cute, though?”
“I'm totally punching you again if you don't shut up.”
“Okay, okay! You win,” Sunghoon spoke up quickly, defeated. He went back to his star scanning and smirked, trying to catch a glimpse of your face through his peripheral vision. “...Cutie.”
“God, Sunghoon,” you scoffed, biting back a smile, feeling your neck heat up at his comment. “You're so cringe.”
The boy used his thumb and index to zoom in on a random constellation before stating as a matter-of-fact: “You know you love me.” And he was sure of that, he really was. Howbeit, he didn't know if it was the same type of love he felt for you.
“Do I know that?” You poked his ribcage softly, using a line from the spectacular Disney movie of Zootopia.
“Are you really quoting Zootopia on me? And I'm the ’cringe’ one?” He faced you completely, ignoring the sparks in his chest. Long fingers rose in a gesture that imitated quotation marks. His canines poked out as he bit his lips, faking a confused state.
Slowly, your face fell and you sighed, pressing your head on his broad shoulders. Another puff of hot air passed between the two of you. “Leave me alone. I just tried to be funny.”
“You are funny! I'm just messing with you like you are with me,” Sunghoon explained in a rushed voice. You normally weren't that bothered by his jokes, but he didn't want you to feel bad about them. At least, not that night. “Lay down. I wanna show you something.”
His phone was thrown somewhere on the grass, back now sprawled on the blanket and arms open for you to cuddle him. Park looked expectant, irises twinkling in anticipation, the intimate act common in your friendship.
God knows how Sunghoon started to hate the use of the word ‘friendship’ to describe what you two had. It's not like he'd stop being your best friend when you started dating (he liked to think that you would someday), but whenever you two had to deny that you were together to someone, he lost a little fraction of hope he still had.
His raven hair blocked half of his vision, but it didn't matter to him. As long as you were in his arms, nothing else had importance.
When your laugh died down, he adjusted your overall position so you would be more comfortable while he held you. Sunghoon's body was exceptionally warm, contrasting with other days when his skin would be freezing. Your head nuzzled on his neck, and you felt him carefully pushing it away.
“Don't sleep yet. I told you I wanna show you something.” He said gently, as if he was talking to a newborn baby.
Once again, his hand rose to the sky, pointing to a distinct set of stars that seemed to shine way more than the others, simply because he motioned towards them. He started making shapes with the tip of his fingers, and you did your best to see the whole drawing. “See this constellation over there?”
“That one?” You gestured to the shiny celestial bodies close to the ones he was trying to show you.
“No, that one.” Sunghoon slipped his hand in yours, helping you to trace the stars, dismissing completely how he was shuddering at something that should be common between you.
“Oh... Yeah, I see it.” Managing to stutter out some comments, you hummed, feeling the tingles on your hand going up to your arm.
Sunghoon kissed the back of his teeth. “That's the constellation of your sun sign.” He mumbled, freeing you from his soft grip. His voice was hushed to the point you only managed to make out the words ‘constellation’ and ‘sun’.
Idiot, idiot, idiot!, his mind irrationally kept scolding him. She doesn't like you like this! You're gonna scare her away!
“What?” You frowned, turning your head to look at his side profile, and urging him to say it again.
Shit, Sunghoon thought, pondering if he should get up and sprint to his house, canceling his plans with you for the night. Embarrassment, and only embarrassment, was what he felt at that moment. He wished a fairy would just appear out of nowhere and touch your hair with her wand, making you forget about his whole existence.
That was too much. Maybe not his whole existence, but only the last five minutes. He still needed you to remember everything you went through together for his confession.
“What did you say, Hoon? I didn't hear you.” Your sleepy voice made him snap out of his trance, cheeks flushing at the nickname that you used often, but that never failed to make him flustered.
“This is... the constellation of your sun sign.” Sunghoon said a bit louder than before, gazing at you with shy doe eyes.
Your friend's nervousness made you chuckle, though you secretly were panicking because of his thoughtful research. Shifting on the blanket, you tightened your grip on his waist, feeling how his body got extremely hot since the beginning of your cuddling session. “You remember my sun sign?”
“We've known each other for fifteen years, of course I do.” He grinned weakly at the sound of your laugh. Sunghoon wasn't even into Zodiac and astrology, but he learned a few things here and there so he'd get to talk with you about it. “You remember mine, right?”
“Well, duh!” You rolled your eyes, deciding to mess a bit with him. “You're a Gemini!”
