KING GEORGE VI with his grandson PRINCE CHARLES, November 1951
In some regards, his guiding light is not so much his late mother as his grandfather. One close friend of the family says that, shortly after his accession, she was offering her condolences to the new monarch and assured him that both his mother and the Queen Mother would be ‘looking after’ him from somewhere up on high. ‘That’s very kind of you,’ he replied, ‘but the person whose hand I feel on my shoulder is the King.’

The Duke & Duchess of York. This may be an engagement photo, not sure, but it's one of my favorites. I love how Bertie is trying to repress his joyful giggles. And I also love Elizabeth's style.
The Princess of Wales, later Queen Mary, with her two eldest sons, Prince Edward of Wales, and Prince Albert of Wales.
I love this picture where Queen Mary's hand is on both David and Bertie's shoulders. I’ve seen just a couple of pictures of her doing that with Bertie, in most part of the pictures she’s doing that just with Edward. I’m very happy I found this because both Mary and George V are always portrayed as terrible parents, and I'm not saying they were perfect but certainly compared to other parents of their time they weren't so bad.
I adore finding original true colour footage of our lovely King George VI ❤️
There is so little available that I am always surprised to see his tanned skin (from spending so much time outdoors!) and the brightness of his ribbon medals.
Check out the way he just eyeballs the camera for a split second. You better look sharp and behave! Bertie’s always watching you…

The Duke of Windsor was staying at the Waldorf Astoria on February 6, 1952, when word came that his brother, King George VI, had died. The hotel lowered the American and British flags to half-staff in the late king's honor.
Built to honour the fallen of The Great War, Canada's War Memorial was unveiled by King George VI & Queen Elizabeth in Ottawa during the Royal Tour of 1939.. three months before the outbreak of WWII.