If he didn't know you better, his face would be pale, and his heart would have fallen to his feet. Thankfully, as Park said earlier, he knew you for fifteen years, and when you were joking around or not.
Funny, no? He was friends with you for so long, had so many beguiling stories with (and about) you to tell, but even then, he couldn't see how in love you were with him, just like how he was with you.
“Ha. Ha.” He playfully reciprocated your eye roll, pinching your forearm.
“Just kidding. I know you're a Sagittarius, couldn't forget that even if I wanted to.” And you really couldn't, not when you constantly overanalyzed your birth charts, thinking if you would make a good pair or not.
As you muttered a ‘No’, he continued. “Long story short, Andromeda's mother said that her daughter was prettier than Poseidon's daughters. He got pretty angry and sent a sea monster to destroy Andromeda's parents' kingdom.”
“Geez,” you snorted. “What a big deal to send a monster to destroy somebody's kingdom.”
“Oh, shut up. I'm sure if it was you in Poseidon's body, you'd do the same thing.” Chuckling, he observed how you shrugged at his note. “Going back... The only thing that could stop the monster was a sacrifice: Andromeda. They chained her to a rock for the monster to kill her, but Perseus came to her rescue, killing the monster.”
Sunghoon cackled when you dramatically gasped at his storytelling. “He's so brave! What a great man.” You gushed tiredly, but enjoying how your best friend told you the story with so much passion.
“Y'know what happened next?”
“Let me guess, Perseus fell in love with Andromeda, and asked to marry her.”
“Yep,” his confirmation made you scoff, grinning in amusement. “But she was already betrothed to her uncle, so Perseus killed him with Medusa's head.”
“Ew... To her uncle?”
“To her uncle.”
“I'm glad Perseus came to save Andromeda, then.” You told Sunghoon, the tender sensation of his soft hands running up and down your arms making you drowsy.
“Mhm, but you know what's the best part of the story? Perseus and Andromeda's constellations are right next to each other.” The teen uttered, focus fixated on the blanket of heavenly bodies.
Surveying him, you then realized how his eyes were so full of emotions that couldn't even be described. How his chestnut irises were a sea of wordless poems. How the moon seemed to barely shine in contrast to his dazzling gaze. How the corners of his eyes had faded crinkles from when you'd make him laugh until his stomach hurt.
Sunghoon noticed your staring, face reddening at your careless gawk. Even then, he didn't look at you completely. ‘It's now or never’ was his final push of courage.
“Do you remember when we were younger, and my family couldn't go on camping trips?” His heart trembled with fear of rejection.
“Yeah, obviously I do.” You nodded. “We always begged your parents to let you and Yeji go on my family ones.”
“And they always let us go.” He remembered. “I dreamed about having parents like our classmates had, who took their kids to travels and had time for them. But every time I sulked about that, you made sure to include Yeji and I in your family's events. I think that growing up with you made me a happier person. If I didn't have you, I'd probably be a sad, shy boy without any friends.”
“Well, you're still shy, and don't have many friends,” you joked and turned your head upwards, trying to hide your sentimental side that threatened to come out.
“But I have you.” Sunghoon bit his lower lip, his voice beginning to shake. “Remember when we were seven and I fell on that lake when we went to Danyang-gun, and you saved me? Or when we tried to ride the same bike together and we fell, but you treated to my wounds first with those Hello Kitty Band-Aids?”
With every situation he brought up, and with every confirmation you gave him that you remembered, your throat closed a bit. You were sure that your hands were shaking at that point, though you didn't bother to check your theory.
Suddenly, Sunghoon sat up, careful to not hurt you. The pump of his heart on his neck made him crazy, worrying that he wouldn't be able to finish his confession and chicken out at the last second.
Your reflex made you follow his movements. Frightened eyes found one another. They lacked hope, but they were full of the familiar sentiment you inevitably felt around Sunghoon.
Love.
“I think... I think you're my Perseus.” He whispered as if reciting the purest poetry the humankind could ever write. “You always rescued me. You are the Perseus that saved my Andromeda. I would be dead if you weren't there for me, figuratively and literally.”
The imaginary mask that camouflaged his feelings for you got some cracks here and there. Sunghoon never felt a stronger rush of colorful and colorless emotions in his life, every single one of them blending inside his body (he wasn't sure if they came from his mind, heart, or any other body part). You got to see them first-hand.
Crystal tears found their way to your waterline when you realized this was the ‘Super Important Thing’ he kept saying that he would tell you that week. The thing that he refused to reveal whenever you questioned him about it.
“You know I'm not that good with words, but all this time I held myself back from not telling you this,” he took a deep breath, shutting his eyelids with force. “I love you, and not in a platonic way. I have loved you since we were ten, and I never stopped doing so. I understand if you don't love me back like this, but I really needed to get that off of my chest.”
Your best friend's eyes opened, going from one blade of grass to another before fully looking at you again.
Hiding what you felt for him became harder, so you gave up on the effort you put all these years to not let him know that you absolutely adored the boy and every aspect of him.
“You're an idiot.” You chuckled shortly in disbelief, and some salty drops fell to your lap as you enjoyed how his hands cupped your cheeks delicately. “You're an absolute idiot, Park Sunghoon, and I love you too. I love you so much that I don't even know if I can love you any more than I already do.”
If you were in a masquerade ball, maybe in a movie, that would be the scene where you two take your disguises off, finally recognizing each other amongst the ocean of masked people. You'd smile, seeing how you both came to the party without makeup, how you could finally admire your true selves without having to hide anything.
But this is real life, and what happened was that Sunghoon got his face impossibly close, bumping his nose affectionately with yours as your distinct breaths turned into one.
“Can I kiss you?” He pleaded with all the despair and devotion in the world, looking at you with glossy eyes. “Please, I've been waiting for this all my life.”
The answer he got was a kiss, his first, your first. Your lips molded perfectly, as if they were the sculpture ‘The Kiss’, flawlessly crafted by Auguste Rodin. Pure bliss overwhelmed your five senses as you tried to move in sync.
Even though it was your first kiss, you two thought that it went very well, or maybe the act was extremely long-awaited, making you two enjoy it a lot.
Sunghoon's lips had an abstract taste that can't be described with real flavors.
He nodded, letting some tears fall, not believing that what he was experiencing was his life. “Promise to stay with me ‘till the end?” He grinned slightly, moving his body back, his pinky appearing in front of your face.

5 April 2024 - Friday Field Notes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spend an inordinate amount of time putting unfinished puzzles together.
Tumblr media
Mud mess from last week when we were installing some rabbit fencing. I really should oil my boots.
Tumblr media
No clue who this flower is but she's very pretty.
Tumblr media
Anyone do those "bean in a bag" experiments as a kid? You put a bean seed in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel, leave it in a sunny spot, and watch it sprout in about a week. Yeah, the native plant version is doing the same thing except you have to stick it in the fridge, wait 1-2 months, plant it, and hope it germinates. Maybe. Cold moist stratification. Not for the impatient.
Been getting a lot of practice learning scientific and common names though.
Tumblr media
Tipi streamer I decorated. We haven't put them on the past few years because... I'm not sure why. But they're fun, supposed to help wick precipitation off the poles, and maybe it'll keep the birds from shitting all over the covers. Some tiny Pronghorn, Bison (we don't have bison, I wish we did), a Meadowlark, and a Rocky Mountain Bee Plant.
Tumblr media
I somehow wound up being unofficially in charge of putting up the tipis lol. Third time around and I finally got around to reading the instruction manual this time. Ignore the extra long pole, it's just special. Adds character.
Tumblr media
Planting party. We'll see what grows.
I am excited the rabbitbrush at my house sprouted.

SE so: Ja, beide Eltern.
Can someone save him, please???

Reader is insecure and Jack assures her she’s exactly what he wants. ***language, sexual content 18+ ***
You watched him stand up as he shimmied from between the bed sheets and stretched. His messy head of curls like a halo in the morning light. God he looked good naked. You felt truly lucky to witness his firm butt, broad shoulders, and strong arms. Even his neck was beautiful and his famously soft hands. Everything about him was special, but he didn’t always feel special to you.
“You just gonna lay in bed?” He said looking back at you as he walked sleepily towards the bathroom rubbing his eyes. He was pleased you were still relaxing with him but he was hungry and you made the best omelettes.
“I can’t even walk right now.” You said yawing which was a compliment to his skills the night before.
Jack gave you a side smile before he went to take a shower. When he came out you had thrown on his hoodie and were on your phone and computer propped up in bed.
“Really? You’re starting to work and you haven’t even peed yet!” He said “You’re worse than me I swear. Don’t worry I’ll make myself breakfast.” He said sarcastically as he threw on the hoodie you hadn’t stolen yet to make you feel guilty.
“I have to get this report in Jack.” You said while typing and checking messages
He was irritated and started rummaging loudly in the fridge. You realized you were doing it again. Jack made a special trip out of his way to visit you and it wasn’t good to make him feel like you would rather be in bed with the laptop than with him. You freshened up and tipi-toed behind him giving him a big hug. “Let me get that” you said seeing him struggle to make his favourite grill cheese.
“I’m that bad huh?” He said laughing
“No you’re good. Very, very good.” You said lifting up your chin to reach his lips.
You kissed him deeply. As your lips pulled apart he said “Careful. You don’t want to get pregnant’
“I can’t get pregnant you dufus.” You said hitting him playfully. I’m a little too old for that, thank god.”
“Dufus?? What are you in grade 7?” He laughed as he watched you work your magic in the kitchen. “Fuck is there anything you can’t do?” He said in awe of you. “Good cook, business woman, cool to be with, can ride like it’s Derby, chef’s kiss blow job, like what do you not do?” He said as you put the perfect oozing cheesy delight in front of him. Jack took the first bite and moaned like he was about to cum. “I would’ve loved at least one kid with you.” He said.
“Don’t cum while you’re eating it’s bad manners” you joked, ignoring what he just said about kids as you wished that too but didn’t want him to know.
“Ok mom.” He said ruffling your hair
“Don’t fucking say that.” You said suddenly angry
“Baby WTF?” Jack said quizzically looking confused
“I know I’m old enough to be your mother but please don’t say that.” You said getting up from the table.
“Where the fuck are you going?” He asked
“To go get my cane because I’m so old” you said annoyed.
Jack reached out and grabbed you making you tumble back right onto his lap. “Fix your attitude. I never fucking said you were old.” He explained looking you right in the eyes. “Is it ok if I eat my sandwich in peace?”
You nodded ok and he kissed you on the cheek. “Stop doing that shit.” He said still holding you on his lap and continuing to eat. “You wanna bite?” He asked “holding your masterpiece up to your face.”
“Too many calories.” You said shaking your head.
“Work too much, think your old, won’t eat. Da fuk is up with you?” He said concerned “hmmm? Tell daddy what’s wrong” he said fully embracing you on his lap.
“I am twice your age.” You said matter of factly “I have gained weight, and yes I work too much, but so do you and look where you’re at today.” You said trying to reason with him
“How is the smartest woman I know besides my mom and gramma so dumb sometimes?” He said scrunching up his brow.
“Dumb?” You replied pulling away from him with major attitude in your face
“You heard me” he said taking his finger and poking you in the forehead
“Boy you haven’t known me my whole life, you gon fuck around and find out. I will put your finger up your ass.” You said seriously
Jack knew he had annoyed you and thought it was hot you were threatening him. “Have I ever fucking cared your twice my age?” He asked you with a firm hold on your thigh
“Nooo” you said slowly as you could see he was actually agitated with his firm tone
“Ok. Did I ever tell you to lose weight?” He continued
“Nooo” you said looking down
He tipped your chin up to look at you directly with his blue piercing eyes. “Pick your chin up when you’re with me.” He said encouragingly “You are THE SHIT, you hear me?”
Tears started welling up in your eyes and cascading down your cheeks. “I can’t wait to come into town to see you every chance I get.” He said gently wiping your tears. “It’s the highlight off my life when we’re able to be together like this, so please stop talking shit.”
You knew he was right and rested your head on his shoulder as he finished his tea. When it was just you and Jack he was so close to you. Holding you on his lap, having his leg flung over you on the couch watching TV, spooning you in the bed. It was torture now when he left.
Suddenly his phone rang. “Naw count me out today dog, maybe later. Imma be busy pretty much all day.” He said petting your hair
“See? You’re stuck with me today” he said yawning as he hung up.
You yawned too. “Let’s go watch a movie and chill” you said pulling him to the couch. After taking some time to make a selection you chose an old Hitchcock movie Jack would like. “Ok Jack? You like this one?” You asked him “Jack? Jackman” There was no answer, then he started quietly snoring. “Back to sleep before the movie even starts” you said hitching up under his arm and snuggling into him. His musky cologne hypnotizing you. What a perfect day. You could see it starting to rain outside and you had your head on Jack’s chest, both of you cozy in his hoodies. He was yours for the day. No phones. No laptops.

Best and Worst representation of Native Women/girls in media you had growing up?
It's a bit up to personal taste because I have a real preference for characters that "just happen to be Native" whether or not it’s a huge part of their personality. Eg. I liked Jesse from Infinity Train but some Indigenous people didn't think his culture was included enough.
As a side note there is like...no Coast Salish rep specifically that I grew up with. And though pan-Indigeneity is an issue, I do think we can all relate over similar experiences and post-contact shared culture.
It's also worth noting there just wasn't much rep when I grew up in the late 90's-early 00's. Some was good but it was mostly absent which, along with growing up surrounded by white people after we left the rez, made me really hate my features and background. People say "kids don't care about rep!!" but my "self-inserts" as a kid were blonde, blue-eyed white girls and I wanted invasive plastic surgery on my Native features well into my 20's : ))))) So : )
(Also keep in mind I only liked shows without real people until I was around 20 because I have uhhh undiagnosed something)
Under cut because I talk too much:
Best first:

I'm not Native Hawaiian but I think Lilo and Nani were good, and the problems they dealt with are things I and many Natives can sadly relate to (child protection constantly breathing down their necks, being ripped away from family). I've also seen Native Hawaiians say it was decent rep. Also there were aliens and they were good characters in their own right. I loved them!! I love that film!! There is an issue with the character designer being a white guy who is weird about Hawaiian women……but the writing itself is good.
I grew up with Tipi Tales which was a puppet show about an Ojibwe family and I enjoyed watching it in the wee hours as a kid. Some Canadians call it 'creepy looking' but I don't experience the uncanny valley so I just liked it. I looked like the younger girl as a little kid lol.
Avatar the Last Airbender and the water tribe were cool!!! I love Katara, even if some of the fandom has been weirdly critical of her. She's 14 and has too much responsibility and trauma, guys...come one. Also I love Korra although I only watched LoK as an adult. People also weirdly hate her?! Mostly men though.
Worst or not great:

Most other things Disney put out, ESPECIALLY Pocahontas. Still grinds me today that they romanticized a real little girl's trauma in that gross way.
I did have a huge crush on Chel but El Dorado has a ton of issues like demonizing Indigenous culture and oversexualizing her. Sure she awakened something in ME which is neutral, but also in people who grew up to see Native women as lesser humans or objects so...net negative.
Emperor's New Groove is definitely not culturally accurate but Yzma slays and I love her. Not a “worst” thing I just want to mention her ftftft.
Uh, overall I'm just happy there's so much MORE decent rep now in kids' media. Current examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(L->R Molly Mabray, Jesse Cosay, and Charles Little Bull)
(2 are dudes but you get where I'm going with it. I especially love Charles because he's just...a nerd. I'm happy that we get to be awkward nerd side characters now, it's so real to me.)
Also I see Simon Petrikov as Indigenous/mixed Indigenous (several possibilities, even Salish) which I won't go into here but I can. No one can change my hc btw.

Reblog/Comment to tell me the Spoilers for Kulipari a King Rise's
I am unable to watch and I'm too impatient to wait around for the wiki to update, So please enlighten me with bullet points spoilers <3
The TV in my room hasn't worked, I tried getting a free trial on hulu but I don't have US bank account, and the wiki hasn't spoiled anything on what happened
The one saving grace is the Apple TV box that hasn't been for family movie nights in a year or two. And I ain't waiting for her to come back home to know were that box is, because it ain't in her room.
But ill write while as I watch it when my mom gets back.
On an unrelated note looking at the episode summaries (Spoiler under for the small tidbits of spoiler I learned about, so yknow how heartbroken I was)
Ik craz got murdered[Tumblr], and stinger dies from [Reddit] With Tears !!! EDIT: I got the spoilers wrong- JACKERAL IS STINGERS MOM! DID MARMOO CURSE THEIR KID FOR FUNNY WHAT?!!!>! (me after looking back at Artflames post through the kulipari tag and realizing my brain forgot something so- *Hands get raised in the air* Important, The Drama!! I also thought(because ii didn't look at the wiki for confirmations) through reading the comic she was dating the Spider king so cheating oooh Stinger's a bastard child than from what 'Under my carapace' thought he was, and that fanfiction.net fic called it)
Tumblr media
Killara's Niece, that's is so cute
Tumblr media
I'm just looking at the food, yummy. And tipi dreaming of stingers fate, I'm anxouis too AHHH. My daydreaming is havoc
Tumblr media
Is Stinger the king of the Outback, does he sacrifice himself, is it Darel(Is it Darel?/sarcastic because honestly idk, it very much seems like Stinger would be the ruler of the Outback, or many a snake that rules underground, I watched that show with blue and green guy that went underground to snakes sleeping and cuddling together so mb.)
